Just as conditions differ from nation-state to nation-state, so too would the paths and prescriptions differ. In the United States, where I live, I think of a socialism with US characteristics. Socialism in one country is challenging, but as the largest domino, making this domino fall to socialism in the US will aid a rapid spread of socialism Worldwide.
The main tasks for the proletarian State is to amputate the repressive apparatuses of the State and to expropriate the capitalist ruling expropriators who expropriated our federalist republic.

Expropriate the Expropriators

Expropriating the Expropriators involves two main steps:
1 ) ending exploitation by transforming every corporate enterprise from a capitalist plutocratic form of governance (one-dollar-in-wealth-one-vote) to a communist democratic republic form of governance (one-worker-one-vote). This could be accomplished with a mere act of Congress in its power of regulating commerce to make corporate enterprises adhere to the constitutional guarantee of a republican form of government just as we expect with corporate municipalities (one-resident-one-vote).
This first item corresponds to what I call the zeroth plank of the Communist Manifesto:

The proletariat will use its political supremacy to wrest, by degree, all capital from the bourgeoisie, to centralise all instruments of production in the hands of the State, i.e., of the proletariat organised as the ruling class; and to increase the total productive forces as rapidly as possible.

Capitalism, in digging it own grave, has already conveniently centralized “all instruments of production in the hands of the State”, since most all such instruments of production are now owned by corporate enterprises which are themselves creations, components, and instruments of the State. Now all that is needed is to transform the form of governance of those corporations from plutocracy to democratic republic rule of law.
2) ensuring all natural resource rents accrue to the public treasury and distributing those rents equally as the Unconditional Universal Basic Income (UUBI). This is a plank of the Communist Manifesto that has been embraced by the Georgist movement (followed of Henry George) which they call the land value tax (LVT) and the social dividend (SD). This also restores constitutionality in that the constitutional prohibition on titles of nobility prohibits the grant of this power to take seigneurial rents (as in titles of nobility rents) from the public treasury.

Amputating/Crushing the Repressive Apparatuses

Much of this is inscribed, in an idealist form, in the bill of rights and the constitution, but is not taken seriously in most respects. Especially the tenet expressed in the Ninth Amendment matches Engels paraphrasing of Saint-Simon that “the government of persons is replaced by the administration of things” (Anti-Duhring 1877): in my preferred and more precise rendition, the reign over persons is replaced by the administration of common wealth and other common concerns.
Taking personal rights seriously means ending drug criminalization and other ‘vice’ laws, where the ‘viciousness’ of such vice laws is entirely on the part of the police state. Without those vice laws, and the poverty created by stealing from the poor to give to the rich capitalist rentiers, we will make the rights of the accused and the rights of the convicted align with a Just socialist republic.
All persons treated equally before the law, whether when it protects or punishes.
The standing armies (including police forces) replaced with a restoration of the Militia, guaranteed in the Second Amendment, including Militia platoons for local security instead of mercenary police troopers.

Commonwealth Administering Our Common Wealth

The administration of common wealth—the administration of things in Engels and Saint-Simon’s language—becomes the primary limited role of government (not to reign over persons in their private personal spheres regarding sexuality, recreational intoxicants, gender identity, reproductivity, migration, and so forth).
Such Commonwealth would be administered within nested jurisdictions from Global (through a renewed and reinvigorated UN general assembly and its organs), federal, state, county, municipal, and direct democrat town hall commune/community levels.
The primary common resources administered include:

Transport networks, whether passengers/persons/pedestrians or freight, data packets, and other things—as well as whether roadways, railways, electrical power networks, telecommunications networks, pipelines, and the like
Insurance risk pools to facilitate hedging against all customary risks
Money and payment systems
A common credit pool, insured for savers and lending to borrowers according to their credit histories and credit ratings, determined by publicly deliberated and determined policies
A common marketplace to buy and sell wares, with richly described facets of resources/commodities and deliberate measures to abate market imperfections such as positive and negative externalities, transaction cost frictions, missing information, and market dominance; also providing data on the prices of production and depreciation schedules for all customary resources, and other such salient data
Services for extractable natural resources: extracting, homogenizing, and auctioning such resources
A postal system that delivers merchandise from the common marketplace, provides a physical fallback for correspondence and periodicals delivered digitally, and accepts containers for recycling, reuse, or redemption otherwise (free to the postal customer, with redemption costs covered by a Pigouvian tax specifically honed to the container redemption/refuse demands of each specific commodity)
A cultural commons that provides vital information services such as a comprehensive digital resource lending library, digital identification (complementing physical identification mechanisms) and directory/authentication services, cryptographic authorizations, public DRM services, credit history and rating services, open source public applied research software development projects, and more
the nationalization of all armaments industries and implement industries that produce specialized non-fungible resources primarily for governments, so that instead governments acquire purely fungible commodities in a transparent and accountable manner and internally produce the specialized resources needed
globalization of all social media (US based social media nationalized and then turned over, in trust, to the UN) and then thus restoring the distributed and decentralized architecture of the original internet and web, that has been undermined by these behemoth monopolists—strict separation of internet services from internet hosting (also adding a system of distributed moderation, where we elect to subscribe to the moderator services of our choice, end user stylesheets determining the handling of censorship, and content is not otherwise censored)

