2023.06.08 16:21 Ilovepigstoomuch Gedatsu is a Yonko+ level and possibly the strongest being in the verse, With evidence.
| Gedatsus first appearance Gedatsu is a (seemingly) minor antagonist of the Skypeia arc, being an apparent comedic relief opponent for Chopper to face in a one-on-one fight. While the fight itself may seem unremarkable to most it, along with his post-fight cover story arc, reveals a being that has feats of such great magnitude that they surpass even that of the mightiest pirates such as Kaido. Please do read if you wish to uncover the truth behind the most powerful character to ever live. Exhibit A) use of jet dials In this panel Gedatsu shows that his main form of attack involves the use of jet dials, both for flight and 'enhanced' punches. However what is really happening here is that Gedatsu is using the jet dials to cover up his true strength by making them do all the punching work while he simply sits back and activates them. This along with his supposed extreme stupidity is what led to his defeat. However after being hit by Chopper with a well placed attack he is not actually defeated but is merely knocked into the clouds. He does not even appear to be badly injured afterwards and therefore it can be assumed that he most definitely could have continued, which will have ultimately led to Choppers demise. It is then worth mentioning that he has never actually been defeated in combat. Exhibit B) Mercy Gedatsu, instead of rising up and finishing the job, felt that he must leave the battlefield as he knew it was the perfect opportunity to get away from Enel and his abuse of the Gedatsu observation haki. At this point Gedatsu plummets over 10 kilometres to the ground, and most would assume to his death. However this is where he begins to show his true power. Exhibit C) Surviving the fall Gedatsu had fallen 10 kilometres straight down into hard ground HEADFIRST but somehow had survived with ease and only one chapter later was seen in his next cover story out of the ground seemingly fine He is not bothered As you can see here he has indeed ended up with a large bump on his head, however clearly this is superficial and ignorable damage as Gedatsu does not even attempt to tend to his wounds and simply sits in awe at the magnitude of this feat. Take a direct comparision with Kaido. Kaidos introduction showcased him falling off a sky island straight down headfirst into the ground. Sound familiar? Exhibit D) Kaidos reaction to the fall The sky island that Kaido fell from was around 9 kilometres above ground, which even if somewhat close is still not the same height from which Gedatsu fell. Given his wider frame and larger size he may have also not fallen as quickly as Gedatsu even if both reached terminal velocity. As you can see in this panel however Kaido commented on having a splitting headache AND was tending to his head injury. Whatever visible injury he may have had is obscured by a silhouette however this clearly shows that the fall injured Kaido to a higher degree than Gedatsu. Given that Kaido is considered to be one of if not possibly the most durable character in the series this feat by Gedatsu automatically puts his durability at the absolute PINACCLE of power in the One Piece verse. However while many people have commented on this feat before I will now go further. Exhibit E) Exponential growth in power and gravity manipulation. Here you can observe Gedatsu hitting the ground with a pickaxe and seemingly doing an unremarkable job. This is very much true however this leads into a cover story in later chapter which withholds one of the most shocking feats of power and reality manipulation witnessed in the One Piece verse. Bending of a pickaxe and gravity manipulation Oda does not do things without reason and defying the very physics which holds the earth together cannot have been done merely for a gag. Here it is clearly shown that Gedatsu is again hitting the ground with a pickaxe but now two new things are happening: A) The pickaxe has been bent out of shape in just one clean hit and B) Gedatsu is standing on a wall. The pickaxe needs quite a large deep dive so it would be better to cover the gravity manipulation first. This feat speaks for itself and highly suggests that Gedatsu either secretly has a gravity manipulating devil fruit or actually is just capable of manipulating his local reality. It cannot be a localised gravity anomaly given that the man next to him is unaffected so therefore this is the work of Gedatsu and highly backs up the claim that he can manipulate reality to his given will. This would certainly place him at Yonko level and above. The pickaxe feat required some further calculation as it is not a feat that can be gauged visually, however it is certainly the case that somehow Gedatsu swung the pickaxe at such a speed that the friction with the air partially melted the pickaxe and solidified it again in making contact with the air, thus deforming it to how it is in the panel. He would have had to manage this in a tiny amount of time and therefore I with an associate were able to deduce that he would have needed to exert around 100 million newtons of force at least to achieve this, assuming that he was using an average approximately 2.3kg pickaxe, which it may be even heavier considering its size equivalent to his height. By looking at his form as well it can be seen that this was done with only his arm strength in mind and likely with minimal effort given his completely straight arms and back. This is undeniably a feat that would contend even with the strongest of characters and it isn't even necessarily a gauge of his full power. Exhibit F) Defeating the ground and forest bosses Now this is a feat that has been unfortunately greatly understated by many onlookers, however these beasts are not just large animals but are representations of mother earth itself. They are not just 'a earth boss' or 'a forest boss' but they are THE earth boss and THE forest boss. This can be obviously interpreted as Gedatsu challenging even the guardians of earth and Gaia herself, showing his ability to challenge the gods and defeat their beasts, with only one punch each mind you. Observe the dials Of course you may take note of the fact that he has damaged his sleeves in both of these battles which means that he did indeed use his impact dials to defeat both beings. However you must keep in mind that for his whole life he has been using them to mask his own power, so at this point they are merely second nature for him to use. Given his stances after defeating both they were clearly considerable opponents worthy of challenging Godatsu. While almost all evidence has been given there is still one more piece of the puzzle that completely destroys any sort of counterevidence that you may have: Exhibit G) The height theory. This will likely ring a bell for many fans of powerscaling, but the height theory states that when two characters rival one another it is always the taller who triumphs. In Zoro and Sanjis case Zoro is taller, and stronger. In Queen and Kings case King is taller, and stronger. In Mihawk and Shanks case Shanks is taller, and I will not comment on that because otherwise it will become the main point of discussion. In the Admirals case Akainu is taller than Aokiji, and stronger. With all of that evidence in mind refer to this diagram, including the yonko Luffy and Enel himself. Gedatsu clearly TOWERS over both of them and any other character featured, clearly meaning that he is significantly stronger than all featured characters and is therefore at least yonko level based off of this alone. When combined with other evidence it makes it clear that Oda intended it to be this way. With all of that evidence in mind it is obvious and to me and it should be obvious to anyone who has read through it that Gedatsu is easily the most powerful character in the current One Piece world and perhaps the strongest being to ever live in the planets history. submitted by Ilovepigstoomuch to OnePiece [link] [comments] |
2023.06.08 16:20 DevOpsMakesMeDrink Buying a 40k+ minivan without a test drive.
