Help identify signature please!
Today I was lucky enough to buy some Darkness issues for cheap! But I have no idea whose signature this is. Any guesses? I added a picture of the credits, hopefully that helps.

2023.06.10 07:08 KatagatCunt Parents, if you can't control your children in the theater, don't bring them!

Pardon the rant
Took the famdam to the theater tonight to see the new Spider-Man, and there was a group of about 10 kids (at least) just running around the two isles they were in back and forth to their friends, yelling and laughing for ages. People were shushing them, two guys ended up getting up and leaving and getting a refund, and I at one point yelled over, "Can you please be quiet?!" They didn't even fucking stir over it.
Turns out that one of the parents were sitting directly behind them the entire time, and couldn't even control them, or calm them down. How annoying that you couldn't give a fuck about other people around you, hey. Apparently it was a birthday party, but that doesn't change a thing. For the first hour it was so fucking annoying and then they finally quieted down a bit.
Just....the world doesn't revolve around you and your goddamn. If you're going to go to a movie with younger kids and know they're going to be loud and you don't care, then go to one during the day earlier where it's expected to be a little more loud because of kids. And if you do decide to bring them during a later show, frickin take them out until they're calmed down/quieter!!
Thanks for coming to my (angry) Ted Talk.

2023.06.10 06:34 fishtailsplit Emotional Dysregulation + Perfectionism

Hi there.
This will be a bit of text, so
TLDR I've struggled all my life with ADHD, only recieved that diagnosis in the past couple years and have always been affected by quick bursts of unregulated rage in response to my perfectionism. I realized today that this emotional dysregulation has thrown a wrench in a lot of my relationships, regardless of how much progress I've made with it and make sure it's directed inward and not toward others. It quickly becomes to every friend or significant other incomprehensible, unforgivable and makes me unlovable in the long run. If you relate, let me know.
I'm not sure what percentage of people with ADHD expereince the emotional dysregulation symptom. However, my adult diagnosis of ADHD and realization of that symptom explained to me my entire life. The quick, extremely intense bursts of anger were something I always thought was a character flaw, or a trauma response that I really should have grown out of by now.
I grew up in a rather difficult home. Lots of shame and perfectionism filled the house for my whole childhood mainly because my parents suffered from it as well. However, it fostered an environment where almost everyone was competing against each other to be acknowledged as a legitamate person who was "good enough". We would do anything for this, including tearing each other down. This, of course, has affected every other area of my life, not just family. Constant feelings of inadequacy since I was young created this anger and hatred for myself. Back then, no one really knew I had ADHD, least of all me. I just thought I was stupid while my sisters were so smart. I would lose my keys or my wallet or my phone and my parents would yell and scream. So, I guess I decided that was the proper reaction to my flaws. And, in response to any mistake, large or small, any imperfection, I would go into a rage so quick and intense and unregulated. This drove me to begin self harming in high school. I only really realized this might be an issue in college when I found bruises on my head (I would hit my head in a 30min fit every morning if I felt I wasn't pretty or skinny or smart enough).
Since then, I've had loads of treatment and have made such significant improvements. Nowadays, a moment where I engage in self harm is quickly cut off and few and far between. However, I still experience that unregulated anger in reaction to an imperfection even if I'm able to disengage pretty quickly. Still. This symptom feels as if I am absolutely unlovable. I feel like not many typical, normal people see this as a symptom of any disorder but instead a serious character flaw. To others, I can be so kind and empathetic and charismatic in the right situation, masking so hard in order to be liked, to be enough. Yet, the second any person gets close enough to see a moment of that unregulated anger, regardless of how I try so hard to make sure it doesn't affect them, I feel like it's instantly weird to them, incomprehensible, and eventually, unforgivable. This trouble with anger was a big player in the end of my last relationship. He just didn't understand how I could feel so strongly about nothing. And, I don't blame anyone. Logically, it does not make sense that in response to seeing myself perform poorly in my favorite video game, I become violently angry at myself and quite honestly want to die for a couple minutes. Then I return to normal.
I get it. It's hard to relate to and understand. Even though I was relieved that my emotional dysregulation is explained by ADHD, I can't help but feel like absolute trash in the irony. In an effort to be loved, my reaction to imperfection, in return, makes me unlovable. It feels suffocating. Like I am constantly begging for forgivness and understanding. Regardless of how hard I try to heal, regardless that I didn't choose the anger or the perfectionism, there will always be that piece of my self that just so undesireable.
I don't know why I'm here. Maybe processing and understanding. I'm desperate for someone to get it, I guess If you actually read all that nonsense, thank you, truly. Let me know if there's anyone out there who has experienced the same emotional dysregulation and the negative effect it has on...everything.

2023.06.10 06:30 thatrandomghost Sister has normalized her abusive marriage

My sister (34F) has been married for 7 years and has a kid that just turned 4. Right from the beginning of the wedding we all knew this was going to be a sinking ship, but she has always been somewhat delusional about "making it all work" through her efforts. It just didn't make sense to me how she alone would do all of this and simply not just get out. She hoped things would get better, I warned her right at the beginning that it won't. he still went ahead into the marriage. This is the first love of her life. I hate seeing her shrinking like this. The husband and the in-laws are extremely unsupportive, nitpicky, manipulative, and jealous. Whenever any solution to these problems is discussed, I have mentioned divorce multiple times directly and indirectly, but every time I've been shut down because "I'm too young" (I'm 23) to understand the complexities and consequences of such a big decision.
That family absolutely has no sense of morals and are shameless in exploiting her. My sis used to be a professor in an engg college and is now a homemaker. Every now and then, the in-laws situation escalates to frequent shouting matches and wolf crying about how she is "manipulating" them, not taking care of her son and what not. She STILL believes the situation will get better and refuses to leave as much as I request her or threaten her. I don't even want to start with the things she has been accused of, just typing this post is boiling my blood. After each interaction my parents make which gives me hope is the "ultimate conversation", it again gets back to as if nothing happened. We still exchanges pleasantries with that family and that nauseates me to the core.
I feel angry for being the only person wanting this. I also feel angry on behalf of her tolerating all this bullshit, and I'm sick of being helpless for so long. I can't change anything, but I also hate watching her like this. Yesterday my parents went to her in-laws' place and a massive argument ensued. This has happened for a while now but every time, it "calms down." The situation gets buried under the rug and it pisses me off to no end. It just goes on and gets progressively worse.
I know you guys will definitely suggest divorce and I agree with that. But I don't really know what to do when the person HERSELF is reluctant to do it.

2023.06.10 06:11 docdoc5 RPDR Randomized Era 4: Season 10, Episode 4 (The Last Ball on Earth)

The queens walk back into the werkroom after Akashia's elimination.

Processing img e8rq6hr8834b1...
Orion talks about entering the werkroom and how the tension between Robbie and Rock can be felt after their disagreement in the previous Untucked.

The queens then all gather around and Akashia's mirror message as Elliott reads it to the group before cleaning the mirror. Jan mentions to Elliott that she thinks she did a really great job in the lip sync to which Elliott mentions that she really thought that it should've been Rock up for elimination and not her. Elliott goes on to say that she felt that Rock was a weaker team leader and that should've accounted for something. Robbie jumps in again to mention that she said all that she needed to say to Rock in Untucked but the fact remains that the judges loved her idea and that if Rock stepped it up more that their ad would've been successful. Rock rolls her eyes before walking away saying that she is more than ready to send them all home.
In her confessional, Monica laughs and says that she hopes the other girls continue being distracted by one another and take each other out.

The queens start to separate and go through their de-dragging processes. Jade shares with Kerri and Monica how she really wants to land in the top for a challenge this coming week but it seems the judges haven't been featuring her so far. Monica tells her that her only goal is to continue to show the growth from her earlier season so that she can show that she is ready for the crown. Kerri agrees and tells Jade that she should focus on doing her best and showing the judges a range of talents and that will take her to the end.

The queens reenter the werkroom and talk about what they think will be coming their way.
In her confessional, Kandy talks about how she thinks its still too early to call a front runner and that makes her want to win a challenge even more.

The queens all gather around the table and discuss the challenges so far. Kerri points out that each of the challenges have been won by different queens: Orion, Marcia, and Jaymes and goes on to say that she will be adding her name to the list with the coming week. Kandy then asks the group if there was anyone else that could've won the last challenge and what people's thoughts are about that. Jaymes mentions that she really thought that Robbie did a good job and we see Rock roll her eyes about this. Just then they then hear the siren announcing their RuMail.

Following Ru's message, RuPaul enters the werkroom.

Processing img x489dxb2834b1...
Ru tells the girls about the mini challenge. She explains that the queens will need to perfect the art of the celebrity photobomb! Ru goes on to say that the girls will get into quick drag and insert themselves into famous shots. She then sends the queens to get into quick drag. One by one the queens all arrive for their photoshoots. Each of them are shown in their ridiculous quick drag posing in scenarios. After all the queens have performed Ru announces that the winner of the mini challenge is...
Kerri Colby!

Following this, RuPaul tells the queens about their next maxi challenge. She talks about how climate change is impacting the ice caps and what they will do is throw a ball! Ru tells them that they will be competing in The Last Ball on Earth! Ru tells them that they will need to serve three looks:

- Alaskan Winter Realness a fun in the sun look
- Miami Summer Realness something furry to combat the freezing temperatures
- Martian Eleganza Extravaganza a glamour couture look that will slay on their new home planet!
Jan talks about how exciting it is to have the ball happening so early in the competition and that she hopes it is a chance to really show what she has to offer.

Ru then leaves the teams to start preparing for their runway presentations.

When Ru leaves the werkroom, the queens all gather their materials for their constructed look and begin creating their garments.

We see Kandy and Kerri working at a station near each other as they begin making their looks. Kerri talks to Kandy about how she knows she is going to look great but that she really wants to wow the judges with the look that she creates. She explains to Kandy the look that she has planned and Kandy asks her how she is going to bring space into it. Kerri gets a little stumbled up with this question and it makes Kandy crack up. Kandy warns her that she doesn't want Kerri to go home and that she thinks she should make sure that she is making something that fits the brief.
In her confessional, Kerri talks about how she knows that there is some truth to what Kandy is saying but that she still feels like she should play to her strengths and do what would look good on her.

On the other side of the werkroom, we see Monica chatting with Jan as they work on their constructions. Jan shares with Monica her concerns with her safe placements each week. She tells Monica that she knows that it is still early on in the competition but that she really wants to impress with what she is creating this week. Monica tells her that this is what is the hardest part of the competition, because all the girls are gunning for the attention of the judges and they will only hone in on one of them.

Rock is shown feverishly working on her look on her own. We see many of the queens looking on when she continues to add more and more accessories to the look.
Marcia mentions that she can't help but cringe while she watches because it's almost like she wants her look to get worse with each thing she adds to it.

Orion tries to talk to Rock to give her feedback about how her look is turning out. Rock doubles down and says that she thinks it really speaks to the theme of the category and that she wants the look to be out of this world. Orion looks worried but allows Rock to continue down her path.

Just then, Ru re-enters the werkroom for her walkthroughs with the queens. She is shown talking with Elliott, Robbie, Jaymes, and Jade in direct conversations. In her conversation with Elliott, Ru brings up how her previous construction went over well. She adds that Elliott was just in the bottom two and asks if Elliott feels that will impact her performance with this challenge. Elliott shares that she feels good going into this challenge because she knows that she can create a cohesive look and has some good ideas for where to go with her Martian look.
In her confessional, Elliott shares that she thinks if the other queens are counting her out just because she was in the bottom two last week that they will be making a mistake.

Ru then moves on to chat with Robbie about the upcoming challenge. Robbie shows her where she is so far with her design and Ru is unimpressed. Ru goes on to tell her that the other girls are going to be gunning for the top spot in each of the challenges and that she thinks that what Robbie is doing isn't something that will stand out and that she really wants her to put her best foot forward with the challenge. Ru leaves her by stating that her last construction challenge landed her in the bottom three and that she really wants to see growth from that challenge in regard to what she does with this ball. Robbie tells her that she is going to take that into account and really not hold anything back.

Ru moves on to chat with Jaymes. In their conversation, Ru revisits her great performance in the previous challenge and asks Jaymes if she feels any pressure to keep up the momentum. Jaymes jokes about how she is in a constant state of fight or flight and goes on to joke around and makes Ru cackle. Jaymes then mentions that she has always created looks for herself so she feels like she can do something really strong with this challenge and shares some of her ideas with Ru. Ru tells her that she is really looking forward to seeing what more Jaymes will do, especially in this challenge.

Ru is finally shown chatting with Jade about this challenge. Ru tells Jade that she hasn't been in the top so far and asks her what she plans to do with this challenge to change that. Jade tells her that it is something that she has been thinking about and that she knows it is still early in the competition but that she is planning to really wow the judges this week. Ru asks her specifically how she plans to do this, to which Jade doesn't really have an answer. Ru tells her that she wants her to not get too in her head and that when she realized how talented she is then everything else will fall into place.
In her confessional, Jade mentions that she can't help but really focus on slaying the challenge and that she won't apologize for that.

As the queens are getting ready for the main stage presentations, Robbie and Rock have another disagreement after Kandy asks the group how they all feel about the looks that they have created. Robbie mentions that there is a clear look where a queen doesn't understand the need to edit and makes eyes over towards Rock. When Rock responds, Robbie just mentions that she is being real and telling her what everyone else is thinking.

RuPaul takes to the runway and welcomes everyone to the main stage and introduces the guest judges Logan Browning and Tisha Campbell-Martin. She explains that for this week's challenge the queens were tasked with turning out three looks for the Last Ball on Earth!
The queens all begin their runway presentation with their Alaskan Winter looks. We see a lot of body looks with the queens as they show off their swimsuits. We see particularly strong looks in this category from Kandy, Monica, Kerri, Jaymes, and Orion.

The queens then turn the corners in their Miami Summer looks. The queens all bundle up with their furry winter-themed looks. We see particularly strong looks from Monica, Jan, Kerri, Jaymes, and Orion.

The queens all walk the runway in their galactic-inspired constructed looks.
RuPaul announces that Kandy Muse, Marcia Marcia Marcia, Jan, Kerri Colby and Elliott with 2 Ts are all safe and that they may return backstage to untuck.

