2023.05.30 00:18 Right-Dimension5953 Commuter and regular biker (if that is possible) looking for advice/help
Hi guys pretty new here, so i hope i do not cross some guidelines.
I’ve been commuting regularly for about 3 years now without seasonal pauses (weather was kind for biking thankfully) and about 4 months ago i started biking from 30-80 kilometers during weekends.
And I have seen huge improvements in my cardio and especially my strength in legs and lower back, but my legs never ever literally feel well rested. My commute became so integrated into my everyday life that I’m unable to not cycle even for a day.
But even so I’m not forcing myself during weekdays or so I think I’m not.
Now to give some info. Town that I live in is full of hills, my home to work commute is literally 2 km uphill but even if it’s uphill it’s really short and quick commute. During the weekdays every day I average around 10 km, I don’t have a diet or some special regime and only physical activity is cycling and hiking.
So after this awfully long story I truly hope someone with greater experience will help me recover, I have this feeling of leg fatigue for 2 months now and is mentally limiting me from going further even though my lungs and cardio are telling me to go further (that sounded exactly something roadie would say) but i hope I was clear.

2023.05.29 23:58 Naru_the_Narcissist My review of Your Lie in April
Inspiration can be a fickle thing. The muses may guide our hearts towards a particular passion, but they don’t always stick around to see us through it. As a child, Kousei Arima felt a natural attraction to the piano. He could play music by ear, was a gifted mimic, and had boat loads of potential to one day dominate the instrument. With the help and encouragement of a family friend, Kousei’s mom set him on his desired path, but life as a pianist was harder than he thought. Rather than playing for fun and expressing himself through music, she wanted him to be able to make a living through his music, so she went as hard on her little pianist as possible, going as far as to beat and abuse him if he underperformed or tried to play a piece in his own way. By the time the terminal illness she’d hid from him took it’s toll on her, his passion was gone, replaced with the cold, robotic delivery of one who could deliver a piece perfectly, but found no more joy in doing so. He lost his mother, along with his ability to hear the notes he was playing.
Two years later and about three feet taller(I’ll GET to that), Kousei still tinkers around with the piano, but hasn’t played it seriously, to the chagrin of all who enjoyed his work, or just hate to see him so incomplete. It’s at this point, like all down-trodden men who’ve lost their luster for life, that along comes that one girl to bring color back into his world. Her name is Kaori Miyazono, and she’s a violinist who cares nothing for rules or convention, finding childish but somehow wise joy in every aspect of life, and with this one chance meeting, Kousei finds a new muse… A capricious, cheerful beauty whose revisionist musical performances instantly connect with the crowds she plays for, and whom seems singularly obsessed with performing alongside Kousei, and helping him to relaunch the career that he’d so recently abandoned. But her dedication to helping him to overcome his tragedy hides a secret tragedy of her own, and one simple lie she told back in April will live on to define their relationship as they change each others lives through mutual inspiration.
I haven’t seen everything that’s been produced by A-1 pictures, but I honestly can’t remember seeing anything they’ve done that looked outright bad. Sure, Sword Art Online and From the New world looked a little sloppy at times, resorting to broken character models to show fluid motion at reduced costs, but if that’s the worst they can do, then they could do a lot worse. They seem to take a lot of care with their work, putting an admirable amount of effort into quality control, like letting a low budget get the better of them would be an insult to their pride or something, and if that observation is correct, then I like the way they think. I’ve noticed that they generally have a penchant for putting a lot of energy into special effects, and then using just enough budget saving tricks to compensate without going overboard or letting it become noticeable. Key frames are well drawn and pleasing to the eye, and they feature a little more than just flapping mouths, with occasional shifts in posture to keep the characters expressive.
Of course, there don’t need to be special effects in a show about musicians, right? Wrong. Not only are special textures like water given special treatment, but we often get visual representations of the emotions brought out by a piece of music, which use environmental and 3D effects to keep our attention during the sequence, especially towards the end when Kousei and Kaori are playing together in a fantasy sequence, and the camera liberally revolves around a beautifully 3D animated piano. The characters also have a lot of inner monologuing that’s shown to us in artistic fashion, reminiscent of His and Hers Circumstances, but what I found the most impressive was the actual animation of the characters playing their instruments on stage. I can’t confirm this, but I have heard from a few people that A-1 pictures used a technique similar to rotoscoping, and I feel no justification for doubting this rumor, as every movement of the performing musicians, from fingers on the keys to the way the bow’s movements perfectly matches the music of the violin.
It would be so easy to get away with having a still image on screen while only the performers arms moved, and more intense note being played offscreen while only the audience’s frozen faces of adoration are showcased, but as I said, that would be an insult to A-1. Kousei, Kaori and several others put their entire bodies into their performances, losing themselves in it, and you feel every drop of their adrenaline. Character designs are beautifully polished and easy on the eyes, with it’s only major departure from reality being that the musician characters look a little more distinctive and exuberant than non-musicians, like Kousei’s friends. Well, okay, there is one other unrealistic detail that bothered me a bit… The difference in height between 14 year old characters and themselves at 12 is fucking insane. My jaw dropped when they said that Kousei quit the piano at 12, because he was so short that when he sat on the bench his feet didn’t even touch the ground. I could have sworn he was, like, 6 or something. It’s my only real issue with the visuals, but it’s still a pretty jarring one.
The music of the series… Do I even have to say it? It’s a series about musicians, and you can’t do something like that if you don’t have the knowledge or resources to pull it off, and they seriously pulled it off. Not only is it full of classical music, you can tell the difference in the way these pieces are being played, and the music that is meant to inspire and astound people does exactly that to the audience as well as the characters. From what I gather, Yuna Shinohara, a decorated Japanese violinist who was only 21 at the time, played the music for Kaori, and her wealth of training and experience did not go to waste. I can’t find as much information on Eriko Kawachi, who played all of the piano pieces, which is unfortunate. The show’s actual soundtrack was composed by Masaru Yokoyama, and while it isn’t as memorable or powerful as the character-based performances, it’s still solid and well-orchestrated, so it’s a shame it gets overlooked in favor of the insert tunes.
The English dub was produced by Aniplex, and features a lot of newer actors from this decade, alongside a few industry veterans. I’d like to say these newcomers step up and use this show as a platform to make a name for themselves, but I’d be stretching the truth a bit, mostly on account of the many loops that Your Lie’s text throws them for. Their performances were not consistent, which is a direct result of their material not being consistent, and I don’t really think it was fair for them to be thrown into something this eclectic. For the most part, they do a fine job voicing the characters while nothing’s really happening. It’s just characters talking to each other, sounding like natural teenagers going about their lives. Where they really shine is during dramatic scenes, and ho boy are there a lot of dramatic scenes in this anime. There’s a lot of pain, insecurities, confusion, all of that fun adolescent stuff, but with a much harsher but still believable edge to it once you realize the kind of real life circumstances that they’re dealing with.
While some of these issues may be worthy of an eyeroll from the viewer… Most of the characters who are in love with Kousei fall into this category… They’re going through issues that you probably had to deal with as well, and you can scoff at it from your seat as a grown up, or laugh at how silly it is for this obvious harem to try and be something more, they’re feeling something you’ve felt at some point, whether you remember it or not, and they damn well make you feel it. The exception, where several otherwise amazing actors begin to falter… Is with the gag humor, when the characters go SD Chibi for exaggerated reactions, and I don’t think they were ready to transition the specific roles they were playing into it. Max Mittelman, for example, is one of the best voice actors to come out of the 2010’s, and even though he hasn’t been acting long, his voice control and dramatic chops have landed him plenty of leading roles. He can do comedy under the right circumstances… You’d know what these circumstances are if you’ve seen One Punch Man… But he sounds horrible during the gag jokes.
It’s even worse for Erica Lindbeck, who had a tough job playing such a nuanced character as Kaori, whose happy-go-lucky persona hides a darker interior, and she does a great job of it, but the gag scenes just make her sound like a despicable asshole. Smaller characters face the same issue, albeit on a smaller scale, but the few veterans are able to navigate the minefield a lot more skillfully, like Wendee Lee(Who, in all fairness, never has to do a gag scene), Stephanie Sheh and Carrie Keranen. They have the experience to stretch their roles beyond the appropriate tones, which comes in handy here. The adaptive script is loose, but still accurate enough, and changes the vernacular so everyone sounds more like contemporary English, without ever sacrificing the intent of the text. They make a handful of charming and character-appropriate references, like occasional nods to Charlie Brown and The Phantom of the Opera, although they also use the phrase ‘as you know’ a few too many times. They probably should have changes some of the text, as a lot of it, when translated, sounds weird coming from 14 year olds.
Okay, so, here we are again. It wasn’t too long ago that I was calling out modern anime fans for letting their emotions cloud their judgement, saying that they often give perfect scores to any anime that makes them cry. Seriously, you could give a critic a massage, a home cooked meal and the best sex of their life and you’d still be working harder for a 10/10 than most anime do. Back in 2016, I’d just uploaded my reviews of Clannad and Clannad Afterstory, and I asked social media to recommend an anime that had genuine feels… nothing manipulative, nothing manufactured, nothing too formulaic, just an anime that would touch me emotionally and make me cry with sincerity. The overwhelming answer was Your Lie in April, a show I’d been avoiding due to all of the hype. I finally gave it a watch, and did it stand up as a heartfelt masterpiece, or did it offer the same old same old? Well, to be honest,it’s a little of both. My feelings on this show were mixed the first time around, and the second viewing hasn’t changed that.
Unfortunately, Your Lie doesn’t get off to a great start. The first thing we see is a foul ball hitting our man character in the head, lying on the floor and bleeding with what has to be a serious concussion, but not only does he heal immediately, but he shares the blame for the broken window the ball flew through. That’s not just bad, that’s disturbingly bad. It sets an early precedent for him being a sad sack with no will of his own, which I guess is kind of accurate, but it also makes his closest friend look like a monster for taking advantage of it(Trust me, this feeling is only gonna get worse.) I try to move past this, but almost immediately, it becomes apparent that all three of Kousei’s friends are some of my least favorite cliches in anime history. His two primary friends are Tsubaki and Watari, and they are… Respectively… A childhood friend who’s hopelessly in love with the main character, and a girl crazy guy who exists to make the main character feel desirable in comparison. I am so sick and tired of these two archetypes being stuck in orbit around at least half of the main characters in the medium.
And Kaori’s worse, because she’s a trope that I usually don’t see in anime, and I’m not complaining about that. She’s happy-go-lucky, she’s childish, she’s an enlightened soul who’s able to see all of the simple joy in life, and she comes out of nowhere to dedicate her life to dragging the main male character out of the slumps. She is a Manic Pixie Dream Girl, which is to sexism what the Magical Negro trope is to racism. Granted, she deconstructs the trope a little bit, as she actually has a backstory and a reason to help Kousei, but she makes up for that small silver lining by taking the “Life begins at man” trope to a new extreme, as “Life begins AND ENDS at man.” I’ll give her this, she IS the reason I kept watching the series, as I was entranced by her violin performance in episode 2, and she made me want to keep watching so I could hear more of her work, which sounded even better when she played with Kousei. On top of that, she plays an important… Dare I say instrumental… Role in Your Lie’s deeper themes.
Your Lie in April is a story about inspiration, and it attacks this concept from every possible angle. As annoying and cliched as his friends may be, Kousei is a good character who has a great arc that deals with this theme. He begins as a child, having fun doing something that he’s gifted at, until he stops doing it for fun and starts doing it as a future career, being forced to perfect it and take it seriously by his mother, who pushes him to the point of abuse. She controls his life, making everything he does revolve around the piano, even taking away his cat and abandoning it somewhere so it can’t scratch his hands. He loses the ability to hear the notes he’s playing, and quits altogether to avoid his mother’s tyranny along with the intense pressure she put on him for not being good enough. On the surface, this is a very mature look at child abuse and the way it can have long term psychological effects on the developing mind, such as Kousei’s performance anxiety, and especially the fact that cats pose a trigger for him(And I mean the actual definition of trigger, not the bullshit internet definition), and the abuse in question is realistic, rather than cartoony or melodramatic.
Below the surface, this is a story for anyone who’s ever lost their passion for something they once loved. The idea that expressive and interpretive music is frowned upon, and only literal performances are acceptable in competition, which is enforced by both the competition committee and Kousei’s mother, gives an understandable reason for his loss of inspiration. His music was becoming routine, and pointless. I don’t think his inability to hear the notes he’s playing is realistic at all, but it’s symbolic for that loss of passion. When your work becomes routine, it becomes repetitive, and it finally becomes robotic. When your hobby becomes work, you fall out of love with it, which is why Kaori coming into his life was such a major turning point for him. She showed him that there was another way to play. She inspires him, breathing new life into his abilities, and helps him to separate his passion from the pain and sadness that he’d come to associate it with, and it changes his life in so many ways… He starts playing again, he comes out of his shell, and he even begins teaching a younger pianist… That he winds up inspiring her in return.
They also make an argument that you play even better when you’re playing for other people, and while I’ve never personally agreed with that, they make a compelling case. Your own music, your own performances, are not your only legacy. The music you inspire others with is just as important, as your work also lives on through their work. They make a great point when they say that it’s hard to play the piano when you compare yourself to Beethoven, but it’s not nearly as hard when you remember that Beethoven was once just like you, a rookie trying his best to measure up to the greats who inspired HIM. It’s a shame they had to resort to a manic pixie dream girl in order to pull this off, but it’s largely forgivable, especially considering certain reveals that happen in the final episode. So yeah, this is not a shallow series. There is meat to the story, and something meaningful that you can get out of watching it. I’d be happy to say that the series was also executed well, but sadly, this is where things start to break down.
The text of the series, for example, is severely lacking. The idea of inspiration and Kousei’s character arc are well written and exactly as subtle as it needs to be, but the other subplots… The romantic ones in particular… Are annoyingly obvious, and frankly, kind of arbitrary. I mentioned Tsubaki as a ‘childhood friend’ earlier, and while this should instantly telegraph that she’ll never get her guy… They never fucking do… She does absolutely nothing else to justify her presence. Everything about her revolves around her love for Kousei and why he won’t respond to it. Every aspect of her life ties in somehow to her love for him, and since it amounts to nothing, she could have been written out in the first half of the series. I won’t go into too much detail about the other romantic subplot, or how it offers Watari his only relevance to the plot(although he does have a few moments relating to the theme), but they commit one other huge mistake… They use constant, and I mean constant, voice over narration from the characters as they explain their feelings to the audience. It’s lame, it’s tedious, and it seems to be trying it’s best to keep YOU from thinking too hard about what you’re watching, because it doesn’t want the pointless teenage melodrama to lose it’s effect.
Another huge problem is the gag humor, which feels viscerally inappropriate and out of place. It makes the heavier themes of the show harder to swallow, and not just on an aesthetic level. For example: We see Kousei sustain head injuries during two of these gags, that result in him lying on the floor and bleeding out. We also see Kaori hit him right in the crown of the head with an axe kick, driving her heel down into his skull. Now, if these instances didn’t cause any lasting damage, and the people doing it are supposed to be seen as likable, how am I supposed to feel when his mother beats him in the head with her cane? I’ve seen him shrug off shit like that before, so I don’t care. Am I supposed to feel different because of the tone of the scenes? This isn’t the fucking Looney Toons. Hell, even the Looney Toons had consistency. I can’t be expected to believe that a portion of the material shown to me doesn’t count just because the writer was making a joke. That’s disgusting. I’ve complained about Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood making this mistake, but Your Lie is just as bad.
And then you have the plot, which did not work for me at all. Like, I said the themes were strong in this series, but they suffered one major setback. Kousei’s mother physically abused him and forced him to play music the way she wanted him to, all because she thought it was in his best interest. His friends, however, do exactly the same thing. Sure, they might not take away his beloved pet, but they still harass him, assault him, chase him, break into his room and generally act like complete assholes in order to get their way. He warns that his performance might not be good, he falters due to a psychological breakdown, Kaori has Tsubaki and Watari start roundhouse kicking him, and HE apologizes. How are they any different than his mother? Because it’s supposed to be comedic? I’m not exaggerating when I say that most of the interactions he has with his friends make me cringe, with their only justifications being ‘comedy,’ and the fact that they just happened to wind up being right. So the ends justify the means.
And then you have Kaori’s entire plot, which… Okay, I’m going to try not to go into spoilers, but if you’ve seen the show, you know damn well what I’m talking about. And this is the big one, the one that makes everybody praise the show out the wazoo, so I’ll try to be gentle. At the end of episode 4, Kaori faints on stage. At that moment, even though I was trying to enjoy the series despite it’s flaws, I couldn’t help it. I knew where this was going. I said, “Oh fuck, she’s gonna (censored), isn’t she?” I am dead serious about that. The beginning of the fifth episode featured her in the hospital, and folks, I predicted everything. I knew what was going to happen to her, i knew she was keeping it secret, I knew that it was going to be kept deliberately vague all the way to the end, I knew I’d never hear her play again(outside of maybe a dream or fantasy sequence), I knew what her backstory and connection to Kousei was going to be.
Knowing this stuff in advance took a huge damper off of the emotional impact of literally any point of the show. Granted, I did make one prediction that wasn’t true. I predicted we’d never meet her parents, which I wish had turned out true, because her parents are… Brace yourself for this… They’re Nagisa’s parents from Clannad. They are literally that. They own a pastry shop, they’re wacky and over-the-top, they live in said shop, and… Well, there’s one other spoiler connection, but that, along with a painful firefly sequence, made your Lie feel TERRIBLE at foreshadowing. I found myself, in both moments, shouting at my TV screen, “Okay, I get it, she’s gonna (censored), shut the fuck up about it!” So did the big bad tragedy work on me? No, of course it didn’t. The only part I got choked up at was a late scene when a cat died at a vet’s office, because it brought up painful memories for me. Don’t get me wrong, there’s something here, and it does make the experience a rewarding one, but it just couldn’t stick the landing.
Your Lie in April is available as a Rightstuf Exclusive, and I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the price is offensively high. Even on sale as part of the site’s holiday deals, it’ll still costed 130 dollars for each HALF of the series, down from 160 dollars regular price. Used copies on ebay go for as low as 60 dollars for each HALF, and I can not recommend you pay that much for an overrated series. You can watch it for free on Netflix, but if you absolutely need a physical copy, I’d actually go against my better judgement and recommend the Malaysian bootlegs on Ebay, which do come with a dub for a fraction of the official price. The manga is available from Kodansha comics, and volume 1 even comes with a sweet exclusive cover if you get it from Loot Crate. The live action movie is probably available stateside, but from what I’ve heard about it, I don’t care enough to check.
Your Lie in April isn’t a great anime, but it’s also not a terrible one. So, overall, is it good or bad? Well, to be honest, I didn’t enjoy the vast majority of it. I found the gag humor annoying and in bad taste, I found the comedic violence way too similar to some of the tragic material, there are too many cliches, and I caught on to some of the more important plot points way too early to fall for them. Having said that, I can’t say the experience was a bad one. The themes of Kousei’s character arc resonated very strongly with me, as someone who’s currently falling out of love with a long time hobby, and while I found his friends to be wholly unlikeable, his piano rivals were much more interesting, and I actually want to see more of him interacting with them. The final tragedy would have been a lot stronger if it hadn’t been so obvious, or if it at least had a proper explanation, and you can’t possibly deny that the audio and visual production went beyond top notch. It had a lot of problems, but honestly, it’s an okay show. It doesn’t live up to the hype, but it’s worth checking out. I’m being generous here, but I’ll give Your Lie in April a 6/10.

