How to move forward with this?
So me and this girl go to same college or did as I am transferring now. We knew of eachother for almost 8 months but never got really close despite hanging within a group of friends a couple of times. I had not seen her in a few months but run into eachother last day of semester. We talked hanged out that day and continued to text over the next week. I ask her out and she agrees.
First Date goes amazing. One more week of texting and second date happens, goes okay not as good as first though. Both lasted around 5 hours with multiple places included. We plan our third date for Yesterday and continue texting throughout the week leading up to the date. This texting she seems way more into it and enthusiastic than normal which was a good sign to me.
As you know the Canada fire happens, and NYC gets killed with smoke and makes the outside unbearable. While texting I bring up the fact of the weather as our date was for an outdoors event offer to go somewhere else or reschedule if the even is canceled. She says she’s unsure about our date tomorrow because of the weather and we agree to check tomorrow how it is. So tomorrow happens, (The day of date) and we text in the morning as usual and I ask her what she was thinking of the weather and that I could go today or wait for the weekend if she felt uncomfortable. She doesn’t respond to that for 4 hours and the time of the date is coming up shortly, so I double text to tell her we should go during the weekend as the air quality is still bad unless she’s not free then we’ll go today and to let me know if we’re still going today as the event is an hour away from me so I could start making my way there.
Doesn’t respond until she gets off work which was around the time I was supposed to meet her, that she’s so sorry and that she got busy at work and that she’ll let me know for what day during The Weeknd. I responded with a heart reaction and to just let me know and that any day of the weekend would work. This morning we texted as usual I don't bring up the date at all but we text really chill briefly and a she seemed into it for the most part but did not mention anything however I ended it shortly.
At this point I am pretty sure she is not going to let me know anything. Should I just cut all contact with her? We usually daily text with me initiating it most of it? Im either thinking of texting her through the week like normal and try to set up another date. Or just stop initiating contact and in a week or so text to see her energy.

Just wanted outside opinion if I should reroute my flights tomorrow or not. I’m flying ABQ-DFW and then DFW-JFK tomorrow from 8:30 AM-11:18 AM and then 12:34 PM-5:20 PM. I just received a notification about the hail/ storms tomorrow and it looks like there’s a flight through ORD I might be able to switch to instead, but I’d get to NY at 10 PM. If this were your flight, would you keep the original itinerary or reroute through Chicago? Thanks!

She was a stray before we rescued her. January of 2022 the vet said she was roughly 6months to 1 year of age. She is up to date on vaccines, and spayed. Tuesday I noticed a decrease in activity, and she was sitting like this out in the open. She is a fairly skittish cat, and doesn't like me nearly as much as my roommate. (His cat technically) she's had a major decrease and appetite as well. I fed her a wet treat today, and less than an hour later she vomited it up. It looked normal. We've seen her drink water occasionally, but I haven't seen her eat any crunchy food.
When we pet her she still meows and arches her back but that's it.
The vet said she does have a chronic eye problem since being exposed to the harsh weather before we rescuers her, but I'm starting to worry.
I have an appointment set for tomorrow morning, but I'm just worried now.
Nothing new has been introduced to her that we are aware of. We went away overnight Saturday, came home Sunday and I noticed her sitting on the back of the couch, which is normal, and didn't think anything of it. I have a 8 month old and work from home job fulltime, so I didn't really notice much change in activity until Tuesday.

I have lived on the East Coast most of my life. My mom and stepdad moved me to WA State when I was 17 after my stepdad changed careers. I moved to Florida for 10 years after school and then moved back to be close to my mo b/c my stepdad passed away. It was ok b/c I was getting tired of the heat anyway. After a year here in WA I met my husband and we have 2 children. He's just badgering me to move back to Florida since we got married (he hates the extreme weather and politics here). I loved FL when I was there but have zero desire to go back especially with no jobs, family or friends there. We're all extremely close to my mom too who's now alone out here without us. Meanwhile my biological dad and his side of the family plus the rest of my moms family, whom we're also very close to as well, want us all to move back "home" where all of the family is originally from (Virginia). My mom will never move. She's close to 70 now and doesn't want to abandon the life her and my stepdad built that she loves. I don't necessarily want to move but I don't really think WA State is all that awesome and I'm really conflicted on what to do with all this pressure. We are blessed with friends, good jobs and a nice home in a good neighborhood. But the weather and politics are terrible as my husband points out, it's expensive and people are very cold and distant here compared to most places I've lived elsewhere. But everywhere has good and bad. I think staying put for now is the right thing to do and we're pretty happy but it's super stressful to me knowing my husband is actively just biding his time until he can get out of here. I want to feel secure in the life we're building and that he's proud of it. Not that it's just killing time. What if I never want to move? Will we just divorce over it or will I be forced to follow him? Or will I regret not moving back to VA where all my family is from so the kids have more of a family network than just my mom? Or will I regret it if I move away from her and she's all alone out here and gets sick or needs us and we aren't there? I'm trying to figure out what to do. I just always feel like no matter what I do or how I'm doing it, someone really important in my life is pressuring me to do something else and of course its 3 different states that couldn't be farther away from each other. It's not like neighboring states. SMH. I don't know what to do.

