This is my first post. I watched the Duggar Documentary over the weekend, and related to all of it. After it ended, I fell down the internet rabbit hole, and discovered this group, along with the FB WELS Cult Recovery page. I grew-up WELS K-12…went to MLS, but attended public university. I can relate to EVERY post on here!!! It is so nice to find like minded people. My immediate family and extended family are still VERY involved with the church, and often I would wonder what was wrong with me? Why am I not like them? My family proudly touts the “fact” that 4 generations of our family graduated from MLS…I would never in 1-million years send any of my kids there.
My experience in K-8, was filled with bullying. The kids at my school were extremely cliquey, and because my parents were divorced and I hung-out with public school kids, it often felt that i didn’t fit-in. I always wondered how the Christian” kids, that should know better, we’re so mean?
At MLS, my experience was ok. I luckily did not have some of the same problems as my peers. But here are the main takeaways from my experience there:
-the “cool” kids are the PK’s.
-Zexing is a form of hazing that is fully endorsed by the faculty
-there were professors there that had a reputation for giving you a good grade in their classes if you wore a short skirt.

-I had friends and classmates that were groomed and preyed upon by the disgusting, power hungry, male teachers. Their lives are screwed up forever, yet that professor still had a job.

-attending MLC after was HIGHLY encouraged…to the point, if you were graduating too of the class, but going to a public university, you were not eligible to be valedictorian, and received ZERO public recognition for your hard work. We also had one-on-one meetings with the Dean tell you all the amazing things about MLC, and if you had a different plan for yourself (which I did) it was heavily questioned and I would have to defend my position of not wanting to be a Lutheran teacher.
-you are NEVER allowed to question anything. You drink the koolaid and follow the teachings blindly. Sadly…not questioning anything is still an issue I’m working on 25 years later.
I was never into the WELS to the same degree as the rest of my family…it was probably all the public school friends I made outside of church LOL.
We were so ingrained in the WELS teachings, that I felt guilty even considering switching to LCMS!
Eventually, I did switch to LCMS, and that placated my mom and extended family for a while. Then I had kids. As the kids got older, I tried to do the whole church thing with them…I really did. It never felt right to me, but with all the brainwashing I had as a child, there was always a small voice in the back of my mind, that I would go to hell if I didn’t continue going.
When my eldest daughter started confirmation classes in the 6th grade, I realized the “things” she was being taught were the COMPLETE opposite of how we were living our lives at home. So that was the final straw for me. I was NOT going to force my daughters to believe that they are nothing, because they’re not a man…that they have no choice over their bodies…that they are only as good as their husband and the amount of kids they have. And, I certainly wasn’t going to allow my son to ever think that he was superior to any woman just because she’s a woman. I also have very close friends that are part of the LGBTQ community, and my children were certainly not going to believe that these people are going to hell.
I also found a lot of judgement within all the different WELS/LCMS churches I have tried over the years. They are not welcoming to outsiders, and really don’t like you as a human being if you are not sitting in that church pew every Sunday.
I have never dated or been married to someone in the church, and would often defend my upbringing when partners or other “outsiders” would call it a cult. However, for decades I knew something wasn’t right and finally made the move to never go back 8 years ago.
My kids often make fun of me when I randomly start singing a hymn, or when I can repeat a passage from the Bible from all the crazy memorization! I can’t imagine ever having my kids grow up in a world where free-thought is not welcome.
Anyway…I saved myself, saved my family, and after watching that doc…admit that I was raised in a cult. I’m so happy to have found my people.

Jeysus it was a mess, I paid to rent a chainsaw so I can cut a tree limb my insurance company wanted me to take care of. The stupid thing won't start. I look up the manual online (the rental came with zero documentation, real classy) and from what I could tell it just wouldn't. I call em up, they ask me if I pressed every switch and told me just to bring the thing in.
Im angry but I was taught respect. They didn't give me a busted chainsaw on purpose, so I drive up there and they confirm it won't work(I got to keep my man card there, 😅) they give me a new one. It runs!
I take it home, get the tree limb down. I turn it off to xlimb down the ladder, go to start it again.
It wont.
I check gas and oil, press every button while tuggin on the cord, try locking and unlocking the blade...nothin.
Worst part is the limb was blocking a road leading to a different house, it was too heavy to move easily, so I had to use my hand saw to trim off the longer branches and get it out of the way. It's still just a giant tree limb sitting next to my fence so thats great. Could have been worse.
I have had a life long fear of heights and ladders, but I bought a house last year and I had to buy a ladder accept that I would have to climb it.
It's been a tough year. And Home Depot selling me crap equipment didn't help me at all today, but I got the tree limb cut and my insurer will be pleased.

