This is good because securities regulators demand that you make it clear that in the financial markets, “Past performance is no guarantee of future results.”
However, investment analysts continue to use rhymes and here’s one that could help you see sizeable investment returns from Predictmedix Inc. (CSE: PMED, OTCQB: PMEDF). This is how the rhyme comes together:
A. The 1990s technology boom: The parallel I see is between the current Artificial Intelligence cycle and the dot-com stock market cycle of ≈1990 to ≈ 2002. As background, the 1990s either developed or laid the groundwork for changes that completely transformed the world we live in. Out of that time came many new technologies and related developments and each was highly disruptive. Here is a very brief list of some of those developments:
(1) Nokia was the first mass-produced cellphone offered in 1992 with the ability to send and receive phone calls as well as store data (e.g. phone numbers).
(2) The World Wide Web, a.k.a. the Web browser was proposed in 1990 and debuted in 1991. This was the start of the Internet, Websites, e-mails and a massive amount of information that would become available to everyone.
(3) With the explosion of data available, finding it became a challenge. Mosaic started as the first search engine in 1993 followed by Yahoo in 1994 and Google in 1998. Today, Google has risen to the top and become synonymous with an Internet search. Google it.
(4) Other important developments of that time included the growth in the capacity of microprocessors, Photoshop, texting, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, realistic videogames for a more adult market, collecting and using DNA, the start of e-tailing and more.
(5) Finally, we have the stock market. Cisco, Dell, Intel and Microsoft are sometimes referred to as the four horsemen of the 1990s tech boom. But we can’t ignore Apple and Google and there were many more that benefited. The smaller, new, Initial Public Offering companies came to the fore with incredibly high returns in the second half of the 1990s.
The chart to the right shows how stock markets performed during the 1990’s high-tech boom. A few things are worth noting:
(1) The Dot.Com stock market cycle lasted a long t time. Essentially, more than the decade of the 1990s. It’s length reflected the importance of the fundamental changes taking place.
(2) There was an important development regarding the stock market that has become part of the stock market legend. On December 5, 1996, Federal Reserve Board Chairman Alan Greenspan in a televised speech used the term “irrational exuberance” to describe a stock market that he thought was highly speculative and overvalued. His comment was intended as a warning from the Fed that the stock market, driven by the high-tech developments described above, was overvalued. His timing was five years early which is a lifetime in the stock market.
(3) The five years after Greenspan’s “irrational exuberance” statement was the most profitable for investors of the entire ten years plus of the stock market cycle.
As you sit reading this brief, imagine your life without a cell phone, the Internet, e-mail and text messages. How different would your life be without just these four products that emerged from the 1990s. A more relevant question might be how different would your life be if you had purchased shares in Apple or Cisco or Dell or Google or Microsoft back then?
B. The Artificial Intelligence Boom (AI): The term Artificial Intelligence was created in 1955. The idea was to have a machine that could take data, and find patterns that would enable it to make predictions and reach conclusions (make decisions). The Oxford Dictionary defines AI as “The theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages.”
It was Moore’s Law in 1975 that stated the capacity of semiconductors would continue to double every two years which enabled computers to be able to put into practice the AI Boom that is taking place today. Current forecasts say the AI industry will grow to $900 billion by 2026 and $15.7 trillion by 2030. AI growth in the 1920s could dwarf anything high-tech was able to accomplish in the 1990s.
(1) There is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) boom going on and many people don’t yet realize it is even happening. AI is used in:
i. Self-driving and parking cars. AI is used by Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Tesla, Toyota and Volvo.
ii. Maps and navigation. Enter where you are and where you want to go by car and Google Maps, for example, will give you a choice of routes, the time optimal route taking into account construction and traffic.
iii. Facial detection or recognition. Facial detection identifies a human face or facial recognition that identifies a specific face that can be used for surveillance and security.
iv. Digital assistants such as Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s Siri, Google’s Now and Microsoft’s Cortana. When combined with search and recommendation AI, Alexa or Siri is able to learn your preferences and recommend things you are interested in.
v. Customer service chatbots that answer frequently asked questions, track orders or direct calls. Often people will be unaware they are dealing with a machine.
vi. Vehicle recognition use computer vision and deep learning to find a specific car on a surveillance video.
vii. Robot vacuums can scan a living area, look for and remember objects in the way, remember the best route for cleaning the area and decide how many times it should repeat cleaning a specific area.
It is estimated that by 2030, between 400 and 800 million jobs will be displaced by Artificial Intelligence and 375 million people will have to change to a totally different type of work. It is also forecast that it is not just lower-paying, blue-collar jobs that will be replaced by AI. Jobs such as accountants, lawyers, doctors, investment advisors and portfolio managers might all be substantially eliminated. AI will impact all industries and the rate of change will be exponential, that is, the rate of change will accelerate.
For example, what does a doctor do? In general, a doctor gathers new information, refers to a patient’s medical history, refers to a medical book or today’s Internet, makes a diagnosis and provides s treatment. This is also what a lawyer does. AI might reach the point where it can do it faster and better than a human..
AI does present threats to human existence. As AI is changing exponentially, it will happen faster than the technology boom of the 1990s. It took technology 20 years to produce the changes we discussed above. AI could produce equivalent changes in 10 or 15 years. For example, ChatGPT, an AI product went from zero to 100 million users within months making it the fastest-growing consumer software product in history. There will be others.
(2) The AI shift could drive economic change and a stock market cycle at least as significant as the last “dot.com” cycle. The “go-to” companies today for participation in AI are the likes of Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL), Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN), Meta (NASDAQ: META), Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) and Oracle (NYSE: ORCL). These are very large companies. GOOGL has a market cap of $1.6 trillion, AMZN has a market cap of $1.2 trillion, META has a market cap of $$648 billion, MSFT has a market cap of $2.4 trillion, NCDA has a market cap of $963 billion and ORCL has a market cap of $282 billion.
(3) While these are excellent businesses, they are also amongst the world’s largest companies. In 2022, GOOGL, META and MSFT purchased 2 out of every 3 AI chips. In my opinion, it is almost unthinkable that GOOGL can be a ten-bagger from a base market cap of $1.6 trillion or AMZN from $1.2 trillion. But it is clear these stocks now have a major component of their value derived from involvement in Artificial Intelligence and it is not surprising that early adopters would choose a lower risk/lower return approach to gain exposure to an emerging Artificial Intelligence industry.
(4) The changes created by AI also carry some risks. The speed of change will be challenging to human beings. There are forecasts that say one in four workers globally will see their jobs disappear and one in eight workers will have to be retrained in a totally unrelated field. During the industrial revolution and the tech boom, there was always the promise of more and better jobs. With AI we may have reached the point where machines actually do replace workers.
(5) Cathie Wood is a well-known and widely followed money manager with a reputation for expertise in the Artificial Intelligence sector. Wood manages a range of portfolios including the ARK Innovation Exchange Traded Fund (ARKK) and since its founding in 2014, Bloomberg estimates NDVA has contributed 13% of the fund’s 112% total return only behind Grayscale Bitcoin Trust, Invitae Corp and Tesla. That is all positive but Wood sold the ARKK holding in NVDA in January 2023 just before it rallied strongly adding some $560 billion to its market cap with $200 billion coming on one day after reporting earnings. Wood’s investors have basically missed the huge rally in the stock and the sector in 2023.
(6) But there is another phase I would look for and that is the participation of smaller, retail investors. Whether it was in the tech cycle I discussed above, the “meme” stocks or commodity exploration and development cycles in the past, the retail investor buys in before the bull market ends. Market pundits such as Citi global asset allocation and Vanda Research make the same observation: where is the retail investor?
