Hey there. We're in England.
My partner and I left a residential tenancy December last year - the place was electrically dangerous. We lived in the property for 2-3 years. The property had many electrical faults and the electrics blew every couple of months to some problem or another (One time the fridge they left us started tripping fuses, another time a random socket upstairs was blowing fuses, at one point we realised the whole house was on a single circuit and had to be fully rewired. Shower started blowing fuses at one point.) We were working on finding another place to live at the time and when we had no heating during that big cold snap and some wires behind a blanking plate started sparking badly enough to melt the connector blocks, we called it quits. We sent an email advising we were leaving 12/12/22 and would give vacant possession as soon as possible.
We only ever dealt with the lettings agent - never with the landlord. Lettings agent did their best to deny the electrics were in a bad way. When we vacated the house, it was a difficult time and the house was left messy and definitely in need of an end of tenancy clean. Nothing was damaged by us. Some light sockets and plugs didn't work, but that was a long standing issue that we raised with the agent several times. Some furniture and black bags would need removing. We informed the agency of this and offered them our full deposit (£825) to cover it. We just wanted out. The house wasn't damaged, nothing unsavoury or unsafe like food was left as we cleared and cleaned as much as we could despite being homeless and crashing at work.
The agent on behalf of the tenant tried to claim about 2 grand for various works, including a brand new bathroom. We disputed this and offered the full deposit and no more. We sent quotes to full house cleans and removals that fell under the deposit value to prove what we were prepared to pay was reasonable. This was denied and they didn't budge on their demands. They took a post-tenancy walkthrough video on 16/01/23 where it shows the house needs a clean, but doesn't show any damage at all. We went back and forth until halfway through February wherein I fell unwell and told them that unless they were willing to accept our offer or to meaningfully negotiate, to please stop contacting us. They made a claim a few days after we gave vacant possession for the full deposit (Which is protected with the DPS) which we disputed pending an agreement that it would be accepted as full payment. Nothing happened and it's now been sat waiting for a court order to be released for 6 months.
Fast forward to not hearing anything from the agent or the landlord since February, my partner and I get a county claim through the post from the landlord (not the agent) claiming £3298 plus £205 court fees. They claim we didn't vacate on the agreed upon date as per a notice period, the property was left in a mess which resulted in a rat infestation and damage was caused to some fixtures resulting in work costing £1998. No further details are given about any claim. They also claim that due to the works required, they lost 3 "about 3 weeks of rent" at a value of £1300 (For reference, we paid £825 a month in rent) as the property was not ready for the next tenant to move in. They also claim interest from the period of 12/12/2022 to 01/06/23 at a daily rate of £123.00 (I'm guessing they got their daily rate wrong, because yikes.)
The claim has the name of who we assume is the landlord and their address. We didn't have any contact details, so we reached out to the old agency and asked them to pass our email address on to the landlord so they could contact us and we could discuss. Heard nothing back, chased the next day and the agency confirmed that the landlord instructed the agency to not give out any contact details.
As far as we understand it, the property was left in a state that definitely did need a good clean and removing of some furniture and black bags, but at no point were rats ever mentioned and the claims they're making are at the moment entirely unsubstantiated. We have almost no details to go on. I'm also pretty sure that a county court claim is supposed to follow pre-court guidance on the Gov website including two "warnings" about intention to claim in court as well as both parties having an obligation to work together to prevent the issue getting to court or at-least reduce the scope of the issue. Fully aware and happy to pay for reasonable fees despite the landlord being an ass, but don't want to pay a ludicrous amount for no reason.
Current plan is to talk to citizens advice, send a letter via recorded delivery asking for contact details to the physical address located on the form and talk to the few solicitors who seem to represent tenants in disputes on Monday. Happy to receive any further advice.