Promotion Period

Eligibility

In order to be eligible, participants must be at least (whichever is higher): (i) 18 years old, or (ii) the age of majority in their state or country of their legal residence as of the date of entry, who have an active email account and Internet access. This Contest it not open to legal residents of Bangladesh, China, Colombia, Dubai, Egypt, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, Quebec of Canada, Singapore, South Australia and QLD, South Korea, Turkey. Any additional eligibility requirements will be indicated in the additional terms found on the applicable Contest webpage. Persons identified as “Blocked Persons” or persons subject to applicable sanctions prohibitions, including, without limitation, those persons listed on the U.S. Department of Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control’s Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List are not eligible to participate in the Contest. Entry Instructions

To participate in the Contest and be eligible for a potential prize, participants must complete one of the entry methods indicated on the applicable Contest webpage during the Promotion Period. One entry per individual, household and/or email address is permitted, regardless of method of entry, unless expressly set forth to the contrary in the additional terms found on the applicable Contest webpage. Drawing; Notification of Winners

All Contest entries meeting the requirements of these Official Rules will be entered into the Contest. A panel of judges appointed by Sponsor (“Judges'') will review the entries based on the judging criteria specified below and confirm/select the number of Contest winners as indicated on the Contest Page. The Judge's determination of the Contest winners is final and binding, subject to the below.

Prize

Each winner will receive the prize below. Intellectual Property

By participating in the Contest, each entrant grants to Sponsor a non-exclusive, worldwide, fully paid, royalty-free, perpetual, transferable license, with the right to sublicense, to reprint, display, reproduce, perform, use, and exhibit (including the right to make derivative works of) the entry and materials and information submitted on and in connection with the Contest or use or receipt of the prize for any and all purposes in any medium. If an entrant is selected as a winner, instead of the license granted above, each entrant grants to Sponsor an exclusive, worldwide, fully paid, royalty-free, perpetual, transferable license, with the right to sublicense, to reprint, display, reproduce, perform, use, and exhibit (including the right to make derivative works of) the entry and materials and information submitted on and in connection with the Contest or use or receipt of the prize for any and all purposes in any medium. Disputes

In the event of a dispute as to any participant, the authorized account holder of the email address associated with the entry will be deemed to be the participant. The “authorized account holder” is the natural person assigned an email address by an Internet access provider, online service provider or other organization responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted address. Each potential winner may be required to show proof of being the authorized account holder. ZAM will make final determination of identity of participants and timing of entries in its sole discretion.

Additional Conditions

ZAM reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to terminate, modify or suspend the Contest in whole or in part, if in ZAM’s opinion (a) the Contest is not capable of running as planned by reason of the occurrence of any event beyond its control including, but not limited to, fire, flood, epidemic, pandemic, earthquake, explosion, labor dispute or strike, act of God or public enemy, communications, equipment failure, utility or service interruptions, riot or civil disturbance, terrorist threat or activity, war (declared or undeclared), interference with the Contest by any party, or any federal, state, local or provincial government law, order, or regulation, order of any court or jurisdiction, or other cause not reasonably within ZAM’s control, or (b) any other factors beyond ZAM’s reasonable control corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of the Contest, in all instances without liability to the participants. Indemnification

You agree to release, indemnify, defend and hold ZAM and its parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, directors, officers, employees, sponsors and agents, including advertising and promotion agencies, and assigns, and any other organizations related to the Contest, harmless, from any and all claims, injuries, damages, expenses or losses to person or property and/or liabilities of any nature that in any way arise from participation in the Contest or acceptance or use of a prize or parts thereof, including, without limitation, (a) any condition caused by events beyond ZAM’s control that may cause the Contest to be disrupted or corrupted; (b) the prize, or acceptance, possession, or use of the prize, or from participation in the Contest; and (c) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the Contest.

