Welcome to Book II, Chapter IV ("A Journey in the Dark") of The Fellowship of the Ring, being chapter 16 of The Lord of the Rings as we continue our journey through the week of Apr. 2-Apr. 8 here in 2023.
Gandalf told the fellowship that the only way under the mountains was through the Mines of Moria, underground tunnels in which a group of Dwarves led by Balin had disappeared years ago.
When they reached the gates of Moria, the gate-stream had been dammed and the entrance was flooded. Gandalf let the pony free and sent it back to Rivendell. Finding the runes on the gate, the Fellowship pondered a riddle: the quote, "Speak 'friend', and enter." Merry alone of the fellowship was on the right track, and he helped Gandalf find the answer. Gandalf used the secret password, "mellon", to gain them entrance. Before they could go in, though, they were attacked by a tentacled water creature, the Watcher in the Water, that particularly targeted Frodo. To escape, they all went into the Mines, but the Watcher destroyed the entrance behind them. They had no choice but to go forward through the Mines.
Fissures and chasms made their path treacherous. Samwise was reminded that he should have carried rope with him. At one point, they entered a stone doorway and found a deep well inside it. Pippin threw a stone into it out of impulse, and they began to hear a tapping, as if someone was using a hammer. They walked on for as long as they could, coming to many paths and crossroads, resting little and eating less. The Mines of Moria were famous for silver mithril and it was in search of this that Balin and his Dwarves had come to Moria. Gandalf told them that Bilbo had a coat of mail armour made of mithril and Frodo marvelled when he realised that Bilbo had gifted him with a suit of armour with a value worth the whole of the Shire.
When they continued on their journey the next day, they came upon a tomb and Gandalf read what was written on it. They realise that the tomb belonged to Balin son of Fundin. Frodo was sorry when he realised that Bilbo's good friend and companion was dead. [1]

Since I’ve played the first 4 gens quite a lot, I’ve picked up a fair few neat little facts over the years, some are actually useful and I thought I would share them, I’ll be going through each gen for this.
Red/blue/yellow/green
It’s possible to evolve a stone based Pokémon with a glitch by swapping to a Pokémon that has a specific pokedex number after levelling up, for Staryu for example, I believe the Pokémon you need to swap to is onix.
Gold/SilveCrystal
Due to how shiny Pokémon are determined by stats in these games, you can breed shines at odds between 1/64-1/256 depending on gender ratios of the Pokémon, it’s actually impossible to have 1/8192 odds by breeding in these games, as it’s either those or 0.
In the location that you get eevee in gen one, the staircase that’s on the top floor has a interact-able wall to the right of the staircase that you can click to have your character do something slightly dubious.
You can reset your time and date by using a special code that’s determined by your in game money and trainer Id, calculators exist online for this.
Ruby/sapphire/emerald
This one’s a little bit cheeky, but in theory it is possible using some technical knowhow to trade between gen 2 and 3. I believe it requires special tools and it’s dubious at best, but that proves it in theory was possible back then if they wanted to work on it.
as most people know you can use cut to remove wild encounter grass, but you can remove more per cut if the Pokemon has hyper cutter.
Firered/leaf green
The trainer tower in the sevi islands is incomplete in western copies. In Japan you have the ability to change trainers that show up with an e-card reader.
The legendary beasts appearing in these games due to a programming error will always have awful IV’s.
For all gen 3 games a mew or deoxy’s that’s cheated in and illegitimate will never obey under any circumstances.
Diamond/peaplatinum
The bicycle stands near Pokémon centres can be used to get on and off your bike instead of the normal method.
Slot machines in games that don’t allow you to gamble can provide free coins when interacted with.
Heart gold/soul silver
There’s a npc in violet that will provide an egg randomly between mareep, wooper and slugma. It requires a special code you can generate online using your trainer id and game language.

Just wanted to say, it sucks people lost their money today, but please remember support is being fucked equally as hard. They’re being put on the front lines for an issue they had no idea was coming and probably have little to no idea of what to do. All of this while the actual people responsible for this pass the buck to underpaid workers where the average person has English as a second language and are treated pretty badly. Just remember who actually is making the decisions and who is just being placed as a wall to deflect the back lash of said decisions. Just try and be kind to the people on the other end of your phone when you’re calling about your missing money.

