2023.06.09 16:21 c0mesandg0es scrolling old.reddit and grabbing phone to open rif
hours later, opening web browser and seeing the old.reddit tab, closing tab to grab phone and open rif. I'm sure i'll still mindlessly do that for a while, even if not on the same sites.
rif, you've saved me from lectures, meetings, crises, boredom, fidgetting, picking, peeling, peeling beer bottle labels when I couldn't get away, waiting at the bus stop, arriving early at the movies, general community hobby learnings.... oh, and even landed me a job! Nope, not reddit, I was browsing rif at a bar years back and someone thought I was "checking reviews and responding to customer emails" at 1AM and that they were surprised because I was too young to bring work to a bar. We chatted and eventually I got to work for them doing assistant/admin stuff at their firm. No, I didn't tell them it was rif and yes, I was on rif while working there. bwahaha! Never knew how I could get out of retail/food as a working student but rif helped me there too. I hijacked my own post but where better a place to share this story.
Thank you for all that you've done rif and the rif people!

2023.06.09 16:13 Temorinkaari Another foldable bike thread [EU]
So i've been riding my Xiaomi 1S scooter for about a year now and i'm absolutely loving it, but my country decided on doing some brain-dead regulations starting next year that force me to either walk or get a bike. I've been looking around at what's available locally, and honestly, e-bike market is overwhelming, so i need some guidance. I've checked a lot of local shops for e-bikes and these are the main brands that i found, with pretty much all (or most) models available:
- Xiaomi HIMO (C20/Z20)
- Fiido (everything)
- ADO (everything, including the new A20 Air)
- ENGWE (i think everything)
- SAMEBIKE (a few)
- Bezior (a few)
- Beaster (a few)
- Myatu (a few)
There might be a few more that i missed, but that's what i found so far. I'm sure there are better brands outside of my country, but my rationale is "if anything breaks, i can get it fixed locally or use the warranty".
My biggest priority is that the bike has to be foldable. I live in a small apartment, so space is a real issue. On top of that, i'm a really small guy, so not much weight and muscle mass, so portability might be an issue if i would need to carry it in very rare cases, although i didn't have any issues with my scooter so far, and i usually leave it locked up outside if i'm in a store anyway.
The budget is another factor, the money is tight, even spending ~1000eur is though, but i could manage slightly more, but less is better, max i'd say would be around ~1200eur.
The terrain 99.9% of the time would be pavement, but i would like to have an option to ride it in some forests and/or gravel roads for a bit.
The current country regulations say that the motor can be up to 1000w, but since laws in EU mostly allow 250w, i'm guessing that my country will soon follow that as well.
Is there a specific bike/brand you would suggest from the list? Or maybe there are some uber good European brands as well? I'm starting to get lost in all the reviews, i honestly don't know much about e-bikes and what's good and what's not.

2023.06.09 16:10 SpiceCake68 An important note regarding Reddit in general and r/pocketplanes in particular; please read this
Stolen from
cars:
In the 1970s in the United States there grew an idea: Simply put, that people could help other people by building a decent place to live, at no profit for the builders. This idea grew from a charitable concept into a movement that would grow far past its original hopes and expectations. By the late 1970s this idea had expanded; today, Habitat for Humanity operates in every state in the USA but also in over a third of the countries in the world.
Habitat for Humanity volunteers do not work for wages. They volunteer their time to create something better than existed before; they often provide their own tools to make construction more efficient and safer for themselves and all around. The Habitat fund provides materials and the volunteers do the rest, creating and improving spaces for people to live in and enjoy. Without the volunteers, Habitat for Humanity could simply and fundamentally not exist. As such, the volunteers are treated with dignity and respect; they create wonderful things for strangers for no other reason than the love of so doing.
In the mid-2000s, Reddit was created. Reddit, Inc. has provided the framework and material for the site to survive, and a group of volunteer moderators has created tools and volunteered time to build spaces for people to occupy and enjoy. For the past 18 years this has been successful: Volunteers have created and curated spaces, and users have created content and everything that has filled those spaces.
On May 31 of this year, Reddit unilaterally announced that it was changing the pricing structure for all third-party applications using its servers and, in order for apps like Apollo, Bacon Reader, or RiF is Fun to continue to function, they would be required to pay Reddit, Inc. some tens of millions of dollars per year effective 30 days hence. The net effect of this is that Reddit plans on ending the ability for ALL third-party applications to function. This will mean destroying the ability of users to interact with the site on their favorite platforms. This will affect not only moderators but also every user who chooses to use a third-party application to view the site; THIS DIRECTLY AFFECTS YOU.
Habitat for Humanity could not function without its volunteers and the tools and skills they bring to the table; Reddit cannot function without its volunteer moderators and users and the tools and skills they bring to the platform.
Reddit is making these changes solely to serve you more advertisements, facilitate more spam, and track and sell your personal user data to other marketers and platforms. This has no benefit to the user, but we have seen this pattern before with other platforms. The animosity of Reddit towards third-party app developers, moderator staff, and users alike is telling and it does not bode well for the future of the platform. Reddit's actions are bad for everyone.
If Habitat for Humanity volunteers were treated thusly they would, sadly, pack their tools and move on and think at least of the good they have managed to do for people. As volunteers for Reddit, we are now preparing to pack our tools and move on. Reddit's clear avarice and contempt for the people who have spent millions of hours for free building and populating their communities is coming to a head.
The takeaway from this:
In protest, this will be closing all access as of June 12 and will be dark through June 14, perhaps longer. The mod staff is unwilling to continue to work with restricted functionality and in the face of such shocking disregard from Reddit, who has effectively been our pro bono client for the entirety of the site's existence. During this time you will not be able to read, comment, or participate in the subreddit at all. This is not something the mod staff does lightly: This is done after many hours of discussion recently, and multiple years of discussion more broadly. We do not want to have to this, and it is with great reticence that we take this action. We love what we have built: This is the Internet's largest automotive forum by several multiples. We love the discussion here, and we are all invested in not only the subreddit but also the content therein. We're all enthusiasts first and moderators second, and shuttering -- and preparing to abandon, if necessary -- the thing that we have built is painful.
However, this is where we are at this point of time. What can you do?

