This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 66%. (I'm a bot)
HALIFAX - Thick plumes of heavy smoke filled the sky over Halifax on Sunday as an out-of-control fire in a suburban community quickly spread, engulfing homes and forcing the evacuation of thousands of residents.
"The fire in Tantallon is obviously very out of control," Halifax Fire district Chief Rob Hebb said in an interview, referring to a community that's a 30-minute drive northwest of downtown Halifax.
Hebb said there were no reports of injuries but he stressed that the fire was quickly moving eastward, driven by steady winds at 15 to 20 kilometres per hour, with gusts reported at 40 km/h.
The second alert, shared shortly after 6 p.m., said the fire had spread and the evacuation order was issued for the Highland Park subdivision in Hammonds Plains.
Hebb said Halifax region firefighters were also trying to douse brush fires in the Lawrencetown and Fall River areas, and he said a call came in for an ammonia leak at a rink in Bedford.
The fire about an hour southeast of Yarmouth "Escaped containment" on Saturday night as searing winds propelled flames through a largely forested area around Barrington Lake, Department of Natural Resources spokesperson Patricia Jreige said in a statement.

2023.05.28 23:15 LastWeekInCollapse Last Week in Collapse: May 21-27, 2023

Microplastics, climate denial, contagious skin fungus, warlords, record temperatures, and wheat troubles. This is starting to get serious.
Last Week in Collapse: May 21-27, 2023
This is Last Week in Collapse, a weekly newsletter bringing together some of the most important, timely, useful, depressing, ironic, amazing, or otherwise must-see moments in Collapse.
This is the 73rd newsletter. Sorry it’s a bit later than usual. You can find the May 14-20 edition here if you missed it last week. These newsletters are also on Substack if you want them sent to your email inbox every Sunday.
——————————
Climate and soil scientists are warning that Europe’s soil won’t be able to absorb as much water now, after a season of terrible drought. The feedback loops spell disaster for the continent’s ability to weather the coming drought. France has given up aiming for just a 1.5 °C temperature increase, and are preparing for 4 °C rise by 2100. Scientists claim we are heading for total disaster, but the rest of the world apparently has bigger problems.
The world is allegedly on track for 2.7 °C of warming, and some experts predict that about one billion humans may be forced to migrate as a result of global warming, sea level rise, etc. Iraq is one such location, and countless migrants have already fled. On Twitter, climate scientists report seeing more hostility and climate denial.
Category 5 Typhoon Mawar blasted Guam, and took out electricity, but no humans were killed on the island. In Somalia, over one million people were displaced by drought within the last 4 months.
A ship’s draft/draught) is the distance between its waterline and the bottom of its keel/hull. This determines a ship’s displacement; the heavier a ship’s cargo, the greater its draft will be. The Panama Canal is reducing the allowed vessel draft because they didn’t receive enough rain in the last few months and cannot fully fill the Canal’s locks. As a result, more ships will be forced to make the long journey around Cape Horn—or load up with less cargo to transit the Canal. The supply chain feedback loops are compounding.
Chad saw its highest May temperature last week—47 °C (117 °F), and part of Samoa tied a new May temperature too—34.8 °C (101 °F) . New record temperatures in Southeast Asia again. The ocean around the Cayman Islands has hit 30 °C earlier than any previous year. The average sea surface temperature has been breaking daily records for every day for over two months.
Experts are warning that a heat wave would devastate Phoenix, Arizona, if it knocked out the power grid. Up to 800,000 people (half the population) would allegedly require emergency medical attention for heat stroke, etc. The study concluded that about 12,800 people would die as a result.
Although most of the world is warming, the upper atmosphere is cooling down, forcing scientists and generals to consider its potential impact on satellites and on our sensitive weather patterns. Temperatures beyond roughly 50km out in the atmosphere have been cooled by CO2 levels. Concrete implications from the study are unclear.
About 5,000 Congolese are still missing weeks after catastrophic flooding. Wildfire risk is increasing in Sweden. Heat wave alerts in Sri Lanka.
A study has claimed—again—that species are going extinct even faster than expected. About half of surveyed species have seen population declines recently (especially in the tropics), while 49% are holding relatively steady.
One species at risk of dieoff is the black sea urchin off the coast of Israel—and their dieoff hold grim implications for the health of coral in the Red Sea.
Tick season has begun, and researchers are worried that they can transfer prions from white-tailed deer to humans. Chronic wasting disease has not yet afflicted humans, though it exists in growing quantities among Canadian cervids.
——————————
The danger from fungi is growing as a result of climate change, and the rise of Candida Auris—and a resistant, contagious skin fungus coming out of India—in the U.S. is alarming epidemiologists. The combination of compromised immune systems (from COVID, increased diabetes), climate change, distrust of health entities, health insurance problems, and healthcare worker collapse are creating a terrible convergence of circumstances.
Over 5,000 new species have been discovered in the ocean between Hawai’i and Mexico—and in two months, applications will be accepted to begin deep-sea mining extraction operations in the region. Meanwhile, Shell shareholders rejected attempts to accept new emissions targets, 80% to 20%.
German police are looking into classifying “Last Generation” climate activists as part of a criminal group, amid raids targeting the traffic-stopping activists.
Greenpeace claims that recycled plastic can be more toxic than first-use plastic—but don’t worry, only 9% of plastic is recycled worldwide. A study from Hazardous Materials Advances concluded that recycling plastics produces large amounts of microplastics which later contaminate our land, water, and even air.
The U.S. Supreme Court limited the scope of the Clean Water Act, to exclude certain types of wetlands. This opens up some wetlands to nearby development and pollution.
Some Kansas wheat farmers suffered so much drought and cold snaps that they are abandoning their crops. Across the country, one third of winter-wheat acres are being abandoned, the highest percent in over 100 years. Utah’s Great Salt Lake is drying up, and strong winds are blowing dust, sometimes containing heavy metals.
Locusts in Afghanistan are threatening the coming wheat harvests in an already famine-stricken land. Argentina will face a similar problem if they don’t get rain within a few weeks.
——————————
South Africa is suffering from 33% unemployment and devastating, 10-hour load-shedding (routine power outages) every day. A senior politician is warning that the crumbling nation could become a failed state soon. Power grid troubles are expected to escalate later this winter, by August.
A teenage girl in Guyana set fire to her dorm and unintentionally killed 19 people—because her cell phone was confiscated. What will society do when their water and human rights are confiscated?
Russia is supposedly considering an export ban on gasoline, in an attempt to better control supply & prices within its own territory. Qatar warned Europe that they haven’t seen the worst of the petrol/energy crisis yet.
Global demand for goods is reportedly sinking, and the production of shipping containers is down. More and more Americans are struggling to pay bills as inflation rises. Germany is officially in recession now. South Africa’s interest rates are at a 14-year high.
Some experts are concerned that China may overtake the U.S. with AI development. Others are concerned about the implications of an AI future dominated by the United States. Experts are calling for regulation of AI before it destroys humans.
Cambodia’s ruling party is keeping the opposition party off the ballots in this July’s elections.
The ceasefire in Khartoum is largely holding, but sporadic violence by fighters threatens the fragile “peace” in the city. Once a War “begins,” what role do the civilians have in re-instituting peace—or keeping the conflict going?
The head of the Wagner Group is warning of revolution in Russia, a portent that may also be a threat. The mercenary group is currently handing over Bakhmut to the Russian Army, and claims that about 20,000 Wagner soldiers died taking the city. Meanwhile, a pro-Ukrainian group of ethnic-Russian soldiers made attacks inside Russian territory, and soon withdrew back into Ukraine.
Russia’s former President and PM claimed that this War could last for decades. Yet certain unspecified NATO member states will give F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, and train about 20 Ukrainian pilots, in an effort to force an earlier conclusion. Yet their impact may not be decisive on the battlefield.
Seven U.S. states agreed on a three-year water-sharing compromise over the Colorado River’s water; whether the pact will hold when the Dust Bowl 2.0 begins is up in the air. Meanwhile, troops from Afghanistan and Iran exchanged machine gun fire and some mortars, over water rights in the Helmand River.
——————————
Things to watch for next week include:
↠ It’s that time of the year again. American politicians posture over raising the debt ceiling, a massive political/economic struggle that usually ends with a last-minute compromise or a short government shutdown. The U.S. is set to default on its debt on June 1st, which would damage trust and cause market bedlam. What’s it gonna be this time?
↠ Uruguay’s capital, Montevideo, is rapidly running out of water. The city’s main reservoir only had 10 days left of water—5 days ago. So the city’s supply is set to be exhausted by next Friday. How will the government react—and what will the people do? This might be a signal of what lies ahead for the rest of us.
Select comments/threads from the subreddit last week suggest:
-China will be getting 65M COVID cases—every week—if you believe the claims made in this thread and its sources, which include the Chinese government. The world’s second-most-populous nation, once the last bastion against COVID, has resigned to letting rolling waves of coronavirus repeatedly infect the masses. So it goes.
-Some rich countries will fare very poorly in Collapse, judging by the comments on this thread. Do you see your nation among them?
-Climate change may be worse than you think, says a thread and its comments. Even some doomers will be taken aback by the speed and scale of the damage ahead. What are you doing to prepare?
Have any feedback, questions, comments, resources, Collapse tattoos, recipes, aches or pains, spam mail, etc.? Consider joining the Last Week in Collapse SubStack if you don’t want to check collapse every Sunday, you can get this newsletter sent to your email inbox every weekend. I always forget something... 2023.05.28 22:39 Asatyaholic THE SCIENCE OF THE SERPENT

I have, since 2019, been quite vocal , regarding the fact that we are in the first Bowl of God's Wrath and the final phases of the apocalypse are underway. Numerous prophetical texts from several religious systems, most notably the Book of Enoch and Revelation, support this notion. Long story short 2012 was a major sign post on the apocalyptic highway. For you, dear reader, the most relevant verse concerning the immediate future - and the subject of this post is:
" And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath upon the earth. And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image."
If you're ready then, let's explore...

