2023.06.09 16:11 kirilale DataAnalyst.com - I launched a niche job board with hand curated data analyst jobs. Here's the summary of how it's going after the fifth month

Hi all,
on Dec 19th I launched DataAnalyst.com - this is the fifth (May) update of hopefully many more to come.
Want to make sure I document the journey, and keep myself honest, so each month I will be making a post about the statistics, progress, some thoughts and what are the next steps I want to be focusing on.
While the main purpose for the post is to bring everyone along on the journey, I do think that members of DataAnalysis might benefit from the site, especially those looking for a new data analyst job. I'd also love to engage with people on the sub who'd like to share their data analyst career journey.
If it's not something that belong here, have absolutely no issues to take the post down and / or keep the updates to a different subreddit.
So, just a reminder that early stages vision is to become the #1 job board for data analysts - hand-picking interesting data analyst job opportunities across industries.
Let's dive right in:

1. General Observations

Stats

DataAnalyst.com has been online for just over 5 months and we've brought over 1,250 hand curated data analyst jobs onto the site - all of them including a salary range.
There's now 1,200+ people subscribed to the newsletter, and I can't thank you enough for your support and for joining us on the journey.
While in April the site grew to just over 5,000 monthly visitors across 26,000 pageviews, in May we've been able to cross the 5,000 visitors yet again, with over 28,000 pageviews - not only that, we registered approximately 4,500 data analyst applications being started from the site!
Additionally, I've also had multiple people reaching out, both in comment section of my previous updates, but also in DMs, sharing that they have found the site to be extremely useful in their job search, and that they were able to get interviews and onboard new roles through the site - I absolutely love this, and even if the venture doesn't end up being commercially successful, I'm super happy to hear that it has indeed helped people when needed.
Google impressions are over 50% up, albeit the amount of people clicking through to the site remained flat.
On the positive note - the site has finally ranking for all the major target keywords:
"data analyst jobs / data analyst job / data analyst / data analytics jobs"
Pumped about this, as having multiple channels is crucial to long term growth and protecting the site and traffic from algorithm updates.

Things that happened

a) Expired Listings - There's feedback regarding some of the jobs on the site already expiring and leading to non-existing listings. I am trying to come up with a solution where visitors would be able to upvote/downvote and thus highlighting status for everyone else. For now, I went through job listings and marked those roles no longer open as "Expired".
b) Product Hunt launch - Early last month I decided to share DataAnalyst on Product Hunt. The idea wasn't necessarily to try and rank up to the top, but mainly get the site out there, and gain a backlink from ProduntHunt that's going to help the site's authority. Overall the voting process is extremely cumbersome, but we did end up with 36 upvotes which was more than I expected.

Expecting a summer slump

With summer, there's typically very little hiring happening / it's extremely slow as people are taking well deserved time off. I'm expecting activity on the site to decrease, and my main goal for this period is getting together a plan of action to start reaching out to companies in Q4 and Q1, educate them about the site, the value proposition and hopefully get a few partnerships on the books.
What that will look like, I honestly have no idea, but experiment, iterate and go again.
Some of you may have noticed that I've also recently launched BusinessAnalyst.com - where I'm looking to replicate step by step what I've done over the last 5 months with DataAnalyst. The overall idea is to create a network of sites, benefiting from the same infastructure, serving and helping different career paths, and making a collaboration with organisations much more appealing (afterall, most companies who hire for data analysts also look for business analysts and vice versa). Arguably, this might not make much sense seeing that DA still hasn't brought any revenue in, but on the other hand, I can reuse the whole tech stack and structures already in place, halve my cost per project, while doubling the surface area to catch me some luck. Anyways, how this will work out is a case study for another time.

2. The Salary Guide

On a monthly basis, we've been utilising the data available to developing and sharing Market Insights - a deep dive into the data analyst job market, where we can have a look at the job openings and provide you all with insights on the latest hiring trends in the United States.
With these insights I'm trying to bring answers to questions such as: Which industries are hiring the most? Are we seeing any salary increases? And what about the remote working trend?
With that in mind, I'm excited to share that the first five months of insights were consolidated, and the Salary Guide has now been published.
The data analyst salary guide provides the overview of salaries in various industries - and now also shows a more detailed view on each industry page, with a deep dive into how much entry level, senior and lead data analysts can earn depending on their experience.
This is only based on job opportunities on the site, and no external data sources are utilised. The plan is to have it updated quarterly, with the next update in September.
For the US, we've also released the May edition of Market Insights, you can see the full report here.

3. "Day in the Life" - a series of interviews with data analysts sharing their experience, thoughts and advice.