We know the institutional investors have been getting in. So far in 2023 according to Bloomberg, the top 4% of stocks in the S&P 500 have contributed 94% of the index return and 8 of the top 20 include Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet Class A, NVIDIA, Alphabet Class C, Tesla and Meta. In other words, the top 2% of the stocks in the S&P 500 contributed 94% of the return. Through mid-May, if the AI stocks are omitted, the S&P Index would be down -1.4% instead of up +8.3%. All of these stocks are AI leaders and each of them is an institutional stock. Yet, I believe the retail investor will come into the market and when they do, it is stocks like PMED for which they have always had an appetite.
C. I think investors will get more bang for their buck by investing in a small company like Predictmedix Inc. (CSE: PMED, OTCQB: PMEDF) with a total commitment to AI. From a base market cap of $16.6 million and, as I have pointed out in recent reports, many different business verticals to get them higher, I see PMED as a unique opportunity for aggressive growth investors. It is hard to imagine any decade having more of an impact on the ensuring socio-economic decades than the 1990s. Imagine your activities today without your cellphone, Internet, email and texting.
I expect the cycle driven by AI to be a long one, similar to the dot-com cycle that lasted longer than the decade of the 1990s. To the right is a chart published by Luke Lango’s Hypergrowth Investing. It shows the stock market in the 1990s and overlays current results. The parallels Lango sees include:
• Federal Reserve’s tight money policy slowed economic growth in 1990 as it is doing currently.
• In 1990, the markets were down around 20% and in 2022 stocks dropped around 25%.
• In late 1990, the Fed started reducing interest rates and the markets rebounded.
• In late 2022, the Fed has turned less hawkish and into 2023 has slowed the pace of interest rate increases. The markets have been recovering.
• In the early 1990’s, the dot-com stock market rally began and the market would advance generally higher for the rest of the decade and into the new millennium.
• Today, it is Artificial Intelligence that is pushing stocks higher and given my expectations for AI, it could stock prices higher until at least 2030.
Conclusion: I believe Predictmedix Inc. (CSE: PMED, OTCQB: PMEDF) is exceptionally well positioned to participate in the upcoming boom in Artificial Intelligence. There are many different ways to describe market cycles that evolve around such drivers. Here is mine:
- Accumulation: the earliest buyers tend to be larger institutions that gain the information necessary to be early adopter. I have given several statistics to show this has been happening.
- Retail Participation/Speculation: as the story gains acceptance, less experienced investors enter the market and prices begin to rise more quickly. After two to three years of combined buying by large and small investors, it is possible to identify speculative activities such as very rapid increases in a stock price or underwritings of companies based on questionable valuations. This is the next phase I see ahead for the current AI cycle.
- Distribution/Sale: At some point, toward the end of the Retail Participation/Speculation phase, some investors will begin to sell. It is popular to believe that institutional investors or “smart money” sell at this stage. During the many years, I have spent in the investment business, this is not true. Institutions can hold on to their AI stocks for far too long and end up seeing their portfolios incinerated. This is still many years away. The challenge today with a stock like PMED is not getting out; it is getting in.
- Bear Market: eventually there will be a broad sell-off of AI stocks. Some institutions will sell without regard for their impact on the market. Margin buyers will get margin calls and may be forced to sell again without regard to price. At this time, over half of the AI companies trading at that time will simply disappear. Some will be successful but remain smaller. Some will merge with another AI company. Some will be acquired. Very few will survive and become leaders in the industries. They will become the Alphabets, Amazons, Metas, Microsofts, Nvidias, and Oracles of the 2040s and 2050s.
I started out with the quote “History doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes.” So I don’t think the AI cycle of the 2020s will be the same as the high-tech cycle of the 1990s but I think it will be similar. If you agree, Predictmedix Inc. (CSE: PMED, OTCQB: PMEDF) is a stock to buy for your portfolio.

The smaller, new, Initial Public Offering companies came to the fore with incredibly high returns in the second half of the 1990s. The chart to the right shows how stock markets performed during the 1990’s high-tech boom. A few things are worth noting: (1) The Dot.Com stock market cycle lasted a long t time. The Oxford Dictionary defines AI as “The theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages.” It was Moore’s Law in 1975 that stated the capacity of semiconductors would continue to double every two years which enabled computers to be able to put into practice the AI Boom that is taking place today. AI is used in: i. The parallels Lango sees include: • Federal Reserve’s tight money policy slowed economic growth in 1990 as it is doing currently. Here is mine: - Accumulation: the earliest buyers tend to be larger institutions that gain the information necessary to be early adopter.
(CSE: PMED, OTCQB: PMEDF) is a stock to buy for your portfolio. submitted by Professional_Disk131 to smallcapbets [link] [comments] |

2023.06.09 17:22 breakupcoachdaniel Why most relationships today end in less than a year
First things first, it’s not just you.
Because the reasons why many relationships today are very fragile and don’t last long or do last long but turn toxic or very unenjoyable after a few years are as follows:
1. It’s easier to start a rebound relationship than to genuinely work on and improve oneself. Because of this, many people suck at working through their past emotional baggage and aren’t fully aware of how that baggage greatly influences the quality of their relationships and the kind of people they attract. 2. People greatly underestimate how much working through this baggage and letting go of/healing it will lead to transformation and drastically improve their life and relationships. 3. Many people want the honeymoon phase (which fades at the 4-6 month mark) to last forever without having to build it and without having to put in the work to sustain it with their partner. 4. Because they don’t want to put in this work (or never learned how to do so) most, if not all of their relationships are very fragile and end in less than a year. 5. The world isn’t ready for true love as it works in real life. It really isn’t. Because right now we are in a time period in human evolution where people are just now slowly learning the significant differences between love and attachment. Of the negative effects of the bad social conditioning that went on for centuries. That certain old outdated values and ideas about love and relationships are no longer viable and never worked well in the first place. 6. Many people believe that love is something that’s found and just falls into our lap. When in reality, true love is something that arises out of mutual respect and something that’s build and sustained. You don’t randomly stumble upon it like how you would find a 50 dollar bill on the ground.

2023.06.09 16:58 wellyeahbutnotreally Mods incoming, behave yourselves
2023.06.09 16:53 Investorsdilemma1 Accenture’s Technology Vision report 2023 When Atoms meet Bit.
https://www.accenture.com/us-en/insights/technology/technology-trends-2023?c=acn\_glb\_lifetrends2023google\_13631812&n=psgs\_0523&gclid=CjwKCAjwm4ukBhAuEiwA0zQxk2PW7ZnXAFrXpecBVEzZbZw9Yxhz8LajBPPNUfEwK0hi2li8X0v-xBoCH2gQAvD\_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds World War II taught us an important lesson about the relationship between science and technology—one that guided innovation efforts for decades after.
Many of today’s emerging technologies have the potential to accelerate the
sciencetechnology feedback loop—so it’s critical for companies to start identifying which ones could have the biggest potential impacts on scientific advancement, and in turn, which scientific advancements could have the biggest impacts on future technologies.
The importance of this knowledge shouldn’t be understated. Taking strategic advantage of these developments will be what lets enterprises transform their businesses in coming years, and ultimately the futures of their industries.
While there are many areas where sciencetechnology feedback loops can drive innovation, we will discuss three early domains where the cycle is significantly accelerating and we are seeing its impact already: materials and energy, Earth and space, and biology.
Materials and energy Major technological advances in computing are launching a
new era of computational chemistry, a major driver behind material and energy innovation.
With access to greater compute power and new computing paradigms, chemists will be able to do more complex and more accurate molecular simulations than ever before, deepening scientific understanding and pushing the bounds of novel material development, energy solutions to address climate change, and more.