I rent a condo that comes with a parking space.
There’s been a car parked in my spot for 48 hours. I do not know who it is. I tried to identify them through our Facebook group, left a note on their windshield, and also checked with security. They did not move and the note was still there this morning.
Today I called parking enforcement. They ticketed the car and called a tow truck but about 20 mins later the officer said…we’ll I ran the plates and this is actually a VERY close neighbour (while looking down my hall) and said they don’t typically tow in the first instance in that case. I had been warned by someone else in my condo that this could happen because it happened to them when someone else in the building parked in their spot.
I felt pressured so I was like ok ticket them. Then the officer said they’d try to call them again and if they haven’t moved to put in another complaint (it took 8 hours for them to respond so I’m not looking forward to another day of waiting…). I also put another note on their car.
So how often can they ticket? If i put in another complaint tomorrow will they ticket again and tow? Or just tow? Or say not enough time has passed? Just trying to plan my weekend because my Friday night was ruined waiting for them to respond. I’m also annoyed because it’s an $80,000 SUV and I wanted to tow them so bad lol… def think I was a bit of a pushover.
Also just want to say the officer who responded was lovely and he just told me it was policy to not tow at first when it’s a neighbour situation.

I’m an adult now. 5 years my sisters senior.
I just watched my sister get her diploma. And while I’m swelling with pride. She has exceeded everyone’s expectations. And I couldn’t be happier for her. I am jealous. I hide it well. I haven’t let my own petty emotions interfere with this milestone for my sister. Yet, I am none the less jealous.
I am jealous in many ways, my sister is skinnier. More outgoing, beautiful. Amazingly book-smart, and making my parents much prouder than I have, with my simple life and simple job. But being jealous in that way is easy to see past, easy to let go of, because I enjoy my simple life, doing simple things. And that’s what’s important to me.
What gets to me is the amount of effort my parents have and continue to put into my sister, watching them do things for her they never even considered for me, because I was the “easy child” in their words, and small things were enough for me.
We took my grad photos with a phone, because I’m not exceptionally beautiful, why would we pay a photographer like we do for her.
My grad party was held in a garage, they’ve rented a hall for her.
Family flew in from all around to attend her grad. I got cards.
They special ordered custom grad cards with my sisters pictures and lining in the envelopes for hundreds, I used the generic school provided ones.
She gets a custom 2-3 tier themed cake every birthday. I get a department store cake.
My father will be sending her money monthly when she leaves for college. I “didn’t need it” yet moved out on my own at the same age, and was attending community. Sure it wasn’t uni like her. But I still had to pave my own way.
She was gifted a car, but has commandeered my mothers because the free one wasn’t good enough, I paid for all of my own vehicles.
She got dumped so they got her a cat. I was never allowed a cat. But now that my sister is moving for college I am expected to take in her cat.
When I was living at home my mother always got us quick meals. After I moved she took up cooking and cooks almost every night.
My sister was allowed to try and quit every sport. I was told I couldn’t commit after quitting one sport.
My father spent his weekends with us in my teens glued to a computer. He now begs my sister to spend time with him.
I do not blame my parents and I had a very good childhood. There was no abuse. I was fed and thought of. And I understand that during those crucial years for me, my parents were in a nasty divorce, and were too preoccupied to be entirely present for me like they are for my sister. But it still hurts none the less.
Even now, still, I have been labeled the “easy child” and I feel so much pressure to live up to this precedent. To not burden my parents with my feelings of being forgotten, swept aside because I’ll take the bare thoughts with gratitude.
And I’m happy to be the easy child. I just wish that they would do some extra despite the fact that I’d be happy if they didn’t. I want my mother to insist of a custom cake. Or take me to get professional photos, I’ve never had any. I want my family to insist on flying in for my milestones.
Perhaps it’s my fault for never telling them how I felt, for never asking for the extra things, like my sister does. But I will not impose my family with this. Because I am the “easy child” and I am there to be easy, a release of pressure, to be helpful and polite, and nothing more.
If any parents are reading this who have an “easy child” please remember that even though they will be happy with little, doing the extra will make their world. See them. And don’t tell them they are “easy” as a compliment, then they will never want to break that mold, and they will go through life making sure to make everyone else’s life easy, at their own expense.