The third interview from our series has been published. In these interviews, we aim to share stories and experiences about the route to becoming a data analyst, keeping up with the skillset, recommendations to aspiring data analysts and much more.
Tisha, who is a data analyst at Tesla, has shared some fantastic insights, and I'd love to highlight couple of my favourite quotes from the interview.
On what she loves about being a data analyst:
"For me, the most exciting aspect of being a data analyst is the opportunity to unlock meaningful insights from vast amounts of data. I enjoy the challenge of uncovering patterns, identifying trends, and translating complex data into actionable recommendations. The ability to make a tangible impact on business outcomes and help organizations drive growth is incredibly rewarding."
On her advice for those aspiring to enter the industry, she shares 6 points that everyone should focus on:
  1. Acquire a strong foundation in SQL. This is an essential tool for data analysis and manipulation.
  2. Familiarize yourself with data analytics tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Alteryx. Demonstrating proficiency in these tools can enhance your employability.
  3. Seek out internships, projects, or volunteer opportunities where you can gain hands-on experience with real-world datasets and analytical challenges.
  4. Continuously enhance your skills by staying updated with the latest trends and best practices in the field. Online courses, webinars, and industry conferences can be valuable resources.
  5. Showcase your skills and projects through a portfolio or personal website. This allows potential employers to see your capabilities and the impact you can make.
  6. Network with professionals in the data industry through events, online communities, and LinkedIn. Building connections can lead to valuable opportunities and mentorship.
We've also touched upon the Question of the Year: Is AI/Chat GPT a threat to data analysts?
Highly recommend reading the full interview.

2023.06.09 16:04 DemiGodInsanity Honkai Character Analysis: Himeko

Honkai Character Analysis: Himeko
Hello everyone!
Today we're going to be talking about a character who has sadly been left out to the wolves in Star Rail, but that is still liked by many, Himeko! As a side note, this is also the first of these that I'm not doing directly on the Star Rail sub, instead doing it on the new community I've created specifically to discuss the lore of the Honkai series, HonkaiLore! But anyway, let's get right into this!
Himeko's splash art
First of all, disclaimer:
The Honkai: Star Rail characters and Honkai Impact 3rd characters who have the same name and similar appearances, except for Welt Yang, are NOT the same person, but instead you may think of them as something akin of parallel versions of each other! I go into detail about this and how the Honkai universe works here! Also, spoilers for Honkai Impact 3rd ahead, be warned!
Now let's get started!

Star Rail's Himeko

To summarize a bit about Himeko in Star Rail, we know her as the "leader" of the Astral Express gang. As a young woman, she found the Express when it became stranded in her world, and decided to fix it up so it could once again travel through worlds. Once she did, she boarded it and since then has been travelling around the universe. Along the way, she's met many companions, starting with Welt and "his blond friend", up to the current crew with the Trailblazer being the newest member aboard.
Though Star Rail has not yet given us much else in terms of her story, we'll now take a look at what her story is in Honkai Impact 3rd, and how this Himeko, Star Rail's Himeko, is important even outside of her own game.

Honkai Impact's Himeko

Himeko Murata, born on June 11th, 1987, is the captain of a battleship known as the Hyperion, as well as the leader of Schicksal's Valkyrie Squad V. In the game, she is a mentor to the main characters, much like her role in Star Rail towards the rest of the crew. She's also their teacher at St. Freya High School.
Himeko's base battlesuit, Battle Storm
However, before she became all these things, she went through a lot in her life.