The book: - fiction - Plot: a man moves into a house with his new girlfriend and his youngish son, then one night wakes up to banging on the bedroom door, goes to open it and gets flung back unconscious while the girlfriend gets torn to shreds by something, then I believe there's a demon egg in the walls controlling the sons dreams as all the attacks happen when he is asleep. - Father and youngish son (preteen) - Horror - I read a softcover, but it was a thick boy - Set somewhat modern times - nothing really stood out as ye olde past or futuristic - It was in English
The me: - Read sometime between 2000 and 2007 - My age was about 11-18 and I’m not sure it was age appropriate, I left the YA section for the first time haha - Borrowed from the local library - It wasn’t new looking - it was in the adult/horror section

Bromos...I don't even know what to do anymore.
The situation: both husband and I work, we live in a foreign country and both our families are a 20 hour flight away. Our daughter started at a school that's an hour's commute away, which makes our collective commutes to drop her off 1.5 each way for me, nearly 2 for him. (He doesn't mind the commute but I do.) For life/work I have to learn Japanese which is notoriously hard for native English speakers (especially starting in your 30s, with kids taking up all my energy already). My husband is an absolutely brilliant guy - does at least 60-70% of the childcare, all the laundry and 75% of cooking/dishwashing. He's not so fond of cleaning and can be messy/untidy but I've mostly accepted this as his one shortcoming since he is truly pulling his weight and then some.
Despite all this, I'm at the end of my rope. Outside of ourselves we have no one else to help with the long commutes, with organizing the house/our lives, to give us a longer break (we can get a sitter but then we have to leave the house and I just want one day to lounge at home). We've only taken 2 holidays on our own the last 6 years and those were for maybe 24-36 hours, when we were visiting our respective parents. We do have a weekly cleaner and monthly sitter so it's not 24/7....but it's pretty damn close. The end of the day, after bedtime/chores/studying it's 10pm and I wind up with massive bedtime procrastination because I feel so out of control with my own life.
I feel like nothing helps anymore. I've tried therapy, nights out with friends, days off where husband takes the kids (after which I feel guilty because he doesn't get as much time off as I do), selfcare in the form of exercise/snacks/video games, nothing sticks long enough, I've found no long term solution to this neverending despair. All the therapists I've seen have been racist, not understanding of cultural differences, or told me to spank my kids, or multiple of the above. I've gained weight, lost hair, and overall just feel like the world's shittiest mom. I yell at them less these days but when I do yell I sometimes get explosive for no reason. It's not fair that they have such an unhappy mom. I just feel so trapped and every solution costs a lot of money (full-time nanny, moving to one of our home countries, getting a car). I just know we weren't meant to live like this, in tiny nuclear families with no one around to lean on. We have friends but they all live 45 mins away (city life...). I want the impossible - a teleport to school, family in our neighborhood (our parents are too old to travel here), or a commune.
My kids are delightful but they are still hard work, emotionally needy, and very high energy. Everyone else in the subway is so well behaved but mine are always bouncing off the walls and I feel judged if they're loud, and I feel judged if I'm fed up and browsing my phone instead. One time I was reading on my phone and occasionally answering my daughter's questions. A random lady told me (in English) that I was a good mom and after I got off the subway I sobbed because it was the first nice thing I'd heard from a stranger in a long long time (people are not forthcoming with friendliness here and obviously the language barrier doesn't help).
I know I have so many blessings - a wonderful husband, (finally) a job with great WLB, a house with a low interest rate, two healthy kids, two solid incomes, and a safe environment for them to grow up in. Yet I still feel exhausted all the time, and I don't know how to kick myself out of this funk that started when my first was born and hasn't let up.
I don't know what I'm looking for here, maybe I needed to vent, maybe I need a hug. I just need to know there's a light at the end of the tunnel because all I can see is the same nothingness for miles. Please, send me your tips for what I can do to bring small joys back into my life.