The Mark of the Beast and How it Relates to Skin Disease!

To begin with we must DEFINE the mechanisms through which skin eruptions are made manifest. We are focusing on the most violent skin eruptions known to man - which will characterize the coming epidemic. To do so You MUST become literate in toxicology - the scientific study of poison - the art of the Serpent."
Let's figure out just what the serpents art is:
Numbers 21:
5 Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water!”
6 Then the Lord sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died.
8 The Lord said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.”
"Hezekiah broke into pieces the bronze snake known as Nehushtan Moses had made, for up to that time the Israelites had worshipped it through burnt offerings " 2King 18:4
Moses had originally told the Israelites to worshp Nehushtan to prevent death due to the flying "burning serpents" that infested the great and terrible place of the desert wilderness (Num.21:4-9; Deut.8:15). The Hebrew word for "poisonous" "Burning" as in the defining sensation of a snakebite, a feeling to which is compared God's wrath (Numbers 11:1). Isaiah indicates that these saraphs are comparable to vipers, worse than ordinary serpents and agents of the divine will (Isaiah 14:29).
"Interestingly, in Biblical Hebrew there is a fascinating strong etymological connection between the ‘Nachash’ and forbidden magics. The Biblical Hebrew word for ‘sorcery’ or ‘witchcraft’ is the SAME root as the word for ‘SERPENT’ – i.e. Nachash’! {נחש}
In Modern Hebrew, the old verb ‘Le-Nachesh’ {לנחש} – which meant ‘to make a witchcraft’ has shifted from it's original meaning to intend divination and guesswork. The word witchcraft called in the New Testament (pharmakeia) preserves the meaning of "applied toxicology" as it means to drug or poison - particularly as a tool of human sacrifice. This connection is revealed in the etymologically associated festivals of " Pharmakos -(Wikipedia)" - which was a ritual in which the undesirables of a community would be sacrificed as a cleansing and healing rite. In the Judaic tradition this is recalled on the day of atonement (Yom Kippur) where Azazel (Associated with Lucifer, the Serpent, the Morning Star) is symbolically sacrificed as a Sin Offering. The symbol of Nahushtan - the image of the snake on a pole - is utilized as the symbol of Pharmacy and Medicine to this very day with all the same meaning it held millenia ago.
This knowledge is the KEY to the LITERAL script which governs all human activities past present and future -, which has been revealed through various "Scriptures".
For example it describes how Satan the great deciever conquers all human structures of governance, and his methods of enslaving mankind.
Nahum 3:4 the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.
2Peter 2:3 Many shall follow the cunning deceits of the false prophets who scheme to promote suicidal fallacies; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. Driven by their lust for power they shall with feigned words make merchandise of you...
Rev 18:23 for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy pharmakaia were all nations deceived.

Now back to the skin sores; which are mentioned throughout the Bible. Think of the ten plagues that the Egyptians are hit with or the afflictions that strike the Phillistines after they steal the Ark - Deut 28:27 states simply regarding the transgressors against the LORD: "Yahweh will smite you with the Egyptian boils, with hemorrhoids, scars and itch from which you will never be healed - you will be stricken with permanent madness, blindness and confusion of mind. "
So, let's get back to how black magic involving DRUGGING/POISONING is involved in SKIN SORES.
"Cutaneous adverse drug reactions are unpredictable and include various diferent skin conditions of varying degrees of severity. The most concerning and dangerous are referred to as Drug Reactions with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS), severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs), drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome, and Stevens–Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). "
-From Mechanisms of Severe Cutaneous Adverse Reactions: Recent Advances
Did you catch that? Yes, the worst skin diseases in existence, typified by everything from whole body blisters to skin detachment, blindness, and permanent brain damage.... are due to drug reactions. Basically think of combining mentos and diet coke in a bottle - it's a fairly powerful little chemical reaction - only your body is the bottle and the candy and soda are a variety of different chemical poisons reacting together in your blood, which are forced out of your blood violently as pustules, nasty rashes, and sores. Basically all of these eruptions emerge due to a failure of the filtration organs, which normally prevent the mentos diet coke reaction from occuring. Once things combine that shouldn't the energy the reaction produces encourages more of the same sorts of reactions. Next thing you know, KABLAM - violent skin reaction!
Although not well understood, it is thought that inefficient drug detoxification leading to the accumulation of drug reactive metabolites causes autoimmune responses in skin and some internal organs.
So that's the 101 study of violent skin disease. You got your mentos, you got your coke, they combine in your blood. Now more on the ancient nature of this simple scientific truth:
Numerous examples exist of organized men working to together to harness the powers of "applied toxicology"... whether in regards to largescale warfare or assassination - or the preservation of food or human lives via medicine.. it's no stretch to say that toxicology and those who masterfully applied it are the single greatest maintainers and destroyers of human life- period.
The Spartans dammed whole rivers during sieges, filled the resulting lake with toxic poisons such as hellbore, and then reconnected the thirsty city to the water supply - the scheme resulted in the successful capture of the city... and one can assume that such tactics did not fall into disuse despite their relative rarity in the preserved history of the species.
Or the history of medical experimentation on the pooslaves (as Catherine de Medici was notorious for). Urban pollution falls also under this umbrella... powerful men for whome "owning mines and factories" is an ancient tradition... have been releasing tons of poisons into the ecosystems of human populations and observing the effects for some time (withholding, of course, their "trade secrets" from the toxified populace).
The ancient Egyptian priesthood would distill cyanide from peaches to assassinate dissidents and other threats to their hierarchy.
Or how about the venetian council of ten and their plot to saturate trade goods with arsenic and "the fluids distilled from the spleens of plague victims" in order to indiscriminately poison the turkish populations...
All of these arts are examples of black magic. And classically this was called witchcraft.
Skin eruptions and plagues generally are afflictions of mankind which David refers to as "the sword of the Lord" - AND ABSOLUTELY Yes, as the book of Exodus suggest, the capacity to generate plagues is a defining characteristic of the Biblical deity - and wherever we find humans transgressing against the will of "Jehova" or his prophets, we find a variety of disease afflicting them. Deuteronomy goes into great detail concerning the nature of this "curse" against his enemies.

Proprotein convertase FURIN regulates T cell receptor …

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25926688
WebCollectively, our work confirms the hypothesis that the TCR-regulated protease FURIN plays an important role in T cell activation and that it can specifically modulate TCR-activated
Thus, our results indicate that furin is indispensable in maintaining peripheral tolerance, which is due, at least in part, to its non-redundant, essential function in regulating TGF-β1 production. Targeting furin has emerged as a strategy in malignant and infectious disease5,6. Our results suggest that inhibiting furin might activate immune responses, but may result in a breakdown in peripheral tolerance.

2023.05.28 21:56 DemolitionMatter Not only not all men are bad towards women, but only a low minority of men are a threat and they aren't regular men. Here's the evidence:

You often hear feminists use the analogy of treating all ticks with suspicion even if many won't have lyme disease or avoiding Russian Roulette because of the 1 in 6 chance of death as a justification for treating men with suspicion and why it's wrong to say "not all men". They all like to say "enough men are like this for us to fear men and you can't know which men will hurt you". Uh, actually you can get some clues on which men are dangerous. Here are some facts you should know, divided by section for all the lazy TL;DR demanders.
Women don't have a constant fear all the time of being raped and murdered.
This is a big myth spread by feminists. In fact, according to Gallup, since 2000, the percentage of women who occasionally or frequently worry about being raped ranged from 29 to 38%, with the average being 33%. This includes women who worry just occasionally, yet not frequently. 29% of women and 33% of women rarely and never worried about being raped, respectively, which ultimately leads to 62% rarely or never worrying. Younger women were more likely to at least occasionally worry about it (an average of 38%) compared to women over age 50 (26%). Many women do not worry at least occasionally about it, but the ones who do probably only worry just occasionally. The vast majority of Americans don't worry even occasionally about being murdered, and ones who do usually worry only occasionally. They rarely worry often about it. In fact, 80% of women rarely or never worry about being murdered, and if they do, it's probably occasional rather than often.
Men fear being victims of crime just as much, if not more than women. Women just admit it more.
Many self-report surveys will show that women fear being victims of crime or walking out at night more than men, but this is only self-report. Experimental studies found that actually, men are just as likely, if not more likely than women to fear being victims of crime. Women are just more likely to admit it because men are taught to be brave. Men often downplay their fear of crime, and women, in fact, might exaggerate how afraid they are of crime due to social desirability biases pertaining to gender norms. One study found that among university students, men were less likely to fear crime than women regardless of social desirability but among the community sample over people past age 21, men feared crime more than women when controlling for social desirability. This is because adolescent guys often believe in the personal fable mindset, where they believe they're invulnerable to risks in their environment, which men might still believe in during their late teens/early 20s, but outgrow after age 21 when they're more realistic, especially given that realistically speaking, men are more likely than women to be crime victims. Men admittedly didn't fear being sexually assaulted regardless of social desirability responding, but it's only because everyone thinks only women are sexually assaulted, even though, believe it or not, women rape men just as much as men rape women.
Yeah, maybe men take less precautions, which could make them fear being crime victims more because they could feel more exposed to it, but if men do take less precautions, then it's probably simply because people teach men to be a man and face his fears. If men don't fear female criminals in particular, it's probably because they're taught that women are never violent or that all rape or domestic violence is man-against-woman.
Most male criminals usually harm men.
A lot of statistics have shown that men are more likely to be victims of crime, and most strangestreet crime victims are men. In fact, the vast majority of female crime victims, including rape victims, are victimized by someone they know, and aside from most murder victims being men, male murder victims are killed by a stranger far more than female murder victims. Additionally, women actually do commit crime more than people think, and represent a large minority of criminals, but the reason why the vast majority of criminals are found to be men is because men get caught more, and police arrest male criminals more and the criminal justice system treats them more harshly. Moreover, most male criminals commit crimes against men, and most female criminals victimize women. Interpersonal crimes, such as sexual assault, domestic abuse and child abuse, are exceptions to this rule. Furthermore, many men who commit violence against women also have committed violence against men. For example, wife killers were found to be generally criminals, male intimate partner violence offenders often have engaged in violence against other men, especially perpetrators of severe intimate partner violence, and even sexually violent men such as rapists were found to be generally aggressive people.
And the reason why men are victims of crime more isn't because women avoid walking out at night, and in fact, there's not enough evidence that women walk out less than men and many women often do.
Female criminals are more common than people think, and they are the ones who harm women more.
As mentioned earlier, a large minority of criminals are women, but because police refuse to arrest reported female criminals and because the criminal justice system goes easier on women, that's why we hear more about male criminals. Additionally, it could be people won't admit in surveys their perpetrator was a woman, let alone report a female criminal to police. Self-report perpetration surveys show how common female criminals are. Women raping men was found to be as common as men raping women. A considerable percentage of child molesters are actually women, and intimate partner violence was found to be a gender symmetrical crime, and female domestic abusers were not usually responding in self-defense. Women killing husbands was found to be more common than statistics show, with female killers being more able to get away with it due to use of sneakier methods and the fact that cops don't suspect women, and contrary to popular belief, most husband killers weren't responding to abuse. This linked post of mine elaborates further on it with citations.
As mentioned earlier, most of these women, with the exception of interpersonal violence crimes, commit crimes against women whereas male criminals usually harm men (and even most men who harm women have also committed crimes against men). In fact, women were found to be bullied and harassed by other women than by men.
Many male criminals, especially street criminals, refuse to harm women.
Here's a big reason why men are more likely to be victims of crime or harmed in the streets. Typically, many violent men spare women, especially when it comes to crimes like street robbery. Additionally, many male street criminals refuse to attack women. In fact, many even said in street crime culture, there's a huge rule against it, particularly for male criminals. Even when robbing a couple, they often rob the man but spare the woman, but will attack everyone if they attack several men. They believe it's manly to attack other men and steal their resources because it reflects hunter-gatherer behavior. A male street criminal loses his reputation among his fellow criminals if he attacks a woman. Also, many male robbers believe women won't have drugs or money on them. In prison, although in many prisons especially nowadays, inmates might let it slide if you're only in there for an assault charge against your significant other (especially if it's a misdemeanor), inmates will be mad if you're in there for attacking a female stranger or a woman in the streets.
A minuscule percentage of men comprise the majority of violent crime, and the low minority of men who are violent aren't ordinary men.
In a population-based study of over 2 million Swedish men, they found that 3.9% had at least one violent crime conviction (Nonetheless, most violent criminals don't get arrested). However, 1% of these 2 million men were persistently violent criminals who comprised 63% of violent crimes, including 59.5% of aggravated violent crimes. They comprised 26% of offenders. They were admittedly over 90% men, but not normal men. They were usually young men often in their teens/early 20s, often had a major mental disorder and sometimes substance use disorders, and psychiatric inpatient disorders.
Another study found that the most persistently violent or sociopathic men were far more likely to have engaged in partner abuse in the past year (24%), and were far more likely to be the father of multiple children, often by impregnating many women. Compared with offenders who only were criminals as adolescents (AL=adolescent limited), these persistent criminals comprised 43% of violent crime convictions (and AL offenders comprised another 43% of violent crimes), 40% of drug convictions (and AL offenders comprised 48% of drug convictions), 28% of property crimes (AL offenders comprised 50% of property crimes), and 37% of court order convictions (with AL offenders comprising 49% of court order convictions). Nonetheless, they were the top 10% most sociopathic men. This top 10% most violent men also comprised 62% of violent crime convictions against women. These men also were disproportionately unemployed, impregnated many women, and were more likely to have antisocial personality disorder or to have abused cannabis.
Men who commit violence against women in particular aren't ordinary men.
When looking at rapists, they found that although it's not unusual for them to have more than one victim, they usually don't even have 3 victims, and usually not more than 3 or even 5. As a guy who has read a lot about rapists, I can tell you they aren't ordinary men. They were found to be highly promiscuous men who have far more consensual sex partners than most men, more dating partners, and often date and lose their virginity earlier than most men start. They tend to be generally aggressive people, are often narcissistic or insecure, have more psychopathic or antisocial traits (remember being antisocial doesn't mean asocial, contrary to popular belief), believe that any woman who even talks to them is interested in them, often pursue women very frequently for dates, believe in rigid macho stereotypes about what real men are supposed to act like, often try very hard to be as macho as possible, are hypersensitive to rejection, and, despite being far more experienced than most men, are dissatisfied with their level of dating success or perceive themselves as unsuccessful with women, often due to their unrealistically high expectations about how many partners they should have or how infrequently they should get rejected in dating. They often come from hypermasculine peer groups that put peer pressure on them to have sex. When even looking at hostilely sexist men, they found these men, contrary to the Internet's virgin incel stereotype, weren't a bunch of virgin guys, but were often hypermasculine, promiscuous men who often were in fraternities or played aggressive sports, preferred casual sex over romantic relationships, rejected emotional intimacy, and were more likely to have had sex with hookers or to have watched pornography.
Even when looking at male domestic abusers, they weren't even ordinary men. Many wife killers often had criminal records and were generally criminals, and even many male domestic abusers have criminal records, including many with violent crime convictions from the past. Many male domestic abusers and even female domestic abusers often had engaged in physically abusive delinquency, and studies even found a link between school bullying perpetration and intimate partner violence offending. In fact, contrary to what the media shows, most intimate partner violence is not a man beating his girlfriend viciously each day. It's usually two young adults in an unmarried relationship mutually hitting each other with mild to usually no injuries and in many cases, the relationship is usually a good relationship with an occasional reciprocal slap. It's not usually particularly violent or one-sided. When looking at three types of male batterers, they looked at ones who were violent towards people in general (generally violent offenders), ones who were only violent towards their wife (family only offenders), and psychopathologic offenders. Typically, the generally violent offenders engaged in severe domestic violence. These guys had low self esteem, had criminal records, a history of drunk driving and crime, were violent towards other men and even non-intimate women, had sexist attitudes towards women, suffered childhood abuse, lacked emotional intimacy, and had many other issues. Family only offenders typically were the most common type of domestic abuser, and they typically had liberal attitudes towards women, were the most remorseful, had usually good relationships with their wife, and were not particularly violent in the relationship. They usually were ordinary men who ended up being violent temporarily and were easy to rehabilitate, and they rarely inflicted injuries and often were usually well-behaved men. There's also psychopathologic offenders who often had schizotypal or borderline personality disorders or other mental health issues. The severe domestic abusers the media overemphasizes aren't ordinary men. In fact, while some men have engaged in intimate partner violence, domestic abuse is usually mutually violent, and in non-reciprocal cases, women are the aggressors up to 70% of the time. It's simple: not many men have engaged in serious domestic abuse. Most domestic abuse is situational, and not long-term, and it usually involved two people who usually get along mutually hitting each other with mild to no injuries.
Women are not harmed, raped or abused as much as feminists say.
This post of mine shows how many statistics on how many women are raped, molested, abused, victimized, etc. are exaggerated, and how a low percentage of women are raped or victims of serious domestic violence, and the vast majority live safe lives.
This is no different from portraying black men as potential criminals.
Another thing that should be addressed: while men are 1.55x more likely to commit property crime, blacks are 1.75x more likely to commit property crime, and Native Americans are 1.09x more likely to commit property crime. Also, while men are 3.91x more likely to commit violent crime, blacks are 3.27x more likely to commit violent crime and Natives are 4.2x more likely to commit violent crime. Being black increased the likelihood of committing property crime more than being male and being Native American increased the likelihood of committing violent crime more than being male. Just remember that blacks are 13% of the population and Natives are 2% of the population, whereas men are half the population, so that's we don't see the vast majority of criminals being black or Native American, but they are overrepresented. In fact, according to Bureau of Justice Statistics, blacks are more likely to commit crime. Natives were listed under "other", including multiracial people and Pacific IslandeNative Hawaiians, but "other" people were also more likely to commit crime but not the extent of black people, possibly due to inclusion of multiracial people and Pacific IslandeNative Hawaiians in the statistic. So why should we scapegoat men for crime when most men don't particularly commit crime when it's seen as racist to portray blacks as potential criminals for the same reason when most blacks don't particularly commit crime?
Remember this: black people might be affected more by police brutality, but almost all police homicide victims are men, and men are far more likely than women to be affected by police brutality, and white men are affected by it far more than black women.
Conclusion
The vast majority of women are not going to be raped or victims of serious domestic violence or suffer traumatic child abuse. It's not just that not all men are a threat to women, but a very minuscule percent of men comprise the majority of violence against men and women, and men who do harm men or women are very different from the general population of men, and thus are not particularly hard to distinguish from ordinary men. This tendency for feminists to say we need to be suspicious towards all men because there's enough men who are a threat and who equate it with how not all ticks have lyme disease are making invalid arguments. There's not enough evidence that only a low percent of ticks have the disease, and you can't distinguish ticks from another, and some criminals are women, and female criminals are the ones who target women, whereas male criminals usually harm men, not women.
It's time to realize that the vast majority of men can be trusted by women, and it isn't completely hard to distinguish them from violent men, and the vast majority of women aren't going to be raped or abused. Treating men as potential criminals is no different from treating people of a certain race as potential criminals.