Consider this: performing more than one quintillion operations per second, a supercomputer in China appears to have been the first to break the exascale barrier in 2021. And in May 2022, a supercomputer from the U.S. Oak Ridge National Laboratory became the first to officially demonstrate exascale performance, according to researchers for the Top500, a ranking of the world’s most powerful high-performance computers. With plans for more exascale machines around the world, this scale
of compute power will transform science, and computational chemistry in particular. The importance of this knowledge shouldn’t be understated. Taking strategic advantage of these developments will be what lets enterprises transform their businesses in coming years, and ultimately the futures of their industries.
Chemists will be able to run faster simulations over larger molecular systems and over longer lengths of time, providing needed insights into chemical theory to reduce the gaps between virtual simulations and real-world experimental findings. While the right code would still be needed to take advantage of this computing power, some programs like NWChemEx are already being developed—in this case to run complex molecular simulations to better use catalytic materials to more sustainably produce biofuels.
The impact that powerful supercomputers are starting to have on the sciences is undeniable—but it’s not limitless. There’s the end of Moore’s Law to keep in mind, meaning that the growth of compute power is slowing—and to the extent that it grows, costs may become prohibitively high. As such, methods to overcome these computing limits are also growing, including moving to entirely new computing paradigms like quantum computing.
Quantum computers have a “natural” advantage (over classical computers) in simulating
quantum mechanics, which governs the behavior of molecules, atoms, and electrons. As such, it is contributing to the field of chemistry, in perhaps the nearest-term application of quantum computers. Though computational speedups may come with quantum computers, what they provide in this case is an advantageous level of accuracy in modeling distinct parts of a chemical reaction— and this enhanced understanding has many potential applications.
For instance, Hyundai is partnering with the quantum computing startup IonQ to analyze and simulate battery materials—in this case lithium oxide, contained in lithium-air batteries. Using hybrid algorithms that leverage computing by both classical and quantum computers, they can improve the chemical makeup for greater efficiency and eliminate possible sources of waste. of global executives believe nextgeneration computing will be a major driver of breakthroughs in their industry over the next decade. 95%
Building supercomputers and quantum computers is not cheap, but experimenting with them is significantly cheaper than before, thanks to cloud platforms. Firefly Aerospace, for instance, is a startup that relies on cloud supercomputing to do advanced simulations to save massive amounts of money on prototyping, enabling them to build a rocket to go to the moon.
And while quantum computing still needs time to mature, it’s clear that these computers have a major role to play helping companies effectively drive science technology feedback loops and accelerate materials and energy innovation. The bottom line Science tech needs to be on everyone’s radar. Advances in next-generation computing, space technologies, and biotech will drive progress in materials and energy innovation, science in space for Earth, and synthetic biology in an incredibly exciting time for people, businesses, and the world. Indeed, as challenges like pandemics and climate change are ever more present, it’s time to invest in and fully unleash the promise of compressed innovation and accelerated science and technology cycles, as they evolve and revolve over time, driving each other forward into the future.

2023.06.09 16:34 artisanrox 6/9--VOCs and lots of Editorials.
Good Morning RonaPA!
I hope you stayed safe during the recent wildfire fallout.
Still don't have optimal equipment here and I have some things I need to do today so again this will be short.
I'm going to edit this post a lot so I don't lose my work. Please check back later if it doesn't look right quite yet. I apologize for the inconvenience.
REDDIT API access
Barring a COVID news emergency, I won't be posting an update on Monday 6/12 in solidarity with Reddit going dark for 2 days. Reddit is making third party moderating/browsing API access inaccessibly expensive. You can find out more (you'll need to review options especially if you use Apollo, Reddit Is Fun, etc.) on

Respirators, CR Boxes, and Wildfires...they're all related!!
Just a reminder that if you have respirators on hand (N95, KN95, P100, N99, etc.) or you made a Corsi-Rosenthal box in the past whatever months, that these come in extremely handy to stay safer from wildfire smoke!
Fit-tested N95s are best and ideal though I understand just not practical for everyone.
Head-loop respirators protect BETTER than ear-loop models BUT ear-loop models can be modified to fit better.
CLOTH MASKS/BANDANNAS DO NOT FILTER OUT FINE SMOKE PARTICLES. They are not enough as microscopic smoke particles are many times smaller than particles that carry pathogens. You need an electrostatic respirator and at least MERV-11 filters for smoke.
Wildfire smoke contains lots of heavy metals which makes it dangerous for pets too.
For Christ's sake don't turn on Fox Entertainment, stop other people from watching it and don't listen to them saying wildfire smoke is just A-OK to breathe.
We are not even in "wildfire season" yet and conditions are already extremely dry. Lightning strikes have contributed to almost all fires in Canada, including the one that darkened our own sky. This is creating perfect conditions to be an unprecedentedly bad fire season. Be prepared!

However, patients who recover from the acute phase of the infection can still suffer long-term effects (8). Post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC), commonly referred to as “long COVID,” refers to the long-term symptoms, signs, and complications experienced by some patients who have recovered from the acute phase of COVID-19 (8–10). Emerging evidence suggests that severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus that causes COVID-19, can have lasting effects on nearly every organ and organ system of the body weeks, months, and potentially years after infection (11,12). Documented serious post-COVID-19 conditions include cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological, renal, endocrine, hematological, and gastrointestinal complications (8), as well as death (13).

2023.06.09 16:25 DoABarrowRoll Defending the Draft: New York Giants Edition (2023)
Hello to you, fellow ingrates.
Year 6 of DABR Defends the New York Giants from Criticism has arrived.
Season Recap
tl;dr: The Giants had their most successful season since 2016, and arguably since winning the Super Bowl in 2012 (if the draft spot/playoff success is the measurement) and went into draft night with the latest selection they've had since 2012, the first outside the top 11 since 2016.
Giants fans didn't really expect to win that many games this year. There were still some hopefuls for Daniel Jones but most people had come to terms with new GM Joe Schoen and new HC Brian Daboll pretty much setting up to replace him, declining his 5th year option.
It was the first year of this regime, they hadn't really been able to fix up the roster fully, etc. Most Giants fans I know were expecting a 4-7 win season, not sniffing the playoff race. Ha.
It all started week 1 vs Tennessee. It was honestly a story Giants fans have gotten familiar with. Look absolutely horrible in the first half of the game, but somehow struggle back into it in the second half, only to be dramatically disappointed at the end of the game. After Daniel Jones threw a red zone interception with just under 9 minutes to go, we thought that was pretty much it.
But then with 4 minutes left, Saquon Barkley rips off a 33 yard run, Daniel Jones converts a 4th and 1, and the Giants score a TD to pull them to just a 1 point deficit. Most Giants fans are thinking "okay he's gonna kick it, play for overtime, I respect that, we didn't think it would be that close anyways."
And then we see the offense staying on the field...uh oh. The offense wasn't exactly clicking on all cylinders to that point in the game, having been shut out in the first half. If we don't get it, the game is pretty much lost. Daboll calls a shovel pass, Saquon gets it, it looks like it's completely doomed...I'm thinking "here we go again, his first game and the media is already going to be all over him for going for it"...but Saquon fights his way in! Giants take the lead for the first time in the game. We're feeling good, Daboll's huge balls in that situation giving us some confidence.
Then the Titans methodically work the ball down the field (along with a couple of assists from Austin Calitro and Darnay Holmes), setting up a 47 yard field goal for Randy Bullock to win the game.
Now, I'm thinking, "of course this is what happened, they gave us some hope, now it's going to get ripped away from us, just like always. Story of the last few years at times."
...and then Bullock missed the kick. That was the start of what turned into a magical first half of the season, the Giants getting off to a 7-2 start, all 7 wins coming by a 1 score margin (though the Bears and Texans games were a bit cleaner than the final scoreline suggests), and 5 of them really coming down to big time plays in the last 5 minutes of the game.