Alright Reddit fam, I’m turning to you because I need your help…bad. Backstory, about 2 months ago I went to visit a friend in FL (live in Mi). At the time going through a divorce and matched with this girl before leaving on a dating app. Absolutely gorgeous girl and ended up going on a date. Best date of my life. Dropped her off back at her place later that night and shared a kiss that left me feeling like a little kid again. Everything seems to be going well right? Well the next few days, I came off way to strong as I was trying to use this new relationship as a way to move to FL and start over. Needless to say I found myself blocked everywhere. I was heartbroken. This girl thought I was only in it for sex but after our date I genuinely thought this could be the start of something incredible. Got back home to MI and tried to get her off my mind but I couldn’t. I have never felt that way even through my marriage.
Fast forward until the other night when I “accidentally” texted her to see if I was still blocked. Come to find out I’m not anymore however she never responded.
Here’s where I need your help. I have no idea what to make of 100% being blocked to now not being blocked (I know for sure I’m not) but her not responding. I genuinely have not stopped thinking about this girl and would do absolutely anything to try and mend things or just clear the air but also don’t want to overstep like I did before which is why I haven’t texted her back again since my last text.
Ladies of Reddit, what would grab your attention in a way that would make you want to hear the other person out? It sounds so corny but I really think this is my person.

I offered “as-is where-is” & pretty sure that’s what got me where I’m at. Appraisal & inspection went fine. Also, sorry this is stupidly dumb long…
TLDR: what would you do first?
Move your stuff in, stick everything in garage, storage room & hardwood floor rooms & then do carpet cleaning & painting (saves $300 on storage charges POD & local small unit). But eat the extra charges of paint, carpet cleaner, supplies. But we’re saving that $300 which can go towards carpet & paint.
OR
Leave the stuff in storage while we carpet clean & paint. Pay the $400 storage fees. And pay for carpet cleaning & paint in addition to storage fees.
(I personally feel like one of them is the OBVIOUS choice but we’re arguing about it) ———————————————————
Why are we at ends here?
So, the condo had a dog in it. Not a big deal, most of first floor is hardwood, 3 rooms are carpeted (all 3 bedrooms - 2 downstairs, 1 upstairs).
The house smells like dog. Not like wet dog or anything, just dog. (We don’t currently have pets & it’s not like dog-pee smell or anything, just a dog lived there… and ate a lot of door jambs, lol).
Now, we’re between places (living at sister in laws for little over a month now). So all of our stuff is in a POD storage thing at the POD location, so I’m paying $350/mo for storage there, and I’m paying $50/mo for a small storage unit that’s local so we’re not crowding sister in law.
Husband & I can’t decide what to do first. Well, I can but he disagrees.
My choice :
The storage & POD will get charged on 6/20. We’re closing 6/15. So, if all goes according to plan, next weekend I can get the pod delivered 6/16 or 6/17 and stuff out of storage unit & save $300 total (it costs $100 total to drop off/pick up the pod - so $400 saving minus $100 = $300 in case you cared about math….). We have a garage & a large storage unit on ground floor. Our condo is on 3&4th floor. I’d rather not move stuff into the garage and storage room just cause I don’t want to move this shit again. I said, we can move our stuff in - we have good furniture but not nearly enough to fill the place like we did in our rental. We’re getting almost 1,000 more Sq ft. So there’s plenty of space to maneuver around furniture & get these things done with our stuff in.
His choice :
Husband wants to immediately Stanley steamer the carpets & paint. Which would delay the POD & storage unit, AND add the additional costs of carpet cleaner & paint (… and supplies). So that’s $400 + carpet cleaning + paint = $$$ - he doesn’t care. Oh, and somewhere in there he wants to rent a moving van for our stuff up here and move it down there…. (Even though we have 2 decent sized SUVs that we used to move in with his sister with our necessities)
I know he wants to just get in there. But again, carpet cleaning can take 1-2 days (pre-treat, shampoo, go over it again, drying). Painting can take…. God knows how long sometimes & the walls are already beige / tan so I don’t see why we need to paint a basic color except to just get rid of dog smell but we’ll be painting it again when we decide where’s what going and the sort. We have a 9 year old, who I know is super excited to pick out her paint colors & we’ll have 3 bedrooms, 2 staircases, 3 bathrooms & the normal rooms. Sooo a lot of painting. Husband had an accident few years back & between cleaning carpets & painting & moving furniture again, he’s going to be a total asshole in pain.
I was hoping to get 1-2 guys to help move the big stuff to avoid husband having a pain-episode especially since it’s 3&4 floors up.
I know he isn’t thinking logically about the time line or money or pain or the fact that we will only be 1.5hrs away from where we are now, so it’s not a huge rush to get our stuff out of his sisters basement. He wants to get in there ASAP but also delay getting in there to get rid of the dog smell.
My compromise was the following : - deliver the pod on 6/16 or 6/17. - spend 6/16 putting baking soda (or the weird carpet smelly stuff?) on the carpets, leave it & vacuum hours later. - rent a carpet cleaner & shampoo carpets 6/17, since no carpet is on way in/out, we can move stuff in to the hard floor rooms while carpet dries. - after carpets dry, we can move all the furniture to carpeted rooms & polish up the beautiful hardwood floors. - spray the walls with a vinegar spray & clean to get rid of the surface area dog smell - painting can happen later when we figure out where everything is going.
Now, the last kick is - we aren’t married, we’ve just been together for so long it’s basically married at this point. He’s now being a butt because he’s technically my dependent and I am the one actually buying the condo & it’s all in my name & all the money we have is from me working. So it’s “my” money even though I don’t see it that way but he does (& he loves spending money, which is fine - within reason - and he buys basically whatever he wants whenever as the bank is originally his but now joint. I do have 2 other accounts he is not on but since I handle finances & bills, I keep separate accounts to make my life easier. When he’s spending too much - he never looks at the account - I simply tell him to stop buying stuff. Now, he shops because I HATE to, & I also just hate spending money, lol) - we totally do not have a gender norm family. I work (going to be fully remote now) so I also need a work station set up before 6/20 plus the utilities set up. He cooks & does most childcare.
Is my compromise not fair? Any one have any other ideas? I don’t want to steamroll what he wants but he’s also very rash with his decisions & even though I have plenty of PTO (unlimited even), I’d like to be able to have a smooth transition from hybrid to fully remote.
Also, we’re not rich or anything, so I don’t want to spend tons of money after that down payment.
Help! Am I missing common sense somewhere?