I had to have yet another ear surgery. This time to remove one of the tiny bones, the stapes, that had become hardened and useless. I’ve always had ear troubles, from getting tubes to having a perforated ear drum. The latter disqualified me from getting into Army Airborne.
The nurse I had, Cindy, was incredibly nice, but irritating. She was attentive to every little detail, honestly concerned for my well-being, but a bit intrusive, almost obsessive. I was well experienced with hospital routines and procedures. I knew how often nurses were supposed to check your vitals. She was in and out of my room every five minutes. The strangest thing though was that every single time she came in the room she reintroduced herself as Cindy, my personal nurse. I wondered if there was some kind of commission or a bonus for a job well done. Was I required to answer a few short survey questions after my surgery?
Cindy, my personal nurse, along with some other nurses wheeled me down to another room to get prepared for surgery. The anesthesiologist had told me that we were going to count down from ten when we we’re ready. The IV was in place.
“You ready?” he asked.
The doctor put the mask over my face. I felt the cool gas flow into my nostrils. “Ten, nine, eight…….”
I started to wake up, still incoherent, in between conscious states, a purgatory of mental activity. I didn’t know exactly where I was, but then I felt a horrendous pain in my chest, which sobered my brain into focusing on my surroundings.
It wasn’t your typical operating room with sanitary white walls. They were hung with purple and scarlet drapes, embroidered with what looked like royal regalia, but nothing I recognized. It reminded me of the Roman Empire, but instead of an eagle, it had a majestic centipede like creature I had never seen nor heard of, and a ring of vegetation just as foreign. The only thing I recognized was the four thunderbolts projecting from the circle encompassing the alien symbolism. There were doctors and nurses, but also a few hooded figures dressed in priestly vestments.
I was laying on my back. I remember thinking that I shouldn’t be on my back if they are operating on my ear. I don’t know how I missed it before, but the ceiling was hung with mirrored tiles. The ceiling hung lower than normal giving me a direct view of what was happening. My chest was cut open, rib cage spread apart, exposing my beating heart. Several machines were nearby keeping me artificially alive. I screamed as loud as I could, yelling for help. I saw my heart beating faster and I could feel the blood flow with an unusual intensity.
“That’s it son. Get that heart rate up, but not too much. We don’t need you dying.” The doctor said peering down at me with his purple-speckled eyes.
The sight of his eyes evoked in me a fit of anxiety and a string of obscenities. I tried to pull my arms and legs free but they were strapped tight to the bed.
“You motherfuckers!!!”
“Good son. Good. Anger, fear, and hate. We need it all. Keep it going.”
I started weeping and pleading, but to no avail. The hooded figures started chanting. I could smell incense as they were swinging gold cannisters affixed to long chains, the smoke rising in thick plumes. They started circling my bed in some stoic ritualistic motion, never turning their heads or deviating from the script. After circling my bed a few times, they stopped in place. The one standing above my head walked over to a silver chest that was situated on top of an altar, with two candles on each side, burning not like a normal candle, but fading from purple to black and back to purple. I couldn’t watch what he was doing directly. I had to look up at the mirror to ascertain what horrors next awaited me.
The priest opened the chest and pulled out a clear crystal jar with an opulent black stopper. In the jar, swimming in a pinkish fluid, was the creature I had seen on the insignia. He walked over back to where I was, held the jar high, said some words I didn’t understand, and pulled the stopper out. He turned the jar over and emptied the contents of it on my chest. I convulsed and shook, trying my best to get free, not even thinking of the fact that my chest was splayed wide open. I looked up in the mirror. The creature squirmed around for a few seconds and then secured its many legs to my heart. It lifted its head. I looked from the mirror down to the creature. On the bottom side of his head was a circular row of teeth like a lamprey. It quickly snapped down its head and fastened its teeth into my heart, not to destroy it, but to settle in for the long haul.
“You’re going to live forever. It’s a gift. You’ll never have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, cancer. You name it, you’re free from it. Well, you’re almost immortal. I mean of course you’re not going to survive a bomb or having your head cut off, but hell, are you going to go play with some bombs or tempt someone to blow your head off?” The doctor chuckled. “But you’re no longer alone either. You have to share your body now, but you’re sharing it with a god.”
“Let me go. This is a parasite, not a god. Get this thing out of me. I don’t want to live forever, not like this.”
“Just words my boy. Its all in how you define ‘parasite’ or ‘god’ for that matter. Power is god son and if that power comes from a parasite, then praise the parasite. This parasite doesn’t come from Earth, but it’s been here a lot longer than we have. It is a sentient being. You’ll find that out in time. There’s an Armageddon coming, and you are on the right side. Be content with that. Doctor lets finish this. Put him down.”
The mask was pushed down on my face. I heard the anesthesiologist counting down, “ten, nine, eight….”
I woke up in my hospital room. I had a headache, and I was sick to my stomach. This had happened to me before. The doctor had given me too much anesthesia and it had kicked my ass. I reached up to feel my forehead. I felt a bandage across my head and down over my ear. I was relieved. It must have been a horrible nightmare produced by the medication. I struggled out of bed and walked to the bathroom. I looked into the mirror to see the bandage across my head and ear. I needed to see it, not just feel it, but then I thought about my chest. I lifted up my gown. I was shocked and deflated. There was a long grotesque line of staples down the middle of my chest, each painted with yellow antiseptic. I panicked and began to swoon, trying to turn back toward my bed. As I began to fall, Cindy caught me and helped me back to bed. She pulled the cover up over my body. She backed away from the bed and began to unbutton her uniform. There in the middle of her chest was a long scar.
“My lord,” she said as she knelt down in front of the bed.
It’s been two years now. I haven’t heard or seen anyone else who might also be affected or possessed, or at least that I know of. They are waiting for the right time, I imagine. Armageddon. That’s what the doctor said. Am I the Antichrist or just an alien invader. I’ve often thought about ending it, killing myself. I don’t want to be responsible for any kind of genocide, but then I convince myself that none of it was real. Then again, I feel great. I feel a power growing in me, a power that I don’t want to end. Whatever I am or whatever is in me doesn’t seem all that evil… at least not yet.