The critiques then begin.
Michelle starts with Monica and tells her that she really stepped up this week. She tells her that unlike the other queens she felt that she had some of the biggest makeup changes with her looks and that each of her looks were well fitted and proved her strong taste level. Logan Browning agrees and tells her that she thinks she is so pretty to look at and that she loved watching what she did on the runway.

Ross moves on to Rock and tells her that he had higher hopes for what she was going to bring to the runway. He tells her that she is such an imaginative queen but that each of her looks were too predictable and none of them were actually well fitted. He goes on to add that her final look seemed to be all over the place and needed to be edited. Logan Browning tells her that she was confused with her final look because she didn't see it as Martian and that there were just too many pieces to it.

Michelle then talks to Jaymes and tells her she was her favorite of the night. She tells her that she can tell that Jaymes gets deep into character when she hits the runway and she connected with the characters that she displayed on top of the fact that the looks were all homeruns. Tisha Campbell-Martin agrees and adds that she thinks that she knows who she is as a queen and definitely knows how to portray it through a look and that she loved everything she did on the runway.

Ross then talks with Robbie and tells her that she wasn't at the top of her game with this challenge. He adds that her constructed look was a safe thought that wasn't even well made. Logan Browning tells her that she had an issue with the wigs that she chose to wear. She gives her feedback to think about her look from the heel of her shoe all the way to the wig she puts on her head.

Ross tells Orion that he loves the way she styles her looks and that the other girls should take note of this. He tells her that each of her runway looks are a story and that all he wants to do is read it. Tisha Campbell-Martin gushes over how beautiful she thinks Orion is. She goes on to tell her that she couldn't take her eyes off of her and that she thinks that the look she made was so well tailored that it almost looks bought.

Michelle ends the critiques with Jade and tells her she really wanted to enjoy her runways but that there was a something missing from each of them. She goes on to say that she doesn't want her to fade into the background but that she just didn't stack up to her competitors this week for her. Tisha Campbell-Martin tells her that she agrees with Michelle in that she didn't find Jade to be particularly memorable and that if she wants to be a superstar she is going to have to wear her talent on her sleeve and that she didn't see her doing that tonight.

Ru then sends the queens to the back while the judges deliberate.
The queens return from untucking backstage.

RuPaul then goes on to announce her decisions.

She announces that....

Processing img qcoi56rh524b1...
Jaymes Mansfield is the winner of the challenge!

Processing img 9npyb9yg524b1...
Jaymes celebrates her win and goes on to say that she hopes the other queens start to realize that she is a threat and that they should take her seriously.

RuPaul tells Monica and Orion that they both did a great job as well and that all three queens can step to the back.

She then speaks to Rock, Jade and Robbie.

She announces that Jade is safe. She thanks the judges and walks to the back to join the other queens.

Robbie Turner and Rock M Sakura are in the bottom two and up for elimination. Both queens look determinedly towards the judges.

Processing img 52dazy6b524b1...

Processing img 97sox1k7524b1...
Rock mentions that she is devastated she is up for elimination but that if there was anyone that she wanted to send home it would be Robbie.

Processing img hwjdq2k6524b1...
Robbie states that it is likely karma that brought her to be up against Rock in this lip sync but that won't end well for Rock because she isn't going anywhere.

RuPaul announces that the time has come for them to lip sync for their lives. They had to prepare a lip-sync performance to the song Pound the Alarm by Nicki Minaj.

Good luck and don't FUCK it up!

The lip-sync is entertaining. Both queens put their frustrations with one another into their performance and really turn up the heat. Rock goes between being comedic in her performance to being sexy and fierce. Robbie builds with the energy of the song and gets a lot of laughs from her interpretation of the song. Rock's garment is shedding pieces all over the stage and Robbie uses it as a gag in her performance.

The lip sync ends and RuPaul announces...

Robbie Turner... shantay you stay

Rock M Sakura... sashay away

The queens clap for Rock as she departs the main stage and delivers her exit line.

10 Queens Remain...

2023.06.10 05:55 Flat_Newspaper4466 7 pricing strategies to help travel and tourism businesses increase tour bookings

Why is pricing strategy important?

Pricing strategy is an extremely important factor in business management, whether it is a travel business or any other field because it directly affects profits, revenue, competitiveness as well as image. brand image and the relationship between the brand and its customers.
Create a competitive advantage
As mentioned at the beginning, along with service quality, price is an important factor to help travel businesses compete with competitors. Simply because price is an aspect that most customers consider very carefully before making a purchase decision. A reasonable pricing strategy will help your business attract customers from competitors and increase sales opportunities.
Profit Optimization
By determining the optimal price, you can ensure that the revenue from the sale of tours and accompanying services will be maximized, and with it a reasonable profit. As such, the right pricing strategy can help optimize profits.
The right pricing strategy can help optimize profits. By determining the optimal price, you can ensure that revenue is maximized, while maintaining a reasonable level of profit.
Expense management
In the pricing strategy, we need to determine the exact cost of the product/service to ensure that the product sold will match the cost of production and other related factors. This activity helps you to manage costs as well as increase business efficiency.
Brand Positioning
Price is one of the top aspects that customers care about when buying your tour. That means price can impact your brand image as well as your brand position in the eyes of customers. From the pricing strategy, customers will perceive your brand as a popular, low-priced brand or a high-end, expensive brand. Of course, each segment will have its own advantages. Most importantly, you need a suitable pricing strategy to target the right customer segments. If you are targeting the high-end customer segment but the pricing strategy is not reasonable, inadvertently causing customers to position your brand as a low-end brand, then you are likely to fail in the smokeless market. this competition.
Responding to market fluctuations
Markets can change quickly, especially during the current economic crisis. A reasonable, flexible pricing strategy can help travel businesses quickly adapt to unexpected fluctuations. By adjusting prices to meet market demand, you can stay competitive and keep your market share.
Satisfy customer needs
Pricing strategies can help you meet customer needs. This can include offering pricing options that are tailored to different types of customers, from high-value customers to price-sensitive customers. By offering consistent pricing, you can create a convenient buying environment and increase your market reach.

Minimum requirements of a pricing strategy

Before starting any pricing strategy, you need to make sure that it meets two important things:

7 pricing strategies for tour operators

There are many different pricing strategies in tourism that tour operators can choose from. Here are 7 of the most popular tour costing strategies for growing businesses in the travel industry.
Markup Pricing Strategy
"Markup tour pricing strategy" is a pricing strategy in the travel industry. In this strategy, a specific amount is added to the original cost to create the selling price for the tour. Markup is the amount added to the original price to cover the elements. Various factors are included, such as profits, operating costs, advertising costs, or other unspecified factors. Mark-up pricing strategies are often used to ensure that travel businesses are profitable enough to stay afloat and provide quality service to customers. In simpler words, with the Mark-up pricing strategy, your prices are set such that each booked tour generates a profit.
For example, if the original cost of a tour is $100 and the markup strategy is 20%, the selling price to the customer would be $120 ($100 + 20% markup). However, markup rates can vary depending on many factors, such as the level of competition in the industry, the level of customer requirements, or the profit goals of the business.
The Mark Up pricing strategy is an easy way to ensure that you make a good profit on every tour booked, but it can make it difficult to stay competitive in a dependent market. much on tourism. On the other hand, this strategy requires you, as an administrator at the Travel Business, to identify and understand all costs associated with the tour.
Mark-down pricing strategy
Mark-down pricing strategy is another option for tourism business managers to consider. With this tour pricing strategy, you set tour prices lower to boost your business, create buzz, and eliminate your competition.
However, you still need to consider the costs associated with each tour, as you don't want your discounted pricing strategy to force you to lose money on each booking. Determine all costs involved in developing and operating the tour before making a bid.
With a discount pricing strategy, you will earn less profit per booking but potentially earn more bookings per tour. This is a great option during low tourist season. Instead of charging VND 200,000 per person for a bus tour within Hanoi, charge VND 150,000. You may not make a lot of revenue, but in return, your tour bus will be filled even if there are fewer tourists in the area at the time.
Tour Packages
Tour packages are a great way to simplify your trip, providing travelers with a comfortable experience that meets all of their needs. They are also a great way for businesses to relieve stress by promoting a unique selling point that speaks to their customer base. Travel packages allow you to partner with like-minded business owners. aim to cater to niche markets or provide a more convenient experience for your customers.
These types of partnerships in the tourism industry may involve reaching out to local restaurants, hotels, or other travel and activity providers with a shared goal of providing services. Businesses can use tour packages to provide a valuable experience to their customers at a lower price, through disguised pricing, or only disclosing a total cost, or visible pricing, price analysis by type of cost.
Seasonal pricing
It is an indisputable fact that the tourism industry is always seasonal, which means it is extremely seasonal. Some businesses will be hit harder than others when the tourist season peaks in Their area is quiet, but you can be proactive in many ways when it comes to attracting tourists in low season. One way to achieve this is through seasonal pricing.
Seasonal tour pricing means businesses can offer discounts during off-season to attract more customers. This can help ensure a steady stream of customers year-round. However, adopting seasonal pricing requires more forethought than just discounting when the quiet months come. Your seasonal pricing strategy will be largely informed by your peak season profitability and how you can channel those profits to cover your off-season operating expenses. . This means that seasonal prices are largely fixed and will not change throughout the year.
Discount (Discounting)
First of all, it should be noted that discounting is not the same as a Markdown strategy. When travel businesses offer discounts, they are offering lower prices for special occasions or no special occasions at all, they simply want to promote purchases.
Discounting is an effective strategy in terms of pricing to manage profits. However, the faster things work, the more likely they are to cause harm, like a double-edged sword. The way in which your business uses discounts must be carefully considered to ensure that it does not lead to a reduction in profits.
Last-minute pricing
Last-minute pricing is a great idea to collect last-minute bookings and fill those gaps in your tours. By offering last minute deals online or in person, businesses can quickly increase their numbers to help reach their capacity and generate profits.
Dynamic pricing
When it comes to choosing a pricing strategy, don't think we can only choose one. Your business can choose any of the above tactics based on demand and market. You can even combine multiple pricing strategies to develop a completely unique strategy that better supports your business model.

2023.06.10 05:38 stayclassypeople 1985-86 Bowl Season

I'm analyzing every bowl season from 1974-1997. Check out the link below for prior seasons.

Team Record AP Coaches
Penn State 11-0 1 (47) 1 (36)
Miami 10-1 2 (3) 4
Oklahoma 10-1 3 (5) 2 (1)
Iowa 10-1 4 (3) 3

Important Games

#1 overall Penn State entered the bowl season as the only unbeaten, which gave them the inside track to claim a 2nd consensus national title in 5 years. The Orange Bowl quickly snatched them up to create a de facto national title game vs Big 8 Champ Oklahoma, who was #2 in the Coaches Poll. One problem, Miami, who beat the Sooners head to head, was ranked ahead of the Sooners at #2 in the AP Poll. This created the potential for a split national title. If Oklahoma won the Orange and Miami won the Sugar against SEC 'champ* Tennessee, its more than likely the AP would have awarded the national title to Miami, and the Coaches to Oklahoma. Also, because of the Orange Bowl match up, #4/3 Big Ten champion Iowa's National title hopes were slim to none.

Rose Bowl #4/3 Iowa vs #13 UCLA (January 1st, 4:30PM EST)
In all reality, Iowa was probably playing for, at best, 2nd in both polls, which would match their highest final ranking ever at #2 in 1958. Maybe just maybe, a route of UCLA would give them some first love too? Unfortunately, Iowa would end up participating in a decade plus time honored tradition of Big Ten teams losing to lower ranked Pac 10 teams. The game was tied at 10 mid 2nd, when UCLA scored two unanswered TDs to lead 24-10 at the half. The Hawkeyes would get within 7 in the 3rd quarter, but UCLA's offense was too much as the Bruins would go onto win 45-28.

Sugar Bowl #2/4 Miami vs #8 Tennessee (January 1st, 8PM EST)
Despite getting little love from the AP, a #1 rank in the Coaches poll and a split national title was very much on the table for Miami. This would still mean a 2nd championship season in 3 years for the burgeoning dynasty. Their opponent was Tennessee, who also suffered its only defeat (not counting 2 ties) at the hands of Florida. Although this game was the same time as the Orange, it was pretty obvious that Penn St and Oklahoma were playing for a national title by the 3rd quarter. Tennessee spotted Miami 7 in the first but scored 14 apiece in the 2nd and 3rd to go up 28-7, before cruising to a 35-7 win.
Orange Bowl #1 Penn State vs #3/2 Oklahoma
Penn State knew a consensus national title was on the line, while Oklahoma knew a win meant at least a split for them with Miami. The Nittany Lions drew first blood with an early first quarter TD. The 2nd quarter was dominated by the Sooners who scored 16 unanswered thanks to 3 field goals and a 71 yard TD pass to lead 16-7. Penn St managed to get it back to 16-10 with a late field goal to make it 16-10 at the half. Entering the 4th quarter, up 9, the fans likely knew how the Sugar bowl was going and that their Sooners were in the drivers seat for a consensus natty. The defense led by Brian Bosworth pitched a 2nd half shutout and the offense iced the game with a long TD run in the 4th to win 25-10. By the time the clock ticked to 0 the Sooner players would also know that a consensus championship was there's. Also, Oklahoma's place kicker was named the game's co-MVP. A kicker winning MVP in a title game? How neat is that?!

Final Results

Team Record AP Coaches
Oklahoma 11-1 1 (55) 1 (41)
Michigan 10-1-1 2 (1) 2
Penn St 11-1 3 3
Tennessee 9-1-2 4 4 (1)
Of course there has to be contrarians, as 1 voter in each Poll had a different #1, but the Sooners were an overwhelming, if not easy choice for #1, which would make it their 6th overall national title and 3rd for head coach Barry Switzer. I imagine both Tennessee and Michigan, like many others before them, lamented the fact that overtime did not yet exist since, since their ties likely cost them any real shot at a title.

