Caution: It's important to remember that these evaluations are guides to potential health concerns and not definitive measures of a product's safety or efficacy. They are based on individual ingredients rather than any negative effects the final product may have. The way ingredients interact in a formulation can influence their potential impact, and the presence of a specific ingredient does not automatically equate to harm when used in a product. It's always crucial to do your own research, consider the product as a whole, and keep in mind that personal reactions can vary greatly. When making decisions about personal care products, it is recommended to consult with healthcare professionals.

Brief: The formula is largely based on nonfat milk and lactose, which mimic the natural composition of breast milk. Vegetable oils provide essential fatty acids, while the included ARA and DHA promote brain and eye development. Prebiotics like galactooligosaccharides and fructooligosaccharides are beneficial for gut health. Nonetheless, parents should note that palm olein oil may interfere with calcium absorption. Also, soy allergies are common in infants, so caution is advised if your child has shown any soy-related symptoms. Always consult a pediatrician before introducing a new formula.

Ingredients: Nonfat Milk, Lactose, Vegetable Oils (Palm Olein, Soy, Coconut, High Oleic [Safflower or Sunflower] Oil), Whey Protein Concentrate, Galactooligosaccharides, Less Than 1%: Mortierella Alpina Oil, Crypthecodinium Cohnii Oil, Fructooligosaccharides, Soy Lecithin, Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin D3, Vitamin E Acetate, Vitamin K1, Thiamine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Vitamin B6 Hydrochloride, Vitamin B12, Niacinamide, Folic Acid, Calcium Carbonate, Calcium Chloride, Calcium Hydroxide, Magnesium Chloride, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate, Cupric Sulfate, Potassium Bicarbonate, Potassium Iodide, Potassium Hydroxide, Potassium Phosphate, Sodium Selenite, Sodium Citrate, Taurine, L-Carnitine, Beta-Carotene, Mixed Tocopherol Concentrate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Monoglycerides, Nucleotides (Adenosine-5'-Monophosphate, Cytidine-5'-Monophosphate, Disodium Guanosine-5'-Monophosphate, Disodium Uridine-5'-Monophosphate)

Typical ingredients description and side effects

  • Zinc Sulfate
    • Zinc sulfate is a mineral that is frequently used in dietary supplements and baby formulas. Zinc is an essential nutrient that supports various body functions, including immune function, protein synthesis, wound healing, DNA synthesis, and cell division. It's particularly important for babies as they grow and develop.
    • Potential Side Effects:
      • Gastrointestinal Issues: Excessive intake of zinc can cause gastrointestinal issues such as vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps.
      • Zinc Toxicity: While rare, severe overconsumption can lead to zinc toxicity, with symptoms including loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and headaches. Long-term excessive intake could potentially interfere with the body's absorption of other essential minerals like copper and iron.
    • EWG Skin Grade: 6

  • Manganese Sulfate
    • Manganese sulfate is a mineral that's often used in dietary supplements and food products, including baby formula. Manganese is an essential nutrient that supports many body functions, including bone development, metabolism, and brain function. As of my knowledge, manganese sulfate is generally considered safe in the quantities typically found in food and formula, but excessive intake can lead to adverse effects
    • Potential Side Effects:
      • Neurological Effects: High levels of manganese exposure have been associated with neurological issues, but this is generally associated with environmental exposure (like inhaling manganese dust), not dietary intake.
      • Interference with Iron Absorption: Manganese can interfere with the absorption of iron. This is generally not a problem with the levels of manganese found in baby formula, but it could potentially be an issue with very high levels of intake.
      • Digestive Issues: As with any mineral, consuming excessive amounts could potentially cause digestive issues like nausea or diarrhea.
    • EWG Skin Grade: 3

