2023.05.29 23:17 HumerusCapitellum Canyon Grizl v Grail: Would love to hear your thoughts and advice

Buying a new bike soon, budget is 3-3.5 k. I am looking for an all rounder that I can use for bikepackingas well as blasting gravel trails. I plan to purchase a second set of wheels and tires to convert it easily for road riding and touring with friends. I am also very interested in longevity of the bike and for it to hold its value as best it can. I live in Southern California and am planning on taking numerous trips over the next 5-6 years up and down the west coast with a combination of road riding as well as using motor vehicles and Amtrak to move up and down the west coast to start tours and bike packing trips.
I have seen online and heard that the Grail is the "All rounder" of choice, but I would like to explore national parks and ride on some more technical and challenging MTB trails as well as light gravel and the road. For this the Canyon website recommends the Grizl, and this also aligns with my bike packing aspirations since it has more mounting points.
I would sincerely appreciate any advice or anecdotes to help me make this decision, I am recovering from knee surgery right now and cycling is now my endurance sport of choice as it is far better for the knees compared to running.

BABY’S ARM HOLDING AN APPLE
By YippieYiYi
CHAPTER 1
The Bird of Paradise had been on the front steps for a year and wasn’t getting enough sun, it hadn’t produced a single flower. I got the two-wheeler, but couldn’t get the pot on by myself. There’s a young guy on the sidewalk walking towards me. He’s got on one of those yellow visibility vests, no shirt underneath, a pair of black nylon basketball shorts and heavy work boots. He’s carrying a backpack over one shoulder. He must work for the city. He’s tall and thin with a wiry body. It’s hard to see his face, he’s got a baseball cap on with a Florida Gator’s logo, and a pair of dark sunglasses.
“Hola”
“Hola yourself, I was born here.”
“Sorry, can you give me a hand moving this plant?”
“Yeah, sure.”
I hold the dolly and he pushes the plant onto it so I can tip it back. I push it to the backyard, he follows and helps get if off.
“Where do you want it?”
“In the corner, it’ll get a lot more sun there.”
He wiggles it into place and says “How’s that?”
“Perfect! Thanks a lot! Can I offer you a beer?”
“Sure.”
He follows me into the house and I motion to the couch. The soccer game is still on the TV.
I grab a couple of Dos Equis and sit next to him.
“What’s your name?”
“Carlos.”
“Hi, Carlos. I’m Rick. Do you work for the city?”
“Yeah, Public Works.”
“Cool. What do you do?”
“Whatever they tell me. Usually just put out traffic cones, stand with a flag to warn people to slow down, sometimes dig ditches.”
“You live in the neighborhood?”
“Yeah, I just moved back with my mom for summer break, she’s on the next block. I don’t have a car so my boss pics me up and drops me off in front of the church.”
“How old are you?”
“19”
He takes off his hat and sunglasses and puts them on the coffee table. I can see his face now. Beautiful soft features, a wispy mustache, and long straight hair he had tucked under the hat. His skin is cafe-au-lait, probably tanned darker from being in the sun all day. He’s skinny, but his muscles are defined. I try not to stare, but I can’t help it. There’s a large bulge in the front of his shorts, but I’m pretty sure it’s his cell phone.
“I didn’t mean to insult you assuming you spoke Spanish, but you do look Latino, and a lot of the road crews just speak Spanish”
“Nah, I was just playing with you. Both my parents are from Columbia, but I was born here. I speak enough to get by, but I’d probably be lost if I ever went there. We don’t speak Spanish at home. It just took me by surprise, I go to FSU, everyone there assumes I must speak English.”
He’s lying back on the couch, the vest wide open, his arms crossed behind his head, looking completely relaxed. I see a beautiful happy trail leading down his shorts and tufts of dark hair under his arms, but try to distract myself with the soccer game.
“You want another beer?”
“Sure”
I head to the kitchen, grab the beers and a can of mixed nuts.
I put the nuts on the coffee table and he grabs a handful. I don’t think he’s really watching the soccer game, it’s a re-cap of the 2022 World Cup. I see him looking around the room.
“Where’s the head?”
“That door there”
The bathroom opens right onto the living room, one thing I didn’t like about the house when I was house-hunting, but it was in a great neighborhood close to the beach. I can hear him pissing, a really strong stream like young guys have. He didn’t close the door. I hear a piece of toilet paper torn, he must be wiping the tip of his dick. I like when guys do that, I always do. I’m the type that washes my hands before I piss so I don’t get my dick dirty. He flushes then washes his hands.
“I hope you don’t mind I used your towel in there.”
He settles back on the couch, doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to go anywhere.
“You wanna smoke a joint?” he asks.
“Sure, I’ve got a little time. I don’t have to be at work for a couple hours.”
“Where do you work?”
“I work a couple nights a week at Massage Envy downtown. I’m a critical care nurse but I needed a break after the pandemic, and I had my massage license anyway. That’s how I put myself through nursing school.”
“How’d you end up in this little town?”
“My father passed recently. I ended up inheriting enough money to move out of the state and buy a house. I had vacationed here and loved it, so I decided to move here. I love being able to walk to the beach and downtown.”
“You own the house?”
“Yeah”
“Shit, how old are you?”
“27”
“No way! You’re 27, own your own house, and work just a couple nights a week? Must be nice.”
“Like I said, I inherited some money. I still don’t know where it all came from, my parents never had much. My mother passed away a while ago, then after my dad died, I started getting statements from all these investment accounts in his name. It’s enough to take a break, but I’m going to have to get a job eventually, not sure if I’ll go back to nursing, though, I’m thinking maybe something else, just not sure what.”
Carlos lights the joint and passes it to me. I take a hit and get up to get an ashtray. I take a couple more hits and sit down, passing the joint back to him. As I’m walking back to the couch I can’t help but notice how incredibly handsome he is, in that kinda sweet, kinda rough way that always gets me. We finish the joint and make small talk about the World Cup.
“You dropped a couple.”
Without thinking I reach over and brush the peanuts from his crotch. He grabs my hand, pushing it away, and glares at me. I was embarrassed and stunned (and stoned). Slowly the glare turned into a small smile, and he put my hand back.
I was struck dumb, but started feeling his crotch. It wasn’t his cell phone. I was rubbing up and down through the fabric and felt it swell.
“Here, let me make it easier”
Carlos raised his butt and lowered his shorts and boxers to his knees and sat back down. His boxers were black with yellow smiley faces.
“Jeez! That thing’s as big as a baby’s arm holding an apple!”
Carlos burst out laughing. “What did you say?”
“I said your dick’s as big as a baby’s arm holding an apple. You’ve never heard that expression?”
“No, never. I guess us Spanish speakers don’t use it” he kidded.
“Maybe it’s a regional euphemism, it sounds southern though. Not sure where I first heard it.”
I swear, this guy was packing. Not only thick, but long, and the head was massive. I couldn’t stop staring. He was holding it and asked me to jerk him off. I turned towards him and put both my hands on it and started pumping. He grabbed the back of my head and forced it down. I got the head in my mouth but there was no way I was going to take any more. I kept pumping with my hands and he quickly came. I couldn’t swallow fast enough, my mouth filled and his cum spilled out of my lips onto the couch.
“God, I needed that. I don’t usually fool around with guys, but you seem cool.”
He pulled an elastic from his pocket, tied his hair back and told me to stand up. I stood in front of him and he dropped my shorts and started kissing my thighs. He took his time, licking and sucking my balls till he finally started on my dick. There was a thread of pre-cum he pulled off and wiped on his shorts. I’d never been too concerned with my dick size, it seemed pretty good and I’d never had any complaints, but I felt like a little kid compared to his.
“Sorry I’m not as big as you.” I felt stupid as soon as I said it.
“Shut up, it’s a pain. No one can blow me, and my girlfriend only lets me put it halfway in. Worst part is when I take a dump, I’ve got to hold it up so it doesn’t hang in the toilet water. Yours is the perfect size for blowing and fucking, so don’t get all self-conscious on me.”
“You have a girlfriend?”
“Shut up and let me blow you.”
So I did. He licked it clean and pulled up my shorts and started zipping them.
“No!”
I don’t trust anyone pulling a zipper up anywhere near my dick. I got the foreskin caught in it once when I was a kid and can still feel the pain.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be careful with this beauty, I’m gonna want to use it again I think.”
“What about this girlfriend?”
“Just a girl I was seeing at school, we went out together a lot, but I think it was more of a FWB deal. She lives in California so I won’t see her till next fall. Why she wanted to go to college in Florida is beyond me.”
“I’ve gotta get ready to go to work, you wanna stop by tomorrow on your way home?”
He smiles. “Sure.”
“So I guess you’ll be massaging a bunch of hot guys tonight, huh?”
“Fat chance. I’ve got three bookings, two women and one man, all over 70. One has sciatica, the other scoliosis, and the guy has weakness in his legs so I stretch and massage them to stimulate the nerves.”
I shower to get the smell of beer and pot off me, and grab a bite to eat before heading over to the massage studio.