2023.06.10 05:33 Turing45 Prostate Problems

There are many inconsistencies about my upbringing. I was born in the late 60's, and was labeled by my parents as a "Difficult child". I have been regaled with tales about how I was always soo angry, destroying cribs, banging my head and generally being challenging. I also had some medical issues that I never really got straight answers for, such as why I supposedly had leg and hip problems that had me walking late.
I was always a "Tomboy" refusing to wear dresses, aggressive and always getting mistaken for a boy, to the point my parents bought me a t-shirt to wear that said,"Im a girl", which they found hysterical.
Fast forward a decade or so and I am hyper-sexual, aggressive and literally living on the edge of self destruction. I have to shave a couple of times a day to keep from looking like Sasquatch, and I just dont know how to be. Im engaging in high risk behaviors and then end up pregnant. I was confused and very sick the entire time, developed Toxemia and nearly died. Having her ripped me terribly and dislocated both hips and broke my tailbone. We did not bond and she ended up being adopted by my parents. The doctor at the time advised me to seek "Further evaluation" for all my issues, but as I was a broke, on state insurance, college kid, nothing was done.
Life went on and as I aged, and had other kids, I suffered the same issues(but did end up raising my other children), and then spend over a decade on disability. When I was in my 40's I moved to a very progressive area and made friends who were in the LGBTQ community and they told me to investigate if I was "Trans". I met with a doctor, had evaluations and began what was transition for me. I stopped shaving and in less than a month I had more body hair that most men, and a start on a full beard. I was almost not given testosterone because my normal levels were over 600. I had excess breast tissue removed, and considered having bottom surgery, but was concerned about incontinence and loss of sensation.
Ive identified as a gay man for over a decade now and I have passed fully for almost the entire decade. I had begun having what I thought was a UTI, and after treatment was unsuccessful, my boyfriend insisted I see my doctor because he said I had all the symptoms of "Prostatitus". I pooh poohed him because I didnt think I could have a prostate as I assumed I was just trans. He insisted he felt a prostate when we were intimate, so I went to the doctor and let him check.
Yeah...I have a prostate and its currently enlarged and now im on a medication for it. I confronted my mom over the phone about it and what may have been done to me as an infant and all she said was, "The effects of Agent Orange on families have been really extensive and created a lot of challenges". Then she went on rambling about my sibling, (normal), so I figured I wasnt going to get anymore information. I was told when I was younger that I had been "Indeterminate" and that my birth certificate had to be "Corrected". Apparently, I was surgically altered so they could raise me female. Adding to all the confusion for me was that I was told years ago I couldn't be intersex because,"All intersex are sterile."
Im glad there is soo much more information and opportunity out there for the younger generation to be able to figure themselves out. I cannot tell you how many decades went by where I hated myself and wanted to die to ease the pain and confusion. Finding out I have a prostate(even if its currently problematic), was a freeing type of vindication, though I mourn for my lost cock(had almost no growth on what was left), and all the lost opportunities along the way.

2023.06.10 05:28 wonderwoman095 I have a masters degree in a field I'm not sure I can sustainably be in until I retire. Do I make a career change, or do I try to stick it out?

I thought I would come here because I've been having a bit of a crisis, and I don't know what to do.
I have a masters degree (and over $100,000 in student loan debt) in a field I don't think I can keep doing for the next few decades. I'm a school counselor, I graduated just last year with my masters degree. I got a job in the field and honestly I'm at my wits end with it. It might just be the school that I'm in, but it's a constant drain on my mental health. I have angry, yelling parents directing anger at me for mistakes that I have nothing to do with, and I don't have the time for the most part to actually talk to the kids. I love working with and helping kids which is why I went into the career, but not being able to do that as often as I like along with having to deal with irate parents is a drain on my mental health. When I am able to do the work I thought I was going to to I'm told that I'm good at it, but being good at it and being able to handle the pressures associated with it are two different things. There have been days where I just cry after work, this just isn't sustainable. When I was in undergrad I got my degree in social work, and while I like helping people even then I was worried that the field would be a drain on my mental health. Counseling and social work both are very heavy in emotional labor. I went with it anyways, hoping it would get better with time and therapy.
I had wanted to major in history since I love to research and I study it in my spare time just for fun. I was told back then that it wasn't a good major to have because "what would you even do with a history degree anyways, all you could do is teach." I would love to work in historical preservation, genealogy, or public history. I keep going back to it and wondering if maybe I should make a career change, see if working in history would be better for me. The issue is that I have a bachelors and a masters in something totally unrelated, I don't know that anyone would actually hire me. Or at least, if they did it probably wouldn't be at a salary high enough I could pay my loans, because it would be an entry level job since I don't have a history degree. I would have to go back to school, and add more debt that I will never get out of.
I just don't know what to do, I feel like my current career isn't sustainable for me, but the career I wish I had gone to probably wouldn't take me. Do I go back to school and add that debt or do I try to stick it out in my current career? Everyone around me keep encouraging me to stick with it, but I don't want to end up as someone who is eventually hates my job so much I'm not actually helping kids that need help. I don't want to be that mean, old school counselor that no one likes.
I know that no one can tell me for sure what to do, but does anyone have any insight? Information on going back to school or changing your career to something totally different? Or maybe some advice on how to stick with a career you're not sure is a good fit for your personal life?

2023.06.10 05:21 TheDarkstarChimaera Thief in the June 27 Balance Patch

I'm Iskarel. I maintain the PvE Thief builds and guides on Snow Crows
With a PvE perspective, I'm going to run through the changes, discuss their impact, and talk about current meta builds and how they're impacted.
Want the build-by-build cliff notes? Skip to the bottom, search for "tl;dr"
I know this is a lot. Think of it as a reference document.
A LOT has changed. The builds aren't unrecognizable but the texture has changed almost across the board.

Flanking is Dead (for most endgame bosse)

To make them more reliable in endgame PvE content, all effects that benefit when the player strikes from the flank or from behind now always apply their benefits when striking defiant foes.
Not all players know that "flanking" or "from behind or the sides" just means—don't be in front of the target.
Ever used a build with Thief runes? Just don't stand directly in front of the target.
What fewer players will know is that there's a small set of skills that actually need you to be ~180-degrees behind your target.
Which way does Keep Construct face when it descends back to the arena after the orb-rift-push phase?
Which way does Sabetha face during her Flame Wall?
I'm not going to answer these questions because the answers don't matter anymore! This skill expression is now gone.
Just backstab from any angle.
Ah but "defiant foes"? What isn't included there?
Can you backstab Primordus in the Harvest Temple strike if your group stays on the left vs right side, when looking from the center towards the dragon?
You would have to be on the right side. The left is the dragon's face.
Which way does Conjured Amalgamate face?
When approaching CA's platform, it is facing to your right. This also applies to the hands. Stand on the left side of the platform, and "above" the hands (closer to the portal leading away from this encounter).
Which way do the hands on Adina face?
2 o'clock (north), 5 o'clock (northwest), 7 o'clock (south), 10 o'clock (southeast)
No, I don't know why.
Just use your rifle and pierce two hands with Spotter's Shot + Death's Judgment! That's better than remembering these facing positions.
These are non-defiant "prop" type enemies. Also included here is Drakkar, the Octovine, and Tequatl. IIRC.
BTW Drakkar is made up 17 prop pieces, and you can only cast Deadeye's Mark on one of them. Don't play Deadeye here, you're trolling yourself. :D

Acrobatics Mental Gymnastics

Yeah this ain't it, chief. This is still a defensive and mobility-oriented traitline.
The damage modifier in Endless Stamina can't compete with Deadly Arts or Critical Strikes, even when combined with the Power in Swinder's Equilibrium.
The other stuff is maybe interesting for solo open world champions but Shadow Arts is already quite capable at that, and Condition Thief has a lot more toys to work with when solo compared to Power.
It's something but this traitline still feels ironically directionless.

Improvisational Theater of War

Improvisation: This trait now reduces the cooldowns of all utility skills by a certain percentage when you steal, instead of recharging a random skill.
Previously: this trait would randomly reset one of your utility skills, with a cooldown on the effect. If it chose a skill already on cooldown, it would have no effect. It could not reset the cooldown of an un-triggered but prepared Preparation.
Interesting! We can now use this trait predictably, resetting the cooldown of all our utility skills. On the surface that's good because it means we'll always get value out of the reset...unless our skill uses are staggered. More on that later.

Mag Bomb Delenda Est.

Currently this skill's damage-per-cast-time is roughly double that of Daredevil Staff 2, Weakening Charge. Notably, the cast time is short because it pulses damage.
The coefficient we have on the wiki, drawn from the Game's API, is 4.10. ANet lists a 1.50 (per hit, so 4.50 total) nerfed to 0.70. So... Uh...
Let's say Throw Magnetic Bomb's damage is nerfed to 50% of its current damage. Or there about.
So next patch, one Throw Magnetic Bomb is close to the damage of one Staff 2, but the damage comes out over time (during our Assassin Signet burst) and the cast animation is faster than Staff 2.
But is it worth losing Executioner?
Probably not. Executioner is approximately 9.52% damage on a fight that spends 50% of its time above 50% target HP and 50% of time below (due to Ferocious Strikes).
That's a lot of damage to be made up by another use of a stolen skill!

Daredevil's Bound to be Good

Bound: Increased power coefficient from 1.75 to 3.5
This ratchets up the damage of our dodge so that it beats the damage-per-cast-time of Punishing Strikes (skill 1 part C) and Staff 5, while still losing to Staff Strike and Staff Bash (skill 1 parts A/B), Staff 2, and Fist Flurry/Palm Strike.
This damage increase is valuable because

Auto chain go brrrr

Staff Strike, Staff Bash: Increased power coefficient.
... Uh oh.
This increase the DPS of the first and second part of the chain well beyond the last hit.
The optimal DPS rotation now involves interrupting the chain after the 2nd hit.
That's not easy to do on most professions, which have a limited number of viable interrupts, but we're Thief, baby!
Staff Strike, Staff Bash, Weakening Charge. Repeat. Throw in a Fist Flurry. Save your Palm Strike. Yeah. This sort of thing.
Calculations done by REMagic42 ( training-accident-36 ) show the following
A not insignificant DPS increase provided by this (unintended?) balance predicament.
You could just not do this. That's up to you. The build is getting buffed by ~4,000 DPS next patch but it still has all the old problems. Don't know those? Read here

Let's Get Physical (Lights out, follow the noise)

Various Physical Skill cooldown reductions
These are neat and strictly a positive.
Left, a great player who provides benchmarks for Power and Condition Daredevil, already tested Condition Daredevil with cooldown-traited Impairing Daggers and found them simply worse in group content vs Devourer Venom. You can read more on his benchmark.
So the Impairing Daggers cooldown reduction (CDR) doesn't matter to us.
A cooldown reduction for Channeled Vigor would've been cool!
This skill basically gives you a get-out-of-jail-free dodge if you're ever scared that burning all your dodges for Havoc Specialist will leave you vulnerable. You can get a dodge with Withdraw on a shorter cooldown but that travels backwards from your facing direction which can be scary.
This skill is also very useful for maintaining Lotus Training uptime when playing Condition Daredevil. If you can't keep hitting the boss with your auto-attack chain and F1 Steal, you will run out of endurance and lose your condition damage buff. Use Channeled Vigor to maintain buff uptime when you can't hit the boss. (This tip comes from Left!)
Impact Strike is still worse defiance-bar to cooldown ratio vs Basilisk Venom, but any improvement is nice. This skill is good when you can't guarantee all hits of Basilisk Venom will hit your target, or when you need to CC more frequently than Basilisk's cooldown allows.

Death-onate Plasma and "Boon Thief"

Farewell, Boon Thief. Without Quickness, we can no longer role-compress all those shiny boons in Plasma into a Quickness Build.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that the damage of Detonate Plasma will not be worth its cast time purely from a DPS perspective, especially on a Condition Build, but you might still get some boon uptime from Daredevils on fights like Matthias and Twin Largos' Kenut.
You can now permanently sunset your Celestial/Ritualist gear for Boon Thief. Will you use it for Alacrity Specter later? I don't now, I don't know how much Alacrity is given by that trait. We'll talk more later. :)

Also Icebrood Saga exists

These really don't matter. Unstable Reagent is maybe a DPS increase, I don't have a log with it for cast time.
This is NOT Unstable Artifact BTW. That skill is still worth using for both Power and Condition DPS.
Cursed Artifact is like throw-Plaguelands, and an Ethereal field at that. It's free real estate on the Condition Build.
Time in a Bottle is squad-wide alacrity AND quickness. Take that, Chronomancer! It's only found in Cold War and randomly in EoD strikes. :)

Deadeye Stolen Skill splash support

Stolen Skills now grant their beneficial effects around the caster.
These are mostly "splash" uptimes of boons, but you can also get superspeed and a modest heal. Neat! Deadeye providing a token amount of squad value beyond its DPS and CC output.

Deadeye Malicious Intent buff

Malicious Intent: Increased Malice gain from 1 to 2 in PvE only
This is actually big!
Firstly, this increases the damage dealt by the lower difficulty Be Quick or Be Killed Dagger Deadeye rotation (if you've ever heard someone described Dagger Deadeye as 5111151115111, that's this).
1 more Malice pip after each Mark and Stealth attack boost the damage modifier of Malicious Backstab. I don't have a quick estimate for this increase yet.
Secondly, this is wonderful for the Dagger-Dagger Maleficent Seven rotation.
All Power Dagger skills (Heartseeker, Dancing Dagger, Cloak & Dagger) are single-damage packet skills (with the exception of Dancing Dagger when bounced from your main target, to another enemy, and back to your main target). This means they have only one chance to score a crit, and thus only one chance to earn 2 Malice instead of 1.
Power Thief derives 15% critical chance from Critical Strikes' Keen Observer trait, which demands the player stay above 75% HP. You won't have 100% uptime of this trait in many raid fights, especially if your healer is slacking. If the current Dagger Deadeye benchmark was performed at 75% player HP, without drastically altering gear to accommodate for the missing critical chance, the benchmark could lose up to 12,000 DPS!, dropping it nearly into support territory.
This Malicious Intent buff gives you a safety cushion for one of those Initiative skills to score a non-crit, making the rotation more robust in endgame encounters. It does NOT reduce the minimum number of Initiative skills needed to reach maximum Malice: that is still 3 with Malicious Intent and 4 without. It does reduce the maximum needed by 1 skill, which is also great!