Is there anything wrong with my plan below? Any better way of doing this?
There is a really cool condo listed for sale near me that I want to buy. My debt-to-income is compromised because I own other properties etc. and in any case I do not want to go through the drama of re-shuffling my finances to qualify for conventional financing. I also don't want to put any of my own money into the deal (would have to sell assets) so I want to borrow the down payment money or put no money down. I plan to live in the property for a year or so and then either continue living in it or rent in another cool building nearby and find a long-term tenant for this one. Here is my current plan:

• sale price is 550k, HOA is $1300/month
• end current rental lease for 6k/month
• create new LLC to buy property and get loans with
• borrow 25% down payment of $137,500 from personal loan lender with 48-72/month term at I'm guessing around 12% interest(?)
• find non-conforming lender willing to let me purchase the condo as an investment property with a 30-year mortgage, 25% down, likely ~8.5% interest(?). Loan from them is sales price - down payment = $412,500

A lot of posts going around about supply shortage intensifying and construction workers not getting work. In light of rapid immigration of young adults starting families this will only send prices and rents up once interest rates come down at some point.
2 counter scenarios -

1. Builders need to blink at some point and start putting more inventory, especially with Green belt dev leading to a controlled price fall. This is already happening as condos go unsold.
   
2. Interest rates stay high enough with Bank of Canada failing to curtail inflation leading to job loss, mortgage crisis, yielding opportunities for those who can still get a mortgage.
   

Should someone in a position to get a starter home today jump in or sit on sidelines speculating for above? Would love to see your opinions!