Himeko's early life and Ryusuke

She was born to her father, Ryusuke Murata, and an unnamed mother. Her mother had a chronic disease, and spent all her time in a hospital. The doctors always requested that Ryusuke stay by her side, in case her condition would worsen, and in any case, to have someone close to her by her side. But Ryusuke would always leave.
Himeko as a child and her mother
You see, Ryusuke worked for Schicksal as the leader of a research facility, specifically the one in charge of a satellite, known as the 4th Divine Key. This was a satellite built by the Previous Era, a civilization from 50,000 years in the past, and it was a tool that would repair the world if and when that civilization was wiped out by the force known as the Honkai. 50,000 years later, it had completed its task and now floated around the Earth without a purpose, enticing Ryusuke to join the team. He had become obsessed with the prospect of alien life and its discovery through space exploration, and believed that his research would change the course of human civilization forever.
Though these may have seemed like selfish and impossible dreams (and selfish they most definitely were), the truth is that Ryusuke would indeed come across alien life. More than that, he would befriend it. But instead of finding it, he was found by it himself. One night, after one of his projects were cancelled for lack of credibility, Ryusuke went home in a rage, especially as this was the same day he received a notice from the hospital, notifying him of his wife's death. At the moment that he decided he would not let anyone or anything get in his way, someone, or more specifically something, approached him.
Ryusuke receives a letter from the hospital, and is watched by something
This little furball is known as Pepper Mint. He belongs to an alien race known as the Sugars, a race that travels from planet to planet, forming their civilization in a sort of "pocket dimension", a world of their own where they are never interrupted. They normally do not interact with humans, as they feel as though if they are discovered they must leave the current planet and move on to another one, but Pepper Mint decided to attempt to meet a human to become his "host". This is because the Sugars have an ability to become monsters, and lend this power to a host, and Pepper Mint had heard the story of Sugar Molass, another of his race who had traveled to Earth and found her host around this area.
Pepper Mint, after coming into contact with Ryusuke, informed him of another alien race, known only as the Sky People. This was a dangerous race, unlike the Sugars, who travelled across different worlds to find places that had high amounts of Honkai energy. They would then take over said places, take all the Honkai energy to feed their own devices while also replacing all living things with their own devices. Ryusuke made it part of his mission to stop the Sky People, perhaps in an attempt to justify the intensity of his research to himself.
Later, in 2005, Himeko had enrolled into the California Institute of Technology. She was studying Space Engineering, following in her father's footsteps, while also having become keen on following alien sightings and rumors of the sort. During her class under teacher Welt Yang, she received a notification for an alien sighting in New Mexico.
Himeko receives a notification for a new alien sighting
Welt Yang, as you may know, was not just any ordinary teacher. He was the sovereign of the group known as Anti-Entropy, as well as the Herrscher of Reason, a super powerful being. After becoming friends with Himeko accidentally, he saw this photo and immediately recognized it. It was not an alien, but instead the Arahato, a mech developed by Anti-Entropy. Of course, he couldn't tell Himeko this, as Anti-Entropy's actions, and the Arahato, were top secret. In order to protect the secret without allowing Anti-Entropy to hurt Himeko in any way, Welt decides to board the same plane as her, and they go to New Mexico.
Here, Welt and Anti-Entropy do their best to cover up the Arahato's existence, eventually finding a way to fool Himeko by plastering up a movie poster for the upcoming Arahato movie (in a rush, the word "coming" was mispelled), which upset her as an explanation but she believed it and left.
The Arahato movie poster
All the while, Ryusuke Murata had his own plans. He had contacted Anti-Entropy, warning them that Schicksal was to use the 4th Divine Key and its immense power to attack them directly. He had requested that they give him asylum in exchange for information on how to stop this attack, to which the Anti-Entropy scientists, Tesla and Einstein, agreed.
After meeting, they discuss the intel that Ryusuke had for them. He had brought a device for unlocking the 4th Key, as well as a document detailing its uses. Einstein shared her worries, as she had not found any information that hinted at the 4th Key even having any use as a weapon, but they took Ryusuke's gifts anyway, as he went to visit his daughter.
Ryusuke meets with Tesla and Einstein
Upon arriving to find Himeko and Welt talking, Welt feels a strong presence coming from Ryusuke. Though he didn't know it at the time, this was the presence of the Sugars' monster form. He decided to look into it immediately, even though Ryusuke didn't seem highly suspicious.
Upon activating the device Ryusuke had given them, Einstein and Tesla found that the 4th Divine Key began releasing Honkai energy and creating a storm over Houston. As Ryusuke, who was spending some time with Himeko, received notification of this, he left in a hurry and met once again with the scientists, claiming that Otto, Schicksal's Overseer, had planted a trap in the device that would activate the Key if anyone attempted to stop it. After helping them break into the device's emergency shutdown, they are able to stop it, but the device's existence, and the fear of reactivating it in an attempt to break its code, leads to Tesla deciding to launch Anti-Entropy's special Anti-Honkai missiles, the Silver Bullet, against the 4th Divine Key to destroy it. Ryusuke, with a small and fast smirk, states that he knows how to find the key's exact location.
Ryusuke offers to help find the key's coordinates
Welt, having his suspicions about Ryusuke, decides to go to his house, where the two men are forced into an amicable conversation due to Himeko's presence. Eventually they are left alone, and Ryusuke introduces Welt to his alien friend, and his monstrous form.
Ryusuke takes Welt into the Sugars' world, where they learn more about the Sky People. This is in an attempt by Pepper Mint to form an alliance between humans and the Sugars in order to stop the Sky People, not just from taking Earth, but to stop their plans entirely. However, the rest of the Sugars race is opposed to this alliance, and decide that they will leave the planet as they have been found out by humans.
Pepper Mint explains some details of the Sky People
As they leave this world, they find that Himeko has been attacked by the Sky People. Taken into Anti-Entropy's care, they find that she has been infected by them, and Ryusuke decides to reveal his intel in full to help his daughter. It turns out that his plan was to give the scientists of Anti-Entropy the wrong coordinates to launch the Silver Bullet, instead having it hit the asteroid the Sky People were using to survey and attack Earth. After having Welt use his powers to destroy this asteroid, it seems Himeko's infection recedes and disappears.
However, Ryusuke is not done. He reveals to Welt that he had been investigating blueprints from the Previous Era, that detailed a project named Project Ark. He wished to create a spaceship that would be able to save a few humans and send them into space, in the meantime allowing the Sky People to take the Earth, or the Honkai to destroy it. Welt is obviously opposed to this, as a majority of humankind would perish as a result, but Ryusuke has become obsessed with the prospect of space exploration and breaking free from the limitations of the human race. He is even willing to sacrifice his daughter for this. In a fit of rage, he crushes Pepper Mint, killing him and taking his power for himself to battle Welt.
Ryusuke crushes Pepper Mint
Despite this monstrous power, Welt is able to defeat, and kill, Ryusuke. Himeko, completely unaware of any of this, or even her father's motivations, is later informed by Anti-Entropy that her father had indeed died. However, his actions, as well as his cause of death, are kept secret from her, being written off as some sort of accident. Himeko, however, is not so easily fooled, and has her suspicions that they may be covering something up. In the end, she decides to join Schicksal after finishing her PhD to find out what truly happened.