Hi all,
I have heard the stories of the car market, but since my family has expanded and my old beaten down car is showing it's age and we're getting crammed, I was looking at upsizing. However the reality of the situation is, the dealership doesn't have any of the models to test drive and basically are saying either buy it outright without seeing it or it will be gone before it gets here.
Obviously I am not keen on dropping that amount of money on a vehicle I have never seen in person outside of pictures online, nevermind test driven it. I am a big guy, 6 foot 4 and in my current small car I have to sit hunched forward so my head isn't pushed into the roof. So this is one thing I am worried about is feeling I have enough room.
Another thing is I know it is a minivan, but in my car with my kids car seat, my wife has to sit in the back seat because there isn't enough room to push the passenger chair back enough to be comfortable. We wanted to see how much room we really had so that she can rejoin me in the front seat on trips.
Speaking of trips, even something like going to costco I have to go solo because there isn't enough storage for the purchases with my family with me. So this is why we were looking at a bigger vehicle.
I am looking for experiences others have had in the past few years. I know we are in new territory with cars, and you basically take what they offer or go f yourself but I am having a really hard time pulling the trigger on something like this.

2023.06.08 16:20 TheyCallMeSpadoodles 2016 WRX Premium clutch questions.
I just picked up a 2016 wrx with almost 130k on the clock. Only mods are short throw shifter, stereo, and minor cosmetic mods. Whenever I try to get to freeway speeds it almost feels like the transmission is jumping or slightly slipping. Occasionally when shifting into second gear you can hear the teeth grind slightly. I read somewhere that could be a sign of the clutch going out and I'm pretty sure this is the original clutch. I'm looking for recommendations for a replacement clutch that maybe a step above OEM. I have no plans to race or track the car at this time but I would like to eventually do a Cobb accessport and minor perfomance mods sometime down the road. The article linked in the FAQ page felt sponsored so I'm asking people who won't profit from my choices what they think.

2023.06.08 16:18 WilhelmTrooper Every time my gf blows me I feel like I’m having a panic attack and I can’t cum.
Alright so yeah, this is an issue. So far my gf has given me 4 blowjobs over the course of our relationship. She actually gives me the best blowjobs I’ve ever had in my life, it’s insane.
But for some reason this keeps happening. Whenever she goes down on me my hands, chest, and face go numb, like a more aggressive version of “pins and needles”. I start to shake and freak out a bit, trying to hold in a full-blown panic attack. Even though what she’s doing feels really good I just completely lose my mind and go into panic. I start to freak out about the fact that I’m freaking out because I don’t want to hurt her or anything and I also just want to enjoy what’s happening so I’m mad at myself for panicking, so it just starts this spiraling down into a state of panic. It gets to the point where sometimes I just lose my boner, but every time consistently I don’t cum (I have another post about that), even though sometimes it feels like I’m about to.
I have zero idea why the fuck this is happening and I’d really like it to stop. Has this ever happened to you? How did you deal with it?
I’ve had blowjobs from other girls before and this didn’t happen then.

2023.06.08 16:18 Latter-Bumblebee-268 My Boyfriend still chats with his high school Ex after he cheated on me with her, i live with him now, do i get rid?
For some context, me (F22) and my boyfriend (M38) who we will call Q have been dating for 3 years, so yes we started dating when i was 19, i now see why that's not cool but at the time i was young and didn't think there was a problem. I'm originally from the North and moved down to London to study my degree which started in 2020, covid meant i couldn't leave my uni accommodation apart from a daily walk which was like prison so Q asked if i wanted to stay with him for a while (we'd been chatting for 6 months at this point) so i agreed, i ended up staying with him for almost a year until the 2nd year of uni started.
I found out after this year by going through his phone (my gut told me something was not right) that he slept with a woman (Z) during this period, possibly a few times when i'd gone up north to visit family. She was his high school ex who he'd told me about perviously but said they are just friends now. Between the time of them ending in college he'd had a whole other 7 year relationship where he had a house and a child which ended due to his baby momma leaving him for someone else. Because of this i allowed them to be friends since they hadn't recently broke up, Q assured me there was nothing romantic between them and i didn't want to be controlling, rookie error i know, once an ex always an ex.