  • Ferrous Sulfate
    • Ferrous sulfate is a type of iron supplement that's often added to baby formulas. Iron is an essential nutrient that's necessary for the production of hemoglobin, a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body. It's also worth noting that some infants may have difficulty absorbing iron from supplements like ferrous sulfate, which can potentially lead to issues such as iron deficiency anemia. However, most infants can absorb and utilize the iron in baby formula without issue.
    • Potential Side Effects:
      • Gastrointestinal Issues: These can include nausea, constipation, diarrhea, or stomach upset.
      • Iron Toxicity: Though very rare and typically associated with accidental ingestion of iron supplements, iron toxicity can be serious, causing symptoms like dizziness, rapid heartbeat, rapid breathing, fever, and in severe cases, can lead to organ damage.
      • Interference with Nutrient Absorption: Excessive iron can interfere with the absorption of other nutrients, such as zinc.
    • EWG Skin Grade: 4

  • Sodium Selenite
    • Sodium selenite is a form of selenium, an essential mineral required for a variety of biological functions. It is sometimes used in infant formula to ensure that babies get an appropriate amount of this nutrient. Selenium plays several important roles in the body. It's a key component of various enzymes and proteins, many of which are involved in protecting cells from damage. It also supports a healthy immune system, aids in DNA production, and is involved in thyroid hormone metabolism. However, like all nutrients, selenium needs to be consumed in appropriate amounts. Both too much and too little selenium can be harmful.
    • Potential Side Effects:
      • Selenium Toxicity (Selenosis): Although it's rare, consuming too much selenium over time can lead to selenosis. Symptoms might include gastrointestinal upset, hair loss, white blotchy nails, garlic breath odor, fatigue, irritability, and mild nerve damage.
      • Interference with Other Nutrients: High levels of selenium can interfere with the absorption of other essential nutrients, like zinc.
    • EWG Skin Grade: 10

  • Vitamin A Acetate
    • Vitamin A Acetate, also known as retinyl acetate, is a form of vitamin A that's often added to food products, including infant formula, due to its essential role in supporting vision, the immune system, and overall growth and development. It's generally safe for use in such products, but as with any nutrient, too much can lead to adverse effects. It's important to note that these side effects are generally associated with excessive intake over a prolonged period, not normal dietary consumption.
    • Potential Side Effects:
      • Vitamin A Toxicity (Hypervitaminosis A): This can occur if an infant is given too much Vitamin A over a long period of time. Symptoms can include nausea, dizziness, blurred vision, and even hair loss in severe cases. However, it is extremely rare and typically associated with over-supplementation, not food sources.
      • Birth Defects: Consuming extremely high levels of Vitamin A during pregnancy can potentially lead to birth defects. However, this is not relevant to baby formula but rather a concern for pregnant women.
      • Interactions with other nutrients: High levels of Vitamin A can interfere with the absorption and utilization of other vitamins, such as Vitamin D and Vitamin K.
    • EWG Skin Grade: 9

  • Tocopheryl Acetate
    • Tocopheryl Acetate is a form of vitamin E that is often added to baby formula, skincare products, and various other products. Vitamin E is an essential nutrient known for its antioxidant properties. It plays a crucial role in protecting cells from damage, supporting immune function, and promoting healthy skin and eyes. In the context of baby formula, tocopheryl acetate is generally safe and unlikely to cause side effects when consumed at levels that are within the recommended dietary allowances for infants. However, like any nutrient, it could potentially cause side effects if consumed excessively.
    • Potential Side Effects:
      • Bleeding: Vitamin E has mild anticoagulant properties, meaning it can prevent blood clots. While this is typically a good thing, in large amounts, it could potentially increase the risk of bleeding.
      • Nausea, Diarrhea, Stomach Cramps: Some people may experience digestive upset from consuming too much vitamin E.
      • Rash: Some individuals may have a skin reaction to topical use of tocopheryl acetate, though this is less relevant for its presence in baby formula
    • EWG Skin Grade: 3