2023.05.28 21:52 IcarusAvery Lore Theory: TP/BotW Zoras aren't Ocean Zoras

So, as most folks know, there are two types of Zora - the River Zoras, which are the classic aquatic enemies of the 2D Zeldas, and the Ocean Zoras, the peaceful race of waterdwellers we've come to know and ship Link with since Ocarina of Time and have continued to know and ship Link even into the Breath of the Wild says (damn you, Lady Yona, damn you).
I wanna propose, for a second, that the Zoras we see in most of the 3D Zelda games, however, aren't Ocean Zoras and that's actually why they eventually evolve into the Rito come Wind Waker, and that there's actually a third subrace of Zora we've entirely neglected despite being arguably more common.
So, we're introduced to the concept of the Ocean Zoras and River Zoras being different groups in Oracle of Ages, the only game (that I'm aware of) where the two Zoras coexist. In that game, it's abundantly clear what the difference is - Ocean Zoras live in the Zora Sea, while River Zoras live in rivers. Anyone with two braincells to rub together can see why one's called an Ocean Zora and the other's a River Zora.
However, Ocean Zoras actually living in the ocean is something of a rarity. The only other example of it I can think of is in Majora's Mask - the Zoras in that game live off the coast of Termina in Zora's Hall, which is clearly a saltwater environment. In every other game with Ocean Zoras, though, it's a lot less clear.
The consistent line here is that these Zoras all live in freshwater bodies. Now, some fish can survive in both saltwater and freshwater. These are referred to as euryhaline fish, as opposed to stenohaline fish, which can only survive in a very narrow range of salinities - freshwater fish can't live in salt water, and saltwater fish can't live in fresh water. It's possible that Ocean Zoras are actually a type of euryhaline fish, able to thrive in both salt water and fresh water, and they're called Ocean Zoras perhaps because their counterparts, the River Zoras, are stenohaline and cannot survive in salt water.
However, I'd like to propose that what we're actually looking at are not Ocean Zoras - at least, not most of them. The ones in Ocarina of Time may be euryhaline Ocean Zoras, owing to their striking similarity to the Zoras who live in the Great Bay and Zora Sea, but the reason Zoras look different in Breath of the Wild and Twilight Princess is because they're actually descendants of the two Zora subspecies who intermarried and interbred over the years to produce a new race of Zoras who I am tenatively calling "Lake Zoras." We know, at the very least, that what kind of Zora Ruto and her people are can interbreed with River Zoras - Oren from A Link Between Worlds is highly likely to be a descendant of Ruto, and she's definitely a River Zora.
These Lake Zoras, which we see most clearly in Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild, share some notable traits with both types of Zoras. They take their more humanoid appearance, graceful movement, and large head-tail-thingies from Ocean Zoras, but their coloration is much more in line with River Zoras - instead of the muted whiteish-blue of Ocean Zoras, Lake Zoras take the blues and greens of River Zoras while also adding in brown, grey, bright red, and purple. They also possess the larger fins on the sides of their head from River Zoras (though they're often droopy, like an Ocean Zora), their feet are both webbed like an Ocean Zora while clawed like a River Zora, and - I think most importantly - they're absolutely stenohaline freshwater fish.
This brings me to part two of the theory - why Zoras had to turn into Rito during the Great Flood. I think it's fairly simple - it's not that the Great Sea is "ethereal" or "illusory" or anything like that, and thus the waters are toxic to Zoras, it's that the Great Sea (being a sea) is a saltwater body, and a stenohaline freshwater fish could never survive in it. This also explains the survival of Laruto up until shortly before the events of Wind Waker - Laruto is actually an Ocean Zora, meaning he could survive in the Great Sea and thus didn't need to be transformed, but his descendants (Medli's ancestors) were Lake or River Zoras, so they needed to be changed to survive the post-Flood world.
TL;DR - Zoras in Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild aren't Ocean Zoras, they're a another race of freshwater Zora like River Zoras, and the reason they had to transform into the Rito in Wind Waker is because freshwater fish + saltwater body = this kills the fish.

WE ARE BULLETPROOF: With the lack of new releases, it may seem that the fandom may have had a time to breath-
j-hope makes a triumphant return with a smile that will surely brighten your day, as well as giving thanks to those who have supported him as he completed the first part of his military service. RM & JK left comments congratulating him on the weverse post. RM went as far as to leave a new comment on the original farewell IG post as well.
In the meantime, the members have been keeping us busy with SNS updates this week. RM continues his daily IG stories. V was having a whale of a time in Cannes, France, being there to attend a Céline event. Jimin headed to WB London to check out the Harry Potter movie exhibition. JK went live on Weverse (with his glasses) for a chill night hangout, but otherwise our maknae & eldest hyung have stayed quiet online.

IDOL: SUGA, now back on the Asia continent, started & completed the Jakarta, Indonesia leg of his tour despite the awful heat & having a cough. The tour will be on another well deserved 4 day break before he performs in Yokohama, Japan on June 2.

BTS IN THE SUB: A deceptively quiet week...

2023.05.28 18:12 meowhahaha Advice - repeat countdown timer, wearable tech

Please help me find a specific type of ADHD assistive device.
TL; DR at bottom
I have a new doctor who sees a need to reevaluate (screw with)- my ADHD med dosages.
Looking for wearable tech with a repeat or loop countdown timer (anything up to 99 minutes, and customizable); it must start a new countdown on its own without my needing to reset it (I won’t!)
The timer should have have options for vibration and/or audible alarm.
Needs to be $50 or less, or made of unbreakable platinum, because it’s going to get banged around a lot. I’m a clutz.
Or as my mama says, “It’s a good thing I didn’t name you Grace!”
It would be awesome to have a regular time/day of the week/day of the month feature, but not essential.
Having this wearable will (hopefully) force me to evaluate what activity I’m engaged in VS what I should be doing at that time.
Then I just have to hope I have enough self-control to regroup & return to the task I need to focus on. I don’t want a newer Apple Watch or Fitbit. I’ll lose it or forget to charge it or leave it on at the lake or in the shower.
I’ve looked at potty-training timers, but many of them have a max of 8, 12 or 15 alarms. And are obviously for preschoolers. No countdown timers.
I’ve looked at stuff for counting laps in the pool or timing gymnastic routines. GymBoss looks ok, but is much bigger than I want. I’d prefer not to have a pager on my wrist.
There are exercise interval timers, but they only go up to 2 minutes.
Most of them have an issue ruling them out: they either look very childish (unicorns & dinosaurs), are too big to be a comfortable wearable (GymBoss), need a phone to program it, have specialty chargers, require intervention to restart or are hecka expensive.
I’d take a free Apple Watch, but $$$
Looking to my fellow ADHD folks for help <3
TL; DR - I need a wearable tech device that: is $50 or less;
-has a customizable timer interval (1 to 99 minutes);
-automatically repeats/loops countdown timer without wearer having to press a button;
-ends with vibration and audible alert, with options to turn off sound;
-doesn’t look like it’s for potty training or elementary school children
-is simple to program without a phone or computer;
-has a common interface port on the device and common type end charging cable or is wireless: micro, mini or USB-A, -C.
-Isn’t a piece of crap that will break in 3 months
Any recommendations, ‘what to avoid’ or other advice is welcome.

2023.05.28 17:33 trt7474 Moving here soon, best area to look in?

Moving here soon, best area to look in?
I’m looking for an apartment in Lakewood. I don’t have a car so I’m looking for a convenient location with plenty of places in walking distance. Which area here should I be focusing on where there is the most stuff “going on”? I’m 28 years old, also interested in like nightlife and bars and stuff so if there is a specific location that is the most fun I’d be interested to hear so I can focus on looking there for an apartment. Basically I found one at my price point in each area so I don’t know where to go exactly.