2023.06.09 16:04 7thAndGreenhill POLL - Do you support r/WilmingtonDE going dark beginning June 12 in protest against Reddit's API changes which will kill 3rd party apps?
Hello
WilmingtonDE Many have asked if
WilmingtonDE will take part in the Reddit blackout June 12 - 14. Since this sub acts as a virtual town square we''ll do this democratically via a vote. Below are notes that you may have seen in many other subs detailing why the blackout will happen.
As this starts on Monday, the voting will be open for 48 hours ending Sunday Morning approximately 10:05 AM ET.
What's going on?
A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app
permanently inaccessible to users.
On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from
Apollo to
Reddit is Fun to
Narwhal to
BaconReader.
Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface .
This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.
What's the plan?
On June 12th,
many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away
permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because
we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love.
The two-day blackout isn't the
goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action.

2023.06.09 16:00 7thAndGreenhill POLL - Do you support r/Delaware going dark beginning June 12 in protest against Reddit's API changes which will kill 3rd party apps?
Hello
Delaware Many have asked if
Delaware will take part in the Reddit blackout June 12 - 14. Since this sub acts as a virtual town square we''ll do this democratically via a vote. Below are notes that you may have seen in many other subs detailing why the blackout will happen.
As this starts on Monday, the voting will be open for 48 hours ending Sunday Morning approximately 10:00 AM ET.
What can you do?
- Complain. Message the mods of reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on reddit, such as this one, leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.
- Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join us at our sister sub at ModCoord - but please don't pester mods you don't know by simply spamming their modmail.
- Boycott and spread the word...to Reddit's competition! Stay off Reddit entirely on June 12th through the 13th- instead, take to your favorite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!
- Don't be a jerk. As upsetting this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible. This includes not harassing moderators of subreddits who have chosen not to take part: no one likes a missionary, a used-car salesman, or a flame warrior.

2023.06.09 15:47 Annana0001 Research before SaaS exit
If a SaaS founder wants to sell their company, doing research is crucial to ensure a successful sale. Here are some key areas of research for a SaaS founder looking to sell their SaaS company:
- Market Analysis: Understand the current market conditions, trends, and potential buyers. Research the demand for SaaS companies in your specific niche and identify potential acquirers who might be interested in your product.
- Comparable Sales: Investigate recent sales of similar SaaS companies to get a sense of valuation ranges and deal structures. Analyze their financials, customer base, and the multiples at which they were sold. This information will help you determine a reasonable asking price for your company.
- Financial Due Diligence: Conduct a comprehensive financial analysis of your company. This includes reviewing your revenue streams, growth rate, profitability, customer acquisition cost, churn rate, and other key financial metrics. Ensure that your financial records are accurate, audited (if applicable), and transparent.
- Intellectual Property Rights: Assess the ownership and protection of your company's intellectual property (IP). This includes patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and proprietary technology. Make sure all IP-related documentation is in order and up to date.
- Customer Analysis: Understand your customer base, including their demographics, usage patterns, and customer lifetime value. Analyze customer feedback, satisfaction levels, and retention rates. Potential buyers will be interested in the quality and stability of your customer base.
- Competitive Landscape: Evaluate your competitors and understand how your product differentiates itself in the market. Identify potential synergies and strategic advantages your company can offer to buyers.
- Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure your company is compliant with all applicable laws and regulations. Review contracts, licenses, agreements, and any legal obligations. Identify any potential liabilities or risks and address them appropriately.
- Operational Analysis: Assess your operational efficiency, scalability, and infrastructure. Evaluate the strength of your team, organizational structure, and any dependencies that may impact the company's saleability.
- Professional Assistance: Consider engaging professionals such as investment bankers, business brokers, or M&A advisors who specialize in selling SaaS companies. They can provide guidance, expertise, and support throughout the selling process.
- Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure: Protect sensitive information during the research phase by executing non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) with potential buyers or anyone involved in the sale process.
Selling a SaaS company can be complex and time-consuming. It's essential to have a well-prepared due diligence package with comprehensive information about your company to attract potential buyers and negotiate the best possible deal. Is there anything missing from the list? If you've sold your company before, share what research you did!