2023.05.29 22:50 London-Roma-1980 NON CONFERENCE MATCHDAY 10 RESULTS

Strap in, everyone, because we have a long road ahead of us. In addition to the NINE games between Top 25 teams, FOUR upsets happened. That's right, the Top 25 was below .500 in its entirety today. So let's see how they did it.
*****
#1 UCLA 90, #9 Syracuse 79. The key to beating a 2-3 zone is to shoot over it. Fortunately for the Bruins, they can.
Reggie Miller had 25 points and led an onslaught that included 13 three-pointers as the Bruins (10-0) took out the Orange (8-2) to maintain their winning streak, now at 47 games and counting.
"The shots were falling tonight," Miller said after the game. "We got what we wanted in terms of looks, and we got them to go in."
In addition to Miller's 5 three-pointers, Russell Westbrook had 3, Kiki Vandeweghe had 2, and Gail Goodrich, Kevin Love, and Jrue Holiday each had one. Syracuse, for their part, shot well, with Carmelo Anthony hitting six threes on his own to get to 22 total points, but it wasn't enough.
"They're #1 for a reason," Orange coach Jim Boeheim said.
#8 Michigan 68, #4 Duke 61. The Power Five have been cracked.
Michigan's defense held Duke to 29% shooting and Juwan Howard led the way with 16 points as the Wolverines (9-1) stunned the Blue Devils (8-2) before a court-storming crowd at Michigan Court.
"This is why you play the game," Howard said amidst a crowd of fans. "We shook up the world tonight. We wanted this one. You beat Duke, you've done good!"
Grant Hill led the Devils with 13 points, but the entire team struggled.
"We were cold tonight," Hill said. "Props to Michigan; their defense smothered us. Not much you can do."
#3 Kentucky 67, #2 North Carolina 64. Who do you call on when you have everyone? Someone's bound to be open, and such was the case here.
Louie Dampier found Devin Booker in the corner as time expired, and the Wildcats (9-1) stunned the Tar Heels (8-2) to send them to their second last-second defeat of the non-conference season.
"We ran a pick and roll off the ball to get [Michael] Jordan off of me and get me open," Booker said, recounting the final play. "Louie knew where I was, he got the pass off after driving for the double... everything just fell into place."
Both teams turned up the defense in this one. Dan Issel led Kentucky with 15 points, while Jordan led North Carolina with 13. Outside shooting was particularly hard to go by, as Booker's winner was only the fifth three-pointer of the game combined.
"We did almost everything right," Tar Heels coach Dean Smith said after the game. "Almost."
#5 Kansas 75, #14 Arizona 59. The top teams have shown anyone can step up at any time. Kansas proved it tonight.
Kirk Hinrich caught fire, getting 20 points with five three-pointers, as the Jayhawks (9-1) knocked off the Wildcats (7-3) to produce a potential future matchup with Kentucky.
"We've been seeing how other teams have done," Hinrich said. "It's important we keep winning. We want that last one seed when the dust settles."
Mike Bibby had 15 points, but also committed 8 turnovers as JoJo White's defense proved to be too much for him.
"I had a bad day," Bibby admitted. "This loss is on me."
Arkansas 90, #23 Iowa 83. Are they going to be ranked now? It's not certain what else has to be done.
Joe Johnson went off for 24 points and the full-court pressure held Fred Brown to 5 points as the Razorbacks (8-2) pulled off their second straight top-25 upset, this time knocking off the Hawkeyes (7-3).
"We're just going to keep playing the way we're capable of and we'll be in good shape," Johnson said. "We got off to a slow start, but now we're showing the world what we're capable of."
Don Nelson led the Hawkeyes with 18 points.
#12 Connecticut 92, #21 Alabama 80. A quick rise to the top by the Tide made people wonder if the SEC would have a wild race. Now, it looks like this Tide is receding.
Andre Drummond had 19 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Huskies (8-2) to a big road win over the Tide (7-3) that may solidify them as favorites in the Big East.
"We had an advantage inside, and we knew we could use it," Huskies coach Jim Calhoun said after the game. "We needed this win, you know? A chance to show the Big East still goes through us."
Alabama attempted to turn up the pace against the big men of Connecticut, but Kemba Walker and Ray Allen were able to break the press on offense. On defense, super sub Richard Hamilton helped slow down the opposition, getting 4 steals in the second half.
Latrell Sprewell led the Tide with 18 points.
#9 Notre Dame 67, #17 DePaul 65, OT. Most of the game was a battle inside. But it was outside shooting from a very unlikely source that won the game.
John Paxson hit two three-pointers late in overtime to lead the Fighting Irish (8-2) to an overtime victory over the Blue Demons (7-3).
"All of our players can contribute," coach Digger Phelps told reporters after the game. "We hear a lot about Adrian Dantley and Bill Laimbeer, but we're a team of stars. We feel we can beat anyone."
With the game tied at 58 nearing the end of regulation, George Mikan looked to have won the game with a hook shot. However, before he could shoot, he was whistled for a three-second violation. Paxson's heroics in overtime then meant the difference.
"I lost track of time," a dejected Mikan said in the locker room. "I'm sorry, Blue Demon fans."
#25 Illinois 66, #19 Georgetown 56. Illinois coach Lou Henson wanted to focus on defense as much as offense. It's safe to say his team was ready to respond.
A focused effort held Allen Iverson scoreless on the day as the Illini (8-2) stunned the Hoyas (7-3) in a defensive struggle with neither team able to get open shots most of the day.
"That's what I was hoping for," Henson said after the game. "We wanted to get our defensive strength before we faced teams like Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota... I think today we showed we can win ugly as well as win beautifully."
Derek Harper, who led all scorers with 17 points, was the primary responsibility, but Iverson found himself constantly double-teamed with Donnie Freeman and Deron Williams. While Iverson did wind up with 9 assists, the shutout clearly bothered him, as he picked up a late technical foul arguing a no-call.
"We need to work on getting Allen involved more," Hoyas coach John Thompson admitted. "You can't just win inside in this game."
Cincinnati 81, #18 LSU 60. Maybe the adjustment from the AAC to the Big XII will be easier than we were led to believe.
Oscar Robertson had a triple-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists, while Jack Twyman had 21 points as the Bearcats (8-2) stunned everyone by trouncing the Tigers (7-3) in front of the Cats' home fans.
"That was an incredible win," Bearcats coach Ed Jucker said after the game. "They kept talking about their starting five, but today we showed you need a lot of depth to get anywhere. We got that depth and we got a chance to win it all. I hope Kansas is paying attention -- they're not sweeping us this season."
Defense also proved to be a big deal. Robertson and Nick Van Exel constantly switched off on Pete Maravich, holding the scoring machine to only 8 points on the day. Bob Pettit was able to take some advantage to score 17 points, but the Tigers had no help from the bench, as the Cats' bench outscored the Tigers' reserves 21-3.
"Gotta be more than the first five," center Shaquille O'Neal said after the game. "We can only do so much and if one of us is in trouble, we gotta get stepping up."
#15 Southern Cal 78, #16 Maryland 55. Don't sleep on the Trojans now. When they're going against teams in the second and third tier, they are deadly.
Bill Sharman led all scorers with 24 points as the Trojans (8-2) steamrolled the Terrapins (7-3) to make a statement about their goals for this season.
"We think we can steal a Final Four spot," coach Sam Barry said after the game. "Today proved we have the talent to do it. If the shots fall, we can beat anyone."
Gene Shue led the Terrapins with 13 points.
#6 Michigan State 61, #13 Texas 60. The Longhorns seem to be willing to live and die by Kevin Durant. The Spartans knew it when it mattered.
Draymond Green knocked away a pass intended for Durant on the final play of the game to preserve a victory for the Spartans (8-2) over the Longhorns (7-3) on the road in a critical matchup.
"We saw where they were going, we knew they had one big star and if we denied him, we didn't think anyone else could step up," Green said after the game. "I know how to beat Durant, we know how to win the game, and we're just that good."
Magic Johnson had 14 points and 7 assists to lead the Spartans. Durant, for his part, led all scorers with 21 points, but couldn't get the last two, as Avery Bradley's inbound was knocked away.
"Close isn't good enough in crunch time," Durant said to reporters.
NC State 74, #20 Minnesota 65. Last year, the Wolfpack were controversially sent to the NIT despite going 18-14 in the toughest schedule in the country. If they keep winning, they may take it out of the committee's hands when all is said and done.
JJ Hickson had 5 blocks of Kevin McHale on the day and David Thompson scored 20 as the Wolfpack (8-2) stunned the Golden Gophers (7-3) to pick up a road win.
"We deserve to be ranked, and we deserve to be in the [NIBL] tournament," Thompson said after the game. "We've said all year our goal is to be undeniable. If we qualify for selection, we're going to make sure they have to take us. That means winning a lot in non-con, and that's what we're doing."
With Thompson driving and causing collapses of the defense, the outside shooters also had their chances. Spud Webb and Tom Gugliotta hit three three-pointers each over the Gopher defense.
"This was a bad day," said McHale, who despite being blocked led the Gophers with 14 points.
Villanova 79, #24 UNLV 78. Villanova likes to play slower, while UNLV likes to speed it up. Villanova, it turned out, did just enough to keep the Rebels from getting the win.
Randy Foye had 20 points and Kyle Lowry blocked Ricky Sobers' last second putback attempt as the Wildcats (8-2) held off the Runnin' Rebels (6-4) to most likely knock the last mid-major out of the Top 25.
"Our backcourt carried this one," Villanova coach Jay Wright said after the game. "We wanted to show that Paul [Arizin] had backup, and that's what we were able to get. Everyone played their role, and we kept this team -- a very good offensive team -- to just enough to take the win.
On the final play, Sobers inbounded to leading scorer Shawn Marion (18 points). His three pointer was off the mark, and in the scramble, Sobers got the loose ball. He tried a quick shot to beat the horn, but Lowry was ready.

2023.05.29 22:27 Professional_Elk1921 Need a school list for the 2024-2025 application cycle, Also advice for ares of improvement

Hey guys, first time posting here. So, I just graduated college after 3 years this May (was in an early college in high school) and I genuinely want some honest feedback on my application chances for right now and where I should shoot in terms of MD schools. I will be applying for 2024-2025 cycle.
I have ties to New York, born and raised in Long Island move to North Carolina when I was a freshman in high school, however a big chunk of my family and godmother lives in downstate New York still. Also have ties to central and southern Florida as another big chunk of family lives there too. (I have a big family as you see). And my immediate family live in NC.
I'm looking for a solid school list that’s in these 3 states or very close at least. Also, preferably downstate New York or states close to there.
Here's my stats for context:
uGPA: 3.62 sGPA: 3.45 strong upwards trend MCAT: 520
So, I would have to calculate my cGPA due to the dual enrollment courses taken in high school. I didn’t do as great in high school but I was 16-17 and not as mature then. So, my cGPA might actually sit at 3.4-3.5. I'm not sure how much my high school dual enrollment affects my application but please let me know!
Major: Public Health with a conc. in pre-health
Goals: to serve my community, advocate for health equity, leadership in medicine, work in underserved communities
non-Trad student, just graduated this may but will apply next year
NC resident, URM - Black (Caribbean), Latina (Caribbean)
Clinical paid: 1000 hours in urgent care in an underserved area will have 2000+ by the time of application
Non-clinical volunteering: 900 hours as group leader for kids at my church (have been doing it since high school) will probably be at 1000+ by the time of application.
Research - I did nonclinical research on STDs among college students for a semester approved by the Institutional Review Board. This research was required for my class so idk if this counts.
Shadowing - none yet, working on getting those.
Other ECs/Leadership:
Leadership: was an Ambassador for my Major for a year
was in a minority pre-health honor society for 2 years
was in 2 school non-profit organization of young professional and collegiate students who dedicate the time to push towards the advancement of women of color
Was also in Modeling organization at my school as well (really stepped out my comfort zone here lol)
hobbies
love traveling: have been exposed to many different cultures from this. (that and from being from New York too.)

2023.05.29 22:22 hashm4p Feel like I bombed the round 2 code screening

Hey all,
Short story long, I'm a jr dev with 18 months on the job experience with a 4yr Bsc in Computer Science.
I am lucky enough to be working withim an org with decent wlb, good team and decent pay etc - but the product I support just doesn't interest me in the slightest (stock trading domain).. Its probably also worth to mention that it's taken me probably a full year tp really get to grips with the "why" of the business domain and to learn how the app does what it does..
I got word of an opening on a team in a totally separate part of the business which supports a product area that I would have far more interest in (and general knowledge of) so I decided to interview for it.
2 round interview in 2 parts
The first q I was presented with I totally froze up on - it was involving splitting a List into subsets according to various criteria and performing some sorting on the resultant ones.. After about 10 mins in of poorly describing some pseudocode steps I decided that I just wasn't going to get this, I was feeling the mounting pressure and was blanking hard - I caved to the pressure and told them that I'd been revising some Hackerrank challenges but that I was just blanking on this.
To their credit they quickly swapped it out for another new challenge (I guess they either intended for me to take two, or they had a backup ready for perhaps this scenario?)
Thankfully, second challenge was easier, finding index of unique character in a string - some basic string manipulation, looping and conditional checking... With a few nudges, got this to 95% completed before we ran out of time.
We did not get to run test cases as there was a few q's the Principal said he wanted to ask before the wrap up instead of fixing the last of the code, which he asked and I was able to answer fine (Java 8 features etc) - and that was that, over with and done
Ive never done a coding interview before like this as I got my current role from a college placement so it was a new experience and I've nothing to compare it to.
My simple question is - how bad was it? My gut tells me blanking the first q probably wrote me off and the second q which wasn't perfect was just a formality for them..
Anybody got any insights of even equal horror stories to make me feel slightly better? :)
Thanks!