Okay this is going to be long so bare with me 😂. Now we all seen this whole wedding shenanigans that’s has been going on for awhile now. Now I’m just going to put it this way. Number one Haley asked Christen to be her Maid Of Honor of course which we all know that but we all also know that normally it’s still a yes/no thing. Just because someone asks you to be there MOH doesn’t mean you have to say yes. I put this way if you knew that you would do a TERRIBLE job and I mean a TERRIBLE JOB LIKE HORRIBLE then you shouldn’t had said yes . Number two you did say yes so you basically was telling her that you could handle being the MOH okay cool. Now on to number three you haven’t even really been spending much time with your sister to find out what she actually has in mind FOR HER WEDDING NOT YOURS. Now number four your so busy traveling back in forth from place to place to event to event and all this crap but if you knew that you wanted to do something special for your sister then you should’ve been saving money. Number five I don’t care how much money you make from your so called trashy drama career but everybody has some type of financial struggle. Sometimes you can go to pay for something and still have less money than what you need so you should’ve been saving your money so you could’ve rented a venue for her bridal party. Number six you decided to do a bridal party in the school gym that she works at? Like what, you so called have all this money so why couldn’t you afford a nice venue just for a few hours? Crazy huh now number seven you called yourself designing that mess? Like the colors are all over the place I mean come on. It’s a bridal party not a baby shower or a 5 year olds birthday party like get it together. My question is if someone was doing your wedding would you want it to look like that? Cause I know I wouldn’t want mine to look like that. Now on to number eight the decorations look mad cheap. Like you have it looks like paper on the floor and how you know it is because it still has wrinkles. Like you couldn’t even do that right ? 😂. It’s a complete shame. My point is if you have money to travel back in forth with your so called friends and that you do so much for then why can’t you go above and behind for your own sister. I honestly feel bad for Haley cause this is ridiculous. Christen could’ve just hired a event planner to help out with the bridal party and still could’ve told them what colors she wanted it but girl I think they would’ve just handled the whole thing themselves cause the colors are crazy 😂

Hello, I (19) am entering my first year of university after taking a gap year. As of last month I moved out of my parent’s house and went permanently no contact due to the physical and emotional abuse I’ve experienced for the past several years from them. (I would’ve left sooner but it took monthssss to find an apartment since I’m young and have no rental experience. I left as soon as I could.)
OSAP is asking for my parent’s financial information which I do not have access to. I am 100% financially independent I pay for my rent, groceries, phone, etc. and I have been working since I was 14. So, I was suggested to submit a family breakdown form, which requires documentation and evidence from police,social workers,family members etc.
Now, I come from an immigrant family. Sorry to say this but abuse is the norm for a lot of us my culture. Growing up I never thought to run and go call the police or speak to anyone about my situation besides my friends, now looking back I wish I fucking did. I have no siblings and no family in Canada besides my parents, basically nobody to vouch for me.
I DO have a therapist and my doctor is aware of my situation since I’ve developed mental illness from it, but they were both involved AFTER I left home.
I set up a meeting with someone from financial aid at the university and explained my situation while I was on the verge of tears… she told me there was nothing I could do. My therapist and doctor aren’t “valid” since they weren’t involved while I endured the abuse and never spoke to my parents about this???? She suggested I get a line of credit from the bank or “make up” with my parents and get their financial information… ok thanks.
I also tried to apply for OSAP as a dependent student who has worked full time for the past 2 years. But apparently I’m not eligible since I haven’t been out of high school for 24 months? I graduated in June 2022. According to OSAP you can’t work full time while studying, even though I worked full time my last 2 years of high school.
I want to continue my education. I have the grades, the determination, the willpower. Without financial aid I will not be able to go back to school all of my money goes towards rent and survival. I had a rough upbringing and I’m sad that it continues to hold me back. I’m already 1 year behind from my peers and don’t want to take another year or 2 off. Please, if you have any advice or have been in a similar situation please let me know what I could do. Thank you :) <3

That’s it, y’all. I’ve used every aid/organization/food bank. Rent isn’t paid, eviction is being filed on the 16th. We have no money for more food. Haven’t paid my car, phone, electric in two months am that’s getting shut off. We have sold everything we can live without. We have scraped and scrimped and applied for assistance. I start a new job making $24/hr on Monday which is awesome but I won’t get paid for a couple more weeks from that. Eviction will be filed and we will go hungry. Not to mention the next several paychecks will go towards just catching up. I just can’t win. So fucking defeated.

