I (26M) dated my girlfriend (20F) for 21 months - it was always long distance as she lives in our home country whereas for now I live abroad for work (I moved before meeting her). We've met every time I was travelling to the home country and she also came to visit me once. We got along pretty well and truly liked each other.
In early May, I travelled to the home country where I went out in the club in my home city and met a girl who I also went out with casually to have a drink the next day. A couple of days after this, I went to visit my girlfriend for a week. During the first 3 days, everything went well, it was good to reconnect, she always offered to make coffee and also cooked for me once which I truly appreciated. Nonetheles, one day while I was taking a shower, she looked into my phone and saw the text messages between me and the girl I dated before visiting her. She started crying and called her best friend to come over. She then asked me to move out from her place and hence I went to a friend of mine who lives in the same city.
The next day, I bought her flowers and had a conversation with her where I expressed my regrets of going out with that girl and the fact that it was purely an impulsive mistake that I will not repeat and that I do not want to compromise my relationship with her. She mentioned that she lost trust in me and that she needs time to recover and process her emotions. At this point, she also had a conversation with her mom who told her to end things with me. I tried to convince her that I will change my behaviour and never see other girls but she didn't seem to be interested to hear it. I then brought up that I didn't like that her best friend is getting involved facilitating our separation - which I knew because I had access to her messenger (she remained logged in on my phone since long time ago) and I could see some really bad things she mentioned about me. I then told her what I've read in her messages (I'm now aware it wasn't the gratest timing to reveal this...) and the next day she checked her login history and got annoyed by the fact that I logged in multiple times without her knowing. I explained her that it was my way to understand her view whenever we had an argument - however she told me not to text her again and blocked me. She unblocked me the following day, but I haven't texted her again. It's been 6 days since then.
Although I betrayed her trust, I feel deep sentiments for her and I would put as much effort as it is required to regain her. I truly believe it was a huge mistake to risk compromising our relationship for a casual date that would not have led anywhere anyways. I also feel like she still cares about me - she hasn't removed me from social media or anything like that. Besides, she unblocked me right the next day which means she felt bad to leave me on block to some extent. On the other hand, she recently made her profile public and started to post more stories - essentially trying to signal others that she is single.
I am aware everything is still recent in her mind and hence it is unlikely she will be open to restart the communication for now. However, I also feel like the chance of her meeting someone else is higher if I leave too much time to pass and besides she might also be completely detached from me at that point. Another option I am considering is to leave it completely dead until I move back to our home country where I can get in touch with her again on the basis that it will not be a long distance relationship anymore.

600k in VTI, mid 20s. I've started making friends with older folks (40+) and they've really started pushing me to get into real estate, they think it's insane I have this much money just lying around in the stock market.
I understand they're biased because they made their bread during the housing boom, but I can't help but wonder if they're right. I do live in VHCOL bay area which doesn't help, where stocks might crash 20% but housing prices remain stable or keep trending up.

Hi all, I have my visa appointment for B1/B2 soon.
The main purpose of my visit in Business Visit, to meet customers and for training. I have a letter from my company that says so and that they will cover flights, accommodations etc, and that I am not paid salary during this time.
There was an option in DS-160 form to apply for just B1 or just B2 or B1/B2 (for both business and pleasure). I know they generally give just B1/B2, but there are cases where they give just B1 in which you can't travel for pleasure, so I went with B1/B2 and also I would want to travel 3-4 days for tourism after work visit.
  1. How do I say this when they ask about my purpose of visit? Do I say that my main purpose of visit is business and that I would travel for tourist purposes for 3-4 days after that? or just say Business? or say Business and Pleasure?
  2. The letter from my employer doesn't have a specific date on it for the meeting. Will it be an issue? It was a meeting discussed on teams so no proper form of communication for it, although I know the dates.
  3. Will it help my case that I have multiple UK visit visas, including long term, and a Schengen visa and good travel history on it?
Thanks in advance for any help, the whole interview process is stressing me out a bit as it is my first time applying for the US visa. Let me know if anything else I should keep in mind.

2023.05.30 00:04 EstrayOne Reinstalling Prepar3D... An experience

Sorry but I just need to vent a little.
After playing MSFS for so long I was itching to fly the 747-8f again and do some cargo hauling which I loved doing. Well after some days of reinstalling all my addons I got everything working again (Active Sky + Cloud Art, ORBX world products and ofcourse the PMDG 747-8f). I didn't have time last week to do a whole flight but this evening I finally had some time to get a full flight in.
ASCA breaks just as I'm about to get ready for pushback. It decides that it can't find my ASP3D anymore and refuses to work.
Weird but ok maybe install an update.
There is no update. Oh wel okay well install the update anyway maybe it'll fix it. It didn't.
Okay uninstall ASCA and reinstall it.
Well now my whole sim is broken it just plays sound and it recognizes my control inputs but it just gives a black screen...
Now I fully remember why I was done with Prepar3D holy shit... Just one hickup and it just shits itself.
I'm done. Back to MSFS and do some calming scenery VFR to calm me down.