2023.05.28 17:23 darkerenergy Trip Report: 18 days + Golden Week (25/04 - 13/05)

Tokyo - Yokohama - Nagoya - Kyoto - Osaka - Tokyo

Hi all, going to go through our trip covering golden week and time around it (: It was myself (F21) and my partner (M24) and the reasoning behind the timing was mainly due to bank holidays in the UK being unfortunately placed perfectly in line with golden week this year! Despite this, I feel we actually got pretty lucky with it all. I'll put an emoji to note which days were for golden week but for the tl;dr we weren't affected that much.
Other important contexts, both interested in Japan for a few different reasons. Anime isn't a small one but I'm also a huge fan of the Yakuza games, he's into the JDM car scene, and we just enjoy travelling in general. We didn't do many things like Universal, Disneysea etc. but hopefully there's some things in here that people will enjoy hearing about! I'll go through some tips/recommendations for the casual readers first before going into the trip in depth - please let me know if there's anything else you want to know about!

Tips + Recommendations

Yamato Takkyubin Luggage Forwarding If like us you are going to be staying in quite a few different places, this service is so so so good I cannot overstate it. We had two big suitcases and one smaller one, we sent just the big ones for two of the trips and then for the final trip from Osaka to Tokyo we sent all 3 and just used our backpacks to bring essentials for the night.Pretty much all hotels will allow you to use the service, some may request you pay them with cash for the actual service but for all but one of ours we could use card. We sent Yokohama -> Kyoto, then Kyoto -> Osaka, then finally Osaka -> Tokyo. There are options for same day delivery I believe however we did both the next day and for a few days later. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments and I'll answer if I can!
Trip Planning I've been fortunate to be able to travel a lot so wasn't nervous about the actual travel, however Japan is such a far away country that I didn't want to go and get there then not know what to do and waste my time. In the past holidays with family were more about relaxing on a beach, or with my partner our city breaks are short as they are other European countries and so easier to return to if we wanted. I wanted to take a different approach to this trip so I made a big Google Sheet and Google Map with all the places I wanted to visit/see. It was never meant to be a strict itinerary as some people I showed seemed to assume 😅 But it really helped me to visually see where things I wanted to go to were, and then make a rough plan in case I did get stuck at some point.Anyway it was a really good idea in hindsight and I'm very glad we did it for this trip as our first time going! Here's a picture of the map looks like, we didn't necessarily do everything but we did most things - https://i.imgur.com/2xLyy7Y.png. I used mymaps.google.com, to be honest there's definitely betteeasier to use tools out there but I got this to work for me so I stuck with it.
Walking People aren't kidding about the amount of walking, although I think our top amount was still under 30k so don't worry too much. That said, if you don't walk a lot anyway then your feet are going to hurt. My partner was fine, I was awful. I thought my shoes would be fine and apparently they weren't so if you can pack walking boots please do. The other thing is I think the way you walk affects it too, my partner and I both had multiple pairs of shoes with us but where his converse boots were fine, the soles of my feet were awful in the same types of shoes 😭
Driving I am not a driver but my partner is. He has a full manual UK driving license and insurance, and so for Japan all he needed was to get the International Driver's Permit a little before we went. We rented a car for three different occasions, two times from the same place then the final was for a JDM rental. All was fine, the JDM place was confused for a moment as my partner has a Polish passport + UK license but we translated Poland for him and after that there were no issues! You'll need to check what you need depending on where you're from, it's easier for us due to the same driving side although when we rented for Daikoku and the Nagoya drive they did give us an automatic so just be aware of that if you want to request/drive manual. The rental places we used were Orix rent-a-car for the Daikoku and Yokohama -> Nagoya trip and we had a Mazda 2. For the JDM rental we used Omoshiro.

Trip Report

Tokyo

25/04 - Airport, Shinjuku hotel, Shinjuku We followed a similar first day that I'm sure many of these reports will begin with - arrived at the airport, we had filled out the VJW forms and had both QR codes ready to go. Immigration had about an hour wait so longer than normal but we were also near the back of our plane and there was at least another full plane in front of us. Actually going through immigration was a complete breeze. Once through and picked up our luggage, we got a Welcome Suica, then headed to Shinjuku. We reached our hotel about 4 hours early for check-in, wasn't sure what to do for that time but they were happy to take our bags until we could go to the room (something that is consistent with all the hotels we went to thankfully). Jetlag was pretty bad, I was flagging by afternoon but we pushed through it and took the few hours to just walk around and see the sights. We spent some time in Hakone-yama before heading back to the hotel and getting cleaned up/accidentally falling asleep too early.
26/04 - Akihabara, Golden Gai Of course woke too early by not being as proactive as we should've with warding off jetlag but used that to leave early for Akihabara. After getting some breakfast we saw the Yodobashi Camera and went in there for about an hour just looking at all the floors 😅 It was raining a ton but it surprised us with how warm it still was and quickly realised why people prefer umbrella with no raincoat!! Spent pretty much the whole day in Akihabara, went round a ton of shops and also went into our first of many many arcades we'd go to. We went back to the hotel to return the items we'd bought then walked to Golden Gai as our hotel was about a 15-20 minute walk ^^ Had some delicious ramen, unfortunately didn't drink as my partner was finishing antibiotics for the first few days but it was still great to be there. Slept a lot later which was good.
27/04 - Kabukicho, Shinjuku National Garden This was more a day for me to fufill my Yakuza game sightseeing. Being so close to Kabukicho I was so excited to visit a city and be able to make my way round without a map loool. It was just the end of the blue festival so the iconic arch was still blue although I did get to see it red at the end of the trip so I wasn't too bothered about that. We went around Kabukicho, the square, again spent tons of time in the arcades and discovered how much we enjoyed the MaiMaiDX machines. Ended up getting one of the passports that save your progress and give you an extra play so if you like arcades then I recommend them!! After this and some lunch, we were going to do a walk to the national garden then realised I went the wrong way so we took the train. As a side note here, the Suica and train system is so useful. Very similar to using a card for the underground except it's actually clean. Walked around the national garden, it was very sunny and warm. Didn't know it had it before going but there's a starbucks in the middle of the garden and we managed to join the queue about 10 minutes before they stopped taking new orders. Had a nice time watching the sun set in that garden before heading back to the hotel.
28/04 - Teamlabs Planets Wasn't something I was going to initially go to however I checked out tickets the day previously and saw some for this day and decided we could do it as we had a ton of free time. I had chosen 2:30pm for an entrance time however it was such a nice day so we left early and spent time just walking around the docks. It was so so sunny, the area didn't have loads going on however it was still very pretty. We spent time in the parks and walking alongside the water. Teamlabs was pretty cool, I did enjoy the water based sections although dodging both influencer and family photos might detract from your experience. This was also where I realised I'd already become the stereotype tourist and was sunburnt :') I guess I had to learn my lesson physically and I did thankfully stop any further burning after this with diligent sun cream appliance afterwards pretty much every day. After this we went back to Shinjuku and after food we packed up ready to go to Yokohama.

Yokohama

29/04 - Bashamichi, Daikoku, Cosmo Clock ✨Showa Day Left our hotel at 11 and hadn't yet discovered the wonders of luggage forwarding so we brought all our bags with us on the train to Yokohama! Not too bad though, we got to our hotel a little early but they took our bags as we went and had lunch before the room was ready. Went around Bashamichi (another game location lol) before taking the train to central Yokohama. We had pre-booked the rental cars all before we left to ensure availability but there weren't any problems. This was also my partner's birthday which is something the rental staff realised whilst we were sorting out all the documents 😆. For Daikoku, we didn't need to pass through any ETC gates from Yokohama but it was the first time on the Japanese roads. It was a little nerve-wracking at first as there's very slightly different rules to UK roads but in general driving is fine. We reached Daikoku PA around 20 past 6pm, and it was about 2 hours until police moved everyone along. My partner was in dreamland with the cars that we saw, if you're into the JDM scene at all or just a petrolhead then you'll love it but it is a bit of luck with what you'll see. After we left Daikoku, we went back to our hotel. We'd checked in with them previously that we could keep the car with them as the hotel we had chosen had parking available for an additional cost. We left the car at the hotel then went out for drinks and to see the cosmo clock. Didn't ride it but it was very cool seeing it all lit up over Yokohama. We bar hopped a bit, then went back.
30/04 - Recovery... Not much to say about this day, my partner was fairly hungover so we returned the car to the rental place and then spent the day just chilling at our ryokan hotel and around Yokohama. No drinks this time round as we had a very long trip the next day!!

