I do not know if what I will say is the most stupid idea ever. And I would understand if it cannot be done. But here is goes anyway.
TLDR: I would like to request a pilot card for Sgt "dead-eye" Unther. Let me elaborate why.
In a demo game I had, instead of the usual beginner box one on one scenario. I used the training missions from Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries, including the speech of "deadeye" Unther and we had a blast. Unther speech is colorful and adds that special sauce to the game, makes it more personal, beyond just chess with dice. In a way it adds an RPG feeling.
From the game we know Unther was known for abandoning his students in combat when things became heated up in combat. Not being dependable makes him even more colorful as a character.
The reason why using these missions work great, is because it teaches basic skills one at a time. The ability to move, then the ability to shoot, the ability to inspect and finally the ability to combat. Down below I will write tabletop details for the scenario for that demo. Learning these skills without the heat of battle makes the learning curve of AGOAC not to be a problem. Unlike a game that could last for hours, these missions are pretty quick, except for the final exam.
Years ago I got old Battletech miniatures in a trade store, which included the Javelin and with current CGL forcepacks, I could make the final exam mission to have a Commando and Catapult face a Javelin and a Panther.
The character is so colorful that people enjoyed the game. I just needed to write his speech and read at the proper moment. And other people also feel Unther is colorful, and to me he deserves a place, at least in a pilot card.

And I'm currently panicking, probably on the verge of a meltdown. This is just... not remotely what I expected or wanted. I'm not even sure if I want to continue at this point.
The reasons why I struggle so much with in-person learning revolve around anxiety and sensory struggles. When there are people and noises and bright lights and lots of different environments, I struggle to retain anything the professor says. On-campus learning is just too stressful for me, and the anxiety it causes makes it impossible for me to learn properly. I also have body imagine struggles that make acutely aware of being perceived by others. So, I told myself that, this time around, I would learn the way I need to by sticking to online classes.

TLDR;
- If you're entering this field, eCPPTv2 is not for you. Try eJPT. With the exception of the exam, the course is still free.
- If you have some experience, e.g., you know what HTB is, you regularly practice on the platform, you have some knowledge of web application/network security, but don't have much real-world experience, then go for it. You'll get a grasp of what kind of different areas are generally covered when performing a penetration test in various areas, and it will force you to write an actual report. But it won't, and I emphasise *won't*, make you a professional, highly-skilled hacker. The course is basically an introduction to the real world.
- If you're already working as a pentester for some years, it is tough to recommend. You might expand your general knowledge in areas you don't often encounter, and discover some tips for your cheat-sheets. If you're looking for a challenge to step-up your skills, this is not the way.

Hello there! I'd like to summarise my experience with eCPPTv2 course and exam and hopefully provide you with an idea if this certification is worth your time and money.
Who
I have been a full-time pentester for about four years. As for the technical side of my day-to-day job, I have experience with web/mobile/infra testing, code reviews, redteam engagements etc. etc. Before that, I was a full-time programmer (developer if you want) for about the same time.
Why
I decided for eCPPTv2 for several reasons:
- I needed some certification anyway due to some customer requirements and future legislation.
- From the experience of my colleagues, the materials were decent.
- I went through some of the eJPT materials as they are free, and I liked the labs.
Materials & Labs
I only got through some of the materials. I went primary for what I thought was necessary for the exam. Therefore, I skipped the wifi stuff, metasploit, partially powershell, and maybe some other minor areas.
I think that the slides do a decent job at explaining the given topics. Sometimes the amount of information can get pretty overwhelming, though. It sucks that you can't (officially) download the slides. Especially for someone who takes the course as a part of his/hewhatever career and knowledge development, the slides might provide a good reference in the future.
I'm not a fan of video-based materials in general but I watched them anyway. The topics were nicely explained, and one can see how the various tools and techniques work before trying them on your own.
On the flipside...
Materials should be reviewed and updated. You will find a few broken links, tools not available for download anymore, or demos presenting really old tools. Not a big issue in the end, but still, I wouldn't expect something like this in a course you pay over 700 bucks (for a year).
Sometimes I found the order of the modules confusing. Something like this happen several times:
- Topic A is explained.
- Lab is followed. You exercise topic A (and topic B).
- Topic B is explained.
No idea if this is by design, but I don't like it. If you want to do labs on your own and get stuck, you can end up thinking, "What the hell am I missing? I tried everything I just learned". Well...Maybe you didn't try something that wasn't explained yet.
As for the labs...
I liked them anyway. Labs are mostly narrowly focused, with well-written walkthroughs if you get stuck. Don't blindly follow walkthroughs, though. Always think about different approaches, what would you do if X or Y wasn't working, or what tool would you use if tool Z wasn't available.
Labs are the place where you should take notes and make cheatsheets. Full stop. Do it.
If there is something I didn't like, then the fucking VPN connections. Countless times I encountered connection drops, which made me pull my hair when I had to execute some kill-chain for the third, fourth time. Moreover, the target machines got a different IP address on every restart, forcing me to edit all my noted commands and payloads every time.
Also, there are small tests (quizzes?) you can take after completing a set of modules. Fuck them. Really. There is no point in bothering with them at all.
Reporting is discussed very briefly, in my opinion. It gives you an idea of how to structure it, a general idea of its content, and some references. Nothing more, really. I think they should go deeper. The exam requires you to write an executive summary and provide a description, recommendations and details for each finding. I can imagine that people who have never written such a document may struggle with this. Everyone has their own style when writing reports. It needs time, practice, and feedback before you brush it. But maybe they should provide you at least some idea on how to think when writing reports and provide some proper feedback after you submit it at the end of the exam.
Why I have such a problem with this is the fact that the course is named "Penetration Tester *Professional*". As I learned very soon, the report you provide to your customer is the most important part of your work. Your customer won't sit next to you to admire how cool, smart mega-turbo-hacker you are. You are helping your customer to find security issues and provide guidance on how to remediate them. This is basically what you do as a professional penetration tester. I feel like this fact should be emphasised more in the course.
I realise the points above might be just the result of my frustration, but sometimes I couldn't help myself to stop thinking, "Guys, people are fucking paying you for this course. Why can't you fix this and that".
Exam - Testing
It took me about six months to go through the materials (please note that not all of them as mentioned). I mostly studied for about two hours in the evenings after work and during the weekends. If you don't have a full-time job and a girlfriend, you can probably go through all of the materials in about half a year. My (not-really) educated guess is that the exam covers about 60-65 % of the materials.
My two cents:
- Don't overthink. The problems you will face when exploiting the targets and gaining root privileges are very CTF-like. Everything is simple and straightforward.
- Enumerate. Make some cheat-sheet for proper enumeration and follow it. As mentioned, the problems on the exam are not that difficult, just take your time to look for stuff.
- In the end, I felt like the exam is all about pivoting. Practice it in the labs. Understand how to route networks and how to forward ports. I used metasploit throughout the exam, and it was sufficient for it.
- Don't stress about buffer overflows. Take your time to understand it, do labs and take notes you can follow. If you do it properly, the actual exploitation will be a matter of copy-paste. I guess I won't spoil anything when I tell you that you don't have to worry about the advanced topic (very briefly talked about in materials) like beating ASLR, SEH-based overflows and others. It's a buffer overflow in its simplest form.
- Luckily, in comparison with labs, I had no issues with VPN connection or stability during the exam.
Exam - Reporting
I finished the report in about two days, but I had two major advantages:
- I've already written a dozen of reports before.
- I have a collection of findings I could re-use in the report with minor changes.
In cases when I needed some inspiration, I usually looked at findings in Nessus database (https://www.tenable.com/plugins/search) and expanded on it.

Today, we have the privilege of using ChatGPT. Be careful here. Don't blindly copy/paste its output! Always verify its results, get inspired, and put together your own version.
The report was reviewed in about three days. Got a response that I'm missing some details in the description of buffer-overflow exploitation. After submitting the report again, it took another three to four days to review it. A friend of mine was waiting almost a month, so I was pretty lucky.
I spent about 60 hours doing the exam, including reporting. From my point of view, the two weeks you have in total is plenty of time to finish the exam.

So, it goes back in 11th, where I first fell for her as our classes started. She is a very shy and smart girl who, like me, only hanged out with only a few of her friends.
About me, I was a very shy, not a very outgoing person and avoided interaction. Coming clean, I used to watch too much anime, especially in the lockdown period that my brain had rewired itself to act cold. I had no remarkable achievements, skills, nothing to take note of. Being as pathetic as I was, I picked up a bit of interest in Video Editing, albeit as a AMV editor but it was something. As well started drawing. Be that as it may, I was miserable at doing those both things.
When 11th started, after a few months, till the project works started in school, I didn't interact with her at all. But one day I mustered up the courage to talk her by making a excuse of doing CS project, I asked her whether she'll be my partner in it. She said accepted and we did the project and everything regarding it together. I had some of the best memories I've ever had in those moments. We talked quite a bit, but not enough for anyone to raise suspicion. In the entirety of 11th, I was unable to do anything flirtatious just because how much I treasured being with her and due to the fear of things not being the same afterwards, but as much as I felt that, I felt as if I'm wasting a lot of time. Even if I had told her how I felt and she had reciprocated, realistically there were only 2 years we could've been together, that is 11th and 12th. 11th finished. All the year, I tried spending all my energy into making myself someone one could find attractive, I was revamping my whole personality due to me acknowledging how bad it had become in these past years. Starting 12th, I purposefully tried to drag myself away from interacting with her because it was a very important year for both of us and I would've hated myself if I were to be a hinderance her studies. We talked more or less every now and then, did EVS project together, which had probably been the most lovable memory I've had yet. It hurt me all the time pulling myself away from her, we shared the same interests for movies, art, music. A truly wonderful person I've met. Exams coming closer, we both were despaired by the pressure of boards as well as other competitive exams, and as our school was... Let's say it had a habit of mixing the practical work just before the preliminary examinations. Time was a scarcity but we yet again did a CS project together. It was the last thing we'd ever do, but it had to be a hasty project. I've had learned a lot of about computers due to me doing editing and whatever comes along with it so I was quite well known in class due to my presentations in practicals and whatnot. So I pulled a all nighter and finished the project for both of us. Afterwards, the school gave us holidays to study ourselves before boards, I did not meet her for about a month. Before boards, our school, especially the students demanded that school should hold a farewell party for us, which went through and happened. That day after party, we went to eat ice cream. Be it the last day, I wanted my feelings to atleast reach her so I told her. I was shot down, she said, I was her best friend but she couldn't reciprocate the feelings. Weirdly enough, instead of being depressed about it, I was quite happy that I said it, I may have been shot down but the courage it took for me to say it was something my old self could never have done. She changed me in so many ways, and for the better. I have no resentment towards her, only gratitude. However, it's been 5 months since that incident, but I still haven't been able to move on. We still talk, like nothing happened. I don't know why, whether it is I'm arrogant or I'm unknowingly too damaged for letting myself move on and not believing what happened to the full extent. TL;DR I had an argument with my best friend of 9 years over text and she passed out due to that. She also had her finals on that day which I didn’t know of. I accused her of being selfish and prioritising studying over me every time.
I had a fight with my (f24) friend (f21) of 9 years. I got extremely angry at her when I learned that she won’t be able to go with me on a 3-week long vacation (we made plans together). I haven’t seen her in person since January. She’s currently in another country and she’s already bought a ticket to the destination. However, she wants to leave me there after 5-6 days because she wants to get some rest before next academic year at home.
I kind of remembered all the occasions when she prioritised her studies and accused her of being a selfish person. She didn’t even call me on my birthday this year. She got so nervous that she passed out at a university library shortly after that (she told me that).
Some backstory for context.
When I was in my sophomore year at college we had our first fight. The problem was that she could not spend time with me due to her upcoming exams. I’ve never failed to make time for her although I also had to pass exams. We made up, she didn’t get into her dream school, but she still got enrolled into one of the top schools in our country. I also study at a university which is quite renown and extremely hard to get into. This information is essential here. We both have sizeable academic workload and little spare time.
Ever since then I hardly saw her. We usually meet once a month and each time it’s on her terms only. I always stick to her preferred leisure time activities, i.e. riding a bicycle although I can hardly do that.
I suffer from headaches and it’s really easy to provoke one and she knows that. The last time we went cycling I was so effed up at the end I literally threw up. She’s also super into long walks and by long I mean that one such walk can last 5-6 hours no matter what the weather. It’s also super easy for me to catch a cold so each time we go for a walk in winteautumn I fall ill afterwards.
We grew apart last year. She was preoccupied with her studies and applying to a study abroad program. I'm not dyslexic, I don't have discalculia, but I have a math learning problem and I'm wondering if anyone else here has had a similar struggle or related insights.
I don't seem to struggle with abstractions in general, but as soon as things become written notation, they also become extremely slippery for me. In general I've always seemed to learn subjects better by going from high level abstractions, downward to specifics and applications. A lot of math education seems to be quite heavy on the inverse: procedures up, maybe never getting to the zoomed out view.
Due to unusual circumstances, as a teenager I didn't have teachers and was just left alone with a lot of books. At 16, I taught myself trigonometry the day before my math exam, passed, and still remember the basics decades later. - I seem to be good at anything visual (graphing, geometry).
- I'm good at the types of verbal logic problem found in math and CS entrance exams.
- Anything I struggle with makes a lot more sense if we find a good visualisation (i.e. Venn diagrams alongside logic notation, "completing the square" represented geometrically).
- My desire in learning is to have deep, systemic understandings, not just to memorise procedures. I tend to forget rote procedures if I don't underpin them with something systemic.
- I'm very able to grasp and explain a lot of high level abstractions, and the absence of some high school level concepts isn't an impediment to that; just to putting things into practice (over the past fifteen years, through other subjects I've grokked all sorts about set theory, fractal dimension, fourier transforms, identities, n-dimensional coordinate spaces; or the steps of constructing mathematics all the way from subitizing and counting, to quaternions, polytopes etc. These concepts don't seem to be hard for me to understand, relate to each other, and explain to friends).
- I absolutely suck at learning to express or understand new concepts in the form of notation.

I created this project to test the interest of parents in this type of products and develop the app if the interest was validated.