Himeko's life in Schicksal

Himeko was not someone with any special abilities. In fact, she had lower Honkai adaptability than most, she was taken in by a mentor, a woman by the name of Ragna Lothbrok. Ragna incentivized Himeko, believing that anyone can become a Valkyrie with enough effort, and Himeko was eventually able to become one, at the age of 19, considered late compared to the average person. In an effort to become stronger against the Honkai, Himeko received an artificial stigma, an implant given by Schicksal that enforced a person's capabilities, but, for Himeko who had low Honkai adapability, this stigma reduced her lifespan, slowly corroding her body.
Ragna Lothbrok, as seen in a stigma art
In 2010, the Valkyrie squad Himeko belonged to, with Ragna as its leader, was sent to subdue the Herrscher of the Void, who had reappeared 10 years after its initial awakening. Her entire squad was killed in front of her eyes during this mission, with Himeko herself being the only survivor. Shortly after, she decided to join St. Freya High School as a teacher, perhaps in an effort to not allow other Valkyries to end up like her squad.
In 2014, the Herrscher of Thunder manifested for the first time in the city of Nagazora, and Himeko was sent to subdue and stop her from destroying the city. Here, Kiana Kaslana, Bronya Zaychik and Mei Raiden had all met and were traveling together, attempting to survive in the midst of a large scale Honkai attack on the city. However, the reality was that the Herrscher of Thunder had manifested within Mei herself. Himeko, using the Scarlet Fusion battlesuit, was able to match up to, and subdue, the Herrscher of Thunder.
Himeko dons the Scarlet Fusion battlesuit
Following this, Himeko and the principal of St. Freya, Theresa, persuade the three girls into joining the school and becoming Valkyries of their own, with Himeko becoming their main teacher, and leader of their Valkyrie squad.

The Herrscher of the Void

It turned out that the Herrscher of the Void had actually manifested within Kiana, Himeko's "favorite" student due to how much she saw of herself in her. In 2016, this Herrscher once again was released into the world, prompted by a plan by Schicksal's own Otto Apocalypse. Himeko was given a serum, known as HSN-b46, by Fu Hua. This serum had been created by a man known as Dr. Magi, when asked by Kiana to create an antidote to Himeko's Honkai corrosion.
Kiana asks Dr. Magi to create Anti-Honkai serum for Himeko
Himeko was led by Fu Hua's powers to find the Vermillion Knight battlesuit, a prototype of the Godsbane series which held a gem with Honkai energy close to the level of a Herrscher. This, combined with Himeko asking Tesla for help to create an anti-Honkai weapon using the serum, known as the God-Slaying Spear, would ensure that she'd be able to defeat the Herrscher of the Void.

