2023.04.25 03:01 talesbybob The Jubal County Saga, described as 'Bill Faulkner meets Jim Butcher.' Backwoods Alabama occult shenanigans.

From the back of Book 1:
Howard Marsh is a lot of things: a liar, a thief, a poor man’s wizard. He’s the product of a miserable county with more dirt roads than paved; where poverty and loss is the order of the day. He’s a man haunted by his past, and has yet to find any reason to try and piece himself back together.
Where we find him is at the bottom, eking out a living as a water witch, a copper thief, a finder of lost things. Living in a storage shed and trying to maintain what's left of the frayed relationships of the few family members who will still talk to him. Untrained, he uses the drugs that ravage his body to fuel his magic.
Within these pages Marsh will work to unravel two supernatural mysteries as only a redneck wizard can: poorly, and with much cursing. In Bringing Home the Rain he has to piece together just why it hasn’t rained in months within the bounds of a perfect circle just south of town. And in Dancing With Your Demons he’s on the trail of a missing woman whose now infamous son once burned down a church.
He is Howard Marsh, the Methgician.
He’s a travesty...but he’s the best hope Jubal County has.
(Warning: This book contains much cursing and foul language, as befits a tale told by a drug addled white trash wizard.)
Available in print and ebook (and KU).

2023.04.24 14:11 Mission-Intelligent Thomas and Ann Underwood

Hi everyone, I have been trying to get past this brick wall for over a year with no luck. I am trying to find out information on Thomas Underwood (born around 1805 and died before 1887) and his wife Ann (1812 - July 6th 1887). I believe both were born in England or south Carolina. They are found in the 1850 Census in Barbour County, Alabama with their only son Joshua H. A. Underwood. He also is found as Josh or J.H.A. Underwood. (Abt 1844 - February 24th 1886) Joshua died from hydrophobia (rabies). He got bit by a rabid dog in November 1885 and nobody knew he had contracted it until right before his death in February. I found quite a few newspaper articles about his illness and death. He died in Girard Alabama and is buried in Columbus, GA. I don't know Ann's maiden name but she was also buried in Columbus, Ga. I haven't been able to find anything about Thomas except what was written in Ann's obituary which is that they were long time residents of Girard, Russel county, Alabama and that he was a well known tailor. Joshua was a music teacher. Joshua's three son's names were Thomas Charles Underwood, William Henry Underwood and G.B. Underwood. It doesn't help that so many of the male Underwood's in the south at the time were named Thomas, Charles, William, and Henry. I tried to provide any information that could possibly be helpful. I am adopted and all the family from this side (biological mother's) have passed away. Any help would be greatly appreciated! If you have any questions let me know!

so he had to ask his cat where his blankets went. Turns out he had left his blankets at goodwill so he was very sad because he would have to go buy his half life blanket back from goodwill.
So he asked his cat where the car keys went, apparently he had left them in the car back in mexico.

Disclaimer: The Internet Archive is currently undergoing litigation to determine the legality of its book lending program that is being challenged by major publishers. Impending legal action may render this list obsolete for the purpose of borrowing these books from the Internet Archive. To learn more, search up Hachette v. Internet Archive.
Cybersecurity Disclaimer: Exercise caution and practice computer security measures when downloading and opening various files from the Internet as they can be used to attack your computer with malicious code.
The format of this list previously took the form of a post with a chain of comments continuing the list due to character limits. This list is now divided into separate posts (which I believe would be easier to update and search) indicated as Part 1, Part 2, and so on.
The lending library of the Internet Archive allows you to renew your checkout immediately after the time for borrowing has elapsed, whether it's borrowable for 1 hour or 14 days. This selection of books will be updated. I recommend to those interested to check this post once a week for updates.
This list has exceeded the character limit for this post. For the other parts of this list, see:
