2023.04.02 07:14 alex9834 The Haters Guide to the 2023 NCAA Basketball Championship
This tournament sure was...something. In the 14 years that I have followed the NCAA Tournament I have never seen it get this crazy before. This was a complete 180 from last year's Tournament, where we only had Blue Bloods in the Final Four, and a blue blood champion. This year, it is not the case. We have CHAOS.
Now, let us take a look at the failures, and boy do I have a few words for some teams here...
Arizona Wildcats - For the third year in a row, we have a 15 over 2 upset in the opening round. And Arizona was offered up as this year's sacrifice. To be fair, this isn't as big of an upset compared to other 15-over-2 upsets. Believe it or not, I actually saw this coming. The moment Princeton was announced as the opponent, I knew Arizona was gonna go down early. The Tigers just outplayed them and held strong throughout the entire game. Just like in 1996, when they upset defending national champion UCLA in the first round, the Tigers' next upset would unsurprisingly come against a Pac-12 team. Man, 15-over-2 upsets are becoming a staple in March Madness now...future 2 seeds better watch out...
Virginia Cavaliers - This was yet another upset most saw coming, but my god...I'm still stunned by this. Virginia was even leading for most of the game, but then they just imploded near the end.
That turnover...what the hell was that? I swear, Virginia must have sold it's soul for a National Title back in 2019...
Iowa State Cyclones - I swear, the Cyclones are like destined to bow out early in the tournament. It's as if its required by law for them to fall early no matter how high expectations are for them. It wasn't even a contest, the Panthers just straight up slaughtered them. Iowa State is one of the next contestants for my next Legacy of Failure script. But only IF they meet certain conditions...
At least the Cyclones lost to an 11 seed, and 11 seeds at least have moderate success in the tournament.
At least they're not these sorry sacks:
Purdue's Boiler Explosion - What the fuck. What. The fuck. WHAT. THE. FUCK. WAS. THAT. Don't get me wrong, I knew you weren't going to make the Final Four this year. I knew you were going to choke. But as a #1 SEED IN THE FIRST ROUND?! When you were favored by TWENTY FOUR TO WIN?!! Do you realize what you have just done?! This is quite possibly the greatest failure in the history of college sports! This was your ALL-IN year, and you fall to a double digit seed for the third year in a row? Absolutely unacceptable. Matt Painter is on a SEARING hot seat now.
One word, Purdue:
NUKE. Blow it up. You aren't winning with Painter. You aren't winning with this coaching staff. You aren't winning this core, and you aren't winning with these mentally fragile players who can't handle a shred of adversity.
Tick, tick, Painter and Lusk. It's time for a house cleaning in West Lafayette. Fucking Purdue...
YOU BLEW IT!!! Memphis Tigers - Penny Hardaway is getting Memphis on the right track. They won the AAC Tournament title over Houston, securing their second straight appearance in the Big Dance. But unfortunately, the Cinderella bug hit them, and it came in the form of Florida Atlantic, who won their first tournament game in school history. Memphis is still an interesting team nonetheless, and I'm eager to see how far Hardaway can take this team in the future.
Iowa Hawkeyes - Congratulations! Your team STILL can't make it past the first weekend of the tournament! This time you get rekt by Auburn. Fran McCaffrey continues to show that he cannot survive come March Madness despite his regular season successes. Iowa, if I were you I would find a new coach already. Fran is not the man.
Texas A&M Aggies - The Aggies had a solid regular season. They came close to winning the SEC Tournament title but got decimated by Alabama. Is this football or basketball I'm covering here? I'm confused. Anyway, it really seemed as if the Aggies had it in them to go on a reasonable run as they were a 7 seed, but then they went to Des Moines and got blown the fuck out by a team that hadn't won a tournament game in 22 years. The failure is always bigger in Texas...
USC Trojans - Despite losing the other Mobley brother to the draft last offseason, the Trojans still snuck their way into the Big Dance yet again. Unfortunately, Tom Izzo's Spartans killed any hopes they had of a deep run. The Trojans failed to conquer Sparta,
and it's time for me to break out this scene from 300 again... Providence Friars - After making the Sweet 16 last year, the Friars had another good team this season and were ranked for most of the latter half of the season. But unfortunately, Kentucky remembered last year's upset at the hands of Saint Peter's and decided to kill any hopes the Friars had of a deep run.
Baylor Bears - Once again, Baylor fails to make it past the second round. Despite maintaining most of the 2021 National Championship roster the Bears still cannot find it in themselves to get past the first weekend again. It wasn't even a contest, Creighton flat out controlled the tempo for the entire game. 2021 had better not have been a fluke for your guys...
Fairleigh Dickinson Knights - Congrats, FDU! You became the 2nd #16 seed to beat a #1! Your consolation prize is blowing a late lead to Florida Atlantic in round two. Eh, who cares. You still pulled off the upset. The fact that this only happened 5 years after UMBC's stunning upset over Virginia is the most shocking fact about this too. Now, no #1 seed is safe. We are entering a period in the tournament where even the lowest seeds are now potential contenders. It'll be interesting to see how 2024's tournament goes...
Saint Mary's Gaels - Ah, it's that other WCC team. Congrats on winning another tournament game! Your prize is to get absolutely slaughtered by UConn. Great...
Penn State Nittany Lions - Congrats, Penn State! You won your first tournament game in 22 years! Even though you took the Longhorns to the limit, a big run just wasn't in the cards for you this year. Can we grant another tournament win to Penn State and put them in the Sweet 16 instead of Texas? They deserve it a lot more than Purdue...
Pittsburgh Panthers - Congrats, Pitt! You returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 7 years! You even won a tournament game too! Though all good things must come to an end, and you get upended by Xavier.
Indiana Hoosiers - What in the literal fuck was that supposed to be? Weren't you supposed to make a big run this year? This was the best team you've had in almost a decade and you just decided to crumble like that?! Sure, Miami was playing the game of their lives but it still shouldn't have been a 16-point blowout. Well, could be worse I guess. You could be Purdue...
Kentucky Wildcats - Let's start with the good news first: You were not upset in the first round this time. Instead you get eliminated by your old friends from K-State yet again. Which is good because we don't have to deal with more arrogance from the Kentucky fanbase this time. Nobody likes Kentucky anyway, so there was much rejoicing.
Duke Blue Devils - Even with Coach K no longer in the College Basketball world, the Blue Devils still manage to appear in the NCAA Tournament as a reasonably high seed. They managed to end Oral Roberts' foolish ambitions in the first round (I really wanted to make more sex jokes from that...), but then got absolutely BTFOd by Tennessee in the next round. The Evil Empire has been stopped yet again. But they'll be back here again. The Blue Devils never stay down for long...
Marquette Golden Eagles - HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO TEACH YOU THIS LESSON, OLD MAN?! Once again, Shaka Smart cannot make it past the first weekend of the tournament. Tom Izzo's Spartans put him in his place yet again. For fuck's sake, it's been a DECADE since Smart's coaching schemes got exposed by John Beilein in 2013. And he still has not gotten the message.
Did I ever tell you what the definition of insanity is, Mr. Smart? Auburn Tigers - Thanks for allowing us to laugh at Iowa again, Auburn. Now enjoy getting slaughtered by Houston in the next round.
Kansas Jayhawks - For the second year in a row, the defending national champion falls in the second round. Kansas appeared as if they would have this game in the bag, as they led by as much as 10 throughout the game. But then the team just imploded. The Razorbacks fought their way back and managed to eke out the win in the final seconds. Cherish that championship, Kansas. It may be the only one you win for a while.
TCU Horned Frogs - It seems like TCU sports are on the rise as of late. Their football team made the College Football Playoff, and their basketball team entered the tournament as a #6 seed! They even won another tournament game! But unfortunately they failed to make us laugh at Gonzaga again, as the Bulldogs narrowly escaped with the win.
Northwestern Wildcats - Welcome back to the tournament again, Northwestern! Even though this is only your second NCAA tournament appearance, you managed to win another tournament game! But a deep run just wasn't in the cards for you this time. Even after giving UCLA all they could handle, it just wasn't enough. I hope the Wildcats are able to make it back here again someday. Chris Collins seems to have something good going at Evanston. Let's see how things go the next few years.
Missouri Tigers - Congrats, Missouri! You won your first tournament game in 13 years! Your reward is to get absolutely blown the fuck out by another set of Tigers...who were seeded 15th. Come on now. Sure, Princeton was playing the game of their lives, but it still shouldn't have been a 15-point blowout. You're one of the contestants for a future Legacy of Failure script, Missouri. Give me something to truly laugh at and it'll be icing on the cake.
Maryland Terrapins - I'm gonna save the Big Bill Hell's rant this time. The Terps seemed to put a decent fight in the first half, but the Crimson Tide decided that was far enough, and put them out of their misery.
Princeton Tigers - Congrats, Princeton! You returned to the Sweet 16 for the first time in 56 years, and are only the fourth 15 seed to reach the Sweet 16! Third one in a row to do so, in fact! But all good things must come to an end, and there was another team looking to end their own demons. Creighton returned to the Elite Eight for the first time since the year Pearl Harbor happened.
Alabama Crimson Tide - The third #1 seed to fall this tournament. The Tide controlled the tempo most of the game, but the Aztecs eventually took the lead and never looked back. Once again, Alabama's dream to be a champion in both football and basketball like Michigan did in 1989 has not come to fruition. Maybe next year?
Tennessee Volunteers - Tennessee manages to return to the Sweet 16. And that's as far as they go. It's time for them to be upset by an inferior team again, and this time it's Florida Atlantic. The only time it appeared as if the Vols controlled the game was in the first half. But then FAU decided they wanted to go further. They took the lead in the second half, even leading by as much as 10 points, but they didn't relinquish it, making their first ever Elite Eight.
Michigan State Spartans - Congratulations! Your team finally made it past the second round! But the Sweet 16 is as far as you go. And they screwed up big time. This was yet another game where MSU's opponent was doing their best to hand the game to them, but they once again couldn't capitalize on their mistakes. K-State was literally handing them the game on a silver platter. They blew multiple leads and were even pushed into overtime. They even let you stay in the game until the final seconds! But then you just had to fuck up and let Markquis Nowell dance on your ashes, even letting him make NCAA history in the process.
Houston Cougars - What the hell was that, Houston? That has got to be arguably the worst performance by a 1 seed in the Sweet 16 in recent memory! This was the best team you've had since the days of Phi Slama Jama, and you go and do THAT?! Jesus Christ, you're pathetic. It wasn't even a contest, Miami barely even had to fucking try! Well, at least you're joining a real conference in the Big 12 next season. Hopefully the opponents from that conference can toughen you up and make you more formidable in next year's tournament.
Xavier Musketeers - Congrats, Xavier! You returned to the Sweet 16 for the first time in six years! Enjoy getting absolutely mauled by the Longhorns.
UCLA Bruins - Now this was a shock to see. This was the absolute inverse of 2006. The Bruins build up a big lead, only for Gonzaga to come back and build a big lead...only for the Bruins to storm right back and go up by 1. Maybe this is a repeat of 2006?
"Strawther for the lead...BULLSEYE!!!!" And the Bulldogs have finally gotten their proper revenge for 2006, where they lost in the West region after blowing a big lead in the Sweet 16. Adam Morrison laughs, and the rest of the country breaths a sigh of relief as they don't have to see Los Angeles win another championship.
Arkansas Razorbacks - Great job, Arkansas! You managed to knock off the defending national champions! Your prize is to get absolutely steamrolled by UConn in the next round...by 23 points. Great...
Creighton Bluejays - Congrats, Creighton! You returned to the Elite Eight for the first time since WORLD WAR II!! And you're on the verge of becoming the first team from Nebraska to make the Final Four, beating out even the Cornhuskers! Imagine that! But it was not to be. The Bluejays built up a decent lead, and were on the verge of becoming the first #6 seed to make the Final Four since the Fab Five Michigan squad in 1992. But they couldn't hold it, as the Aztecs slowly crawled their way back. The Bluejays didn't really make any big mistakes, they didn't foul all that much, but at the end of the day it wasn't enough. They nearly sent the game into OT, but then...a last second foul call gave the Aztecs new life (
Refball? You decide.). They would lose by a point. They were THAT close. But I honestly can't be mad at them. Still a successful season though. Hopefully next year you can get over the hump.
Kansas State Wildcats - I swear to god, K-State has to be the most unlucky team in NCAA Tournament history. This was their NINTH trip to the Elite Eight since their last Final Four berth in 1964 and they fell just short yet again. And like in 2010 and 2018, it was to a Cinderella team. First it was Butler. Then it was Sister Jean's henchmen from Loyola-Chicago. Now, it was FAU. Despite having a strong roster, the Wildcats once again could not end their long Final Four drought. Folks like to talk about Purdue being unlucky, but I think the real bridesmaid here is K-State. Just absolutely brutal. Which is why they're a candidate for my next Legacy of Failure script.
Texas Longhorns - This was very much a Days of our Steelers season for Longhorns basketball. Head coach Chris Beard was axed following an incident where he beat his wife (
FUCKING IDIOT), and assistant Rodney Terry had to step in and clean up the mess. Thankfully, it was a good hire. Terry helped guide the Longhorns to their best season in ages, as they returned to the Elite Eight for the first time in 15 years. It appeared as if they were on the verge of returning to the Final Four for the first time in two decades! But then, the team straight up SHAT THE BED. Texas could not get anything going at all near the end of the game, as the Hurricanes came back from 13 points down to make their first Final Four.
YOU BLEW IT!!! Though lets be honest here, the refs were absolute dogshit. Calling blatant offensive fouls as fouls on the player guarding, are you fucking kidding me? Still, the Longhorns did screw up and blow that lead. Blame the refs all you want, but you want to know what would have helped? Not blowing a 13 point lead late in the second half. But at least Rodney Terry has shown that he can coach. Hopefully he can lead this Texas team to new heights in the future.
Gonzaga Bulldogs -
pukes uncontrollably Fucking hell, are you kidding me? What the hell were you doing all game long? This was your ALL-IN year. You were the top scoring team in the country. You had the best player in the nation in Drew Timme! And you got absolutely beaten to a pulp by the team that beat you in your first Elite Eight appearance 24 years ago. Sure, UConn was playing the game of their lives, but it still shouldn't have been a near-30 point slaughter. You managed to unleash the Pandora's Box of Locusts known as UConn fans on the College Basketball world. Your Legacy of Failure continues. UConn is still getting the best of you after all these years, eh?
Florida Atlantic Owls - Oh my god, it's going to happen! The Owls are about to make history! They're up by 14! Sure the Aztecs cut that lead down to 1 in the final seconds, not to mention the refs are absolute shit, but the Owls are about to make history and become the first 9 seed to make the National Championship! Let's hear it for FAU!
"They don't have their scorers on the floor...it's Butler, with 2 seconds, he's gotta put it up and...-buzzer sounds- HE WINS IT!!! HE WINS IT WITH THE JUMPER!!! A San Diego State Miracle!" OH MY MERCIFUL GOD!!! Well, this sucks. But it was still a successful season nonetheless. The third 9 seed to ever make the Final Four, and it happened in your second NCAA tournament appearance! Well, you'll be joining a better conference in the AAC next year. Hopefully you can make another big run like this again someday.
Miami Hurricanes - Congrats, Miami! You made your first Final Four in school history! And then the fun stops. UConn comes in to spoil the day. I would rip on Miami here, but nothing went right for them at all this game. Nothing. Missing 14 layups in the second half? Christ, that's brutal. Even though Jim Larrañaga tried his best to get Miami's stars on the right track, they were no match for the Huskies. Whenever Miami tried to strike back, UConn said 'Nope!' and put the Hurricanes on lockdown for the rest of the game. Nonetheless, this was a good run for Miami this year. You'll be back here eventually.
Whew, that was a crazy tournament. Now we're finally down to only two. And only one of these teams will be walking away with a championship.
Let's bring out contestant number one...
Connecticut Huskies
The Huskies have returned to the National Championship for the fifth time in school history, and for the first time in almost a decade. The last time they were here, the Final Four was held in the other major Texas metropolis of Dallas-Ft. Worth, and the Huskies became the first 7 seed in NCAA Tournament history to win a National Championship. Now, they are here for more.
The face of this revived UConn squad has been Jordan Hawkins, a sophomore from Maryland who has been this team's leading scorer in their past two matchups against Arkansas and Gonzaga, and it has been a long road for him. During the season opener he suffered his second concussion in his playing career and had to sit out the first two games, but he has thankfully made a full recovery and is playing better than ever. Joining him has been African sensation Adama Sanogo, a two-time first-team All-Big East award winner. He and Hawkins have been the bread and butter of this UConn squad, as both have been leading the team in scoring in a majority of games this season. Sanogo has also been this team's rebounding machine, as he has led the team in rebounds in all four of their tournament games so far. Rounding out UConn's Big 3 has been Andre Jackson Jr., who has been the Assists leader for this team in 18 games including the NCAA Tournament.
UConn has been the hottest team in this tournament thus far, as they've won each of their first four games by at least 10 points or more. Iona? 14-point win. #5 St. Mary's? 15 point win. #8 Arkansas, who just took down the defending national champs? 23 point win. #3 seed Gonzaga, who had three-time consensus All-American Drew Timme? Doesn't matter to them, they won by 28. #5 Miami? Even though the Hurricanes tried to put up a fight, they were beaten by 13. This Huskies team is absolutely unstoppable. The last two teams who won their first five tournament games by double digits both went on to win the national title - North Carolina in 2009, and Villanova in 2018. And it looks like history is about to repeat itself. UConn is hungry for it's fifth national title.
This #4 seed is playing like a #1 seed, and they are for sure the favorite to win it all. Just like every other time UConn has a solid team in the tournament, it's National Championship or bust.
Prepare for their wrath.
But not if their opponents have anything to say about it...
San Diego State Aztecs
The Aztecs have made it to the National Championship game. Exactly as everyone predicted at the start of the tournament. What this team reminds me of is the drug addict that has had numerous chances to get his shit together but constantly relapsed every time. And it's only through a reflection and a last second intervention that he starts to get clean.
For a while it felt as if San Diego State would never make it here. Former Michigan head coach Steve Fisher and his longtime assistant Brian Dutcher spent YEARS building this team into a contender. And the Aztecs have put up many elite teams over the years, but could only go as far as the Sweet 16 at best.
2011 seemed to be their year. They fell to UConn. In 2014, they were a 4 seed. They fell to Arizona. And after a series of first and second round eliminations, they finally got over the hump and made it to the promised land, though just BARELY.
This run has been far from easy for the Aztecs. They escaped by 7 points against Charleston in the first round. In the second they destroyed Furman, who just upset Virginia. Then came the Sweet 16, their opponent was the overall #1 seed in Alabama. It looked like another early exit for the Aztecs again. But then, a miracle happened. They rallied from 9 points down in the second half against Alabama to take the lead for good and make their first ever Elite Eight. And in their first Elite Eight, Creighton pushed them to the limit. However, they managed to overcome another deficit and escape by the skin of their teeth in the last second (Refball? You decide.). Same case in their first ever Final Four. They trailed by fourteen against Florida Atlantic, and it felt as if that was it. But then, the Aztecs pulled off another miracle to win by 1. That miracle's name? Lamont Butler. This team is the Energizer Bunny of the tournament. They will not die no matter how much stress you put on them.
SDSU's sudden appearance in the National Championship feels less like a "Glad you made it here!" and more of a "FINALLY!!". Considering all of the elite talent and top-tier coaching they've possessed over the years, it's still surprising that it took them this long to get here. But hey, better late than never.
Fuck you, Spanos!
The face of this San Diego State team has been Matt Bradley, a two-time First-team All-Mountain West selection. Alongside him is Ghanaian sensation Nathan Mensah, who is known for his immense wingspan of 7'4 ft, and has led this team in rebounds in two of their four wins this tournament. Other standouts on this Aztecs team include Jaedon LeDee, Micah Parrish, Darion Trammell, and Lamont Butler, who has led the team in Assists this tournament.
Brian Dutcher has built a winner this tournament, but we all know what his ultimate goal is - a National Championship. Though it wouldn't be his first. His first title came with the 1989 Michigan team led by Glen Rice and Rumeal Robinson, where he was an assistant under Coach Fisher. Now he's looking to win one as a head coach.
The Aztecs seek to become the first team from California to win a national title in basketball since 1995. That year, UCLA won their 11th National Title in school history by knocking off the "40 Minutes of Hell" Arkansas squad, a rather formidable opponent on par with this UConn team. And no team from California has done it since.
Will San Diego State be the team to break that drought, and become the fourth team from the Golden State to win a National Title? Will they become the first non-power five conference team to win a National Title since UNLV did it in 1990?
Will the Aztecs become the first team from San Diego to win a championship in either the pros or college, and break the San Diego sports curse?
And so, here it is. The Big East Empire of Doom, versus the Mountain West's only hope!
Time for battle.
EPIC NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP JINXING
Unfortunately, there will be no miracles this time. I think UConn has this one in the bag. They've been destroying their opponents with ease, like North Carolina and Villanova before them. No matter what you throw at them, they'll just push it aside like a cardboard box. Their 28-point win over a stacked Gonzaga team is proof of this. They always seem to have an answer for whatever their opponents throw at them, and therefore the choice is easy.
UConn will steamroll the Aztecs by at least 10 points and cruise to a 5th National Championship, tying with both Duke and Indiana for the fourth most championships.
Have a nice day.

2023.04.02 05:19 Goose_bread Thoughts ?
2023.04.02 03:48 mlgdolphin The holy bible
Book of Genesis Chapter 1 In the beginning God created heaven, and earth. 2 And the earth was void and empty, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the spirit of God moved over the waters. 3 And God said: Be light made. And light was made. 4 And God saw the light that it was good; and he divided the light from the darkness. 5 And he called the light Day, and the dark- ness Night; and there was evening and morning one day. 6 And God said: Let there be a firmament made amidst the waters: and let it divide the waters from the waters. 7 And god made a firmament, and divided the waters that were under the firmament, from those that were above the firmament, and it was so. 8 And God called the firmament, Heaven; and the evening and morning were the second day. 9 God also said; Let the waters that are under the heaven, be gathered together into one place: and let the dry land appear. And it was so done. 10 And God called the dry land, Earth; and the gathering together of the waters, he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. 11 And he said: let the earth bring forth green herb, and such as may seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after its kind, which may have seed in itself upon the earth. And it was so done. 12 And the earth brought forth the green herb, and such as yieldeth seed according to its kind, and the tree that beareth fruit, having seed each one according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 13 And the evening and the morning were the third day. 14 And God said: Let there be lights made in the firmament of heaven, to divide the day and the night, and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years: 15 To shine in the firmament of heaven, and to give light upon the earth, and it was so done. 16 And God made two great lights: a greater light to rule the day; and a lesser light to rule the night: and The stars. 17 And he set them in the firmament of heaven to shine upon the earth. 18 And to rule the day and the night, and to divide the light and the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And the evening and morning were the fourth day. 20 God also said: let the waters bring forth the creeping creature having life, and the fowl that may fly over the earth under the firmament of heaven. 21 And God created the great whales, and every living and moving creature, which the waaters brought forth, according to their kinds, and every winged fowl according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
4 22 And he blessed them, saying: Increase and multiply, and fill the waters of the sea: and let the birds be multiplied upon the earth. 23 And the evening and morning were the fifth day. 24 And God said: Let the earth bring forth the living creature in its kind, cattle and creeping things, and beasts of the earth, according to their kinds. And it was so done. 25 And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds, and cattle, and every thing that creepeth on the earth after its kind. And God saw that it was good. 26 And he said: Let us make man to our image and likeness: and let him have dominion over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and the beasts, and the whole earth, and every creeping creature that moveth upon the earth. 27 And God created man to his own image: to the image of God he created him: male and female he created them. 28 And God blessed them, saying: Increase and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and rule over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and all living creatures that move upon the earth. 29 And God said: Behold I have given you every herb bearing seed upon the earth, and all trees that have in themselves seed of their own kind, to be your meat: 30 And to all beasts of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to all that move upon the earth, and wherein there is life, that they may have to feed upon. And it was so done. 31 And God saw all the things that he had made, and they were very good. And the evening and morning were the sixth day. Book of Genesis Chapter 2 So the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the furniture of them. 2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made: and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done. 3 And he blessed the seventh day, and sancti- fied it: because in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. 4 These are the generations of the heaven and the earth, when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the heaven and the earth: 5 And every plant of the field before it sprung up in the earth, and every herb of the ground before it grew: for the Lord God had not rained upon the earth; and there was not a man to till the earth. 6 But a spring rose out of the earth, watering all the surface of the earth. 7 And the Lord God formed man of the slime of the earth: and breathed into his face the breath of life, and man became a living soul. 8 And the Lord God had planted a paradise of pleasure from the beginning: wherein he placed man whom he had formed. 9 And the Lord God brought forth of the ground all manner of trees, fair to behold, and pleasant to eat of: the tree of life also in the midst of paradise: and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. 10 And a river went out of the place of plea- sure to water paradise, which from thence is di- vided into four heads. 11 The name of the one is Phison: that is it which compasseth all the land of Hevilath, where gold groweth. 12 And the gold of that land is very good: there is found bdellium, and the onyx stone.
Book of Genesis 13 And the name of the second river is Gehon: the same is it that compasseth all the land of Ethiopia. 14 And the name of the third river is Tigris: the same passeth along by the Assyrians. And the fourth river is Euphrates. 15 And the Lord God took man, and put him into the paradise of pleasure, to dress it, and to keep it. 16 And he commanded him, saying: Of every tree of paradise thou shalt eat: 17 But of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat. For in what day soever thou shalt eat of it, thou shalt die the death. 18 And the Lord God said: It is not good for man to be alone: let us make him a help like unto himself. 19 And the Lord God having formed out of the ground all the beasts of the earth, and all the fowls of the air, brought them to Adam to see what he would call them: for whatsoever Adam called any living creature the same is its name. 20 And Adam called all the beasts by their names, and all the fowls of the air, and all the cattle of the field: but for Adam there was not found a helper like himself. 21 Then the Lord God cast a deep sleep upon Adam: and when he was fast asleep, he took one of his ribs, and filled up flesh for it. 22 And the Lord God built the rib which he took from Adam into a woman: and brought her to Adam. 23 And Adam said: This now is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man. 24 Wherefore a man shall leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they shall be two in one flesh. 25 And they were both naked: to wit, Adam and his wife: and were not ashamed.

2023.04.02 03:41 FenderJay Historical relegation form going into last 10 games
| It feels tighter at the bottom than in any other previous season so I had a look at how the 18th placed relegated team of each season performed over the final 10 games. What's interesting is that over the last few seasons, the last relegated team has fallen away and no team has managed more than an average of 1 point per game since Newcastle in 15/16 season. Current Season: Leicester are currently in 18th place. Looking at their last 10 games, they've only picked up 8 points. They've got to REALLY pick up their form as they're on course to finish on 33 points and go down. Everton have picked up 11 points in the last 10, however these have all been under Dyche's 8 games in charge. Under Dyche we're averaging 1.4 ppg and if we can keep this up, we will finish the season on 40 points. https://preview.redd.it/wtghhb8yidra1.png?width=1268&format=png&auto=webp&s=a2a68b6cc7e492549a40d9f9e72457ac10fdc69a submitted by FenderJay to Everton [link] [comments] |

Ethan Klein: Hey, Eren! Nice to meet you. I'm a big fan of your show.
Eren Yeager: Thanks, man. Glad you like it.
Ethan Klein: So, you're pretty good at taking down Titans, huh?
Eren Yeager: Yeah, I've had some practice.
Ethan Klein: That's impressive. But have you ever had to take down a giant piece of pizza?
Eren Yeager: Uh, what?
Ethan Klein: Yeah, my wife and I once ordered a pizza so big, it took up our entire kitchen. I had to fight it just to get a slice.
Eren Yeager: I don't think that's quite the same thing.
Ethan Klein: Trust me, it was a battle for the ages. And the worst part was, I still had to pay for it.
Eren Yeager: (laughs) That does sound like quite the challenge.
Ethan Klein: So, have you ever thought about taking down a giant sandwich? Maybe a Titan-sized BLT?
Eren Yeager: (laughs) I'll stick to the Titans, thanks.
Ethan Klein: Fair enough. But if you ever change your mind, let me know. I've got some epic food battles under my belt.
Eren Yeager: (smiling) I'll keep that in mind.
Ethan Klein: Awesome. Well, it was great meeting you, Eren. Keep up the good work with those Titans.
Eren Yeager: Thanks, Ethan. Take care.

2023.04.02 01:08 SoraDonaldGoofy99 Challenge Dex 20: Venomoth
The moth is done. After an INCREDIBLY rough start... I won. It did get easier and easier over time, though. I enjoyed it by the end, but the start was bad.
Up to Brock: Tackle, Disable I did start as a Venonat, and I made a point of starting with the earliest form possible and working my way up to the strongest state ASAP. If I had been doing this in Yellow, this would have been far easier, as Venonat was buffed to learn Confusion after some time. Here, though... UGH! I usually do not mention my nicknames, but I named this Venonat Scott's Thot. I think some of you may know the reference if you frequent the solo running scene. Finally getting to the run itself, I chose Charmander for the rival's team, and eventually defeated him. Even after beating him here, and taking on every trainer possible, it took me a very long time to clear Brock. 2:25. I did not learn any other moves to assist with this. Disable is good for exactly Brock's Onix, but the one thing it is for does not always work, as on top of it being a 55% accurate move, it has a 1-in-3 chance of hitting Tackle, Screech, or Bide. If it hits Bide while Onix is Biding, it will guaranteed paralyze Onix for a good amount of time most times. I ran out of both Tackle and Disable while fighting him, and won with 2 more Struggles at the end, and had only 1 health at the end. It felt like I took down a Titan with my bare hands. I won by Level 20.
Up to Misty: Tackle, Rest, Stun Spore, Leech Life It was relatively uneventful up to Misty. I caught a Pidgey and a Paras while running through Mt. Moon. This was the first time I had a reset on the Fossil Nerd. Grimer disabled Tackle, and I had to wait for it to wear off. The first time, I died before it wore off, and I had to work for it. The second time, I won. Before I could take on Gary 2, I had to learn Poisonpowder. The powder lowered health over time, and I managed to make it through after more resets. It was by now I realized I should have maybe taught Bide, at least temporarily, to give it something to attack with besides Tackle. Noted for later Pokemon in the challenge series... and I still didn't get Leech Life and decided to head to the S.S. Anne. I got stopped by the Team Rocket guy with Dig, and won on attempt 2, but it was funny that Disable got disabled. More than once. Shenanigans! I got to the boat finally, and just wanted to get rid of Disable so bad. I can't learn Body Slam this time, and then... Rest came to me. I beat the guys in the other side of the ship, picked it up, and tried Gary 3. Tried to win with Poisonpowder, but did not. I realized that I was running out of PP by now, left the boat, got the Bike Voucher, and dug back to Cerulean to heal. I figured my level was high enough to handle Misty, especially since I had Leech Life. Misty went down to Leech Life and Stun Spore. I tackled Staryu.
Up to Surge: Same Alright... Came back to the S.S. Anne on my bike, really happy that it had not left yet. I came back to fight Gary 3, and using Rest with Stun Spore to survive, I defeated every one of his Pokemon, even Charmeleon. Kadabra's defense is so bad it died to one Leech Life. I evolved into Venomoth after this point. Keeping Tackle for that long was messing with my head. Surge himself still wasn't bad, though. Voltorb and Pikachu both died to two Tackles, and then I beat Raichu with Stun Spore and a few more Tackles. No resets here funnily enough.
Up to Erika: Swift, Psychic, Stun Spore, Leech Life Rock Tunnel was going to be interesting. Like, I have the stats, but not the moves. Nothing was crazy, and I was even prepped to use Rest to survive Dudley/Boomer's team. I ended up winning because he blew up each of his Pokemon, and I lived through each hit. Thanks to Leech Life and Stun Spore. Gary 4 was going to also be interesting, but I remembered Swift, and upgraded to it without looking back, but kept Rest just in case. Pidgeotto was not a concern with Stun Spore and Swift. Leech Life killed Exeggcute, I paralyzed Gyarados, and Swift was okay for him, Kadabra still died to Leech Life, and Swift was again enough for Charmeleon. I headed off to Celadon, and picked up the drinks and a few Calciums for the road. I then picked up Psychic and dropped Rest, happy that it served its purpose. Once I got to the gym, I used Psychic to get through the gym.
Up to Koga: Double-Edge, Psychic, Stun Spore, Mega Drain Evolving into Butterfree here, it seems. Venomoth is just Butterfree that's able to get hit by Earthquake but also has better stats. I headed to the Rocket Hideout, did what I normally did, and won with both Psychic and Mega Drain. No issues. I picked up Fly for Pidgey. Pokemon Tower was fast. Then the Snorlax was easy enough. Koga was just as easy as Erika, but I spored his Muk and Weezing in an attempt to prevent the Minimizes and Selfdestructs.
Up to Sabrina: Double-Edge, Psychic, Sleep Powder, Mega Drain Now we're Butterfree for sure. Rival Fival was able to be done, but in this fight, Sleep Powder missed 4 times in a row. WHAT ARE THE ODDS?! Sleep Powder saved me from getting statused, and Psychic did most of the damage. Remembered that I forgot the Poke Doll for Mimic and got it. Didn't need to level up much. Got Lapras. Giovanni 2 was just as easy. I leveled up in the Fighting Dojo and beat some of Sabrina's trainers to get better damage, as Double-Edge wasn't enough and I needed more oomph. I managed to do it with Double-Edge, and my Venomoth was the better Venomoth.
Up to Blaine: Same. Pokemon Mansion was still one of the easiest treks ever. I used Psychic (with one or two Double-Edges) on everything besides Arcanine. I put it to sleep to avoid Fire Blast and won with Psychic alone.
Up to Giovanni 3: Still the same. Won with Psychic and Mega Drain when necessary.
Gary 6: Mimic, Psychic, Sleep Powder, Mega Drain I had to teach Mimic to win, and I used all my Candies. After stealing Agility, I took down Pidgeot, Rhyhorn, and Exeggcute pretty easily, even Psychic did an okay amount to Exeggcute. I used a sleeping Gyarados to get some health back, and tried to keep Alakazam asleep as much as possible. Same for Charizard, Psychic was enough.
Elite Four: Same moves I won the Elite Four in my first attempt.
Lorelei: I put Dewgong to sleep and beat it with Psychic while spamming Mega Drain on Cloyster. When Slowbro came out, I Mimicked Amnesia and killed it with Mega Drain, as well as Jynx, and then used Psychic on Lapras.
Bruno: Boy, I just killed his ass.
Agatha: Spammed Psychic. Somehow didn't get too messed up. Venomoth made me feel powerful.
Lance: Put Gyarados asleep and Psychiced it down. I then used Mimic to gain Agility, and then outsped everything and won with Psychic.
Champion Gary: Put his Pidgeot to sleep and copied Sky Attack. I beat it with Psychic, and Alakazam came out. I put it to sleep. I looked up Sky Attack's accuracy during this match because it kept missing. It's 140 power 90 accuracy in Gen 1, like Overheat/Psycho Boost used to be. I was getting so annoyed with this stupid move... Rhydon died to a Mega Drain, and then the palm tree himself appeared. I put him to sleep, and hit him with a Sky Attack, which NEARLY killed him, but Psychic was enough to finish him off. With Gyarados, I put him to sleep, took a Leer during some time of trying to sleep him, but Psychic ended it. My last Sleep Powder put Charizard to sleep, and Charizard died to Psychic eventually.
I won at Level 65 with a time of 6:24.

| No, please, give us a chance! ← Previous Episode Index Next Episode → MAL ANN AniDB Anilist AnimePlanet Heya, anime! Welcome to the Mod-Hosted rewatch, I'll be taking episode one as a first-time watcher of this show. All I know is that it's a parody anime where the main character finds themselves joining their schools anime club. Looking forward to seeing if the show does enough to make me laugh! You can see the full schedule on the main index post. Legal Streams Funimation (Sub/Dub) Crunchyroll (Sub/Dub) So, what is Animegataris, and why should you join this rewatch? u/badspler is here to say a few words on why you should watch this anime: Animegataris aired in 2017 and was largely ignored. It was a packed season... and lets face it: no one expected Houseki no Kuni to end up anime of the year. On the outside, it may look like a generic high-school club series, but its 7.78 MAL score does elude to it punching above what an initial glance might have you think. Animegataris is primarily a comedy; it plays into tropes and generic expectations only to later subvert them. The series packs a surprising amount of depth and into its short 12 episode run, and is largely tied together by the superbly focused cast. When it reveals its final-form, every joke lands and you realize just how much was built up to maximize the gags. And finally I would also be amiss not to mention that there is a neat romantic throughline that wraps the whole series up. Finally Animegataris holds a close place in my heart as one of the few series (Shirobako, Eizouken) that dives into the creation and production of anime itself. Having technical details explained well and then demonstrated in following scenes makes for an elegant presentation of artform. And, if you're looking for a bit of the MAL synopsis: After dreaming about an anime she used to watch as a child, Minoa Asagaya could not forget a particularly memorable scene. However, despite her best efforts, she cannot recall the name of the show. Due to this, Minoa asks for help from her fellow classmates at Sakaneko High School. Her conversation is overheard by Arisu Kamiigusa, the most popular and wealthy girl in class who is also a hardcore otaku. Yet even with her vast knowledge, Arisu does not recognize the show. After discovering that there isn't an anime club at their school, Minoa and Arisu create the Anime Research Club, as they may obtain the answer to Minoa's mystery if they gather people who share the same interest. Thus, Minoa is exposed to a bizarre new world—the world of anime! - MyAnimeList Synopsis Questions of the Day: - What did you think of our main character, Minoa?

2023.04.01 23:25 bluecjj NBA/ABA "dynasty" Rankings, Part 3 (Dynastenders)
Full Series:
I’ve been sitting on this series for a while, but because I don’t want to redo everything after the season, I want to hopefully get both of these last installments in before the end of the regular season. There are two teams on these respective lists (Milwaukee and Golden State) who are still relevant today, which will hopefully pique some interest. I might end up editing longer write-ups for some of these teams later, while still making sure to get the post out in a reasonable amount of time.
A “dynastender”, coined by Bill Simmons, is a team who won a championship, but failed to qualify as a Dynasty proper (which requires three or more titles in six or fewer seasons). While the Bridesmaid list had 15 entries (as it takes more to stand out without a title to your name), this Dynastender list is lengthier (23 teams), as winning a championship will give you enough points to get to 10 most of the tme.
It’s often said in contexts like this that nobody remembers second place, and you’d rather be at the bottom of this list than at the top of the previous one. However, thinking about it I’m not sure I agree. That’s true in one respect, but Bridesmaids do have the advantage of standing out for their lack of hardware; having the marks of a potential dynasty with zero championships is a compelling storyline, but if you do win a championship you might run the risk of getting blurred together with numerous other teams with similar storylines.
There are two slight changes I made to the rules when it comes to displaying players and coaches: [1] if a coach won a championship, they get included (Pat Riley wouldn’t be included on the Heat otherwise); [2] for a player to make the list for 20 Win Shares, only seasons where they’re top 5 on the team in WS count (my memory of the Bridesmaid list is vague, and I might have missed 20-WS players before, but this rule change makes it easier for me to not miss anyone).
Two more notes by way of citation:
- I got all of the data for this series from Basketball Reference.
- Credit to Joe Dimino for having his own NFL dynasty system shortly after James’ MLB one. His is part of the family tree of this one, although I don’t think I mentioned it in my original post.
Missed the Cut
I actually have to make some cuts to get under 40,000 characters, so this is what I decided to cut (I'll put this section in the comments). Besides, maybe it'll help build suspense for which teams did and didn't make the main list.
23. St. Louis Hawks, 1957-1961
Head Coach: Alex Hannum, Ed Macauley, Paul Seymour
Key Players: Bob Petit, Cliff Hagan, Clyde Lovellette, Ed Macauley
Dynastender Rankings: 9th-16th in Seasons (5), 19th in Points (12.39), 23rd in adjusted Championships (0.52), 8th in adjusted Finals appearances (2.07), 23rd in win% (.597), 20th in playoff win% (.528), 23rd in adjusted Net Rating (+1.3), 23rd in Top 5 aNR (+1.3)
Avg z-score: -1.08
Just like with the Bridesmaid list, we start with a team from the early days of the NBA; accomplishments like making two Finals and winning one are likely to be more impressive today than back when there were a handful of teams in the league. The title the Hawks did win also comes in at #3 on Bill Simmons’ footnote title list, due to a Bill Russell injury which weakened the Celtics. On the other hand, that was the only Finals loss that one of the greatest teams of all time suffered, and the Hawks took them to seven in ‘57 and ‘60. So maybe winning a single title is a “fairer” result than thinking only about Russell’s injury would lead one to believe.
22. Seattle SuperSonics, 1978-1980
Head Coach: Lenny Wilkens
Key Players: Gus Williams, Jack Sikma, Dennis Johnson, Lonnie Shelton, Marvin Webster
Dynastender Rankings: 21st-23rd in Seasons (3), 20th in Points (11.77), 16th in adjusted Championships (0.86), 15th in adjusted Finals appearances (1.71), 20th in win% (.630), 12th-13th in playoff win% (.593), 21st in adjusted Net Rating (+2.7), 22nd in Top 5 aNR (+1.6)
Avg z-score: -0.82
These guys might be the most forgettable post-merger team in this entire series, at least from where I’m sitting. Mike the NBA Guy agrees with me, as he made a
YouTube video with basically the same name. It probably doesn’t help that they didn’t have many memorable players, and that they played in the 70s; too late for the nostalgic Wilt/Russell era, but too early for the Bird/Magic era.
In ‘78, Seattle lost a seven-game Finals series to the Bullets, the worst NBA champion of all time (by both win percentage and net rating). The next season, they won an extremely nail-biting conference finals against the Suns, and struck back by beating Washington in five to get the title. 56 wins and a conference final loss in 1980 was enough to qualify for this list, but they weren’t able to sustain success for long enough to be remembered.
21. Miami Heat, 2004-2006
Head Coach: Stan Van Gundy, Pat Riley
Key Players: Dwyane Wade, Udonis Haslem, Shaquille O’Neal, Eddie Jones, Damon Jones, Lamar Odom
Dynastender Rankings: 21st-23rd in Seasons (3), 23rd in Points (10), 8th-13th in adjusted Championships (1), 19th-21st in adjusted Finals appearances (1), 22nd in win% (.622), 5th in playoff win% (.647), 17th in adjusted Net Rating (+3.3), 21st in Top 5 aNR (+2.0)
Avg z-score: -0.76
Shaq’s last real hurrah was in Miami, where his stint alongside Dwyane Wade was so short that despite winning a (
footnote) championship, his years alone actually wouldn’t have been enough for his team to be an official Dynastender. The 2004 series between Miami and New Orleans is otherwise rather forgettable, but the Heat qualified for that season- and for the list overall- because they were able to eke that series out in seven.
Relatively speaking, the only real bright spot keeping the Heat ahead of the Sonics is their playoff record; in fact, this is the first of five teams we’ll cover in this series who have a higher win percentage in the playoffs than in the regular season. Two sweeps to start off 2005 help, as well as two close series losses in ‘04 and ‘05, followed by a solid championship run where nobody took Miami to seven.
20. Los Angeles/Utah Stars, 1970-1974
Head Coach: Bill Sharman, LaDell Andersen, Joe Mullaney
Key Players: Zelmo Beaty, Willie Wise, Jimmy Jones, Ron Boone, Mark Calvin
Dynastender Rankings: 9th-16th in Seasons (5), 18th in Points (13.17), 19th-20th in adjusted Championships (0.61), 13th in adjusted Finals appearances (1.79), 19th in win% (.633), 10th in playoff win% (.595), 18th in adjusted Net Rating (+3.15), 18th in Top 5 aNR (+3.15)
Avg z-score: -0.64
If this team doesn’t look familiar, it’s because I decided to include the ABA for this series.
The LA Stars managed to make the ABA Finals after a 43-41 season in 1970, the year before they moved to Utah. The team improved after moving, sporting 57, 60, and 55-win seasons, and squeaking out a championship in ‘71 after seven-game series in both of the final rounds, including the mighty Pacers. Utah would be the 1-seed in the Western division the next three seasons, but lose in the playoffs: twice to the Pacers, and once to a team coming up on this list.
19. Rochester Royals, 1949-1954
Head Coach: Les Harrison
Key Players: Bobby Wanzer, Arnie Risen, Bob Davies, Arnie Johnson, Jack Coleman
Dynastender Rankings: 5th-8th in Seasons (6), 17th-18th in Points (13.17), 19th-20th in adjusted Championships (0.61), 22nd in adjusted Finals appearances (0.61), 14th in win% (.658), 23rd in playoff win% (.500), 14th in adjusted Net Rating (+4.0), 14th in Top 5 aNR (+4.3)
Avg z-score: -0.64
This Royals team is best known as the last time the Kings’ franchise has won a title; when you have to go back this far, it’s probably even more humiliating than simply having never won a title at all.
We have to go all the way back to the BAA for the start of this run; where in ‘48-49, the Royals had the best record in the league but lost the Division Finals to Mikan’s Lakers. Then in 1950, the new NBA had a best-of 3 format before the Finals, where the Royals got swept in two games against the Ft. Wayne Pistons. It was in Rochester’s worst regular season of this run (‘51) that they actually won the championship, in what was also their only Finals appearance. They sustained their run with three more moderately good regular seasons, but petered out in the playoffs against the Lakers (twice) and Pistons (once).
18. Kentucky Colonels, 1970-1975
Head Coach: Gene Rhodes, Joe Mullaney, Babe McCarthy, Hubie Brown
Key Players: Artis Gilmore, Dan Issel, Louie Dampier, Goose Ligon, Darel Carrier, Cincy Powell
Dynastender Rankings: 5th-8th in Seasons (6), 16th in Points (13.76), 21st-22nd in adjusted Championships (0.58), 14th in adjusted Finals appearances (1.76), 18th in win% (.643), 17th in playoff win% (.570), 15th in adjusted Net Rating (+3.7), 13th in Top 5 aNR (+4.5)
Avg z-score: -0.51
We’re back in the ABA, and to a team which somehow had six different head coaches in a six-year period of success.
Like happens occasionally in this list, the seasons where Kentucky saw playoff success aren’t the ones you’d necessarily expect. They had the best regular season in ABA history (68-16, +8 net rating), and lost in the first round of the playoffs. However, that season was sandwizhed between two Finals runs where they went 44-40 and 56-28 in the RS. They lost two Game 7s in those Finals, and even outscored the Pacers in ‘73, meaning this Dynastender run was reasonably close to becoming a Dynasty. However, they didn’t get to the 10-pont threshold until their actual championship season, with an impressive 12-3 playoff run including a convincing 5-game defeat of Indiana.
17. New York Nets, 1974-1976
Head Coach: Kevin Loughery
Key Players: Julius Erving, Brian Taylor, Billy Paultz, Larry Kenon
Dynastender Rankings: 21st-23rd in Seasons (3), 22nd in Points (10.14), 7th in adjusted Championships (1.13), 18th in adjusted Finals appearances (1.13), 13th in win% (.667), 4th in playoff win% (.656), 12th in adjusted Net Rating (+4.4), 20th in Top 5 aNR (+2.65)
Avg z-score: -0.49
Rounding out our ABA section is a short-but-sweet run of two titles in three years from Dr. J and the Nets. They also had a very impressive championship run at the start of their Dynastender, going 12-2 in the ‘74 playoffs. They then rounded out ABA history by beating the Nuggets in a six-game Finals in 1976.
16. Houston Rockets, 1993-1997
Head Coach: Rudy Tomjanovich
Key Players: Hakeem Olajuwon, Kenny Smith, Clyde Drexler, Mario Ellie, Otis Thorpe, Charles Barkley
Dynastender Rankings: 9th-16th in Seasons (5), 12th in Points (17), 3rd in adjusted Championships (1.90), 12th in adjusted Finals appearances (1.90), 16th in win% (.646), 12th-13th in playoff win% (.593), 22nd in adjusted Net Rating (+2.4), 17th in Top 5 aNR (+3.3)
Avg z-score: -0.49
We’ve left the land of historical footnotes, and from this point on these teams will mostly be remembered by hard-core fans.
With Michael Jordan spending his time either playing baseball or losing a memory-holed second-round series to Orlando, the man picked ahead of him in the ‘84 draft took advantage of the power vacuum. He led Houston to two straight titles, including an empathic upset sweep over the aforementioned Magic. Then they tried forming a
superteam with Barkley, but
John Stockton and the Jazz ended their season, and it turns out their Dynastender.
Hakeem’s Rockets are stuck near ABA-land, with their biggest problem being their weak regular seasons (both in terms of net rating and win percentage, plus missed opportunities for Points). Their second championship, and the Points it gave them, does help, but it can only propel them so far when every other category is lacking.
15. Philadelphia 76ers, 1966-1969
Head Coach: Dolph Schayes, Alex Hannum, Jack Ramsay
Key Players: Wilt Chamberlain, Hal Greer, Chet Walker, Billy Cunningham
Dynastender Rankings: 17th-20th in Seasons (4), 21st in Points (10.67), 21st-22nd in adjusted Championships (0.58), 23rd in adjusted Finals appearances (0.58), 2nd in win% (.738), 21st in playoff win% (.526), 8th in adjusted Net Rating (+5.15), 15th in Top 5 aNR (+4.1)
Avg z-score: -0.41
This franchise enjoyed three full seasons of Wilt’s services, and took advantage; with a stupendous 185-58 regular season record (a 62-win pace), and a ‘67 season which ended the Celtics’ eight-peat of championships emphatically.
That season’s East Finals ended 4-1 in Philly’s favor, with the Sixers outscoring the Celtics by a total of 50 points. Both of those metrics (the three-game and 50-point margin) were franchise records for Celtics losses; the three-game margin wasn’t beaten until 1983, and the 50-point drubbing wouldn’t be topped until 2004. Beating the eight-time defending champs this badly is extremely impressive.
Still, the Sixers didn’t count as a Dynastender quite yet until 1969, when the remnants of the team were able to amass 55 wins with Wilt no longer in town.
14. Boston Celtics, 1972-1977
Head Coach: Tom Heinsohn
Key Players: John Havlicek, Dave Cowens, Jo Jo White, Paul Silas, Don Nelson, Don Chaney
Dynastender Rankings: 5th-8th in Seasons (6), 9th in Points (18.52), 5th in adjusted Championships (1.53), 16th in adjusted Finals appearances (1.53), 9th in win% (.687), 14th in playoff win% (.588), 20th in adjusted Net Rating (+3.1), 16th in Top 5 aNR (+4.05)
Avg z-score: -0.28
After the retirement of Bill Russell, the Celtics were
nearly able to continue his Dynasty (spoiler alert!). 1970 was a dud, a sub-.500 season worth (approximately) -3 points. ‘71 was another playoff miss, but they finished over .500 (44-38), for -2 points. Boston finally got into the positive category in ‘72, but only for 2 points (56 wins and a conference finals loss), meaning that the Celtics satisfied criteria 4 for ending a dynasty (as ‘69 and ‘72 both had to be worth at least three points).
But while Russell’s Dynasty was over, a couple of the same players who were around for its twilight were able to put together a Dynastender on its coattails. Two championships and six seasons of success are both impressive, but other numbers are underwhelming. They have some distance between themselves and everyone below them, but their weak net rating and lack of a popping stat to make up for it keep them in the teens.
13. Cleveland Cavaliers, 2015-2018
Head Coach: David Blatt, Tyronn Lue
Key Players: LeBron James, Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson, Kyrie Irving
Dynastender Rankings: 17th-20th in Seasons (4), 10th-11th in Points (18), 8th-13th in adjusted Championships (1), 2nd-3rd in adjusted Finals appearances (4), 17th in win% (.643), 1st in playoff win% (.679), 16th in adjusted Net Rating (+3.45), 19th in Top 5 aNR (+2.8)
Avg z-score: -0.27
Of course, few people would think about this Cavs team in isolation; really, it’s a link in the chain of LeBron’s career, which is why I’ll be discussing him as the only player-centric Dynasty on the next list.
However, going through an exercise like this can help underline how special it is to make four Finals in a row. When we include era adjustments, only one other Dynastender that we’ll talk about beats 4 Finals appearances, and the only other one to match it is when LeBron did it with the Heat in the four previous seasons.
The one major asterisk everyone puts on this team is that the East was weak. That might be true, but it’s also overstated. Out of 133 Dynastender seasons, the Cavs’ strengths of schedule (per Basketball Reference) rank, in chronological order: 72th-75th, 97th-99th, 62nd, and 68th-69th. That’s nothing to particularly write home about (although the Cavs’ own weak point differentials meant they weren’t decreasing their own SOS as much as some other teams). Of 78 teams who lost in the conference finals since the 16-team playoff format started, the net rating of the Cavs’ ECF opponents ranked: 38th, 45th, 70th, 60th. Out of 156 second-round losers, Cleveland’s opponents ranked: 91st-92nd, 74th-77th, 55th-60th, and 9th. To be fair, these numbers would be a bit lower if you took SOS into account; but they’re not totally dismal.
In the big picture, it’s relatively rare for people to criticize the Raptors, or the Bucks, or the Big Three Celtics, or the Shaq-Wade Heat, because of a weak conference; even though all of these teams I mentioned have SOSs comparably bad as the Cavs throughout their Dynastender runs. But it was and is brought up over and over again for LeBron’s teams, because his teams were the only ones who were able to consistently
benefit from the weak conference. People were complaining about the lack of competition in the East, because when you’re up against LeBron the standard is so much higher to meaningfully count as “competition”.
With all of that said, the Cavs’ weak regular seasons, combined with the fact that LeBron only stayed for four years, anchors them out of the top 10.
12. Toronto Raptors, 2016-2020
Head Coach: Dwane Casey, Nick Nurse
Key Players: Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, Jonas Valanciunas, Pascal Siakam, Kawhi Leonard
Dynastender Rankings: 9th-16th in Seasons (5), 13th in Points (16), 8th-13th in adjusted Championships (1), 19th-21st in adjusted Finals appearances (1), 6th in win% (.693), 19th in playoff win% (.547), 6th in adjusted Net Rating (+5.4), 8th in Top 5 aNR (+5.4)
Avg z-score: -0.24
The Raptors are one of the weirdest entries in this series, as their run almost feels like three different ones.
The first chapter came as three consecutive solid regular seasons (56, 51 and 59 wins) that were all ended by the aforementioned Cavs. Then they traded for Kawhi Leonard and won a championship with him (A footnote title?
Or not?), for the second, one-season chapter. Then they managed to unexpectedly have a great season in the COVID-interrupted 2019-20 campaign, including a 60-win pace and a narrow second-round loss, for one final, one-season chapter.
Putting all of the pieces together, this run registers as an impressive one as far as regular-season success goes, finishing 6th among Dynatenders for both regular-season win percentage and adjusted net rating. Playoff success was a different story, which the aforementioned LeBron series (two of which were sweeps) are mostly responsible for (plus the fact that many of their series wins were close, including their last three wins in ‘19).
This run is
technically not officially over yet, but the Raptors would have to win the championship this season in order to extend it. Needless to say, that’s not very likely.
11. New York Knicks, 1969-1974
Head Coach: Red Holzman
Key Players: Walt Frazier, Willis Reed, Dave DeBusschere, Bill Bradley, Dick Barnett, Jerry Lucas, Earl Monroe
Dynastender Rankings: 5th-8th in Seasons (6), 8th in Points (18.6), 6th in adjusted Championships (1.44), 7th in adjusted Finals appearances (2.19), 15th in win% (.650), 11th in playoff win% (.593), 11th in adjusted Net Rating (+4.5), 11th in Top 5 aNR (+5.0)
Avg z-score: -0.20
The Knicks were
terrible for most of the sixties, never even reaching a .400 win percentage from ‘60 to ‘66. New York had never won a championship, so when the late Willis Reed’s famous heroics helped them beat the Lakers in 1970, it was truly a new leaf to turn over for the club. That season was followed up by a third-straight 50-win season, and then two more consecutive Finals appearances, including another win in ‘73.
10. Milwaukee Bucks, 2019-present

The NBA’s only reigning Dynastender (that we know of) lands
just inside the top ten. All of these numbers are only as of the end of last year, although the Bucks’ run is already confirmed as continuing another season (as they’ve gotten to 50 wins).
A pressing question, of course, might be how the Bucks’ ranking might change depending on their playoff results this year. It’s hard to project, because it depends on some specifics (like how their regular- and post-season records will shake out). However, if I change nothing but seasons/points/champs/finals to account for an NBA championship this season, the Bucks go up to #6 on this list (breaking into what’s currently a pretty solid top-6). Adjusting for a conference finals loss (adding one season and three points) would push them up two spots, to #8.
Looking at the profile of Milwaukee’s accomplishments so far, their net rating (3rd when adjusted for strength of schedule) is what sticks out to me the most. In fact, that’s an area where the Bucks will actually take a hit at the end of this season, because they’ve had a relatively underwhelming net rating this time around.
9. Los Angeles Lakers, 1962-1973
Head Coach: Fred Schaus, Butch van Breda Kolff, Joe Mullaney, Bill Sharman
Key Players: Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain, Gail Goodrich, Rudy LaRusso, Happy Hairston, Dick Barnett, Jim McMillian, Archie Clark
Dynastender Rankings: 1st in Seasons (12), 4th in Points (23.19), 17th-18th in adjusted Championships (0.75), 1st in adjusted Finals appearances (5.7), 21st in win% (.626), 18th in playoff win% (.552), 19th in adjusted Net Rating (+3.1), 7th in Top 5 aNR (+5.5)
Avg z-score: -0.04
The Lakers of Jerry West’s time represented a kind of dynasty of second-place finishes. Their nine Finals appearances in the 12-year run is incredible, although it’s adjusted down to 5.7 because of the number of teams in the league when they were accomplished.
These Lakers’ ability to contend for a long period of time is impressive, and if I did these rankings by Points alone, they’d be at #4 among Dynastenders on that strength. Weak regular seasons, though, prevent them from reaching thoe heights in my more complicated system.
8. Boston Celtics, 2008-2012
Head Coach: Doc Rivers
Key Players: Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo
Dynastender Rankings: 9th-16th in Seasons (5), 10th-11th in Points (18), 8th-13th in adjusted Championships (1), 9th-10th in adjusted Finals appearances (2), 5th in win% (.693), 15th in playoff win% (.581), 4th in adjusted Net Rating (+6.0), 3rd in Top 5 aNR (+6.0)

Known as a major step forward into the “superteam” era, the Big Three Celtics hit the ground running, posting their best season by far (67 wins and a title) in their first season together. As such, they’re the only NBA Dynastender to win a title in the first season of their run. Perhaps, that might be what contributes to this squad’s legacy; most teams have to build for a couple of years but the Big Three Celtics hit the ground running and made an immediate impression.
They had a chance to make a Dynasty out of it, but a Garnett injury hampered their chances in ‘09, and they couldn't pull out a Game 7 against the Lakers in ‘10. Great regular seasons propel the team into the top-10 Dynastenders, although the short length of the run and underwhelming playoff results limit how high they could rise.
7. Detroit Pistons, 2002-2008
Head Coach: Rick Carlisle, Larry Brown, Flip Saunders
Key Players: Chauncey Billups, Ben Wallace, Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, Rasheed Wallace, Jon Barry
Dynastender Rankings: 4th in Seasons (7), 3rd in Points (25), 14th in adjusted Championships (0.98), 11th in adjusted Finals appearances (1.98), 12th in win% (.669), 16th in playoff win% (.579), 10th in adjusted Net Rating (+4.8), 6th in Top 5 aNR (+5.7)
Avg z-score: 0.00
What really carries this Pistons team is their Point total, which is buoyed both by their longevity (7 seasons is a fairly good length for a run) and the streak of six straight conference finals appearances for which they are somewhat famous. Six straight three-point seasons (in the Dynasty Point system) has only been equalled by the Jazz (six straight), Russell Celtics (eight straight), and the Showtime Lakers (ten straight), so it’s a very impressive feat that’s worthy of putting the ‘00s Pistons in this kind of tier.
Because of how many deep runs the Pistons made, it’s not that hard to imagine a couple years going differently resulting in a Dynasty; like ‘05 (losing in Game 7 of the Finals), or ‘06/’08 (two six-game losses to the eventual champions).
Somewhat surprisingly, they don’t rank very highly in playoff win percentage, due to the fact that they won some surprisingly close series (like TOR ‘02, ORL ‘03, CLE ‘06) and lost a couple of lopsided ones (BOS ‘02, NJ ‘03).
6. Detroit Pistons, 1987-1991
Head Coach: Chuck Daly
Key Players: Bill Laimbeer, Dennis Rodman, Joe Dumars, Isiah Thomas, Adrian Dantley
Dynastender Rankings: 9th-16th in Seasons (5), 5th in Points (21.68), 4th in adjusted Championships (1.86), 6th in adjusted Finals appearances (2.74), 11th in win% (.678), 3rd in playoff win% (.678), 9th in adjusted Net Rating (+4.9), 12th in Top 5 aNR (+4.9)
Avg z-score: 0.13
The second straight Pistons team on the list is the closest Dynastender to being on the Dynasty list. The ‘88 Finals ended with two very close games (that
weren’t without
controversy either), both of which could have won the Pistons the championship. Had they done so, and still won the next two, they would get the requisite three titles (in six or fewer seasons) for the Dynasty label. However, this team fails to resemble Dynasties in both number of championships and in length; every post-merger Dynasty lasted at least nine seasons by mysystem, where Detroit lasted only five. The Pistons got their two titles, got eclipsed by the Bulls, and disappeared.
Playoff success carries this run, as the Bad Boys
nearly had as good of a win percentage in the second season as in the first. Unlike their ‘00s successors, they dominated series, winning 9 series by three games or more in this Dynastender run, losing only once by such a margin.
5. Dallas Mavericks, 2001-2011
Head Coach: Don Nelson, Avery Johnson, Rick Carlisle
Key Players: Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Terry, Steve Nash, Michael Finley, Erick Dampier, Josh Howard, Jason Kidd, Shawn Bradley, Tyson Chandler, Antawn Jamison
Dynastender Rankings: 2nd in Seasons (11), 2nd in Points (27), 8th-13th in adjusted Championships (1), 9th-10th in adjusted Finals appearances (2), 8th in win% (.687), 22nd in playoff win% (.512), 7th in adjusted Net Rating (+5.4), 2nd in Top 5 aNR (+7.0)
Avg z-score: 0.19
The Mavericks’ relative absence from the later rounds of the playoffs might have made you think that the 2011 team was a one-year wonder. However, that’s not the case. It was a year that topped off what was a very impressive run of success up to that point, at least in the regular season.
Every season in this run, Dallas had a record good enough to earn them points for my system (a 50-win pace). That’s 11 straight seasons, a very impressive feat that’s only been bettered by the Showtime Lakers, the Russell Celtics, and the Duncan Spurs. Dirk and co. were consistently good year in and year out, which is the driving force behind them making the top 5 of the Dynastender list.
Of course, what came between the Mavs and the very top of this list (or even a part of the Dynasty list) is a lack of playoff success. The playoff record (65-62) sticks out like a sore thumb, an atrocious 22nd out of 23 qualifying Dynastenders. The biggest symbol of said disappointment is the infamous series they lost to the 8-seed Warriors in 2007, following a 67-win regular season that featured an MVP from Nowitzki.
A disparity between regular season and playoff success that’s this large is really astounding, and the large sample calls into question the conventional analytic wisdom that the playoffs are basically just a noise-fest. Here are some highlights (or lowlights), as not everyone might know/remember much about Dallas’ playoff journey (I know I didn’t before researching):
- 2001: The Mavs overcome a big deficit at Utah in a decisive Game 5, but get destroyed by San Antonio in Round 2.
- 2002: A sweep against Minnesota, but a 5-game loss against the memorable ‘02 Kings team (including an OT Game 4 loss)
- 2003: Dirk gets injured during the WCF, and the Mavericks lose to the Spurs (although they benefitted from a Chris Weber injury the round before).
- 2004: Another loss to the Kings, this time in Round 1. Dallas misses two opportunities at the end of one-possession Games 4 and 5 to end the series.
- 2005: A comeback from a 2-0 deficit against McGrady and Yao’s Rockets, followed by an OT Game 6 loss at home to Phoenix to end the season (a Steve Nash three ties it with 6 seconds left, followed by a near-miss from Stackhouse at the buzzer).
- 2006: This run is fairly well-known, so I’ll ignore it.
- 2007: This one’s also pretty well-documented. It’ll also make you cry if you think about it enough.
- 2008: A convincing loss against Chris Paul and the Hornets in the first round.
- 2009: An impressive five-game win against the Spurs, followed by a five-game loss to Carmelo and the Nuggets, with three double-digit road losses and two close home games that the teams split (including a Carmelo game-winner after an uncalled intentional foul)
- 2010: Yet another series against the Spurs (the fifth in ten years); this one a 4-2 win for San Antonio as the 7-seed.
Dallas entered 2011 having lost in the first round three times in four years, and this long stretch of playoff failure made their great championship run all the sweeter.
4. Los Angeles Lakers, 2008-2012
Head Coach: Phil Jackson, Mike Brown
Key Players: Pau Gasol, Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom, Andrew Bynum
Dynastender Rankings: 9th-16th in Seasons (5), 6th-7th in Points (21), 1st-2nd in adjusted Championships (2), 5th in adjusted Finals appearances (3), 4th in win% (.703), 8th in playoff win% (.618), 5th in adjusted Net Rating (+5.8), 4th in Top 5 aNR (+5.8)
Avg z-score: 0.21
Fittingly, the Celtics and Lakers had Dynastenders spanning the exact same five seasons. The Lakers’ version gets the nod both because they won the 2010 matchup, and because the Lakers had more consistent postseason success, winning 62% of their playoff games (and making three Finals) to the Celtics’ 58% (and two).
There might be some quibbles about this run not being connected to the Shaqobe era, but the consensus seems to be in separating the two, and my system concurs (the ‘05-07 run of seasons is enough disappointment to put the kibosh on the initial Dynasty).
3. Philadelphia 76ers, 1977-1986
Head Coach: Gene Shue, Billy Cunningham, Matt Guokas
Key Players: Julius Erving, Maurice Cheeks, Bobby Jones, Moses Malone, Andrew Toney, Steve Mix, Charles Barkley, George McGinnis, Doug Collins
Dynastender Rankings: 3rd in Seasons (10), 1st in Points (30), 15th in adjusted Championships (0.88), 4th in adjusted Finals appearances (3.46), 10th in win% (.683), 9th in playoff win% (.603), 13th in adjusted Net Rating (+4.3), 5th in Top 5 aNR (+5.8)
Avg z-score: 0.28
Moses Malone’s “Fo Fo” Sixers only won one championship, but they had an extended period of relevance of which it was a part. In ten seasons, they made it to four NBA Finals and seven conference finals, only losing in the first round once. They also won 50 games in all but one season, the 47-win ‘79. In total, their 560 wins in these ten seasons ranked first in the league, with only two other teams (BOS 539, LAL 552) even getting to 500.
This team might slip through the cracks a bit, because apart from their one title, they’re often remembered in the contexts of their losses; they
lost to Bill Walton’s Blazers, they
lost to Magic’s iconic Game 6 performance, and they
lost the 3-1 lead against the ‘81 Celtics. These Sixers had the definite potential for a Dynasty if a couple of these (or other) losses went the other way.
My Point system loves this team’s longevity and consistency, as can be seen from their top rank in that category. They only end up outside of the top spot on this list because there’s two other teams who were particularly excellent over smaller periods of time.
2. Milwaukee Bucks, 1970-1974
Head Coach: Larry Costello
Key Players: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bob Dandridge, Oscar Robertson, Jon McGlocklin, Lucius Allen, Flynn Robinson
Dynastender Rankings: 9th-16th in Seasons (5), 14th in Points (15.66), 17th-18th in adjusted Championships (0.75), 17th in adjusted Finals appearances (1.51), 1st in win% (.741), 7th in playoff win% (.632), 1st in adjusted Net Rating (+7.6), 1st in Top 5 aNR (+7.6)
Avg z-score: 0.31
Of the teams you were anticipating on this list, the ‘70s Bucks might not have been one of them. They were from the “dark ages” of the ‘70s that everybody forgets about. There’s a chance that you knew they had a great ‘71 season, but not much else.
However, these Bucks had a heck of a run. They hit the ground running their first season without Kareem, immediately winning 56 games, losing in the Division Finals. Then followed
one of the greatest seasons of all time, where they posted a net-rating record that wouldn’t be broken for 21 years (and their aNR still hasn’t been beaten by a non-Dynasty), and dominated the postseason to boot. ‘72 was the Lakers’ year, but the Bucks were still nothing to sneeze at; 63 wins and a second-straight double-digit net rating (only the ‘15-17 Warriors and ‘96-97 Bulls can boast the same). Not only that, but they actually outscored the Lakers in their playoff series that year! ‘73 saw a disappointing first-round upset loss to Golden State (in which the Bucks also scored more points), but after a third-straight 60-win season (another feat only Dynasties share). Finally, the Bucks narrowly missed what would have been the NBA’s only four-season streak of 60+ wins (they won 59), and
an iconic Kareem shot forced a seventh NBA Finals game which they ended up losing.
I was originally as puzzled by the Bucks’ high ranking as you all might have been, but actually going back and breaking down all of their seasons has sold me on them. 304 regular-season wins over a five-year period is incredible, and they were just a few playoff games away from a Dynasty that would’ve potentially been remembered among the best.
1. Miami Heat, 2011-2014
Head Coach: Erik Spoelstra
Key Players: LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh
Dynastender Rankings: 17th-20th in Seasons (4), 6th-7th in Points (21), 1st-2nd in adjusted Championships (2), 2nd-3rd in adjusted Finals appearances (3.46), 3rd in win% (.718), 2nd in playoff win% (.678), 2nd in adjusted Net Rating (+6.4), 9th in Top 5 aNR (+5.1)
Avg z-score: 0.38
While this team isn’t the closest on this list to being a Dynasty (the Pistons are), in some ways they might be the team that
feels like a dynasty the most, or that most had the aura that many dynasties share.
From the moment Miami’s Big 3 was official, everyone knew it was the Heat against the world. LeBron infamously made a
tongue-in-cheek allusion to a mega-dynasty, and it was up to everyone else to try to stop it. The fact that this run has an air of disappointment about its final results, despite four Finals and two rings in four tries, is almost the biggest testament there is. Out of 16 playoff series, they only lost twice to two very good teams, but it’s still not quite good enough, precisely because this team was so good that perfection was their standard.
The Heat are a good example of the upside of my final ranking system, and its general favoritism towards short but great runs. Now that I’m looking at the list, it would feel a little wrong for the Heat to be 6th-7th, and not even make the top 5 Dynastenders, as would be the case if I went on Points alone. Yes, they only lasted for four years, but the way they defined the NBA for that stretch goes beyond most other Dynastenders.
We could, perhaps, touch on how much of a footnote 2012 should be, where there could be some arguments back and forth. On the one hand, I don’t really believe in footnotes based on shortened regular-seasons (at least in the NBA’s cases, where we were still left with decent regular seasons that were >half of a normal one), and also history bore out that Derrick Rose getting injured was more of a norm than an exception. On the other hand, the ECF we got was pretty close, which could lead one to wonder whether Chicago with home court could have tipped the balance in the other direction.

2023.04.01 20:57 wildfire393 My March Metroidvania Roundup
This year, I've decided to do a monthly post reviewing the MV games I've completed that month. Some of these may be replays of older games, but largely I'm going to focus on stuff with a fairly recent release.
Any review will obviously be subjective, so for some personal context, I tend to prefer games that are close to the Metroid side of things than the Castlevania side of things. I'm also a fan of MVs that shake up the formula, either by adding in a new element (i.e. Yoku's Island Express mixing in pinball) or by focusing on a specific element of the MV formula and taking it to 11 (i.e. Aeterna Noctis being super deep on the challenging platforming, the La-Mulana games taking the puzzle-solving/adventure elements to the stratosphere, etc). But I'm also fond of games that just get the fundamentals right and provide a smooth and enjoyable experience. I'll also try to add objective measures/quantifications on games where I can.
Ender Lilies - Quietus of the Knights: Ender Lilies is one that's been on my backlog for ages. It got a fair amount of positive reaction when it came out, so I picked it up, played past the first boss, and wasn't gripped so moved on to other things. A couple of times since then I've tried picking it back up, but had trouble sticking with it for more than an hour or two (around 6 total across all attempts). But when I asked this sub for recommendations as to which games on my backlog were most worthwhile, Ender Lilies was one of the most common responses. So I picked it up again and decided to stick with it through the end. Ultimately, my opinion hasn't really changed - I think it's not a great game overall, hampered by several questionable design choices - but now at least I can say I'm done with it and won't have it tickling the back of my brain. People tout its combat, but I found the combat both tedious and frustrating. Everything is stacked such that it's incredibly easy to just die in a basic encounter against a couple of normal, at-level enemies. Your attacks have long finishing lag, you get hitstunned and knocked back by every hit, you have basically no damage immunity after being hit, enemies deal contact damage, healing is limited per rest, and at-level enemies will generally kill you in 2-3 hits. Meanwhile, enemies can launch projectiles from off-screen, take ~8-12 hits to kill generally, don't take hitstun unless you break their poise (which takes a bunch of hits), attack with huge hitboxes, have frequent defenses like a shield or being able to fly/teleport away instantaneously, and are generally just annoying. The map makes things even worse, as every room is just a nondescript rectangle on your map/minimap, and you only get to see which room you are in and its connections, not where you are in a room or where you have/haven't been. Level design seems haphazard, with several other posters commenting that it feels almost procedurally-generated. The miserable combat makes exploration difficult, as you have to slog through enemies to try to explore things, and so many of the rewards feel like a pittance - think +5HP when your health bar is ~120 and enemies are dealing 80. Several of the midgame bossfights were major exercises in frustration and nearly had me walk away from the game despite committing to finishing it. Ulv and Julius both have sequences in their later forms that could kill you from full in an instant even if you were doing perfectly up to that point. Ulv fires some wave attacks that are spaced such that if the first hits you, the second will as well, and each did over half my HP. If he started the attack while I was repositioning with a dodge, I just died. Likewise, Julius has an attack on his final form where he shoots a large beam across the screen. It's impossible to block, dodge, or jump over this beam and it hits multiple times to deal well over 100% of my lifebar. The only possible way to escape is to get behind him before he finishes charging it, but depending where you start relative to him this can be literally impossible. By contrast though, the last two bosses felt like pushovers; the penultimate bossfight took me all of two attempts and the final one maybe five. The game was a bit more enjoyable doing the "cleanup" backtracking after acquiring all of the abilities, as the higher level plus all defensive relics plus closer to max health meant that I wasn't just at risk of dying to a stiff breeze. I've seen others criticize the last area as it has poisonous fog over much of the level that constantly drains your HP, but because you're fully equipped and leveled, it's ironically easier to survive and explore a little despite this. It's not an *awful* game, and it has some good positives like art/aesthetics, lore, music, etc, but I'd put it pretty firmly in the C or low B tier and definitely consider it overrated. Timewise it took me just a little over 20 hours to complete.
Side Scape - Side Scape is a fun little game that released at the end of January. The main hook is that it's really two games in one - you start out as a Metroid-style side-scrolling platformer, and shortly thereafter you get dropped into a Zelda-esque top-down game. You quickly find an item that lets you switch between the two protagonists, and in doing so, you switch between side-scrolling and top-down. The game is then built around using these two disparate perspectives to solve puzzles and traverse dungeons. The top down portions in particular feel a lot like the Game Boy Zeldas (Link's Awakening and Oracle of Seasons/Ages), which are some of my favorite games, but overall it has a very Metroidvania feel as well. The plot is fairly lighthearted and leans into meta comedy, definitely doesn't take itself too seriously. The only major downside is that the map is primarily just notional, you get an idea of the area you're in and how it relates to the others nearby, but there's no room by room breakdown (so similar to something like Imp of the Sun or Aggelos). There's also no fast travel, but the world is compact enough that that rarely feels like an issue. Overall it was about 6 hours, so a decent palette cleanser but definitely not a behemoth.
Vernal Edge - This was a highly-anticipated game that released last month, and unfortunately largely fell short of expectations. It does some things very right: Movement is fast and fluid, combat options are plenty with a moveset that feels like it could be easily ported to Super Smash Brothers, and the world consists of a bunch of different islands that can be explored largely at your leisure. However, it has some issues that hold it back as well. A few movement techniques have awkward timing, like the cloudstep, which takes you out of the fluidity of the rest of it. Combat is bogged down by overly spongy enemies that drag encounters out as you wail on them repeatedly. Most combats are restricted to one-time closed arena type events, meaning that much of the world feels empty after the first time you traverse an area. The islands are largely unconnected, apart from selecting them on the overworld, which detracts from the open-world feeling that Metroidvania games shoot for. Overall, I thought it was decent. It has great pixel graphics, a solid mix of platforming and combat, felt about the right level of challenging, has a lot of stuff to collect and explore with enough hints (X/Y items in this area found) to make it feasible to collect everything without just outright handing you everything. Plot and aesthetics-wise, it feels a lot like Iconoclasts, for better or worse. 100% completion took me around 14 hours.
Sheepo - Islets was one of my favorite games of last year, and so Sheepo has been on my radar for a while. I finally grabbed it after seeing it on sale this past month, and consumed it voraciously. It definitely isn't the full package that Islets is, but it's a damn good game nonetheless. It took me 4 hours to complete 100%, making it a bit on the short side, but it was a delight the whole time so it's hard to complain about that - there's definitely room for minivanias in the landscape of the genre. Sheepo doesn't have combat; there are boss fights, but they largely consist of platforming puzzles or timed survival segments. Each boss defeated awards you an egg, which then lets you temporarily shapeshift into that kind of animal if one is nearby. This grants you abilities like flight, burrowing, or wall-clinging. Like Islets, movement is butter-smooth, which makes the platforming focus feel great. It has the same kind of graphical and dialogue charm that Islets does too. This developer is definitely on my list of ones to watch closely.
Blaster Master Zero - The final game I completed this month, and I just barely managed to get it in under the wire. Blaster Master Zero is a remake/reboot of an NES title, and it definitely shows. There's some really cool Metroidvania stuff going on, but also some things that make you stop and go "yeah, this is absolutely the NES experience". The game alternates between two modes - one is side-view, with you piloting a tank that can jump and fire various weapons. You can also leave the tank, and enter into caverns, which take you to a top-down dungeon. The tank segments feel better than the pilot segments, which are plagued by a low walk speed and a fairly imbalanced weapon system. You pick up weapon energy as drops from enemies and crates, and you lose weapon energy when you're damaged. Each point of weapon energy lets you equip a higher-powered weapon, going from a short range blaster all the way up to a wave beam that pierces walls and enemies and traverses the whole screen. For the most part, if you can hold on to this strongest weapon, the top-down sequences are a cakewalk, with many of the bosses falling in mere seconds. But if you take a couple points of damage and are stuck using a lower-tier gun, the same fights can be next to impossible. A great example of this is a giant crab enemy that can only be damaged on his rear - using the wave beam, you can just hammer him immediately and he'll take damage as the beam passes through him, but with any other weapon it will bounce harmlessly off his face, requiring you to try to maneuver around him, which is very tricky to pull off. It also suffers a bit from not having quite enough collectibles. There's some health-ups, some secondary weapons for both the tank and overhead sections, and a couple of alternate main cannons and maneuvers for the tank. Almost all upgrades are found by defeating a boss, primarily in the overhead sections. Once you've acquired the map of a zone, every single cave with a boss is immediately highlighted on it, and exploring anywhere else is largely fruitless. There's a handful of caves that have nothing but a stock of pickups at the end, and some larger rooms and branches in the sidescrolling portions with nothing in most of the corners except maybe some pickups as well. Ability gating is limited as well. There's a few abilities that have gating, but generally only in a couple areas each, and there's not much in the way of backtracking that you can do except to a couple of inter-zone gates that are ability gated and located on the other side of a previous zone, with most powerups being attainable the first time you're through a zone. That said, overall there's a lot of promise here, and I'm still going to play the sequels in the next couple of months to see if they can improve on the formula. 100% took me about 8 hours.
Definitely my top picks this month are Sheepo and Side Scape, which were both on the shorter side. Lot of games with promise, but little that fully lived up to it.

2023.04.01 20:23 -GreyFox The Last of Us: Part 2 Autopsy
I feel like a coroner each time I came into The Last of Us Part 2, but it is fun to me. So here I go again.
The Last of Us: Part 2 Autopsy - by me, GreyFox.
I've stopped to try to make some sense out of this Story a few months ago?
Druckmann's thinking it's not common sense as we saw over that note where he comes out to explain why did we all felt wrong about the ending of Season 1 TV show. And yes, I did understood what he was saying, but as I did wrote about, Druckmann's it's highlighting wrong aspects to fully deliver his idea.
Having this is mind, it makes sense that Part 2 doesn't make sense. But I think I did find Druckmann's true ending behind all that mess. Which is my motivation to keep me invest in this mess.
BEFORE TO BEGIN:
This is long reading, since there is lot of mess to explore, and beyond that mess all the miss understanding of any one that love Part 2 Story for the wrong reasosn and finding again, wrong main messages.
Right at the bottom I will explain why Ellie spares Abby's. Yup, there is an explanation that makes sense.
But before. Some basics about story, bias, and haters, followed by the autopsy structured by Joel's Death, Ellie's journey, Abby's journey, and The ending explanation so you can jump right away, or follow my autopsy step by step.
TO BEGIN WITH - STORY PURPOSE
Druckmann's call himself an Storyteller. And The Last of Us Part 2 it's an Story Driven video game. Since there is Story involve, that means that this story has a final main message to show, and a teaching to deliver. Like Part 1 has a final message: Love. Or Inconditional Parent Love. This is Stated by Druckmann himself, so if you didn't felt that way it's Druckmann's fault.
Storytelling it's a form of art, and that implies making uses of themes which are indeed interpretative. So having different messages it's not wrong, but this Story has an unique final message and meaning, and the Plot of this story should drive you towards this end.
To be clear, Part 2 it's about forgiveness, this is stated by Druckmann's himself, surrounded by many interpretative complex themes. If you get something different, you are wrong and there is not better evidence for you to understand what a mess this game is. The second side Druckmann's decided to explore it's empathy, which it would help to forgive.
EVERYONE IS BIASES
Yes, that's how it is. It's not bad, until you make it bad justifying things that doesn't deserved it and trying to justify by making use of your own taste. You should not hold bias over evidence, or facts. You still can love flawed things, that's ok, but praising flawed things over others just because you say so, it's wrong.
HATERS GONNA HATE
Yes, but some people will look for answers when something doesn't resonate and if this persons can find those flaws the criticism will start. You should not try to hide those flaws under anything, like art, bias, phobies, or whatever excuse you could find. If you do, you will be holding bias.
For example, I could insult you. Then you will call me unpolite person. So you have evidence and facts. But I can say from my point of view I didn't insulted you, I'd just said the truth. So you are wrong, because I say so.
LET'S ROLL WHIT THIS
1. PART 2 STRUCTURE
It is structured in 4 main parts.
A. Joel's death.
B. Ellie's revenge.
C. Abby's journey.
D. Ending.
Z. Danny's (Just kidding).
2. EACH PART PURPOSE
A. Joel death it's about adding shock value. It's the act that will lead main character actions. It's your main motivation to keep you invested on this story. And this shock should mean nothing at the ending. You should be able to overcome this first impresion.
B. Ellie's revenge should show you why it's bad to seek for revenge. You will become a souless, irrational monster.
C. Abby's journey, contrary to some people believes, should show you all the WRONG about achieving revenge.
D. By the ending, since you already played Abby's side, you should understand why did Ellie spares Abby's life.
3. PART 2 AUTOPSY
Now, let's see the problems.
A. JOELS DEATH
For this story to works, you should feel like an impartial viewer. So you will not incline yourself to any side until you have to for the writer purpose. So Joel should be shown like a monster for both sides. Ellie's side because he lies. Abby's side because he killed Jerry's.
But we already know everything. And we already have choosed sides. So for this to work, you should know only what Ellie knows at each point, and only what Abby knows at each point of this story. The problem with this start it's that players who came from previous game KNOWS Joel, and Ellie.
For example, Ellie will not pick up some wild flowers and run full of love to hug Joel. And Joel it's not a dumb ass. Other wise he would had not survived 20 years on this new world, neither Tommy.
Of course Druckmann's stated out of Part 2 that Joel went soft, which creates conflicts, since before Joel's get killed, you will aknowledge he is on charge of security, and you will see him fighting a full horde along with Tommy, plus later on you'll see Joel killing a Bloater to save Ellie. So "Joel went soft" it doesn't makes sense.
All this information makes you start to fight with the story all the time. You have not control over these. It's the writer job to keep you rolling showing a consistent story which makes sense. That it's called Suspension of Disbelief. Don't worry, you don't suppose to know this terms to enjoy a good Story.
That doesn't mean that you, like a writer, can not kill Joel, but you gotta show the change. You gotta show how he went soft and most important, it gotta makes sense.
Even more, if Joel went soft, what about Tommy? You saw how he went through WLF lines, showing military tactics and expertise at sniping. Tommy's the one who identifies Abby's team as WLF's. But he didn't perceived the danger. Doesn't makes sense.
Ludonarrative dissonance is the conflict between a video game's narrative told through the story and the narrative told through the gameplay. It begins right here whit Joel and Tommy, and continue through the Story since it's about forgiveness and you will be killing a lot.
But in order to be showing any story about Joel and Tommy going soft, implies time invested on those characters which can wake up some feelings that you don't suppose to get. Remember you gotta be impartial viewer. Joel gotta be the bad guy for both sides. So Neil it's in troubles, and he gotta rush Joel's death risking showing retcon on that character, and too many coincidental events.
Yes, Joel also gotta save Abby's life so you can do juxtaposition later on with Joel saving Ellie and both of them not forgiving Joel. And YES, there is more juxtaposition to do at the end.
So the big problem on this part it's that you gotta forgive about Joel's and Tommy's skills, and you gotta accept this both survivors acting like dumb asses. Plus you gotta forget about Ellie been a mature young lady, becoming an irrational young woman.
And even bigger problem yet, it's about you accepting EVIL, and WRONG Joel as a player who knows and loves Joel. But even when it looks like Neil it's highlitghting WRONG and EVIL Joel, he doesn't. It's just how Ellie and Abby see Joels in this Story. I will expand this idea a bit down below at the ending segment.
These it's one of the worst mistake a writer can make, changing the characters behaviours out of nowhere, but Neil had no other choice here because he doesn't know how to solve Joel's death quickly without compromising the Story he want to tell. So either he hoped for the best, he was runing out of time after 7 years, or didn't even care.
2. ELLIE'S REVENGE
The second problem Neil gotta face it's how to show you revenge it's bad, pointless, and it will destroy you and your closest ones in the process. So Druckmann's has to show you and convince you that Ellie it's not looking for justice, but for revenge since you can not forgive Abby who stoled her chance to redeem herself with Joel. So Ellie been mad at Joel for 2 years should be enough to blame herself and spare Abby's.