The Titans story, taking the lead with 3:38 left in the 4th quarter and Julian Love sacking Baker Mayfield to force 4th and 15 the next drive against Carolina, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Xavier McKinney batting down Aaron Rodgers' passes in London, Love intercepting Lamar Jackson to set up the game winning score against Baltimore, McKinney and Love stopping Christian Kirk at the 1 yard line on the last play against Jacksonville.
All of those games are games that go against us in previous years. But this year was just different. And somehow through it all, there were Saquon Barkley and Daniel Jones as well. Saquon was the focal point of the offense early in the season, Jones being efficient in a heavy, limited, play action focused passing attack.
All thoughts of the Giants earning a top pick and replacing Daniel Jones pretty much went out the window by week 4, and hope for Jones maybe finally becoming the QB he was drafted to be started to blossom in some parts of the Giants fanbase.
Things came crashing down a bit the next 4 weeks. Awful losses to Detroit, Dallas, and Philly, with a tie against Washington in there too that many Giants fans felt they deserved to win capped off a 1-4-1 stretch where the Giants simply did not look good. They looked more like what we expected the team to look like coming into the year. The playoff spot was no longer guaranteed, at 7-5-1. But a flexed SNF game against Washington would pretty much decide the season.
And the Giants took that win against Washington and ran with it. A close loss against the Vikings that was probably the best passing attack game of the season to that point, a dominating win against the hapless Colts that locked the Giants into the playoffs, and a surprisingly tight and scrappy game between the Eagles starters and the Giants backups gave Giants fans some hope headed into the playoffs. We didn't expect to win a Super Bowl, but the matchup against the Vikings seemed winnable.
And winnable it was, as in classic 2023 Giants fashion, they took a lead about halfway through the 4th quarter, and a couple of clutch plays on defense by Cordale Flott and Xavier McKinney ended the game.
Then we went to Philly and got absolutely ass blasted, ending our season.
That left the Giants with the 25th pick in the class, entering an offseason with a lot of business to take care of.
Free Agency Recap
The Giants had a lot more room to operate in free agency this year than last year, and Schoen was relatively creative in how he wanted to go about it.
The first step in that process though was figuring out the status of his pending free agents; most notably, the two who led the way on offense most of the year: Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley. The Jones negotiations were tense, Jones asked for the moon and the team was not having it. Eventually (literally right before the tag deadline) they settled on a 4 yr, 160m extension with 82m fully guaranteed and a boatload of incentives that could push the value up to almost 200m. That allowed the team to tag Saquon Barkley, whose extension talks are reportedly still stalled, as Barkley declined an offer worth almost 14m during the Giants' bye week, and continues to find the Giants' offer(s) unpalatable.
Speculation is that Barkley is seeking more guaranteed money from the Giants (greater than the sum of 2 franchise tags), but Barkley's camp is not leaking much (reportedly because Saquon doesn't want them to). And according to most reporters, Saquon is too competitive to actually sit out the season, removing his last bit of leverage.
Possibly the biggest addition of the Giants' free agency period was actually a trade: The Giants traded the Chiefs' 3rd rounder (acquired for Kadarius Toney) for TE Darren Waller. This is a huge move because the Giants were dead last in explosive pass play rate by a WIDE margin. Only like 6 individual team seasons since 2010 had fewer explosive passing plays than the 2022 Giants. That's something that Schoen and Daboll immediately set out to fix, and Darren Waller is one of the best explosive pass weapons in the league, leading all TEs in explosive pass plays this season despite playing just 9 games this year. Reports out of OTAs are that the Giants are expecting Waller to basically fill a "WR1" role for them; not necessarily in alignment but being the focal point of the offense, high target share, etc.
Schoen and Daboll followed that addition up with two more explosive pass play options: retaining Darius Slayton, and adding Parris Campbell to the room. Slayton is a solid WR, he's good for 600-700 yards when he gets run. His hands are inconsistent, but he makes up for it often. Campbell finally broke out having a healthy season for the Colts this season. I think Campbell is mostly insurance for Wan'Dale Robinson, who is coming off of a torn ACL, but if healthy should get primary run in the slot.
The Giants' other two main moves came on the defensive side of the ball, adding LB Bobby Okereke to a LB room that comprised of: Jarrad Davis, Micah McFadden, and Darrian Beavers (coming off a torn ACL). Much needed improvement in that room. The Giants also added Rakeen Nunez-Roches and A'Shawn Robinson to the DL room to improve the depth there; Dexter Lawrence and Leonard Williams were playing too many snaps, and the Giants were really bad against the run last year.
In the process though, the Giants lost both of their starting centers from 2022, Nick Gates and Jon Feliciano, as well as S Julian Love, who had been a consistent staple of the defense the last few years.
Draft Needs
The Giants roster was in much better shape this year than last year, but the team still had a number of problems:
- CB was still a HUGE need for the Giants, and one that had not been properly addressed yet. Adoree' Jackson had another very good year in 2022, but the spot across from him had been a mishmosh of misfit toys: Fabian Moreau had a nice little run, but struggled down the stretch. Nick McCloud got a lot of run at CB2 after being claimed on waivers from the Bills. Cordale Flott had been drafted as a nickel defender but got some run there. And the slot position wasn't much better, as Darnay Holmes continued to be a liability there. This position needed reinforcements. I've been a relatively vocal minority in the Giants fandom saying this has been the BIGGEST need the team had for a couple of years now (basically aside from the one year that we had Bradberry and Jackson both on the team).
- Despite adding Slayton, Campbell, and Waller, WR was still something the team needed. Specifically someone who could develop into a WR1 type player. The Giants WR room is relatively deep, but just adding Campbell and Waller and running back last year's group didn't feel sufficient. The team clearly was putting an emphasis on speed, separation, and yards after the catch ability.
- Center was a massive need. The Giants basically didn't have a center on the roster who had played meaningful NFL snaps. Ben Bredeson could move to center if needed, but it wasn't that solid of a plan. And in what seemed like a good center class, this seemed like a good way to solve that problem.
- LB. The LB2 spot currently will be either Jarrad Davis, Micah McFadden (who basically lost the job last year to Jarrad Davis), or Darrian Beavers (who tore his ACL last year). I think that says it all.
- RB: Saquon is on the tag, so you feel okay here, but the team has been seeking a solid compliment for him for a while. They were in on a few of the RBs last year and the value never lined up, and Matt Breida and Gary Brightwell didn't really cut it last year. They don't want to run Saquon into the ground early in the year like they did last year, so having a compliment for him is big.
- S: Losing Julian Love is a tough one. He played a lot of snaps and wore a lot of hats for this defense last year, especially with McKinney missing time with a hand injury. The team likes Jason Pinnock, and drafted Dane Belton in the early 4th last year, but more depth and competition here would be very welcome.
So let's get into the picks:
1.24: Deonte Banks, CB, Maryland
Seems like maybe Schoen agreed with me!
It was a lot harder to try to predict what the Giants would do this year, just by virtue of having a later pick. But the general consensus among the beat seemed to be that the team wanted to get a CB or an offensive playmaker with that first pick. I was a little skeptical of CB being an option, seeing how many mocks had all 5 of the top CBs off the board, but that often left WRs available.
So right after the Jets took Will McDonald at 15, if you looked at the board, only 1 CB had been taken and no WRs had been taken. That felt pretty good for the Giants.
Then Forbes and Gonzalez come off the board, and the top 4 WRs come off the board from 20-23.
That left the Giants feeling a little antsy. They had one guy they really wanted left, and negotiated a trade up one spot with the Jaguars to secure their guy: Deonte Banks.