I remember a family vacation where we flew to Las Vegas in the USA and I had just turned 18 (where I live in Canada the legal drinking age is 18). My parents talked continuously about how excited they were to drink on the plane and get drunk in Vegas (they were alcoholics) and they made it seem like having a drink on the plane was a fun thing that adults always do… it’s a vacation! Have a vacation drink on the plane! Woo!
I was so excited to be 18 and I could finally be like the adults and get a vacation drink in the air! Even though I wasn’t old enough to have any in Vegas I could at least have a cocktail in the air as an official grownup, right?
When the stewardess asked me what I’d like, I ordered my alcoholic beverage, assuming it was legal since I could legally drink in Canada. She gently informed me that “airplane rules” are different and I had to be 19 to have alcohol in the air so I wasn’t quite of age yet. A minor disappointment, but not a huge deal as I wasn’t a drinker having been underage. Nobody noticed and I wasn’t really embarrassed or bothered, as rules are rules; I just ordered a Diet Coke instead. The stewardess didn’t seem phased by it at all in that moment.
My parents were in the seats across the aisle from me. My Nmom LOST IT, drawing attention to us from all directions. “How DARE you embarrass us like this?! Oh my god I can’t believe you would try to order a drink this is SO EMBARRASSING 🙈”. She moaned and covered her face, saying over and over again “I can’t believe you do this to us in public”. And “I’m so embarrassed and I have to be around these people for the rest of the flight”. “You always humiliate me like this in public”. It was incredibly dramatic and LOUD and the people in the seats around us all heard her and turned to see what was going on.
Where it hadn’t been a big deal moments earlier, I was suddenly overwhelmed with shame and embarrassment. I felt like the biggest jerk for embarrassing my parents SO badly and I just felt so incredibly dirty and shameful and embarrassed for having ordered an alcoholic beverage on vacation while being (technically) of age.
When the plane landed and we got settled at our hotel, my parents then told me to go on about my way by myself because they had drinking and gambling to do and I wasn’t old enough to join them and I embarrassed them so much on the plane that they just had to be away from me so as not to be publicly embarrassed anymore for the rest of the Vegas vacation. I spent the rest of the 4 days in Vegas literally wandering around the strip by myself at 18 years old.

2023.05.30 00:01 Dracyl Natural grey hairs turning gold in between semi-permanent color applications, would purple shampoo help?

Hello!I've been using Wella Soft Color in Blue Black for years. I only dye my hair like 4 times a year (February, June, October and December) and since the dye is semi-permanent, I just let it wash out to my natural brunette/chestnut hair until is time for me to dye again. I keep my hair below shoulder length, sometimes like 4 inches below shoulders, sometimes I let it grow mid back until the bra line, but right now is 4 inches below shoulders.I come from a long line of women with salt/pepper hair, so in recent years, I started getting grey hairs, and I notice I get awesome blue highlights on them when I use the dye, but once the dye starts fading, the grey hairs that were bluish start fading into what ends up looking like a blonde highlight, and obviously the new growth comes silver, so when I have like 2-3 inches roots of new growth I'll have chestnut/grey in my roots but the rest is chestnut/gold. I also notice my hair from mid shaft to ends tends to catch a tiny bit of reddish hue, I'm assuming because of the dye itself fading.
Since Soft Color fades gradually, my roots and ends don't have a shocking contrast, and I usually style my hair with wavy layers; and my grey hairs aren't coarse, so people usually tell me they look like highlights, but I was wondering if using a purple or blue shampoo in between dyes would help me keep the "gold" at bay. I don't want to cover the greys, I just want them to not be yellow until the time comes for them to be gloriously blue again for a few weeks, and then let them be grey.
I'm currently "on break" after coloring in the first week of February, and I'll be putting on dye again the last week of June for my birthday. The reason under the "4 times a year" is because I prefer giving my hair a rest, and only dye it on those specific dates because of specific social gatherings where I want my hair to look fresh and blue :)
Right now I'm using a OUAI detox shampoo + mask once a week (I know that fades my dye faster, but I get super hard water where I live and that shampoo really helps with it and my hair is healthier than ever), Christophe Robin detox scrub +mask also once a week and a regular shampoo+ conditioner once a week, so I was thinking about subbing the regular one for purple/blue one if necessary. I also read about "toning", but I'm not clear if that would work on natural grey hair.