Anyways, after finding this out we split for a few months i got over it and was living uni life to the full, then he somehow wormed his way back in sending apology after apology assuring me that it wasn't anything but a mistake, that he loved me, saw a future and would do anything to get me back. I said that he cannot have any contact with this girl obviously, which he agreed to. But Z had given him some money to invest for her (Q is big into crypto) and due to the market being down he couldn't take it out right now to give her it back, so he assured me as soon as the market goes back up he'll give her the money back and that will be it between them. i agreed, stupidly, and here we are 2 years later.
I recently finished my degree and my lease ran out at my London place, so i planned to go back up north till i got a job etc sorted. Q said he'd be happy for me to stay with him for a while till i get everything sorted and it would be best for me to stay down here so i could attend interviews. I don't have the best home life in the north so was dreading going back so this was perfect. Job dependent i have a friend who i'm going to be moving in with in late July so staying here is only temporary.
Me and Q are on really good terms, we go out on date nights, are always affectionate with one another, even me and his daughter have a really good relationship when she comes to visit, everything seemed perfect. But i'd always wondered if he did stop speaking to Z, i didn't like bringing it up because it throws the whole mood off for a few days, he'd say things like 'stop living in the past and focus on us now blah blah'. So i went on his phone to find the answer and found that Z had been messaging him every 2/3 weeks with messages like 'how's you' 'long time no chat', this woman does not let go, he hadn't replied to any of them, until recently where he called her, it says the call failed and she messages him 'Are you okay, sorry i missed your call' he replied 'Hey i'm good, just thought we could catch up, hope your well etc..' just generic convo with a little banter, she replied with 'i haven't seen you in so long, we should meet up, i'm back in the UK in 2 weeks' (she lives between Mexico and the UK) that was on June 1st and he has opened the message, but not yet replied. I am monitoring the situation to see if she messages him again or he agrees to meet her, then i really will fly off the handles. But for now what do i do, do i keep monitoring? Do i bring it up and risk and argument starting and me being kicked out and forced to go up north? Do i just ask him about the him and her situation, see if he lies but that might be too obvious.
I really feel a lack of respect as he knows how much the cheating affected me, i had to go to therapy. I don't really ask him for much ever, but i told him when we got back together he cant have any contact with her but he had just carried on oblivious. I don't think theres anything going on between them but the fact that something could means i cant fully trust him, i just wish he would block her and we could get on with our relationship and future.

2023.06.08 16:17 Electronic_Cloud_743 Toddler Help
Hi all,
I am just trying to figure out if my child is normal or if I need help in some way. My wife says he is very good compared to other kids but I have no experiences to base that off of (we are trying the gentle parenting route).
My son is about 3.5 yo and has between 5-10 huge meltdowns a day. It seems like every simple thing becomes a meltdown with him. For instance, last night when he asked for a piece of candy, I told him "we can't have a piece of candy this close to bed time, but we can have one tomorrow after breakfast", he waited until I left the room, moved his step stool over to the counter, climbed onto the counter and was trying to get to the top cupboards where we keep the junk food. I told him he needed to get done off the counter, he refused so I took him down and we went to his bedroom where he proceeded to scream bloody murder, thrashing about and ended up biting me.
In other instances (when we give him a few options for what he can do) he tells us, "those are not the options". This leads to more tantrums.
He refuses to take naps and he fights sleep at night to the point where he doesn't go down until 11 or 12 some nights. We start trying to get things rolling around 7:30 p.m. bath, stories etc.
He also consistently tells my wife and I that we are bad parents. This is so exhausting. I recently left my job to stay home while my wife works from home. I have so much motivation to get the house clean and he just saps it all away before lunch time.
Sorry for the word vomit, I just have no one to vent to. There is so much more and therapy is only every other week 😅

2023.06.08 16:17 apikoros18 Should we do the black out sub thing other subs are doing over the 3rd party api stuff?
Personally, I say no but figured I'd get some thoughts. Also, despite being a mod, I have no idea how to make the sub black out. Also, I have no idea what the other mods think.
Finally, here is a ritual I've designed. Perhaps we could all do it at the same time. Feel free to make it yours.
This ritual aims to channel the forces of chaos and synchronicity to manifest a protective shield for third-party apps on Reddit, preventing their banishment. By combining intention, belief, and the vibrant spirit of Lizzo, we will tap into the cosmic currents of change and influence the collective consciousness surrounding this issue.
Materials:
- A candle (preferably in a color that represents creativity and empowerment, such as orange or yellow)
- A printout or representation of the Reddit logo
- Incense or smudge stick (optional)
- A small bowl of water
- A piece of paper and pen
- Your favorite Lizzo song (to be played during the ritual)
Instructions:
- Preparation:
- Find a quiet and comfortable space where you won't be disturbed.
- Set up your materials on a clean surface.
- Light the candle and the incense/smudge stick (if using).
- Take a few deep breaths to center yourself and enter a focused state of mind.
- Invocation:
- Hold the Reddit logo or representation in your hands.