I’m determined to beat my ex-best friend.
Not in a physical way.
We were best friends for a couple years, and our sons were born just a couple months apart. We both are cake decorators and worked together at a bakery. She learned all of her skills from me at the bakery.
We have since both stopped working there and started to do cakes at home. I had a second baby, so I stepped away from it for a while and was a stay at home mom. She blew up in business.
One day, I had asked my husband if he cared if I went over to her house. He said he’d rather I stay home and spend time with family. She called him an a-hole, so he retaliated and said “especially not if she’s going to be a b—ch”.
A week went by and I didn’t think anything of it and noticed we hadn’t texted. She told ne that she was trying to take a step back because she was upset that I didn’t defend her to my husband. She said she wasn’t going to stand for that.
I completely understood where she was coming from, but he’s my husband and she attacked first. After a long talk, she decided she didn’t want to be friends anymore. I was confused but it was fine.
The next day, she sent me a text telling me that I was a horrible friend and never there for her. I decided to block all communications from her.
Every now and then, I see how popular she is with baking and cake orders. I get genuinely jealous and feel this deep need to beat her at it. I want to be popular and successful. I am so determined to kick ass.
I feel like a bad person for wanting to take her business but I also feel like she wouldn’t be where she is if it weren’t for me, and it makes me upset that she harnessed those skills and then took off.

Went to the range today with my M&P 5.7 for the second time today. Walked up to the line, loaded my weapon, and squeezed the trigger. Heard a "click," but no bang. Tap and rack. Squeeze the trigger again and the same thing happened. Tap and rack. After the third time I knew something was wrong with my gun. Looked at the primers of the rounds I ejected and there's no sign of a primer strike. Field stripped my weapon, looked, and didn't see the tip of the firing pin. I then manipulated the firing pin by depressing the firing pin block and pushing the firing pin as far forward as possible. The tip of the firing pin did not stick out. I haven't taken the firing pin out to inspect it yet, but I know it's broken.
I've only fired about 300 rounds out of this gun and have only had it a month. I'm really disappointed in this, and I'm looking for advice as to what I should do. Looking at their website, it seems that I'm gonna have to ship it to them for any kind of warranty repair. That's probably gonna cost me more than just buying a firing pin out right. Has anyone here delt with their warranty process? Thanks

So my Garuda Linux installation upgraded to Python 3.11. I also downloaded the SABnzbd-4.0.1 unix tarball from the website.
Upon running the SABnzbd-4.0.1 i get the following error message -

Currently job searching. 1.5, nearly 2 YoE, iOS engineer. Just been applying to new jobs trying to raise my junior pay (~$83,000 USD base, with the full range of benefits, energy company). Job market still seems as tough, if not tougher, as when I was a new grad/just got my degree, thanks to the recent layoffs I presume. I’ve been shooting over my belt by applying for jobs that look for more experience than I have too. Among the apps I put out, one was accidentally with a staffing agency who claim they can get me a role at FAANG, but the way my coworkers who “work” for contracting agencies themselves, it sounds like you’re just stuck waiting for a FTE convert that never comes, while they sap a portion of the salary you’d make otherwise. Is it worth it? Should I keep trying my hand for direct hire roles?