TL,DR: My grey hairs turn a lovely blue when I use my usual semi-permanent dye, but as it fades they become blonde while my new growth is also silver. Not a fan of the blonde "highlights" even though everybody compliments me on those, will purple or blue shampoo help? 😅

I'm an Indigenous law student (had to make a throwaway because just that info with my post history could be enough to doxx me). I know I am Indigenous, my whole family is on reserve, 3/4 of my grandparents went to residential school, its not some distant heritage thing. The further I go in academia I'm seriously, seriously disturbed by how many 'pretendians' are around me, not only taking the spaces and awards for Indigenous people but becoming elevated and touted as leading voices and executives of Indigenous agencies and organizations.
Some of the hardest hitting was one of my undergrad professors who I did research for was later found out to be a pretendian. Now in law school, Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond was exposed to be a pretendian when I was at the Indigenous Bar Association conference. My own school's Indigenous students society has a fair few questionable members. I will probably always have a bit of a sour taste in my mouth seeing someone who is 1/16th and has no lived experience as an Indigenous person get accolades and opportunities over me, but I'm really just trying to discuss the more blatant fraud.
The Amira and Nadya Gill story that broke REALLY pissed me off, this article summarizes most of it but I'll also TLDR:
Nadya was placed on leave from Durant Barristers where she was articling and is now 'under investigation' by the LSO but seriously how can someone like this just go on and practice after, you know, doing fraud? and taking advantage of a disabled Indigenous woman? taking thousands of dollars of scholarship money from Indigenous students?
and I know they've got buddies too! Karlie Nordstrom is a friend of Nadya's, got her law degree at UofT, claims to be Metis, but was sending letters threatening the Inuit women who uncovered this (now corroborated, dare I say proven) story of fraud with defamation! But don't worry, she's on the board of directors for Aboriginal Legal Services Toronto AND got a job on Bay st filling Aird & Berlis' Indigenous quota I'm sure 🙃
Idk writing this makes me want to cry. The Gill twins is a more blatant nefarious cases of Indigenous identity fraud but because most schools and jobs only rely on self-identification, there's loads more with very vague and distant claims who skirt by with no further questions asked and collect every award, opportunity and cheque earmarked for Indigenous people and idk what can even be done.
As an Indigenous student, or when I'm a junior lawyer, I don't want to be the one going guns blazing and be identity policing especially when there are so many cases of family trauma, 60s scoop and everything else making it a sensitive subject to so many. Thats why I rely on the institutions to do their due diligence in ensuring that those they prop up as their Indigenous students or Indigenous lawyers actually are Indigenous. They should have the grounds to verify Indigenous identity claims if Indigenous identity is a prerequisite.
I guess I really have a couple questions for the sub; there's a difference between those with weak/suspicious claims and fully fraudulent like it was for the Gill twins. Like how could they have been found out sooner when they got past a lot of check points by being registered Inuit NTI members? So, bunch of us are planning to travel to Belfast for a few days, and are currently planning a potential day trip to Dublin while we are there. Almost all of us are UK nationals or UK citizens, except for one. He is Iranian currently applying for UK citizenship and doesn't hold a passport - that is no problem for the Belfast leg of the journey as it is a domestic flight - however, will he need a passport to enter Ireland? He does however, have a refugee travel document. To my understanding, the common travel area includes Ireland for all UK nationals. Our friend is a UK resident, works here but isn't a citizen or national here. Will he be covered by the common travel area or will it not apply to him? And if not will he need a passport or will the refugee travel document suffice?

The two shows have highly engaged online audiences – at the time of writing, they each hold the number one spots for scripted and reality television, respectively. HBO has banked heavily on Succession over the past two years, and Survivor was just granted even longer episodes by CBS. It's safe to say the two programs are popular – likely because of the fascinating ways they examine humans engaging in high-stakes, interpersonal politicking.
Both shows spent their respective finales barreling towards similar scenarios: a tightly knit trio, after a number of bickers and quarrels, faces a vote in which each hopes to be crowned the sole victor of the games they're playing. In Survivor, three members of the Tika tribe ally to vie for a chance to convince the jury of their merits as a player. In Succession, the three children of Logan Roy and Caroline Collingwood collude to stop Swedish tech billionaire Lukas Matsson from acquiring their father’s company, pitching themselves to Waystar's board as a preferable alternative.
The Tika three and the Roy siblings differ in a number of ways, but their fundamental dynamics are strikingly similar. Carson and Roman flourish in chaos and work the hardest to keep the trios together, displaying emotional vulnerability despite their conniving maneuvers. Carolyn and Kendall are both social media favorites, volatile protagonists with a humanizing history of addiction. And, of course, there are Yam Yam and Siobhan – always on edge and in danger, they try to use charisma to keep threats against their interests at bay.
The metaphor isn't a perfect one. Doesn't Shiv's relationship with womanhood draw a tighter parallel with Carolyn, who shares her mother's name? Is Matsson Jeff, or is he Logan? Is there a way to talk about Greg or Danny in this piece? (Answer: Likely not.) There are a myriad of interpretations, but one thing is clear: both shows demonstrate the weight of politics and relationships in building a winning social coalition.