- Close your eyes and visualize a vibrant, pulsating energy surrounding the logo.
- Recite the following invocation (feel free to modify it or create your own):
- "Oh, mighty forces of chaos and synchronicity, I call upon you to protect the third-party apps of Reddit. I summon the essence of Robert Anton Wilson's wisdom, And the joyful spirit of Lizzo's empowering energy. May the tides of change align in our favor, And shield these apps from banishment forevermore."
- Symbolic Gesture:
- Take the piece of paper and pen.
- Write down your intention clearly and concisely.
- For example: "I intend to prevent Reddit from banning third-party apps."
- Place the paper in the bowl of water, visualizing the ink merging with the water, symbolizing the manifestation of your intention.
- Dance of Empowerment:
- Put on your favorite Lizzo song, one that resonates with your personal power.
- Begin to move your body in a way that feels natural to you, allowing the music to inspire and energize you.
- Dance with intention, feeling the rhythm and the lyrics infusing you with confidence and strength.
- As you dance, envision waves of positive energy radiating from your body and merging with the protective shield around the Reddit logo.
- Closing:
- Take a moment to express gratitude for the energies you've invoked.
- Extinguish the candle and incense/smudge stick, thanking them for their participation.
- Keep the paper with your intention in a safe place or dispose of it respectfully.
- Whenever you use a third-party Reddit app, visualize the protective shield surrounding it, reinforcing the intention of the ritual.
Rituals are symbolic and psychological tools that can help focus your intention and tap into the power of belief. This ritual is intended to be performed with a sense of joy, creativity, and empowerment. Respect the free will and policies of Reddit while working towards positive change.

2023.06.08 16:17 SWGeek2197 Beta 3/Complaint
Hello,
I need some help. This is my fourth attempt to post here. It keeps getting taken down immediately. Not sure why.
This update seems to have bricked my 5a. It has completely gone to BSD. If I plug it up, it will vibrate but nothing else. I have tried to have it open with safe boot and no luck. I have even tried to do a factory reset. It is like the buttons are not working.
I am not sure if it is completely broke or if I can somehow save it while plugging it up to a laptop.
Any suggestions or directions to either get my screen to turn on or how I should factory reset via a laptop . All suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thank you

2023.06.08 16:16 whole_nother r/hyrule_irl will be going dark beginning June 12 in protest against Reddit’s API changes, which kill 3rd party apps
As the moderation team of
hyrule_irl, we have concerns about recent changes to Reddit.
A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.
On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader.
Even if you’re not a mobile user and don’t use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface.
This isn’t only a problem for users: many subreddit moderators (including both of us here in
hyrule_irl) depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.
Accordingly, the moderation team of
hyrule_irl is declaring its opposition to this API pricing change, and will be shutting down the subreddit in solidarity on June 12th.
Find out what you can do to help at
Save3rdPartyApps- or, if you moderate a subreddit, its sister sub

2023.06.08 16:16 BuildingSupplySmore Southern Book Club's Guide To Slaying Vampires, Frustration, and Hendrix's Third Acts
This isn't meant to be a detailed analysis and review, so I'm not going to touch on the themes or more specific aspects of the story. I just wanted to throw some thoughts on here after finishing the book a couple of days ago.
I enjoyed this book after a few false starts when I got it last year. I got the book a long while back, and I'd begin it, and put it down, again and again. The first few chapters weren't bad, but they didn't hook me, and I'd end up reading something else as a result.
But, then I picked up Hendrix's newer novel "How To Sell A Haunted House" and really enjoyed it. I noticed a couple of pacing issues in that book, but enjoyed it so much, I decided to buckle down and finish Book Club.
Haunted House gave me a better feel for Hendrix's writing, who first came on my radar because of his book Paperbacks From Hell. Once I got a sense of his tone and style, it was a lot easier to get sucked into Book Club.
But now that I've read two of his novels, I think the trend between them is definitely a problem with third acts, and I was curious if anyone else felt the same way, or if this was unique to these two books in his catalog.
The central parts of the books and the rising action both get really intense and exciting, and he dumps a ton of new concepts at you and hints at larger plot points and more story to tell, then it's like he got a phone call in the middle of a discussion and he quickly "wraps things up" with "and then they have a big fight, win, and it's all resolved, the end!" And he runs off to talk to his aunt or whatever.
In Haunted House he suddenly throws all these other puppets and dolls into the battle, and he never explains how they gained sentience, and he doesn't touch on the other paranormal elements he introduced.
And in Book Club, he quickly adds in that Slick is going to possibly turn into a vampire, a possible vampire association, and only briefly touches on his central characters lives in an epilogue fashion.
I can see what he may be going for here- leaving the reader wanting more, introducing an element of mystery to his stories, chilling implications....
But I think he doesn't do a great job of having that effect. He certainly does make me wish there was more, but not in a "Oh no, what a terrifying thread left hanging!" And more in a "This feels like it was setting up for a sequel that won't ever come" way.
I think this is magnified by the fact that his endings feel truncated, so we're so suddenly thrown into the final confrontation, that I end up lingering on those under developed aspects even more. I end up feeling like, if the third act had had more time to breathe, then maybe there'd have been more satisfaction for those elements.