2023.05.29 22:17 whatuhjokester How do i focus?

So i’m going to be going to public school in August for my junior year (scared asf because junior year is supposed to be the hardest and main one colleges focus on) but i’m still technically homeschooled so i need to finish as many credits as i can til the end of the school year (idek when that is)
So i’ve never done well in homeschool. there’s been episodes of me doing well, but they never last more than a week. so i’m incredibly behind in my work and credits, not even counted as a sophomore in this system.
so my credits is just packets i need to do online and then turn in online, easy right? i can just sit down and do a ton and be done. or graduate in 2 months of pure work, so ideal! not for me.
i’ve never been able to focus on my work, as soon as i open a credit on my laptop and try to read the instructions, i’ll sit there for maybe 20 mins trying to understand what i’m doing. I can read the lines over 40 times and still not retain the knowledge of the sentence, i’ve tried writing down everything i read and it doesn’t help either. i’ll try and go on in the credit and revisit the text to help, but then i’ll forget what the question is. i don’t know what to do. it feels like my mind is incapable of focusing on things i’m not interested in. and i’ve done the “okay i have no choice i need to do this” mindset which somewhat works, until there’s a question i don’t really know the answer to.
i don’t know, i feel like i have ADHD but i’m in therapy and i get told its a symptom of depression and anxiety, i can’t even focus on topics i WANT to learn about, i can’t seem to retain anything. i want to amount to something academically, idk what to do.
i want to just avoid this school until i enroll in august but that might make me retake sophomore year so i don’t know what to do.
help?

2023.05.29 22:06 JoelSnape An introduction to the Saturn Polar Configuration (for those who may be new to the subject)

An introduction to the Saturn Polar Configuration (for those who may be new to the subject)
In his groundbreaking book ‘The Saturn Myth’ (inspired by the work of Immanuel Velikovsky who has correspondence with Albert Einstein about his ideas) researcher David Talbott analyzed myths from ancient cultures around the world and found that they all described the same phenomenon surrounding Saturn. He found that symbolism for Saturn is the same throughout ancient Mesopotamia, India, Greece, the Americas, and Egypt — and as documented by ancient cultures, explains how there was once a celestial alignment involving Saturn that occurred thousands of years ago. Based on ancient accounts throughout the world, Talbott describes a period of “great upheaval” in celestial bodies, when Saturn, Venus, and Mars descended and aligned overhead Earth in a spectacular astronomical event dubbed the “Saturn Polar Configuration”. As Talbott says in ‘The Saturn Myth’: “[The Saturn Polar Configuration is] the idea based on comparative mythology, that the Earth was once in close proximity, or even a satellite of the planet Saturn”. During this celestial upheavel, Mars descended from its position in the sky and formed a connection or stairway to Saturn which became known by the ancients as the heaven-sustaining giant Atlas, Mount Olympus, and the Tower of Babel, inter alia. Various cultures around the world recorded this celestial stairway. For example, the Makirtare Indians of the Amazonian rainforest tell of a time where the hero Ahishama, identified as Mars, climbed a stairway to Heaven. The Mesopotamian god Nergal also climbed a stairway to Heaven and was identified as Mars. Talbott calls this stairway the “Cosmic Mountain”. There are various illustrations of how this alignment would have looked here.
COSMIC MOUNTAIN TO SATURN
During this time of celestial upheaval, Saturn and the other bodies that were aligned with it went through various configurations in the sky (see the documentary series ‘Discourses on an Alien Sky’) and at one point the light emanating from Venus behind Mars formed what appeared to be a pupil inside a triangle that Talbott associates with the All-Seeing-Eye. As Talbott explains in ‘The Saturn Myth’: “It’s impossible to pursue Saturn’s ancient image without encountering the paradise of Eden, the lost Atlantis, or the All-Seeing-Eye of heaven”. The Saturn Polar Configuration was mostly characterized by an 8-pointed star or 8-spoked wheel. Here is an image of Saturn holding an 8-spoked wheel (as shown in ‘Discourses on an Alien Sky’). The crescent under Saturn was morphed and anthropomorphized. The Saturn-crescent was morphed into wings — with the solar disc (Saturn) placed in the centre, such as with the Egyptian winged Kheper. Quote from ‘The Saturn Myth’: “Of the crescent in the primary images and ancient sources present these basic forms: The horns of the bull-god or the uplifted arms of the heaven-sustaining giant [such as Atlas]. The outstretched wings of the mother goddess (or winged god). But these same wings, or arms, constitute the great god’s sailing vessel [Saturn Ship] which in turn is depicted as two shining horns”. As Talbott points out in ‘The Saturn Myth’, the fundamental themes of Saturn imagery include the the Saturn Ship, the All-Seeing-Eye, the two sacred pillars of Heaven (morphed into the Hercules and Masonic pillars) — the two shining horns and uplifted arms of the heaven-sustaining giant which were all based on the same celestial alignment in the sky.

The 8-pointed star (as seen in the Saturn Polar Configuration and as shown above) is a symbol of Freemasonry. The Masonic image below has a circle inside the 8-pointed star (called the circumpunct — an ancient symbol of the Sun). In his book ‘Morals and Dogma’, 33 degree Freemason Albert Pike connects the ancient Sun to the All-Seeing-Eye and the Masonic Blazing Star, saying: “The Blazing Star has been regarded as an emblem of Omniscience, or the All-Seeing-Eye, which to the ancients was the Sun”. This is curious, because we know that the ancients considered Saturn to be the Sun — as explained by Talbott in ‘The Saturn Myth’. The Babylonians associated Saturn with the Sun (as “son of Shamash” and “star of Helios”) and the name for Saturn in Chaldean astronomy was Alap-Shamas, meaning “Star of the Sun”. In the article ‘Saturn as the Sun of Night in Ancient Eastern Tradition’, Peter James says, “attested in Mesopotamia and followed by the Greeks and Hindus, there’s a long-standing association with Saturn as the Sun”. Troy McLachlan, says, in his book ‘The Saturn Death Cult’: “The ancients did indeed see a Sun-like object residing in their skies — and that object was Saturn”. According to political scientist Alfred De Grazia in his book ‘Homo Schizo: Human Nature’, Isaac Vail (who was an amateur scientific theorist) connected the All-Seeing-Eye (which remember was the Masonic Blazing Star) to the Saturn Polar Configuration, saying: “The All-Seeing-Eye is one of the earliest and most nearly universal symbols. Isaac Vail believed that the primordial eye was the boreal opening from which Saturn on his throne looked down upon his domain”. The letter G in the image below takes the place of Venus in the Saturn Polar Configuration. 33 degree Freemason Arthur Waite quotes famous occultist Eliphas Levi telling us that the letter “G” stands for Venus (see his book ‘The Mysteries of Magic: A Digest of the Writings of Eliphas Levi’).

During the various configurations of the Saturn Polar Configuration that produced various visual characteristics, the smaller orb of Venus (and also at different times Mars which produced a darker dot as shown here from ‘Discourses on an Alien Sky’) appeared as a circumpunct that passed in front of the larger orb of Saturn. As Talbott explains in ‘The Saturn Myth’: “From one section of the world to another the planet-god’s worshippers drew pictures of the Saturnian Configuration and these pictures become the universal signs and symbols of antiquity. In the global lexicon of symbols, the most common images are the enclosed Sun [the ancient Sun corresponding to Saturn according to Talbott] and the enclosed Sun cross . It appears that every ancient race revered these signs”. Author Dan Brown explains the circumpunct as follows: “In the idiom of symbology, there was one symbol [the circumpunct] that reigned supreme above all others. The oldest and most universal, this symbol fused all the ancient traditions in a single solitary image that represented the illumination of the Egyptian Sun-god, the triumph of alchemical gold, the wisdom of the Philosopher’s Stone, the purity of the Rosicrucian Rose, the moment of Creation, the All, the dominance of the astrological Sun, and the omniscient All-Seeing-Eye that hovered atop the unfinished pyramid”. According to Wikipedia: “Throughout history, the circumpunct has been all things to all people — it’s the Sun-god Ra, alchemical gold, and the All-Seeing-Eye”. In ‘The Saturn Myth’, Talbott identifies Ra as Saturn, saying: “One finds of interest an Egyptian ostrakon (1st century B.C.) cited by Franz Boll: The ostrakon identifies the planet Saturn as the great god Ra”. The circumpunct can be seen in Freemason artwork (as shown below). The image on the bottom right is an illustration of the Saturn Polar Configuration from the documentary ‘Symbols of an Alien Sky’ (with Venus as the luminous dot).

The luminous U-shape created by the Saturn-crescent became morphed into pillars. Talbott says in ‘The Saturn Myth’ when explaining the twin-pillar or twin-peaked crescent of the Saturn Polar Configuration: “In all ancient myths of the lost paradise, the land of peace and plenty rests upon a cosmic pillar — “Earth’s highest mountain”. One of the peculiarities of the Mount is that it possesses two peaks, rising to the right and left of the central column. The Egyptian Mount of Glory (Khut) reveals two peaks between which rests the Aten or enclosed Sun 𓈌. Depicted by this sign are “the two great mountains on which Re appears”. And what is most interesting about the Egyptian symbol of the cleft peak 𓈋 is that it finds strikingly similar parallels in other lands. The Mesopotamian Sun-god rests upon a twin-peaked world mountain of identical form and the same dual mount occurs also in Mexico — here too revealing the Sun-god between the two peaks. In Hebrew and Muslim thought “the mountain of paradise is a double one” observes Wensinck. To the Hebrews Sinai, Ebol, and Gerezim were all conceived as images of a twin-peaked mountain, states Jeremias. In the primeval Tyre (paradise) according to the description of Nonnus, a “double rock” rises from the ocean. In its centre is an olive (the central Sun) which automatically emits fire, setting it in a perpetual blaze. The Syrian and Hittite great gods stand equally balanced upon two mountains. In the beginning, according to a central Asiatic legend related by Uno Holmberg, “there was only water, from which the two great mountains emerged”. From the central mount of Hindu cosmology rise two secondary peaks. Of course, the twin pillars of Hercules point to the same idea”. In his book ‘Mortal Jigsaw Puzzle’, Grieving Patriot says: “In ancient history, this twin pillar construct is also referred to as the pillars of Hercules, a gateway beyond which lay the path to enlightenment”.