Nagoya (Road Trip from Yokohama)

01/05 - Expressways, Onshi-Hakone Park, Expressways, Shinshiro, Expressways, Nagoya I'll condense this one a bit otherwise I'll type forever but this was a really fun time. The driving totaled almost 6 hours by the end so it's not for the faint hearted haha. The point was that we'd stop a few times along the way though which is what we did end up doing. We sent our luggage with the forwarding service (to the hotel after Nagoya as we were just staying the one night), then had an early start as we went to the car rental for 8. We chose the same place we rented from for Daikoku and had the same sales rep sorting out any documents so it was a bit quicker although this time we did get a quick explaination on the toll gates. Anyone going on the expressways will need to know how to use them, we were a bit confused the first time but once you've done it a couple times it'll be smooth sailing (and it's such a good system for people with the automatic cards too). We left Yokohama and set our location for Nagoya. We went for about 2 hours before stopping in Odawara for a quick snack and pee break. Pretty overcast day but despite this we still decided to do a stop in a park on the way and went to Onshi-Hakone Park. It was very cool/bit scary going up the winding mountain passes but wow the views are incredible. We spent again probably a couple hours at the park, had some lunch, no view of Fuji but we could see a lot of the other mountains around which are breathtaking in their own rights (: It's right on Lake Ashi so we did get to see the pirate cruise going round. After this break we did another couple hours or so driving before stopping slightly outside of Shinshiro. Something I will say about the expressways is that it is insane how fast people go 😂 We're not about to try anything so it was sticking to the 120 on the signs for us but people just whizz by. Anyway, we stopped at a familymart in this village for a quick break and I know I've said it already but the views are so beautiful. It's green in the UK but it's something else, I kept wondering if it's just viewing through rose tinted glasses/greener on the other side but I don't think that's true at least about those countryside views. It was also one of the reasons we wanted to do the road trip instead of train at least this time round, we could stop in these places and take it in. After our stop there, it was back onto the expressway until we reached Nagoya. It was roughly 6pm when we reached Nagoya, we had intially booked the car for the whole day with return the next morning but they allow early return with Orix so we did that instead before finding our hotel and having some dinner. Not too much time in Nagoya but it was the first time seeing the bullet train which was cool. Nagoya itself has some nice sights, we were thinking about going to Liberty Walk the next day but instead we just decided we'd head to Kyoto once we left the hotel.

Kyoto

02/05 - Shinkansen, Kyoto, Nishiki Market It was a really lovely day and we were taking the shinkansen for the first time. The shinkansen from Nagoya is only 34 minutes but we did end up buying reserved seats as the station was pretty packed. This is probably the main thing we noticed with Golden week, everything else was busy but not insanely so. Nagoya station was a lot busier but otherwise fine. We didn't have JR passes as when I used the online calculator it didn't come out to be worth it for our particular travel so it was full fare for us. The shinkansen itself was good, we would be using it again for Osaka back to Tokyo but due to Nagoya being closer to Kyoto I didn't reeeally think I'd need to book early. It's probably a good idea still lol but it worked out fine for us to book same day despite how busy Nagoya was. Once in Kyoto we took our time walking down to our next hotel. This was another ryokan style so that was nice, we also passed a garden which we noted to go to the next day (Shosei-en Garden). Our luggage had arrived and was waiting for us at the hotel already so we got refreshed then went out for the evening. We went up to Nishiki market then walked back towards our hotel again. Had a sushi train small dinner as we hadn't had any sushi yet and I've also only had a train once before. It might not be the best Kyoto had to offer but wow was it still better than anything I'd had in the UK!! We then spent hours once again in an arcade, if you like games the MaiMaiDX machines really are addictive :')
03/05 - Shosei-en Garden, Higashi Hongan-ji, Tō-ji Temple, Nijō Castle✨Constitution Memorial Day We woke up early, had breakfast at the ryokan, then went straight for the garden. It was a beautiful day once again so plenty of suncream applied. The Shosei-en Garden isn't the biggest but it's so beautiful, they have this pond that looks so still but my partner spotted a turtle and then you start to see more and more. They have some historical buildings around the place, we spent about an hour there before going to the next place. We walked down the road to the next place, this was Higashi Honhan-ji temple. Both locations weren't really that busy to be honest. Seeing this temple was nice but personally I did prefer the gardens. We next went Tō-ji temple. This is one of those locations that are on the 'must-do in Kyoto' but I did like it a lot. The 5 story pagoda was a cool sight. It wasn't so busy although we were going around lunch time so hungry crowds were likely taking a small break (: We spent an unreasonable amount of time just looking at the koi fish in the moat not even in the temple area 🎏 Finally we went to Nijō Castle. This was quite busy although we were one of the latter groups going around as it was nearing the end of the day. Another of the listed must do's but again I would say it's a cool place to see. If you do go, the tour around the main house is interesting and if you decide to climb the walls there's some nice sights of the area around. We finished up this day heading back to the market area and had dinner including a matcha beer. I'm not really a massive matcha person but I was up for trying all the different things, the beer sort of just tasted of normal beer but it looked exactly like a matcha-green coloured guinness.
04/05 - Arishiyama ✨Greenery Day This wasn't really a packed day as we were heading to an airbnb for a couple of nights. We used the luggage forwarding from the ryokan where they were concerned that we wouldn't get our luggage as soon as we wanted due to Golden week. I then let them know we were looking to get it sent for the 6th and they completely relaxed and said that would be perfectly fine 👌 For context if you've not been to Kyoto, the train system is alright but pales compared to Tokyo. Getting to our airbnb wouldn't be too long, about an hour, but as we didn't really have anything planned and only had our small suitcase with us we decided to walk to the next airbnb instead and waste time along the way. This way when we arrived it wouldn't be before check in time and it would keep us out and about. The walk was about 3 hours total although we lengthed it by stopping a few times. There were some celebrations happening due to Greenery day and Children's day being the next day. We stopped to listen to some music, stopped to have a starbucks, then finally we reached out airbnb in Arishiyama. The place was really nice, and it was fun to have a whole place for a few nights instead of a hotel. If you're wanting to, looking at airbnb's is a completely valid option when staying in Japan - you just might get warned before you arrive not to talk or laugh too loudly or the neighbours might complain/call the police 😅
05/05 - Fushimi Inari Shrine ✨Children's Day Initially were going to do both the bamboo/monkey forest and Fushimi Inari but ended up leaving a little later than planned so just committed to only Fushimi Inari. I was expecting fairly large crowds considering the day and the station was..... not great. That said, the station was very small and so although it was crowded we were also out of there fairly quick. This review of Fushimi Inari is going to follow almost everyone's - it was busy at the bottom and as you go up you'll get a lot less people. Even it being Children's day didn't stop us getting moments of just myself and my partner being alone so don't be deterred if the bottom is busy! Beautiful views, we did the full routes going to the top. It was a bit tricky at times but it's not a race, and you'll feel good doing the full thing. We reached the top, were able to partake in the prayers there, then had a great time going back down. There was a little area near the end with a bunch of cats; we turned a corner and saw one and a bunch of people crowding round to take a photo. Maybe only a few steps later you realise there's about 4 more just chilling around the place. It was a cool experience and definitely worth doing at least once if you're there.

Osaka

06/05 - Local train, Dotenbori, Den-Den Town We took a train from our airbnb to Osaka and went via the local train rather than the shinkansen. It was fine, we reached Dotenbori and our hotel was not far from the station. We got there a bit early again but our room was already available and our luggage had arrived too (: After getting refreshed we went out for the afternoon to Den-Den Town. This is Osaka's version of Akihabara, and we spent a lot of time with my partner looking in all the card shops. It was pretty rainy but not really a problem between the Lawson's umbrella and ducking into lots of shops ;) We spent time in an arcade for a while before heading out to Dotenbori market area and the bridges for the evening/night. Yet again another location in the Yakuza games so I had fun pointing out different places like the Mega Don Quijote or the crab restaurant. We had some food and ended up in a drinking place that used a QR code and website for ordering to the table which was dangerously easy to use haha. Had some really tasty sushi there too, I'll try and find the name if anyone is wondering! Took tons of photos there, the rain at night gave the city that classic look reflecting the neon lights everywhere.
07/05 - Kobe day trip We went to Kobe for the day, lots of rain but the main market area is all under cover so that was handy. My partner was looking for a new phone which he found, we also went to one of those places where they grill the food in front of you for dinner. It was great going in a scruffy elevator up to the restaurant and stepping out onto a really beautifully designed restaurant, and it wasn't very busy so we were able to go without reserving beforehand. Kobe itself is cool although we didn't explore too much outside the market areas due to just how hard it was raining, I think it was the heaviest on this day unfortunately.
08/05 - Nara day trip, Todai-ji We went to Nara and although the advice is to go early, we went for more mid-day time. It wasn't crowded at all so that was fortunate. We ended up walking past that famous mochi stall that you see on all the tiktoks of Nara. I wasn't expecting to see the making of the mochi and wasn't going to wait for it either however they started about 2 minutes after we found the stall so we did stay and watch and it was cool to see in person (: We tried the mochi, it's pretty good although for me it was a bit too dry from the powder. Was still tasty!!! Walked through towards the deer park and saw the pagodas around. When we reached the deer park of course we had to get some crackers and feed them. Oh my god they're so pushy!! It was actually so funny to interact with them, one tried to nibble me and we got headbutted a bit when we had the crackers but once you've given them all out then they'll leave you 😆. We sat on a bench for a bit and watched some other poor souls go through the same thing. Saw quite a lot of young fawns too which is cute. We kept walking up to Todai-ji, stopped for an ice cream, then went to the temple to see the huge Buddha statue. It was a good experience to see this temple, but at least for me it wasn't my favourite part of the trip. I know for many others though it's really great to see so don't knock it off your list if you're interested in it! I'm glad I went once but probably won't return. Spent some more time just chilling around Nara and looking at the temples and shrines around the place. We went back to Osaka for around 4pm. Spent the evening in Osaka again, no rain this time! Oh this was about the time I was developing a sore throat, a little bit nerve wracking but fully vaccinated + boosters and have had covid previously so was fairly certain it wasn't that. Even so, my partner was coughing a bit which is the start of the cold we both had for the rest of the trip 😔
09/05 - Osaka Aquarium, Dotenbori I didn't put the aquarium on my plan initially but we had another spare day in Osaka and I do like visiting aquariums + my partner likes penguins a lot and they had a lot there. It was a cool experience, a lot of families as to be expected but it wasn't packed so lots of opportunities to see the animals and fish :) The two whales were very cool, they're so massive. We also got to see their rockhopper penguin conservation area, you could see them sitting on their eggs. I recommend the aquarium to any families planning to be in Osaka, it's pretty easy to get to and the station gives clear directions on where to go to get to the aquarium and the nearby lego park. After the aquarium we went back to Dotenbori and looked around the various book-offs as my partner was looking for screen protectors. If you're interested in any Japanese media I can recommend them too, I found some games in there that were a lot cheaper than you find in the West in much better condition. Our coughs worsened by evening which wasn't great, we weren't doing much more in super crowded areas but it's obviously not good anyway. We were wearing masks everywhere beforehand but it made it more important. We did end up getting some Bron, if you're in Japan and have a cough then I do recommend it but just be aware that it contains codeine. We got some from a place that specifically had a pharmacy section, you bring the box to the cashier and they'll give you the actual bottle from behind the counter. Really really great stuff, much better than anything you can get without a prescription in the UK which was annoying as my cough was subsequently worse for about 5 days once I got back!! It's pretty much gone now though (lasted longer likely due to asthma but it was gone for my partner after a couple days of being back). Overall I really enjoyed Osaka, all the cities we went to were cool but for me Osaka was my favourite :)