This pick is perfect for what the Giants want to do on defense. Wink Martindale's reaction should say it all, if you go watch the Giants' behind the scenes videos on the draft process.
Banks is a tall, long, and athletic corner, which are all important traits for Wink's press man heavy defense. He's super fluid and smooth in his hips. He tested absolutely crazy. He also plays with a swag that I think Wink and Giants fans will come to really appreciate. He plays confident, he plays fast in terms of processing, and he plays physical.
He still has some development to go, I'm not saying he's going to be a top CB in the league from day 1. He wasn't a super ball productive corner, but that's not something Wink necessarily needs. It will take some time for him to get comfortable with the complexity of route runners in the NFL. But the tools are all there, and the Giants get a perfect scheme fit.
Banks will come in and immediately be the starter at CB across from Adoree' Jackson, and the trickle down effect that will have on the Giants depth chart at CB will be tangible.
2.57: John Michael Schmitz, OC, Minnesota
As this pick was coming up, Schoen and Daboll were discussing who to pick, and basically said "okay we're either going with Schmitz or (we'll get to that later ;) )".
Then the Bears traded up to the pick before the Giants pick. And Joe Schoen said "oh fuck." Daboll tried to calm him down and said "well I guess we're getting ."
Then the Bears took Tyrique Stevenson (good pick!), leaving the Giants the choice between the two players. And the Giants went with Schmitz.
Full disclosure: I was not a huge JMS fan in the draft process. I thought he was super solid all around, but he wasn't really impressive to me, there weren't a lot of overwhelmingly positive reps or traits in my eyes. I thought he was maybe a little heavy footed, especially in pass pro, and his testing kind of backed that up, and I didn't really see full unlocked power either.
I was probably a bit harsh on him in terms of the grade though. Like I said, he's a super solid player. There's relatively little to really complain about. He's smart, he's experienced, and he made few mental mistakes. His snaps were consistent. He is pretty strong though not crazy so. His anchor is really good, and he plays nasty and competitive, which is something the Giants are definitely looking for. It helps he had a really good Senior Bowl week too.
Was Schmitz my favorite center in this class? No. But he was for many people, and for some good reasons. Schmitz will come in and immediately start at center for the Giants, bringing the dead snap with him. If he can be the 3rd best player on this unit (behind Andrew Thomas and hopefully Evan Neal taking a step forward this year and being healthy), it'll be an immensely calming and steadying presence that should raise the OL play of the whole unit.
3.73: Jalin Hyatt, WR, Tennessee
So you may be wondering: Who was Player X?
Well immediately after drafting Schmitz, Schoen looked around the room and pretty much said "what if we can still get ?" He decided that the price he was willing to pay was the Giants 4th round pick. And he and everybody else in the room started calling.
That included Brian Daboll, who leaned over and said "hey should I text [Rams HC Sean] McVay?" Schoen said "yeah sure go for it." And Daboll officially negotiated the Giants trading up from 89 to 73 to select Player X: Tennessee WR Jalin Hyatt
Hyatt is a really fun player to watch. The speed blows you away on tape. It's the kind of speed that even if you're not throwing it to him all the time, defenses have to take note when he comes on the field and play him differently. He's not necessarily slippery or elusive after the catch but (and I'm scared to frame it this way but I'm doing it anyway) the speed and acceleration gives him credibility there, the way that Odell was such a YAC threat on slants just getting to full speed and outrunning everyone.
He's a little high cut I think, and that leads to a little bit of trouble with crisper routes. He wasn't asked to run a very complex route tree at Tennessee, though I do think he has the skills to improve in that sense. The biggest concern for me is just how quickly we can get him up to speed beating press and playing through physicality. When he has room to work, he can beat CBs in a few ways, but NFL DBs will knock even very good WRs off their routes at times. And that follows through to contested catches.
The Giants' WR room is so crowded it's hard for me to say exactly what Hyatt's role will be starting out. The Giants started last year trying to use different WRs in different ways on a game to game basis. Then the wheels fell off obviously, with Shep, Wan'Dale, and Toney being hurt and Golladay stinking and all that. So I wonder if we see a return to that.
Hyatt can be a threat in a lot of ways, end arounds, screens, etc in addition to the obvious "go long" situations. Just how many reps he can carve out will be fun to track in training camp.
So the Giants come out of the first 3 rounds with 3 players who were commonly mocked to them at 25. Pretty good business! But let's get into day 3:
5.172: Eric Gray, RB, Oklahoma
The Giants traded away their 4th round pick to get Hyatt so they went 99 picks without making a selection.
Like I said earlier, the team has been looking for a compliment to Saquon Barkley for a long time, and they find it here with Eric Gray.
Schoen said he sees Eric Gray as a 3 down back. And you can definitely see why. He caught 88 passes over the last 3 years at Oklahoma and only dropped 2. He's also strong and physical, willing to pass protect. That physicality carries over into his running style, he runs hard and is willing to run through guys. He's bursty in short areas and has pretty solid vision in my opinion.
He's a compact guy, just 5'9 207. He's not super slippery or elusive, and he's not really a home run hitter. But in terms of finding a backup RB on day 3 to feed some of those tough yardage carries to and keep Saquon fresh, you could do worse than Eric Gray for sure.
The Giants ran a fair bit of "Pony" type formations in 2022, using 2 or even 3 RBs at times. The competition between Gray and Matt Breida for the true RB2 spot will be fun to see. Breida brings a little more explosiveness to the table, but Gray will certainly give him a run for his money. And depending on what happens with Saquon Barkley's contract situation, we may see even more of Gray down the line.
6.209: Tre Hawkins, CB, Old Dominion
When asked about what is different this year from last year, what improvements or what has gotten easier now that he's been in the chair for a full year, Joe Schoen talked a lot about really getting a good handle on what his coaches look for in players. And he singled out Wink in that respect because him and Daboll have worked together so much.
The Giants selection of Tre Hawkins really highlights that. Like with Deonte Banks, Hawkins brings a ton of physical traits. He tested through the roof. He has the length that the Giants look for. He's also super physical in both phases, run and pass, which Wink loves. ODU let him just play press man, so he's comfortable doing that.
He's a little slim still, so his frame needs some reworking, but that's common with CBs and especially ones from outside the P5 schools. He also has a lot of technique and FBIQ stuff to clean up. His footwork is messy, he's not always patient enough with his punch. His ball skills still leave something to be desired. He's still learning to read routes and manage space both in man and zone.
I figure Hawkins will come in and be a depth player and core STer for the Giants. If his play strength holds up against NFL scrutiny, he can definitely be a day 1 punt gunner. Wink has started calling Jerome Henderson the best DB coach in the league, so it'll be fun to see what Henderson can do with a ball of clay like Hawkins. Even if he ends up just being a STer and CB5 type guy, that's still a pretty good pick in the 6th round like this.
Also, sorry Patriots writer :)
7.243: Jordon Riley, DL, Oregon
Beating a dead horse at this point, but this is another pick Schoen highlighted as an example of his understanding of what Wink is looking for.
Obviously Riley is a flawed prospect, it's the 7th round. He was a 6th year senior who spent time at 4 different schools, starting at UNC, then going to JUCO for a year, then Nebraska for 2 years where he barely played, and finishing his college career at Oregon. PFF lists him as having just 534 career snaps in college despite the 5 years he spent at the P5 level. He wasn't very productive, partly because he barely played and partly because he's just not very good. He's not a good athlete.
What Riley does have, though, is size, strength, and knockback power. And that's what Wink is looking for in a depth NT. He eats blocks, stuffs up lanes, and just is hard to move.
Schoen put it this way:
"It’s hard to find these guys. When you get into the seventh round, you are looking for guys that maybe it will be hard to get at different areas. And another guy we spent time with, big run stopper in there, 6-foot-5, 330.