As for the frustration I mentioned in the title- Book Club has some pretty realistic depictions of middle class suburbia, at least from my country bumpkin perspective. I found myself disliking everyone in the novel except Ms. Greene. I sympathized with the main character, and I found myself infuriated with how she was treated.... And then the time skip happens and she's in lock step with everyone! Ahhh! Haha, it was a great example of how easily people can be pressured into conformity and a lack of empathy for people outside their circles, but man, that entire section of the book raised my blood pressure!
I know Hendrix is in the HorrorLit subreddit, not sure if he browses here, so I'll just crosspost it there, so if you end up reading this- keep up the good work! I know I had some criticisms, but I still enjoy your books a lot.
Anyone else have similar feelings, disagree?

own smoldering corpse, into the blackened sockets of my melted eyes, and ice raked my spine and splintered my bones, shivering all the way down to my frozen fingertips.
You knew this day would come, whispered a voice in my head. And then, as my nose wrinkled,
Ugh, I smell like bacon.
Giggles. Oh dear. Not beneficial. Couldn’t I try to approach my death with some dignity? No? Well… fine. Ignoring my own bubbling hysteria, I held my napkin over my nostrils and leaned in. Cross-legged in a lotus position, hands cradled and thumbs touching, crispy me (hehe) held the pose of a meditating monk. From the liquor bottles scattered around the burnt wreckage as well as the pose, I’d started the fire myself. But what induced such madn—
Glowing white light suddenly emanated from the blackened sockets. I gasped, tumbling backwards over the coffee table.
When I sat up, the light was gone.
It did not reappear during the half hour I charged my phone, keeping one leery eye on my corpse while I used the ship’s spotty wifi for research.
A Mysterious Contagion According to Google, the worst cruise disaster in modern times involved the partial capsizing of a vessel after a captain’s error led to a rock tearing open the hull. Of the four thousand passengers, 34 drowned.
Another ship infamously dubbed the “poop cruise” had its engines catch fire, and passengers were stranded for nearly a week on board without electricity or toilet facilities.
But the Seastar was not destined for any ocean or weather related incident, but rather, a
contagion. And while coronavirus and norovirus have both afflicted cruise ships in recent years, no virus—not even rabies—could explain the self-mutilation. To say nothing of the virulence. A mortality rate of 100%? That was unheard of in nature. There should be
some survivors, if only by happenstance.
Or is it because… A terrible chill spread up the flesh of my arms, and a thought lodged like an ice pick in my skull:
What if the doom of the Azure Seastar isn’t happenstance—but deliberate? Are there no survivors because someone doesn’t want there to be? Numb at the implication, I set down my phone. But how? Why? A thousand passengers and crew… If there
was someone planning such a disaster, how would I identify them? And why would anyone commit such an atrocity? My gut tightened, and I got up and ventured out to the upper decks.
Deck 9 Cold. Cold. Cold. The chill in my bones deepened with each hand I brushed. Passengers glared as I fumbled around, dismissing me as either blind or mentally feeble. The blindness was somewhat accurate—I couldn’t see under the electric lighting in the swanky interior, since my eyes were seeing six days in the future, when the Seastar would be plunged into blackout. I depended on my phone’s feeble flashlight as I navigated the sea of guests around the bar and lounge areas. But no matter how many arms and hands I bumbled into—
COLD! With no accidental survivors, I was becoming more and more convinced the Seastar’s doom must be deliberate, but I was still very much in the dark—literally and figuratively—about why.
The most useful discovery of the evening came after my collision with a heavyset older man whose drink I spilled. Noticing me sweeping around my phone’s pitiful beam and assuming I’d lost something, he offered to lend me a more powerful flashlight from his cabin.
“It’s one of those high powered ones if you want it.” He smiled, and I stared, every hair on my neck standing on end.
“Uh… Something on my face?” His smile turned into a confused frown under my phone’s light.
“N-no. Yes, a flashlight would be very helpful, thank you.”
“This way. Name’s John, by the way.” His grin returned.
Oh God—I’d recognized him. Glass chewing man. He had a name now.
I am ashamed to admit that I tried not to speak to him too much on the way to his cabin, despite his doing me a kindness. It’s so much harder to face death with names and histories attached. I remained standing outside his cabin door, looking incredibly guilty as he emerged and set into my hand the flashlight. When I turned it on, it sent a floodlight straight down the corridor one end to the other. In addition to this useful tool, the encounter brought a critical insight.
His clothes. Glass chewing involved a different outfit. So, the catastrophe would not strike tonight.
Pool deck After brushing roughly a billion
COLD hands, as the overnight crowd began thinning, I took myself out to a lounger (being unwilling to overnight in my cabin wreathed in the fumes of my own chargrilled corpse).
Voices woke me in the dead of night.
The moon and stars offered the only illumination over the pitch sea, and I shambled groggily to the rail. It struck me that the wind had died—the Seastar was stationary.
Out on the pale peaks of waves, a rescue craft bobbed up and down.
“Looks like some idiot went overboard,” complained a voice behind me.
A cluster of passengers had gathered. One—with the authority of an experienced cruiser—mentioned the possibility of a suicide jumper. “It shouldn’t affect our itinerary much,” declared the man. “These things happen at sea, you know. After the rescue, he or she—let’s call them Passenger X—will be taken to the infirmary and monitored by security…”
I didn’t hear the rest of his words, because I was too busy smacking my forehead as I burst, “The
INFIRMARY!” Good fucking gracious, was my brain
already barbecue? I suspected a contagion, yet hadn’t thought to search the infirmary? Snatching up my flashlight, I headed downstairs, but the lower decks were cordoned off.