The Final Lesson

(You can see the following section for yourself [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dmvNGxYPCU)!)
With serum in hand and equipped with the battlesuit, Himeko prepares to battle the Herrscher of the Void. Though she is continuously overpowered by her, she continues to fight, though completely unable to touch her. She continues to take attacks, and her corrosion worsening to the point of almost completing the process of zombification, but she does not stop, as she wishes to save her student.
Himeko's face and body show signs of Honkai corruption
In one final attack, using up the rest of her strength, and with a lesson to Kiana to always continue to fight and change the world in the way she wishes to see it, Himeko brings down her greatsword on the Herrscher and... misses. Well, seemingly. Himeko never intended to hit the Herrscher at all. After all, she is using Kiana's body, and Himeko does not wish to hurt her. Instead, all Himeko did was for one purpose only: to get close enough. At this moment, while the Herrscher is stunned before her brain can process what's happening, Himeko injects the God-Slaying Spear, with the serum, into the Herrscher, forcing her out of Kiana's body. Having used up all of her power, Himeko peacefully passes away, as the world created by the Herrscher of the Void crumbles around her. Himeko's journey ends after saving her dear student.
Himeko stands, almost lifeless, over the Herrscher
Himeko's journey ends here, but her legacy does not. Kiana would adopt her ideals, fighting for the beauty she saw in the world. Despite it not being perfect, she would fight to turn it into the world she wants to see. Kiana would eventually take on powers similar to those Himeko displayed using the Vermillion Knight battlesuit, fully solidifying her legacy. Finally, they hold a funeral for her, only having the pieces of her sword that they were able to recover.
Himeko's sword fragments lay upon her coffin

Full Circle

13 years later, in 2029, Welt Yang finds himself traveling to a spaceship owned by the Sky People, along with his "friend", Void Archives. I won't go into too much detail about Void Archives, as his identity and details are not important here.
On this spaceship, they find the portrait of someone Welt recognizes: it's Himeko, but not the same Himeko he knows. Void Archives explains this is a Himeko from a world not the same as their own, and Welt decides that, since the Sky People were interested in her, she might be in danger, and he feels a sense of responsibility to help her.
Star Rail Himeko's portrait, visible on the left side slightly cut out
This leads to Welt and Void Archives, through yet unknown means, traveling to the world inhabited by the Himeko we see in Star Rail. From there, we know from lines in Star Rail that Himeko takes the both of them in, before Void Archives eventually leaves for some unknown reason, and that leads us to where we are today with Star Rail!

Conclusion

This ends the story of Himeko Murata! As always, some details were cut out to make sure everything fit in a decent length post. The last thing I want to point out is that, as you may have already seen, the Herta Space Station holds an easter egg to this story.
Shards of Himeko's sword, kept as a Curio
We can find the remains of Himeko's sword, as they were found in Honkai Impact. Though it's unclear how they got here or why, one can see that interacting with them while using Himeko brings some special dialogue, which you can see in the image above, as a small easter egg. This dialogue is a refence to a specific scene, the last scene in which we see HI3's Himeko, during the Everlasting Flames cutscene of the game.
\"Turn into a moon that always tells the warmth and brightness of the sun\"
Himeko appears one last time, within the flames brought about by Kiana's newfound powers. She smiles, before disappearing into the flames, solidifying her legacy within Kiana and her influence on not just her but the entirety of Honkai forever.
This ends the story of Himeko! Thank you very much for reading, and I hope you've enjoyed! Himeko is a very important character, perhaps not for her own characteristics or actions, but she is both the reason Kiana, the main character of Honkai Impact, is who she is today, and also the reason Welt ended up on the Astral Express, and why the Express can even run at all! I look forward to see how her story and character will develop now that we see her on this new path!
(As a side note, Himeko being keen on the Express and even able to fix it reminds me of a Himeko that continued to follow her father's path in being excited and fascinated by space, which is a very poetic thing, what do you think?)
As always, feel free to leave any suggestions, corrections or comments you wish, and I'll respond to everyone! Besides that, I'll see you next time!

2023.06.09 16:00 PlaneAggravating6600 GmbH Shareholder Family Insurance

Hey everyone. I debated whether this is appropriate for the sub as it's not an easy question, but I am lost and really could use some information.
I became a 50% stakeholder in a GmbH in 2017. The intent was my business partner and I would operate a craft beer brewery. He is also a 50% stakeholder but he's employed by the business as the managing director of the GmbH and does all the day to day work running the bar. Because of the pandemic, we sadly weren't able to get the brewery up and running and I never worked for the bar beyond my legal obligation as a stakeholder (eg board of directors meeting).
Instead I opted for life as a stay at home parent to our young children. I was on my wife's family health insurance. I received a call this week from TK stating that as a GmbH owner, I was liable for 6 years of health insurance payments. I sent proof that I have no income of my own and even that the business hadn't made any money. I literally don't spend any time working for the bar - I don't even live in the same city. They stated it didn't matter as the business had hired employees to work as bartenders.
I'm quite confused. I intend to get a lawyer once I have the official paperwork from TK. I've spoken to customer service from the family insurance division and they couldn't tell me what the law said but that I was obligated to pay as I was self-employed. I've found conflicting information after days of google searches as to whether I'm really self-employed or not.
So I'm desperate for some opinions;
  1. Am I really considered self-employed as essentially an investor in the company?
  2. What kind of lawyer do I need to contact?
Thanks for the help.