You walk out to practice, and there’s this 6-5, 330-pound guy, who piques your interest right there. Again, some of these guys in different schemes may not have the production, the tackles, the sacks. But for what Wink looks for in terms of size, length, knock-back — he possesses those traits.”
7.254: Gervarrius Owens, DB, Houston
Last pick in the draft and the Giants go back to the DB room. They took two CBs already, but some depth/developmental guys at safety would help. Enter: Gervarrius Owens.
Owens is a former CB turned S from Houston. The CB in him flashes to me on tape, I thought his ball skills as a safety were good. He's athletic enough to play pretty much any safety spot, including that single high spot that teams find difficult to fill. He's super physical and willing to play downhill and tackle. He's super experienced, he was a team captain and 4 year starter for Houston.
He makes a lot of mistakes, however. The angles he takes to the ball in both phases are super inconsistent. He missed a ton of tackles in college, so that technique needs to be worked on. The ball skills turned into PBUs rather than INTs; Wink won't mind that but some of them were like "he really should have just caught that."
Owens is another guy like Hawkins who looks primed to earn his roster spot on special teams and provide solid depth for the team's DB room. Wink likes to play 3+ safety sets, especially when he feels like he has a good group there. And the Giants' S room right now is basically Xavier McKinney and a bunch of question marks, so it's entirely feasible that Owens can come in and beat Dane Belton, Jason Pinnock, and Bobby McCain to earn playing time early on.
UDFAs
The Giants UDFA class included a few notable names. 5 total players who got 100k+ in guarantees:
- Bryce Ford-Wheaton, WR, WVU: The Giants gave Bryce Ford-Wheaton a LOT of guaranteed money for a UDFA: 236k, which is the full season PS salary plus 20k. BFW was one of "my guys" this year I was hoping for the Giants to get. He's got the size and athleticism to be really good, but he's a little one note right now. In a crowded WR room, I kind of doubt he'll make the roster without some injuries (or Wan'Dale/Shep being on PUP) but like other late rounders/UDFAs, if he can find some value on special teams, he's a fun upside swing.
- Dyontae Johnson, LB, Toledo: Another guy who got a lot of guaranteed money. The Giants needed some reinforcements at LB and clearly didn't find them in the draft. Super productive in college, very instinctive player, but I'm not sure if he can run with the league. He'll compete with the Giants mishmosh of LBs to play on special teams.
- Ryan Jones, TE/FB, East Carolina: The Giants have been searching for a kind of H-Back type for a while now. Last year they brought in Jeremiah Hall from Oklahoma, that didn't stick. Andre Miller, who was a WR at Maine, seemed like he was getting run at that spot in camp last year, but a broken arm ended his season. Chris Myarick ended up taking some of those reps. Ryan Jones kind of fits that mold as well.
- Habakkuk Baldonado, EDGE, Pittsburgh: The Giants' pass rusher depth is...not great. Behind Kayvon Thibodeaux and Azeez Ojulari, it's Jihad Ward, Oshane Ximines, and Tomon Fox. And Ojulari missed a lot of time last year. Baldonado could potentially come in and earn a spot over Ximines/Fox. He's got good play strength and power and fits what the Giants would need as more of an edge setter and run defender to give Thibodeaux/Ojulari a rest rep before letting them loose to rush the passer.
- Gemon Green, CB, Michigan: Another tough and physical corner. I don't think there's really a spot for him on this roster with the additions of Banks and Hawkins, and I think he's not quite the athlete the Giants look for at CB, but as a last resort/STer he can potentially get somewhere.
Final Takeaways
I did this last year because it was Schoen's first year here, but I like the idea of doing it every year. What can we learn from the way Schoen drafted this year that we can file away and learn for the future? What can mockers learn from this to inform them of who makes sense for the Giants.
And it's pretty similar to last year:
- Athleticism. Once again, pretty much every player the Giants drafted, and the UDFAs generally, were excellent athletes who tested well. The main exceptions being JMS (who was still a solid athlete) and Jordon Riley this year; where the exception last year basically was just DJ Davidson. This team has faith in its coaching staff and wants to give them players they can work with.
- Scheme/Roster Fits. I talked about it a lot with the defensive picks, but every single one is a "Wink Martindale" guy. What does Wink want for his system? This can be a little dangerous considering Wink was in the running for a HC gig last year, and another strong year might finally get him the HC job he has been looking for. If he leaves and the scheme changes, these players need to be able to match the new scheme too. But it's clear that the FO values the input of the coaching staff and there's really clear communication there. This also applies to the offensive side of the ball, where it's super clear that the team wanted more speed on offense, which pointed to Hyatt a little bit.
- Youth. This one is a little less applicable this year as they did draft a few older players, like JMS and Riley, even Eric Gray who turns 24 in November or Tre Hawkins who turns 23 over the summer. But Banks just turned 22, Jalin Hyatt will turn 22 in late September. It feels like maybe they felt more attached to the age stuff when they thought this was a full on rebuild, but now that they're hoping to be a playoff team again, they need some more instant contributors.
- Aggressiveness/willingness to trade. This is a newer one, as last year the Giants only traded back. But this year the Giants traded up twice, giving up 3 day 3 picks in the process. Schoen is not afraid to make trades in either direction. Up to secure guys he really wants (Banks/Hyatt), or down if there's nothing there. Schoen talked about having trades lined up in both directions with the first round pick, he had a trade down ready if there was no one he wanted left.
The Giants went into the 2022 draft clearly rebuilding, 5 picks in the top 81 and making 11 selections. This year, the team came into the draft with 10 picks and came out with just 7. Clearly the team thinks the depth is improving and wants to focus on building the championship contender they are looking to be.