My mom, the most amazing and important person in the world to me, died in March and I’ve been so fucked up since. Crying most days, some days I don’t get out of bed.
Here are few different things that are overwhelming me. If you have advice or words of comfort/encouragement, please share.

1. I don’t have a job, haven’t since October. I’m okay financially for now, living rent free with a family member but I feel like such a loser and while I want a job, all my applications have been futile the last 8 months and some days I feel too broken to get and maintain employment. But something part time and remote would be ideal.
   
2. I have to go through probate to get my inheritance, I’m so overwhelmed. One page of the will just vanished I have no idea what happened there. It’s hell navigating all this paperwork and I fucking hate how hard they make everything. Fuck bureaucracy. Nobody gives a shit how devastated I am, they just want me to pay lawyers and pay fees and climb a mountain of paperwork.
   
3. My friends have disappointed me so much. They don’t reach out, one just dropped me because my grief and anger was unpleasant to them basically. I only have one in the area who I see regularly and he’s not exactly comforting, it’s just a distraction. I feel so alone and even the people who do care are like “I don’t know how to help.” That phrase makes me want to rip my hair out. My dad isn’t a good or helpful parent, and so many people just suck at being supportive and making me feel better.
   
4. The grief is destroying me. Life is grey without my mom. I don’t like living now that she isn’t here to share life with me. She cared about me and loved me so much and now every bad thing that happens I can’t go to her and it makes me want to die. I cycle through memories that break my heart, from happy childhood moments to all the suffering she went though when she was sick. Three years of it, and being her caregiver has fucked me up more than I realized.
   

Overall I feel like a pathetic, weak child, incapable of having a normal, happy life anymore.

I haven’t even flirted with anyone for such a long time that I thought this could be fun. I’d have loved to say that the idea of doing this came to me during a dream, but I haven’t dreamt in a long time.
I am a 21 years old male from a big city in Brazil. I am going to university for a social sciences degree, and I have done pretty well so far. Besides all that, I write poetry on the side, and I work for a small online newspaper.
I am fascinated fairly often by many things and I have many hobbies so you won’t be bored. Last month I became fascinated by Spanish modern history after reading Preston’s biography of Francisco Franco and I was reading about the Miracle on the Han River yesterday, while my family gave a lunch party and I had to keep myself entertained while they discussed the tragedy of a heiress’ dog many illnesses, which were mysteriously shared with his owner, and some reforms in the Vatican Bank. But yes, in general, I really enjoy the humanities. I follow politics keenly – in fact, there is some chance I might have some thoughts on your country’s politics – and I’d say I am on the centre-left – pro-choice, in favour of a robust welfare state, LGBTQ+ rights, affirmative action. If you know about Brazilian politics, I voted for Marina and Haddad in 2018 (the voting age here is 16), and Lula last year.
As you can imagine, I also really enjoy reading and writing. Besides poetry, I have often thought about reading a novel, but this seems like too much work – and it seems that it would be arrogant of me to write a novel having lived this little. I really enjoy learning about other languages and cultures and I know a bit of French, German, Spanish, and Russian, besides English and Portuguese. I am into genealogy and I have helped a few friends with it. I also really enjoy TV shows and cinema, and I am easily brought to tears. I cried during the last Minions movie, even if I didn’t want to be there. I love music and my taste in it has been described as “fairly gay”. I’d have loved to be a musician, but I’d have loved to have been many things.
I guess I am pretty introverted, polite, and timid. I am affectionate and I can be really passionate as well. And I am fairly funny, or rather, I have made a few people laugh over the years. I asked a close friend to describe myself, and that is what he said:

I think you’re very communicative. Shrewd, funny, a good companion. Kind of withdrawn but not necessarily shy. You avoid conflict and unnecessary arguments, but love to participate in good conversations. I think you’re very kind too, besides being polite.

As for what I want to do with my life, I am unsure though I am inclined to go into academia. I have been considering applying to a PhD program in the U.S. after finishing my undergrad here in Brazil. My family does want me to go into their business, which is related to politics. I have also considered going into diplomacy.