Quickly Fire For Effect

This trait no longer requires a target to grant boons to allies.
Er, it doesn't require one right now. Specifically, if you Mark a target, you can use your F2 and gain boons even if your stolen skill is obstructed by terrain. If you have your enemy targeted while outside 1,500 range you will get an out of range error that stops you from casting F2, but simply untargeting the enemy will let you use the skill to get boons. If you are obstructed or out of range, you don't hit the target.
I assume what this means is that if you do NOT have a marked target, you can cast a cantrip to get a new F2. That's cool and rather handy for the new Quickness build.

Shadow Flare isn't real, it can't hurt you

Shadow Flare: Reduced cooldown from 30 to 20 seconds. This skill only damages once instead of pulsing. Activate the flip-over Shadow Swap to trigger another damage instance from your original location.
Deadeye dumbed down. Navigating self-reveal with pulsing damage skills on DPS Deadeye has been a hallmark of modern builds for several years—Shadow Flare for Power, Thousand Needles for Condition.
That problem is now eliminated for Power. You don't need to know the timing, you don't need to know where to throw Shadow Flare. Just Do your backstab, cast Shadow Flare for one damage packet, cast it again, go for another Backstab. No fuss, no skill expression, no frustration, no learning curve.
I don't like this change, I understand why other people like this change. I think it's dumb to change this. If you don't like self-reveal, consider not playing the class that uses Stealth and Revealed for its DPS output.

Fun in the Chamber

One in the Chamber: This trait now also increase the damage of F2 Stolen Skills in addition to its previous effects
In case anyone is unfamiliar with Deadeye—it doesn't have access to any core Stolen Skills. No Mag Bombs here!
This is a nice perk. The important thing is that this trait gives us an extra F2 charge every time we use a Stolen Skill...That's for Quickness.
This trait is also valuable to Condition Deadeye builds (particularly since there's a 4/9 chance they get a stolen skill that applies damaging conditions!) and to Power Pistol-Pistol Deadeye. See more of that here.

Binding Shadow, my beloved

Binding Shadow - Reduced cooldown from 30 to20 seconds in PvE.
Cool! I love—
This skill now immobilizes marked targets instead of knocking them down
Oh. Uhhh it already immobilized them. I assume it immobilizes them more? That sucks, this was an amazing breakbar skill, particular on Condition Deadeye where it applied several poison stacks (natively, and via Panic Strike with Immobilize) and gave an extra F2 charge from One in the Chamber.
It's lower cooldown on boonstrip which is neat? Matches No Pain No Gain time in Fractals, I suppose.
Just use a Power Mesmer, they passively breathe boonstrip.

Quickness Deadeye builds

Three options!
Oops! All cantrips
This option will spam out cantrip like nobody's business to meet the voracious demand of Might uptime.
Fire For Effect grants 8 stacks of Might for 12 seconds. The with-Alacrity cooldown of Cantrips are: 16 (Binding Shadow, Shadow Flare), 20 seconds (Malicious Restoration heal), 25 seconds (Mercy, Shadow Gust). When using Mercy, the cooldown of F1 is effectively the cooldown of Mercy, plus minimally the cast time of the F2, plus the cast time of F1 again.
So some of our Might is locked behind 25+ seconds. Building for 100% Might Duration would be devastating for our DPS output. We could cover 100% Might uptime with a single trio of F2 casts anyway—Binding Shadow, Malicious Restoration, Shadow Flare—but that would not take tactical advantage of the natural Deadeye's Mark cooldown.
Instead, we'll cover Quickness with two sets of F2 casts, staggered across the duration of our Might stacks. Left has an old benchmark demonstrating this technique.
So that's our 24-might upkeep option. It's not pretty, and it's Cantrip spam. ANet said we wouldn't have this in the game anymore.
Well, what if we don't have to generate Might?
Then we have two options:
3 cantrips with no Improvisation
This option will maintain a burst of 24 might as we apply quickness, or we can space out the stolen skills to maintain at least 8 stacks indefinitely. Sounds pretty good!
We'll probably still be using Shadow Flare because it's just good damage, and Improvisation selects for builds that use active utility skills, not passive signets. We might even be able to use Malicious Intent instead of One in the Chamber for this build, earning us more damage on Malicious Backstab.
So we have options.

Quickness Deadeye weapon options (We don't have those! )

Maleficent Seven is the only equalizer at work that allows bad weapons to do somewhat okay, and without that, we're back to shopping with the to the usual harsh restriction of "the best single skill out of all these weapons crushes the validity of all other options".
Stealth attacks? Naw, just spam F2s without Malice.
"Filler" initiative skills used to build up to an Initiative reset at max Malice? Nope, don't care, whatever has the best initiative-to-damage ratio is what we're running.
Thief Dagger is about matched with Thief sword for auto attack damage but Dagger is home to the centralizing Cloak & Dagger → Backstab combo. This does huge damage from any direction—flanking is gone!
Sword, by contrast, suffers a DPS loss when using any dual wield skill, Headshot, or Black Powder. The only DPS gain skills are Cloak & Dagger (but the stealth attack for sword is BARELY worth using, you could actually just cast Cloak & Dagger twice in a row and do just as well), and Sword 2...without using the return-to shadowstep. Meaning Sword 2 has a 15-second cooldown. Just to do slightly more than the auto-attack.
Need CC? Pack an off-hand pistol and fill time with auto-attacks, they're very good.
What about Pistol?
It's just weaker.
It sucks really bad against single targets.
Rifle? This is the sniper spec!
It sucks if you don't have Maleficent Seven for infinite Initiative and either stealth utility skills or Silent Scope to unlock Death's Judgment.

Specter, rant about single-target/ally-target support

Ally-targeted scepter skills now also grant a lesser effect to additional allies in a radius around the target.
I don't know why ANet is so obsessed with single target support for PvE Specter, but they'll learn its untenable eventually. They've been gradually walking back the single target focus ever since release, and we are now about 15 months past Specter's official release and coming up on 2 years since it's beta.
Ally-targeting is clunky.
Single-target support is nonviable. We have encounters that apply arena damage to all players, and each player in the squad can take damage from the same AoE and it's the healer's job to keep the whole team up.
A "lesser effect". Reduced duration? Great, what's the point of that? You might as well just make it all the reduced duration.
Does "splashed" Shadow Sap not even grant protection to the other allies? Great, we won't use it.
Hopefully this will just be something like reduced Barrier or Healing, and the Boons are intact, but it's already been confirmed by the new member of the design team, Trig, on a Twitch Stream (Mighty Teapot's?) that Endless Night will not give Quickness to "splashed" allies.
Maybe this skill shouldn't give quickness at all. Why is the design team not skill splitting? What are they afraid of?

The Dark Side of Scepter Splash

If you paid attention to Specter during its beta testing, you might be aware of a very weird build that used Endless Night (Scepter Pistol dual wield beam skill that granted quickness and 7-packets of Barrier to 3 allies, if you could pierce through the allies).
This rotation was initially theorycrafted by Left when Specter was first showed off. I did some early proof-of-concept on the build, then Left took it over and improved it to around 51,000 DPS.
That's a lot of damage!
Watch that video briefly, and notice how I swap between the enemy and my allies, applying one skill to the target then the Endless Night beam to my allies.
When Specter applies barrier to an ally, they receive a stack of Rotwallow Venom, which applies a short-duration stack of torment to a single enemy just like normal venoms.
Each cast of Endless Night back then was 21 applications of Rotwallow Venom, with more Torment duration than we have now.
ANet killed that build back during beta by making the beam target a single enemy, nerfing the quickness application, nerfing Rotwallow Venom duration, nerfing Specter's Torment damage modifier, nerfing Consume Shadows to require charging up.... The list goes on.
Why do I bring this up?

Scepter Autos on Allies

Currently the scepter auto chain applies 54 seconds of Torment (in the form of multiple stacks). If the scepter auto chain can instead apply barrier to 3 allies, then this balloons to 72 seconds without Strength of Shadows, or 108 seconds with Strength of Shadows.
The auto-attack chain will be twice as strong when targeting allies, vs targeting the enemy.
Endless Night is not worth using against an enemy target, but it might be worth using on allies. This rotation won't have room for auto attacks, so I'm not pinning any hopes to this.
No, the optimal damage rotation will probably be Twilight combo, Siphon, and Shroud skills on the enemy, then filling time with Scepter skills on allies. We will probably spend less time in Shroud because those autos are just so cracked...

Second Opinion, moving away from Consume Shadows

Ever since beta all forms of Specter have run Consume Shadows—Alacrity, DPS, Heal. This is because Consume Shadows can apply barrier to allies, giving them Rotwallow venom. The other adept traits are purely defensive, so they're not used by the DPS and Alacrity builds...and Consume Shadows is an extremely potent healing tool. So potent, it's been nerfed repeatedly!
Charged time reduced from instant to 4 seconds, maximum shroud cut by more than 50%, conversion ratio reduced from 100 to 50%
Second Opinion will grant bonus Condition Damage, more with a Scepter. This should be, at minimum, +80/+80, which will beat the ~800 DPS provided by perfect Rotwallow Venom application from Consume Shadows.
If your allies are too injured and Consume Shadows only heals them overflowing into Barrier, you won't give them Rotwallow.

Traversing Dusk no longer gives Alacrity

This is just a heal trait now. That's just what it does.

Shadestep is the new Alacrity trait

Oh. Uh. I'll keep it quick.
  1. This reduces our gameplay from 2 separate rotations with their own quirks and different Shroud lengths, to 1—the DPS rotation.
How do you give alacrity? Just go into shroud and push buttons.
How do you do DPS? Just go into shroud and push buttons.
Alacrity Specter's Well cooldowns were inaccessible inside Shadow Shroud because we inherited a shroud, not just a kit like Druid's Celestial Avatar or Holosmith's Photon Forge.
Druid Spirits off cooldown while in CA? Don't care, you can push em.
Specter wells off cooldown while in Shadow Shroud? You might be gaining DPS from shroud skills, or healing from Consume Shadows, but you're losing Alacrity uptime. Is that tradeoff worth it?
Doesn't matter anymore. Just do the benchmark DPS rotation.
You're too slow? Then your alacrity uptime will suffer. You need to be on pace with going in and out of shroud, just like the DPS rotation. Difference is, if you're bad at this, it's going to frustrate other people.
This is not the hardest rotation in game to optimize and you of course have the option to make it easier with Ritualist gear (which you should do anyway if you plan to still run Consume Shadows, will be a two-fold personal DPS loss).
\2. Ever been kicked out of Shroud by incoming damage in a raid/strike/open world meta? No more Alacrity uptime for you. Better refill your Shadow Force quickly—and Larcenous Torment generates Shadow Force FAR more slowly than Traversing Dusk
Fun fact: Traversing Dusk's 1% Shadow Force per ally in your shadowstep scales indefinitely, not just up to 5 players. That gives you colossal Shadow Force generation in crowded metas and even raids.
Want to use your Siphon on ally? No you don't, that's valuable Shadow Force generation you need to maintain tempo for Alacrity.
Again, you can wear Ritualist gear to soften this loss.
Want to have the utility of Well of Bounty? Well, previously that utility was tied to your Alacrity uptime, your DPS uptime (lingering outside shroud for Well of Bounty was a loss), and your healing output (Traversing Dusk, and maintaining tempo in/out of Shadow Shroud for Consume Shadows).
Now you can take Well of Bounty and have it on demand, at a DPS loss.
Previously you could have just take advantage of the long Stability duration to cast this well early, or delay it slightly to cover the mechanic.
How much DPS will ANet allow this build to have?
We don't know. And now it's DPS is very closely tied to the DPS build because they're doing nearly the exact same thing.
This has never happened to Firebrand, trust me.

tl;dr It's dangerous to read all that up there! Skip to here!

Condition Daredevil

Unchanged by Impairing Daggers cooldown reduction

Power Daredevil

Buffed to ~38.6 if you do the old rotation.
Buffed to 40.2 if you do the new degenerate 1a 1b 2 1a 1b 2 rotation that interrupts our auto chain.
Still screwed by all the usual stuff.
Mag Bomb damage normalized. Cool. Still amazing utility on that skill.

Boon Thief

Dead. Deadeye killed it.

Power Dagger Deadeye

Much easier to play. Splashes some cute boons onto its subgroup, at random. Have to see if Shadow Flare is still worth using. Hopefully, right?

Power Rifle Deadeye

Silent Scope uses Shadow Flare, I hope that's still worth using.
No need to flank with Premeditation Rifle is nice. Swapping Impact to an Accuracy sigil (or not doing that, and losing crit chance) was ~1,200 DPS loss, so that's avoided. I don't mind losing flanking here that much because Flanking wasn't make-or-break adrenaline pumping like dagger. It was just a boring loss.

Quickness Deadeye

I hope you like pushing 5 and 1 a whole lot because that's almost all this is. Also pushing cantrips for F2 charges to provide quickness.
It will play okay, but pretttttttttty similar to utility-spam builds that people hate, with the added bonus of casting TWO skills for every application of quickness.
You can tune this to your liking BUT

It won't really prevent you from applying quickness but it will tank your DPS and fracture your soul.
One of us. One of us!
This is getting no changes, by the way. It'd be a huge amount of effort from the studio's programmers for one elite spec, for one profession, largely in one game mode (instanced PvE), with a small player base.
Probably just not happening. Not a question of "want to", it's a question of resource management AND doing this right.
Remember stealth-tanking Old Lion's Court? Because they didn't apply Revealed, then they only applied Revealed once and Deadeye just Shadow Melded out of it?

DPS Specter

Buffed by Second Opinion, dubiously buffed by targeting allies with the auto chain.
You can still run Consume Shadows for team healing/barrier.

Alacrity Specter

I don't know. Presumably the shroud skills will allow us to provide at least 50% uptime with a non-degenerate rotation (one that doesn't have us spending all our time in shroud). Said degenerate rotation is naturally policed by the fact our shroud absorbs incoming damage.
Will it run Consume Shadows? Not for optimal damage anymore.

Alac Share Specter

Just change your grandmaster from Strength of Shadows to Shadestep and do the normal rotation. Should do at least 50% uptime, unless Alac specter is just nonviable and can't maintain Alacrity.