  • Potassium Hydroxide
    • Potassium Hydroxide is commonly used in the food industry as a pH regulator or a food stabilizer. It helps to maintain the acidity or alkalinity of food, which is important for flavor, preservation, and food safety. In baby formula, Potassium Hydroxide is used to adjust the pH to make it as close to human milk as possible, to ensure optimal digestion and nutrient absorption.
    • Potential Side Effects:
      • Irritation: Potassium hydroxide is known to be caustic, meaning it can cause irritation or burns if it comes into direct contact with the skin or eyes in its pure form. However, in food products like baby formula, it's used in very diluted quantities that are safe for consumption.
      • Digestive Issues: If consumed in large amounts, potassium hydroxide could potentially cause digestive issues such as nausea or vomiting. However, the small amounts used in food products are unlikely to cause such effects.
    • EWG Skin Grade: 5

  • Soy Lecithin
    • Soy lecithin is a common ingredient found in various food products, including baby formulas. It is derived from soybean oil and is used as an emulsifier, helping to blend and stabilize the ingredients in the formula. Soy lecithin is generally considered safe for consumption, but like any food ingredient, it can have potential side effects or considerations.
    • Potential Side Effects:
      • Allergies or Sensitivities: Soy is one of the top food allergens, and some individuals may have allergies or sensitivities to soy products, including soy lecithin. Allergic reactions can vary in severity and may include symptoms such as hives, swelling, difficulty breathing, or digestive issues. If your baby has a known soy allergy or shows signs of an allergic reaction after consuming a baby formula containing soy lecithin, it is important to discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional.
      • Digestive Sensitivities: Some individuals, including babies, may have digestive sensitivities to soy-based products. This can manifest as symptoms like gas, bloating, colic, or diarrhea. If your baby experiences any of these symptoms after consuming a baby formula containing soy lecithin, you may consider discussing alternative formulas with your pediatrician.
    • EWG Skin Grade: 4

The grading system used by EWG in the Skin Deep database is as follows:
1 to 2: Low hazard
3 to 6: Moderate hazard
7 to 10: High hazard

2023.06.09 11:28 hali47 Low protein diet. Advice needed

Hello all. I wanted some advice on my current situation considering my history and previous accomplishments.
About a year ago, I decided to lose fat and I was very successful at it. I was living in the States at that time and I had a high protein diet (1g per lb of body weight or more) everyday. I stayed in a calories deficit most days and I went from 194lbs to 163lbs in a course of approximately 8 months. I was very pleased with the results.
Now to the current situation. I'm not in the States anymore and so I don't have access to a lot of the high protein snacks that I had. The cherry on top is that I earn substantially low now. I can't afford any whey protein to supplement my meals. I can't afford to have chicken based meals for more than 2-3 times a week. I mean if I want to meet even 0.6g of protein per lb of body weight, it'll cost a lot to buy that much chicken for daily consumption. I have a family to support as well.
I do go to the gym regularly but it's not focused on hypertrophy. I'm trying to hit major muscles (chest, back, legs and shoulders) and end my workout with some conditioning/HIIT (Athlean X's weight loss workout routine modified to fit my preference)
My question is, what sgould I do about my protein intake? Or what should my goals be? I do have some flub around my ass, thighs and tummy that I can get rid of. I'm trying to focus on that by staying in a calorie deficit and eating as much protein as I can daily (about 40-50g tops). My current weight is 170lbs.
Thank you so much for reading through all this. I appreciate any advice you can give me.
TL,DR: I can afford to eat about 0.3g per lb of body weight. Current weight is 170lbs and I have some fat that I can lose. What kind of workout and nutrition plan should I follow for best results and what goals should I have?