2023.06.09 15:55 TBZZZ Is $4500/mo Rent Too Much For My Partner and I?

Hi All, I am a new grad moving to a VHCOL City to start work with my partner. Gross combined before bonuses we will be making ~186,000 and plan to fully max 401ks. I do not have state income tax and if my math is correct we should take home roughly 9500 a month post tax and 401k. No car payments or debt. Would also cost to park at the apartment as well. Have any of you been in a situation like this where a splurge on rent felt justified, or are we completely out of our minds for nearing the 50% of post tax on rent alone?
Thanks!
Edit: they offer a month free so it makes the payment roughly 4200/mo if we choose to factor that

2023.06.09 15:51 Vervehound The Twins Latin American Player Development is Abysmal

The cracks in the Falvine administration are starting to become more apparent as we continue to rack up injuries and struggle to combine pitching, hitting and defense on most nights.
I am still an advocate for them overall and believe their blueprint for pitching (especially velocity development) and finding late round gems in the draft is way above anything from the Ryan years in terms of a cohesive plan.
With that said, there is one area the Twins are failing at at an alarming rate and it’s putting us behind our competitors and that is mining international talent, especially out Latin America. It used to be, back in the day, that the Twins were a perennial low spender here and, outside of a one-off year in 2009 where they pulled Sano, Kepler and Polanco, were mostly relegated to the second tier. With the advent of bonus pools, there was a great leveling of this market and talent was much more evenly distributed. Now you didn’t have to trade our best players to the Yankees or Mets to have a Latin pipeline - you could develop your own.
Fast forward to 2023. The Twins have not shied away from spending their bonus pools every year and usually bring in a couple of the top 50 or so prospects every year. But while folks like Acuña and Tatis have helped turn their teams’ prospects around, the Twins have an almost complete nothing burger in Latin American talent. Talents like Julio Rodriguez last year and Elly de la Cruz this year (hell even the freaking Brewers have a guy waiting in the wings in Jackson Chourio) have emerged from the same bonus pools the Twins have signed from but, not only have we not been able to find a transcendental talent (forgiveable but a bummer), we haven’t been been able to find marginal big league talent and our big league roster has suffered.
I’m still intrigued by Emmanuel Rodriguez but it does look like his hit tool is broken. Last year’s crop of DSL Twins that have migrated to the FCL this year is perhaps the most exciting group I can remember so there is some hope. With that said, we are likely one of the top five worst organizations in finding talent internationally and that needs to change. Folks who know these markets will tell you that relationships play a critical role in getting a kid to sign with an organization but the players the Twins sign from here, many highly ranked, tend to be exposed once they come to the States so it’s unclear to me whether it’s a scouting issue, a connections issue, or a combination thereof but whatever it is, it needs an overhaul.

2023.06.09 15:47 Crhchris Help with Amazon seller states tax compliance.

Hello, I've read online that when I sell a product through Amazon I have to pay taxes for the item on the state it was sold to (I'm aware amazon charges the customer for the taxes, but I have to make the payments to the state). At first I thought I had to register to my state and make all payments to my state no matter what state I sold to but I was wrong.
Question is how do you guys manage to do this? I find it quite a hassle to register to almost every state where amazon sells my products and they require me to report every month for those taxes even if I didnt sell any inventory to that state. Is there any software or app that makes it easier?
I heard of taxjar and it's useful but I still have to register to every state (which I'm trying to avoid to do myself because it's a hassle). They also charge like $50 for each tax payment autofiling. If you multiply that by every state where I sell its a lot.
So any advice from you guys? Thanks in advance!

2023.06.09 15:47 PeacefulProtest69 My (23M) GF (23F) wants to move farther west to make super commuting easier for an airline. I'm already far from my family out east. Is there a fair way to work this out?