2023.06.09 16:04 DemiGodInsanity Honkai Character Analysis: Himeko
| Hello everyone! Today we're going to be talking about a character who has sadly been left out to the wolves in Star Rail, but that is still liked by many, Himeko! As a side note, this is also the first of these that I'm not doing directly on the Star Rail sub, instead doing it on the new community I've created specifically to discuss the lore of the Honkai series, HonkaiLore! But anyway, let's get right into this! Himeko's splash art First of all, disclaimer: The Honkai: Star Rail characters and Honkai Impact 3rd characters who have the same name and similar appearances, except for Welt Yang, are NOT the same person, but instead you may think of them as something akin of parallel versions of each other! I go into detail about this and how the Honkai universe works here! Also, spoilers for Honkai Impact 3rd ahead, be warned! Now let's get started! Star Rail's Himeko To summarize a bit about Himeko in Star Rail, we know her as the "leader" of the Astral Express gang. As a young woman, she found the Express when it became stranded in her world, and decided to fix it up so it could once again travel through worlds. Once she did, she boarded it and since then has been travelling around the universe. Along the way, she's met many companions, starting with Welt and "his blond friend", up to the current crew with the Trailblazer being the newest member aboard. Though Star Rail has not yet given us much else in terms of her story, we'll now take a look at what her story is in Honkai Impact 3rd, and how this Himeko, Star Rail's Himeko, is important even outside of her own game. Honkai Impact's Himeko Himeko Murata, born on June 11th, 1987, is the captain of a battleship known as the Hyperion, as well as the leader of Schicksal's Valkyrie Squad V. In the game, she is a mentor to the main characters, much like her role in Star Rail towards the rest of the crew. She's also their teacher at St. Freya High School. Himeko's base battlesuit, Battle Storm However, before she became all these things, she went through a lot in her life. Himeko's early life and Ryusuke She was born to her father, Ryusuke Murata, and an unnamed mother. Her mother had a chronic disease, and spent all her time in a hospital. The doctors always requested that Ryusuke stay by her side, in case her condition would worsen, and in any case, to have someone close to her by her side. But Ryusuke would always leave. Himeko as a child and her mother You see, Ryusuke worked for Schicksal as the leader of a research facility, specifically the one in charge of a satellite, known as the 4th Divine Key. This was a satellite built by the Previous Era, a civilization from 50,000 years in the past, and it was a tool that would repair the world if and when that civilization was wiped out by the force known as the Honkai. 50,000 years later, it had completed its task and now floated around the Earth without a purpose, enticing Ryusuke to join the team. He had become obsessed with the prospect of alien life and its discovery through space exploration, and believed that his research would change the course of human civilization forever. Though these may have seemed like selfish and impossible dreams (and selfish they most definitely were), the truth is that Ryusuke would indeed come across alien life. More than that, he would befriend it. But instead of finding it, he was found by it himself. One night, after one of his projects were cancelled for lack of credibility, Ryusuke went home in a rage, especially as this was the same day he received a notice from the hospital, notifying him of his wife's death. At the moment that he decided he would not let anyone or anything get in his way, someone, or more specifically something, approached him. Ryusuke receives a letter from the hospital, and is watched by something This little furball is known as Pepper Mint. He belongs to an alien race known as the Sugars, a race that travels from planet to planet, forming their civilization in a sort of "pocket dimension", a world of their own where they are never interrupted. They normally do not interact with humans, as they feel as though if they are discovered they must leave the current planet and move on to another one, but Pepper Mint decided to attempt to meet a human to become his "host". This is because the Sugars have an ability to become monsters, and lend this power to a host, and Pepper Mint had heard the story of Sugar Molass, another of his race who had traveled to Earth and found her host around this area. Pepper Mint, after coming into contact with Ryusuke, informed him of another alien race, known only as the Sky People. This was a dangerous race, unlike the Sugars, who travelled across different worlds to find places that had high amounts of Honkai energy. They would then take over said places, take all the Honkai energy to feed their own devices while also replacing all living things with their own devices. Ryusuke made it part of his mission to stop the Sky People, perhaps in an attempt to justify the intensity of his research to himself. Later, in 2005, Himeko had enrolled into the California Institute of Technology. She was studying Space Engineering, following in her father's footsteps, while also having become keen on following alien sightings and rumors of the sort. During her class under teacher Welt Yang, she received a notification for an alien sighting in New Mexico. Himeko receives a notification for a new alien sighting Welt Yang, as you may know, was not just any ordinary teacher. He was the sovereign of the group known as Anti-Entropy, as well as the Herrscher of Reason, a super powerful being. After becoming friends with Himeko accidentally, he saw this photo and immediately recognized it. It was not an alien, but instead the Arahato, a mech developed by Anti-Entropy. Of course, he couldn't tell Himeko this, as Anti-Entropy's actions, and the Arahato, were top secret. In order to protect the secret without allowing Anti-Entropy to hurt Himeko in any way, Welt decides to board the same plane as her, and they go to New Mexico. Here, Welt and Anti-Entropy do their best to cover up the Arahato's existence, eventually finding a way to fool Himeko by plastering up a movie poster for the upcoming Arahato movie (in a rush, the word "coming" was mispelled), which upset her as an explanation but she believed it and left. The Arahato movie poster All the while, Ryusuke Murata had his own plans. He had contacted Anti-Entropy, warning them that Schicksal was to use the 4th Divine Key and its immense power to attack them directly. He had requested that they give him asylum in exchange for information on how to stop this attack, to which the Anti-Entropy scientists, Tesla and Einstein, agreed. After meeting, they discuss the intel that Ryusuke had for them. He had brought a device for unlocking the 4th Key, as well as a document detailing its uses. Einstein shared her worries, as she had not found any information that hinted at the 4th Key even having any use as a weapon, but they took Ryusuke's gifts anyway, as he went to visit his daughter. Ryusuke meets with Tesla and Einstein Upon arriving to find Himeko and Welt talking, Welt feels a strong presence coming from Ryusuke. Though he didn't know it at the time, this was the presence of the Sugars' monster form. He decided to look into it immediately, even though Ryusuke didn't seem highly suspicious. Upon activating the device Ryusuke had given them, Einstein and Tesla found that the 4th Divine Key began releasing Honkai energy and creating a storm over Houston. As Ryusuke, who was spending some time with Himeko, received notification of this, he left in a hurry and met once again with the scientists, claiming that Otto, Schicksal's Overseer, had planted a trap in the device that would activate the Key if anyone attempted to stop it. After helping them break into the device's emergency shutdown, they are able to stop it, but the device's existence, and the fear of reactivating it in an attempt to break its code, leads to Tesla deciding to launch Anti-Entropy's special Anti-Honkai missiles, the Silver Bullet, against the 4th Divine Key to destroy it. Ryusuke, with a small and fast smirk, states that he knows how to find the key's exact location. Ryusuke offers to help find the key's coordinates Welt, having his suspicions about Ryusuke, decides to go to his house, where the two men are forced into an amicable conversation due to Himeko's presence. Eventually they are left alone, and Ryusuke introduces Welt to his alien friend, and his monstrous form. Ryusuke takes Welt into the Sugars' world, where they learn more about the Sky People. This is in an attempt by Pepper Mint to form an alliance between humans and the Sugars in order to stop the Sky People, not just from taking Earth, but to stop their plans entirely. However, the rest of the Sugars race is opposed to this alliance, and decide that they will leave the planet as they have been found out by humans. Pepper Mint explains some details of the Sky People As they leave this world, they find that Himeko has been attacked by the Sky People. Taken into Anti-Entropy's care, they find that she has been infected by them, and Ryusuke decides to reveal his intel in full to help his daughter. It turns out that his plan was to give the scientists of Anti-Entropy the wrong coordinates to launch the Silver Bullet, instead having it hit the asteroid the Sky People were using to survey and attack Earth. After having Welt use his powers to destroy this asteroid, it seems Himeko's infection recedes and disappears. However, Ryusuke is not done. He reveals to Welt that he had been investigating blueprints from the Previous Era, that detailed a project named Project Ark. He wished to create a spaceship that would be able to save a few humans and send them into space, in the meantime allowing the Sky People to take the Earth, or the Honkai to destroy it. Welt is obviously opposed to this, as a majority of humankind would perish as a result, but Ryusuke has become obsessed with the prospect of space exploration and breaking free from the limitations of the human race. He is even willing to sacrifice his daughter for this. In a fit of rage, he crushes Pepper Mint, killing him and taking his power for himself to battle Welt. Ryusuke crushes Pepper Mint Despite this monstrous power, Welt is