2023.05.29 23:44 letitdry86 37/PC/EST looking for player my Player 2 my duo
I am looking for my player 2..I know this isn't really the place to look but, eh why not try? right? I'm looking for someone who shares my interest. I really enjoy survival games. 7 days to die, valheim, the forest are some examples. I like building even though I'm not that good at building but, I still enjoy it. You can teach me. I also enjoy all co-op games Far Cry I haven't finished new dawn nor have I played 6 yet ,back 4 blood, resident evil 5/6 ghost recon wildlands/breakpoint, gears of War or halo story mode. Resident evil 5/6 .I also play MMORPGS like Final Fantasy 14 (Crystal), and wow I play as Horde even though I haven't played either game in a while I still have an active sub. If you are interested in playing an MMO I don't mind leveling from 1 if you are new to the game. I also watch anime and movies. Middle Earth in general, Star Wars, Marvel and DC universe and I am a big 80s - 90s action fan. Rocky, Lethal weapon, die hard, etc.. feel free to shoot me a dm. I am usually free after 4 pm EST during the week and I am free during the weekend. I prefer Voice chat over text. Also, it doesn't matter where you are from or age. I am not looking to join a big group group. I use discord mainly.
Here is a full list of survival games I own and I am willing to buy any other ones
7 days to die, The forest , Valheim , Raft, Core Keeper these last three I have very little play time and don't know much Icarus, Scum , and No one survived

2023.05.29 23:27 boudybteich Watching "old" Star Trek.
So, I am a "new" Star Trek fan. Started watching when Discovery started airing. Also watched the "Kelvin" movies when they released but I honestly do not remember them now. Have also watched Picard and Strange new world. Up until now I never considered watching the old shows and movies but after watching Picard season 3 (which I really enjoyed, but I know I probably did not get the full nostalgia experience), I have been contemplating watching everything. It would be a massive time sink. I watch lots of other stuff and also game a bit and you always have life, friends, going out and work. Lower decks is enjoyed with knowledge to the old series so I did not watch it. I know nothing about Prodigy. Strange new worlds season 2 will have a crossover to lower decks now. Do you think I should just continue with the new shows? Watch everything? Watch only recaps of old stuff and continue? Or should I just drop everything Trek?

2023.05.29 23:22 fatboyhandsomes Adults, do you ever have days where you think about your childhood in disgust and horror? (3 bullying stories)
SPOILER: mentions abuse and sui ideation/attempt (tried my best to leave out details while still giving context)
I was given no mercy as the awkward chunky autistic kid. I was never ‘human enough’ to be part of any group. The bullying ranged from senseless elementary level gossip in late middle school to telling me straight to my face word for word what a shame it is i havent k!lled myself. I dealt with the shameless gossip and commentary on a daily basis, even the teachers would give into the urge to join sometimes and i would be punished for fighting back or making any attempt to defend myself. I felt helpless and isolated the entire time i was in school. Even some of the people i thought were my friends were huge contributors to the bullying. Most of the bullying was verbal abuse but there were a few times it escalated beyond the typical “youre fat, ugly, ky$”, etc.
The three instances that stand out to me the most: 6th grade, i was about 13. The first twilight movie had come out and i was reading the book to see what the hype was about. If im honest, i thought the book was okay. I was never super into it but i didnt hate it either. Regardless, I immediately became the “cringy vampire kid”, and the rumor that i was telling people i thought i was a vampire circulated. I had to deal with comments and false accusations of biting people (in 6th grade!) daily. Looking back on it now I genuinely cant believe that these preteens were acting like 5 year olds over a kid reading a book. But that rumor hit its peak the day that a kid in my class hurt himself during gym. I dont remember what happened, but he hurt his leg and knee and was bleeding a little. I happened to be closest on the field when i saw him fall so i rushed over to him asking if he was okay. I didnt get close before he lifted his head, saw me, then started screaming in full seriousness that i was a freak and needed to get away from him. He was bright red in the face like a tomato and genuinely looked like he would try to hurt me if i went near him. He continued on to scream at me that i was creepy and that i was just going to “suck his blood” and to stay away. I didnt go anywhere or budge because i was in shock and honestly scared. Everyone started rushing over once he started screaming at me, and naturally people were telling me to get away from him. He kept saying he didnt want me near him or to touch him. After other people came to his side i just left. I dont remember much of that incident but i think the kid transferred out of our class because he was “afraid” of me iirc. I had never touched this kid or gone out of my way to speak to him before. He would occasionally bully me but it was usually light stuff. I never saw him again, but the feeling that washed over me when he started screaming at me i couldnt even name. The bullying lessened for a bit after that but it certainly wasnt the last time someone made comments about my “vampire obsession”.
Instance number 2: I was 14. This is where my mental health took a drastic turn downward so heres where my warning starts- i will also be mentioning abuse and my attempt but wont go into detail about events. I was beginning to have su!cidal ideation. I was being abused at home and things escalated one night where my mother told me she was disowning me and giving up custody of me because she couldnt deal with me anymore. I made my attempt in silence (pills) and she took me to my grandmothers house. Friends found out and they managed to get in contact with my mom- who was absolutely thrilled (sarcasm) to hear about my attempt. Went to hospital and was involuntarily admitted from there. So heres where the bullying starts. I had a friend who, months prior, confessed to me and said she wanted to be in a relationship. I turned her down and i clearly remember being gentle about it while still telling her that i dont have romantic feelings. She took it well. At least i thought she did. I got out of involuntary admission around my 15th birthday. This girl who claimed to like me didnt even say happy birthday to me, instead she went straight to demanding we roleplay (we were 15 remember haha). I was upset and ill admit, i was toxic and wasnt kind when i laid in to her about it. She was completely unapologetic and i cut the friendship off there. It seems harsh but that was a final straw for me with her. She was always very self absorbed and showed no signs of remorse or desire to change (and she didnt lol). So naturally, her reaction was to spread rumors about me. We went to different schools at this point but we went to school together previously. I thankfully had good friends by then who told me about the entire thing including them telling her to stop. The rumor? She was telling people that /i/ was madly in love with /he and that she rejected me. She told people my attempt was over her. She made the mistake of telling this to a friend of mine who already knew about her and the reality of the situation, and get this, we were in high school at his point (10th) and this girl was STILL spreading this rumor. My friend told me that she was so happy to tell her about it in a public space. She was disgusted for me. Havent had contact with or heard about the girl who spread those rumors since but i know she was very unliked by almost everyone at that school.
Third instance: High school. Made friends with this new girl. I definitely had issues with boundaries so i cant blame her for disliking me. But she continued on to pretend to be my friend, and thats what makes it wrong. There were multiple issues with her, but the one that stuck the most was the time she let her crush make jokes about how funny it would have been to see me die. I had been hit by a car on my way to the bus stop and he was actually one of the kids who was at my stop. I dont recall if he was actually at the stop or not that day but does it matter? Pushing aside my insane amount of bad luck, this kid went on to describe in detail how entertaining it would have been to watch me die firsthand. He made comments about my body and weight, “you should have seen the dent you left in that car”. And she just stood there and laughed in my face. Every time i think of her i remember how she looked as she laughed at me. I even remember thinking she was so pretty even though she was laughing at the idea of me being dead.
Now when i talk to or meet new people all i can think of is what theyre going to say about me behind my back. If i mess up, what rumors am i going to have to hear about later on? And the biggest one yet: does this person even like me or are they just pretending to so they dont have to look or feel bad? The only thing about these instances that doesnt completely haunt me is the fact that i know that none of the people mentioned above grew up to be decent adults. I dont know about the bleeding knee kid but i honestly dont care. As messed up as i was, i grew up to be (relatively) mature and well adjusted and thats the biggest flex i could ever have on any of them.