The vote counting is constant. Yam Yam talks about reviewing rocks in the sand to get a clearer understanding of the composition of the jury. The jury and board have loomed large over Survivor and Succession since the finales of their first seasons, where Kendall shot for the king (and missed) and Sue likened her tribemates to rats and snakes. The jury and the board are filled with actors with a variety of stakes, investments and preferences – Frannie says Carolyn "changed her life" and Stewy says he's "team Ken, baby."
The paths to victory were not simple for any of our protagonists. Unforeseen twists tripped them up at every turn, from idols to advantages to deaths. Working together – and against one another – they're able to position themselves right up at the finish line, attempting to fend off "clumsy interlopers" like Heidi and Tom.

Of course, viewers know how that worked out. Though Heidi only came in second, her record time in the firemaking challenge burned Carson's chance at a winning game to a crisp, his fear of public failure similar to Roman's self-immolating eulogy at his father's funeral. Just as Carson is pushed out, Roman, too, steps out of contention, leaving Ken and Shiv to compete for the coveted crown. Their arguments throughout the series are sometimes a smokescreen, but their closeness and familiarity with one another also creates very real tensions – reminiscent of the fights between Yam Yam and Carolyn.
Unfortunately for the Roys, this competition gives Matsson space to use Tom as a reliable CEO option. Like the sole survivors of past seasons, Tom knows how to play a strong social game with the hand he's dealt. Following in Heidi's footsteps, he pitches his humble background and hardworking attitude during a "hang" with Matsson, a choreography that mimics that of a strong final tribal council.
His relationships within the show are integral to Tom's victory within the realm of Succession, but there is a broader context outside of the confines of the two stories. While the winners may have won votes and taken power within the narratives of the shows, there is another game of favoritism playing out with the show's audience. This game of hearts and minds is won by strengthening the audience's connection to the characters on their screens – and reflects the parasociality at the heart of contemporary social media.

Just look at Reddit and Twitter after the finales. While the Yam Yam and Connor trains chugged on, Carolyn stans and Kenheads witnessed a tale of brokenhearted loss. These characters dominated their stories, introducing the audience to their lives and allowing us to witness the massive ups and downs of their journey – both times culminating in cathartic swimming montages.
Beyond the fiction of Succession, there is no Kendall Roy. Carolyn Wiger is, in the words of College & the Electric Youth, a real human being – and a real hero. In recent seasons, Survivor has shied away from controversial cast members, and for good reason. Unlikeable or villainous characters may make good reality TV, but they're often maligned, misrepresented, and even doxxed by viewers who don't approve of their in-game decisions and personalities. Even Sandra, the Queen of Survivor, has had to contend with angry Parvati stans on her Instagram account. In contrast, the Tika Three and their castmates are eminently likable, from Jamie's boundless positivity to Frannie and Matt's adorable showmance. These are real people, but the meanness is excised – and so winning the social game with the audience is an easier process. Reality TV contestants are now all but expected to rack up major follower counts and brand deals online, making a positive relationship with an audience a potentially lucrative prospect.
And yet, Succession has managed to turn the most onerous people into babygirls and faves. A fascist pervert, a defender of sexual abuse, and a murderous, neglectful father should not make for a likable trio. But seeing them gleefully concoct the world's worst smoothie conjures enough joy in the audience to make them forget, even momentarily, the characters' worst actions.

Maybe that's because, like the real-life cast of Survivor, the cast of Succession is adored. There is a difference here between fact and fiction, and a creation of two social games. The other springs to life with forums and fancams as audiences have spent the shows' running times speculating about winners and losers, spurred on by sly commentary and misdirection from both casts.

2023.05.29 23:59 Cornelius_Ravencroft Advance of Zeta Re-Boot Weapon Containers

For many years I've lusted after the mecha shown in the AOZ Re-Boot, but since pretty much all of the relevant AOZ kits were P-Bandai, I never thought I'd actually get my hands of some. Then my prayers were answered when the USA P-Bandai store opened up and I was able to get the two kits at the top of my list: the TR-6 Wondwart and the TR-6 Haze'n-thley II Rah. With those and a Kehaar II I just got I figured that I could start to put together some of the larger combinations like the Queenly. Unfortunately, there's one big thing in my way: the weapons containers. These are the big boxy things that are often shown connected to the sides of a Kehaar in flight mode, and the Queenly has a total of 5 of them. As far as I can tell, they are not part of any kit currently on the market, with the quasi-exception of a Queenly figure/kit I found a video of on Youtube, but that's in a different scale, and I'm not about to drop over $200 on one of those. At this point I'm pretty sure the only thing left to do is to design one myself and 3D print it, but before I embark on that project, I thought I should poke this community and see if anyone knows of a kit that has one, or if someone else has already designed one.