A jovial crewman explained that passenger access was restricted during rescue operations.
“Also, it’s three in the morning,” he added, sipping coffee from a styrofoam cup. “The infirmary will open—I think around eight?”
“Which deck?”
“Deck two.” He gladly explained the layout when I asked. The lower decks also included crew quarters, a crew lounge, mess hall, the engine room, kitchens, food storage, the “highway” used for quickly trafficking trolleys from one end of the ship to the other, the infirmary, various machinery rooms, a brig, a morgue—“We mostly use it for like, chilling flowers and stuff like that though,” he added with a grin. There was also a third staircase near the stern of the ship—the aft stairwell—used regularly only by staff but opened to passengers in cases of emergency.
As he rattled off this list, I could feel myself plunging deeper into despair. This ship was so enormous, and so much of what lay below was off limits to passengers. Furthermore, there were no windows below! How was I going to make my way in the blackout? Even with John’s flashlight, the prospect was daunting.
But first things first, Cass, I told myself. The infirmary.
Infirmary At 8am sharp I stepped into the infirmary. The waiting room was as ordinary as they come, complete with boring magazines and cheap office chairs and—because it was deep in the interior—pitch dark to my sleep-deprived eyes.
“Morning, Sweetie! How can I help you today?” The secretary at the front desk tipped her head toward me, revealing a glimpse of another face beneath my flashlight—mouth gaping and mangled, every tooth pulled out. Blissfully unaware that she was sharing her chair with her own corpse, the secretary smiled and gave me a clipboard of paperwork for check in.
While I filled out the forms by flashlight, footsteps shuffled near the desk, and the secretary struck up a conversation with someone I assumed was a nurse. My ears pricked when they gossiped about last night.
“… did you hear about the rescue? When they pulled him out of the water, he wasn’t breathing...”
I pretended to be engrossed in the forms.
“… As soon as they revived him, he started screaming and screaming.”
“Oh my god… seriously?”
“Yeah, and he was like, super aggressive. They had to sedate him.”
“Oh my god…”
“It’s really weird… they’re saying he might have come from another ship, and it might’ve been, like… days… that he was out on the water!”
So this Passenger X who was pulled in last night had just been drifting out on the ocean? He
wasn’t a jumper? And he was “screaming and screaming”—like, perhaps, someone maddened? I was about to abandon my forms and search for this Passenger X when the secretary all but gave me a heart attack by materializing in front of me out of the dark. She took the paperwork and informed me the nurse was ready. I was directed to a small examination room—one of three, I noted as I swept my beam around the infirmary. Examining tables, chairs, computers. No sign of any screaming passenger. Where would they have brought him?
The nurse, a young woman in a hijab, asked me the typical questions, typing my responses into a computer with a cracked, dead screen.
“Is he all right? The man who was rescued?” I asked. “Was he drifting long?”
She responded pertly, “We’re still trying to ascertain. But don’t worry, he’s being helped—um….” Her brow scrunched as she shone a light into each of my eyes.
Of course. I forgot to warn her.
“That’s so strange…” she murmured. “Are you wearing contact lenses?”
“No. My eyes are very black. Even under a flashlight they don’t reflect any light. They’ve been that way since I was four years old. I was dead for nearly an hour from drowning, but revived, and everything came back normal except for my eyes.” I’d always believed my horrific visions were the result of my near-death experience, as if I wasn’t supposed to come back, and brought a little bit of death with me, just in my eyes.
“Wow! What a wild story!” The nurse exclaimed.
“You have no idea,” I replied, looking at her corpse peering out at me from under the examination table, all jammed around the base.
A knock on the door cut our exam short before I could warn her (not that it would make any difference). She asked me to wait for a few moments and stepped out.
When she did not immediately return, I slipped away in search of Passenger X.
Highway The moment I stepped out of the infirmary and away from the nearby elevator lounge, it became evident I’d left the passenger areas. All veneer of luxury was stripped away, leaving bare walls interrupted only by occasional stacks of boxes. The flashlight’s wide beam swept along the massive corridor that I was guessing was the “highway.” My footsteps resounded on concrete. Nothing but sterile, windowless white—or at least it had been white, once.
I tried not to look too closely at the crimson streaking the walls or the corpses I stepped over. The origin of the contagion was definitely down
here. Even through the napkin held over my nose, I could taste death here—
Hello? What was this?
In one section of the corridor, the walls and floor had
rippled. Almost as if a shockwave had left indentations, bending and shattering the concrete. But what could have done that?
The lights flickered.
I froze.
It wasn’t my flashlight’s beam. That remained steady. The lights—the
overhead lights—flickered, casting the hall in blinking flashes of crimson streaks and white walls.
Then the lights came
on. All the bodies vanished.
“Oh,” I said, blinking against the sudden brightness. “
Oh.” The smell was gone, too. No scent of death. Though there was something else. A strangely metallic, tangy smell. Like lightning and copper.
