I'm one of two accountants at my employer, a regional politician who is somewhat known in our state. I work for her in her profitable business, but she intermingles much of her personal, political, and professional life.
She is a gregarious person and generally likeable, but has her share of shadiness.
I have been laid off before. I think its unlikely to happen at this employer anytime soon, but given our industry (party & event planning) and the economy, I'm somewhat paranoid.
List of shady things: A. All of our 500ish event staff (caterers, servers, site supervisors, etc) are treated as "independent contractors" to avoid paying for unemployment, payroll taxes, and benefits. We typically employ 30-60 "contractors" per week. She does this despite our state's unemployment office formally telling her to stop or else. B. She bought a $650k condo in the most iconic building in the city without telling her spouse. She formed a "My Condo LLC" and lists it as a "rental property company" that she rents to her main business so she can take the $650k plus all maintenance & HOA costs as deductions. C. She intertwines her personal, political, & business expenses. She once listed a $20k home refurbishment as a tax write-off; when the CPA said it had to be for a rental property and not his primary home, she called the vendor & asked them to send over a falsified receipt with a different address. This is not a one-off.
The IRS offers a 15% bounty on any tax fraud you identify and report to them that they missed & wouldn't have caught without your report. This can go higher if your report is particularly good. The payout can take multiple years though.
I have digital, online access from my personal PC to her main business's books & bank accountants & payroll, but most of the shadiness occurs in the faux shell LLCs that the other, more veteran accountant runs.
I have digital access to some of her shady LLC's Financials, but only sporadically. Not enough to file a claim.
I have print, non-digital access to all of her books (they're in the accounting office), but this would entail some risk to acquire, as I'd need to smuggle them home, take pics on my phone, or try to make copies from the company printers. I can't think of a good bullshit reason to make these copies.
Unethical Redditors, what shady ways can you come up with to pull all of this shady politician's financials without getting caught? The more I can grab the better for filing a claim.
Goal: I LOVE my job, but I acknowledge that while I have it good where I work, most of my colleagues are treated like a combination of irresponsible children and disposal, replaceable workers. I dont want to jeopardize my job, but I want to have the paperwork necessary to file tax fraud & labor violation claims if I lose it due to economic headwinds or being the only employee who isn't in the politician's political party.
Problems: the main shadiness has all of its records surprisingly well-kept, but only via the other accountant's computer (which is behind a password I dont know) and paper copies. The politician has working security cameras between the accounting office & main printer, and at all building entrances & exits, but not in the accounting office itself. The accounting office has a small personal printer maintained by the other accountant. The large business printer is watched.
Potential payout: I can expect around $100k-$200k just from the condo tax treatment; that payout would increase by $100-$200k per year that the IRS doesn't catch it. The employee misclassification may also apply - thats harder but would be $300-$600k based on whats occurred up to today and an additional $75k-$150k per year its uncaught not counting interest fines. This would decrease due to lawyers and take years to pay out. To me thats a lot of money.

I am 35 and have drank since I was 18 just about every day. I was doing a little better about a year and a half ago and I could get a day to three at most sober every now and then. Fast forward to today and I have had some things happen over the last 5-6 month I have not dealt with properly. I am consuming close to 1.00 L of vodka a day. My main concern is when I have had a day or three sober in the past I would have the worst nightmares and wake up sometimes with my whole body tingling and my heart racing. I am not sure if the nightmare just scared me that bad or if other things are happening while I sleep. Any advice on stopping would be greatly appreciated. I have developed bad psoriasis as of recent and have never had it in all my life. I want to change before I have completely destroyed my liver and life. Do I have hope?