I have a friend is who is a literal face value player when it comes to rules. And I’ve given him both rule 115.10a, and 702.18a, but they’re not good enough. He thinks that anything with shroud is protected from everything. So for instance he played wrath of god, and he had wall of denial, however he thinks that wrath of god is targeting the wall regardless of whether it specifies the word target, and thus his wall is safe. Is there a rule that specifically counters this. He only goes off of official rules on the official site. Wont even take an official rule makers words let alone Reddit’s words. But my brother and I are 100% certain he’s playing shroud wrong. Or is he right and there’s a rule that does protect the wall? Is so what is the rule?
I would look myself, but it’s almost midnight where I live and honestly reading through the rules is just minding numbing after a handful of rules. But I will continue to look myself, I just know some of y’all have the rules memorized at this point because of lazy shits like me.
Edit: is there anything that applies to universal effects being countered by shroud or not? Rules wise

So, I wonder if I'm the only one, but has anyone used specific Jinx scenes to explain psychosis, especially stress and trauma-related psychosis to others?
I'm not saying Jinx is specifically diagnosed with psychosis. It could be any number of things. But it's obvious she has psychotic episodes. Mainly auditory and visual.
And I grew up having that, too. And it's so hard to explain to others exactly what it's like to deal with -- until Arcane. I'm now able to find scenes and show them and be like "This is what it's like for me" especially when I'm talking to (way too many people, by the way) who seem to either not believe in mental illness or think my psychosis can be cured by like, nature and supplements and idk those jade vagina egg things Gywneth Paltrow sells. Or like, 'big pharma is just selling you a lie so you become a silent sheep' or something when I mention that no, I cannot go off my medication, thank you very much, I do not want to start hearing snakes in the walls again and seeing that scary man who always lingers in the corner of whatever room I'm in and I'd rather avoid hearing voices of people who I may or may not know saying terrible things to me.
Y'know what I mean?
Especially with certain drugs with potential hallucigenic side effects being so popular. I have to explain over and over to people who tell me to chill out and smoke some weed (my entire family, btw) that having thc in my system is fucking horrifying.
And now I've found this way to communicate how it feels for me to these people. Hell, I recently got a therapist (therapy is a wonderful thing my gods) and we've been using Arcane to discuss stuff like my C-PTSD, abandonment issues and fears, the pressure I feel in my family as the black sheep/scapegoat in an abusive dynamic, and of course, my psychosis.
And I dunno. I think the point of this post is it's my little love letter to Arcane and to Jinx and how they so masterfully embodied what I deal with on a regular basis. I've spent a lot of my life not being understood or being even demonized for my psychosis. People acting terribly because they don't understand why I suddenly have to cover my ears or am staring off into a corner seeing something they don't. When memories of my sadly abusive upbringing start playing in my head and I go on autopilot like Jinx with pow-pow in ep 4 on the ship.
I know she's an antagonist and probably considered a villain (tho I'm not sure I'd use the term 'evil') so maybe it's still not great I identify with her but I'm just glad that I have this outlet for once that's part of popular media to say 'hey, you know how you told me "just ignore those things you see" well, it's not that fucking simple, here's what it's like'.
So, yeah. I'm not sure if this was a weird or too personal thing to post. But that's my little love letter to Arcane.