2023.06.09 15:47 WannaSeeTrustIssues R/Workout will be going dark to protest reddits changes to its API.
workout will be going dark June 12-14 to protest the recently announced changes to Reddit's API.
Working out and wanting to be a better, stronger and healthier version of yourself is not a political statement and never should be. In the same vein this subreddit is meant to be an inclusive place for everybody to come and share their experiences with the passion of working out. Reddit is about to make that more difficult. This community and reddit as a whole, has had to endure poor admin and site ownership decisions more than once, and will again be negatively affected by Reddit's recent announcement about changes to their API policy. I'm sure you've seen many other communities participating in the upcoming blackout, and we will as well...
A common explanation is included below.
What's going on?
A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.

2023.06.09 15:45 hkw4gw2 SOTD: Reviewing a Merkur Slant
| Pre-Shave: Hot shower Brush: Trigodon Lupus Calliditas Soap: Captain Nemo Retro Razor: Merkur 37C Slant Bar Blade: Gillette Wilkinson Sword (3) Pass 1: WTG Pass 2: XTG Pass 3: XTG and Touchups Aftershave: Alum block + Eveline Men X-Treme + Sukin Moisturizer for men Outcome: BBS in 3 passes It’s been a while since I’ve posted on here, so it’s good to be back. I’ve had some time to try out some new items, so I’ve tried to review them here. Do let me know what you guys think. The Shave: I was lucky enough to find a Merkur 37C on sale for a very good price on Amazon. (Hint: It was 33% cheaper than the Parker Semi Slant). This is my third shave with it, and it has taken a little bit of getting used to. The Merkur 37C is a well-constructed 2-piece razor, the first of its kind that I own. The build quality is as good as one would expect from a Merkur razor, although I do feel the finish on my Mühle R41 was perhaps slightly better. It’s also important to note that the handle on this is extremely short (80 mm, I think), but the razor is still quite heavy in the hand. All-in-all, a solid-looking, well-balanced razor. But how does it shave? The Trigodon Calliditas is a beautiful brush. The chrome handle is elegant and weighty in the hand. It would have been even better if the handle was a little thicker - the relatively thin handle is slippery if you get any soap on your hands. The bristles are quite firm, with a bit of backbone. I find that loading this brush takes a bit of patience. The Pink Woolf soap remains a decent pick - strong scent, average slickness, decent lathering. I had to work a little harder loading the Calliditas brush, but the resultant lather was quite acceptable. For this shave, I used my ongoing Gillette Wilkinson Sword blade on its third shave. My standard 3 passes routine applied - WTG, XTG and XTG again with touch-ups. My pre-shave was a hot shower, followed by exfoliating face wash. The first pass was not the smoothest, with quite a bit of tugging around the chin. Adjusting the angle of the razor seemed to help with that. Switching up my grip to ride the cap seemed to improve results. This razor handled the cheek and jaw areas quite well, leaving only a short stubble after the first pass. The second and third passes were when the razor really began to click. This design seems to handle the shorter stubble better, especially when shaving across the grain. One important thing I discovered was that I had to use even less pressure than usual - a bit of a curveball when you’ve been used to heavier razors, and often have the urge to push down a little harder to compensate. Once I got over this, and started letting the razor just glide from the point of contact, the shave started to go a lot smoother. It took 3 complete passes and a few touch-ups with leftover soap to get a BBS. I finished this up with the alum block treatment and the Eveline aftershave balm. The Aftermath: Treatment with the alum block left some parts of my neck burning a little bit, but it wasn’t too bad. The Eveline aftershave is one of the best I’ve used - very nice scent and great moisturizing, so it’s an amazing pick for the summer. I still applied some moisturizer, as my skin has a tendency to dry out in a few hours. This shave was broadly satisfactory, but I didn’t much enjoy needing more than three passes. Next time, I’ll try pairing the razor with a sharper blade than the Wilkinson Sword - maybe the 7’O Clock SP, Personna, Nacet or even a Feather. Once I figure the right combination for this it, I can see this razor being a nifty little daily driver, or a variety option when you need to mix things up. What has your experience with slant bars been? Cheers! submitted by hkw4gw2 to Wetshavers_India [link] [comments] |