2023.06.10 05:19 Tristen64 Please help, my SO [42f] broke up and pushed me away, suffering with bipolar and PTSD

My girlfriend broke up with me after starting to work with a new therapist. We had a perfectly healthy, happy, and normal relationship for 5 months despite her bipolar disorder. I am 18 years younger than her, which was no issue to her throughout our relationship.
On two previous occasions, her past therapists and psychiatrists had her open up about her childhood trauma. Both of these times, she’d fall into a depressive state saying she couldn’t “have sex or contact with any man” but also pleaded for me to give her time and be understanding. She insisted she didn’t want me to break up with her and she didn’t want to lose me. She also mention that I had met the manic side of her when we started dating, and that her manic state was under control during these times.
In both of those cases, we talked things out, and she’d leave the ball in my court saying I needed to think about what’s best for my future and whether this is truly what I want. She would also mention that her therapist does not recommend the relationship because her condition will only be getting worse. Both times I was extremely understanding and patient because I knew she was on a medication plan and seeing her therapists regularly for treatment. I agreed to stay and the relationship continued happily like normal.
Well a month ago, when our relationship was going perfectly with no issues in sight, she started working with a new therapist who had her open up about her past trauma as well. After that appointment, she said she was so saddened by what the therapist recommended to her. She even broke down at work the following morning and needed to increase her dosage of clonazepam to stay sedated all day long. She broke up with me later that week, using what reasons her therapist told her to say to avoid speaking about her trauma. That our 18 year age difference was inappropriate and she needed to do what was “the correct thing to do”. She said the relationship was setup during a manic state when she wasn’t herself and she was being immature. She said I’m not the correct person and what she was doing was wrong. She finally admitted my true age to her mother whom she lives with and takes of, and her mother was angry saying I could be her son.
She was Extremely adamant and direct, and left me with zero other option or the chance to discuss this. She kept saying we could be friends and she even offered to help me find another partner.
Well she reached out to me several times by text over the next 2 weeks, every time I told her how emotionally hurt I was or how much I missed her or tried to discuss this together, it was immediately met with an adamant no, “I can only offer we be friends”, “God will bless you with a beautiful woman”, “We are not dating, don’t expect me to come back because it’s not going to happen“. “It is better we stay this way”, “ I know it’s a horrible pain, but in the future you will be happy with this decision”.
After 3 weeks, she noticed I was still depressed and sad in person. She later called me and explained how she left because she didn’t want to be in a relationship at all. She didn’t understand why this was still bothering me after a month. She said she doesn’t want to date or talk to other men, she’s avoiding other people at work, she doesn’t want people talking to her, she wants to be alone. She said she even feels disgusted when her mother tries to touch her or kiss her. She doesn’t feel “love” as an emotion at all. She feels horrible and numb. She said seeing me depressed is hurting her treatment and worsening her depression. She feels absolutely horrible for hurting me this way.
She was breaking down crying another say over the phone saying “I hope one day you can forgive me. I feel so awful, you don’t know how much pain this is giving me inside. God knows I didn’t mean to hurt you. I’m sorry for pushing you away. I just wanted the best for you. You didn’t deserve this. You didn’t deserve to meet me.”
Only in the past couple days has she started eating lunch with me again and talking to me as a friend again in-person at work. She hasn’t said or hinted anything about the relationship and talks to me as if the relationship never even happened. She sounds like her happy self again but shows no signs of being romantically attached.
She even asked me to send her all of our pictures together and our messages sent to each other so she could keep them as memories.
I know this woman was truly and incredibly in love with me all of these months. She never stopped telling me how blessed she was that I was in her life and how much her and her mother adore me and love me. She always talked about our future together and how good of a partner I was to her.
I don’t know what to do at this point and I need advice please. This is the first time she has had this same type of depressive episode and didn’t give me the choice to stay in the relationship. Ever since the breakup I have stayed her friend and have stayed in contact but I am trying not to bring up the relationship to respect her boundaries that her and her therapist have created.
What do I do in this situation? Will she come back to me?

2023.06.10 05:01 The_Alloquist [A Lord of Death] - Chapter 64 (Sorore)

[←Chapter 63] [Cover Art] [My Links] [Index] [Discord] [Subreddit] [Chapter 65→]
In a rare moment, Sorore was actually having a nice dream, a normal one, one could even say. She was back home, in that moderately seized house in Erratz, laying on her mother’s lap. She could even hear the gentle sound that the needle made as it went in and out of the cloth. It was peaceful, pleasant, surrounded by familiar sound and smells, though her sight was blurry and confused.
It was not to last, as the sound of rushing water overtook all else, until she was forced awake by its unrelenting pace. When she sat up, rubbing her eyes in the broad bed, she released that it wasn’t the sound of water, nor was it relegated to her dreams. There was a commotion outside people talking in hushed but harsh tones.
Neither Lillian, nor Aya were within the room, and she wondered if they were having an argument. That wouldn’t be good - she’d watched them have the spat earlier, and that dispute didn’t need much worsening. Sorore crept to the door to the outer hallway - she loved how they slid to create whole new rooms. It was something she’d have to think about more she decided as she pulled it open and realised several things at once.
One, there were a whole lot of armoured figures in the hallway, at least four, maybe half a dozen. Two, the balcony door was open, and Lillian was currently arguing with one of them, Aya standing by looking like a mining explosive had gone off right next to her. Three, her brother and Niche had just emerged out of the room beside, and Niche was about to draw his sword at the sudden intrusion.
For a moment, she panicked, her mind going completely blank. Her mind raced with visions of bloody aftermath, and a chase through the city, back to the dinner she’d had with all those nice people.
“Oh, hello!” she blurted, drawing the surprised stares of several of the men, “who might you be?”
There was an instant of shocked silence between all parties.
“Nobody do anything!” called the man who was out on the porch, “We are representatives of the sand-shell legion, on behalf of the matriarch of the Eisen. We have come to retrieve her granddaughter.”
Niche lowered his hand from his sword belt, but Sorore could tell that he was ready to fight on a moment’s provocation. She also noticed that Kieren, in the same gown she’d worn to the square was standing in the stairwell. The woman looked so nervous Sorore thought she might fall over and down the stairs.
“Let’s move to a less cramped area,” said the captain, in a tone that brook no argument.
Eventually, it was sussed out, though not without considerable resistance on part of the paladins, that they were to meet in the great hall. As they sat, they were brought simple drinks of milk and honey, flavoured with something else that Sorore could not quite place. The two paladins looked like pacing cats, constrained on their chairs, arms crossed and eyes hard.
“Under no circumstances can we give one of ours into you custody,” said Lillian, locked in a match with the captain.
“Within the city, you are under the authority of the guard, no matter who you are. If the matriach has sent for this girl, then we have our orders.”
“As do we, captain,” said Niche, “to protect and guide each of these young women and… man, unto the holy lands of Angorrah.”
One of the guards flanking the captain whispered something in his ear.
“She’s not going to like it,” the captain said, then heard something else.
“Very well. Bloodshed before the Festival would be unwise. We have enough of that already. Right then, one of you paladins, assuming you are who you say you are, shall come with us and the lady to be received by the Eisen. I cannot say it’s likely you will have a happy reception. They will expect you to come unarmed.”
The paladins were bristling at the implied threat, and several hands were already dangerously close to their sword belts. Sorore gripped the mug that she was being offered, before Aya sat up and proclaimed to the group.
“Leave two of your men with us, then,” she said.
The captain’s eyes furrowed.
“I don’t wish to second guess you, my lady,” he said, “but why would I do that?”
“Trust,” Aya said, with a side long look at Lillian, “simple. If you leave your men with us, you can’t simply waltz off with me and my friend. Plus, it gives us men who know, and can quickly get around the city, so they can find you whenever they need to.”
The captain considered, and nodded.
“Very well my lady. Two men will be left for the disposal of your party members. But you shall have to come with us, immediately.”
“Me as well,” said Lillian.
“As you wish,” he said, “but you must disarm yourself. That is non-negotiable.”
Lillian was fuming, but unbuckled her belt and handed her armaments to Niche. The legionaries surrounded them, and departed with them out the front of the pyramid. They were left in front of the roaring fire, Kieren sitting beside them holding a considerably more full glass of the amber coloured alcohol.
“You said that this-” Niche began, his face reddened, “you sold us out!”
“Sold you out?” said Kieren incuriously as she swirled the glass around, “sold you out?”
The woman slammed down the glass on one of the nearby table, somehow not breaking it in the process.
“Maybe, you should of told us that you had the granddaughter of Aystara godsdamned Eisen in your retinue? No, forgot that little detail?”
“Okay, can we get this over with?” said Frare, picking at his nails.
“What?” said both the paladin and the trader, staring at the temerity of the youth.
“Blah, blah, we’ve all kept things from eachother,” he said, “so let’s all move on. Who is this ‘Aystara’? Why is she important?”
While Niche gaped at the casual ease from which Frare dismissed the turbulence, the trader seemed to settle.
“Only one of the two most powerful people in the city, young man,” she said, downing a shot from the glass, “between her and Edmund Poutash, it’d be easier to list what they don’t own. The docks, the schools, the farms… if you want an import or export licence? You go through her. You want to own a ship bigger than a rinky-dink fishing boat? You go through her or Potash.”
She finished the glass, and reached for the decanter, and stopped herself.
“And you waltz into the city, and conveniently forget to mention that you have her granddaughter, who hasn’t been in the city ever, if I remember correctly. To say she’d be furious that you didn’t bring the young lady before her immediately would be an understatement. And worse, you dragged us into it.”
“She must be awfully mean - you had nothing to do with us. You just hosted it.”
The woman blinked at the boldfaced remark, and Sorore delivered a good kick to his shins to drive the point home.
“No, no,” she ultimately said, “no I don’t think she’ll do anything to our family, if she believes us. She’s not unreasonable. At least, so I’ve heard. I’ve only met her once, and that was for a brief time. As for what she’ll do to you...”
She gave a pointed look at Niche.
“You tried to hid her granddaughter from her, maybe unintentionally, maybe not. If I were a betting woman, which I’m not, I would say that means trouble. If you want my advice-”
“I don’t,” said Niche, crinkling his noise.
“Don’t be stupid,” said Frare, before he howled at another kick.
Sorore’s face was burning with indignation and embarrassment. This was all too much.
“If you want my advice,” Kieren pressed on, “you’d go find and talk to your commander immediately. I could fetch for him if you wish - I know where Amicio’s home is.”
Niche, through narrowed eyes and clenched teeth, acquiesced.
“Good, now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some letters to send,” she said, “of course, though this has earned you no small amount of displeasure from certain peoples, we’ve been instructed to provide you with house and board for as long as it takes to sort this out. You are still welcome guests and you will be treated as such.”
The tepid truce struck, the children were sent back up to their rooms. Sorore tried to sleep, and managed no more than half an hour before she was woken by her brother.
“The commander’s here,” he said, “he wants to talk to us.”
The commander, looking very tired, but light of step than Sorore had ever seen him, waited by the fire. He was talking with Kieren and the two remaining legionarries in the fast-paced trading tongue of the city, but stopped when he saw the girl come downstairs.
“My lady,” he said, “it seems there’s been a huge misunderstanding.”
She realized that it was his manner of dress which was throwing her off. Instead of his usual worn and thoroughly practical travelling clothes, he wore the long flowing silks of orange and cream. It suited him, matching his calm personality.
“What misunderstanding?” she said.
“Well, we had no idea that our own Aya was the granddaughter of Aystara Eisen herself. I was surprised as anyone. Of course, I knew she was an Eisen, from her mother.”
He looked at Kieren, who looked like she was about to fall asleep.
“But I never imagined that she was a direct descendent of the main house. I thought she was part of the branch, not necessary to cause any fuss, especially during the preparation of the festival. Ah!”
He slapped his head to indicate his shock at the realisation.
“What a terrible mistake I’ve made,” he said, patting the woman’s arm, “this is all on my horrendous lack of judgement. Here’s what’s going to happen, one of these gentlemen and trader Amicio will be vouching for me at the gate. I’m going to the Eisen estate and having a friendly chat with the matriarch, to clear up this misunderstanding.”
Sorore felt at last some suggestion that someone around the city knew what was happening and what they were going to do.
“Here’s what I need you and your brother to do,” Naia said, “I want you to wait and enjoy the hospitality of the madame of the house.”
The term seemed to flatter Kieren, who flushed at the complement. Or that might’ve been the drink, Sorore wasn’t entirely sure.
“Niche, you take care of them. I expect that I might be at the estate for the rest of the night, and possibly onto next afternoon. Things are always so chaotic around the Festival. There’s no reason for you not to attend the festival opening tomorrow, if you can.”
“You want us to attend a festival?” said Niche in disbelief, “right now?”
“Well, not right now, it hasn’t started yet,” said the commander, “but, if Kieren would graciouslly agree to take you as guest of honour, you’d have excellent seats. If that’s not too much to ask, especially after our little debacle.”
Kieren nodded, and affirmed that she wouldn’t mind at all, if the matter was going to be soon cleared up. Sorore was now certain that it wasn’t just alcohol.
“Great. You’re all taken care of, now I’d better explain myself. If you wouldn’t mind,” he said, pointing to the quarter full glass, which Kieren handed to him. The commander downed it all in one, rolled his shoulders, and smiled.
“Don’t worry. It’ll all work out in the end,” he said, “in fact, I would say to enjoy yourselves, as much as you can. And best go back to bed, unless you want to be sleeping during the festival, which, I assure you from experience, you do not.”
Before they could say anything, the commander had swept by them, vanishing out of the front of the pyramid.
“You should heed him,” said Kieren, picking up the decanter and the glass and moving towards the kitchens, “if you’re stuck here for the time being, you might as well enjoy it And that starts with getting good sleep.”
“Last time you said that, we woke up to armed guards,” Niche said flatly.
“Well, I assure you, I’m not boring enough to do that a second time. It would be assassin’s from across the streets, who approach over the rooftops.”
“Do they actually exist?” asked Frare, suddenly excited.
“Oh, I’m sure,” said Kieren as she stowed away her drinking equipment, “but not tonight. Go get some sleep sir paladin, and you two young ones as well. You’ll need it.”
Sorore was cajoled up the steps, Frare coming up after her. Niche seemed placated enough for the time being, though he was clearly unhappy with the outcome. The pleasant dreams neglected to revisit for a second time, but at least the sleep was uninterrupted. When Soroe next awoke, it was a young handmadein, pulling open the screen doors.
“Good morning, my lady,” she said, “how did you sleep?”
“I- well enough, I suppose,” she said, stretching and yawning, before quickly covering her mouth.
The maid had the presence of mind not to notice as she revealed the bright sunlight streaming through the open balcony.
“It must almost be midday!” Sorore exclaimed, leaping out of the bed as she tried to straighten herself.
The maid chuckled as she finished opening up the room.
“Not to fear, my lady,” she said, “it’s customary to sleep into the early afternoon. The Festival does not start until just before sunset, afterall. In fact, you might be earlier than many of the household.”
“Oh,” Soroe said, feeling rather foolish, “Um. Well, I guess I’ll get dressed.”
“Of course. I’ve left out some clothes for you. Madame Kieren suggested that you try clothes from our city. I hope you’ll love them. Do you bathe?”
Sorore wrinkled her nose at the prospect. What kind of question was that?
“Of course I do,” she said.
“Well, there’s a place to bath at the bottom of the pyramid. If you wish to bath alone, you should go now - I’ll bring you clothes for you to change at the waterfront.”
“You bathe together here?” Sorore said
“In the mornings and evenings,” she said, “we do not bring water up into the house if we cannot avoid it. To the stone goes the sea, and to the home goes the sky.”
She looked around, then leaned in with a smile.
“Also, water is very troublesome to carry up all those flights.”
“So just come down to the waterfront?” she said, gathering up what spare things she needed.
“Just follow me, my lady,” said the handmaiden, picking up a pile of clothes and leading her down the stairs.
They emerged onto an inset pool carved into the pyramid interior. A smooth stone deck, with benches and chairs and stacks of towels, as well as several large paper screens, presumably for changing. Sorore was glad to see they were alone, at least for the time being.
At the handmaid, Kiroe’s, direction, she stripped down naked and plunged into the pool. The water was a perfect temperature - cold enough to dispel the last of the grogginess, warm enough to be pleasant to float in. She swam around for a bit, constrained by the relatively small volume, while Kiroe prepared her outfit on the deck.
“Do you mind if I join you?” came a voice from the other end.
Kieren slipped out of a thin morning dress and stepped into the water. Sorore swam over and came to stand beside her.
“Is there any news? About Aya and the commander?” she said, a little too quickly.
Kieren, who’d been sinking into the water with a sigh of contentment, opened one eye.
“Straight to business? Perhaps you are better suited to the city than I thought.”
Sorore tried to smile, but her concern was betrayed, judging by the woman’s softening of expression.
“My knowledge is limited. My uncle is serving as our representative for now. Sounds like your commander was at least allowed to make his case to the Eisen. He made note of one other companion of yours.”
“Oh? Who?” she said, pushing out into the pool, feeling the water surge over her shoulders.
“A man in black clothes,” she said, “who hides his face behind a mask. He was there for the meeting.”
“The mage?” said Sorore, before considering that she maybe shouldn’t have mentioned it.
“A mage?” said Kieren, before submerging herself in the water.
She tossed her hair back as she came back up, spraying water in a neat arc.
“Well, that explains his odd demeanour,” she said, “now, regrettably, that’s all the time I have today for bathing. I will see you at the festival.”
“Hello cousin! May I join- oh,” came a voice from the steps leading out.
It was Ivers, dressed in nothing but a loose robe, which was already half-way off his body, sculpted with muscle from hauling rope and tackle. Sorore stifled a gasp and turned away, trying not to redden.
“I can come back later,” he offered.
“Do you mind?” Kieren said to Sorore, “if you do, it’d be best to finish soon and let others bathe.”
“No, no,” she said, waving her host away.
Kiero had warned her, after all. It would be best to become accustomed to the strange ways of this beautiful city. Besides, it’s not like she hadn’t bathed before in the company of men her age back home. She cursed herself for being so self-conscious, and forced herself to turn around.
“Are you sure? I can leave if you want, it’s not-” Ivers began.
“No, it’s fine. It’s fine,” Sorore said, smiling at him, “it’d be good to have companionship.”
“Well, then, Ivers, I trust you’ll behave yourself,” said Kieren rising from the water.
“Of course, cousin,” Ivers said, casting his eyes to the floor.
Sorore tried not to take a wicked pleasure at the blush that crept across his dark complexion.
“Oh, one more thing,” whispered her host, bending over to the girl, “it’s considered polite to not look when they’re outside the water.”
Kieren laughed at Sorore’s own furious blush as she made for one of the poolside changing screens.