A Short Guide to Buying Crockery

https://preview.redd.it/2zmtm6mhny4b1.jpg?width=900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=043da68d0af2e503be6ea2af8db6e63682a17025
When it comes to setting the right mood for dining, tableware and glassware play a significant role. Whether it's a casual lunch, a delightful breakfast, or a cherished tea time, having the right kitchen crockery sets can elevate your dining experience. Here are some stylish and functional options to consider:
Kitchen crockery sets come in a wide range of colors, from vibrant hues to understated whites. You can choose from various patterns such as florals, stripes, and polka dots, based on your preferences. The crockery is available in different materials, including:
  1. Porcelain: Ideal for formal settings, porcelain crockery is durable and non-porous. It has a delicate, glass-like appearance and is available in a variety of colors. Porcelain can be safely cleaned in a dishwasher and is microwave and oven-friendly, but be cautious with metallic accents that might not be microwave-safe.
  2. Bone China: Translucent and milky white, bone china crockery is lightweight and elegant. Although it requires careful handling, it is durable and chip-resistant. Bone china is microwave-friendly, dishwasher-safe, and suitable for oven use, making it a popular choice for formal occasions.
  3. Stoneware: Perfect for casual settings, stoneware crockery is sturdy and non-porous. Glazed stoneware sets with finishes like shiny, matte, or satin offer a smooth look and are easy to maintain. They are resistant to chipping and can be used in the microwave, freezer, and oven. Avoid subjecting stoneware to sudden temperature changes.
  4. Earthenware: With a rustic appeal, earthenware crockery suits simple settings. While it is fragile to handle, it has a sturdy build. It is porous and often glazed, but it cannot withstand high-temperature changes, so it is not oven or microwave-safe. Earthenware is well-suited for farmhouse-style homes.
  5. Ceramic Crockery: Ceramic crockery is biodegradable, recyclable, and environmentally friendly. It is both versatile and brittle, making it suitable for cooking dry and wet items, baking, and roasting. Ceramic crockery is easy to clean, non-stick, and prevents food from burning. It is a healthy, safe, and non-toxic option.
  6. Glass Crockery: Delicate and breakable, glass crockery comes in various colors and can be transparent. Due to its fragility, careful handling is required to avoid breakage.
  7. Metal Crockery: Steel or metal dinnerware is durable and break-resistant, making it an excellent choice for families with children. It is suitable for both formal and casual occasions. Metal crockery can be directly heated on a gas flame and is easy to clean.
  8. Melamine: Made from durable plastic resin, melamine crockery is non-breakable and easy to handle. It is a popular choice for households with children. Melamine crockery is dishwasher-safe but should not be used in microwaves or ovens. It is an affordable option for the middle class.
In terms of crockery set pieces, Indian thali lunch sets typically include a plate, a glass, a spoon, and three bowls. Tea sets usually consist of a teapot, sugar pot, milk pot, cups, saucers, and spoons. Western crockery sets vary for starters, main courses, and desserts, featuring soup bowls, different-sized plates, bowls for cereals or desserts, and hot chocolate mugs.
Consider including additional serving pieces such as casserole dishes, platters, trays, gravy boats, ladles, tureens, and salt and pepper shakers. Chinese crockery, including forks or chop.

2023.06.09 05:36 ElongatedMuskrat Starship Development Thread #46

SpaceX Starship page

FAQ

  1. When (first) orbital flight? First integrated flight test occurred April 20, 2023. "The vehicle cleared the pad and beach as Starship climbed to an apogee of ~39 km over the Gulf of Mexico – the highest of any Starship to-date. The vehicle experienced multiple engines out during the flight test, lost altitude, and began to tumble. The flight termination system was commanded on both the booster and ship."
  2. Where can I find streams of the launch? SpaceX Full Livestream. NASASpaceFlight Channel. Lab Padre Channel. Everyday Astronaut Channel.
  3. What's happening next? SpaceX has assessed damage to Stage 0 and is implementing fixes and changes including a water deluge/pad protection/"shower head" system. No major repairs to key structures appear to be necessary.
  4. When is the next flight test? Just after flight, Elon stated they "Learned a lot for next test launch in a few months." On April 29, he reiterated this estimate in a Twitter Spaces Q&A (summarized here), saying "I'm glad to report that the pad damage is actually quite small," should "be repaired quickly," and "From a pad standpoint, we are probably ready to launch in 6 to 8 weeks." Requalifying the flight termination system (FTS) and the FAA post-incident review will likely require the longest time to complete. Musk reiterated the timeline on May 26, stating "Major launchpad upgrades should be complete in about a month, then another month of rocket testing on pad, then flight 2 of Starship."
  5. Why no flame diverteflame trench below the OLM? Musk tweeted on April 21: "3 months ago, we started building a massive water-cooled, steel plate to go under the launch mount. Wasn’t ready in time & we wrongly thought, based on static fire data, that Fondag would make it through 1 launch." Regarding a trench, note that the Starship on the OLM sits 2.5x higher off the ground than the Saturn V sat above the base of its flame trench, and the OLM has 6 exits vs. 2 on the Saturn V trench.