Some background: We've been dating now for around 2 years. I graduated college at 22 and moved from State A to State B (11 hour drive, no family there for either of us). I got a job there to pair with her job as a flight attendant at that city's major airline hub. She grew homesick and wanted to move closer to family after about a year, so I spoke with my boss and was able to work out a remote work arrangement for the same office - I've been with that company since May 2022 and working remote since April, upon which time we moved in with her parents back in the same metro we grew up. Note that while her family is right here on the west side, my family and friends are all 1 hr+ away on the east side (60-70 miles) so it's been difficult to see them aside from weekends. I've already missed out on a lot I would have typically done with my friends.
Now, 2 people on my team of 5 either "resigned" or were outright terminated. While I don't think my job is in jeopardy and my managers have corroborated as such, I'm trying to keep my options open. One of those ways I want to keep my options open is to stay relatively close to the major city in our region. Well, with her airline's policy on commuting, long story short it's made more sense for her to drive to the next major city (currently around 2:05 drive away) instead of flying standby out of our airport to get to work (35 min drive + airport + flight time). With lower seniority in this base as compared to the old one in State B, super commuting has made her super cranky and she takes it out on me. She admits as such but instead of apologizing, she simply excuses it as normal. The solution, in her view, is to not only move closer to that airport but to BUY A HOUSE closer to that airport. One town she mentioned is still 1:53 away. Now, I'd possibly be willing to rent there, but I don't want to live my whole life in a place so far away from my friends and family. Where we are living currently is bad enough - an amicable compromise to both of us in that regard would be to live a little farther east so that we're 35-45 mins from both of our families and friends. To boot, I'd be closer to the city in the event should I need to commute to a new job's office, up to 5 days a week - I would not have the same luxury in the town she spoke about. I work in a sales-driven, high turnover industry to begin with.
Last night I finally lashed out on her a bit but I was finding her nitpicking about every little thing and taking things out on me I didn't deserve and frankly I let it go on too long. I know for a fact I communicated my boundaries politely several times, but she kept pushing. After moving to and from State B, one of the selling points that finally got me on board for the return trip was that we could be closer to family. Well, I can't if she wants to move. And I have no interest in being marooned on an island with someone who - even when she's only at home ~50% of the week - has a pattern of treating me this way when work is stressful or she woke up on the wrong side of the bed. My hope is that she gains seniority to aid in scheduling favorable trips, or the airline changes their policy to guarantee commuters a seat on a flight (which was the policy up until this year - it could realistically revert to what it was). Until either of those things ease up, I'd entertain the idea of RENTING closer to where she wants but I absolutely do not want to be there long term.I feel like I've sacrificed a ton already in the couple years we've been dating, but it feels like she just keeps taking.
tl;dr: Gf wants to move farther west to be closer to super commute, my family is way east. Moved to and from State B (11 hr drive one way) on her whims in the time we've been dating, and the major reason we came back is to be closer to friends & family. Currently working remote but there's been a lot of turnover there and the majority of job opportunities will be farther east toward the city center, not west. Looking for advice for the fairest compromise or anything else that can be offered. Thanks!

2023.06.09 15:21 mjShazam98 $DFLI Due Dilligence + TA: Deep Dive into

$DFLI Due Dilligence + TA: Deep Dive into
Back in April, $DFLI hit my radar and presented an excellent trade setup, performing beyond expectations. Now it is currently in a spot where it has the potential to do something similar this month. The first part of this post is the DD of the company, and the second half goes into a TA setup that I have might enact on if volume comes into the stock today or this week. I hope you find it informative! I currently do not own any shares YET. I am waiting for increased volume right now.
  1. Company Overview: Dragonfly Energy is a leading player in the green energy storage sector, specializing in the development of lithium-ion batteries. They have gained recognition for their popular Lithium-ion Battery products in the RV and Marine industries under the Battle Born Batteries brand. The company is dedicated to advancing battery technology through unique patented manufacturing processes and boasts a robust R&D department.
  2. Product Focus: Dragonfly Energy focuses on domestically designing and assembling deep cycle LiFePO4 battery packs. They prioritize effective manufacturing processes through automation and extensive quality control measures. Additionally, they integrate batteries with other innovative ancillary components into full energy storage systems, providing comprehensive solutions to their customers.
  3. Market Presence: The company has successfully penetrated various industries through its sales and marketing efforts. Their diverse market focus includes recreational vehicles, marine vessels, and off-grid installations, allowing them to tap into multiple revenue streams and growth opportunities.
  4. Cell Manufacturing and R&D: Dragonfly Energy is involved in cell manufacturing using patented and efficient processes. Moreover, their extensive research and development efforts are focused on developing nonflammable battery cells. They are set to launch a pilot line for this technology later this year, positioning themselves as pioneers in the energy storage market.
  5. Intellectual Property: Dragonfly Energy has a robust intellectual property portfolio, securing its position in the industry. The company holds patents covering various aspects of their business, including chemical composition systems and production processes. This strengthens their competitive advantage and barriers to entry for potential competitors.
  6. Addressing Grid Storage Challenges: With their non-flammable solid-state battery technology, Dragonfly Energy is addressing the challenges of grid storage. Their innovative approach ensures grid stability and resilience in a renewable energy-dependent world, positioning them as a crucial player in the market.
  7. Market Disruption Potential: Dragonfly Energy's solid-state batteries have the potential to disrupt the energy storage market. Being an early mover in this space, the company is well-positioned to capture a significant market share and capitalize on the growing demand for efficient energy storage solutions.
Trade Plan: This stock is back on my trading radar with the current price action of $DFLI. With the price near the bottom of my buy zone, the risk to reward here is too good to pass up. The price is currently at $2.84 and hasn’t had a lot of movement recently. Getting in before the crowd is always some of my more straightforward trades. Looking for the push above $3 with increased volume.
https://preview.redd.it/0ur7y4yotz4b1.jpg?width=2278&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bf9be0c1335997411dde3b8e87682d854b527866
Risk Management: I will implement a stop loss at $2.50, the same stop loss as the last trade setup of $DFLI. If this stop loss were to trigger, this would be a break of solid support, but with the current price, you could move the stop loss lower it is really up to you and your risk preference. My target price for this trade is for the stock to return to $4. I don’t expect this to happen overnight; definitely more of a swing trade. Make sure to take and lock in profits when you see them!
Communicated Disclaimer: Also, remember that swing trading can be risky, and it is essential to conduct your own research and due diligence before investing. Additionally, it is vital to monitor the price action closely and adjust your trade plan accordingly. This is not financial advice, and I urge you to make your own informed decisions.Sources (Stock quote +Info): 1 ,2 ,3 ,4