Tokyo

10/05 - Shinkansen, Airbnb We left Osaka for Tokyo and took the Shinkansen back. We did splash out a bit and took the green car with seats on the Fuji side. I fell asleep for most of the trip but woke in time to see Fuji for the roughly 6-7 minutes it was viewable for. It was my only time to see Fuji due to the weather being almost clear that day aside from a single cloud going right across the mountain. It didn't block the peak though so I don't feel too robbed 😆. If/when we visit Japan again I would like to see it again closer but it was still a great sight. Once we reached Shinagawa station, we switched to the local train to head to our airbnb in Shinjuku once again (although closer to Shibuya this time whereas we were more North before). We were staying in a pretty close knit residential area but did a bit of a hello to the neighbours which was nice. We had done the luggage forwarding again but had set it to come the next day so we would be the people available for receiving it. Spent the time around the airbnb and also tried having an uber eats delivered (which worked great lol).
11/05 - Shibuya, Shinjuku We spent most of this day around Shibuya as we wanted a few souvenirs for family and also hadn't visited Shibuya properly. Went to the crossing, then spent time mainly shopping and going around one of the Donkis. Pretty rainy again but not a problem for a shopping day.
12/05 - RX-7 Day Trip (Lake Hinuma, Ibaraki Flower Park), Kabukicho We used Omoshiro Rent-a-car for the RX-7 (for those interested, here's the car - https://i.imgur.com/HRX4DYy.png ) and they were great. We had it pre-booked again before we arrived in Japan as it's a pretty sought after car to rent. Bit banged up but nothing major, and we had it booked for I think 8 hours? We did return it a little early as we didn't really have anything else to do and didn't want to be late with a return as the shop closed at the time we'd be returning it. A funny part of the terms you agree to is no Initial D style driving. For the trip itself, we didn't have anything major planned so I made a makeshift plan to just go a bit out of Tokyo and visit somewhere different. I found this lake on maps that'd be not too far, didn't realise until we were there that it's less a lake for sights and more for fishing 😅. No worries though, as the main reason was to get some driving in and enjoy having the car (which was achieved!). Got some snacks from a 7/11 then went off. We had a lot of time left so we drove to Ibaraki flower park, yet another quick find from scrolling around Google Maps. It was a very beautiful park, they have a rose market there as well as selling some fresh produce. It's a small charge to go in the park but it's worth it for the hour or more you might spend there and will go towards the park maintenance. Also being the middle of Spring of course it's going to be beautiful with all the new blooms (: We spent time there admiring the countryside and being sad about going back home the next day. We went back to the rental place afterwards, also during this drive was the time where we were finding it so funny how we were sticking to the speed limits in this beautiful car and being overtaken by massive trucks going so much faster. We did have a moment that was like from a movie though, we entered the expressway after the tolls and as we were pulling in an older Honda NSX was being driven next to us. The guy driving looked over and gave us a nod with a straight face before pulling ahead a little so we could be behind him. We ruined that movie mood by both being so excited by how cool the moment was but hey it's one of those things that won't be forgotten at least!! He zoomed off a few minutes later but we weren't risking anything to keep pace ahaha. We returned the car then went back to Shinjuku for our final evening in Japan. We went back to Kabukicho and I was able to see the arch in red :') Took photos of the karaoke place that's in the games, would've gone in but my throat was killing!! So we just stuck to being outside. We went back to the area around our airbnb, had our last dinner there then went and packed up ready to go home.
13/05 - Home :') Our flight was leaving a little before 9am so we were leaving the airbnb for 5ish. Early start but as we'd gotten packed up it wasn't too bad of a walk to the station. Grabbed our train, it was fairly early on one of the lines that goes direct to the station so we were able to get on with ease. The train was rammed by the time we reached the station. No problems getting through the airport, got to our gate and then flew home.

Final Notes

I had such a good time in Japan, I loved being there and hope to return within the next few years if life permits!! We definitely missed some of those 'must-do's' such as Osaka Castle, any of the theme parks, Arishiyama Monkey Park, actually doing Karaoke, and some of the food options due to my own anxieties walking into places lol. That said, I don't regret the things we did end up doing and it just means I'll have to fit some of those into my next trip 😉. Although my partner would like to visit more Northern areas like Hokkaido or Sendai so we'll see!
We didn't have probably as much packed into each day as could've been but for me this was perfect and a great time for my first time. If you managed to read all this then thank you very much, and please let me know if you have any questions about the trip!! I'll be happy to answer. Thanks for reading!

~ 1. Introduction ~
Here is a detailed description of my wishlist for a Mario Kart 9 or 10/X (if Tour is considered the 9th installment) I don't expect everyone to like all my ideas. This is just a wishlist. I obviously would be happy with any Mario Kart Nintendo decides to put out but in a perfect world, this is what I would want for it to be the best Mario Kart imo. I hope you enjoy.

*¹ - All and All Mirror options are only available in Grand Prix. After a Circuit has been selected, It'll play each Cup in order of that specific Circuit.
*² - All race and battle modes will feature either a Solo Dash or the new Double Dash option similar to Mario Kart Double Dash for extra replayability and character combinations.
*³ - Even if not many people liked Automatic drifting, it was there for a reason for you to choose. Some liked it. Some didn't. It should be the player's choice.
*⁴ - Camera can also be changed freely during the race from the pause menu.

*¹ - Added a Pro difficulty to make the CPU feel more of a challenge.
*² - Wanted to split the vehicle selections between Solo Dash and Double Dash drivers. Solo Dash drivers will now only select between Karts and Bikes and Double Dash drivers will only select between ATVs and new Buggy vehicles. *Buggys are essential similar to the designs of the Karts used in Mario Kart Double Dash. ATVs are now bigger in size to help fit the idea of 2 drivers on one vehicle.
*³ - The original Super Mario Kart had 5 courses per Cup so I brought that option back for custom races.
*⁴ - Wanted to make the option available for players. These courses will be excluded from Laps option and be set to default when selected: ⁿ⁶⁴ Wario Stadium, ⁿ⁶⁴ Rainbow Road, ᵍᶜⁿ Baby Park, ᵍᶜⁿ Wario Colosseum, ³ᵈˢ Wuhu Loop, ³ᵈˢ Maka Wuhu, ³ᵈˢ Rainbow Road, ʷⁱⁱ ᵘ Mount Wario, and ʷⁱⁱ ᵘ Big Blue.

~ 4. Items ~
× – Does not appear in Battle Mode.

Rupee - The equivalent of a coin, used for Hyrule Circuit and Zelda related courses. They replace coins in the item roulette and in the track.

Green Shell - Travels in a straight line and knocks over a kart it hits.
Red Shell - Red Shell Homes in on the closest kart in front of the player and knocks it over.