This same symbol is seen throughout the ancient world such as the Phoenician Tanit symbol where the Saturn-crescent has become fully morphed into pillars:
https://preview.redd.it/6bus33k7bv2b1.png?width=220&format=png&auto=webp&s=c0fe6fd3b9553294d3fabfbb66cbb46885c86e25
The symbols above became the basis for Freemason Tracing Boards showing the Blazing Star placed between two pillars:
https://preview.redd.it/478ni6s9bv2b1.png?width=430&format=png&auto=webp&s=096f861563619f6a8a60cd69bc57e87eaced8d8c
In ‘The Saturn Myth’, Talbott corresponds the Saturn Polar Configuration to a gateway, saying: “The god “comes out” and “goes in” on the [Saturnian] mountaintop through the “gate”, but he accomplishes this without moving from his fixed abode”. Talbott also cites Coffin Text talking about how the Saturn Polar Configuration was a portal. The text reads: “I did four good deeds within the portal of the Mount of Glory. I made the four winds that every man might breathe”. Talbott explains that the sign 𓈌 is the Mount of Glory. This is the same sign given by Talbott for the Saturn Polar Configuration. Talbott expands on the idea that the Saturn Polar Configuration was a kind of gate in his article here in which he says: “One of the archetypal forms I had discussed involved the global myths and symbols of the “Chain of Arrows”, a theme inseparably connected to another archetype, the “Ladder of Heaven”. As the story was told, a great warrior launches arrows into the sky, each embedding itself in the one above to form a ladder or stairway to the land of the gods”. The Saturn Polar Configuration went through various configurations that produced various visual characteristics, but was mostly characterized by an 8-pointed star. The 8-pointed star was known as the “Cross of Ilu” or “Bab-Ilu” which means “Gate of God”. According to investigative mythologist William Henry, author of over 18 books in alternative science, the 8-pointed star represented a portal or a Gate of God, saying: “Wherever archaeologists discovered remains of the early Sumerian civilizations the symbol of the “Gate of the Gods” was prominently displayed. The Sumerians depicted this gate as an 8-pointed star”. Since the beginning of the written word, countless stories have begun by ripping holes in the fabric of reality and pulling their protagonists through. Portals date back to the oldest written text we have on record — the 4,000-year-old Sumerian tale Epic of Gilgamesh — in which the hero travels through a mountaintop portal to the land of the gods. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, the hero travels to the gate of the Sun-god Shamash at the mountain of Mashu.
The same 8-pointed star keyhole symbolism as the Saturn Polar Configuration is shown below on a Masonic stained-glass window:
https://preview.redd.it/oow7tgmhbv2b1.png?width=445&format=png&auto=webp&s=3fb43f1b14b2c6588e39e2ecd93aa0255508e922
Even though the Saturn Polar Configuration corresponds to the Masonic image above of the Blazing Star between the pillars, it’s generally assumed that the Blazing Star between the Masonic pillars is Sirius — not Saturn or Venus. Masonic historian Henry Coil says: “But whether the Blazing Star refers to Saturn or the Sun or some other heavenly body is not ascertainable”. In his book ‘Myth, Magick, and Masonry’, Jaime Lamb connects the Masonic Blazing Star to Venus, saying: “The Blazing Star’s relationship to Venus (also anciently known as the Morning Star) may best be illustrated by the fact that it’s represented in the form of a pentagram. This significance comes primarily from the fact that Venus traces [a perfect pentagram across the sky every eight years when observed from Earth”]. The fact that the Masonic Blazing Star is also sometimes represented by an 8-pointed star (as shown in the image above) might also point towards it being Venus. The Mesopotamian goddess Inanna was worshipped as the embodiment of Venus and her symbol was the 8-pointed star. In the 1875 of ‘Freemason’s Monthly Volume 6’, we read: “Venus, whose orbit is within but on a level with our own… is the brilliant “Blazing Star” that heralds the rising or attends the setting Sun”. While some argue that the Masonic Blazing Star is Venus, some have suggested that it could be Jupiter. The ancient Greeks knew Jupiter as Phaethon (Φαέθων) meaning “Shining One” or “Blazing Star”. Whether the Masonic Blazing Star is Sirius, Saturn, Venus, Jupiter, Alcyone, Aldebaran, the Moon, or some other heavenly body, it’s acknowledged by some that Freemasons misguide people as to the true meaning of their symbols. For example, the prominent Freemason, Albert Pike, said in his book ‘Morals and Dogma’: “Part of the symbols are displayed there to the initiate, but he is intentionally misled by false interpretations. It’s not intended that he shall understand them; but it’s intended that he shall imagine that he understands them”. Part of the problem is that much of what Freemasons are doing is buried under layers of armour-clad secrecy so many strata deep that only archaeologists of the distant future will have any hope of disinterring any of these things.
The Egyptian symbol of the Ankh was based on the Saturn Polar Configuration, as Talbott explains in ‘The Saturn Myth’, saying: “The Ankh (whose origins experts have long debated) is but a conventionalized image of the [Saturn] Polar Configuration”. In his book ‘Secret Societies: Revelations About Freemasons’, Philip Gardiner explains that the Ankh was seen as a gateway or portal into a higher dimension. Quote: “The Ankh is known as the Crux Ansata. It’s a simple T-cross, surmounted by an oval — called the Ru. The Ru is often seen as a gateway or portal to another dimension, such as Heaven. The Ankh therefore becomes the symbol of transition from one place to another. It outlived Egyptian domination and was widely used by the Christians as the [Latin] Cross”. As well as being linked to the Ankh, the Saturn Polar Configuration can be linked to other symbols, such as the symbol of the All-Seeing-Eye. Probably the most recognizable Masonic symbol is the All-Seeing-Eye, included in the architecture of the Great Seal of the U.S. Dollar Bill. Fixed within a triangle, the disembodied eye is surrounded by rays of light and rests upon an unfinished pyramid. The All-Seeing-Eye finds its roots in ancient Egypt as the Eye of Horus (or Ra) and can be traced back to the Saturn Polar Configuration. During the alignment of Saturn, Venus, and Mars, in their different configurations, they formed a triangle and 8-pointed star. Quote from ‘The Saturn Myth’: “Saturn wears the band as a golden girdle, collar or crown. He dwells in it as the pupil of the All-Seeing-Eye”. To see this All-Seeing-Eye alignment explained see ‘Discourses on an Alien Sky#5’. The image below is loosely how this would have looked. In his (co-authored) book ‘The Ark of Millions of Years’, physicist Alexander Agnew, who has published thousands of technical papers, says: “The portal into Heaven is marked by the All-Seeing-Eye”. So, could this be what the Saturn Polar Configuration essentially is, then? Some portal or gateway into Heaven?
THE SATURN POLAR CONFIGURATION FROM ‘DISCOURSES ON AN ALIEN SKY’
This is likely the inspiration for the All-Seeing-Eye on the U.S. Dollar Bill.
https://preview.redd.it/uwxl1cipbv2b1.png?width=641&format=png&auto=webp&s=f8f880f2d3343a38e88b941370f234ff869c1023
Some have suggested that the symbols on the U.S. Dollar Bill were created by Freemasons. After all, some of the Founding Fathers were apparently Freemasons (such as George Washington and Benjamin Franklin) and the All-Seeing-Eye was ostensibly adopted by Freemasonry in 1797 and only 5 years later was adopted on the reverse-side of The Great Seal. Many believe that Freemasons are responsible for the eye-excruciatingly small image of the owl; a Masonic symbol for “knowledge”. So, what’s the goal of Freemasons, then? Assuming the All-Seeing-Eye on the U.S. Dollar Bill is a respresentation of the Saturn Polar Configuration, which Talbott has associated with the Tower of Babel, we then have a connection between Freemasons and the Tower of Babel. Indeed, some have suggested that the pyramid on the U.S. Dollar Bill is a representation of the Tower of Babel. According to researcher Jim Cornwell: “The pyramid on the Great Seal represents the unfinished Tower of Babel”. In his book ‘Antichrist Osiris: The History of the Luciferian Conspiracy’, Chris Relitz writes: “The unfinished [pyramid] seen on the American Dollar Bill may be a reference to the Tower of Babel”. According to Christopher Hodapp in his book ‘Freemason Symbols and Ceremonies For Dummies’: “Freemasonry’s legends claim that the group was descended from the great builders of the Old Testament — Noah’s Ark, the Tower of Babel, and King Solomon’s Temple”. Researcher Alexander Slade describes how Freemasons were possibly responsible for the Tower of Babel. Tentatively then, it would make sense if the goal of Freemasons was to recreate the Tower of Babel and reconnect Heaven with Earth.
Below is an old Freemason Tracing Board showing the All-Seeing-Eye over a pillar, with the pillar likely representing the Cosmic Mountain:
https://preview.redd.it/lf6u7dxwbv2b1.png?width=476&format=png&auto=webp&s=bfc01b8fd71b15fb116ec32fea46fbf6393fac64
The image below is a comparison between the Masonic Square and Compass (on the left) the Stargate logo (in the centre) and the Cosmic Mountain to Saturn and Venus (on the right) also called the “Saturn Polar Configuration”. The design of the Square and Compass corresponds to the configuration of Saturn, Venus, and the Cosmic Mountain, as seen in ‘Discourses on an Alien Sky’. In this interpretation, the circle at the apex of the Masonic Compass represents the Blazing Star and the triangular appearance of the Compass itself represents the Cosmic Mountain or pathway.

The connection between Freemasonry and the Saturn Polar Configuration becomes more apparent when we compare the stained-glass painting above to the front cover of ‘The Saturn Myth’ book as shown here.

2023.05.29 21:44 TringlePringle Memorial Day Special: These are the Major League Professional Basketball players who gave their lives serving their country.

Capt Ralph Taylor (1889-1917). Taylor, briefly a reserve guard for the Stamford Stamfords, was killed when he lost control of his aircraft and crashed from 800 ft at the aviation field in Mineola, NY.
SN Dinny Sheehan (1892-1917). Sheehan, a starting forward for the Stamford Stamfords in 1915-16 and sixth man for the Newark Turners in 1916-17, was killed in a boiler tube explosion on board a patrol ship in home waters.
2LT Jud Galloway (1886-1918). Galloway, a utility player for the Newburgh Guardsmen in the early 1910s, was killed by German soldiers in the Battle of Belleau Wood. He posthumously received the Distinguished Service Cross for exhibiting "exceptional courage and leadership when, after being mortally wounded, he continued to direct the steady advance of his platoon in the face of heavy machine-gun fire until struck a second time and killed."
2LT Harry Hill (1892-1918). Hill, a reserve for the Pittston Crescents, was fatally wounded on the front line of the Oise-Aisne Offensive. He was washing in a creek when he was hit by a German exploding artillery shell. He died days later in a Paris hospital.
1LT Charlie O'Brien (1887-1918). O'Brien was the founding owner, manager, coach, and a starting forward for the Nanticoke Nans in their first year of operation in 1914-15. The Nans would later go on to be PSL champions in 1919-20. He was killed in the Oise-Aisne Offensive. He posthumously received the Distinguished Service Cross for leading " his platoon forward toward the Le Cendriere woods under heavy shell fire. When wounded in the left leg, one of his men urged him to stop and have the wound dressed. He answered, "Never mind that; they can't stop us," and led his platoon through the woods to the bank of the Aisne Canal, where, while placing his men in position, he was struck again and killed."
SN Jack Inglis (1887-1918). Inglis, for years one of the best basketball players in the world while on the Troy Trojans and Carbondale Pioneers, is today most known for being the first person to score an alley-oop... in a very unorthodox way. Inglis died of the Spanish flu while he was serving with the naval reserves.
C/Amn Howell Williams (1889-1918). Williams, the star center for the 1914-15 Nanticoke Nans, only played one full professional season but was the third-highest scorer in the PSL that year. He was killed at an airfield in Everman, TX when his plane collided with another cadet's plane mid-air.
LTJG Herb Bonn (1916-1943). Bonn, a key forward for the NBL's Pittsburgh Pirates of the late 1930s and a first-team All-American at Duquesne, was reported missing in action in the Southwest Pacific while on patrol duty. Two months later, the Navy officially declared him deceased.
2LT Wilmeth Sidat-Singh (1918-1943). Sidat-Singh was the best pure scorer on the famous New York Renaissance teams and a college football star (single-wing tailback, his era's equivalent of a QB) who probably would've made the NFL if the league was integrated. A member of the Tuskegee Airmen, five days after graduating from flight school, his plane caught fire and crashed into Saginaw Bay. He made it out via a parachute, but got tangled up in the parachute and drowned in Lake Huron.
PFC Ben Ford (1920-1944). Ford played two games for the ABL's Wilkes-Barre Barons before returning to school and didn't get a chance to return to the professional game before military service called. He was killed by Italian soldiers in the Battle of Anzio.
SSgt Eddie Fredericks (1913-1944). Fredericks primarily played for independent teams but spent three games in the ABL with the Atlantic City Sandpipers in 1936-37. He was killed in action during the Battle of Guam.
PFC Glenn Wolfe (1910-1944). Wolfe played three games for the original NPBL's Muncie Whys in 1932-33. He was killed by German soldiers in battle in November 1944.
PFC Si Lobello (1919-1945). One of the stars of a superb LIU team alongside Ossie Schectman and Dolly King, Lobello played with the Long Island Grumman Flyers and then spent just five games in the ABL before heading into the military. He was killed in action in the Battle of the Bulge.
CPL Les Powell (1945-1969). The same day Powell signed his rookie contract with the ABA's Anaheim Amigos, he was drafted into the Vietnam war effort. He was killed by land mines in South Vietnam.