I'm trying to get to Sunnyvale tomorrow by like 11AM and then back by 8PM or so. I just saw that the caltrain is down this weekend, and I don't have a car. Here are the few options I've considered.

1. Renting a car. Even for a cheap car through Turo, this is probably going to cost me like $150 ($75 car, $30 young driver fee, $21 trip fee, $30 standard insurance). Enterprise/Budget also don't have dropoff at that time, so I'd be looking at renting for a whole day (or more cause some don't have dropoff on Sunday), and a comparable or even more expensive price.
2. UbeLyft. I looked a scheduling a ride for tomorrow morning, and it's going to be around $80 one way.
3. Public transportation. I checked google maps, and it's going to take 2 hr 45 minutes to 3 hrs and about $30 going all the way around East Bay to get there. Not to mention the time it takes to get back.

I guess I'm wondering if there is a public transit option that google maps is unaware of that can take me somewhere close to south bay and back in the evening that is a little bit shorter.

Heading into Dark Canyon in Utah in 1 week! I plan to spend 7-8 days going at a slow pace and exploring the ruins. I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience in the area? Expecting pretty good weather, good amount of water due to record snowpack in Utah, and not to many bugs - Does this sound right to you?
Im a pretty seasoned backpacker, but this will be my longest most remote backpacking trip up till this point. In terms of gear I have all the standard stuff. Most importantly I have a 10L gravity filter that I plan to prefilter with coffee filters, I’ll have all my food packed in a bear canister, and to navigate I’ll be using Avenza maps on my phone. I have an external charger, but just in case my phone dies or breaks or whatever I want to have a compass and map as backup.
I have some, but not much experience using a compass and a map in the wilderness. Can someone please recommend where to get the best trail map of the area? Can I order it online or should I go to the local BLM/Forestry office to pick it up? Any other tips, tricks or suggestions about Dark Canyon or about map reading would be much appreciated, thank you!

I’m graduating from an anesthesiology program, and will be starting private practice in August. My residency enrolled us in a 401a FICA alternative, and mine is valued at ~20k in a target date fund (RFKTX), and fully vested. I’m married, with children, on a single income. I’m estimating that my income for 2023 will end up around 200-250k between residency salary through June (~35k) + per diem at my home institution for July ($15k) + private practice ($150-200k).
My group offers a Roth and traditional 401k. I was thinking of rolling my current 401a over to a Roth IRA, and also making my 401k contribution for 2023 as Roth, as we’ll likely be in the 24% tax bracket. I figure the Roth IRA will have better investment options, better estate planning, and to my knowledge, is protected from creditors in my future state of practice (Michigan), just like a 401k would be should a malpractice or other judgement come against me.
However, there are some downsides to this, and I have related questions:

1. Roth = taxes, and I’ll need to pay federal taxes on my rollover, about $5k out of pocket to make the 20k into Roth money. Plus taxes on my Roth 401k contributions, obviously.
   
2. Question: if I convert the 401a into a Roth IRA after I move from Florida (no state tax) to Michigan (4.25% tax), will I have to pay state income tax on this rollover? Do I need to make this maneuver before leaving Florida (in the next couple months) to save $850?
   
3. Is the consensus to take advantage of the lower tax bracket and do the things I’ve listed here? I have 400k in student loans at 3.3% interest (unfortunately refinanced just before Covid). This means that starting January 2024, I’ll have ~7k/month payments x 60 months per my refinancing contract. We’ve mapped out our financial plan and expect to live off 120k, which gives us 3k left over at the end of each month after all expenses, retirement contributions, insurances, etc…but it’s still daunting to think about. We have 60k in savings from selling our residency home, but I’m a bit anxious about spending any money before we get a feel for our new life and income. There will be several thousand in costs associated with moving and setting up a new, larger rental home, as well as adapting to life in a new climate (wardrobe).
   

On paper, the Roth makes sense. But part of me wonders if it’d be better from a peace of mind perspective to go tax deferred now, put the tax bill money in the bank, and keep it on hand for all the changes and expenses coming our way. Thoughts?

Hey everyone. We drove up for Re:Set Dallas and are excited for tonight.
Been a bit confused and weirded out how little information has been posted about the festival. For months we thought it was inside at Texas Trust CU Theatre, and realized it was outside when a map was finally posted. As Texans, we all are used to heat but generally you are supposed to hide or be in the shade when it gets up to 95-100 in the powerful Texas sun for your own health. Or have constant water. We left our camelback at home (Amazing for Austin City Limits), because the festival was extremely clear all backpacks of all kinds are banned. Metal water bottles are also banned... great and also stupid.
A simultaneous event is also happening in New Orleans, which makes the schedule even more confusing. Boygenius heads to NOLA tomorrow. It seems like the promoter is either rookie or overwhelmed with this tour, maybe they are dodging Live Nation venues.
We just saw a post on twitter that they are low or have extremely low water and a few people saying they ran out of food and drink at the Bay Area Stanford show? Running out of food is one thing, but running out of water here is deadly and gives us 3/10 Fyre Festival vibes.
Currently, we are hydrating at our Airbnb nearby and going to head over right before Boygenius starts and when the sun is going down and temps are more bearable.
Feeling a bit sketched to go now and bake in the sun as there is no re-entry.