2023.05.29 23:21 blackc2004 The state of Forest Service camp grounds?
I just got back from the memorial day weekend camping at a Forest Service camp ground. Normally I just do a lot of dispersed camping and haven't been to a real "campground" in years. I was so disappointed by the state of camping. I'm wondering if this is the new normal for campgrounds?
- People running generators at all hours of the day/night for tent camping
- Our neighbors setup a full HUGE projector screen and watched movies until 1am (with a generator running)
- Many people blasting music all day long and into the night
- This morning someone woke up at 4am to tear down their camp site and blasted music while doing it
- People burning tons of trash/plastic
- The bathroom's were trashed and we didn't see a roll of toilet paper in them once all weekend
- A camp host who did nothing about it
Overall one of the WORST camping experiences I've had in years... Are people really this inconsiderate/rude or are we just expecting too much. I was texting my partner who wasn't there about it and he said that we were being "Karens". I don't expect peace and complete silence at campgrounds like this, but this was beyond acceptable IMHO.

2023.05.29 23:05 TheRetroWorkshop Hard & Accurate Sci-fi Tip #2: Space Military Structure (Namely, Space Opera):
This is going to be one of my more serious, long posts, so strap in, as they say (though I cannot possibly detail out everything you might need to know. That would require at least three posts). To quote -- and set the stage through -- Dostoevsky (from Notes from Underground):
'Is it [history] many-coloured? May be it is many-coloured, too: if one takes the dress uniforms, military and civilian, of all peoples in all ages--that alone is worth something, and if you take the undress uniforms you will never get to the end of it; no historian would be equal to the job. Is it monotonous? May be it's monotonous too: it's fighting and fighting; they are fighting now, they fought first and they fought last--you will admit, that it is almost too monotonous.
In short, one may say anything about the history of the world--anything that might enter the most disordered imagination. The only thing one can't say is that it's rational. The very word sticks in one's throat. And, indeed, this is the odd thing that is continually happening: there are continually turning up in life moral and rational persons, sages and lovers of humanity who make it their object to live all their lives as morally and rationally as possible, to be, so to speak, a light to their neighbours simply in order to show them that it is possible to live morally and rationally in this world. And yet we all know that those very people sooner or later have been false to themselves, playing some queer trick, often a most unseemly one.
Now I ask you: what can be expected of man since he is a being endowed with strange qualities? Shower upon him every earthly blessing, drown him in a sea of happiness, so that nothing but bubbles of bliss can be seen on the surface; give him economic prosperity, such that he should have nothing else to do but sleep, eat cakes and busy himself with the continuation of his species, and even then out of sheer ingratitude, sheer spite, man would play you some nasty trick. He would even risk his cakes and would deliberately desire the most fatal rubbish, the most uneconomical absurdity, simply to introduce into all this positive good sense his fatal fantastic element. It is just his fantastic dreams, his vulgar folly that he will desire to retain, simply in order to prove to himself--as though that were so necessary--that men still are men and not the keys of a piano, which the laws of nature threaten to control so completely that soon one will be able to desire nothing but by the calendar.'
-
I would only add that he was rather harsh on the soldier and his general. Many-coloured, is he! The eternal shine of the ten million blades, the wooden hilt; the forgotten hammer, the ships of our forefathers. Ah! Such a pity to see nought in it but blood and sand -- now, that
is monotonous. If man is to mean anything at all, it must be finding some honour in life... and death. War, it must be known, is the great stage-play of time. Surely, then, the warrior is the greatest (male) part to play? Otherwise, it's all for nought!
If you're going to, as the author, gift your setting a military and its honour, you have to actually put yourself inside the mind of the general, the trooper, the law-maker, the wife at home, the child in the street; otherwise, it's going to be a hollowed-out system, a mere mote. It does not matter to me if you believe in war or not, or if all war is just (certainly, it's not): what matters is that you do your setting and peoples justice, regardless of what they may find themselves. After all, this is your job as the writer, as the artist. It's your job to let your characters and their stories free, and follow them, as to see where they may lead.
I'm not even going to dig into the elements at play, such as brotherhood, inter-national conflict resolution, national defence, social structure, and physical fitness. These elements ought to be known to you all: they are some of the clear benefits to warfare and boot camp/training, in general. I have not yet found a defeatist army, for example -- or yet a nation without some kind of guarder force, vast or not. (Note: there are some claims that actual warfare did not exist until around 9,000 BC, but I find this very difficult to believe, and have seen some counter-evidence. For example, Jane Goodall and de Waal find that chimps go to war (raiding parties, sometimes wiping out entire tribes); and there are strong indications that pre-historic human tribes were war-driven, just on smaller scales, and often using wooden weapons (thus, no direct evidence is found). We know that modern hunting (and fire-making, and related matters) existed at least 1.5-2 million years ago, according to the books I own and more recent research. That's the entire history of humanity, ultimately. There is no way these spears and slings were not used against man.)
Well, a big part of space opera is, indeed, warfare (typically in relation to defence of the Good [nation] and psychomachy). Anyway, without further ado, I give to you...
Part One: A Brief History of Battles, Great and Small Let's begin with Alexander the Great, because why not (though I could have started with Sargon of Akkad many years prior). Alexander's army was a powerful, fast-moving, and relatively small force of 40,000 men (equal to a Napoleonic corps or so). Often credited with inventing genius 'shock' tactics (the so-called hammer and anvil tactic) to overwhelm equally-sized forces. He even managed to break up, and then defeat, the vast Persian army under King Darius III (around 1500,000 strong). Alexander the Great's army is as close to the cinematic glory of 300 (2006) as you're likely to find. Soon after, Alexander was crowned King of Asia in a lavish ceremony.
Moving forward a few hundred years, at its peak, the Roman military possibly had over 500,000 soldiers across its regions (around 0.5% of citizens -- which is a fairly reliable standard across history) by 306 AD during the reign of Constantine I. Compare this to the Roman conquest of Britain under Plautius, with just a 40,000-man force (four legions and 20,000 auxiliary troops, including Thracians) in 43 AD. (It's also worth mentioning, if you're in a long-term space war, individual companies, legions, or otherwise could stay outfitted for as long as 500 years at a time without issue. The Roman Legion, Legio IX Hispana, for example, existed for at least 150 years, and led the conquest of Britain. And, within the Warhammer 40,000 universes, a single Space Marine sees battle for about 400 years before he's KIA (killed in action).)
During the Battle of Hastings in 1066 AD, each side only had upwards of 5,000-8,000 men (around 15,000 in total). This was actually a common trend, from what I found: equally common was the notion of 'law of war' and related, which meant that each side wanted to be roughly equal to the other side. This is one of the most profound discoveries of my life (more on this later). (The Japanese invasion of China, for example, taught me that having too much control over your enemy leads to madness -- there must be an innate drive to some sense of honour, fair challenge in war-making. When men are without equals, they become titans, as it were. And, if you know anything about some of the Greek titans: they were not very friendly or sane.)
Around this time (960-1279 AD), the Song Dynasty of China had a remarkable standing army of over two million men, and made use of tank-like carts and newly-invented 'grandes' (known as 'thunder crash bombs'). However, this was financially exhausting, but it was sometimes capable of fighting against invading Khitans, Jurchens, and Mongols, largely thanks to the great iron industry. Individual battles, however, were quite small.
By the time of the First Italian War (1494 AD), Europe was really starting to take its modern shape, and there were hundreds of what are ultimately power struggle wars and rebellions across Europe as we moved out of the Middle Ages. This was the opening phase of the Italian Wars, which existed between 1494 and 1559 AD. The Battle of Marignano was the last major engagement of the War of the League of Cambrai (aka the wars between 1508 and 1516 AD, within the Italian Wars. The main participants were the French, Papal States, and Republic of Venice) and took place in 1515 AD, southeast of Milan. The Battle of Marignano pitted the French army, led by Francis I and the best heavy cavalry and artillery in Europe, against the Old Swiss Confederacy (within the Holy Roman Empire -- this was the precursor of the modern state of Switzerland), whose mercenaries until that point were regarded as the best medieval infantry force in Europe. The French had German landsknechts (mercenaries famed for pike and shot formations) on their side. The French won and suffered just half the losses, and did so with a fairly stronger force -- possibly 35,000 men compared to 22,000 on the Swiss side. This led to the Treaty of Fribourg, which established the 'Perpetual Peace', and ensured good relations between the two nations for nearly 200 years. This event is largely what led to Switzerland's world-famous diplomatic autonomy and militaristic neutrality. Nonetheless, this battle -- and countless others at the time -- saw similar numbers to centuries past: roughly 20,000 on each side.
Part Two: An Introduction to Military Divisions & the Numbering System Enter Maurice de Saxe circa 1710 AD, whom you can thank, at least in part, for the modern military system, largely due to the major increase in soldiers by the 18th century, and his advanced thinking in response. A major battle felt by a young de Saxe was the Battle of Malplaquet during the War of the Spanish Succession. Battles pressed on in this manner, and at some point, de Saxe began to write about it. He wrote Mes Reveries, a profound work on the art of war, which was published after his death in 1757 AD.
He had the grand idea of reshaping the regiment system into large 'legions' (modern divisions), so that the effective officers were not wasted on smaller, single regiments. These divisions would consist of four regiments and would have a more even mix of veteran soldiers and new recruits, as well. On top of this, he -- along with some other key theorists at the time -- had the idea of simply numbering the divisions and regiments, replacing the traditional system of naming them by their commanders or by locations/regions: because that's a very temporary, rigid system that only works for small, tight-knit groups. The divisional system also allowed soldiers to climb the ranks, and effectively learn from the veterans.
The regimental system shatters command structure and weakens mobility, despite the fact you have smaller, often lighter units. Too many small, separate, disorganised units is highly ineffective when you're dealing with large armies, and quite an advanced enemy (be it the British or Prussians, in this case). What de Saxe noticed was a failing system of rigid tradition. He also hated this sort of grenadier mentality of the 17th and 18th centuries, as it displaced all the strongest and most experienced soldiers. Of course, de Saxe was not against the existence of grenadiers: the strongest soldiers, leading the assaults, such as storming fortifications. He simply wanted to evenly spread them out across all the regiments, and legions, so that every single unit was an effective tool. (This grenadier concept actually survives to this day, as a grenade launcher specialist of a typical four-man fireteam (traditionally, sharing much in common with WWII-era shock troops), and you see it all the time in movies, where he is still typically the biggest, strongest of the team.)
Battles were increasingly crossing the 100,000 mark in terms of soldier count; whereas, not long ago (that is, around 1650 AD), the numbers were more likely in the range of 20,000 for most battles, other than a few outliers.
Then, de Saxe died before he had the opportunity to actually implement his system, though the Duke de Broglie led some successful experiments with it during the Seven Years War, but it took until the French Revolution for the 'division' concept to be enforced, systematically. This ultimately fell at the hands of the French Revolutionary Army.
Enter Lazare Carnot. Like de Saxe, Carnot saw that some regiments were full of veterans, whilst others -- namely, the new revolutionary brigades -- were filled with barely-trained recruits. And, like de Saxe, his solution was to separate out the veterans and embed them within these new brigades. More importantly, he embraced de Saxe's idea of the 'division'. The new demi-brigades (regiments, as the Revolutionary Government hated and removed the term regiment) would be combined into brigades, and brigades would be combined into divisions. Later, under Napoleon, divisions themselves were combined into corps (which is and has always been the highest level of operational units for actual combat, with all units larger than corps being purely administrative, with a clear exception being Napoleon's Armee (i.e. modern field army), and a few other, smaller army groups).
This wonderfully created an intermediate level of control between the general and the brigade commanders. The Revolutionary Army became at once an army of mass and mobility. This allowed the army to move faster and more decisively than their enemies, who were still commanding at regiment or brigade level.
Full implementation of the divisional system was not realised until the French Revolutionary Government, in their centralising and anti-aristocratic ways, when they decided to entirely remove the old system of naming regiments after their commanders. They saw all of this as part of the 'ancien regime' (i.e. 'the System' or 'old system', language also used by Hitler in relation to what he called the 'Weimar Republic'. Not uncommon language from any new system). The second factor at play was that the French Revolutionary Government also didn't like the idea of merely naming regiments after regions of France. The final factor was scale: the Army was larger than ever, which made it very difficult to give specific names.
As a result, the Government began numbering their units by the late-1700s. Although the Roman legions themselves had been numbered, and de Saxe argued for it many years prior, some scholars believe that this was purely an administrative decision. (Obviously, your naming convention can be more on the religious/traditional or seculamodern side, depending on just how the entire system is set up. Warhammer 40,000 is a good example of a more Roman-inspired system, despite its far-future nature, so it's not uncommon to find very traditional, religious naming conventions within Warhammer 40,000, coupled with simple, administrative systems. And, again: Nazi Germany and other 20th-century powers, such as America and England, also shifted towards numbered and/or lettered systems for pretty much everything. Not shockingly, this is heavily featured in sci-fi, as well.)
Part Three: Napoleon & the Birth of Modern War: Although the concepts of the 'corps' and 'battalion carre' (that is, four corps) existed, they were also not implemented until the time of Napoleon in the early-1800s. He began grouping divisions into corps, making the largest units in history -- equal to entire armies of older periods (three divisions and some cavalry regiments, for upwards of 30,000 men). He commanded dozens of these corps (I think, around 20 of them for his Grande Armee when he invaded Russia in 1812 AD -- or, 500,000-600,000 men, equal to the entire core Roman military at the height of its power).
Napoleon's genius -- despite his supreme failure to invade Russia -- was ensuring that these corps were typically independent fighting units. This meant they were self-sufficient armies unto themselves. This allowed for a vast force, without the whole system becoming sluggish and disorganised. Of course, as with Alexander the Great before him, this ultimately led to major decentralization and failure once the leader is defeated; thus, without a singular ruler, and without endless success, the entire system breaks down (unless there is something else binding them).
Nonetheless, by now, all the European powers had adopted the divisional system. The first British divisions were established by Arthur Wellesley in 1809 AD, for example. The Napoleonic corps system then became standardised, as well.
On the other hand -- and other side of the world -- the U.S. had its own 'legion', wholly separate from the European divisional evolution. They were independent units for the western wilderness, not sub-elements of a larger army. The U.S. finally adopted a more European system by WWI, however. (Mostly because the U.S. was simply not a large enough force yet, though it did have some major battles and unit examples.)
Regardless, the primary building block for all was still the regiment or division. This remained true through WWII and beyond.
Part Four: The Four Spatial Forms of Sci-fi I shall skip modern history, because it's -- shockingly -- not much different to older history. This further tells me that there are some universal themes and elements to warfare, unless something changes beyond measure. As of 2023 AD, the basic building block of most armies is still the regiment or division, and 'shock' tactics, of smaller units are back in style, and have been since the 1960s or so. (I do have a few things to say about WWI and beyond, but I cannot fit it in this post, and it's not required reading.)
Technically, there is a fifth: space warfare proper (an admixture). But, we shall simply focus on the four primary. I use the term 'spatial forms' because I don't know a better term. See below.
- Space as an ocean (navy propeoceanic)
- Spaceships as submarines (navy/subaquatic)
- Spaceships as tanks (army/ground)
- Space as air with less stuff (air force/air)
You find, and should focus on, one of these as the primary mode (at least). This is true in most combative and non-combative contexts. All are workable and interesting, and have some notable examples, mostly in film/TV and novels. There is much psychology connected to each, and some innate differences to consider; and you have to think about such in relation to your nation/culture, as well, and their pre-spacefaring history.
An interesting, real-world example is America's Space Force. This is fundamentally army-and-naval driven (i.e. Marines), despite its primary air force-like nature in simple terms of the vessels and how it would function in a war. This is evidenced by the fact its ranking system and such is built around the Marine Corps. I guess, that means, going with American Marines (a complex admixture of both soldier and sailor) is not such a bad idea in sci-fi. We all know this is a decent idea, anyway, and it's seen heavily in sci-fi since the 1940s (hence, the term 'space marine'). Other marine forces are fairly in line with this, as well. The typical route here is
space as an ocean. The ships are merely carrying the marines to their location (planet or otherwise). You see this with Star Wars' Stormtroopers (though I did not mention such above, I shall now: this stems from late-WWI when Germany created new advanced tactics for storming British trenches. But, most of all, it speaks to Hitler's Stormtroopers, fused with some kind of space marine position; thus, we end up with Lucas' forgetting Stormtrooper force). (Of course, the Rebels of Star Wars and the Empire's TIE Fighters go with the
space as air with less stuff trope. And, there is a general sense of both army and navy from the Empire. You rarely get the 'submarine feel', in this case.)
Star Trek (at least, the original) takes the
spaceships as submarines trope much of the time (other than the fact, their ships are far too wasteful, volume-wise -- but that's mostly for filming purposes, so I can accept it). I actually love this mode (though I don't care for Star Trek's version so much).
Battlestar Galactica (new series), among others, seems to take a mixed view.
Which form or mode you run with, primarily, really depends upon the exact setting, culture, story, theme, and style you're going with. I suggest figuring out which you want/which fits best, and then trying to stick to that singular vision as much as possible. To get ideas, you can research as much as possible -- both real science/history and fiction.