2023.06.10 04:55 everydogday My dads wife gave my 15 month old Tequila

I wrote year in the body, but he is indeed 15 months.
So my Dad and I have a good relationship, but it's strained going back to when I was in high school (36 now) and my parents got divorced. My sister is no contact with him, in part to how his wife (remarried) behaves and has caused some serious issues.
I don't see my Dad that frequently anymore, a few times a year even though he only lives a few hours away. He's starting to slow down, and having health problems and I recognize time together is precious and really have made an effort to see him more, especially now that he is a grandfather as of 15 months ago.
His wife is a really nasty woman. This is an understatement and I could write a novel about her antics, but she has apologized and started medication and made an effort to control herself better.
I am big on second (and even third and forth chances) so I have been amicable with her mainly to maintain a relationship with my father.
They came into town for the night, mainly because his wife wanted to see her dentist that's 2 hours away, but a convenient opportunity for them to spend time. They were to stay at a hotel close by, we don't have a big house and extra space for them to be comfortable.
They got here, everything was "fine" and 30 minutes later, my wife sees her offering a glass of tequila on the rocks to my 15 month old son. My wife calls her out and says what the he'll are you doing?
She responds defensively, saying it's only a little and proceeds to pull a tequila soaked ice cube out her glass to offer it to him. At this point my wife starts yelling and all hell breaks loose. I calm and firmly explain to my Dad's wife that it's not OK, and I don't care if it's orange juice she needs to get permission to offer him anything whatsoever, especially alcohol.
She never had kids of her own for what its worth. She freaks out, offended by my wife and I giving her a hard time, and yells to my Dad to take her home. I explain that she can simply apologize for her mistake and respect our rules as parents but "her feeling" were hurt.
They leave and my dad calls me a few minutes later, he said she is taking his car back home with or without him and he wanted to know if I would drive him home (2 hours each way) so he can stay and hang out.
At this point, I'm angry and frustrated with the situation and said that maybe he should just come down another weekend without her. He apologized and that was that.
30 minutes later, his wife shows up at my door. I'm too pissed off at everything, and frustrated that she keeps getting in the way of an opportunity for me to spend quality time with my father and son to talk to her. My wife went to talk to her and she apologized and was upset and then she asked for the food they had brought (KFC) back (wtf).
Later, I get a text from my Dad that he wants to have breakfast together in the morning and his wife knows she was wrong so we can smooth things over. I responded that I had already made plans because they told us they were going hone.
I am sick of being jerked around. I don't have time to do anything for myself anymore and we had been planning this weekend for over a month. For them to pull the plug over something his stupid wife did that was fucked up really pissed me off. It's not fair to me or my wife, we work all week and as new parents and rarely have time to do anything fun or for ourselves. We carved this weekend out for them, and then they bail, only to ask to have plans the next day to smooth over there bullshit.
I wanted to send the message that if they don't respect our time and rules as parents they loose that privilege and they don't get to just flip flop on when we see them.
Did we have a right to be that pissed about her offering "a tiny bit of tequila"?
Did I handle this the right way?
Why is something like spending quality time as a family so fucking difficult?

Does having a blank BIOS chip result in a black screen with no video signal on a Dreamcast?
I installed a new BIOS chip on my Dreamcast VA0, but now the Dreamcast has a black screen with no video signal. Then I remembered that the new BIOS chip I installed is blank. Would having a blank BIOS chip result in no video signal?
Everything in the console powers on (orange light, fan, VMU, although the VMU only shows the initialization of powering on and then blank screen afterwards).
If this is likely caused by a blank BIOS chip, would I be able to flash the BIOS onto the chip while installed on the motherboard? If so, can you guide me to directions and the tool I need to do so?
The BIOS chip has 44 legs as shown in the picture. I’d prefer to flash the chip without uninstalling it from the motherboard if possible.
A GDEMU ODE is installed and I’m using a new VGA cable.
Thank you

2023.06.10 04:45 HOCKHOCKHOCKHOCKHOCK Chat GPT Death Battle tournament. Round 2!

Chat GPT Death Battle tournament. Round 2!
Current Bracket
This is the 2nd round of the Chat GPT tournament bracket. As a refresher of the rules For each match I give a brand new ChatGPT thread the following prompt "Script a fight between [Character A] and [Character B]. The fight should start with the characters using their weaker abilities and pulling out stronger attacks as the fight goes on. You must decide who wins the fight based on logic and the fight must end in the death of the loser." I will not reset a script unless Rule 1 or 2 are broken. (Sometimes ChatGPT will literally replace the winner with "your winner pick") All characters were selected by commenters on a previous post.
DISCLAIMER: ChatGPT generated every fight on their own with the rules provided. I gave them no info on either character. Incorrect representation of personalities or abilities, as well as objectively false outcomes that may come from these fights are due to limitations by the AI itself.

ROUND 2 FIGHT 1: Tartaglia (Genshin Impact) vs Kratos (God of War)
Tartaglia, the sneering Harbinger of the Fatui from Genshin Impact, and Kratos, the vengeful Spartan God of War, stand on opposite ends of a grand arena. The air crackles with anticipation as they prepare to engage in an epic battle.
TARTAGLIA (brandishing his Hydro Vision) Well, well, what have we here? Another foolhardy warrior seeking a taste of my power? Prepare to be outmatched, mortal.
KRATOS (grasping the Blades of Chaos) Your arrogance will be your downfall, creature. I have faced gods and monsters alike. You shall not be an exception.
They both charge forward, each unleashing their weaker abilities as the battle begins.
Tartaglia conjures water blades, slashing through the air towards Kratos. He then calls forth his elemental skill, "Havoc: Obliteration," firing a powerful water arrow that explodes upon impact.
Kratos, using his Spartan Rage, channels his fury, enhancing his strength and resistance. He charges through the water blades, enduring their impact, and retaliates with a relentless assault of swift and powerful strikes from his blades.
The battle intensifies as Tartaglia, realizing the gravity of the situation, taps into his more potent Hydro abilities. He activates his elemental burst, "Havoc: Tidebreaker," summoning a colossal tidal wave that crashes towards Kratos.
Kratos, unyielding, pushes against the torrent with all his might, barely holding his ground. His rage-fueled power amplifies as he summons the Leviathan Axe, imbued with ice elemental abilities, and hurls it towards Tartaglia.
The clash of Kratos' Leviathan Axe and Tartaglia's tidal wave causes a monumental explosion, temporarily obscuring the arena. Emerging from the smoke, both combatants reveal their resolve to claim victory.
TARTAGLIA (mocking) Is that the best you can do, Spartan? Your strength is nothing compared to the power of the Archon.
KRATOS (gritted teeth) You underestimate me at your own peril, harpy. I am the Ghost of Sparta, and I will not be defeated.
As the fight enters its final phase, both fighters unleash their ultimate abilities, combining the full extent of their powers.
Tartaglia harnesses the true potential of his Hydro Vision, transforming into his mighty Primal form, the "Lord of the Vishaps." He summons water dragons that ravage the battlefield, assaulting Kratos relentlessly.
Kratos, driven to the edge, taps into his godly might, assuming his Spartan God form. His body becomes engulfed in divine flames as he unleashes the full force of his Spartan Rage and Spartan Fury, delivering earth-shattering blows.
Their clash reaches its climax, shaking the arena to its core. The combatants give their all, but in the end, a winner emerges.
Tartaglia, battered and exhausted, falls to his knees, unable to withstand the relentless onslaught of Kratos' divine fury. With a final strike from the Blades of Chaos, Kratos pierces Tartaglia's heart, ending the battle.
Kratos stands over the fallen Tartaglia, his victory confirmed. The arena falls into silence as the crowd witnesses the overwhelming might of the Ghost of Sparta.
WINNER: Kratos (God of War)

ROUND 2 FIGHT 2: Son Goku (Dragon Ball) vs Chuck Norris (memes)
The arena is filled with anticipation as Goku and Chuck Norris step into the ring. The crowd roars with excitement, eager to witness this epic clash between two iconic figures.
Goku, a Saiyan warrior with incredible power, stands tall with his signature orange gi, a confident smile on his face. Chuck Norris, the legendary martial artist and internet meme, exudes an aura of unstoppable strength.
Goku (smirking): So, Chuck Norris, you think you can handle a Saiyan?
Chuck Norris (grinning): Goku, you're in for a surprise. Let's see what you've got.
They both take their starting positions, ready for combat.
Goku charges at Chuck Norris, launching a flurry of rapid punches and kicks. Chuck Norris effortlessly dodges and counters with lightning-fast strikes, displaying his incredible martial arts skills.
Goku (impressed): Not bad, Chuck! But let's see how you handle this!
Goku charges up a small Kamehameha wave and fires it at Chuck Norris, who calmly blocks it with his bare hands, showcasing his immense durability.
Goku senses the need to step up his game. He transforms into Super Saiyan form, his golden hair and aura intensifying.
Goku (grinning): Now, Chuck, things are about to get serious!
Chuck Norris smirks and taps into his legendary meme powers, enhancing his already impressive strength and speed.
They engage in a fierce exchange of blows, each landing powerful strikes on the other. Goku launches an enormous Spirit Bomb, gathering energy from the surroundings, while Chuck Norris summons the powers of the internet memes, creating a devastating Roundhouse Kick of Destruction.
The Spirit Bomb and the Roundhouse Kick collide in an explosion that shakes the entire arena.
Both fighters stand, panting heavily, their bodies bruised and battered. But there can only be one victor.
Goku, realizing the seriousness of the situation, channels all his remaining energy into one last attack. He unleashes the Ultra Instinct, a state of being where his reflexes and power reach their peak.
Goku (whispering): This is my final move, Chuck!
Goku charges towards Chuck Norris at an incredible speed, delivering a barrage of punches and kicks with unparalleled precision.
Chuck Norris, though overwhelmed, refuses to back down. He counters Goku's attacks with unmatched skill, trading blows with the Saiyan warrior.
In a climactic moment, Goku delivers a devastating punch that connects with Chuck Norris's chest, shattering his legendary invincibility.
Chuck Norris, stunned, realizes the battle is over. He falls to his knees, gasping for breath, his body unable to withstand Goku's final attack.
Goku (looking somber): It's over, Chuck. You fought valiantly, but I had to protect my world.
Chuck Norris, with a faint smile, nods in acknowledgment.
Chuck Norris: You're the stronger one, Goku. Farewell.
Chuck Norris collapses to the ground, lifeless, ending the battle between two legends.
The crowd falls silent, paying respect to both fighters. Goku takes a moment to mourn the fallen warrior before exiting the arena, victorious but somber.
WINNER: Son Goku (Dragon Ball)