Here it is folks--THE CONCLUSION TO PANTHEOPSYCHIC COMICS ISSUE 3: WHAT MUST I BE TO BE SAVED (PART ONE)
Present is Part One of the conclusion to Pantheopsychic Comics #3. The main feature of this section is a reboot of comic pages from my old work: Weird Christianity#7: Of Love and Marvel. In the point of time featured in the comic, I attended Texas State Technical College in Waco, Texas, where I aspired to be an aircraft mechanic. Fate, and God, it seems, had other plans.

2023.05.29 20:47 lifeboundd Is it easier to successfully pivot into a different career if you've already worked for a huge company?

[CA] I'm a technical artist at a global 100 company and have taken on lead positions which are pseudo managerial/production like tasks that involve managing other peoples tasks and time on a project.
It feels bad working in a building where producers and project managers who from my perspective, do a fraction of the work my team does and are making 2-3x as much, get to travel across the world on company dime, and have a much more social job (I'm very extraverted). I've enrolled into an MBA program at a semi-prestigious college paid for through my company under the guise of wanting to pursue managerial for my department, which depending on the pay, sure, but in all honesty I'd love to pivot into a production or business program but I'm concerned that pivoting would put me right back to an associate/entry level position.

Anyone have experience with seamlessly making a switch like this? Would love to hear your insight.

Edit; Not to say PMs don't do anything; when I say do a fraction of the work, there's expectations that content creators be creating content 8+ hours a day. Anyone who does anything creatively can piece together how this can quickly turn into burn out. I'd much rather plan and talk to people that have the expectation of constantly creating content.

2023.05.29 20:42 Jazzlike_Doubt6904 I am in constant fear of my older brother

Hey! This might be a throwaway account for the stuff I'm about to say and before I tell this story I need to address that there is sexual assault in this story along with incest. I (f 14) am in constant fear of my older brother (m 16) for this reason, when I am asleep at some points I wake up randomly to what I guess a sense is what you can call it? When something is off or if I'm in a close to dangerous situation, and over the past year and a half (Me being 13-14) I have been waking up at times I know I wouldn't be up especially on the weekend (at like 4 or 5:00) to my older brother looming over me literally doing sexual things (I don't feel comfortable saying it but I think you get the point) and been trying to touch me but I've been trying to fight him off and still seem asleep. I don't know how long this has been going on and I don't want to know how long it's been going on but now I don't feel safe falling asleep at night knowing what could happen, and the door I have doesn't lock so that's useless, I would try to tell my mother (I am no to low contact with my father for family issues) and I know even if I tried to say something it would be overlooked like many other things including me being suicidal at one point, so at this point I'm just trying to wait it out until he leaves for college then go no contact with him. I have been sexually assaulted and cat called before and it's hard enough for me to say something about it due to family issues. At this point I don't know what to do. I go to therapy but she doesn't know about this yet because my brother goes to her too. I'm afraid for myself and any other women who enter his life. My mom is (technically) housing/adopting another girl who is turning 18 soon and I do plan on telling her when I meet her. I know what my brother is capable of. I've seen the pictures he's had of me on an old phone that I've taken from him. I've seen him try to take pictures of me when I'm in a robe and are just trying to get something before I retreat to my room. And I think he knows that I know. And I can't even hold a conversation without thinking about what he's doing/done. I hate the feeling and I hate him. Thank you if you read this and please give me some advice on what to do. (Note he usually tries this when nobody Is home, my mom works until 2 on Saturdays)

2023.05.29 20:36 PrudentBuy8972 Residency LOR from private practice doc?

Context: Have been working with an orthopedic surgeon since early college. I would shadow him in the summers when I had off from school, published a 1st author paper and case report together during my gap year, and then worked with him during the summers in medical school again and now we have 1-2 more papers in the pipeline. He wrote me a strong LOR for medical school and recently offered to write me an extremely positive letter for orthopedic surgery residency. That said, I have gotten a mixed impression about using a LOR from someone in private practice, especially when it comes to applying for residency. I know he is technically some sort of "clinical professor" at some of the local programs, and he can/will speak to my strengths and make it a very personal and positive letter, but was not sure whether having this LOR would be advisable given the conventional wisdom of applications/letters.
For some more context, I do plan to have 1-2 letters from my home program (academic program) as well as at least 1 from an away rotation. Any thoughts or insight would be much appreciated. I am sorry in advance if this question has been answered or is very basic. I am planning to apply to programs in the northeast/south US, some of which are more academic than others.

2023.05.29 20:23 jimbobbypaul Ranking the Top 131 FBS Programs of the Last 40 Years: 88. South Florida

Main hub thread with the full 131 rankings
I’m not sure how many people know this, but South Florida is still one of the newest programs in football, having played their first season in 1997. They quickly moved up to Division 1 in 2000, and have enjoyed solid results until the program tanked under Charlie Strong and Jeff Scott recently.

Best Seasons and Highlights

1. 2007: 18. South Florida: 9-4 (21.403) 2. 2016: 18. South Florida: 11-2 (20.264) 3. 2002: 23. South Florida: 9-2 (18.097) 4. 2017: 27. South Florida: 11-2 (14.048) 5. 2006: 31. South Florida: 9-4 (11.641) 6. 2008: 41. South Florida: 8-5 (5.130) 7. 2009: 45. South Florida: 8-5 (3.687) 8. 2001: 44. South Florida: 8-3 (2.101) 9. 2010: 45. South Florida: 8-5 (1.096) 10. 2015: 56. South Florida: 8-5 (-0.167) 11. 2003: 53. South Florida: 7-4 (-2.213) 12. 2005: 44. South Florida: 6-6 (-2.247) 13. 2011: 71. South Florida: 5-7 (-11.987) 14. 2018: 86. South Florida: 7-6 (-16.665) 15. 2000: 73. South Florida: 7-4 (-19.194) 16. 2004: 88. South Florida: 4-7 (-30.918) 17. 2019: 106. South Florida: 4-8 (-32.112) 18. 2014: 100. South Florida: 4-8 (-33.728) 19. 2012: 102. South Florida: 3-9 (-37.577) 20. 2013: 110. South Florida: 2-10 (-48.131) 21. 2021: 121. South Florida: 2-10 (-50.018) 22. 2020: 126. South Florida: 1-8 (-50.872) 23. 2022: 130. South Florida: 1-11 (-59.645) Overall Score: 8403 (88th)
It’s actually pretty amazing that South Florida has a winning record in the FBS. They’ve gone just 8-37 over the last 4 years (134-98 if we don’t include them). Nearly 50% of their seasons have had 8 or more wins, and they produce about 3 NFL players every 2 years. Very solid program who’s having a rough patch, but could return to sleeping giant status soon. Notable NFL players include Jason Pierre-Paul, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Marlon Mack. Consensus All-Americans were DL George Selvie in 2007 and all-purpose Brian Battie in 2021, who returned 3 kicks for TDs, on just 20 returns.