I’ve been renting in Toronto for nearly 10 years now, A+ record and never missed/been late paying rent or utilities. I’ve moved around a few times for work and have LL references from 2 of my past 4 LLs. The other 2 (one being my current) are corporate LLs so it was not possible to request references (I’ve contacted the property management before but received no reply for this). I’ll be looking for a new rental later this month and am wondering how important a current LL reference is? My mom was emotionally, verbally and mentally abusive to me. I told I friend I was being abused so she can help me leave. The next day I was scrolling through YouTube shorts when someone rang the doorbell. It was Adult Protective Services. They game me some information and left it at that. And when my mom came home she wasn’t happy. I told my mom that I just talked about alternative housing. When I really talked about the abuse my mom put me through. The same day my mom’s bf asked if I wanted to go live with my grandma. And I said yes. Later we started packing. And when my mom started helping me pack, oh boy. She was just awful to me. She even said she no longer wants to have a relationship with me. All because I called her out on her abuse to me. And then it was time for me to leave. I had all my stuff loaded into my mom’s bf’s truck and my mom kept telling me “have a great life” and she said that she doesn’t think that she verbally abuses me. And she said she’s gonna be “the adult in the situation” and I said I’ll be an adult too by walking away. When I went out the door I could hear her slamming stuff around and it scared me. I was at my grandma house the next day. My grandma got a text message saying that if I don’t stop telling my friends my mom emotionally abuses me she will stop paying for my phone. But it turned out to be an empty threat. My mom has abused me for years. I’m so glad I moved out

I am a foster child. Before I was fostered, I was an only child. Now I have three siblings.
Growing up an only child made me fiercely independent. I've had a hard life since I was young and I learnt how to cope with difficulties. I can't say I'm perfect but I've been strong.
Now having a sister who had grown up in a completely different environment from me, I was surprised by how she deals with her problems. She's 18 years old. Somehow every little inconvenience will ruin her day, she wants for a lot and mopes when she doesn't get them, she's easily envious, she's nonfunctional for days and leaves our room in a complete mess. Of course she's not all bad, she's become my best friend and we understand each other, we treat each other on dates sometimes, all the sisterly stuff. But often I feel like I'm walking on eggshells around her, afraid something might trigger her moods again, then she won't eat or sleep, and rehashes old problems. It's come to the point that it affects me as well. I try to comfort and help her as best as I can but I worry about what will happen to her without me, or if I get tired of it in the long term.
Can someone please help me? How do you tell if it's "kaartehan" or if someone's genuinely depressed? I am someone who believes there is some merit to resiliency (ofc not to the point of being abused), and I think her problems are something that can be brushed off. I may be wrong and it might mean the world to her. For more context, I think she's at an exploration phase, she wants to go to clubs (our parents won't let her, or they make sure she has a chaperone), and all those teenager things where she needs skincare and she worries that she's "glowed-down", etc. I think there are some academic worries as well but the parents don't pressure her. These are problems I don't fully understand because I've never had the opportunity to have them. It'd be very welcome if someone could share their own experience and enlighten me.
It affects me whenever she complains about things like how we don't have this or that, and I want to say life is like that but I don't because it might hurt her (we're not poor but we're not rich either). Or when she's being nonfunctional and asks me to do her assignments, which leaves me sleepless because I can't refuse her but I also have my own tasks to do, etc. One time she came home drunk and puked in our bedroom, refused to clean it because it'll just make her "puke some more". Our dad ended up cleaning it but I felt uncomfortable.
I've long wanted to tell her to be a bit more strong, but I don't know how. That approach may be a wrong move. I don't want to sound like I'm parroting things off YouTube like stoicism and being antifragile and whatnot.
Does she need a counselor? This family doesn't really believe in psychology, looks down on talks of depression so I don't know if this is an option. Or do I just weather it and let her grow up? Do I leave this to the parents? I suppose it's part of being an older sister now. How do I give her advice without hurting or invalidating her?

I've searched this subreddit, and there are zero results for Tiger Tail. When I google Tiger tail Montreal, I get a few articles that reference it, but no specific locations. Walmart's website lists it, but their site says they may not stock it in locations near me.
I posted this earlier, and the post was removed because I wasn't clear that I've made an effort to find this info on my own. I've been searching, calling shops, visiting ice cream shops all over the city. This isn't laziness, this is a complete inability to find my favorite ice cream flavour anywhere in town. I had one reply suggesting Savannah's in Dorval, which I'll definitely check out, but if anyone has any other leads I'd love to hear about them!