I shut off my flashlight, turning a slow circle as I gawked at the stark white walls, the flat gray floor, the dazzling fluorescent lighting so bright it almost blinded me. It struck me that I was seeing the ship
right now. Not six days in the future, but
NOW, before the blackout, before the outbreak. The same whitewashed hallway as all the other passengers saw.
Why? What had happened to my vision? Had I lost my special sight? Or—
Someone was standing in the corridor.
I froze.
The hairs on my neck prickled, and a knot of dread twisted my gut.
The man stood halfway down the highway, slouched and bedraggled. His clothes were crushed and faded, hanging off him like from hangers of bone. His limp hair draped in messy curls around his unshaven face. And his eyes—those eyes! The same eyes I’d seen looking at me from the deep end of a public swimming pool when I was just a child. The same eyes I’d seen staring emptily from John’s glass-chewing corpse, and from the mangled nurse under the table. All the dead have the exact same look in their eyes. One glance at those pale blue orbs—
This man was
dead. I was certain of it.
Yet he was standing.
“You,” I said. “You… are you the passenger who—”
The dead man’s lips spread, baring teeth in what might have been a sick imitation of a grin, or a grimace.
“
HEY!!!”
I jumped as a voice called out behind me.
An officer in a security uniform strode out from an unmarked door, eyes on the dead man. The security officer said, “Ma’am, stay back.” His gaze never left the dead man. “Sir, if you could please come with me—”
“No!” I cried. “Don’t!”
But the security officer was already marching forward, and the dead man’s hands lifted in stiff parody of surrender. He turned and began shuffling away under the officer’s escort. And then—his teeth bared. Suddenly the dead man had his arm around the officer, mouth clamping on his ear as the officer howled. He was
eating him—no, tongue wriggling—licking him?
—whispering?
The officer shoved the dead man aside and collapsed against the wall. I rushed forward, but skidded to a halt as the dead man’s grinning face turned toward me. Terror seized me at the sudden revelation that I was next. He took a wobbly step—
The lights shut off.
Swearing, I fumbled for my flashlight. Switched on the beam. Shrieked when it fell across a hand—but it was just the security officer reaching for me, asking, “Hey—hey, are you all right, Ma’am?” He winced, rubbing at his ear like a dog bothered by a whistle only it could hear. Then he said into his phone, “He assaulted me and got away. I’ve got another passenger here—”
The stench wafted back. Gore once again splattered the walls. I was once more seeing six days into the future, and clapped my napkin to my mouth to stop myself from retching at the return of the smell. But I wasn’t really thinking about all that.
No, because my heart slammed my ribs and my breath ripped ragged from my throat, and every hair stood on end as if I’d been struck by lightning. Whatever it was the crew of the Seastar had hauled from the ocean, it certainly hadn’t been living when they “rescued” it. And the proof was in those overhead lights. Merely being in proximity to Passenger X, my vision had been pulled into the present. Like he was a magnet drawing my sight into his field. But if death was the thing my black, lightless eyes usually glimpsed, then what exactly
was Passenger X? And if he could affect my vision, not to mention animating a dead man’s corpse… how was I going to have any hope of
stopping him? [Part 1] [Part 2] submitted by

2023.06.08 16:14 iksplor Why Merino Wool Base Layers are Perfect for Year-Round Comfort
| When it comes to choosing base layers for outdoor activities, one fabric stands out for its exceptional comfort, versatility, and performance: merino wool. Merino wool base layers have gained popularity among outdoor enthusiasts for good reason. With its natural properties and innovative technology, merino wool offers year-round comfort, making it the ideal choice for adventurers, athletes, and anyone seeking ultimate comfort in all seasons. https://preview.redd.it/o0mnnm9iys4b1.jpg?width=506&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1f3da2d04c76c81c11cea6e0737aad5f94ab119c - Temperature Regulation: One of the most remarkable qualities of Merino wool is its ability to regulate body temperature. Unlike synthetic materials, merino wool has excellent insulation properties, keeping you warm in cold conditions. It traps air within its fibers, providing natural insulation without adding bulk. At the same time, merino wool is highly breathable, allowing excess heat and moisture to escape when the temperature rises. This exceptional breathability prevents overheating and ensures comfort in warm weather, making Merino wool base layers suitable for year-round use.
- Moisture Management: Another standout feature of Merino wool is its superior moisture-wicking capabilities. Merino fibers can absorb moisture vapor without feeling wet or clammy, thanks to their hydrophilic nature. This unique property allows merino wool base layers to keep you dry by pulling sweat away from your skin and dispersing it across a larger surface area, where it can evaporate more easily. This moisture management system not only helps regulate body temperature but also prevents odors caused by bacterial growth, keeping you fresh and comfortable during extended activities.
- Softness and Comfort: Contrary to what one might expect, merino wool is incredibly soft and gentle against the skin. Unlike traditional wool, the fibers of merino wool are much finer and have a smaller diameter, making them feel luxurious and comfortable. The natural elasticity of merino wool ensures a snug fit without compromising freedom of movement. Merino base layers offer a next-to-skin softness that minimizes chafing and irritation, allowing you to focus on your outdoor adventures without discomfort.