2023.05.29 23:01 Effective-Bake-6917 Husband being accused of murder. I don’t know who to beleive
There’s a lot going on here. Hell, this could be a lifetime movie.
My husband and I are 26. We have 3 kids and we will have one more. One is not my biological child. But he doesn’t know that yet. Husband became a dad when he was 17. Apparently his girlfriend at the time retrieved the condom, and… ya know, or poked a hole in it, or something because she was pregnant and it was his. Obviously after this stunt the relationship didn’t last but he took full responsibility and never suggested the a-word.
When the baby was 2 she passed from a drug overdose. We met when we were 19 in college. You can probably see how shocked I was when I learned my boyfriend, who never used drugs and didn’t even drink (still doesnt) had a baby at 17. Overtime I moved into their apartment and he started to call me mommy and we went with it.
Well before I moved in, someone broke into their apartment and he ended up shooting him. He didn’t die but a lot of stuff happened and he was charged with something minor.
Well he’s now being accused of murdering the mother of his son. He’d never do such a thing, but as horrible as it is to say, the evidence is hard to deny. I love him more than anything on this earth and either way I’ll stay by him, but deep down, as much as it hurts to admit, I think he did it.

2023.05.29 22:58 Fluffy_Fluffle Mario Bros. x Donkey Kong Country crossover.
Bowser decides, that, for once he'll take Peach somewhere far away. The Jungle Kingdom from the SMB Movie. Half of the game you play as Mario running right, and the other half you play as DK running left. The two eventually meet in the middle to defeat Bowser. Here are some game mechanics that would be in both halves:
(1. DK Barrel from Donkey Kong Country. These work exactly as the do in the Nintendo Switch port of DKC Tropical Freeze. You can have up to 4 characters on screen. For Mario, the barrels drop Luigi, Wario, and Captain Toad. For DK, the barrels drop Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, and Funky Kong.
(2. Power-Ups. In the entirety of the first half, and also late into the second half, there are ? blocks you can hit for coins or Power-Ups. Not everyone can use every power-up, for instance, Wario can't use the Tanooki Suit because he's fat. Power-Ups included will be as follows:
Mushroom. Makes you bigger and able to break bricks.
Fire Flower. Allows you to shoot fire.
Ice Flower. Allows you to shoot ice.
Penguin Suit. The Ice Flower, but you can now slide on ice. Funky Kong can't use this Power-Up because he doesn't want his bandana to get wet.
Super Leaf. You can whack enemies and fly. Wario can't use this Power-Up because he's fat. Captain Toad is the most useful with this Power-Up, as he has the shortest jump. This Power-Up works the same way as it does in New Super Mario Bros. 2, and does not require you to spam the jump button to float down.
Tanooki Suit. The Super Leaf, but now you can be a statue. Diddy Kong/Dixie Kong can't use this Power-Up as the suit is too small for them. Wario also can't use this Power-Up for the same reason as the Super Leaf. This Power-Up works as it does in Super Mario 3D Land, and does not require you to spam the jump button to float down.
Starman. Makes you invincible for a few seconds.
Now onto Power-Ups that only the Mushroom Kingdom heroes can use.
Propeller Mushroom. Makes you have a full body helicopter and can fly. (wait, haven't we seen this before?)
Mini Mushroom. Instead of making you big, it makes you small.
Now for the Power-Ups only the Kongs can use.
Rambi. That one rhino from the original DKC.
Now onto some movesets.
Mario: Punch, Crouch, Groundpound, Groundpound-Jump, Spin Jump, Triple Jump, Jump, Long Jump, Rolling Long Jump, Roll.
Luigi: Punch, Crouch, Groundpound, Groundpound-Jump, Spin Jump, Triple Jump, Jump, Long Jump, Rolling Long Jump, Roll.
Wario: Punch, Groundpound, Jump, Roll.
Captain Toad: Punch, Crouch, Spin Jump, Jump, Long Jump, Roll.
The Kongs have the same moves they do in Tropical Freeze.
Now for overall jump height.
- Captain Toad.
- Wario.
- Donkey Kong.
- Funky Kong.
- Diddy Kong.
- Dixie Kong.
2.Mario.
One. Luigi.
Yoshi. He could do his signature flutter jump, eat enemies, and spit out Koopa shells.
POW blocks. They go boom boom.
Tracks. They move things up and down and side to side.
Minecart Tracks. These were INSANELY hard in Donkey Kong Country, the would be a fun mechanic.
Baby Yoshi. You hold him and he can do things like fly, glow, or kill enemies.
Now for some entirely new mechanics:
Unlockable games. There would be seven in total to unlock: Donkey Kong, Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong Country 2, Wario Land 4, and New Super Mario Bros.
There would also be an arcade you could play at for coins. There would be ten game in total you could play: Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Mario Bros., Vs. Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3 (PlayChoice10), Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country 3, Mario Kart 64, Super Mario 64, Donkey Kong 64, and Yoshi's Island DS.
Lakitus that throw ? blocks that look like ? blocks, but are actually non-moving Spinys and will kill you.
Let me know of anymore mechanics that could fit.

2023.05.29 22:50 London-Roma-1980 NON CONFERENCE MATCHDAY 10 RESULTS
Strap in, everyone, because we have a long road ahead of us. In addition to the NINE games between Top 25 teams, FOUR upsets happened. That's right, the Top 25 was below .500 in its entirety today. So let's see how they did it.
*****
#1 UCLA 90, #9 Syracuse 79. The key to beating a 2-3 zone is to shoot over it. Fortunately for the Bruins, they can.
Reggie Miller had 25 points and led an onslaught that included 13 three-pointers as the Bruins (10-0) took out the Orange (8-2) to maintain their winning streak, now at 47 games and counting.
"The shots were falling tonight," Miller said after the game. "We got what we wanted in terms of looks, and we got them to go in."
In addition to Miller's 5 three-pointers, Russell Westbrook had 3, Kiki Vandeweghe had 2, and Gail Goodrich, Kevin Love, and Jrue Holiday each had one. Syracuse, for their part, shot well, with Carmelo Anthony hitting six threes on his own to get to 22 total points, but it wasn't enough.
"They're #1 for a reason," Orange coach Jim Boeheim said.
#8 Michigan 68, #4 Duke 61. The Power Five have been cracked.
Michigan's defense held Duke to 29% shooting and Juwan Howard led the way with 16 points as the Wolverines (9-1) stunned the Blue Devils (8-2) before a court-storming crowd at Michigan Court.
"This is why you play the game," Howard said amidst a crowd of fans. "We shook up the world tonight. We wanted this one. You beat Duke, you've done good!"
Grant Hill led the Devils with 13 points, but the entire team struggled.
"We were cold tonight," Hill said. "Props to Michigan; their defense smothered us. Not much you can do."
#3 Kentucky 67, #2 North Carolina 64. Who do you call on when you have everyone? Someone's bound to be open, and such was the case here.
Louie Dampier found Devin Booker in the corner as time expired, and the Wildcats (9-1) stunned the Tar Heels (8-2) to send them to their second last-second defeat of the non-conference season.
"We ran a pick and roll off the ball to get [Michael] Jordan off of me and get me open," Booker said, recounting the final play. "Louie knew where I was, he got the pass off after driving for the double... everything just fell into place."
Both teams turned up the defense in this one. Dan Issel led Kentucky with 15 points, while Jordan led North Carolina with 13. Outside shooting was particularly hard to go by, as Booker's winner was only the fifth three-pointer of the game combined.
"We did almost everything right," Tar Heels coach Dean Smith said after the game. "Almost."
#5 Kansas 75, #14 Arizona 59. The top teams have shown anyone can step up at any time. Kansas proved it tonight.
Kirk Hinrich caught fire, getting 20 points with five three-pointers, as the Jayhawks (9-1) knocked off the Wildcats (7-3) to produce a potential future matchup with Kentucky.
"We've been seeing how other teams have done," Hinrich said. "It's important we keep winning. We want that last one seed when the dust settles."
Mike Bibby had 15 points, but also committed 8 turnovers as JoJo White's defense proved to be too much for him.
"I had a bad day," Bibby admitted. "This loss is on me."
Arkansas 90, #23 Iowa 83. Are they going to be ranked now? It's not certain what else has to be done.
Joe Johnson went off for 24 points and the full-court pressure held Fred Brown to 5 points as the Razorbacks (8-2) pulled off their second straight top-25 upset, this time knocking off the Hawkeyes (7-3).
"We're just going to keep playing the way we're capable of and we'll be in good shape," Johnson said. "We got off to a slow start, but now we're showing the world what we're capable of."
Don Nelson led the Hawkeyes with 18 points.
#12 Connecticut 92, #21 Alabama 80. A quick rise to the top by the Tide made people wonder if the SEC would have a wild race. Now, it looks like this Tide is receding.
Andre Drummond had 19 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Huskies (8-2) to a big road win over the Tide (7-3) that may solidify them as favorites in the Big East.
"We had an advantage inside, and we knew we could use it," Huskies coach Jim Calhoun said after the game. "We needed this win, you know? A chance to show the Big East still goes through us."
Alabama attempted to turn up the pace against the big men of Connecticut, but Kemba Walker and Ray Allen were able to break the press on offense. On defense, super sub Richard Hamilton helped slow down the opposition, getting 4 steals in the second half.
Latrell Sprewell led the Tide with 18 points.
#9 Notre Dame 67, #17 DePaul 65, OT. Most of the game was a battle inside. But it was outside shooting from a very unlikely source that won the game.
John Paxson hit two three-pointers late in overtime to lead the Fighting Irish (8-2) to an overtime victory over the Blue Demons (7-3).
"All of our players can contribute," coach Digger Phelps told reporters after the game. "We hear a lot about Adrian Dantley and Bill Laimbeer, but we're a team of stars. We feel we can beat anyone."
With the game tied at 58 nearing the end of regulation, George Mikan looked to have won the game with a hook shot. However, before he could shoot, he was whistled for a three-second violation. Paxson's heroics in overtime then meant the difference.
"I lost track of time," a dejected Mikan said in the locker room. "I'm sorry, Blue Demon fans."
#25 Illinois 66, #19 Georgetown 56. Illinois coach Lou Henson wanted to focus on defense as much as offense. It's safe to say his team was ready to respond.
A focused effort held Allen Iverson scoreless on the day as the Illini (8-2) stunned the Hoyas (7-3) in a defensive struggle with neither team able to get open shots most of the day.
"That's what I was hoping for," Henson said after the game. "We wanted to get our defensive strength before we faced teams like Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota... I think today we showed we can win ugly as well as win beautifully."
Derek Harper, who led all scorers with 17 points, was the primary responsibility, but Iverson found himself constantly double-teamed with Donnie Freeman and Deron Williams. While Iverson did wind up with 9 assists, the shutout clearly bothered him, as he picked up a late technical foul arguing a no-call.
"We need to work on getting Allen involved more," Hoyas coach John Thompson admitted. "You can't just win inside in this game."
Cincinnati 81, #18 LSU 60. Maybe the adjustment from the AAC to the Big XII will be easier than we were led to believe.
Oscar Robertson had a triple-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists, while Jack Twyman had 21 points as the Bearcats (8-2) stunned everyone by trouncing the Tigers (7-3) in front of the Cats' home fans.
"That was an incredible win," Bearcats coach Ed Jucker said after the game. "They kept talking about their starting five, but today we showed you need a lot of depth to get anywhere. We got that depth and we got a chance to win it all. I hope Kansas is paying attention -- they're not sweeping us this season."
Defense also proved to be a big deal. Robertson and Nick Van Exel constantly switched off on Pete Maravich, holding the scoring machine to only 8 points on the day. Bob Pettit was able to take some advantage to score 17 points, but the Tigers had no help from the bench, as the Cats' bench outscored the Tigers' reserves 21-3.
"Gotta be more than the first five," center Shaquille O'Neal said after the game. "We can only do so much and if one of us is in trouble, we gotta get stepping up."
#15 Southern Cal 78, #16 Maryland 55. Don't sleep on the Trojans now. When they're going against teams in the second and third tier, they are deadly.
Bill Sharman led all scorers with 24 points as the Trojans (8-2) steamrolled the Terrapins (7-3) to make a statement about their goals for this season.
"We think we can steal a Final Four spot," coach Sam Barry said after the game. "Today proved we have the talent to do it. If the shots fall, we can beat anyone."
Gene Shue led the Terrapins with 13 points.
#6 Michigan State 61, #13 Texas 60. The Longhorns seem to be willing to live and die by Kevin Durant. The Spartans knew it when it mattered.
Draymond Green knocked away a pass intended for Durant on the final play of the game to preserve a victory for the Spartans (8-2) over the Longhorns (7-3) on the road in a critical matchup.
"We saw where they were going, we knew they had one big star and if we denied him, we didn't think anyone else could step up," Green said after the game. "I know how to beat Durant, we know how to win the game, and we're just that good."
Magic Johnson had 14 points and 7 assists to lead the Spartans. Durant, for his part, led all scorers with 21 points, but couldn't get the last two, as Avery Bradley's inbound was knocked away.
"Close isn't good enough in crunch time," Durant said to reporters.
NC State 74, #20 Minnesota 65. Last year, the Wolfpack were controversially sent to the NIT despite going 18-14 in the toughest schedule in the country. If they keep winning, they may take it out of the committee's hands when all is said and done.
JJ Hickson had 5 blocks of Kevin McHale on the day and David Thompson scored 20 as the Wolfpack (8-2) stunned the Golden Gophers (7-3) to pick up a road win.
"We deserve to be ranked, and we deserve to be in the [NIBL] tournament," Thompson said after the game. "We've said all year our goal is to be undeniable. If we qualify for selection, we're going to make sure they have to take us. That means winning a lot in non-con, and that's what we're doing."
With Thompson driving and causing collapses of the defense, the outside shooters also had their chances. Spud Webb and Tom Gugliotta hit three three-pointers each over the Gopher defense.
"This was a bad day," said McHale, who despite being blocked led the Gophers with 14 points.
Villanova 79, #24 UNLV 78. Villanova likes to play slower, while UNLV likes to speed it up. Villanova, it turned out, did just enough to keep the Rebels from getting the win.
Randy Foye had 20 points and Kyle Lowry blocked Ricky Sobers' last second putback attempt as the Wildcats (8-2) held off the Runnin' Rebels (6-4) to most likely knock the last mid-major out of the Top 25.
"Our backcourt carried this one," Villanova coach Jay Wright said after the game. "We wanted to show that Paul [Arizin] had backup, and that's what we were able to get. Everyone played their role, and we kept this team -- a very good offensive team -- to just enough to take the win.
On the final play, Sobers inbounded to leading scorer Shawn Marion (18 points). His three pointer was off the mark, and in the scramble, Sobers got the loose ball. He tried a quick shot to beat the horn, but Lowry was ready.