2023.06.09 15:10 Niedski Corn Wars: Unveiling the Superiority of Nebraska Corn over Iowa Corn

I cannot stand idly by while untruthful slander about Nebraska's premier agricultural product is slandered against in comparison to that grass Iowa tries to pass off as corn.
Fertile Soil: Iowa may have the most fertile soil, I cannot contest that. However Nebraska does much more with what it has. We've bred varieties of corn that are both resistant to drought and poor soil conditions - not to say that Nebraska soil is poor, black soil (mollisols) is one of the major soil orders in the state. We don't have as much as Iowa, but through ingenuity we've overcome this challenge and produce a respectable amount of corn despite not having the same advantages that Iowa has. We weren't born into our corn, we earned it.
Climate Advantage: Nebraska wasn't blessed with as abundant rainfall as Iowa was, early explorers granted us the moniker "The Great American Desert" for a reason and the sandhills are the remains of an ancient desert that have since become grass stabilized. However, unlike Iowa, we again earned our corn by digging deep and finding the power to overcome. Specifically with the Ogalala Aquifer. Nebraska contains the largest portion of the Ogalala Aquifer, and is the only state whose use of the aquifer results in a net gain of water. Iowa may have been blessed with abundant rainfall, but Nebraska corn is leading the way in sustainability in the face of climate crisis.
Variety Selection: Do you think this is a valid point at all? Nebraska corn has just as much variety as Iowa corn. I cannot bring up figures, but I guarantee we've bred just as many varieties for our environment as Iowa as - and our varieties are drought resistant. It's called sustainability, see my previous point.
Ethanol Production: So you lead the nation in a fuel source that will be extinct in 50 years? I won't get on my high horse about climate for this point, Nebraska corn is used primarily for feeding livestock which itself is a climate nightmare, but at least in 50 years I'll still get use out of a hamburger, I will not be putting ethanol in my car. Not to mention that even at E10 concentrations ethanol can cause damage to engines. Next time your engine breaks cause of all the cheap gas you're using, you can thank Iowa's "leading ethanol production". Next time you're eating an Omaha beef hamburger and crying tears of joy, thank Nebraska Corn.
Pride and Tradition: Corn is deeply rooted in Nebraska’s heritage and cultural identity. Generations of Nebraska farmers have dedicated their lives to perfecting the art of corn farming, passing down knowledge and techniques from one generation to the next. This shared heritage and deep pride in their corn-growing legacy contribute to the exceptional quality of Nebraska corn.
Iowa may win the quantity game, but when it comes to securing our future, the proud American tradition of earning what's ours instead of having it handed to us, overcoming adversity, and producing a product that will endure into the future - Nebraska Corn takes it all, and wins the quality game.
Much like Iowa football, Iowa Corn has settled down and become comfortable with mediocrity. They don't want quality or to earn anything, Iowa Corn will see a 9-3 season and say "this is acceptable, I can do this for 50 years". They're scared of risk. They'll never have the lowest lows, but they'll never have the highest highs either. Always a bridesmaid never a bride, and I think that's sad.