Where to begin; I apologize for formatting, am on mobile, but finally want to post this. Apologies for length; this post is a tad bit long.
I’ve (22F) been with my SO (26M) for 2 years now. And it’s been rocky from the start. To preface this, this is my first relationship; I was an ugly ducking in high-school and I met Ben (that’s what we’ll call my SO) on Hinge when I finally lost some weight and gained some confidence. I was feeling super lost at that point in life as I was a student (struggling to understand my classes online), but also wanting to experience a relationship as I felt unwanted as my friends all around me were having guys worshipping them and no guy even ever touched me.
Ben and I met on Hinge when I went a semester to a different state when COVID happened. We had sex soon after meeting - 2 weeks specifically, but I felt ok in engaging with sex with him as I felt he wanted a relationship with me, at least not fuck and leave.
But from the start, he tried convincing me to move in with him as his living situation was unstable - he lived together with his mom in a bedroom in his grandmother’s house (tldr: mom lost the family’s house a while back - 10 years ago - during divorce). I wasn’t super comfortable with the pace of all these things - I felt uncomfortable talking about living with him when I just met him 2 months ago and lost my virginity then. However, time passes; we find a sublease for 2 weeks (we had been dating like 3 months; and I had living accommodations at the time and it was cheap, so I didn’t mind this time ‘away’). Also … have I mentioned I’ve been a student this whole time, studying online during the pandemic.
So after this 2 weeks, the pandemic is practically over so I move back to my home state (across the US from Ben - so we enter a ‘long distance phase’). I tried breaking it off then because I wasn’t confident in pursuing our relationship as we would be then long distance and also due to other factors (he isn’t on the level financially where he can provide, or even provide partially and I want a providenot to help him pay for gas since he’s on his last $100 … call me shallow but I was to be secure in life and hopefully a SAHM mom one day - more to come on this financial situation). So we broke up, but got back together shortly after due to us being extremely depressed (I didn’t want to cut contact, so I still kept his socials), and still loving each other (he was my first love/relationship/ person I lost my virginity to).
So in fall 21, he moved over to my state where I’m studying and moved into my student accommodations. He helped with rent at the times giving me $200 bucks monthly and helping for bills such as buying most household items. So times were ok and we weren’t fighting as much.
However, he lost that job/wasn’t able to pursue it due to back problems in fall 22 - his father has a genetic back issue and Ben claims he inherited it. I don’t disbelieve him - he’s been physically in pain I can see. However, he hasn’t helped at all since Fall ‘22 (Aug) - and he has car payments every month and insurance - so I helped him out in the start and his parents have been helping him fully with his car bills since Winter ‘22. So I’ve been covering everything house - meaning full rent every month $650 where I’m at). So since his back is hurting, he must rest right … thus, he is constantly home. Ever since August 22, he’s been at home doing a mixture of video games, smoking zaza constantly tbh (I’m ok with smoking, am also a user, but he does it every waking second), walking our dog (although recently I’ve been doing it 100%), etc. However, he has been very loving and caring this whole time - using his car to take me to classes as I believe I have an autoimmune disease (just need to go to doctobe diagnosed) and have difficulty walking to class 20min, and basically doing everything on the side as requested - I.e. often going for deserts for us after a long study sesh day for me. So I would lie when I’d say he hasn’t fully been taking care of me and keeping me sane. I’m quite a bit shy, so I don’t have ton of real friends - just school friends and we’ve drifted apart since I just graduated.
However, I haven’t exactly had a high paying job in college this past year, so I’ve been running out of the funds I’ve saved up from my meager lil campus desk job. And he’s still not had a job.
Now recently, I’ve caught him talking to girls by chat on omegele and getting their telegram info to chat them on their. I’ve caught him doing this 3 times. The first time 2 times I saw the chats on his phone on the telegram app (basically calling them cutie, dear, flirting) with the majority of the chat being deleted. So I contacted these girls on my phone by getting their handle off his phone to find out what happened - and basically the girls said he was flirting, asking to call them endearments. Now this last time I caught him, the third time, it was 2 hours after my birthday. Now he deleted telegram after catching him the second time, but I caught him this third time by seeing that telegram was searched for on his play store app and knowing the last search was the day before. So, I redownloaded Telegram, did some backtracking, talked to this girl - and he did the same as with the other 2, but tried to escalate by offering to send a dick pic and wanting to send it to her until she refused. So nothing happened out of it ultimately - but this is the last straw for me in our relationship - I am hurting a lot from this lately. It was the downright disrespect of wanting to send your junk to others hours after your SO’s birthday not to mention we had sex a few hours before I went to bed and this happened. So I don’t trust him. However, his mom is homeless at the moment - she lost that bedroom because her other son stayed with her for a bit and disrespected the house (openly smoking weed in front of grandma). So she’s living in her car. I want to believe I’m a good person and I don’t want to break up with him right now as he has nowhere to go. Both our names are on the lease, but im this event, I would give him 2 weeks notice and tell him to leave and keep paying rent for this place … maybe sublease it later on. I just want to put out there that he has also threatened suicide if I leave him. I deeply care about him as I valued our time together albeit his ‘cheating’ (is it cheating??), so I don’t want to kick him to curb/make him homeless as I believe he wouldn’t return to Florida to be homeless with his mom — especially since he is starting a new job on Monday and I’m hoping he’ll get himself back up on his feet. So I’m hoping that in 2/3/4 months by now, he’ll be stable and his mom will be stable, and then I can morally be able to break up with him. It just physically hurts to be in his presence every moment still - I still think about him wanting to send that dick pic hours after we had sex and being sneaky and deleting telegram after. So I’m at a roadcross. I don’t have many people in my people except my mom and my bestie (who I also met on this semester away). Please Reddit advise and thanking you for bearing through my post.