2023.05.29 22:46 gianah0513 VERSACE SELLS WORN DAMAGED ITEMS
BEWARE OF VERSACE! They sell WORN, DAMAGED items and they pass them to their clients as NEW! I bought 5 high end dresses from the Versace online store/website, I tried to return them and I was denied because the dresses were “damaged”. The dresses came from their stores in Las Vegas, Beverly Hills and New York (not brand new from their warehouse) where they were tried on, probably returned after other people wore them. The sales associates that mailed them to me didn’t bother to inspect them before they left the store, but they made sure they “inspected” them when they received them from me, at their warehouse, so they could reject them and blame me for something I didn’t do. I can’t be responsible for any damage that occurred before the items reached me!
I didn’t inspect the dresses when I received them because I didn’t think Versace would sell and send me something that is worn!!!! And I returned the items within 24 hours since I received them. I accidentally ordered a dress twice in the same size, so I couldn’t have even tried both dresses in the same size!
They wouldn’t give me details about the damage, they didn’t respond to my emails and they sent the dresses back to me. When I received and looked at them, I still can’t see the “damage” on 3 of the dresses. The other 2 dresses have very minor stitching issues that are consistent with normal wear and tear of items that are tried on in a store. That is a risk that the company takes when having items available to customers, in the store for
It is very disappointing that a company with the international reputation they claim to have will sell you items that are already worn, torn and damaged and try to blame you, the customer that buys them online.
This is unacceptable for a company of this caliber!
DON’T SPEND YOUR MONEY WITH THEM, don’t support a company whose policy is to sell worn items and pass them to their customers as brand new.