It would probably be pretty cool, even if things like the Darkness had to be lost because of timeline issues, or they could set it in a “Dark future” where darkness powers were discovered early and the Witness returned sooner. Exotics and guns from D2 could be brought over by the Exo Stranger ( I know she has a name but The stranger sounds cooler). My fiancé and I aren’t hiring a DJ; we’re going to make our own playlist. So, dancing may not be the main event at our reception. I wanted to have a giant chess set because my fiancé loves chess, but the sets that actually look like chess costs at least $500, so that’s out of the budget. About 6 weeks ago I (43f) noticed that my skin was looking slightly inflamed and pink and the area around my eyes was pink, inflamed, dry and painful.
I was devastated as I had worked very hard (starting during COVID shut downs with a bare face) to cultivate a routine that worked for me and cleared up my acne prone dry skin. As of a year ago, I was finally able to go bare faced if I wanted after a lifetime of poor skin. I have kept to the same routine and products for years now with no issues.
This new issue was new though - nothing like what I delt with before. I started to get to work. I carefully tested my daily routine, did nothing but the basics, replaced all my skincare and makeup with new versions and bought new brushes. I researched to make sure the ingredients didn't change in my lineup.
I did not however, get a new blender because I had JUST got a new set.
After trial and error and dealing with watery eyes and gross dry scales for weeks, I finally had clear skin for over a week and put makeup on today.
My eyes are super swollen pink and flakey again, within 30 minutes of getting ready today.
Infuriating.
Well I just spent hours thinking about it and it suddenly clicked that my new blenders were a different brand then I normally use. I normally use the ELF ones but my last ones I bought were Real Techniques. Looking at my Amazon... I bought them a few days before this all started.

My house is really big, but it also has a lot of wasted space behind the walls because of the sloped roof. My girlfriend is in a wheelchair and needs all the space she can get to move around, so I need to make use of the space behind my walls in my bathroom and my master bedroom closet for storage so that she can get to it better in her chair and it doesn't take up space in the room.
In my bathroom I have enough space for a 4 ft wide 1.5 ft deep shelf at 6 ft height and about 4 ft deep at about 4 ft height and below. I need to put shelves and drawers in there because it has no closet and there's no room for her to use the bathtub and toilet if I were to put any storage in there that isn't inside the wall.
In my master bedroom closet I have a very similar space behind the wall that is currently just used for storage but it is 17 ft wide and 6 and 1/2 ft deep at the bottom and it gets narrower at the top about the same 1.5 ft at 6 ft height.
What speed is some good quality shelving and doors that slide really smoothly and look nice to start with, and I really don't know where to look. I've had kraftmaid kitchen cabinets before, and I was really impressed with the smoothness of the drawers and would like something similar for these built-ins.
Can any of you recommend a source for such furniture? It doesn't have to be finished, but it would be nice if it was at least ready to be painted on the front.

Hi, looking to buy a crosstrek! I currently have a Chevrolet volt that I'm selling to buy a crosstrek. I go on a lot of car camping trips and backpack trips, and the volt isn't the best for outdoor hobbies IMO. I've been looking for about 2 weeks now and have been struggling to find a deal!