Top 5 Seasons

Worst Season: 2022 (1-11 overall, 0-8 American)
Man, they’ve fallen far. On the bright side, they can’t fall much further than this. Head coach Jeff Scott was in his 3rd season, and ended up going just 4-26 in his (almost) 3 years with the Bulls. It wasn’t totally his fault, he had to clean up the mess Charlie Strong left behind, and while there were signs of improvements, but they weren’t winning close games, usually an indicator of poor coaching. USF lost 28-31 to #18 Florida, 24-28 to #24 Cincinnati, and 39-46 to #22 UCF, so it wasn’t like the Bulls were totally destitute. Former Baylor QB Gerry Bohanon, who led the Bears to a 12-2 record in 2021, started the first 7 games, throwing for 1070 yards 6 TD 6 INT with 386 rushing yards and 3 TD on 6.4 YPC. Backup Byrum Brown flashed potential, throwing for 5 TD 1 INT with 5.8 YPC on the ground. This team didn’t win a game against an FBS opponent, as they beat Howard 42-20. They were the 2nd worst defense in the nation giving up 41.2 PPG, but scored a respectable 28.0 PPG.
5. 2006 (9-4 overall, 4-3 Big East)
Remember QB Matt Grothe? That’s a throwback name. The freshman QB took over in 2006, in USF’s 2nd year in the Big East. USF played fine throughout the year, the season going about as expected after a 7-4 start. A game at #7 West Virginia to play Pat White and Steve Slaton seemed like a guaranteed loss, but at least USF was going bowling. On the contrary, the Bulls shut down the WVU spread offense, winning 24-19 in a huge upset. This would start a few years where the Bulls consistently terrorized West Virginia, beating them 3 times over the next 4 years. USF dominated the bowl as well, beating East Carolina 24-7. The season was an announcement that the Bulls were coming, with a young talented QB, plenty of potential being in a BCS AQ conference, and being located right in the middle of a recruiting hotbed. Grothe completed 64% of passes for 2576 yards 15 TD 14 INT, and ran for another 622 and 9 TD. The defense was very good as well, giving up just 16.9 PPG. Momentum was building for 2007.
4. 2017 (10-2 overall, 6-2 American)
When the Big East broke up in 2013, USF ended up in the American, a non-Power 5 conference. They made the most of it, at least initially. 2017 USF entered the year at #19, coming off an 11-2 year, and looked to compete for a New Years 6 bowl with new coach Charlie Strong. This team featured senior QB Quinton Flowers, arguably the most electric player in college football. But despite all the talent and expectations—the team’s performance on the field was underwhelming. They started 7-0, but only moved up 2 spots to #17 because of their play. In week 2 they were tied 17-17 with Stony Brook in the 4th quarter, and beat up on mostly weaker competition, with their toughest opponent having been Temple. They did get their first ever win over a Big Ten school though, beating Illinois 47-23. With a 34-28 win over Tulane, USF set the AP era record for most consecutive 30+ point games, with 24 straight, beating 2011-12 Oregon. Fast forward to the end of the season and USF was 9-1 and #22, facing #13 UCF in the War on I-4. Despite everyone overlooking USF (9.5 point underdogs), Quinton Flowers did EVERYTHING he could, throwing for 500+ yards and rushing for 100+ yards and 5 total TD. Still, UCF won 49-42 on a last minute kickoff return TD. USF still finished the year with a respectable 38-34 win over Texas Tech to finish 10-2 and #21 in the AP Poll.
Flowers threw for 2911 yards 25 TD 6 INT, with 1078 rushing yards and 11 TD on 5.5 YPC. He finished his career as USF’s all time leader in total yardage (11,796). There was talent around him as well—RBs Darius Tice and future NFLer D’Ernest Johnson split time, combining for 1739 rushing yards and 18 TD. Marquez Valdes-Scantling was the leading receiver with 879 receiving yards as well as 108 rushing yards.
3. 2002 (9-2 overall, Independent)
This was USF’s 2nd full year in the FBS, and they definitely came ready to play. They opened with 30+ point wins over both FAU and NIU. After getting blown out by Arkansas, they held #2 Oklahoma to just 239 yards in a 14-31 loss, maybe the Bulls’ most impressive defensive performance of the season. They wouldn’t lose a game afterwards, winning one-possession games against North Texas, Southern Miss, and Memphis. Despite a 9-2 record with wins over Urban Meyer’s 9-3 record Bowling Green, Sun Belt champion North Texas, and one of the top C-USA teams in Southern Miss, USF was not selected for a bowl because of their Independent status. Pretty insane, as I had them as the 23rd best team that year. QB Marquel Blackwell had a great senior season, throwing for 2590 yards 18 TD with just 3 INT, and ran for 5 more TD. The defense gave up just 18.5 PPG and featured future NFL players LB Kawika Mitchell (2nd round pick), DE Shurron Pierson (4th round), and DB J.R. Reed (4th round).
2. 2016 (11-2 overall, 7-1 American)
QB Quinton Flowers and coach Willie Taggart announced themselves to a national audience in 2016. Picked to win the AAC East, USF came in with offensive firepower, beating Syracuse 45-20 in week 3 and losing 35-55 to #13 Florida State a week later. An 11-2 season included wins over #22 Navy, 8-5 Memphis, and South Carolina in the bowl. USF had the best Group of 5 offense in the country, averaging 43.8 PPG with a stacked backfield of Flowers and RBs Marlon Mack and D’Ernest Johnson. Flowers won AAC POTY, throwing for 2812 yards 24 TD 7 INT, with 1530 rushing yards and 18 TD on 7.7 YPC!! Mack put up a 1st Team All-AAC season, rushing for 1187 yards and 15 TD on 6.8 YPC, while Johnson added 836 yards and 13 TD from scrimmage. Even the receiver room was stacked, with future NFL draft picks Rodney Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Taggart turned the great season into a job at Oregon, and the rest is history.
1. 2007 (9-4 overall, 4-3 Big East)
Every die-hard college football fan knows the 2007 Bulls. In just their 11th year of existence, they were #2 in the country. In fact, 5 of the 6 computers that made up the BCS ranking had USF at #1. So how did it happen? People thought USF would be good heading into 2007, but not this good. After beating Elon in week 1, they headed to Auburn to face the 17th-ranked Tigers. LB Ben Moffitt recalled the experience and how USF wasn’t perceived as a threat to fans: “It’s a weird experience. You ride the bus in, and they’re all waving at ya, and they’re all, ‘Good luck, good luck.’ I was like this is different, but OK.” Later in the night, down 20-23 in OT, QB Matt Grothe fired a game winning TD on 2nd and 9 to walk out of Jordan-Hare with one of the upsets of the season thus far. Now ranked #23, USF disposed of another Power 6 school in North Carolina, 37-10. That set up a home game against #5 West Virginia, with the Mountaineers looking to get revenge for last year on their way to a national title. Media members recall the crowd being so loud that night that the ground shook underneath their feet, in a 21-13 USF upset victory, to beat a top 10 Mountaineer team for the second straight season.
Suddenly, USF was thrust near the top with college football royalty, moving 12 spots up to #6. After spanking weaker opponents FAU and UCF, they had made it all the way to #2. In the country. A frusturating Thursday night game against Rutgers saw the Bulls squander a 7 point lead toward the end of the 1st half, and commit 10 penalties in a 27-30 loss. USF would fall off a cliff afterwards, losing consecutive games to UConn and Cincinnati to fall out of the Top 25. They finished strong though, averaging 48 PPG in their last 3 wins against Syracuse, Louisville, and Pitt to finish 9-3. There were rumors that the USF players were hungover for the Sun Bowl against Oregon, but the rumors turned out to be unfounded, the truth lying in the talent of first year Oregon OC Chip Kelly, who changed up his game plan to avoid USF Consensus All-American DE George Selvie. The Ducks won 56-21, and RB Jonathan Stewart ran for a Sun Bowl record 253 yards.
USF finished the year 9-4 and 4th place in the Big East. While they finished unranked in the AP Top 25, I had them at 18th for impressive wins over West Virginia and Auburn. Matt Grothe had another fine year, throwing for 2670 yards 14 TD 14 INT, with 872 rushing yards and 10 TD, and would go on to be USF’s all time total yardage leader. DE George Selvie put up a 1st Team All-American season with a whopping 14.5 sacks and 17 TFL. Overall, this was a pretty stacked team. 8 players were drafted, including 5 picks in the first 3 rounds.

5th Quarter

15 years after being ranked #2 in the nation, USF is now in a weaker conference, has gone 4-26 the previous 3 years, and rival UCF has been invited to the Big 12. Where did it all go wrong for USF? And do you remember some of their players such as Matt Grothe, BJ Daniels, and Quinton Flowers? What do you remember about that #2 ranked Bulls team and the 2007 season?

2023.05.29 20:19 JustARandomGirl666 learn other peoples salaries about pissed

sorry mess up the title, english is not my first language
I'm so frustrated, I start a job about 3 months ago and learn last month that the person under me get about the same thing as me (junior 65k vs technicien 63k). In my probation document, I say that I want more challenge and to take on a regular role (not junior as I am learning what everyone is doing) I keep helping my college finishing their work since they cant keep up with deadline. So I say when I get more complicate stuff I would like to talk about a change of role/raise.
Just after I got a passif agressif email from my boss about a mistake (that I didnt even make!). I'm expecting her to keep doing that to put in my face that I'm not good enought to do more. What argument can I use without saying I know what they pay the other people?
more info, he as been working for about a year here with a technical degree and is way older. I have a bachelor and 3 years experience but im 26f. This company say they are pround of their equality (bullshit). The other women I helped is in her 40th, with a technical degree and is closer to 75-80k. when I was looking for that job 65k was my lowest but the recruter say it was what they were offering...

2023.05.29 20:17 spudm0de Decades long Rangers fan going all in on the Sabres

Sorry for the bored memorial day shitpost but I just wanted to talk about how stoked I am on the Sabres. I am in my mid 20s and have been a fan of the Rangers since my youth having grown up in and played my youth/junior hockey career in the Hudson Valley. I loved the Callahan/McDonagh era Rangers that made a couple of deep runs- as much as it hurt to not win the cup in '14 I loved that team with all my heart and enjoyed watching them play. Fast forward to this past season and we're repeating the cycle of leaving another generational goaltender out to dry- worst of all I really don't give a shit about this roster- I feel no connection to a bunch of starpower that seemingly can't put shit together.
I'm a huge college hockey fan and have been following Tage Thompson since he was recruited by UCONN- he's been a bit of an underdog since his minor hockey days with the Jr Islanders and I love that he's become the talent he has despite no one thinking this was in the realm of possibility back when he was playing junior. I love that there are several NCAA alumni on this team and the grit and underdog-iness gives me all the same feeling as the Rangers squad from around a decade ago.
The Rangers are in a spot where the coach they replace Gallant with is certainly going to be dogshit, and the Dolan ownership is likely going to continue to be a death sentence wherein a squad that looks great on paper is going to be middling due to mismanagement. I do not want to watch and/or root for this team anymore as it brings me no joy.
Because of all of this, I am all fucking in on the Buffalo Sabres. I don't even care about the success of this team, I'm just excited to root for a team with a roster that I'm stoked on and that has an exciting style of play.
If anyone knows the best way to stream most, if not all Sabres games for the upcoming season, let me know. I'm based in the southern US but can use a VPN to make things work.
Go Amerks.

2023.05.29 19:54 ldrroser I (20F) cheated on my boyfriend (20M) of 1.5 years. Is it okay to just break up with him for other reasons and not tell him what really happened?