2023.05.29 22:28 Aisling_The_Sapphire Subnautica: The Definitive No-Spoilers Guide For New Players
Updated May 2023 I recently changed Reddit accounts and it's been about a year, so it seemed prudent to repost this for visibility. :)
https://subnauticamap.io/ - This is an interactive map of the crater. However, be warned that it will show the general location of things you need to find. This can be toggled but if you have zero point of reference for the places mentioned in this guide, this map should provide one.
General tips are at the bottom, however, they rely on you having played at least part of the way through the game so I don't recommend checking them until at least part 3, AKA "Going Traveling"
Subnautica is a game primarily about exploring your environment while overcoming the trepidation that the game sets up in you over doing so. Although there isn't a perfect guide to being able to clear the game, there also isn't an unambiguous path of progression for the player, either.
Consequently new players often find themselves at an impasse in terms of progression and where to go. The following is a no-nonsense, straight to the point guide on how to progress, but it's not a bible. You can do most of this just by exploring and wandering around.
A blind playthrough is critical to the first time player experience. This is often true of every game but for Subnautica it makes or breaks the whole story - you need to have no idea what the hell is going on the first time you clear the game. If you spoil it for yourself you will regret it, please believe me in this. This guide is meant to give you a nudge when you find you don't know where to go next, it's not really meant as a walkthrough, even though it can be used as one. Do yourself a favor friends, don't go wandering
/subnautica or the wiki too much and this guide will not lead you astray. It is written
specifically for brand new players.
The Beginning
When you first arrive on 4546b, you find yourself with basically nothing. You're hungry, thirsty, your lifepod is broken and your cookies are gone. The Aurora is burning (and you nearly did too) but despite all that, you're alive and this planet is about to get some Ryley in it.
The environment around you has most of what you need to get started. The metal scrap strewn around the shallows provides an easy source of Titanium while you can break limestone and sandstone to get the minerals you need for your starting tools. You'll want the quartz you find for glass.
Although you have a number of options for making equipment, at this stage I don't recommend using resources for the air pump or pipes. Truth is they don't really have much use; they create a breathing line from the surface for when you're diving, but they're expensive and there's better alternatives in your near future.
Once you have a scanner and knife, take the time to scan everything you can. All the local wildlife can be scanned and most of the flora.
Your objective at this point is to build a repair gun, knife, seaglide, flashlight and scanner. Branching Out
Now that you've got your basic tools and you can get around a little, it's time to begin exploring. At this point you've seen the deeper waters on the edges of the kelp forest.
It's time to go take a look.
The red grassy plains have what you need to progress to deeper waters. You'll want to explore the wrecks there.
There are four grassy plains surrounding the shallows at compass points and cave systems exist in three of them which will become relevant later, but are largely out of your reach for now. It is out here that you will find fragments necessary for an important task you must complete soon.
Raiding the aurora will require the laser cutter you learn to make here. You'll also want a propulsion cannon, which you can find the fragments to near the side of the Aurora. DO NOT GO AROUND THE BACK OF THE AURORA. SERIOUSLY. You are not prepared for that level of giggling insanity yet. By now you've fixed the radio
and may have triggered the sunbeam event, in which case you will want to go follow that. Give yourself the full span of time to go to the island and explore unless you'd prefer to explore after the event, but don't let yourself get distracted by what you find there and miss the ship arriving. The signals you've been getting are important prompts and need to be checked out when possible, so make sure you take the time to do that. Also, when you go to either island DO NOT PARK YOUR SEAMOTH NEAR THE BEACH.
DO NOT PARK YOUR SEAMOTH NEAR THE BEACH. There is a real risk of it phasing through the ground and becoming inaccessible and then you'll end up on this subreddit asking how to get it back like the other 5 guys a week. Seriously.
Also note that bringing an ion cube to the top of the mountains caves will let you do something interesting up there, but I won't be specific. A scanner room at this spot is ideal not just to
track the reaper leviathan on the eastern side of the island but there is quite a lot of shale and lithium here as well, which is probably something you're gonna want.
Going traveling
At this point you should have a seamoth, your basic tools, a laser cutter, propulsion cannon and lead suit. You are prepared. It's time to go to the Aurora... but only if you've gotten the communication from Alterra with the captains door code. Otherwise, you must wait for that radio event. You can go explore the ship anyways of course, but not having the code means you can't get into the captains room, requiring you to go back and get it later. So it's up to you. You can open the door anyways if you get the code off the internet or something but since the game gives it to you anyways, you can always wait for the prompt.
If not, the door code is 2679 If you have a cyclops I don't recommend taking it, since reapers hang out at the front and back ends of the ship. However, a seamoth is small enough to fit through the broken superstructure of the ship at the front and thus avoid this danger. There are two ways to access the ship and although it seems impossible, you CAN in fact climb up to access the open one. Otherwise, you can use the prop cannon to move the debris out of the way of the door near water level. Be sure to take the time to explore inside and use the carry-all bags to leave stuff you want to keep from the ship out the front so you can come back and pick it all up later. There's lots of useful stuff in there.
As a side note here, the leech-like things that annoy you in the reactor room are called Bleeders. I hate Bleeders personally, but I noted that if you grab one with the propulsion cannon and fling it into the wall
out of sheer spite then other bleeders will be attracted to the body, which makes grabbing and doing the same to them quite easy. Clearing the entire room of those little #*(
[email protected]'s only takes a couple minutes.
You can get the codes for various rooms inside from the PDA's you find. Also note that some doors can only be opened once you repair them. Sometimes the Aurora glitches and these repair sections don't work but because the ship has two entrances, you can always go around the back to clear the whole thing, which is... annoying. If you don't mind being patient, leaving the Aurora and doing other things for awhile will reset the wreck, allowing you to come back later and potentially be able to repair the doors then.
The codes for the ship are:
Cabin No. 1: 1869 Captain's Quarters: 2679 Cargo Bay: 1454 Lab Access: 6483 Time to go down
With the Aurora repaired you have the ability to wear things other than the lead suit, so it's time to chuck that in the trash 'cuz you won't need it again. It's time to get the outer wrecks in the zones beyond the shallows and
hoo boy ain't that gonna be an experience.
The cyclops is your friend here. But what's this, you don't have a cyclops? Well, that's okay. You may have found one of the engine fragments on the aurora in the cargo bay but if you missed it, it's not really a big deal. Your next objective to build one is to go explore
mushroom forest and the underwater floating islands for the fragments you'll need. If you've been following your radio signals you've probably been to the aurora rendezvous point by now, but if not, take the time to go thoroughly explore that island. One of the PDAs you need to find the next place is
not at the degasi base, but on one of the paths of the island near an arch of rock. You'll need to explore the island thoroughly to find it. Make sure to scan everything and bring back plant samples if you have a seabase.
You can use plant pots to keep food trees on your cyclops for easy access to food without worrying about curing everything all the time. Once you have the cyclops, you need to take the time to upgrade your seamoth to depth so you can explore the various wrecks, supplement your PDA database and establish yourself properly for long-term operations. At this point in the game you should be aiming for or already have:
A seabase, even a basic one. A couple corridors with lockers are invaluable for storage and operations and the scanner room is MISSION CRITICAL. If you haven't built one yet, get on that! A seamoth, either at or being upgraded to 500m depth Knife, flashlight, repair gun, seaglide, scanner, laser cutter, propulsion or repulsion cannon, rebreather Be sure to check everything, then check it again! It's easy to miss things on the island. Be sure to check the buildings on the tops of the hills there too. Although it would be nice to be able to plant land beacons (hint hint, Unknown Worlds), it's not feasible for marking out
the precursor gate on the floating island so unfortunately, it's not of much use unless you have your base on one island or the other. I don't recommend the floating island for this for reasons which will become apparent later in the game.
Looking into the abyss
If you've explored most of or all of the wrecks and no longer have missing technology, it's time to go deeper. If you've been following your PDA signals you need to check out the degasi bases and follow their story, as they lead you to a large, deep cave which is the path to deeper places you need to explore.
There are several inlets to the place you need to reach.
Northern Bulb Zone where it meets Mountains has a large entrance. Blood Kelp Zone and Trench both have entrances. The last one is in deep grand reef, where the final Degasi base is. I personally recommend either
Deep Grand Reef or
Bulb Zone but the latter has the most accessibility.
Raiding the final Degasi Base before exploring this cave system will get you
the orange precursor key which you'll need to access something hidden at
the southern end of the caves near blood kelp trench's entrance. While working down here I strongly recommend making liberal use of beacons as navigational guides if you're new to this place. It is VERY confusing and looks very same-y if you haven't spend a lot of time here.
Deep inside the caves you'll come upon a chamber with a massive skull sitting on a chunk of land in the middle and access to a slightly lower part of the cave system which is
not green. This is the
Cove Tree Cave and the brine there will not hurt you the way the green brine does. This leaves you able to free dive there to gather materials without needing to rely on your prawn.
This chamber with the skull is, in fact, the central chamber of Lost River. It is an excellent place for building a scanner station and the entire area is ludicrously rich in resources. It's a perfect place to stock up and catch up any upgrades, tools or devices you may be lacking so far. You'll want the resource stocks for later and honestly, it's just a really cool place to have a base in general.
The
Disease Research Facility is in the north-eastern arm of Lost River, accessible through the
Bulb Zone entrance. A juvenile ghost leviathan guards the path but as with most leviathans, operating in silent running and staying above or below it while sticking to the cave walls will get you by without any issue. If they do notice you, just pop a decoy, go full speed for about 5-8 seconds and then drop the engine to low and stay in silent running until you get far enough for the big ugly to stop bothering you.
The southern part of Lost River holds a large chamber with a
ghost leviathan juvenile and houses another rather large skeleton. This area in particular is rich in large ore deposits and
crystallized sulfur that you'll be needing for some big upgrades.
By the way, remember the cyclops shield? By now you're probably noticing that using the auxiliary functions on the cyclops eats a lot of power. Redundant power cells are your friend and if you feel you're worried about power costs while exploring, you lose nothing by having a buttload of spare power cells. It can pay off, being able to spam the shield for awhile and run away.
You'll want that shield for what's coming next.
Once More Unto The Deep
By now you've probably explored Lost River a bit and you're wondering where to go from here. If you've built a scanner room in the central chamber, you'll have noticed that the scanner, when at full range, shows a chamber below Lost River.
This is the inactive lava zone and it is here your answers lay.
You have two access points to reach this chamber. The
North-east arm past the
disease research facility and the
cove tree caves. Both entrances are equally difficult to get through but the first one feels more open, if you don't mind the ghost leviathan circling around above the opening.
This chamber is rich with even more valuable resources, if you somehow haven't got enough already. The
cove tree cave entrance leads to the western part of the ILZ chamber. The
North-east entrance leads to the north edge of the chamber. The chamber itself is rather oval-shaped, with the western edge of it relatively empty and the eastern part containing a massive lava bubble.
If you wander around down here long enough the PDA will prompt you to take a look at that bubble a bit more closely.
You will need two purple precursor keys to access the facility inside. Now that you're down here you'll notice there's a fair number of warpers, crimson rays (who are harmless) and leech-like things which will attach to the hull of your ship and drain power. That sounds like a problem, doesn't it?
Don't worry though, we got you covered. Once you're down here, go grab some kyanite and you can build the
cyclops thermal reactor which pretty much eliminates the whole running out of power problem. The shield is a great way to
get the leeches off your hull at the same time.
As for the leviathan,
the sea dragon isn't actually a whole lot of threat. It might spit fire at you and is capable of picking up and biting the prawn but will mostly ignore you if you don't go hanging out in front of it.
With that said, treat it like any other leviathan while in the cyclops. Drive slow, keep an eye on it and if it gets curious, drop a decoy and move away ASAP. Cutting your engines once you've gotten a little distance will almost always make them lose interest.
But Wait, There's More!
If you've explored the inner depths of the lava bubble, then
you have the blue key, ion battery plans and have opened the portal to the QEP. Great! Now coming down here in the prawn isn't a big deal and you don't have to drive the cyclops all the way down here to go grab resources. A small scanner base down here would be great for quickly finding what you need.
As you can probably guess, there's an even deeper chamber than this, which is the active lava zone. You can find the entrance by following the lava flows around the ILZ and keeping an eye on the floor. You'll find a large space big enough for the cyclops to lower down into.
Down here you'll find 2 sea dragons to avoid, so don't you get conservative with your power. By now you'll probably have built ion power cells and those can run your shield and sonar together for a full 5 minutes with silent running going so don't be shy about using them!
Getting into the
alien base down here will require
two blue keys, one for accessing the facility, the other for accessing the inner facility. It is here you will find the
ion cube fabricator which requires the prawn. You can use this to
open the warp gates in the facility.
Six ion cubes in total are required for this. Four for the warp gates on the upper floor and two in the Sea Emperors tank. One of these leads back to the upper floor, if you find you're struggling to get back out. This gate in particular is about halfway up the tank at the back and sits on a large ledge. An ion cube is provided to activate it, giving you a way to walk out of the tank if you find you're struggling to get out.
And... that's pretty much it, really. After that encounter you'll know where to go and what to do. The paths laid out for you in
the final facility lead you to the places you need to go to find the things you require.
Tips and tricks
- Keep floaters in your cyclops. When you're operating above 500m, running out of power, floaters will allow you to passively bring your ship to the surface without power expense so that you can resupply it. This is pretty much a last ditch move but it never hurts to be prepared.
- You can fit up to 8 basic plant pots in an observatory, which will grant you twice the amount of growing space as an indoor grow bed for the same amount of floor space while also making the crops more easily accessible.
- The engine comparment of the cyclops has a lower deck behind the vehicle bay which everybody ignores, but it's a great spot for plant shelves and marble melons for food security.
- Load your vehicles. Dedicate storage in them to supplies. Water, food, medkits, beacons, flares (bonesharks and crabsquids react to them) and spare power supplies for the vehicles. Keep this kit supplied and you will never be caught unprepared for an 'oh crap' situation.
- Okay, so you don't want to give up inventory space for your vehicles. The next best thing is then to fill a watertight locker or two with food, water, medpacks and maybe a couple spare batteries and power cells, then drop them someplace with a beacon next to them. Do this a dozen times in random spots around the map as you travel and now you have emergency caches you can access if you get into trouble.
- When you reach the point where materials gathering is easy, consider creating vehicle-creation drop points. 2-3 spots on the map with a mobile vehicle bay, a couple lockers with everything you need for a new seamoth and some basic supplies. If you lose your vehicle, it's a lot easier to make a replacement and get the mats than to get the mats to make a replacement.
- The propulsion gun is your friend. Use it to grab items to pick up, use it to grab cave crawlers and yeet them into low orbit, use it to pick up rocks and fling them at things you particularly don't like. Use it to collect gas pods from gasopods without getting hit by the cloud. Use it to move debris in wrecks. Bring a spare battery specifically for it because flinging things around uses a lot of power but the sheer utility of the tool makes it worth the cost.
- You'll be tempted to deck your seamoth out with all the toys but the truth is once you have the prawn, it's obsolete. Don't fall into the temptation of continuing to build tons of upgrades for it unless you plan to use it for a fast-fetch vehicle for things you need from far away. However, with that said, the seamoth is really the superior vehicle for wreck-diving.
- Keeping a second air tank in your inventory and swapping them mid-dive is a perfectly viable option. However, the tanks only refill when wearing them, so make sure to switch again once you're back in breathing space. This can and will save you when wreck diving and two ultra high quality tanks equals 450 seconds of air in total, or 7m30s of air.
- Speaking of air, you can use the air bladders alternate use key (F on PC - the same button for self-scanning) to get a few seconds of air out of it into your tank. It's not much - 20 seconds or so - but sometimes, that little bit extra can save your life if you're just out of reach of your vehicle.
- You can collect flora and fauna samples as you progress through the game and have a garden base specifically for growing plant samples from around the crater. Obviously this looks really nice (creepvine in an alien tank under the floor provides the room in your base with a nice golden glow) but is also useful later.
- SCANNER ROOMS. SERIOUSLY PEOPLE. If you're struggling to find the magnetite, go to Jellyshroom. If you're struggling to find Jellyshroom, always remember that lifepod 17 is directly next to one of its exit points. The range upgrades are incredibly important and the HUD chip makes the whole thing work.
- Farm supplies! You don't need to work or power anything to grow crops. Consider dropping a foundation with some growbeds, a beacon and your farmables (gel sack, creepvine seeds, creepvine samples, acid mushroom, blood oil and deepshrooms). Now you can stock up on things like batteries, rubber, lubricant, benzene, polyaniline. Keep a few of these crops in your cyclops for planting in new spots and never run out of the stuff you need while keeping your home base nice and lag free.
- Creature decoys can be deployed both by hand and by prawn propulsion arm, which lets you pull items out of your inventory to 'throw'. You can also do this with the propulsion cannon by using the F key (the alternate tool use button, the same one you use to self-scan, for all you console folks).
- Turning off your engines greatly reduces the chance of a leviathan damaging the cyclops, even if it's right on top of you. Moving is what gets their attention. If one is swimming near the sub, cut all engines and just wait patiently for it to get a little distance, then silent running and max speed for a few seconds. Pop a decoy for good measure if you want to make absolutely sure.
- You can access the right side of the Aurora relatively safely by going south to Crag Zone and then banking east into the deeper parts of crash zone. Most of the reapers are up by the ship, sticking to the bottom will keep you relatively safe and net you as much titanium as you will ever need.
- Blood kelp zone, the sea treader wreck and the meteor crater in Dunes all have secrets that you may find interesting.
- Remember the Bleeders in the reactor room of the Aurora? Bring a grav trap along - they're cheap, it's disposable - and enter through the top door by climbing along the wreckage up there. Pop the grav trap in the reactor room and kill one of them with the propulsion cannon - the others will come for the body and be stuck in the trap, making picking them off much, much easier than it would be trying to find them all individually. You can just leave the trap behind. If you have the stasis gun, you can wait for them to stack up in the grav trap, stun them, then drop gas pods amidst the several bleeders and watch them get bodied.
- Gas pods 'o doom also work against leviathans. They work against EVERYTHING. You just need a lot of them, but getting a lot of them is really easy with the propulsion cannon (which can fire them too, by the way).
- Reefback barnacles are a good source of copper and silver, but beware the tiger plants on their backs. If you have a reinforced dive suit, tiger plants can't hurt you, but without one they're a pain. You can yeet them with the propulsion cannon. That trick works for drooping stingers too.
- Beacons everywhere. No seriously, everywhere. You'd be amazed how few people use them as much as they ought to be used.
- Eastern red grass plains has deep caves with a type of plant which can only be found in a few select spots on the map. Bulb Zone's lifepod has caves with some nearby and the Dunes also has some, but a Reaper is guarding them. If you do manage to find the spot though, it's GREAT for rubies!
- Scanner room cameras are a good way to keep track of nearby leviathans. They also force the terrain to load, which is required for the scanner room to actually pick things up. Stalkers will snag the cameras and move them around, but they're pretty useful for quickly getting the scanner room working right. The wildlife ignores the cameras too, so if you want a really nice picture of some creature you really hate getting close to, they're a great way to get it.
- Breed some stalkers, release them outside your base next to a pile of metal scrap and never worry about finding teeth for glass again. Barring that? Drop a random beacon in the kelp forest and wait for a stalker to collect it, follow it back to their stash and drop a grav trap.
- Light sticks can be good for wreck diving, as are flares. Flares provide much better lighting in large open spaces than the flashlight or seaglide. It makes them a good alternative to the flashlight in the early game.
DO NOT PARK YOUR SEAMOTH NEAR THE BEACHES. DO NOT PARK YOUR SEAMOTH NEAR THE BEACHES. DO NOT PARK YOUR SEAMOTH NEAR THE BEACHES.

