2023.05.29 22:50 rubee_bee Give an absolutely delulu, museum obsessed rising junior a reality check pls ššš

UW/W GPA and Rank: 3.9UW/4.6W Rank: Top 10%

- Museum tour guide during summer
- FBLA treasurer
- Teen art council for museum
- Girl Scouts (senior leader rn)

Essays/LORs/Other: Not yet lmao

Biggest issue for me is financial aid so Iām mostly applying to full need schools or publics in NY. So far, the ones I like the most are Columbia, Harvard, and Notre Dame. Columbia is right next to The Met, Notre Dame has a special Smithsonian program, and so many high-up staff members at The Met went to Harvard. Would love a reality check to see if I truly stand a chance at these schools. I know that without tests or writing itās hard to guess but do I have a strong enough base of my ecs/gpa?
P.S. Not sure if this helps but I have a way of connecting my business/law ecs with anthropology

2023.05.29 20:52 One_Resolution_4762 Can I hire someone to build a computer for me and ship it? Who?
Currently, I have a pretty okay computer. I built it myself 3-4 years ago, and I definitely built it wrong, but I've dealt with it. Every time I turn it on It says that there is a CPU Fan Error, so I press F1 to run Setup, which leads me to UEFI BIOS Utility, where I then press F8 to go to the Boot Menu to select my SSD card, and then it works. The Graphics card rarely crashes when I'm playing, and it's a bit annoying. Basically, I'm ready for a new PC.I already picked out my parts; it should be a good setup. I am terrified to build it again, lol, because there are tiny issues I don't want to deal with again. Are there any websites where I can pick out the parts there, and then they build it for me and ship it to me?
Edit: I wanted to post the parts I picked it out. Input is appreciated : )

2023.05.29 20:34 TheQuestioner234 Reverse Chance me, please!
I'm not sure how to do a reverse chance me so please don't bash me too hard but here's my attempt at it.
Profile: Asian in the North East. Junior. Interested in going into the Pre-Med track for med school. I've talked with some faculty members of our local Med school and they've told me I've got a decent chance into their undergrad -> med school programs, though I'm not too confident in myself. I live in a small-medium sized town with a school size of about 1k.
Location: Maybe towards the North East, but I'm fine anywhere.
Size: Small-Medium
Intended Major: Biology (Pre-Med Track. I'm dead set in going into Healthcare.)
Colleges looked into: My parents really want me to go to an Ivy, though I doubt it'll happen. I've been trying to look into cheaper undergrads since I think it'll be best to save money if I decide to go into med school. I've mainly been looking into BS/DO programs and BS/MD's but need a good list of Safeties, Targets, and Reaches.
GPA: My school does it out of 100 and I am currently at a 95.3. After calculating it using the 4.0 scale it is around 3.79-3.88ish depending on whether schools include certain courses
(I have had 4 B's due to major depression and more during my sophomore year. 2 are 89s, 1 is an 88, and 1 is a 87 from this year's Calc 1. One of the 89s was from regular Chemistry which may look bad. Everything besides that is an A or above)
SAT: 1300 first attempt, trying to retake and get 1500 in August, Practice Tests have gotten me to 1470 so far.
Ranking: Top 10 percent out of a class of about 250
AP Courses/Course Load: Possibly 6 as my school only offers 7 with the one I'm not taking being art History. (I've been self studying for a few more, but I may not submit them if they're bad). I've been taking mainly DC courses as my school mainly offers them.
EC (all activites are from 11th grade besides the outside of school sports as COVID restricted a lot of things):
Yearbook Club: Marketing Manager + Treasurer
Mock Trial: Attorney + (Possibly secretary once elections end)
Debate Club: Treasurer (Possibly Secretary+ this year)
Multicultural: Member
(In School Orchestra: Wouldn't count it as it isn't really EC, but might get a position in it)
(National Honors for 12th grade possibly, maybe able to write it down)
Hospital Volunteering: Aiming for about 200 hours over the summer.
Winter Basketball: 10th grade, outside of school team
Spring Baseball: 10th grade, outside of school team
Hospital Shadowing: Possibly 44 hours over the summer? We aren't allowed to shadow until our Junior year. (4 hours shadowing EM Doc, 40 hours possibly in Clinical Lab)
Violin Trio (Junior Year)
Violin Quartet (Played at Senior Home, Sophomore Year)
Worked at my Parent's Business since Freshman Year
Awards:
3rd place regional mock trial
A music festival award (basically if you get above a certain grade you get it I'm pretty sure)
(Possibly AP Scholar depending on how scores end up, though I'm sure practically everyone has this)
(Honestly, I don't have too many awards)
LOR:
- Anatomy/DC Bio 1 and 2 teacher (8-10/10)
- English Teacher 11th Grade (8/10)
- APUSH Teacher (8/10)
- Counselor (8/10)
Please help me guys, I'm completely lost at this point and I don't know if I can make it anywhere ngl. I think those 4 B's will fuck me up along with having little Awards. I also think only doing EC's from 11+ for in school ones will mess me up. I'm just listing everything at this point and idk if it'll get me anywhere. Thanks for anyone who took the time to read this post!