ROUND 2 FIGHT 3: Seiya (Saint Seiya) vs Erika Furudo (Umineko)
The cosmic arena is shrouded in an ethereal glow, crackling with energy. Seiya, the Bronze Saint of Pegasus, stands tall with his Cosmo ablaze, while Erika Furudo, the Golden Witch of Truth, exudes an aura of mystery and power.
SEIYA I won't let evil prevail! Pegasus Meteor Fist!
Seiya unleashes a barrage of meteor-like punches, hurtling towards Erika.
ERIKA (chanting) Red Truth, deny falsehood!
Erika raises her hand, invoking the power of the Red Truth, forming a barrier that deflects the meteor strikes. She then retaliates.
ERIKA Blue Truth, reveal the weak points!
Erika's words pierce the air, targeting Seiya's vulnerabilities. Seiya stumbles, his movements momentarily hindered.
SEIYA Not giving up! Pegasus Rolling Crush!
Seiya spins, unleashing a flurry of kicks, aiming to break through Erika's defenses.
ERIKA (whispering) Golden Truth, manifest your wrath!
Erika's whispers resonate with ancient magic, summoning golden chains that ensnare Seiya, restraining his movements.
SEIYA Grr... Pegasus Divine Ascension!
Seiya gathers his Cosmo, propelling himself upward, breaking free from the golden chains. He then dives down with immense speed, aiming for Erika.
ERIKA (voice filled with certainty) Golden Truth, sever all bonds!
Erika's command causes the chains to transform into countless blades, intercepting Seiya's descent, creating a barrier of blades.
SEIYA Unyielding! Pegasus Comet Fist!
Seiya channels his Cosmo into his fists, smashing through the barrier of blades, closing in on Erika.
ERIKA (whispering, eyes shining) Golden Truth, shatter illusions!
Erika's whisper intensifies, releasing a wave of energy that distorts reality. Seiya's vision becomes hazy, making it difficult to locate Erika.
SEIYA I can't lose now! Pegasus Nova!
Seiya unleashes a powerful energy blast, surging through the haze, aimed at Erika's position.
ERIKA (rising above the haze, determined) Golden Truth, pierce through the darkness!
Erika's voice cuts through the haze, and a beam of golden light materializes, deflecting Seiya's attack. She counters with her ultimate move.
ERIKA Golden Truth, Witch's Judgment!
Erika's eyes glow with an intense golden light. Seiya is engulfed in a torrent of energy, his Cosmos crushed under the immense power of the Witch's Judgment.
SEIYA (struggling) I won't... give up!
Seiya's voice weakens, and his body collapses, defeated. His Cosmos fades away, leaving only silence.
Winner: Erika Furudo (Umineko)

ROUND 2 FIGHT 4: Alucard (Hellsing) vs Reverse Flash (DC comics)
The dimly lit warehouse stands silent, shrouded in an eerie atmosphere. Suddenly, a gust of wind blows through the room, followed by a crackle of lightning. Reverse Flash, a speedster dressed in yellow and black, materializes. Across from him, Alucard, a dark and enigmatic vampire, appears with his crimson eyes gleaming.
REVERSE FLASH (mocking) Well, well, what do we have here? A bloodsucking vampire? This should be fun!
ALUCARD (smiling wickedly) Indeed. You've caught my attention, speedster. Let's see if your speed can match my darkness.
The battle commences as the adversaries circle each other, testing their abilities.
Alucard extends his arm, releasing shadows that transform into demonic hounds charging at Reverse Flash. But with his incredible speed, Reverse Flash easily evades their attacks, darting around the room.
REVERSE FLASH (chuckling) You'll have to do better than that, Dracula!
Alucard smirks and his form begins to change. His shadowy essence swirls around him, transforming him into a monstrous, winged creature. He lunges at Reverse Flash, clawing through the air with incredible strength and speed. However, Reverse Flash vibrates his molecules, allowing the creature's attack to pass harmlessly through him.
REVERSE FLASH (grinning) Impressive, vampire, but your tricks won't work on me!
Now it's Reverse Flash's turn. He taps into the Speed Force, his body vibrating with an intense energy. He moves so fast that he becomes a blur, delivering lightning-fast punches and kicks to Alucard. The vampire's supernatural durability allows him to withstand the onslaught, but the impact weakens him.
ALUCARD (blood dripping from his mouth) You may be fast, but you lack the darkness that fuels me!
Alucard's eyes glow with renewed intensity. He releases the restriction seals on his power, unleashing his true form. Shadows envelop the entire warehouse as Alucard's presence becomes even more ominous. He disappears from sight, leaving Reverse Flash momentarily disoriented.
REVERSE FLASH (concerned) Where did you go?
Alucard's voice echoes through the room, chilling Reverse Flash to the bone.
ALUCARD (whispering) I am everywhere and nowhere, speedster. Your speed won't save you from my darkness.
Reverse Flash frantically looks around, but Alucard's words prove true. Shadows converge on Reverse Flash from all directions, binding him in an inescapable grip. Alucard materializes before him, his eyes glowing with an unholy light.
ALUCARD (grinning) It's time to embrace eternal darkness.
Alucard's monstrous form lunges at Reverse Flash, sinking his fangs deep into his neck. The vampire drains his opponent's life force, feeding on his super-speed and preventing any chance of escape.
REVERSE FLASH (struggling weakly) No... this can't be...
As Reverse Flash's life force fades away, Alucard retracts his fangs, letting the lifeless body of his defeated opponent fall to the ground. The room returns to its eerie silence as Alucard stands victorious.
WINNER: Alucard (Hellsing)

Well there it is. Round 2. Chat GPT shows some clear issues here even moreso than last round but hey, that's part of the fun. Sorry if your favorite character was Reverse Flash lmao. Robbed.
Final 4 bracket.

2023.06.10 04:42 CTAVI A detailed reconstruction of warframe anatomy

Tl;Dr - Any of you guys have any theories as to how Warframe's function? As in specifics, like "what is armour made of", or "how are they powered", etc. Not vague lore things like "The Heart of Deimos does it", but rather specifics as to how exactly those things work in universe.

Hey! Obligatory spoiler warning! For a while, I've been wondering about the actual anatomy of a warframe, beyond just the old "person is infested, person is augmented, person is now warframe" that we know, and have been trying to theory-craft the specific details as to how they could be actually constructed in universe. The reason being is because I'm someone with a love for graphic design, and am considering getting into Tennogen, though I don't have a ton of actual confidence. Hence, I'm thinking of doing the single most complicated thing physically possible, and am going to use this knowledge to attempt to actually 3D model the full internals of warframes, removing pieces as needed whilst keeping others, in order to design the "Subderma" series of skins, which I'd then submit. The idea is to have them reveal the internal workings of a warframe, whilst not going full Sunder helmet and clearly showing a person inside to prevent spoilers. As a result, I'm wondering - what theories do you all have, based on what we know, as to how they function? Anything goes, so long as it's supported at least somewhat in game, and feel free not to read all of this before commenting, as what I'm about to go through is a god damned essay. But it is also a very detailed essay, so if you wanted any info as to how frames work, I guess here's a launching point for that. So without further ado, this is what I'm working from after six to seven years spent staring intently at at a monitor, doing literally anything other than studying:

Looking at the systems blueprint of any warframe, it's clear that it's representative of a skeleton. There's a clear collarbone and set of ribs visible, with a spine connecting it all. Looking at Xaku, however, won't actually reveal this structure anywhere on them, which to me implies that the systems are often directly implanted into the skeleton of a Warframe themselves. Now, Xaku isn't exactly a... normal... warframe, and so I'd be willing to wager that not all of the systems are present, instead just working through "void magic", and based on that, I can go on the assumption that all warframes contain a structure that at least superficially resemble that skeleton. Furthermore, whilst Xaku clearly has three different warframes making up their chassis, the skeleton is also just as clearly a single component, to me adding credence to the idea that warframe skeletons are all relatively similar, with similar (but not identical) shapes, and the same material across it, consisting of a tightly woven metal mesh. Plus, the systems blueprint only shows two ribs, but also shows an odd structure at the base of the spine, telling me that when crafting that component, all that's being made is the circuitry that's implanted into the frame's skeleton during infestation. As a result of these points, I'm quite confident that by finishing making a 3D render of the systems, and by slapping them onto Xaku's skeleton, we'd have a baseline on which to go from for all frames, ready to be customised individually when the time came around.

Power supply

Warframes clearly contain two power supplies, based on what we see in the Heart of Deimos quest. One being the Heart itself, providing a link to the void in order to power abilities and advanced, physics defying movement, and the other being designed to sustain basic functions such as comms, and simple, ordinary motion. The uplink to the Heart is actually really easy to design, as we already know what it looks like. The uplink would be directly connected to the systems, as they power abilities and such, and so all we need to do is get a clear look at some systems. Bringing out our old friend Xaku again, we can see that they have a small structure in their chest cavity with three glowing lines moving out in an inverted triangle pattern - the location on the skeleton where emissive effects are most prevalent. Now you may be thinking "Okay, cool, there's something that could be the Heart uplink, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it is the Heart uplink", which is a fair point, though if you look at the file containing Xaku's model, courtesy of DE themselves on their "content files and examples" page, importing the FBX into Blender allows you to see the oh-so-conveniently individually named components that make up Xaku, with the structure in the centre of the skeleton being not only classed as within the same object data as the skeleton (aka entirely separate from the armour pieces you can see around it), but is also straight up called the Heart. Whilst this probably means nothing, lorewise, as nobody was really intended to see this outside of Tennogen artists, I'm taking this name and running with it.
The second power supply is a little more complicated, however, as we don't actually see it anywhere in game that I know of. In this case, the power doesn't come from any form of void uplink, otherwise during the Heart of Deimos quest, we would have instantly had our frame shut down with no way to move it. Through this, it'd make sense that whatever is providing energy here is some sort of battery. Based on this, and the fact that almost all frames require them for crafting in some capacity, I'd venture to say that this secondary power supply is made out of Orokin cells. In addition, as the cells are only rarely used when building individual components of frames, but rather are mostly featured as the fourth component, being used alongside the systems, neuroptics, and chassis, it'd have it's own mounting beyond being included in those. Due to this, I'd say that the secondary power source is probably sandwiched between the infested material and remaining muscle of the host, and the chassis, fitted just below it. In my eyes, it makes the most sense for this to be most often fitted atop the warframe's shoulder blades, as that region seems to have little in the way of actual mechanical parts.

Movement capabilities

Warframes contain ordinary people within them, however featuring extremely hardened, metallic skin, and immensely tough muscular tissues. The infestation used to make them is defined as a "technocyte", as seen in the description of nano spores, which means that infested cells are essentially tiny artificial machines in a similar vein to isos (and funnily enough, considering that the sentients are manufactured through a dark black sludge referred to by the tenebrous ephemera as "sentient unlight", and that the Alkonost has the ability to "birth neuro-carnivorous memes directly into the brain stem" of an ally, which results in them taking on a more sentient appearance - the sentients). Whilst Caliban would likely be made more of unlight than helminth cells, most frames therefore are a mix of human and infested flesh, which has hardened to become a very tight bond. Movement, thus, is accomplished exactly as in an ordinary human - with muscles.
However, some more advanced maneuvers, such as bullet jumping or aim gliding, become disabled when the Warframe looses connection to the Heart of Deimos. In addition, these specific methods of locomotion have effects associated. In the case of a bullet jump, a small explosion is detonated near the feet of the frame to act as propulsion (moddable with elements, implying void shenanigans); and in the case of aim gliding, the effect of the lifted status effect appears, but instead pointed downwards. As the explosion created when bullet jumping is entirely blast damage, and it's almost inaudible, I'd be willing to go on the assumption that it's less an actual detonation, but more just a rapid application of force in all directions from the feet of the frame - sort of like a radial aim glide at the feet. Whatever that visual effect is, it clearly applies force in the direction it's pointing (downwards for aim gliding, upwards for the Orvius/lifted status, and backwards when the Heart emitted a large energy pulse in the Heart of Deimos quest). As the Heart was able to generate a pulse in the same way that a bullet jump does (radial application to all nearby), I'd go on the assumption that this is effectively just pure void energy, as it either mimics the colours of whatever it's near, or takes on the energy colour of the influencing tool. Due to this, frames must have some method by which they can efficiently and reliably transfer void energy to near the outside of the frame, that isn't necessarily visible above the frame's skin. To work this one out, I recommend we take a look at Valkyr.
Valkyr is pretty useful to us, as when captured by Alad V, he removed all of her skin to put it onto Zanuka. Because of this, we can see to an extent what the chassis beneath looks like that's on every other frame. Looking here, we can see small silver inlays all across her body that appear different to the corpus technology that was grafted onto her, ending in small lights, with the same silver being used as plating in her head (As in by looking at the plates that cover her skull, they're tipped in the same silver. This is to distinguish it from the "halo" and collar that she was given by the corpus). To me, these look to be the most likely candidate for the void energy channels. They resemble a sort of exposed wire, in contrast to the other wires seen on her body, which are very clearly still coated in a cyan material. As these appear to encircle her whole body, in some capacity, and otherwise serve no clear purpose beyond sort of just being there, it makes sense to me that void energy is sent from the Heart uplink and through this specific cabling to allow for this temporary levitation, and for bullet jumping.