2023.05.29 22:14 Litzip0d I reported sexual harassment, and the person retaliated by falsely accusing me of racism. Now idk what to do.
So. In full length, this is a VERY long story, so I will try to condense it, while keeping all detail and context intact.
I (30 f) have been with my company for 3 years. 2 years ago, the person in question started at my company. I was their trainer. We got along great, worked well together, and all seemed good. This was, until we both went for the same promotion. At this point, I had more experience, more prior training, and and more skills specific to the departments needs, so I was chosen. This enraged the other person. Within a week, I got a phone call from HR stating that I was the subject of an internal investigation. I was confused as I had not had any negative interactions with anyone, and I make it a conscious effort to treat everyone politely, and respectfully, so nothing could have prepared me for the rest of the call. HR had told me that it had been reported to them that I was engaging in racist behavior. They asked if I knew what they were referring to. I responded no, and that engaging in any such behavior is a complete deviation of my values as a person. I asked for more details, asking if there were any sort of micro aggressions reported, maybe something I didn't give a second thought to at the time. I wanted to make sure there wasn't some sort of internal bias from me that I wasn't previously aware of, so that I could address it, and take meaningful action to never do so again. That's when they told me that the specific claim is that I screamed in X persons face, and called them a racial slur. To say I was shocked and appalled would be an understatement! I responded with: "Oh my God, no! Never! That's horrible!" When this started I had thought that maybe something I never interpreted as offensive actually was, but the specific word that was mentioned has NEVER come out of my mouth, and it never would (I only don't include it for privacy reasons. And I just feel gross even typing out words like that).
Eventually, everything calmed down, and nothing came of it. Time went on, we all moved on. I kept my distance from this person, not wanting to make things worse. Eventually, this person reached out to me, and wanted to talk. I hesitantly agreed. We talked. They said that so many people were coming up to them amd telling them that I was saying these things, so "what were they supposed to believe". I knew that was a lie, because the claim was that I said it to this very person, but I didn't want to push the issue, and insight another incident, so I let it go. We got back on good terms, but the relationship was never the same. They started making comments here and there. Little things like "you look nice today" evolved into "you look better with your sweater off." I let the first comment go, giving them the benefit of the doubt since they had never said anything like that before, I chalked it up to a momentary slip, and quickly forgot about it. These comments soon became more frequent, until it became multiple times a day every day they would come to my desk. Start talking about weight loss, movies, tv shows, and find sneaky ways to segue into flirtatious comments.
I thought about reporting, but because of the previous incident, and the fact that I am the sole income in my house currently, I kept quiet. I just kept deflecting. They started making comments after losing a lot of weight about how hot they look now, and asking that if we were both single, would they have a chance. Again, I kept deflecting. Finding ways to change the subject, or reasons to go somewhere else. One day they just wouldn't stop. "Come on, come on tell me. Tell me. Tell me tell me tell me tell me. I would, wouldn't I? Come on." It just wouldn't stop! Finally I said "yeah sure, if we were single maybe". And I walked away. I was hoping that he would be satisfied with that, and move on. I was wrong... Fast forward a year, and I've been dealing with this every single day. Deflecting, skirting around the subject, finding reasons to leave. I'm in line for another promotion, and don't want to make any waves.... they are also going for this promotion. We were both up for it 6 months ago. Neither one of us got it, but I did make it to the top two, whereas they didn't get past the first interview. The chance will be up again in a few months, so I've been preparing, and working on my leadership skills. Last week, I couldn't take it anymore. This person came to my desk, as per usual, and started their normal crap. (I should include that aside from the sexual comments, they also make little comments trying to put distrust between me, and my partner in my position, who actually ended up stepping down due to it.) This day in particular struck me. They started saying things like "I love you" when I found an item of theirs they had dropped in the building and returned it to them, and started calling me by the same pet name my long-term romantic partner calls me. That was enough for me. I said: "Look, I'm really not interested." They eyed me up amd down, smirked, and said: "yes you are. You told me before. We both know you are so stop denying it." That's when another co-worker approached, needing help with something, so the person took off. I told the co-worker what had just happened, and they told me I need to report. I immediately went to both my supervisor and theirs, and told them both what happened. I actually started crying because I felt so stuck. They know what happened last time, and I expressed to them my fear of retaliation. They decided to remove the person from the area, and give them a different assignment. The supes asked if I wanted to write a statement, and I said that I wasn't sure. They suggested seeing if the person came back to the area when they shouldn't and gave me time to decide." The person did come back. They started complaining to me about another employees work (an unrelated quality issue) and that that must be the reason they were taken out. I said "I don't know. I haven't heard anything." And they left. I told the supervisors about that too. Later in the day, the person somehow found out that I had talked to the supervisors. I had not yet written anything down, but another employee (a friend of mine, in the same department as this person) told me that they asked her to find out if it was me, and that: "If that bitch is trying to start trouble, I'm gonna get my girl to come down here and beat her ass". That's when I decided enough was enough. I was done being afraid, and I was NOT going to be threatened for daring to have a harassment-free work environment! I wrote a statement. It was multiple pages long. Dates, times, locations, the works. Unfortunately, witnesses were few, as this person always waited until I was alone. However, I have a camera above my desk, so I figured that would be enough. The friend of mine, and the employee I had told previously both also wrote statements. Fast forward to the past two days... the co worker who I had initially told about the incident in question came to me, and told me that the person came to him and told him that I called them a racial slur. That I'm racist and to watch out for me. My fears were confirmed, it's starting again. Only this time, they're not going to HR. Instead, this person is going around to our 900+ employees, and spreading this around in a direct attempt to destroy my reputation in the building. I have been documenting and reporting everything. Collectively, between me and other employees, 6 reports were filed within 2 days against this person. HR has not answered my requests for a meeting. Last night, my supervisor pulled me into the office. He told me "I don't want any drama tonight". He then proceeded to coach me on "being careful about what I say" and that he's "not saying I've been talking, but a lot of people are talking about the situation, so it's coming from somewhere." Like... yeah. It's coming from the other person slandering me.
I've just had enough... I've been harassed every day for a year and a half, and when I finally take a stand, I'm met with threats, slander, and ostracization from my peers. Then I'm punished for the aggressors' behavior!
I just don't know what to do... I have put in so much time, dedication, and outside efforts into climbing the ladder in this company, and yet I am not protected. I have no one in my corner, and this person just gets to walk around happy as a clam. What should I do?

2023.05.29 22:05 throwawaySomeEye Is Co-Parenting with my Brother "weird"?
Quick backstory.
Shortly after my first wife and I filed for divorce, she found out she was 5 months pregnant. I was willing to stop the divorce proceedings and stay together for our son and the new baby but she refused and told me she did not want to keep the baby. She didn’t want an abortion but she wanted me to have full custody of our unborn daughter or to put her up for adoption. While this hurt at first, I did come to understand her decision. We were both in our late 30s and raising a baby was not ideal. She only ever wanted one child but I wanted more. We had an 10 year old son who we decided to share 50/50 custody of, and she rented a place 15 minutes from me, as I kept the house since it would provide more room for the baby. We moved most of her stuff to her new apartment but continued to live together until my daughter was born just incase of any complications. Being a single dad to a newborn was challenging but thankfully my childhood best friend moved in with me to help out with my daughter and keep the house together so i could go back to working full-time. When I was around 8 my mother used to cook meals and sweets for families in need and bring me along with her, which is where we met and I quickly discovered he was being pretty badly abused by his father and older brother, he was around 6 at the time. My parents and I tried to do as much as we could but the system where we lived was pretty shit. When we were about 15 and 17 the abuse got so bad that he moved into my house and my parents essentially adopted him. All this to say, he’s my brother more so than he is my best friend. We lived together through college and our twenties too so him moving in to help out just felt like the natural thing to do. And he’s been just as much a father to her as I’ve been, considering he’s home with the kids 24/7 since I work a full-time job. My ex-wife got a lot of shit for “abandoning” our daughter and I got a lot of shit from family (not my parents) for not pursuing other women so that I didn’t have to be a single father. This never mattered to me because my brother and I had it covered. I wasn’t opposed to dating eventually but my main focus was my daughter and helping my son through this transitional phase of our lives. Well it just so happened that when my daughter was about 18 months I met the most amazing woman through my job. She was beautiful, intelligent, and one of the strongest people I’ve ever met. She hit it off with my brother, my son, and my daughter almost instantly. We ended up getting married when my daughter was around 3. She even gets along with my ex-wife, who happily signed away her parental rights so that my wife could adopt my daughter. Today my son is 23, my daughter is 13, and I have another son (8) and a daughter (5) from my wife. We couldn’t be happier. She’s the love of my life and I love our family more than anything. My wife and I both work full time jobs, and her hours can run past 7 PM at times. Neither of us have much energy to cook or clean when we get home. My brother works from home so he’s able to pick the kids up from school, take them to their extracurriculars, and prepare dinner before we even get home. We are so incredibly grateful for him and everything he’s done for us and probably would not have had our youngest son if we didn’t have him around. He really enjoys being with the kids and never intends to have a family of his own (he’s asexual) so he loves being a part of ours. He’s especially close with my oldest daughter, who he views more like a daughter of his own, since he was her primary caretaker for the first 3 years of her life, and has a close bond with my eldest son as well. Friends of my wife think its weird that my brother still lives with us and think my son should step up and help out now that he’s old enough to. 1. I disagree because it is not my sons job to care for the children my wife and I chose to have. He loves his siblings and of course is cool with watching them at times but i would never deny him his freedom to put him in charge of household duties he never signed up for. He’s in his early 20s and should be focused on finishing college, figuring out what he wants to do with his life, and having fun with his friends. If he wants to go on a trip or to the movies or wherever, he should have the right to do that and not have to worry about his younger siblings. 2. My brother is happy to take on the childcare and many household chores. In return, we don’t make him pay rent or any of the bills, even though he insists. He pays for groceries but in my opinion, I’m basically getting around the clock free child care and meals and that evens out the score plenty. On my days off, I do all the cooking and cleaning so he can have a break, or we’ll order out, vice versa with my wife. And if he has something he absolutely can’t miss, my ex-wife is usually able to pick up all 3 kids or I can ask a friend to do so. The other argument they use is that my wife must hate having another man in the house, even though my wife has repeatedly told them this is not the case. Obviously if my wife had a problem with moving in with me and my brother I would have made other arrangements before asking her to marry me in the first place. My wife and my brother get along great and have become really close friends. I would never want to separate my brother and my daughter because in my eyes he is her third parent. Yes my wife is the one who adopted her but she wasn't the one who bonded with her when she was a newborn. People have always seemed to think our family dynamic was strange. I get that it’s a bit unusual but I don’t see anything wrong with it. It works for us and most importantly, my kids are happy, safe, and cared for. I know I shouldn’t let it irritate me so much but I see women move in with their daughters and sisters to help out with their kids all the time, so why is my brother moving in to help out me and my wife such a hard thing for some people to wrap their heads around.