Publicity

Except where prohibited, by participating in the Contest, you consent to the use of your name, photograph, likeness, voice, opinions, information, biographical information, entry and statements attributed to you (if true), hometown and jurisdiction of residence for advertising, publicity and promotional purposes, including without limitation, inclusion in ZAM’s newsletters, social media accounts and affiliated websites and the applicable Contest webpage, without further compensation.

Governing Law

These Official Rules, and any action related thereto, will be governed by the Federal Arbitration Act, federal arbitration law and the laws of the State of California without regard to conflict of laws provisions. Except as otherwise expressly set forth in Section 15 “Dispute Resolution and Arbitration” the exclusive jurisdiction for all Disputes (defined below) that you and ZAM are not required to arbitrate will be the state and federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California and you and ZAM each waive any objection to jurisdiction and venue in such courts.

Dispute Resolution and Arbitration
Mandatory Arbitration of Disputes. We each agree that any dispute, claim or controversy arising out of or relating to these Official Rules or the breach, termination, enforcement, interpretation or validity thereof or participation in the Contest (collectively, “Disputes”) will be resolved solely by binding, individual arbitration and not in a class, representative or consolidated action or proceeding. You and ZAM agree that the U.S. Federal Arbitration Act governs the interpretation and enforcement of these Official Rules, and that you and ZAM are each waiving the right to a trial by jury or to participate in a class action. This arbitration provision shall survive termination of these Official Rules.
Exceptions. As limited exceptions to Section 15(a) above: (i) we both may seek to resolve a Dispute in small claims court if it qualifies; and (ii) we each retain the right to seek injunctive or other equitable relief from a court to prevent (or enjoin) the infringement or misappropriation of our intellectual property rights.
Conducting Arbitration and Arbitration Rules. The arbitration will be conducted by the American Arbitration Association (“AAA”) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules (the “AAA Rules”) then in effect, except as modified by these Official Rules. The AAA Rules are available at www.adr.org or by calling 1-800-778-7879. A party who wishes to start arbitration must submit a written Demand for Arbitration to AAA and give notice to the other party as specified in the AAA Rules. The AAA provides a form Demand for Arbitration at www.adr.org. Any arbitration hearings will take place in the county (or parish) where you live, unless we both agree to a different location. The parties agree that the arbitrator shall have exclusive authority to decide all issues relating to the interpretation, applicability, enforceability and scope of this arbitration agreement.
Arbitration Costs. Payment of all filing, administration and arbitrator fees will be governed by the AAA Rules, and we won’t seek to recover the administration and arbitrator fees we are responsible for paying, unless the arbitrator finds your Dispute frivolous. If we prevail in arbitration we’ll pay all of our attorneys’ fees and costs and won’t seek to recover them from you. If you prevail in arbitration you will be entitled to an award of attorneys’ fees and expenses to the extent provided under applicable law.
Injunctive and Declaratory Relief. Except as provided in 13(b) above, the arbitrator shall determine all issues of liability on the merits of any claim asserted by either party and may award declaratory or injunctive relief only in favor of the individual party seeking relief and only to the extent necessary to provide relief warranted by that party’s individual claim. To the extent that you or we prevail on a claim and seek public injunctive relief (that is, injunctive relief that has the primary purpose and effect of prohibiting unlawful acts that threaten future injury to the public), the entitlement to and extent of such relief must be litigated in a civil court of competent jurisdiction and not in arbitration. The parties agree that litigation of any issues of public injunctive relief shall be stayed pending the outcome of the merits of any individual claims in arbitration.
Class Action Waiver. YOU AND ZAM AGREE THAT EACH MAY BRING CLAIMS AGAINST THE OTHER ONLY IN YOUR OR ITS INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY, AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PURPORTED CLASS OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING. Further, if the parties’ Dispute is resolved through arbitration, the arbitrator may not consolidate another person’s claims with your claims, and may not otherwise preside over any form of a representative or class proceeding. If this specific provision is found to be unenforceable, then the entirety of this Dispute Resolution and Arbitration section shall be null and void.

Funding the HSR project had been a long battle, however I believe that a sales tax would be able to atleast help the project. This tax wouldn’t be for the entire state just the counties the line will serve. The tax collected will then be used for the projects in the respective county.
Has this been ever brought up by the authority?

I know some states charge tax and others do not. I've also heard that some places you pay a state tax AND a local tax. I found this article from 2020 but that was a while ago so not sure if it's changed. Is there anyone in Orange County FL here? Or even elsewhere in FL who can tell me how much you pay in tax? 2023.06.08 18:16 Speerdo Douglas County Tax Assessments Appear To Favor The Rich

While challenging my county tax assessment, I compiled a list of all the homes in my area that sold in the past 12 months. I compared the sale price to the assessed 2023 taxable value to see if the county are hitting the mark or not. At least in my area during this timeframe, the more expensive your house, the more undervalued your tax assessment. In other words, the richer you are, the less property taxes you're paying, at least in this data set which is admittedly not very large.