Ellie's mad at herself for been mad at Joel's. Ellie gotta forgive herself. That's BS, Ellie still mad at Joel all the way till the end at the beach. But Ellie gotta avenge Joel's death, because even when she still mad at Joel, she knows Joel doesn't deserve to be killed like that. She still loved him.
What are the problems here? Well, we know Ellie, she will not be mad at Joel for 2 years. That's crazy, and we played Part 1 to see that such a thing never gonna happen. The major thing it's that Joel never explain his actions, he just remains silent for 2 years. That's not Joel.
Neil try to justify this new Ellie by showing you that it's hard for her to find her place and purpose on Jackson's. Farmer life it's not for her. She's affraid of infecting a lover from a kiss, and she's gay at this town with people like Seth. All because this "selfish old man" that didn't let her die with meaning.
So Neil, lacking the skills to solve the problem, choose one more time to retcon Joel in order to keep the story rolling. There is not explanation for Joel acting like that, Joel just keeps accepting the blame, while at part 1 Joel doens't give anything even when he knows his wrong.
Over Ellie's side, Neil will show you doubts. You gotta read her journal to fully aknowledge that, though, wich conflicts with your gameplay since you see how Ellie does face this killers with not remorse (after later on), except when she realize that Mel it's pregnant. And you can accept this since Ellie has a warm heart even when she kill in the search for justice.
Neil it's hoping that you forgive the killer of your father just because you was mad at your father. And just because this killer it's the daughter of another killer who your father killed when he tried to kill you at young age. But we need to forget that, since only Abby's knows this information when she reach the theater.
So Druckmann's will throw some water over Ellie's fire. She will start fully resolute on the seek to avenge Joel thanks to the Museum memory, but later you will see how she confront Joel's one more time about the vaccine, deteriorating her relantionship. And even later on she will found out the truth behind the hospital events. Doubts, and Dina's condition will mitigate her thirst for blood.
Because Ellie understand that Joel did wrong to The Fireflies in order to save her life, and by lying to her. She start to empathize with Abby. Since Joel also did wrong to Abby by denying the vaccine and killing the only doctor capable of develop a vaccine (flashback recording).
But in addition Ellie did wrong to Abby by killing Abby's friends and trying to avenge Joel, "this selfish old man who didn't wanted lose another daughter" (at Ellies eyes by that moment).
Even so Ellie has sacrificed so much, we can not understand why she stopped looking for justice, since Joel's deserves to be avenged. But that's something reserved for the end. She's ready to let Abby go at the farm, but PTSD doesn't allow her to live.
So Ellie goes for Abby one last time.
3. ABBY'S JOURNEY
Revenge it's pointless, and will make you lose your humanity, the only thing that it's left for Ellie after sparing Abby's life, right? Well, that's BS, but some stans love to share that point sometimes. Abby achieved revenge, and yet Abby's journey it's about redemption. Don't get mad at me, this is stated by Druckmann's himself.
Abby's ending it's over a beautiful sunrise beach coming back to her beloved Fireflies. So she doesn't end bitter and alone like Ellie. Why do you hate Ellie seeking to kill Abby's then? Doesn't Ellie deserve a beautiful sunrise at the beach by killing Abby?
Contrary to those who loves Abby believes, She's here in principle to show you the result of revenge. All the bad things you gotta face because you embraced and achieved revenge. All the bad things Ellie would have to face some day if she kills Abby's. And Druckmann's job it's trying for you to empathize with her somehow after killing Joel, so you as a player can forgive her.
Abby's journey it's more complex. As I said before in other post, Abby's a clean slate that Jerry molded into his own form. Abby accepts Jerry as the Good Guy, If Jerry does it, it can not be wrong.
So she accept that killing a child to obtain a benefit, an higly inmoral act, it's ok, since it's ok for Jerry. Abby's accept that sending people to bomb some buildings and killing Fedra soldiers it's fine. Abby's accept that sending Fireflies soldiers to die it's ok because it is for a bigger cause.
Later on, Isaac finished Jerry's works on Abby modeling the best WLF soldier since Abby doesn't discern between good and wrong, Abby's accept that killing Scars childs it's ok, since she shares Jerry's and WLF sets of rules and morals.
But Druckmann's stated that Abby's it's in a redemption journey after achieving revenge. So you will see through Abby's journey, why Ellie should stop looking for revenge.
Again, Druckmann's choose the wrong tools, like having Abby playing with dogs, having friends, and saving kids on a lame journey trying to emulate Joel and Ellie story at part 1. Other words for cheap manipulation. These is Druckmann's way to show you how in the right conditions a person who's beyond fixing can find redemption.
But there is more MESS, you gotta accept the extreme luck surrounding Abby, who just came, storm out, and found the one person she was looking to kill without even trying. Abby's lucks will lead Joel to this lodge where he will enter to the very bottom without any weapon, and stand right on the middle of the danger zone to be killed.
Do you still don't believe me about Abby's LUCK? Abby doesn't have a goal, she just flows with the rhythm.
She comeout from the ambush thanks to some WLF truck patrol.
She it's about to be hang and it's saved by her enemies Scars.
She's about to be punished by Isaac, and it's saved by Nora.
She went to Ground Zero, and she defeat the Rat King.
Abby's trying to kill Tommy and she's saved by Manny's head.
Tommy's trying to kill Abby, and she's saved by Yara.
Isaac it's about to kill Abby, and she's ssaved by Yara again.
Ellie has a full set of weapons to kill Abby's at the theater, and she choose a wooden plank.
Abby's searching by the Fireflies with a random clue that Owen Left, and she made contact by radio.
Abby's about to die at the beach, and she's SAVED!!! by ELLIE!!!
Abby's about to die under water, and Ellie spares Abby's and Lev lifeses. LUCKY ABBY!
That's bad writing, my friend. Also know as abusing Plot Armor.
PLOT ARMOR DEFINITION: Used to refer to the phenomenon in fiction whereby the main character is allowed to survive dangerous situations because they are needed for the plot to continue.
"I do think that he can't die since the inevitable plot armour is far too thick"
But you suppose to empathize with Abby because all the bad things that happen to her, even when she deserve it?
There is more problems since starting Abby's side, Neil it's contradicting himself. Abby will not stop until achieve revenge, and she can not move on until she does. Neil rewards Abby with a friend and hope in the form of sunrise at The Fireflies beach. Abby's life doesn't start until she killed Joel. So, Neil? Revenge it's good?
More writing problems? Yes, of course. Redemption means you accepting your wrong doings, and stopping forever changing your life for the good. You could say that Abby redeem herself by saving Lev, but that's about guilt. She didn't fight back against Isaac explaining that he was wrong, or even trying to convince the others, she only offered her life in exchange for Lev. Wich is some kind of redemption for Abby, since she didn't care for anyone but her before, and revenge.
Some people would say that Abby have to forgive herself for wasting her life on revenge, and push away Owen. Wich to me is BS, since she achieved revenge, she accomplished her pourpose, and we saw how fast she can fix her relationship with Owen, right?
She maybe, MAYBE understood that she lost her friends because she embraced revenge, but not because she killed Joel, that part it's ok for her. Why? Simple.
Abby's still looking for The Fireflies, the reason of all her problems to begin with, that means she still think that killing Joel was the right thing to do. So the cycle of violence will continue through her acts in the future. I see no redemption for Abby yet. Maybe someday.
Over all, Abby's messed up. She still thinks that her father speak to her through dreams.
D. THE ENDING
If you are still struggling about the Fireflies been The bad guys, just think this way. Will you allow a group of terrorist to kill your beloved child to obtain a vaccine that will give them more power against those who they hate? Do you see any good coming out of it? Even when their cause is for good, they are killing innocents aswell. You can not see a war coming between Fedra and The Fireflies? The Fireflies will share the vaccine with Scars risking their relationship whit WLF?
But let's comeback to the ending.
All this time Ellie was mad at Joel because she see on Joel a selfish old man who couldn't let her die. Ellie was struggling all the way to this point trying to understand Joel's decision.
In Ellie's head: "
Why did you Joel put me in this situation? My life doesn't matter in Jackson's. It could had mattered on that fucking hospital back then."
And later on also in Ellie's head:
'Why Joel? If you had letting me die back then you still be alive. Now I'm fighting people who were right on killing you, but since I love you I'm forced to do it (PTSD)."
The full ending explanation comes out of one Last Flashback.
After Ellie's having that final flashback, she stop trying to kill Abby. Let's explore that flashback, and what happened.
- The coffee analogy.
Joel shares his feelings in regard to his cup of cofee. He felt guilt for all that he had to trade in exchange for cofee, but to him it totally worth it. Because he loves cofee, he have no regrets.
- I'll do it all over Again
Joel's open asking about Dina. He is trying to make Ellie realize that her life matter for Dina. But Ellie didn't get it. Ellie thinks that's a lame way to try to win her back.
Ellie say "My life would've fucking Mattered" And Joel's answer firmly this time: "I would do it all over again" which it means: Wake up! Your life matter's to me. But Ellie didn't get it. She still thinks that Joel saved her for selfish reasons, but she started to see the real reasons on Joel's words bring in up Dina's.
Neil it's trying to explain that Joel's actitud it was guilt because Ellie's was having problems trying to find something to keep fighting for. Also she's having problems trying to find a place in Jackson's. But now that she had found Dina's, she's starting to see that her life matters. She just needed some time to understand, and that's why Joel step aside back then. It is heartbreaking for him since this means that Ellie doesn't see value in Joel's love.
But Joel it's saying even more. Joel it's saying that Ellie been mad at him for 2 years it doesn't matter to him. This is the hint for Ellie to not feel guilt about her behaviour. Joel doesn't blame her for been horrible to him. That's love. He would do it all over again.
Joel it's saying that he could die right now and he would have not regrets because he is not selfish, he loves Ellie. He would do it all over again.
Joel it's saying that his life didn't matter back then at the hospital when his chances to come out alive were against all odds. But Ellie's life does matter to him. Ellie's life matter to him even over Joel's own life. He would do it all over again.
But the most difficult part for us to understand: Joel's it saying that Ellie should not try to avenge him, cause he already accepted that someone, someday will come to kill him for what he did, but to Joel: Ellie's having a happy life it matters even more since he would do it all over again.
That doesn't mean that Joel's accepted that he did good or bad at that hospital.
Joel's is doing the ultimate sacrifice for Ellie to live. Joel's it's exchanging his own life for his babygirl to live. That's one more time Unconditional Parent Love.
That's all the effing meaning under "I'll Do it All Over Again". Druckmann's finally acccepting that Joel wasn't a selfish man, but a loving father instead. And this beautiful message will get lost under such a mess.
EPILOGUE
Now that Ellie finally understood Joel's not a selfish old man, now that Ellie understood his words and meaning, she can let Abby go.
Juxtaposition Joel's death scene Ellie realize that she became Abby's. She was killing Abby while Lev was unconscious like Tommy was back then. Even when she could had killed Abby, Ellie choosed to stop the cycle of violence.
Leaving behind Joel's guitar could mean either Ellie accepted that she doesn't deserved Joel's love, or She's respecting Joel's wish to die for her. But whatever that means, she's ready to move on. No more PTSD.
FINAL WORDS
Tommy. I didn't forgot about him. Joel confessing his sins to Tommy, it's for Tommy to understand that someday Joel would be murdered, and Joel wants to be sure that Ellie will know the truth about the hospital events. But this should also help Tommy to understand that Joel's it's ok with that. He already chossed to exchange his life for Ellie's.
About ending the cycle of violence, I think it's a mess too since Ellie had already killed enough people for some one to come in the future claiming revenge.
I stand my final opinion. This story doesn't deserve to be told. You don't have to destroy this characters to tell this story. And all the mess, all the horrific writing mistakes doesn't allow the players to see the real beatiful ending. Even those who bragg about getting the final idea, are wrong. I haven't see anyone on the stand side that could explain Part 2 story in this way.
That doesn't mean anyone do not knows, but there is so many people wrong that it's hard to see behind all that mess, just like Part 2 main message.
Z. And Danny, how could I forget about him! I'm hopping a DLC about Danny any day now.

2023.04.01 20:15 Maximum-Inevitable66 I think my sister is leaving us for a guy, because she doesn't want to do the work
I, 35 F, and my sister, 28 F, have lived with each other all our lives. She met her bf, 28M, a few years ago. We all moved in with each other and one more roommate the rent in our area is over 2,000 a month. With all of us, we can cover rent.
I'm raising two kids, not mine from birth, but biologically they are her sisters, my cousins, and so my paycheck goes to them—clothes, food, school, stuff, etc. I make the least amount of all of us, which I don't mind, it's a struggle but a job is a job and it keeps the kids fed. When we moved in they lived in another apartment for half a year, she paid her rent, which was 1/3 and we all got by. When he moved it the rent went to 1/4 which was nice.
The issue is the parking spot. When we moved in with were supposed to be three female adults, the last roommate is not related, but we've become close and she acts like an Aunt to my kids. Her bf came and he seemed nice enough from what we heard. I think that my mistake was heard, not met beforehand. A little more background when I moved out and got the kids I expressed to her that I'll need help with them. She told me that she'd be there. Assuring me that she would help out with everything.
The unexpected kids came because of the adoptive mom's sudden homelessness, she can't get upstairs, but she's safe now and in a place, where the kids are with me. I say me because I've done all the work. cleaning, washing, laundry, projects, bonding time such as parks, pools, and field trips, the up all night with fevers and sickness to those last-minute runs to get supplies for the class project due in the morning. From going out for dinner as a treat to scrimpling by with coupons and borrowed money that I pay back slowly.
We have fun little things we do like on payday we'll go get a cheap meal from a fast food place and eat in the parking lot with Reddit stories playing or going to do big laundry loads, like comforters and big stuffed animals we get ice cream from the water shop next door. I teach them how to cook, I want them to have this skill for when their adults, I assured them that life sucks, you can cry and be mad then we can do something as an outlet. I was a very badly abused child and have come a long way. I show them that being alone for a little be to calm down is okay and it's okay to feel things, cry and show emotions. I wasn't allowed that and was punished. We even play video games or draw, cook, talk walk, something to help ease stress and it is stress for them.
The problem came when we were working nightshift, before my roommate, I'll call her Sara, would watch them, it was summer, and then I'd get home and she'd go to work, and so on and so forth. I took the night shift. It paid more. But later she got switched to nightshift and while young teens were still uncomfortable leaving the girls alone. However, even with a bed here my sister and her bf didn't stay the night or even moved in all they way. No help with the kids. Another coworker and I became close and she ended up giving me rides to and from work, I'd make her food, and soon we became like another Aunt to the kids. they love her.