2023.05.29 18:51 J_sharpe1 Colleges for me that will give majority/full ride MERIT scholarships?
Iām a rising senior looking for possible colleges to apply to. I want to make clear that I will not qualify for any need-based aid and will need to get merit based academic scholarships.
Stats: - GPA 4.0/4.35 (sure to go up after senior year to around 4.4) - 5 APs (after I graduate), 1 DE, 9 Honors classes.
Tests: - ACT: 29 (I am retaking in June and maybe July hoping to get a 32 minimum) - APES is the only test I have received my score back for, I got a 4. - I have not yet received scores for AP Bio, AP Physics 1, AP Psychology, or AP Gov.
ECs (not much but itās something) - Varsity Tennis - NHS - if it matters I have had a part-time job throughout high school as well.
Any thoughts or advice is greatly appreciated!
Edit: I know about Alabama, I am planning on applying there, is there any other colleges you guys know about with large merit scholarships?

Hi I am a Bio major and I have taken the ap calc test, pretty sure got a 5 or at least 4 on it, so does it really matter how I do on the placement test if I donāt even have to take the math course since I have completed the requirement.
I havenāt taken the placement test yet, but what are the topics that are covered on it, so I can prepare and revise.
Thanks.

Do they provide a seperate graph/grid sheet and does it have lines for subunits as well? Does your graph have to be so accurate that you have to get a decimal point correct? For example 33.'7' And can I use short forms like GC for guanine-cytosine to make my graph axis headings shorter?

Wednesday, April 5, 2000 - According to Adnan, the motion for a new trial was to have been argued on April 5.
- According to Judge Welch:
The sentencing proceeding was scheduled for April 5, 2000. On that date, Judge Heard granted Petitioner's request to dismiss M. Cristina Gutierrez as Petitioner's counsel, and agreed to postpone the sentencing so that Petitioner's new attorney had time to adequately prepare.
During the [April 5] proceedings, Judge Heard indicated that while she would not normally have the authority to remove Ms. Gutierrez as petitioner's attorney, the administrative judge, Judge Mitchell, granted Heard limited authority to hear Petitioner's request.

So, he's going to have Krista come visit, and tell Krista - in person - what to ask Stephanie. Then Krista will reach out to Stephanie via email, and act as a go-between Stephanie and Adnan. June 2, 2001 - Baltimore Sun: Lawyer Gutierrez agrees to disbarment - byline Sarah Koenig

Adnan writes that he really needs Rabia and that Warren A. Brown is an asshole. Adnan says that he understands Rabia is studying for the bar, has an ongoing custody dispute, and is job-hunting. It's okay if she's too busy because he knows she would come if she could.

Monday, March 19, 2003 - Adnan's Appeal Denied by Justice John J. Bishop, Jr..
- Justice John J. Bishop, Jr. Bio
- Adnan's petition for post conviction relief should have been filed within one year of this date.
- Inexplicably, Adnan waited seven years between this date and filing for post conviction relief. Maryland law allows no more than 10 years from sentencing to file for PCR. Asia's affidavit was obtained in 2000.
- Rabia wrote in her book that Adnan felt burned by the system, exhausted of funds, and didn't want to use up his last available option. He wanted to hold onto hope.
- In 2014, after the first two episodes of Serial were released, Rabia lied to the readers of her blog. She told them that Adnan was forced to wait 10 years to apply for post conviction relief. But Rabid knew that Adnan could file in 2003, and she knew why he waited. In 2014, Rabia didn't want anyone to know that spending seven years in prison doing nothing was Adnan's choice, and strategy.