I'm exploring the option of moving out of my condo and possibly downsizing. This might be a very simple question but my overly analytical mind possibly has it twisted.

Let's hope I can rent our apartment out for a price such that property management fee, move in move out fee, paint fee etc is all covered and I get $4300 in my account. Question is out of this $4300 that we we were spending how much should we budget towards a rental property?

Thinking Point 1) Mortgage Interest Deduction
When I live in the hope $1100 * 12 = $13,200 can be deducted each year. Our marginal tax is 32% (federal) + 10% (state), which means roughly about ~$700 per month goes out of pocket vs $1,100.
This means our monthly cost (after tax) to live in an apartment we own is closer to $3,900
Thinking Point 2) $1,100 towards principal is like an investment
This point is likely wrong, and haven't thought very deeply.
Even if few years down the line we sell for the same price we bought, then we'll be getting the $1100 per month back, so one way to think of it could be this is a no-yield-savings-account. Hence we shouldn't include this in our monthly rental calculation.
Hence should we remove this from $3,800 i.e $2700 or keep it as is?

Like the title says I’m new to this all and just wanted to ask if Acorn is worth it for me or if I should try other means of low budget investing (very open to recommendations). For some more context, I’m a college student that doesn’t have much money to my name (about a grand) and plan on working this summer to hopefully increase that before the upcoming school year. I’m particularly fond of the round up feature Acorn offers and haven’t really seen anything like it elsewhere. However, the $36 a year makes me initially think I don’t have enough money for Acorn to be profitable for me. I only really plan on using the round up feature to add money into the account and potentially money I make over the Summer. To sum everything up, at what point is it worth opening an Acorn account and spending the $36 a year. Thank you so much to anyone who responds!
TL;DR: How much money do I need for acorn to be even a little profitable? Or what other platform/app should I use?

I just want to preface before I post it all that I have looked through the previous posts about this and picked what I think is the best use of my visit with the 10 days that I have. I have never been WC before, and I mapped out each thing to do/see in order by location so I’m not ping ponging back and forth during each day. I am staying one block south of the Hollywood strip, I know most of it is barren, and it’s not as safe, and there’s probably a bunch a crackheads, but I managed to find a police scanner online to geographically see what areas of the Hollywood strip have cops go to mostly, and picked my Airbnb in the areas where cops don’t really go to. I picked that area because I’m close to everything I’m kinda in the middle, and even if it isn’t as safe there’s always a lot of people there, so I’m not expecting much just a lot of lights and witnesses. And before anything else yes I have a car for my whole stay I’m picking it straight from LAX the day I arrive.