Still, we felt uneasy leaving the kids along and most family is out of our lives, they are very toxic and the mother, who adopted the kids, are now too old to care for them, and since I was picking up extra shifts to cover bills, I admit the lack of cleaning happened, and the apartment got messy. We cleaned when we could, and the kids helped, but we struggled. Being on my feet for 14 hours a day was hard and my roommate has the same if not more still helped out and on her own accord got he kids clothes, and shoes, the four of us even door-dashed together to afford electricity. Neither of us can get food stamps here, we make too much before taxes, and even with all the proof of our bills, it's not enough to get any.
We ended up getting a door camera because someone had been knocking on our doors and we set it up because three too four days out of the week the kids where left along overnight, yes, it's bad, I wish I could afford a sitter or had a family member I could trust. One of these nights I got a frantic call form the older girl saying they heard someone walking in the livingroom, like loud booths. There was nothing on camera and they were scared. I was working alone and could get to them, so I called my sister, who at the time wasn't working and her bf has a car.
Here's what happened, my roommate at her job was also solo that night, checked the cameras, saw no one, my friend who gave me rides had just gotten done with a double and was asleep answered her phone and sent her bf who raced to out apartment with a hammer in hand, my boss came in earlier, the police showed up and in the end four people came to the aid of these kids, being that roommate picked up a co-worker who was so worn out that she said she told her bf to go and she'd walk there if she had too or catch an uber.
Know who didn't show up?
My sister.
I got a call and updated here that they didn't find any more in the apartment, but we had the locks changed and got a second camera for the living room. it faces the front door. 3 people who knew these kids for less than 6 months came rushing to defend these kids. The coworker at the time lived 15 minutes away and was pretty sure he broke traffic rules to be there in less than 4 minutes.
Then when they moved in my sister and her bf brought a box here and there, slow-moving in and I mean slow. they have the master bedroom because they're a couple other two are single. However, the kids now are in my room. I got lucky with bunk beds and a bed for me and they fit in my room. The day they moved in they cleaned, they still had work and moved all their stuff in one go. At the time we wanted to get a couch because we had none and they insisted they had one. so six months later, a nice couch. I got home at the same time as my roommate and we went upstairs and it was nice, the couch looked great and my coworker and her bf where there, they were babysitting the girls, they did when they could and even though I offered gas money and money they refused and said the dinners I made were plenty and besides they love the girls. Coworker has become an Aunt to them.
My sisters bf offered me a sit on the couch, or so I thought because the other two where sitting down and I took a seat and comments how good the place looked and the couch was very nice and comfortable. they we started to scold me like a child, like an actually five-year-old who needed taking to because he was mad and it was hot and they had to clean while they moved, we're upstairs it was a struggle and I was told they had a lot of people helping them, turns out they didn't. the assumption was that we'd all be there to help. We weren't asked.
He also had the nerve to try to corner my roommate, stalked over to her and was towering over her and I have this weird thing, I don't know if this is normal, someone called it mama bear mode but I stood up and got in between them and yelled at him that he wasn't going to come into this damn apartment and complain and yell about it when they haven't been here. Not when we struggled with the kids, and I'm not blaming the kids but they were unexpected, I love them, but he tried to blame the pilled-up dishes, which got done once or twice a week, the left over food, and stuff that was left on the floor. I shop at a warehouse and I left the paper towels and toilet paper on the floor of the living room and I didn't notice when they kids were done eating the 5 buck chicken they left the box there or I would have tossed it out on my way to work. He right off the bat tried to lay down the rules of the apartment he choose himself and I got in his face. I stood right up to him and told him if he thought he was gonna come in here and make demands and talk to my kids and set rules or even us he had another thing coming.
He backed down after a stare-off and went to his room like a child. My sister could hear and see the whole thing from where she was in the kitchen. Said nothing. It's an open space and yes, the kids saw it. I'm ashamed they did but he wasn't going to push me around. I took off to complain to my gf, we're long distance and now engaged, about it and she even asked why he came in acting like he could control things. As we were talking he approached me and said he was sorry. the heat must have gotten to him. We made nice, but I kept him at arms length. I have issues with men, but that's my problem, not his or any other male. Mine is from trauma, not from man-hating.
Months ongoing.
I do 94% of the work with the kids, the extra stuff, and even a second job, which I lost due, but it kept us afloat, all things with the kids I do, my roommate and co-worker pick up the rest. New job lets me work while the kids are at school, so no worrying about them being home along, and when I do have to work, Sara or coworker, who they kis now call Aunties, watch them.
Tax season came, I claimed the girls, I cleaned them last year as watched them. My sister two months later did her taxes and both her and her bf make more then me, 5 bucks more, and she asked me if she could claim the girls this year. This was talked about last year and since I took care of them all the time the year before I told her if she did all the work, then yes. that's fair. She didn't and when she calmed if she could claim one I told her no. I did everything and spending less then a few hours with them a month doesn't count. And her giving me 40 bucks maybe once a month for gas and for water is nice, but I pay her back and she never takes care of the kids. So I claimed then got a decent amount back.
I got took them shopping for new bedding, clothes, socks, shoes, I took them out to eat at places that I can't afford often, such as Applebees, and this year an even place that has bowling, games, laser tag and so on. I stocked up on essential to ease the next six, months, toothpaste, hair products, both have very different hair, brushes, pantry items, electricity, towels, toothbrushes, nothing expensive I still stuck to what was affordable. I even was able to get them some toys they wanted, stuffed animals, some name-brand snacks, and of course we went and even saw two movies at the drive-ins.
So, my sister let it go and said "It's fine I have a high paying job." and this line is something I'm sick off. She reminds me often that she has a high paying job and I don't. I asked her to stop saying it. It make me feel bad? Yes. Am I jealous? No. I'm happy for her, just wish she'd stop telling me a few times a week. Since she had two jobs this year, via at the start for three months then a new one she had to file two forms. w2s and she was mad at the fee and she came home mad and told me she was only getting back 700 and that's why she needed to claim at least one kid.
I told her if she wanted too, then do have the work, doctors, schoolwork, washing, cleaning, mopping, etc. in the last year they lived her they cleaned the living room maybe 3 to 5 times. Their dog makes a mess, my kids do two, but the kids help me clean up. It's been a long thing with them learning to clean up because they freak out about wondering if they're going to be homeless again. They are not. I'm in fact looking for a job to do online so I can assure them they have decent lives and not hard. I try to hide things from them like now when groceries are expensive I tell them I ate when they were asleep or that my stomach is acting up or even that I had a big bowl of veggies. I skip meals to make sure they have enough. My check goes to bills and the kids, I think that is the right thing to do but my sister says she's gonna help.
I'm always met with "I try." and "I can't." Even on the four days off she claims that she tries to spend time with the kids. Now my two days aline with them, weekends, and I'm always with them. She hasn't asked them and then went we invite her to eating out once a week with our fast food meal and get ice cream. she says no. She tried to say that we don't invite her, we do. she's always with her bf. They work together, live together, they go partying on weekends, and I told her can. that's her choice but don't claim that we don't try. One week while I had two jobs, before I lost it, I was doing so badly on my depression. the dishes got piled up, I was struggling to cook the kids basic meals and even though they are learning to cook, its was hard finding the time.
I pulled out if it, fighting as hard as I could and while cleaning one of them said they might as well tell me because they needed money for snowcones at school. I figured I had enough frozen, meat and canned and box goods so I surprised them and gave them each 10 bucks. the cones are 3 for a small and 5 for a large. they could use the money for candies or chips. They were happy and they said they were worried so I told them to ask me and I'd always see what I could get and even if I couldn't roommate and co-worker sent money for snacks or got them things here and there even dinners when I was depressed. That's when the younger one, a year older, said they had a deadline to get the living room, dining room, and kitchen clean. I mean sparkling.
I was confused and wondered if they had planned a nice surprise for me and just didn't do it because they didn't and they ended up telling me that my sister and her bf told them if they did, they'd give them 30 bucks each. however, they said that each time they came in, from going out to eat or partying or anything they constantly remind them. If they were eating or watching a movie or even just relaxing after school they'd 'remind them'. it sounded more like nagging and they told them to keep it a secret from me.
Yes, I was angry and yes I confronted them. There is no reason for you to tell them to keep a secret for me and I found it it was so they could say, 'look, they listen to me.' Then I took the girls out for the park, I was so mad I needed to just get out and I didn't want to have them be upset.
Next day while they were at school and I was a work I vented to my coworker, not the same one who became like an aunt, about it and she pointed out why was I still doing all the work. I agreed, but I told her taking on these kids? I signed up for it. I'm not going to be that jerk who kicks them out at eighteen. So I got home and cleaned, all overhauled our room, the kitchen, and livingroom, dinning room.
they said nothing.
I told them never to tell the kids to keep secrets from me. They have something to say to me, I'm right there. They whined and complain they can never use the kitchen. When it's spotless, like not even a cup in the sink, they never use it. When my refund, yes, I took the kids out to eat a lot that week, and none of the kitchens was used except for my roommate who washes all her stuff. My sister tried to say it was because of work and working 10 hours on her feet isn't easy. And it isn't. We used to work the same job, and I'm still 10 to 14 hours on my feet. I told her I still come home, rest for 20 to 40 minutes, get up and make the kids food, they help me prep it, cook it and then eat. I still gather the daily laundry up and wash and dry it. homework still needs to be done, asking how their day was and if they had a good day or a bad day and spending time with them while I still have to clean up and make sure their prepared for the next day and the kitchen was open for nearly 20 hours and they didn't use it.
one of the things that makes me so angry is the complaining about the kitchen and then each day they eat out three times a day, all week, but has they never to tell me that they can't eat because I always have the kitchen. they have a fridge in their room, and when they ask me to give her pet their meds, its nothing but take-out everywhere.
I asked her one, maybe twice a month if she came to bring home food for the kids. When I'm so worn out and burnt out I just sleep all weekend and still feel like crap. I guess she counts it as taking care of the kids who say she gave them the food and then left to her room to be with her bf.
Last night, my roommate got the parking spot, her car has been registered there but she shares. 4 times out of the week they snag it, but lately, there's been so many cars parking here, I'm sure that it's because so many families are moving in with each other. One of the kids friends invited them to a three-day mini staycation. Co-worker Aunt took us to get the stuff they needed and to drop them off. As a thank you for taking us that far I offered to make her dinner, something simple, I had homemade cheddar broccoli soup and I had potatoes and hotdogs I could fry up. Sister and bf never get home before midnight. So, I call and ask what time they'd be home since only the parking spot was opening was assigned on. so we parked there and she planned on leaving before midnight. I called and my sister answered and told her I'd be making food for co-worker.
I asked again what time they'd be home and they said, to my surprise, 8pm. they're never home that early. So in front of co-work on the phone I said if they wanted us to see if there was parking open and we could go , the car. She said no and that they found a spot. They were mad about it, but are fine when us, the other two, have to look and look for one and me and roommate always end up walking along to the other side of the complex in the dark. they at least have each other.
She claims that they have to fight off people for parking and sleep in the car because they can't be away from each other and I was frying up the potatoes and hotgogs, my kid that didn't go was in our room and I had gotten her some headphones, she might have autism, we're waiting for the doctor to set up to get her checked and they help her a lot.
As I was cooking, they stood there. Like, both stood there watching me. Just staring. And I tried to make conversation, I know she loved this dish and they just blankly stared at me frowning. No saying a word so Ignored them. and finally, she tells him to go to the room, she'd be there later and he goes and she tell me this.
"It's a fight every night, and you don't understand." except I do, and then this line "He's close to blowing up and if he leaves me I'm gonna leave too even if I have to live on my own."
All of this was whispered and it hit me that she's rather leave me floundering and with all her empty constant promises to help me with anything and she said she'd leave. if they happen we'd be forced to move. Our lease is up in two months, I have no savings and have to find another job asap My Coworker's was listening the best she could but I just looked at my sister. I couldn't say anything because what I heard is she was willing to leave us for a guy and even if the guy left her she was gonna leave anyways and live on her own. All of the last two years of promising the kids to help and to be there, which she never is, and all this stuff about him being a great guy and she says he's gonna explode and she can't stop it.
Then she brought up the tax claiming again and I told her she has to do the work or it's not gonna happen and if she leaves, then leave because the kids come first. I love her so much but the kids are my top priority in every sense of the word. I never want to tell them to get jobs as soon as they turn 16 to help out with bills. I want them to finish school, get teen job, go buy clothes and go to movies, to go have some fun, to save up if they want to go to college or even if they want a car. I don't want to use them for bills, they didn't ask to be here and don't deserve to be used for money and she admitted she wanted to use what money she would have gotten for her wedding.
I told her that money was and is for the kids, food, clothes, bedding, etc. She tried to toss it in my face I took them out to eat a lot that week. They only get to eat out once a week and sometimes not even that. I then said sometimes like "if you have this high-paying job, both of you work buy them something." I meant like socks and so on, and she tossed it in my face that takeout is expensive and they end up spending about 20 bucks to each out a day and I told her that they both have a paycheck, and they said like 10 to 15 bucks for their own food each. I pay anything x3 and if I had left overs I can get away with telling the kids I'm caving the leftovers more than a treat. I can leave without that but I think 4 times a month isn't bad for take out and I don't think she should throw it in my face that they spend, according to her, 60 to 100 bucks on take-out a day and complain about not using the kitchen they don't buy or use groceries and take that they want when I'm not here or passed out on my bed from long shifts.
Sometimes I feel like an idiot. I feel like I'm failing all over the place, but they mention they create has me on edge all the time. And even when I try to connect to them or fight for an hour to spend with her and its hard because their always looking for each other. She's gone out to walk their dog or he will and in seconds or minutes their rushing after each other.
I don't know what to do. If they leave my coworker says she'll move in and cover 1/3 the rent, we can always get more couches at a thrift shop or ask anyone if they're getting rid of one. I've been trying to get a hold of a renter house that has 2 bedrooms 2 baths and trying to see if the price is right, 1200. She been telling me its my fault and telling me when she tries to spend time with the kids they never want to go and the rare times they spent time with her they tell me that all her and her bf do is walk ahead of them, do what they want, or even watch a move their acting like young teenagers on a first date, and ignore them the whole time. the older one said they got her lunch and then she had to run after them in the mall because they walked off without her.
they do stuff like this too. it took a year to scrimp and save for the Renfair and when we went the plan was to stay together. they took off and even with phone calls and stuff they kept leaving the group and claimed that we took off. One time us waiting for 30 minutes for them to come out of a shop only to find out they came out and walked off after us saying we'd wait for them and them agreeing.
I'm rambling.
I'm sorry.
I just don't know what to do. I'm stressed and tired and confused. If anyone can make sense of my ramble please offer any advice. I don't have people I can call, no one older, I mean I know I'm in my mid 30s, but I'm still confused. I feel like a failed adult who's pretending to be an adult. Please any advice, I'm lost