Wednesday, May 21, 2003 - Adnan's 22nd Birthday

Wednesday, October 15, 2003 Thursday, January 29, 2004 Approximate, 2004 - Asia is working for JMP and moonlighting as a stripper. She is eventually fired from JMP for poor performance. Court filing here here.
- According to Justin Brown: Adnan's family took possession of Gutierrez's defense files at some point in 2004, after Gutierrez passed away. Brown says that he took possession of copies of Gutierrez's files in 2009. For at least five years, Adnan's family had sole custody of the defense file. Hence the term: "the remnants of the defense file."
- According to Adnan's July 2009 letter to Rabia, at some point in 2004, Chris Flohr recommended the firm Nathans & Biddle for his application for post conviction relief.
February 28, 2004 - Adnan has been in jail/prison for five years.
March 1, 2004 Friday, May 21, 2004 - Adnan's 23rd Birthday

Sunday, November 28, 2004 - Adnan writes Rabia:
- He is going to wait as long as possible to file for Post Conviction Relief. He wants to take nine years to research his case, and then hire a post conviction lawyer.
- [Ten years later, in 2014, Rabia lied to readers of her blog, writing that Adnan had to wait ten years before he could file for PCR.]
- He is not going to pursue the brain mapping idea presented by Chris Flohr.
- [Rabia writes in her book that they didn't pursue this brain mapping idea because Justin Brown wouldn't want anything distracting from the PCR. Trouble is, Justin Brown didn't graduate from law school until 2005, and wasn't Adnan's attorney until years after the decision was made not to pursue brain mapping.]

Given [Asia's] complete failure to respond or participate meaningfully in this case and her violation of the Courtās orders, the Court concludes that dismissal pursuant to Rules 37 and 41 is appropriate, and that no less drastic sanction would be effective.

Winter, 2009 - Approximate: Justin Brown has said that he began working on Adnan's case in late 2009, while still at Nathans & Biddle.

- Serial, Episode 1: Asia's fiancƩ comes to the door, opens it part way, tells the investigator that she cannot speak to Asia, but that from what he knows of Adnan's case, Adnan is guilty and deserved the punishment he got.
- Rabia: Adnanās PI returns with terrible news. Asia wonāt testify. The PI never spoke to her, but her fiance made it very clear, in a very nasty way that suggested an anti-Muslim prejudice, that Asia would not be involved and to leave them alone . . . Faced with a tough decision, [Justin Brown] decides to submit [Asia's] letters but not subpeona her for the appeal hearing.
- Asia Affidavit: In the late spring of 2010, I learned that the Syed defense team was attempting to contact me. I was initially caught off guard by this and did not talk to them.
- 2016 PCR: Asia testified that her husband met the PI outside, then came inside and told her he thought it was about that girl that got killed. That she asked her husband to take the man's card, but she didn't talk to him. That she looked up the case on the internet, and called Kevin Urick. Asia says these are the notes she took during her April 11, 2010 conversation with Urick. Asia testified that Urick convinced her Adnan was guilty and that Brown was trying to play the system.
End of May, Approximate - According to Rabia, Justin Brown asks Adnan to take a polygraph test to determine the likelihood that he is lying about having asked Gutierrez for a plea deal. According to Rabia, Adnan passes.

2023.05.29 04:55 daveramsyismybff Self Study?
Would it be wise to self study AP Macroeconomics for my senior year?
I have previously taken AP Lang, Lit, World History, US History, and Psych. I have scored a 4 on both Lang and World History and expect similar scores for the other three exams.
Next year I will be enrolled in US Government, however, nobody knows which AP math and science classes will be offered (stats or calc AB and APES or bio).
I will also be involved in numerous organizations but nothing different from what Iāve done these past three years.
While I donāt have that much prior knowledge, I have placed at regional and state AcaDec competitions for economics.

2023.05.29 04:09 ireallyhateyuki Is it worth it?
Alright so my freshman year was the covid year and I unfortunately was hospitalized so my freshman grades were ruined like 1.2 and 1.4 ruined. However I have never received a grade lower than a B since ( 1 B actually and 29 A's) my gpa sophomore year both semesters was a 4.2 and this year junior year I got a 5.0 both semesters (graded on a 4 scale). I live in California so I was gonna apply to the UCs since they don't use freshman grades for gpa, however they don't take SAT scores which I received a 1560 on but with super scoring Im at a 1580. My overall is a 3.5 so I'm gonna graduate with honors even if I take basic classes next year. My schedule next year is gonna be Ap lit, Ap Econ, Ap bio, Ap Calc, Ap stats, and Yearbook (for a second year). Realistically will colleges even want me. I worked my way back up but is it even worth it at this point man. My top school is either UCSB or NYU