Ship Location Status Comment
Pre-S24 Scrapped or Retired SN15 and S20 are in the Rocket Garden, the rest are scrapped.
S24 In pieces in the ocean Destroyed April 20th: Destroyed when booster MECO and ship stage separation from booster failed three minutes and 59 seconds after successful launch, so FTS was activated. This was the second launch attempt.
S25 Launch Site Testing On Feb 23rd moved back to build site, then on the 25th taken to the Massey's test site. March 21st: Cryo test. May 5th: Another cryo test. May 18th: Moved to the Launch Site and in the afternoon lifted onto Suborbital Test Stand B.
S26 Rocket Garden Resting No fins or heat shield, plus other changes. March 25th: Lifted onto the new higher stand in Rocket Garden. March 28th: First RVac installed (number 205). March 29th: RVac number 212 taken over to S26 and later in the day the third RVac (number 202) was taken over to S26 for installation. March 31st: First Raptor Center installed (note that S26 is the first Ship with electric Thrust Vector Control). April 1st: Two more Raptor Centers moved over to S26.
S27 Rocket Garden Completed but no Raptors yet Like S26, no fins or heat shield. April 24th: Moved to the Rocket Garden.
S28 High Bay 1 Under construction February 7th Assorted parts spotted. March 24th: Mid LOX barrel taken into High Bay 1. March 28th: Existing stack placed onto Mid LOX barrel. March 31st: Almost completed stack lifted off turntable. April 5th: Aft/Thrust section taken into High Bay 1. April 6th: the already stacked main body of the ship has been placed onto the thrust section, giving a fully stacked ship. April 25th: Lifted off the welding turntable, then the 'squid' detached - it was then connected up to a new type of lifting attachment which connects to the two lifting points below the forward flaps that are used by the chopsticks. May 25th: Installation of the first Aft Flap (interesting note: the Aft Flaps for S28 are from the scrapped S22).
S29 High Bay 1 Under construction April 28th: Nosecone and Payload Bay taken inside High Bay 1 (interesting note: the Forward Flaps are from the scrapped S22). May 1st: nosecone stacked onto payload bay (note that S29 is being stacked on the new welding turntable to the left of center inside High Bay 1, this means that LabPadre's Sentinel Cam can't see it and so NSF's cam looking at the build site is the only one with a view when it's on the turntable). May 4th: Sleeved Forward Dome moved into High Bay 1 and placed on the welding turntable. May 5th: Nosecone+Payload Bay stack placed onto Sleeved Forward Dome and welded. May 10th: Nosecone stack hooked up to new lifting rig instead of the 'Squid' (the new rig attaches to the Chopstick's lifting points and the leeward Squid hooks). May 11th: Sleeved Common Dome moved into High Bay 1. May 16th: Nosecone stack placed onto Sleeved Common Dome and welded. May 18th: Mid LOX section moved inside High Bay 1. May 19th: Current stack placed onto Mid LOX section for welding. June 2nd: Aft/Thrust section moved into High Bay 1. June 6th: The already stacked main body of the ship has been placed onto the thrust section, giving a fully stacked ship.
S30+ Build Site Parts under construction Assorted parts spotted through S34.