All public data from Zillow and the Douglas county assessor's website. Not doxing anyone here.

Y-axis is the percentage that the '23 assessed value is oveunder the actual sale price over the prior 12 months.
I have three theories:

Rich dude cronyism. Maybe it's nefarious, maybe it's more subconscious bias.
Rich people are simply more likely to challenge their tax assessments and/or those challenges are more likely to be accepted? With more money at play, I get that rich people are more likely to challenge, but are they more likely to be accepted? Anyone know where I can find data on challenges and outcomes for the list above?
There was a study that I can't track down right now that showed a tendency/bias of individuals to error on the side of a perceived midpoint when estimating numbers. For example, a study participant was more likely to guess that a 100 lb person is, for example, 110 lbs while a 300 lb person is 280 lbs. Is that all this is? Someone's bias creeping into the formulas used?

Not making any hard accusations or assumptions here. Just sharing the data that seems concerning. Thoughts? Explanations? Anyone know any new cuss words?

Recently received our 2023 tax assessment on our home and it has increased by an unbelievable 45% from last year's assessment. The increase will result in thousands of dollars more in property taxes than it was last year.
I almost have to believe the County has made a mistake and am I am planning to protest the increased assessment.
Anyone have any experience with challenging their property tax assessment and how successful were you?

Methodology for swing states: Added NC as a swing state as: 2020 margin ~74k (Trump) 2022 GOP senate margin with R Trump backed candidate ~114k, while Dems total got outspent 2:1 (October 2022 politico) Added Virginia as swing state as it was flipped +12 by Glenn Youngkin, a very similar candidate to non-Trump prospective GOP nominees like Ron Desantis.

Arizona Cari Lake ( Trump backed) lost by <1% in an non presidential year election even though Mark Kelly won by ~5%, largest margin for Dem senator since DeConcini (1988). Lean R for both Trump vs Biden Lean R for DeSantis vs Biden
Wisconsin Dem governor won by 3%>, GOP senator won by 2%>, epitome of swing state I gave it blank since GOP is having convention, and primary debates there, but Dems had convention in Philly 2016, and in Charlotte in 2012 and lost both. Way too early * Virginia Flipped by Glen Youngkin by 12 pts in 2021. Youngkin (crt, life starts at conception, anti-climate change) (signed bill getting rid of state portion of Virginia grocery tax,funded HBCUs (by removing it from DACA recipients), removed college req for some state jobs, endorsed by only black governor in Virginia history, squeezed more margins out of Trump 2020 Appalachia counties(crt/inflation Dem flips?) This is the way too early part, if Youngkin gets in the race, largely cause he can’t run in 2025 for governor, and finishes 3rd to Desantis and Trump which I think he would… it might make Virginia more interesting iffff combined with Youngkin running, GOP are able to capture both the state senate and state house in the local elections of the state.
By the way MASSIVE LOCAL ELECTIONS in Virginia this year, all 40 of the state senate and all 100 of the state house of delegates are up. I don’t see any Dems/ Dem media talking about it. Youngkin at the root of it is a ‘life start at conception,’ Republican that will definitely sign a heartbeat bill or worse. If pro-choice folks want to protect any sort of reproductive rights in the entire south, the GOP cannot be allowed to get at least 1 of the houses.

Hello all. I live in Allegheny county and was wondering if anyone knew anything regarding what to do with vacant properties, squatter's rights, etc.
So I have a vacant property besides mine that consists basically of hills and woods. The hillside encroaches on my property and I always have to cut it back to ensure snakes and ticks stay out of my yard and away from my pets. Lately I've been thinking of acquiring it since I take care of it.
After looking at the county GIS, it shows the property last changed owners in 1906, and has multiple years of back taxes owed. I would normally reach out to the owner but it seems they've been dead for several years and now the property is in limbo. There are no structures on the property either. The lot would be slightly larger than my current lot.
My question is, what could I do to obtain this land? I know Allegheny county has the vacant lot repurposing program which I've looked into, but the parcel fee alone being 5 grand turns me off as the land probably isn't even worth that.
My neighbor says I get squatter's rights after 6 years but everything I read says 21 years. Is there anything I can do since it has multiple years of back taxes owed besides the vacant lot program? Any and all tips would be helpful.