Let me start off by saying I know I'm a horrible POS human being and I'm going to hell for what I did, so feel free to tell me that but it's not necessary. Also, I will break up with him either way because despite treating me rather poorly, obviously he deserves much better than a cheater.
I know the cheating itself is wrong no matter what the situation, but please consider the context before just saying I should tell him the truth.
I met my BF the summer before our freshman year of college. We were from different states but attended a retreat together on campus a month before school and became acquaintances. The first night of school we met up and spent every weekend together after that, just hooking up (technically not in a relationship, but exclusive) for the next five months. Both of us were virgins who had never been in relationships before because we wanted to wait for someone special. Because of this, our bond was extremely strong and I fell deeply in love with him. He asked me to be his girlfriend in January of 2022.
I have realized over the last few months that I likely have undiagnosed BPD. There are many reasons for that, but in the context of our relationship it mainly made me constantly overthink and all of my emotions relied on how he was treating me, how long it took him to text me back, etc. Because he was the only guy I had ever been with, I was uncontrollably obsessed with him and constantly stressed/ jealous of any time he had fun without me. The fact that it took him five months to make it official with me also made me very insecure. Looking back, he was perfect for someone like me because he took no interest in being friendly with other girls, voluntarily unfollowed every other girl but me on Instagram, and did lots of other things to express his loyalty. I never asked him to do any of these things because I was self-aware enough to not be controlling and take my craziness out on him, but he was always trying to make me feel more comfortable regardless. I have severe anxiety (and probably BPD) so no matter what he did, I always felt emotionally exhausted, worried he would find someone he liked more and cheat on me. I know, ironic.
Despite his expressed loyalty, there have been a lot of bad things about our relationship. He has pretty bad anger issues, and I've seen him get scarily violent when he's upset. He has never actually struck me intentionally, but when he is drunk he has a tendency to manhandle me a bit and will push me around when I try to take care of him. He also borderline sexually assaulted me one night back when we were still just hooking up. He was blacked out and forced himself on me when he was drunk despite me complaining that I was in pain. I also have reason to believe he may have cheated on me one night, as he never went home and lied about where he was. All of that is not super relevant to the story, but I'm trying to help convey that he had some somewhat abusive/toxic characteristics.
Aside from those more dramatic things, my BF is simply not very good at being a BF. He has probably taken me on maybe two or three dates our entire relationship, and any other time we go out it's because I planned it. He is horrible at communicating and despite the number of times I ask him to be more attentive, he refuses to do simple things like shooting me a goodnight text. He rarely calls me now that we're long distance and most of the time he makes me feel like an option, very low on his list of priorities. He can be very cruel when we fight and is just overall lazy when it comes to being a boyfriend. Despite this, he can be very sweet and thoughtful the rest of the time, and I think he just has a lot of growing and learning to do about being in relationships. I have always tried to give him the benefit of the doubt and I love him more than anything in the entire world. He is all I think about throughout the day, and honestly if he had proposed to me a week after we met I would've said yes. I did everything for him. I cooked him meals, wrote him love letters, called him to make sure he woke up in time for his classes, and just generally revolved my life around him. I took care of his every need and did everything I could to make him happy. Everyone who knew us thought we were soulmates, and his friends were all jealous of what he had with me. I was sure I would spend the rest of my life with him. I've ruined that now.
What's unique about my situation is that cheating on him was not ENTIRELY a drunk mistake. I've thought about doing it for a very long time. Here's why:
This past December, my BF and I were going through a rough patch. I had already tried breaking up with him once before but he cried and begged me to stay and I felt guilty. (I know I talked about him being the love of my life but because of my mental health issues I make very impulsive decisions when I feel hurt and vulnerable.) This one night, I was ready to do it. As much as I loved him, I knew there was better out there for me and I needed more love and attention than he was willing to give me. I invited him over to my apartment, and he showed up black-out drunk and knew why I had asked him to come over. He broke down in tears and confessed that he had "messed up." He said he had never seen a future with me and didn't mean anything he said when he talked about getting married and having kids someday, because he thought it was what I wanted to hear. He has told me since that he doesn't know why he said that and that he was probably just drunk rambling, but at the time I didn't believe him because it was the kind of thing that you couldn't make up when you're drunk. I felt for the first time that night what it was like to have my heart broken. But because I'm crazy, I couldn't let the relationship end that way. I had to get revenge on him for breaking my heart, so I didn't leave him so I could have time to plan out what I was going to do. I spent the next week mourning the relationship in my head, not eating and barely sleeping. I lost 8 pounds in 6 days and almost ended up in the hospital. I truly think I changed into a different person that week, because I had never considered cheating before, but for the next month or so all I could think about was how to hurt him as badly as he hurt me.
As time went by, my need for revenge faded as we grew close again. However, I knew that the relationship had an expiration date and that I would never be able to get over how much pain he had caused me. But because of how much I loved him, I couldn't find the courage to leave. I knew I needed to break my attachment before I left him, because otherwise I truly didn't know if I could survive the breakup. I've struggled with depression and even attempted to end my life years ago, and this was part of the reason I felt the need to lose my feelings for him before cutting him off. This all wasn't necessarily rational, but again, I have fairly severe mental health issues. I know that's my own responsibility, but my parents don't believe in therapy or medicating mental illnesses, and I can't afford either of those on my own without their insurance.
Anyway, I came to realize that the reason I couldn't let go of him was because of the sexual bond we had created, being that we were each other's firsts. It occurred to me that if I slept with someone else, it would break that bond and make him less important to me so I could finally get away from the relationship and focus on treating my issues before entering into another relationship. I know this makes me a complete coward, but it's hard to explain how shackled I felt by my emotions and how desperate I was to end my mental pain. Being with him was torture because I knew he would never love me as much as I loved him and that eventually my craziness would come out and I would scare him away.
For a while, the cheating plan was just something I thought about and would never put into action. I was aware that while I may be free of my attachment to my boyfriend, I would probably be caught and end up hurting him, which was no longer something I wanted to do. The cheating was completely due to my own cowardice and I didn't want it to affect him in any way because he did not deserve that. He would never understand that it was not because he wasn't enough for me, but rather that I could not deal with the hold he had on me. Since the day I met my BF I had never looked longingly in another direction. I only wanted him and never even felt attraction to any other person. I did not cheat because of lust. Honestly, I didn't enjoy it for a second and I didn't find the guy attractive whatsoever.
It happened four nights ago. I'm currently studying abroad in another country, and this evil little part of my brain knew ahead of time that if I was going to execute my plan, this trip would be the perfect opportunity. It would be nearly impossible for my BF to find out what I did.
I picked out a guy at a club. I was very drunk and we danced together, and he asked to come home with me. I said yes, brought him to my apartment, and we hooked up. It felt so wrong. My body only knows my boyfriend and I felt disgusting the whole time. In my drunkenness, I kept seeing my boyfriend's face in this random man's. I didn't enjoy it for one second, but I was resolved to do what I needed to do to let go of my attachment.
I was too drunk to really think about what I had done at the time, but the next morning, I immediately was overwhelmed with horror at what I had done. The guilt was truly indescribable and I've never experienced anything like it. I made the stranger leave my room and I spent the rest of the day unable to stop vomiting and crying. I was a delusional fool to think that f*cking a random dude was going to make me stop caring about my boyfriend. Yes, it broke the physical bond, but once that was gone I was only left with the immense emotional love I had for him. I was hit with the realization that none of the pain my boyfriend had caused me could hold a candle to what I felt now. I feel even more guilty because the sex was objectively better, but it wasn't with HIM. I now know for certain that I never want another man to touch me but I'll never get to even HOLD that sweet boy again. We'll never get to finish our favorite TV show, and we'll never get to travel to the places we'd planned. I'll never get to use the petals I carefully preserved from the flowers that he got me, which I had saved for our flower girl to toss at our wedding. I would truly give anything to go back in time and I will regret what I've done every day for the rest of my life.
You can tell me all you want that I'm trash and that I need to stop dating and work on fixing my own problems, but it won't be anything I haven't told myself already. I've accepted that what I did makes me a bad person. What I need is advice on the best way to minimize the damage this will have on him.
I know the general rule of thumb is to always tell the truth. But please consider the fact that he truly will never find out if I don't say anything. The stranger I hooked up with is from a completely different country and would have no way of finding out about or contacting my boyfriend. I feel that if I told him, it would only be to assuage my own guilt, and I know I deserve to feel the full force of every horrible emotion I'm experiencing right now. I need to break up with him anyway, so why hurt him more than necessary in the process? He has a lot of issues as well and I don't know if I trust him to not do something stupid out of grief. I myself have had to fight the urge to jump in front of a bus or drink myself to death, and I'm not even the one who got cheated on. There is quite literally no good that can come from him knowing that the only girl he has ever loved got f*cked by another dude. I don't want to give him trust issues or trauma that he will carry into future healthy relationships. You may not believe that I love him because I cheated on him, but I do.
I know Reddit hates cheaters (rightfully so) and I would really appreciate brutally honest feedback. Whatever ends up happening now is what I deserve, but I would like to take the route that has the least emotional impact on my boyfriend.

Side note: We've been super distant the past couple of days, not texting or calling despite being long-distance and in different countries, so it wouldn't be out of the blue for me to break up with him. No matter what reason I give, I would put it on myself and not make him feel like he did anything wrong.

The Wild Beyond the Witchlight: Reimagined - Part XVII: Yon (Motherhorn)
Welcome to Part 17 of The Wild Beyond the Witchlight: Reimagined, an expansion and alternative take on the The Wild Beyond the Witchlight campaign. Previous entries:
If you'd prefer to read with the full formatting, or check out some of my older content, please head on over to my blog at IndieRex.com.
Foreword: This post contains spoilers for The Wild Beyond the Witchlight

Introduction

This trip through the mountains is certainly quite a hike! Luckily Motherhorn is just over the distance, and from there - Arctis Tor, the Winter Palace. Hopefully you've packed your costume jewelry and memorized your lines, because today we'll be taking a tour through Endelyn's amphitheater of horrors.

The Path to Motherhorn

Art by tzlynart
When the players exit the Brigganock mine they will be back outside in the Shimmerstorm Mountains - now not far from Motherhorn. This is a good time to read the description from the book, though hold the staircase and balloon pieces for now until the party actually reaches it later. This will position Motherhorn as the way in to the palace.
Looming in the distance is an ominous gray citadel hewn out of the mountaintop. The path leading to it is winding and precipitous. Wind swirls around its towers, and ravens cluster and caw in its granite nooks. A crooked finger of lightning strikes a metal rod protruding from the topmost spire, and the sound of applause drifts over the citadel’s battlements.
Awakened Giant Goats
While Motherhorn is just over the ridge it's about an hour's trek still. On this path is the perfect time for some furry friends to make their appearance. You can play out this event as written in the book though I have an alternative description to set-up the scene below.
As you make your way up the cold, snowy mountain trail, you suddenly sense that you are being watched. You turn to see three giant goats standing a few yards away, their silvery-gray fur ruffled by the mountain wind. Their wizened faces are fixed on you, their golden, hourglass-shaped pupils observing you closely.
Lightning Rods
The path to the amphitheater is also a good time for the party to pass by some of the lightning rods of Yon.
In the distance you see a towering structure glimmer in the dark as it's struck by a bolt of lightning and then seemingly absorbs its energies. The tower stands 30 feet high and is topped with a 10-foot-diameter crescent moon made of gleaming copper. You wonder what kind of electricity this rod must harness in order to function given the storms that rage through these mountains.
If a player chooses to climb one of the rods I feel as if it's more fun to ask for a check. Some options include: - DC 14 Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check (your choice) to climb - DC 14 Wisdom saving throw as a thunder cracks overhead to not lose balance
If your players have a Lightning-Catching Bottle they can use the rod to fill the bottle in the same manner that they could charge their weapons.

Motherhorn

When the players arrive read the following and the balloon description from the book. If the party defeated Charm in The Fields of Spring then the balloon will not be here and you can skip that portion.
The mountain path ends at a spiral staircase that climbs sixty feet to a balcony made of weathered gray stone. You have reached Motherhorn.
As described, if Gleam is with the characters, she will warn them of Endelyn. As mentioned last time as well, I highly recommend taking the party through the play though of course this depends on your table!
In this section I will only call out changes (otherwise run the book as is). Unlike the book, if Bavlorna or Skabatha fled they did not escape here. One general change I would recommend is to replace about half of the darklings in Motherhorn to use the greater darkling stat block from Part XI.
A Tragedy in the Making
https://preview.redd.it/v20r2a3wzs2b1.png?width=1023&format=png&auto=webp&s=343d56c5cd6127a508f69dbae9b97946d277af14
I'm going to cover the play at the outset as having this info will help inform how you run Motherhorn (and also might mean a bit of a railroad at the beginning for your players if you move them right into the play). As mentioned before, the play is a ton of fun so definitely would suggest pushing your players this way if you think they'd be open to it.
As per the book the party will be expected to put on a play if they want to have an audience with Endelyn in area M18. No invitations or fliers should be needed here. Unlike the book though, Endelyn doesn't have their Lost Things, but does have a way to get them to Arctis Tor, The Winter Palace, which is where their Lost Things are.
Also like the book, if the characters decline to perform a play for her, Endelyn demands that they leave at once, ordering her darklings to attack characters who refuse to do so.
Preparing for the Play
The party should meet with Stagefright as written to get prepared for the play, but after the initial introduction we will be adjusting things significantly. In terms of how to run the play though there are a lot of options. I've laid out my own suggestion below (with inspiration from the outline by u/DearEdison) , but some others to consider are:
Ready? Let's break a leg!
No Love Lost, The Tragic Love Affair of Iggwilv and Graz'zt
For my take on the play, the characters will be running a script called No Love Lost, The Tragic Love Affair of Iggwilv and Graz'zt, which is intended to better tie into the overall story. You may remember Graz'zt from Nib's Cave in Part XIII, and of course Iggwilv needs no introduction.
After the intro with Stagefright it's time to assign players their roles - either through rolling or choice, but there should be no doubles. As I had 5 players there are 6 roles (one for each of them and one for Charmay) - feel free to adjust depending on your number of players. Charmay also doesn't need to participate though.
d6 Performer Roles
1 Zagig Yragerne, an archmage and Iggwilv's first master.
2 Iggwilv, a powerful raven-haired archmage from Oerth Note: Iggwilv is, of course, another name for Tasha the Witch Queen - a fact that is not known by anyone in Motherhorn so do not reveal this
3 Graz'zt, a powerful demon lord sometimes known as the The Dark Prince or Prince of Pleasure for his… erotic tastes
4 Raxivort, a Xvart and Graz'zt's treasurer
5 Tenser The Blue Archmage, a member of the Circle of Eight
6 Mordenkainen the Mage, one of the most powerful wizards that has ever lived and founder of the Circle of Eight
Once role selection is done, Stagefright should guide the players to M4a to choose their costumes, props, and/or request reasonable ones, and then M11 to meet with Charmay. If Charmay will have a role, Stagefright will explain as much. Otherwise she will just handle the play intro and outro. Before departing he will give the characters 30 minutes until curtains up (this feels better than 10 minutes so they have a chance to talk with Charmay, though I recommend a 5 minute warning).
d6 Costumes
1 Intricate noble's attire
2 Black robes and a witch's hat
3 Dark leather armor adorned with spikes and skulls
4 Simple leather armor with a scarlet kilt
5 Grey, high-collared robes
6 A blue patterned vest