2023.05.29 21:50 MeraboAt Headphone Tips: 5 Ways to Increase Sound Quality
| Bluetooth Headphones If you are an audiophile then you understand the importance of sound. Especially when it comes to entertainment like music, movies or games, you cannot compromise on the audio quality. Your favorite song should sound like it is supposed to sound and you should be able to immerse in your favorite movie or show! You do not want distorted sounds, full of lag or something that is way off when it comes to bass or treble. And just like any other audiophile would also tell you - in order to enjoy your music to the fullest, you need to invest in the right headphones. While sound quality can be quite relative, you should be able to experience the calming and soothing effect of music. While getting the right type of headphones is important, you also need to be aware of a few things you can do to make your earphones sound better. It doesn’t matter whether you have wired headphones or wireless ones, go through the following list of tips and tricks that will help you increase the sound quality of your earphones: 1. Switch to richer music streaming apps How your music will sound also depends on the streaming app that you are using to listen to your songs or podcast. While apps like Spotify, Amazon Prime music, Airtel music or saavan are some of the most common online music platforms - your favorite song might sound different when you stream them from different apps. These apps definitely do offer a wide range of podcasts or music options to listen from but they don’t focus on quality of sound a lot. There are some apps like Google Music, and Deezer, among others that let you stream/download high-quality music such as those with high bit-rate i.e 320kbps. 2. Check EQ settings We all respond to music differently. For example - some people really enjoy bass while others prefer high treble. It is also evident from the fact that all of us have different taste in music. Some people enjoy jazz, while others enjoy rock. Some people will go for neutral tones while others enjoy balanced or high notes. The thing that you need to understand here is that every earbud (regardless of it being of a wireless headphones or wired ones), has an EQ console that lets users either go for a factory-made or original setting or change it as per their liking. You can lay around the EQ consoles tweaking frequencies at various decibels to get the performance sound quality. Again, the settings you set may be best per your liking and not for someone you want to share music with. But hey, that’s okay since it is you trying to get the best sound out of your buds and EQ settings lets you do that one thing that matters to you the most – get better sound quality on the buds. 3. Clean This is one of the most basic etiquettes of using any device. You put your bluetooth headsets inside or on your ears for long hours. And then you throw them in your bags or pockets and reuse them just like that. This is not healthy. When you wear bluetooth earphones or earbuds, natural oils and earwax get accumulated on them. Apart from looking gross, the wax and other debris obstruct the sound coming from the buds or earphones. It can be one of the reasons why you would feel a deterioration in sound quality. So clean your earbuds using a soft cloth every now and then. 4. Find a quiet space for you to enjoy music This comes as a no-brainer. It doesn’t matter what the headphone price is, they will always sound better when there is less ambient noise to distract you. Of course, you cannot always choose to be in a quieter environment - imagine airports, bus stops, metro trains or even your office but you have this option at home. Especially if your earphones do not support noise cancellation, you need to choose a quieter environment. Otherwise you will keep on increasing the volume of your headset without any prominent difference. Another way to tackle this is to invest in noise cancelling headphones only. They smartly omit out the unwanted noises and allow you to clearly hear and be heard. 5. Find the right ear tip Finding the right ear tip that snuggly fits into your ear cavity is important for you to enjoy a great audio experience. Most in-ear bluetooth headsets come with multiple sizes of ear tips that you can change and find the perfect fit for yourself. The idea is simple - better fit = better music. A well fitted ear tip will form a seal and allow less disturbance to reach your ears. There are multiple other things that you can do to enhance the sound quality of your favorite bluetooth headphones but even if you follow the above mentioned ones religiously, you will be in a good place. submitted by MeraboAt to u/MeraboAt [link] [comments] |
2023.05.29 21:41 Key-Win7744 Your thoughts on "Peter Pan" (1953)
https://preview.redd.it/5e4hpcll7v2b1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cb730a1ff63a250d6167d2e3a416c85bc1a5fc4c Overview As with most of Disney's post-War projects,
Peter Pan had actually been in the works, in one form or another, for quite a long time. Disney had purchased the film rights to the story all the way back in 1938, but World War II happened, and Disney's animated projects were set back almost a decade. As only the second cinema adaptation of the story (the first was a 1924 silent film which stayed largely faithful to J.M. Barrie's original play), Disney was the first entity to really put its own spin on Peter and Neverland.
Point by Point - We open on the bustling Darling household in London, with Mr. and Mrs. Darling preparing for a night out amidst the chaos of John and Michael playing pirates in the nursery. Mr. Darling, despite being the heavy (or perhaps because of that), is a rich font of comedy. Incidentally, in performances of J.M. Barrie's play, it's considered traditional for the roles of Mr. Darling and Captain Hook to be played by the same actor. I think it's neat that Disney carried that tradition over.
- Peter Pan's entry as a spritely, agile figure on the Darling's shadowy rooftop, to the accompaniment of flute music, is a good one, presenting him as sort of mysterious and enigmatic. This is likely also the first time in Peter Pan's history that Tinker Bell had been portrayed as something more than just a blob of light. Being able to see her facial expressions and read her body language really adds a lot of depth to her character. Barrie's play tells us that Tinker Bell is angry and jealous of Wendy, but this movie shows us.
- Peter and the children flying through the night sky over London, to the tune of 'You Can Fly!', is one of the best parts of the movie, I think. Tinker Bell deliberately skips through Wendy's reflection in the river. It's adorable watching her be such a pouty little bitch.
- Something odd that I noticed this time. As we meet the pirates for the first time, they're throwing knives idly at a crude drawing on the wall labeled "The Cap'n". Thing is, the drawing has two hands. Why would the pirates draw The Cap'n with two hands?
- Captain Hook is a colorful, flamboyant villain; cowardly, but stylish; a memorable addition to the pantheon of Disney antagonists. His obsession with Peter Pan is made all the clearer by the evident dissatisfaction of his crew; they're sick of hanging around in Neverland and want to go to sea, but Hook is dead set on defeating Pan first.
- Peter Pan really does act like a boy. He's not an adult character disguised as a child, he genuinely is a child. Take his behavior at Mermaid Lagoon, for example. He flies down there by himself and immediately begins bragging to the mermaids about his adventures, leaving Wendy to climb awkwardly down. Then, when the mermaids attack Wendy, he just laughs. He intervenes only when it looks as though Wendy is about to brain one of them with a conch shell. Point is, he's not particularly chivalrous or considerate. He's just a kid.
- This is followed by a pretty good sequence showcasing the seething antagonism between Peter and Hook. With both action and comedy, Peter rescues Tiger Lily and Hook almost ends up as Crocodile food.
- The Indians are unflattering racial caricatures, there's no denying that. They're buffoonish, mostly ugly, wild in every sense of the word, and they're as red as fire engines. But, when all's said and done, they aren't really meant to be accurate depictions of Native Americans. Neverland, as conceived by J.M. Barrie, is a fantasyland for boys, full of things that boys back then were enamored of. To young boys in Barrie's time, Indians weren't disenfranchised victims of colonialism and genocide; they represented adventure and independence and the great outdoors. Mom and Dad got you down? Run away and live with the Indians! I'm not saying that their portrayal in this film is justified; just that there's a certain context to it.
- In the play, Tinker Bell saves Peter's life by drinking poison, then is revived by the heartfelt applause of the audience. But you can't really do that with a movie. So here the glass of poison is replaced with a time bomb, which Tinker Bell carries out of Peter's hands just in time. Tinker Bell is weakened by the explosion, but is able to regain her strength.
- The battle on the pirate ship is quite the exciting finale, especially when Peter and Hook duel up in the rigging. Of course, Peter defeats Hook, after which Hook begs for mercy. Peter grants said mercy, only for Hook to try and literally stab him in the back. This moment of the hero's mercy being thrown back in his face recurs in later Disney features such as Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Tarzan. The moral of the story seems clear; never show your enemy mercy.
- In the play, Peter and his friends use the pirate ship to sail the seas back to London. In this movie, Tinker Bell drenches the whole damn ship with pixie dust, and they fly it back to London. An extravagant tweaking of the original material, which is Disney's specialty.
In Conclusion Another triumphant adaptation by Disney. It doesn't do anything new on the technical side of things, and the song catalog is a bit weak, but it's full of fun and adventure and colorful characters. For now I'm going to stick it between
Alice in Wonderland and
Dumbo.
Current Ranking - Pinocchio
- Bambi
- Cinderella
- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
- Alice in Wonderland
- Peter Pan
- Dumbo

2023.05.29 21:19 szupresszor 20[M4F] Romania/Anywhere - In the searching of a beautiful soul to start a journey together.
Hello there. I am a 20 years old guy from Romania, Europe. Lately I felt lonely and I decided to try my shot here trying to find someone truly special to share my days with. Currently I am working a full time job and I live alone in my appartment. I am looking for someone to starts things slowly, not rushing it. I would like to talk about our daily routine, work/school, share our days about what happened or how we feel or any random topic we have in our mind. I am open to a long distance relationship. I enjoy videocalls and voicecalls aswell.
Some infos about my personality:
I am an introverted, shy and emotional. As a person I am caring, loving and protective and I give all my attention to the loved ones to make sure they feel good.
My appearance is the next:
Slim body type, 190 cm tall (6'2), 80 kg (176 lbs), blondish hair and blue eyes.
My hobbies and interests include the followings:
- Learning about new cultures and languages. Currently I speak two languages on native level which include Hungarian and Romanian and I would like to learn about other languages and cultures.
- History. My favorite topic of history would be middle age (Eastern European) and the two World Wars.
- Geography. All the mountains, seas, rivers, lakes which are surrounding us are so beautiful. Since I live in a mountain city I used to hike too on smaller mountains.
- Sports. Mostly I enjoy playing and watching football which I used to practice too before, but now only as a hobby. Other sports which I like are handball and waterpolo.
- Music. I like to listen mostly to everything related to rock music and rap music. But I am open to other music genres too and I would like to hear about your music taste too!
- Gaming. In my free time when I am off from work I play games on my PC on Steam. Maybe we could play some games too together if you are up for it!
- Movies and series. I don't watch them that much, but if it's a good movie or serie I would not turn it down. The best movie I watched is Shawnshank Redemption and serie I watched was Peaky Blinders which I still didn't finish it. I am open for any movie night if you have good suggestions.
- Youtube. I like to watch gameplays and travelling videos mostly. I like travel videos because one day I would like to travel too around the World if I have the opportunity.
If you are considering to send me a DM, make a small introduction. Mostly I use Discord to chat, if you are ok we can move there, but Reddit chat is fine too. I am open to exchange pictures too once we get to know each other better.

2023.05.29 20:00 RoughRidersRecruiter [A3][NA/AU][Recruiting] Rough Riders: Accessible Milsim Dedicated to Storytelling
Before you read any further, check out our Unit Culture Primer to see what we’re all about. NATO JOINT SPECIAL OPERATIONS COMMAND US CENTCOM OPERATION MYRMIDON 3D COMBINED JOINT TASK FORCE “ROUGH RIDERS” The 3rd Combined Joint Task Force, colloquially known as the Rough Riders, is a special purpose task force created by NATO JSOC with the intent of deterring CSAT influence in the Mediterranean and abroad. Falling under US Central Command, the Rough Riders are a unit hand picked from volunteers across all NATO/ANZUS operating forces. Typically, the Rough Riders are attached to conventional NATO forces to serve as force multipliers. They specialize in Direct Action, Counter-Insurgency, Special Reconnaissance, and forward observation for NATO fire support assets. What we do: The year is 2026, and the world stands poised for great change. With rising tensions in the Middle East and the Pacific, a new world power has emerged: the Canton protocol Strategic Alliance (CSAT). Premiered by China and Iran, this new treaty organization stands poised to threaten NATO's long-reigning global military hegemony. A new Cold War has begun. In the face of this new threat, NATO Joint Special Operations Command has authorized the formation of a special purpose unit to directly intervene against CSAT’s growing sphere of influence. As a member of the Rough Riders, you will witness firsthand the years leading up to ArmA 3’s “The East Wind” campaign and the vibrant political climate of 2035. Your actions and the actions of your brothers in arms will tell the story of NATO defiance in the face of CSATs rise to power. You’ll have epic tales to tell, comrades to mourn, and more than enough action. In the Rough Riders, we put storytelling and fun at the forefront. With a wonderful team of Game Masters and Writers, we aim to give you those “movie moments” and incredible stories of heroism, intense combat, and even hilarity when ArmA decides to ArmA somebody (or all of us). What can I expect from the Rough Riders? - A welcoming, friendly environment.
- Training without the boredom! If this is your first time ever playing ArmA that’s perfectly fine!
- Work Hard, Play Harder Mentality.
- Leadership and promotion opportunities.
- Your feedback to be valued, regardless of how new you are.
- The freedom to switch between roles without a stuffy MOS system.
- Roleplay.
What do the Rough Riders expect from me? - Willingness to learn, follow orders, and contribute to the success of the team.
- To respect your fellow Rough Riders.
- A working microphone.
- A sense of humor.
What does “Accessible Milsim” mean? In the Rough Riders, we've built our community around making the junior enlisted experience as drama-free as possible. We believe that solid milsim operations can still work without suffocating our enlisted with constricting MOS systems and countless hours of basic training. The idea is that new members can join the unit, download the mods and jump right into the action. This is made possible by increasingly serious levels of milsim orientation the further up the chain of command you go. Your average player can jump right into fun and challenging operations if their Fireteam and Squad Leaders have the adequate training and mentality. By volunteering to try for a leadership position, you increase your commitment and seriousness level. Accessible milsim means that you choose the level of dedication and milsim seriousness that you want. From casually showing up to be boots on the ground blowing stuff up, to managing training and combat leadership, all the way to the paperwork simulator that comes with an officer commission. You get out what you put in. Training: You don't need to be a grizzled ArmA veteran to join the Rough Riders. Our simple training program is intended to bring even brand new players up to speed without killing them with boredom. You can expect to learn the following: - TFAR Setup - Rough Riders Intro (who we are, what we do, expectations-both ways) - Intro to Unit Life (who you are, what you'll be doing as a new member, chain of command) - Role Interest Declaration (helps us shape and personalize your training) - ArmA Basics - ACE Basics - TFAR Basic Training - Common Sense Combat/Fireteam Training - CQB Basic Training Between deployments, we do a garrison rotation that is focused on catching any new members up to speed and helping veteran members and NCOs grow and improve. The Hebontes schedule is a several week process. This allows for the writing/zeusing team to have time to create a quality deployment with all the necessary lore bits and planning considerations, while giving the unit time to relax and make mistakes in a controlled and learning-focused environment. Opportunities: Rough Riders members fill a multitude of roles, and are allowed to switch between them for different missions so long as they have passed the appropriate training. Roles available to Rough Riders are: -Zeus -**Rifleman/Designated Marksman -AT/AA Specialist - Automatic Rifleman -Grenadier -Radio Operator -Combat Medic/ MEDEVAC Medic -Combat Engineer -Artilleryman/Fire Direction Officer -Rotary-wing Aircraft Crew/Pilot -Fixed-wing Aircraft Pilot -IFV/APC Crew/Commander -Media ReporteJournalist Leadership opportunities are made available to interested members who are noted to possess technical competency and the ability to communicate effectively. Through a program we call the Warrior Leaders Course, NCO candidates are put to the test via a series of written and field exams. We have systems in place for leadership development too- so if you’re not ready to lead now (but want to), we can teach you how to be a leader. Community members may join our writing/zeusing team and contribute to the development of our world in-game. It is expected that these individuals be team players overall, and be able to understand and support the bigger picture as determined by the administration team. At the end of the day it's about making sure the players had fun, and telling a memorable story/giving them opportunities to have stories about the operation- not about how cool you are as a Zeus. **Designated Marksman/Sniper School is open to Rough Riders with a score of 38+ (Expert) on their Rifle Qual, who have achieved the rank of Lance Corporal. Members are eligible for promotion to Lance Corporal after one (1) full deployment with the unit. Operations: We operate Monday/Friday/Saturday starting at ~7pm-~8pm EST. Tuesday-Thursday and Sunday are off days and Squad Leaders may run trainings if requested or if they see fit. Members typically play other games in the discord together on these off days as well. There is no mandatory attendance expectation- we want to see you around, but everyone understands that real life comes first. We operate on a deployment system, meaning that we spend prolonged periods of time in various regions of the world participating in roughly 1-2 month long persistent environments. Between these deployments we dedicate a few weeks to retraining the unit, catching new players up on anything they haven't already figured out during their deployment, and testing NCO candidates while our Zeus/Writer team works on the next deployment. Information: Founded September 2018, Rough Riders is actively seeking new members to help increase our core of dedicated players. We operate with a reinforced platoon (~40ish) that includes infantry and a myriad of support elements also manned by our members. The Rough Riders consists of primarily North American (NA) members, and so most things are scheduled with that in mind. We do however have an international community with wonderful members from places like Australia, Laos, Russia, and elsewhere. Anybody and everybody is welcome in the Rough Riders- we just ask that you are able to speak, read, and understand English. To join, simply join our discord and introduce yourself! No application necessary, and no sitting through hours of tedious basic training just to blow things up. Check out some badass screenshots!: https://imgur.com/a/MEvB9by Our discord server: https://discord.gg/KEKeawr Our Official Arma 3 Unit page: https://units.arma3.com/unit/3djtf submitted by