- Odor Resistance: Merino wool possesses a natural ability to resist odors, making it a superior choice for base layers. The fibers contain lanolin, a waxy substance that naturally repels bacteria and odor-causing microbes. Unlike synthetic fabrics that tend to retain odors even after washing, merino wool base layers remain fresh and odor-free for extended periods. This means you can wear your Merino base layers multiple times before needing to wash them, making them ideal for long trips or multi-day activities where laundry facilities may be limited.
- All-Season Performance: One of the most compelling reasons to choose Merino wool base layers is their all-season performance. Whether it's the peak of winter or the height of summer, merino wool adjusts to the surrounding conditions, providing optimal comfort. In cold weather, the insulation and moisture-wicking properties keep you warm and dry, while in hot weather, the breathability and moisture management prevent overheating. Merino wool is nature's adaptive fabric, ensuring year-round comfort in various climates and activities.
Conclusion: When it comes to base layers, merino wool is the ultimate choice for year-round comfort. Its unique combination of temperature regulation, moisture management, softness, odor resistance, and all-season performance sets it apart from other fabrics. Whether you're skiing down a mountain, hiking a trail, or simply going about your daily activities, merino wool base layers provide the perfect balance of comfort and functionality. Invest in Merino wool, and experience the joy of year-round comfort in your outdoor pursuits. submitted by iksplor to u/iksplor [link] [comments] |
2023.06.08 16:14 Broken-Babe-2002 Nightmares?
So I know you're not supposed to interpret dreams but I had nightmares all night about demons or jinn and kept waking up terrified.
So weird stuff has been going on around my house, been seeing things, just weird stuff and this oppressive/heavy feeling. Last night I had nightmares about being chased by possessed people and the jinn talking to me and trying to trick me into doing stuff so he could get me.
I would wake up scared and crying (I'm an adult, haven't done that since I was a kid) and would calm down and go back to sleep only to keep dreaming about him.
I've been doing things i know I shouldn't do, not dressing modestly, not wearing my hijab, missing prayers, etc. I've been acting and behaving very "western" lately and I feel bad. I'm wondering if that has something to do with my nightmares or if there's else going on. I want to be a better Muslimah but I'm really struggling with it. As a revert I don't have any Muslim friends or a masjid nearby (45 minute drive one way). I feel like if I had a muslim support system who could help me make sure I'm doing everything right, and helping keep me on the right path.

2023.06.08 16:14 Adrced Potential OBD11 issue?
Hey guys, I have a 2021 Autobahn. And I was wondering if any of y'all have experienced this problem after doing some surface level changes with OBD11.
Changes were done with the apps, no ping coding: Easy enter and leave seat. Automatic doors locking when you leave the car with your keys. Lane centering. Ability to roll windows down with fob. Mirror fold down when reversing.
So what happened was I started the key with the fob. And when I got in and pressed the ignition. The car turned off. And would refuse to even turn the dash on. I couldnt use the infotainment nor could I see any gauges. I had replaced the fob key 2 months ago so its not that and they battery is good. I couldnt even get it in neutral or disengage the parking brake. (Watching the tow drag my car up the bed physically hurt).

2023.06.08 16:14 dhrisher Upright seating allowing more passengers on short plane flights would be great.
I am from Edinburgh and have taken short plane trips to London and Belfast. I would welcome having to stand in a supported way for the 1.5hr or 40min flight if I could get a wee bit of money off of the trip. There are people who regularly stand on public transport for the same or close to the same amount of time when commuting. Compared to standing on public transport, you would also more than likely be far more comfortable as the plane will be designed specifically for standing. In addition to cost saving there will also surely be a lesser environmental impact as less flights will be needed. It is important to note that I would think they should have some normal sit down seats for disabled passengers.

2023.06.08 16:13 CynthiaCMB Increasing Dose
I was in the hospital for a week with a COPD flare. I was quite anxious as my breathing was terrible. I’m anxious with just having COPD and how scary it is to be short of breath. I’m on oxygen 24/7.
While in the hospital, my pulmonologist requested a psych consult for my increased anxiety. Keep in mind I was on high dose steroids, breathing treatments with albuterol (gets me very anxious and jittery) and inhaled steroids. I’m still on the inhaler twice a day but off the other stuff. Trust me, steroids are the devil.
I started citalopram in September but got to 20mg in December. It was rough along the way. I switched to taking it after dinner and found it calmed and relaxed me. It also helps with sleep.
I’m tapering off the hell on Earth called mirtazapine as that pooped out on me months ago. I’m down to 5mg. I think it’s waking me up with a racing heart rate, burning skin and nausea every morning after 4 or 5 a.m. Others tapering have similar side effects like mine. Oh…and I gained 30 pounds!
Anyway, the kooky shrink wanted me to increase mirtazapine up to 30mg, increase citalopram to 40mg (double the dose all at once) and increase lorazepam to 4mg a day!! Ridiculous. I am tapering lorazepam from 4mg (down to 1.5mg/day) but holding while I get off mirtazapine.
I said no way!! I do think there’s room for improvement with citalopram so I’m increasing in increments of 5mg until I get to 30mg. I repeatedly told the doc the recommended dose for my age is 20mg but he just shrugged it off. I was on 30mg about 5 years ago and it was fine…..though I wasn’t struggling with COPD at that time.
So my question is, I’m more nauseous increasing 5mg. How long could I expect this to last? I’ve been at 25mg for three nights now.
Sorry for the novel.