Booster Location Status Comment
Pre-B7 & B8 Scrapped or Retired B4 is in the Rocket Garden, the rest are scrapped.
B7 In pieces in the ocean Destroyed April 20th: Destroyed when MECO and stage separation of ship from booster failed three minutes and 59 seconds after successful launch, so FTS was activated. This was the second launch attempt.
B9 High Bay 2 Raptor Install Cryo testing (methane and oxygen) on Dec. 21 and Dec. 29. Rollback on Jan. 10. On March 7th Raptors started to be taken into High Bay 2 for B9.
B10 Rocket Garden Resting 20-ring LOX tank inside High Bay 2 and Methane tank (with grid fins installed) in the ring yard. March 18th: Methane tank moved from the ring yard and into High Bay 2 for final stacking onto the LOX tank. March 22nd: Methane tank stacked onto LOX tank, resulting in a fully stacked booster. May 27th: Moved to the Rocket Garden. Note: even though it appears to be complete it currently has no Raptors.
B11 High Bay 2 Under construction March 24th: 'A3' barrel had the current 8-ring LOX tank stacked onto it. March 30th: 'A4' 4-ring LOX tank barrel taken inside High Bay 2 and stacked. April 2nd: 'A5' 4-ring barrel taken inside High Bay 2. April 4th: First methane tank 3-ring barrel parked outside High Bay 2 - this is probably F2. April 7th: downcomer installed in LOX tank (which is almost fully stacked except for the thrust section). April 28th: Aft section finally taken inside High Bay 2 to have the rest of the LOX tank welded to it (which will complete the LOX tank stack). May 11th: Methane tank Forward section and the next barrel down taken into High Bay 2 and stacked. May 18th: Methane tank stacked onto another 3 ring next barrel, making it 9 rings tall out of 13. May 20th: Methane tank section stacked onto the final barrel, meaning that the Methane tank is now fully stacked. May 23rd: Started to install the grid fins. June 3rd: Methane Tank stacked onto LOX Tank, meaning that B11 is now fully stacked. Once welded still more work to be done such as the remaining plumbing and wiring.
B12 High Bay 2 (LOX Tank) Under construction June 3rd: LOX tank commences construction: Common Dome (CX:4) and a 4-ring barrel (A2:4) taken inside High Bay 2 where CX:4 was stacked onto A2:4 on the right side welding turntable. June 7th: A 4-ring barrel (A3:4) was taken inside High Bay 2. June 8th: Barrel section A3:4 was lifted onto the welding turntable and the existing stack placed on it for welding.
B13+ Build Site Parts under construction Assorted parts spotted through B17.

2023.06.09 04:27 Any_Albatross_1190 Surgery consult soon-other organ issues?

I just want to say first and foremost, thank you everyone for sharing and answering questions here, I’ve been lurking for a little over a month now and this has been a huge support. I have a few questions/advice requested, and I’ll give a little bit of my background so far to start.
Southern US based, leading up to the end of April I started having what I now realize is RUQ pain from gallstones, but I thought it was med adjustments from having just started Lexapro and Buspar. It just felt like nausea and really bad indigestion at first. I had my first gallbladder attack and ended up managing the pain with a hot bath, and not knowing what it was, I went to sleep when the pain stopped. Three days later I had my big episode, went to the hospital, and apparently I have numerous gallstones. They also showed inflammation in both RUQ and LUQ areas via ultrasound and confirmed that my gallbladder wall was thickened.
My surgery consult is finally coming up on Monday. I’ve survived the last 6 weeks on low fat bagels, rice, bananas, and soup essentially, and aside from swelling and tenderness and unforgiving nausea, I haven’t had an attack as bad as the one that sent me to the ER.
Do y’all mind giving more detail on the HIDA scan and other testing that was required? I haven’t had anything like this before and I’m a bit doctor shy to begin with.
Also, has anyone had damage to other organs because of the bile acid backflow? As time goes on I’m increasingly getting pain through my back and on both sides of my upper abdomen. It’s been worrisome but the pain hasn’t stopped me from working (wfh customer support so it’d take a lot for me honestly) but the fear of pancreatitis is there.
For actual surgery, if they can get it out through standard lapro, is there anything else that can necessitate more recovery downtime?
I’m a worrier by nature but it’s actually comforting for me to hear worse case scenarios. Any answers or advice, even if it’s not exactly what I’ve asked, are totally welcome. Thanks again for fostering a supportive community, I had probably 537 more questions that have been answered just by reading through past threads.