Mushroom - Provides the player's kart with a small speed boost.
Super Star - Provides the player invincibility from all terrain and items, and also giving a speed boost.
Boo - Unleashes Boo, who turns the player invisible for a brief time, making them impervious to enemy attacks, and steals an opponent's item. Cannot steal Special Items.
Coinˣ - Grants the player two extra coins and a micro boost.
Lightningˣ - Causes all opponents to drop their items, shrink, and drive slowly for a short time.
Fake Item - Looks just like an item box, but when you run into it, it knocks you over.
Bob-omb - Explodes after a short time when thrown or dropped, knocking over any kart in its blast radius.
Blooper - Sprays ink on all racers ahead and reduces their visibility. The racers hit also lose some of their traction while sprayed.
Bullet Billˣ - Transforms the player into a Bullet Bill, rocketing through the track with auto-pilot, and providing invincibility from all terrain and items.
Spiny Shellˣ - Targets the racer in first place, knocking over all other karts in its path.
Super Horn - Emits a radial shockwave hitting racers, as well as destroying all obstacles, including the Spiny Shell.
~ Special Items
Fireball (Red) - Three fireballs will revolve around your kart. They split up after they're thrown and go sliding ahead. These powerful pyrotechnics can take out multiple opponents at once. Drivers: Mario, Fire Mario
Fireball (Green) - Three fireballs will revolve around your kart. They split up after they're thrown and go sliding ahead. These powerful pyrotechnics can take out multiple opponents at once. Drivers: Luigi, Fire Luigi
Fire Flower - Allows the player to throw fireballs for a short time that cause other karts to spin out on impact. Drivers: Metal Mario, Fire Peach, Fire Bro
Ice Flower - Three balls of ice will revolve around your kart. Throw them all at once and they'll freeze any kart they hit, causing them to slide. Drivers: Ice Bro, Ice Mario, Penguin Luigi

Giant Banana - Not only does this big banana spin out karts that hit it, but after being struck it breaks into three regular-sized Bananas. Drivers: Donkey Kong

Drivers: Blinky, Pinky, Inky, Clyde * If there was absolutely no choice but to have the next Meta character, it'd be the Ghosts. Having one of the worst possible specials in the game should balance them out.
POW Block - The POW Block appears above the karts as a 2D image, warning players of its arrival, and causes any racer on the ground ahead of the user to spin out and drop their items. * Since wheelies are no longer a thing, it always spins out other racers unless they're in anti-gravity mode or during an in air trick Drivers: Mii, Don-chan

Hammer - Throws multiple Hammers in an arc aimed at karts in front of yours. Drivers: Hammer Bro
Super Bell - A bell rings above the driver, knocking away nearby karts and items. The bell rings three consecutive times. Drivers: Cat Peach, Cat Toad
Capsule - Three colorful capsules surround your kart. They'll bounce at opponents when thrown. Drivers: Dr. Mario

Magical Boomerang ⁽ⁿᵉʷ⁾ - * Works like a Boomerang Flower that tracks closes kart infront of player like a Red Shell Drivers: Link
Magnet ⁽ᵈˡᶜ⁾ - * a powerful magnet that pulls opponents towards the player Source Drivers: Krunch
Nayru's Love ⁽ᵈˡᶜ⁾ - * will surround the racer's kart with a protective shield. Any items that hit this shield will be reflected back at the racer who used them. 2023.05.28 17:13 chennyalan I love lights because they represent something remarkable to me.

I love lights because they represent something remarkable to me.
Since the dawn of man, we've been perpetually frustrated in our efforts to explore by many things– distance, predators, hostile environs unsuitable to travel– but worst of all in its regularity, duration, and unconquerability was Night. See it comes each day, without fail. It is all-encompassing and existentially terrifying in its unknowable depth. It quiets talk, slows movement, and steals time. And for years, centuries, millennia, eons, we have fought against it.
Fire was our first blow in this ancient battle. With fire, we beat back the shadows, and saw that it was good. We fashioned torches, s candles, then lanterns, and we were able to move sea the darkness without fear of unseen attackers, absent of the timeless danger of stubbed toes.
But it was not enough.
With the advent of electricity, illumination sprang forward as never before. The oldest among the lucky men who witnessed this transformation of society grumbled among themselves that such light wasn't natural; that we were fools to meddle with nature in this way, that artificial light would be an insidious presence in civilization, tempting us with convenience at the expense of our natural state.
But we did not listen.
Soon, towns and cities across the globe glowed at night brightly enough to be seen by ships across Great Lakes, brightly enough to be seen even from the ships newly buzzing across suddenly accessible skies. It was the Age of Light– and it is the age of light, and it always will be, from that point on.
But still we found ourselves frustrated.
Science and new technologies had given us cheap, warm light in our homes and on our streets– but for those who yearned for the exploration of days past, diving deep into the ocean or hiking into ageless woods, night still meant an end to a day's journey.
And so we persevered.
We created packages of electricity and called them batteries and we created lights small enough to carry. And we made them smaller and better each time until we came to today, a magical time for flashlights, when you can buy a light that will shine for a kilometer, or one that's 900 lumens but smaller than my big toe. They take batteries and use LEDs that represent billions of dollars of R&D, decades of engineering and refinement, and they're still working on it.
Many creation myths begin with a point of light. A beam erupts from the darkness, piercing it, driving it away utterly, and so the universe is born. I'm an atheist, but I get a small thrill when I light up a field or send a pillar of light into the sky. There's a reason we shot two beams of hope and resilience into the empty air where the twin towers stood.
Light is life.
TL;DR Flashlights represent the best of humanity, and I lose my keys a lot.
“You'll carry an umbrella when there's only a 30% chance of rain, but every night there is a 100% chance of darkness.”

2023.05.28 07:27 Effective_Maximum955 AITA for threatening to exclude a friend circle acquaintance from future events?

To preface, I’m a Christian. I’m not the most religious Christian anymore, but I do have friends who go to church, and I go to church retreats with them. In my friend circle, we also have a Muslim girl, Amina, and she’s pretty religious, wears hijab and everything. This wasn’t always the case though. Before she was pretty liberal, didn’t dress too conservatively, and whenever we’d have pool parties, she’d wear two pieces like the rest of us.
One of the girls in this circle, Lisa, doesn’t like Islam very much, but she just behaves passive aggressive with Amina at worst. So the other day, we went on a mini church retreat to a lake and Amina came with us because she had nothing to do.
All of us girls had bikinis on, but Amina couldn’t wear that anymore that due to her religious beliefs, so she swam in a baggy clothing. Lisa kept goading her saying things like “come on, you still have to cover up even when there are no guys around? I’m sure you’d look nice. Don’t you remember how good you looked when you used to wear two pieces?”
I could tell that Amina was getting uncomfortable, so I told Lisa to back off and said how she chooses to dress is her business. After we finished swimming, us girls got together for a photo but Lisa whispered to exclude Amina coz she was the only one not wearing a bikini and that she’d “stick out”
I noticed Amina was sitting on a bench nearby, so before the photo was taken, I called out to her and said “ hey do you want to come in?
And she said “sure!”. Lisa went “what are you doing?! Shes not wearing a bikini, shes gonna stick out” I told her to stop being immature. So we took the photo and that was that.
After that, us girls began to dry off before we could eat, but Lisa pulled me aside and told me what I was thinking bringing Amina in. I told her to shut up and reiterated again that how Amina chooses to dress is not anyone’s business. You don’t have to like it, but you have to respect her choice. I told her if she said anything like that again, because I know it makes Amina uncomfortable, I’d put it down real quick and I wouldn’t bother to invite her to future hang outs.
TL;DR my anti-Islam acquaintance tried to shame my Muslim friend for not wearing a bikini and I told her to shut up and that I wouldn’t include her for future stuff if she didnt back off.

2023.05.28 04:49 rosiealeo1 [Offer] a bunch of 1940s postcards [US to WW]

I recently came in to a box of used postcards as old as 1902. Super cool. I pulled out 18 written, stamped, and postmarked 1940s cards. I placed a removable label on the back so that I can re-write on them and mail them to you. You can leave my label on or you can pull it back to see the original stamp and original written message.
I am attaching a link with all the pictures. Comment if you'd like one and feel free to share what your favorites are, and I will accomodate you if I can! 2023.05.28 04:09 Wonderful_Cost923 Issue with engine…. Beeping??

Delete if not allowed. I just bought a 2006 Maxum 3100 SE. Twin MerCrusier 5.0 MPI. Starboard fired up no problem. Port I usually have to pump a few times.
Today shortly after getting under way I kept hearing two short beeps. At first I thought it was the C02 alarm, so we cut engines in the middle of the lake and turned the blower on. We tested the alarm and it’s a different beep. The beep I hear is like the battery (one) beep when we turn into accessory mode before firing engine. Well, when we went to fire port back up, it won’t stay on when put back in gear. We limped back for like an hour before I tried again and finally get to stay on in gear after revving high and slipping into gear before RPMs fell below 1000… then, it started beeping again.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Tl/dr: my port engine is beeping at me and don’t run right.

2023.05.28 04:01 CloudsOntheBrain Help: Groundcover + House Mod Floating Grass Problem

TL;DR : Conflict between mod-added house and Remiros' Groundcover is causing floating grass in the area. Not sure how to get rid of it.

EDIT: Solved!

There was another esp affecting the groundcover that I hadn't edited yet in the Construction Set. I didn't think it was involved because the textures didn't match the grass added by the mod... turns out the textures were being overridden by Remiros' mod, but not the amount of objects being placed.
So I've been using the One Day Morrowind Modernization mod list with OpenMW 0.47, which uses Remiros' Groundcover to handle grass (at least in the Balmora area where I'm seeing this issue). I decided I also wanted to use the plugin from Dave Humphrey's Furniture Store which adds a few purchasable empty homes around Morrowind.
As you can probably guess, the dh_homes.esp plugin changes a few exterior cells to add the new homes... which means there's now a house on the southeast side of Balmora where there used to be a grassy hill. Whatever is generating groundcover thinks there's still a hill there. So there's a bunch of floating grass around and clipping through the house. Very ugly.
I tried manually deleting all the grass in the area using the Construction Set, I also tried using Vert's Tutorial on making the conflicting esp compatible using tes3cmd. The grass is still there. I'm assuming these fixes aren't working because OpenMW doesn't actually have you activate the plugins?
I also tried this tutorial from OpenMW on generating custom groundcover, but it's not fixing the problem either. I'm wondering if I'm on the right track with this one, but I'm doing something wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