Shielding is a short one, as we don't really ever see that much that indicates where it's generated from. What we do know, as a result of the Heart of Deimos quest, is that it's composed directly out of void energy. We also know that shield emitters are indeed a thing, as a result of Hildryn and her Balefire, but as for the construction of these, there's very little to go off of. Interestingly enough, these emitters appear to be biological in nature, as when Pillage is subsumed onto a Warframe, regardless of the frame that's using it, they will always have the pads appear atop their shoulders as a part of the animation, implying that Helminth augmented the frame to allow them to produce these. As these pads are also what allows Hildryn to roll, instead using a dash, and this isn't disabled by the destruction of the Heart, it implies that these aren't actually shields. This is also evidenced by the fact that Hildryn's dash doesn't affect her total shield count, and that Hildryn Einheri's shield blocks that comprise the skin are also not turned off when she runs out of shields. The Balefire, however, which does affect shield count, does make use of an emitter of almost identical design, and provides no defensive capability, does indeed become disabled when running low. This means that these emitters are capable of converting ordinary energy from orokin cells into a form of ineffective shielding that does little more than apply a slight force in a direction, however are also capable of using void energy to manufacture shielding constructs, such as a full protective barrier, or in the case of the balefire - a concentrated bolt. These emitters appear to essentially control where power is directed to on the frame, and how it's manifested. As a result, I believe that in some capacity, all frames outside of Xaku, Inaros, and Nidus make use of these emitters. Inaros and Nidus Lacking shields implies that they're using an alternate route by which they can cast abilities, and aren't at all employing emitters, meanwhile Xaku is almost completely corrupted and is more of a thrax than a warframe at this point, meaning their shielding likely come from the void tendrils somehow.

The chassis is quite interesting in my opinion, as Valkyr and Limbo both clearly demonstrate that there are a lot of components to a chassis. Focusing on Valkyr first, there appears to be a combination of four different components that are integrated directly into the chassis, each distinguished by colour - black, orange, cyan, and silver. We already discussed silver in the "Movement Capabilities" section, however the others all seem to actually have an apparent purpose.
As we know that armour is integrated as a part of the chassis, because it can't be a part of the other components beyond natural toughness, we should in theory be able to see it here. Conveniently, Valkyr also happens to be the second most armoured frame in the game right now, second only to the actual tank that is Lavos. Due to this, I don't think it's unreasonable to infer that (whilst the skin of a warframe is described as "sword-steel" by Ballas) the actual toughness of a frame comes as a result of the orange plating that surrounds most of her body. Whilst the crafting ingredients suggest it's made of an alloy, I'd actually argue that it's some sort of highly resilient polymer. The reason for this is that polymers can be just as strong as metals when it comes to resisting damage, plus they're far less likely to corrode when facing the threats that a Warframe would be expecting to face. Also, if we're going on the assumption that Helminth is assisting in crafting these frames due to the nature of their assembly, and that they aren't made exclusively of the materials listed in the crafting recipes (just in majority), then taking a look at the description of a secretion made by any synthetic compound within Helminth tells us that they "exude these rope-like strands of filament", which could feasably make highly resistent armour, without requiring so many resources that it becomes a crafting requirement.
Adding credence to this is the second most prevalent type of component that we can see. As the alloy used to craft Valkyr comes specifically from pellets of ferrite and morphics, it makes a lot more sense that these materials make up the black sections of her body, assuming a strong, dark alloy, rather than becoming somehow corroded, making armour that's already compromised through rust, explaining the orange colour that way. As for what these sections of the body are, to me they seem to be a less dense form of armour that forms long, interlocking plates along her body, allowing for free movement whilst still providing some modicum of protection. Despite not being as strong as the polymer armour, this would still provide an added layer of protection, which to me says that frames with higher armour likely employ the polymer in their design, whilst those with lower make use of armour predominantly made from alloys. In certain cases, such as with Valkyr or Lavos, both may be present in the design.
Lastly, Valkyr has several cyan wires visible on her body. As Alad V used her skin to plate Zanuka (implying that even the skin of a warframe, despite it being physically far weaker than the armour plating beneath, still offers relatively strong protection), we can infer that there had to be a reason that these cabling-like sections were left untouched, implying that they're somehow integral to the warframe's function. As these sections can be seen passing into and out of the chassis, this says to me that the wiring here is actually the cabling used for the secondary power supply, as it's insulated like an ordinary wire would be (side note, exactly how gross is it that the wire insulation is literally just made of the skin of the warframe? Like actual tubes of skin inside the flesh. Blech).

In the section regarding the chassis of a Warframe, I mentioned that both Valkyr and Limbo provide a good insight as to how warframes work under the hood, however I didn't get into Limbo. This is because, whilst Limbo has a fully intact chassis, he does appear to have several glass "portholes" on his body, through which a constant swarm of raging energy can be seen. This answers a couple of very important questions, which is "if warframes draw void energy from the heart to power their abilities, then how do they run out of energy? And when they run out of energy, why don't they also lose the ability to bullet jump and maneuver in the ways that they do like when the Heart broke down?". The answer to this, in my headcanon, is actually pretty sneaky. In two specific transmissions over the radio on the top floor of the orbiter, it's possible to hear a grineer authorising ships for punching to different planets, and in these transmissions they appear to be monitoring for traces of what they specifically refer to as "Tenno energy residue". Not Void energy. This never sat well with me, as everywhere else, they refer to void energy as completely separate. So I was left wondering - what is this residue we keep hearing about?
To answer this, we can take a look back at Hildryn. Previously, we discussed how warframes often make use of a special kind of emitter that allows void energy to be channeled into specific forms, which to me says that whilst the tenno are capable of controlling void energy and directing it into each specific region of the frame, they are incapable of innately producing complex void constructs without at the very least a hell of a lot of training. If it were the same between tenno and warframes, then the newly awakened tenno wouldn't be capable of using any abilities until they started earning focus points, which clearly isn't the case. Tenno can fully master a warframe and their range of abilities without having any idea how to use void energy effectively without a frame. So what gives? Well, to me the emitters show that to make complex use of void energy, it has to pass through some sort of sequencing medium first. In the case of these emitters, they can produce slightly more advanced constructs, such as bolts, beams, thrust and auras in the case of Hildryn, however innately won't produce complex forms on their own.
I would argue that one way to resolve this would be to treat "energy" as two things. Void energy is raw energy from the void itself, and essentially works as you'd expect, however Tenno energy is entirely different, and isn't even energy at all. In fact, in my eyes, Tenno energy could be viewed as a form of technocyte cloud. By taking technocyte cells and charging them with void energy (which we know can happen thanks to Deimos showing infestation beginning to glow blue in the presence of void energy), they can be sent through emitters and can produce far more refined abilities. This would explain not only how Warframes can cast such advanced abilities, but also how they can manifest physical objects like exalted weapons. Physical things can be made out of void energy, but the only place we see this happen in lore is exclusively through conceptual embodiment (the love of Belric and Rania; the trauma that made Duviri; and the fear felt by the Zariman crew), and unless Wukong's iron staff is but a metaphor for something much worse, it wouldn't make sense for this to be made from the same Void energy. Saying it was constructed out of a technocyte swarm charged with void energy, however, makes far more sense to me. This means that energy is fundamentally just charged technocyte clouds, ready to be used as abilities, stored within the frame, explaining how we can run out. Limbo's windows show this energy within them, almost like viewing panes into the energy cells.
One small snag is that Sevagoth throws a bit of a spanner in the works with this one, as the shadow is described as being "concentrated void energy" by Cy, and was manifested long before Sevagoth himself went missing. Whilst we could hand wave this and say that the shadow is a manifestation made because Sevagoth was already searching for people to rescue before he went missing, and it's a manifestation of that need to save people, it doesn't quite feel right to me, and I'd be interested to know your thoughts on this.

The dreaded neuroptics

Ah, neuroptics. The thing that drove the Warframe community nuts a while back trying to work out what it's supposed to look like. The thing is, I was watching this debate, and I realised that I disagreed with every single side on display. Neuroptics is clearly just a portmanteau of "Neuron" and "Optics", very heavily implying that it's a device designed to link the visual feeds of the warframes with the operators undergoing transference. This is very unlikely to be crafting the ability for the Warframe to see, simply due to the fact that the warframes already contain people who could already do that. That'd be like crafting leg muscles. We got those already. For the same reason, this couldn't be building a brain of some sort, because again, we already have one of those to work with. So far, so simple. Instead, it must be some sort of device designed to facilitate some form of optical interfacing directly with the brain, rather than building those things itself. The issue I'm having with the debate, however, is that everyone appeared to be saying that it resembles a helmet somehow, and that you're crafting the helmet of the frame when making this. To me, this... makes no sense at all. Whilst I can see why one may see this as a helmet, especially as it used to be referred to as such in the foundry, this has since been changed, meaning it can't be relied on for current lore. Plus, when crafting alternate helmets, they're now called helmets in game. As a result, if we were just making the warframe's helmet, wouldn't we just see the head of the warframe instead of this vague shape? Just like when we make any other helmet in the game? It feels to me like a bit of a weird continuity error if we look at it that way. Considering that this was a deliberate change made by DE to specifically stop calling this a helmet, on top of the fact that there are many other things referred to as helmets which just show the actual result as their icon, I think it's safe to say that that isn't what this is. Plus, Citrine is missing, like, half her head, and unlike Xaku, there are no implied random void rules that would allow her to be visually missing a component. Also you can see all the way down to Umbra's eye, and there's clearly nothing between the chassis and the skull but flesh.
So, what is it then? Well, I think an alternate way to look at this would be to instead on trying to figure out what this looks like, to try and figure out how it specifically works. In the picture we see a side view, whereas in the systems and chassis, we see the front. As a result, it's possible that the side that we're seeing is simply the most external part of the device. In my mind, this would be implanted on the temple of a warframe, and would interface directly with the brain to harvest optical information through some form of internal wiring/direct connection to the nervous system, and would also double as the method by which operators controlled the frames. As it was stated by Ballas, warframes are fitted with transference bolts to allow for control, and so it isn't entirely out of the question that the neuroptics are effectively a variation on the transference bolt that also allows for the operator to see through the warframe's eyes, explaining how Umbra/the operator was able to override the control Ballas had at the end of the Sacrifice quest. Overload the bolt, drowning out his signal, and you can stab him. This is very much just theory-crafting, however, as there is very little in-game information regarding the neuroptics, and almost nothing we can gather visually from the blueprint beyond its shape. Another thing I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts on.

If you guys have any further info or theories, or alternative ideas to those presented here, do tell! And if you just skipped to the end after seeing how long this was - fair enough, I have ADHD as well. I'm very interested to hear how you guys view this, and if I can get good enough with 3D modelling, I'd absolutely love to use this information to design some Tennogen based on it. There are probably some pretty cool designs you can do, and I'm already working on translating the systems blueprint icon into a full model around the size of an actual warframe's body, so as to employ variations of it when making future skins! Let me know your thoughts!

2023.06.10 04:31 ThumperPlease 30 [M4F] NY/Anywhere - Decent conversation, maybe gaming, maybe more?

Let's get the pictures/voice clip out of the way immediately so you know if I'm your type or not right? And to treat you with my adorable kitty.
Me rambling (Apologies for any lip smacking sounds):
Face sniffer extraordinaire:
I'm not as serious as I look, I swear:
Nothing like a cat butt on your head while trying to sleep:
Just a pic of the cute kitty:
ANYWAY. I'm Michael. I'm a single guy from New York (Not the city) looking for love or at least someone that will play games with me(PC). I'd ideally like someone that's empathetic, is into gaming(Not a must), animals, and voice chatting. I've noticed over the years that it's difficult to find people that put effort into communication, so it'd be nice to find someone that does.
To describe myself? I'd say I'm empathetic, easy going, talkative, competitive, and direct. I say how I feel and focus on communicating with my partner the best I can. As a partner; I'm nurturing, considerate, and affectionate. I want to make YOU happy because that would make me happy. My love languages would be all of them. I don't know how people can pick just a few. I like to do everything for the person I'm with.
When I'm not gaming; I like to exercise, play tag with my cat, watch horror movies, go for walks,, sing to myself, and practice doing voices cus that's fun for me.
Anywho, The games I'm currently playing (I'm open to most games tbh, so if you don't play these, that's okay!):
But yeah if you're looking for someone that's emotionally available, can cook, won't ghost you, and will spam you with pics of a very cute orange cat, I'm your guy. So, if my face appeals to you, send a message (if it isn't buggy) and tell me a bit about yourself! We might not fall in love or anything but I'll probably make you laugh at least once.
Thanks for reading 🙂

2023.06.10 04:21 cara1yn plumbing advice? changed some stuff around in the bathroom and now there's a sewer gas smell.

i'm currently renovating my bathroom and installed new tile flooring throughout. for reference, my home is on well water and has a septic tank. my toilet is a brand called American Standard and i'd estimate the bathroom was last renovated sometime in the early 90s.
the toilet had previously been installed directly to the subfloor, so we needed to extend the height of the flange to bring it over the tile. my parents helped me remove the toilet and old wax ring, add a toilet flange spacer and bolt it in place, then add a new wax ring, reinstall the toilet (had a little trouble at this point) and bolt it down, the toilet sat perfectly level didn't rock so we assumed things were fine. i waited a couple hours before caulking the rim and bolting down the plastic caps and waited for the sewer odor to disappear.... but it didn't.
my dad came out a second time and we began the whole process again. removed toilet and found that when we were re-placing the toilet, we had bumped into the metal center pipe of the wax ring and bent it out of shape, which we attributed to causing the leakage of sewer gas. we replaced the wax ring again, added an additional flange extender stacked onto the first one (my dad had suspected the single spacer didn't give enough clearance over the tile), bolted them in placee, put the toilet down VERY carefully, and called it a day. again, i spent a few hours waiting for the smell to disperse, and while it's a lot better and less noxious than the first time.... it still smells like sewage. 😭
what are we doing wrong here, or, what should we be doing the next time we attempt this fix?