d6 Props
1 An elven amulet
2 A heavy black and gold tome with a claw shaped lock mechanism
3 A set of demon horns
4 A long ledger of accounts
5 A brass goblet
6 A stick on mustache and goatee; a bald cap
Our version of the play covers the rough and tumble relationship between Iggwilv and Graz'zt
Performing the Play
Once time is up, Stagefright will return to bring the players to the stage and inquire if their troupe has a name, while Endelyn, the darklings, and the goblins watch. I had the play take place on the Grand Opera House map (Romeo Juliet version) by Czepuku, but anything will work.
Charmay will open the play with a monologue to set the scene, and then it will operate as follows:
Many bards consider it the greatest love story the multiverse has ever known, for it reveals the unsettling foundations of desire. It speaks to the dark origins of love and our desire to possess that which is beyond possession. As we relate to you the tale of Iggwilv and Graz’zt, let your mind wander. Reflect on the love that possesses you and ponder what your future holds.
I present to you "No Love Lost - The Tragic Love Affair of Iggwilv and Graz'zt" by the [insert troupe name given to Stagefright].
  • The characters should act one at a time, as if in initiative order (but instead use the order from the Roles table above). If a role has no lines for a specific round they simply wait in the wings
    • At the beginning of each "round", change the backdrop scene on stage as per the table below. The play takes place over 6 rounds
  • On each player's turn:
    • Stagefright feeds the player a line they must use (see the lines below), and then they can add any additional lines or flavor they'd like
      • If online you can use Roll20 macro to make this easier
    • As with a normal turn a player can use an action, bonus action, etc. but don't have to
      • Dialogue is considered a free action
      • Common actions will likely be a performance check, skill check, etc.
      • As per the book, characters can freely move around the stage, use props, and enter and exit scenes as they wish
    • Other players can join in but can't interrupt lines
    • Scoring: As Endelyn watches she will be mentally scoring them for their performance
      • Positive point for a character using their line correctly
      • Positive point for a successful check or use of a spell/ability to enhance their performance
      • Negative point for loitering (make liberal use of the fool's scepter!)
      • Negative point for interruptions
      • Negative point for flubbing their line or not using it
  • Once all the lines are complete, Charmay will give a final outro as well: "In the end Graz’zt and Iggwilv had come to understand that they loved nothing more than hating each other, and they hated nothing more than loving each other"
  • At the end the actors should gather for a bow
    • Tally the points. As long as the group has more positive points then negative then the play will be followed by cheers, and as per book the party will be invited to M18 for negotiations with Endelyn

4 We have freed Perrenland, but the Crook of Rao has been bewitched
5 I must admit - she is an intriguing figure
6 How could I let myself be taken in by her? We must locate her at once

Even the great Mordekainen is befuddled by Tasha
M2. Amphitheater
Rather than roll on the tragedies table I would select #7. This directly ties into the notes we left at Loomlurch where Tasha has tricked Endelyn into believing Bavlorna is plotting against her.
M7. Oracular Library
In the black book you need to remove the portion of text below as no such treachery has taken place in the reimagining and it's also a bit too on the nose on revealing Zybilna's identity.
The sweet treachery we three have wrought— Would Iggwilv help us? Ha! I think not.
M11. Stage Workshop
Two immediate changes to make in the workshop are that there is no unicorn horn here as usual, and Golmo is also not here (he is instead imprisoned in Arctis Tor for your reference).
We will also be changing almost everything that Skylla shares with the characters (though the description itself of her and her background is all still accurate). In particular we're removing all of the mentions of Iggwilv (a bit too early for the big reveal!), and of course the piece about the cauldron is not true in the reimagining.
She will boastfully share the following information:
  • After the carnival the group of them - Kelek, Mell, Zarak, Zargash, and herself were transported to the Feywild. They've been here for about 20 years, though some - like Kelek, their leader, have had some aftereffects and aged more rapidly (not to mention time is strange in the Feywild). To survive they took on odd jobs and eventually became full on mercenaries for hire and renamed themselves The League of Malevolence after their old name at school
  • While they've worked together for their mutual benefit, they're each rather selfish and often pursue their own interests
  • The League was most recently employed by Zybilna, a powerful sorceress and advisor to Queen Mab. She tasked them with hunting down Valor’s Call, some sort of adventuring party, whom they defeated about a month back but the group ran away by some sort of teleportation magic.
  • While the rest of the league is still in Zybilna's employ hunting down the escaped members of Valor's Call, she decided to stay in Yon and take up her passion - acting!

M13. Worker Cells
If the party freed Harry from the Green Keep he is here to rescue his sister Kizz, who traveled to Yon before the barrier came up.
M16. Darkling Balloon Dock
This room will be empty and no balloon present if the players killed Charm, Trinket, and Bauble in the Fields of Spring. You may choose to have different darklings here though if you want to offer their wares still.
If they are here, the darklings will know all of the knowledge from the Wayward Pool article (Part XI). If the party is still on friendly terms with Charm then the darklings will still offer their wares for sales (see the Traveling Wagons in Vale Crossing for details - Part X).
If the party knew of Charm's plot to kill Lamorna and did nothing to stop it you may potentially want to have Charm be in possession of Lamorna's horn, with a plan to give it to Endelyn (who would like it as a present for Queen Mab).
M17. Prison
When speaking with Glister, make the following changes:
  • When referring to the belfry, she instead references it as the fastest way to the Winter Palace (as opposed to the Palace of Heart's Desire)
  • Ignore the portion about the Fey Beacons. To make things simple, the sisters just need to escape and then they can track down the carnival on their own.
  • When discussing plans, an alternative option can be raised. It is known that Endelyn grants audiences with performers she likes. The party may be able to convince her to let Glister go in such a circumstance
M18. Audience Chamber
When the party is granted an audience with Endelyn (such as after performing a play), we will make some adjustments to the exchange.
  • When bargaining, the key thing Endelyn has to offer is an invitation for the party to a ball happening at the Winter Palace, as well as transportation there using the cranes in the belfry. While Motherhorn and the palace are technically connected - there is no direct passageway between them.
    • As per the book she will accept shadows or gloam in exchange (though there's no way to get back to Downfall so the party will have needed to have snatched Gloam already)
    • Other options to potentially include: Ridding her of Charmay or the play performance being enough on its own if it was impressive
    • If Endelyn is defeated in battle, she will also offer to provide the party invitations and travel to the palace in exchange for her life
      • If it does come down to that, I highly recommend the alternative stat block developed by Phaerlax. She would also never fight alone if she can help it and would ensure she has shadows and/or darklings to aid her
      • If she's defeated she will flee like in the book, but not to the palace
  • If the party's performance at the play was at least somewhat good, she will also likely offer for them to stay in Motherhorn as long as they like - especially if they will continue to perform for her
  • If the party has their fates told (highly recommend!), then add the following tidbit below after the description in the book. This is a great opportunity for you to foreshadow any plot lines you might have going on for individual party members in your group and then you can throw the "unhappy ending" ones in as humorous potential alternative futures if you want. I'll include some below as examples.
The hag cackles gleefully as she begins to chant, gusts of wind raging fiercely around her. The scent of brimstone and burning herbs fills the air, mixing with the sound of thunder that rolls overhead. Her eyes fix themselves on you as a strike of lightning illuminates her grotesque form and the puppets move.
"I see many paths…both past and present."
Fates
The following are general ones that will apply given upcoming events so feel free to use them! More details to come in the articles on the Winter Palace.
  • I see a murder laid at your feet (A reference to the future murder of Lord Albert Frostwood of the Winter Court)
  • I see a dire threat looming over the Winter Court (A reference to Zybilna's plot against the court)
  • I see a wizard lost in time who can give you answers (A reference to Luca Oxley)
And these are just some examples from my group that likely don't apply to yours - just as inspiration:
  • I see a man in black armor - as long as you are near him your life is in danger
  • I see illness in your past - those closest to you consumed by malady
  • I see a boy and a bear, cold and lonely. To rescue him you must face giants
  • I see an arrow that struck true, a broken man bent on revenge
  • I see a difficult choice - between a mask and many eyes
  • I see you swimming in a court of stars, I see a vortex of wind behind a pair of crossed scimitars
An invitation to the ball at the Winter's Palace is exactly what the party needs to continue their quest for their Lost Things
M20. Paper Birds and Hidden Belfry
The Letters
We will be changing the letters here to the following:
Dearest Skab,
Mummy’s little spies continue to reveal that Bavlorna is conspiring to betray us. But fear not. Her plots will not succeed. What’s important is that the Orrery remain safe. Let me know how you wish to proceed.
Your beloved sister, End
As a result of Tasha's machinations - Endelyn is still of the belief that Bavlorna is plotting against her, not realizing Tasha has played the same trick on every sister.
Lord Kelek,
I have written a new play titled The Cassalanter Catastrophe. It’s a tragic tale inspired by real-life misfortune that I think you might enjoy. You and the other members of the League of Malevolence are invited to Motherhorn to watch a live performance. Your colleague, Skylla, has been my guest for some time, but I’m afraid she has worn out her welcome. In exchange for my generosity, I’m hoping you can take her off my hands.
Until our next meeting, Endelyn
Endelyn has tired of Skylla but can't kill her or otherwise get rid of her like her other actors given Skylla's strength and not wanting to anger the Winter Court in any way. While I removed Alagarthas I think it's fine to keep the title or perhaps even change it to something relevant to a player of yours (as I did above)?
Bottled Lightning
I would up the damage here to 4d6.
Hidden Belfry
Instead of traveling to the Palace of Heart's Desire, these cranes will take the players to the entrance of Arctis Tor which we will cover in our next article. You may want to avoid allowing players to use this without an invitation from Endelyn (either freely given or forced) as it likely means they're skipping (fun) content and won't have a good way to make their way through Arctis Tor.
M21. Ornithopter Pad
As a reminder, the other sisters (and thus their flying mounts) are not here.
M22. Endelyn’s Room
Also a reminder, no Lost Things are here (they are at the Winter Palace). The title of the play here should match what you use in area M20.

What’s Next?
After taking a bow from Motherhorn our adventurers will be flying off to Arctis Tor, the Winter Palace and seat of Queen Mab. A grand castle of scheming eladrin nobles, the elusive Zybilna, and of course the party's Lost Things awaits. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any comments, questions, or suggestions and… see you in the Feywild!