able to defeat, and kill, Ryusuke. Himeko, completely unaware of any of this, or even her father's motivations, is later informed by Anti-Entropy that her father had indeed died. However, his actions, as well as his cause of death, are kept secret from her, being written off as some sort of accident. Himeko, however, is not so easily fooled, and has her suspicions that they may be covering something up. In the end, she decides to join Schicksal after finishing her PhD to find out what truly happened. Himeko's life in Schicksal Himeko was not someone with any special abilities. In fact, she had lower Honkai adaptability than most, she was taken in by a mentor, a woman by the name of Ragna Lothbrok. Ragna incentivized Himeko, believing that anyone can become a Valkyrie with enough effort, and Himeko was eventually able to become one, at the age of 19, considered late compared to the average person. In an effort to become stronger against the Honkai, Himeko received an artificial stigma, an implant given by Schicksal that enforced a person's capabilities, but, for Himeko who had low Honkai adapability, this stigma reduced her lifespan, slowly corroding her body. Ragna Lothbrok, as seen in a stigma art In 2010, the Valkyrie squad Himeko belonged to, with Ragna as its leader, was sent to subdue the Herrscher of the Void, who had reappeared 10 years after its initial awakening. Her entire squad was killed in front of her eyes during this mission, with Himeko herself being the only survivor. Shortly after, she decided to join St. Freya High School as a teacher, perhaps in an effort to not allow other Valkyries to end up like her squad. In 2014, the Herrscher of Thunder manifested for the first time in the city of Nagazora, and Himeko was sent to subdue and stop her from destroying the city. Here, Kiana Kaslana, Bronya Zaychik and Mei Raiden had all met and were traveling together, attempting to survive in the midst of a large scale Honkai attack on the city. However, the reality was that the Herrscher of Thunder had manifested within Mei herself. Himeko, using the Scarlet Fusion battlesuit, was able to match up to, and subdue, the Herrscher of Thunder. Himeko dons the Scarlet Fusion battlesuit Following this, Himeko and the principal of St. Freya, Theresa, persuade the three girls into joining the school and becoming Valkyries of their own, with Himeko becoming their main teacher, and leader of their Valkyrie squad. The Herrscher of the Void It turned out that the Herrscher of the Void had actually manifested within Kiana, Himeko's "favorite" student due to how much she saw of herself in her. In 2016, this Herrscher once again was released into the world, prompted by a plan by Schicksal's own Otto Apocalypse. Himeko was given a serum, known as HSN-b46, by Fu Hua. This serum had been created by a man known as Dr. Magi, when asked by Kiana to create an antidote to Himeko's Honkai corrosion. Kiana asks Dr. Magi to create Anti-Honkai serum for Himeko Himeko was led by Fu Hua's powers to find the Vermillion Knight battlesuit, a prototype of the Godsbane series which held a gem with Honkai energy close to the level of a Herrscher. This, combined with Himeko asking Tesla for help to create an anti-Honkai weapon using the serum, known as the God-Slaying Spear, would ensure that she'd be able to defeat the Herrscher of the Void. The Final Lesson (You can see the following section for yourself [here]( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dmvNGxYPCU)!) With serum in hand and equipped with the battlesuit, Himeko prepares to battle the Herrscher of the Void. Though she is continuously overpowered by her, she continues to fight, though completely unable to touch her. She continues to take attacks, and her corrosion worsening to the point of almost completing the process of zombification, but she does not stop, as she wishes to save her student. Himeko's face and body show signs of Honkai corruption In one final attack, using up the rest of her strength, and with a lesson to Kiana to always continue to fight and change the world in the way she wishes to see it, Himeko brings down her greatsword on the Herrscher and... misses. Well, seemingly. Himeko never intended to hit the Herrscher at all. After all, she is using Kiana's body, and Himeko does not wish to hurt her. Instead, all Himeko did was for one purpose only: to get close enough. At this moment, while the Herrscher is stunned before her brain can process what's happening, Himeko injects the God-Slaying Spear, with the serum, into the Herrscher, forcing her out of Kiana's body. Having used up all of her power, Himeko peacefully passes away, as the world created by the Herrscher of the Void crumbles around her. Himeko's journey ends after saving her dear student. Himeko stands, almost lifeless, over the Herrscher Himeko's journey ends here, but her legacy does not. Kiana would adopt her ideals, fighting for the beauty she saw in the world. Despite it not being perfect, she would fight to turn it into the world she wants to see. Kiana would eventually take on powers similar to those Himeko displayed using the Vermillion Knight battlesuit, fully solidifying her legacy. Finally, they hold a funeral for her, only having the pieces of her sword that they were able to recover. Himeko's sword fragments lay upon her coffin Full Circle 13 years later, in 2029, Welt Yang finds himself traveling to a spaceship owned by the Sky People, along with his "friend", Void Archives. I won't go into too much detail about Void Archives, as his identity and details are not important here. On this spaceship, they find the portrait of someone Welt recognizes: it's Himeko, but not the same Himeko he knows. Void Archives explains this is a Himeko from a world not the same as their own, and Welt decides that, since the Sky People were interested in her, she might be in danger, and he feels a sense of responsibility to help her. Star Rail Himeko's portrait, visible on the left side slightly cut out This leads to Welt and Void Archives, through yet unknown means, traveling to the world inhabited by the Himeko we see in Star Rail. From there, we know from lines in Star Rail that Himeko takes the both of them in, before Void Archives eventually leaves for some unknown reason, and that leads us to where we are today with Star Rail! Conclusion This ends the story of Himeko Murata! As always, some details were cut out to make sure everything fit in a decent length post. The last thing I want to point out is that, as you may have already seen, the Herta Space Station holds an easter egg to this story. Shards of Himeko's sword, kept as a Curio We can find the remains of Himeko's sword, as they were found in Honkai Impact. Though it's unclear how they got here or why, one can see that interacting with them while using Himeko brings some special dialogue, which you can see in the image above, as a small easter egg. This dialogue is a refence to a specific scene, the last scene in which we see HI3's Himeko, during the Everlasting Flames cutscene of the game. \"Turn into a moon that always tells the warmth and brightness of the sun\" Himeko appears one last time, within the flames brought about by Kiana's newfound powers. She smiles, before disappearing into the flames, solidifying her legacy within Kiana and her influence on not just her but the entirety of Honkai forever. This ends the story of Himeko! Thank you very much for reading, and I hope you've enjoyed! Himeko is a very important character, perhaps not for her own characteristics or actions, but she is both the reason Kiana, the main character of Honkai Impact, is who she is today, and also the reason Welt ended up on the Astral Express, and why the Express can even run at all! I look forward to see how her story and character will develop now that we see her on this new path! (As a side note, Himeko being keen on the Express and even able to fix it reminds me of a Himeko that continued to follow her father's path in being excited and fascinated by space, which is a very poetic thing, what do you think?) As always, feel free to leave any suggestions, corrections or comments you wish, and I'll respond to everyone! Besides that, I'll see you next time! submitted by DemiGodInsanity to HonkaiLore [link] [comments] |
2023.06.09 16:03 Independent-Rise-227 WiMi Hologram Cloud Developed An Efficient CGH Technology Based on Deep Learning and Neural Networks
BEIJING, Jun. 09, 2023/PRNewswire/––WiMi Hologram Cloud Inc. (NASDAQ: WIMI) ("WiMi" or the "Company"), a leading global Hologram Augmented Reality ("AR") Technology provider, today announced a new and more efficient solution for computer-generated holography (CGH) through deep learning and neural network technology. Deep learning can find the optimal or local optimal solution in operation, making it efficient to compute CGH. CGH has been applied to holographic light traps, 3D displays, planar concentrators, AR displays, etc.
CGH technology can obtain the best wave modulation by inverse-solving the custom light field. Image quality is limited by the accuracy of SLM modulation, which is usually challenging to represent the target light field. In practice, the solution of computational holograms is always approximate and numerical methods are needed to determine feasible holograms to obtain the best-encoded wavefront. The current computation in CGH usually uses iterative algorithms, and non-iterative methods are designed to save computation time by evolving the GS algorithm. Despite the improvement, these non-iterative methods always lead to poor image quality and low spatial resolution during reconstruction due to scatter noise, downsampling effects, and conjugate image interference. In using deep learning technologies, U-net structures have been tried on CGH problems with initial success, but the holograms obtained by U-net in computational holographic problems have the drawback of degrading the quality of reconstructed images. Traditional convolutional neural networks rely on convolutional filters and nonlinear activation functions, which means that the processed data are assumed to be linearly separable. However, problems such as image coding, holographic encryption, and frequency analysis are difficult to describe by linearly divisible functions, and simple convolution and deconvolution are always restricted to a certain region to improve operational efficiency. The inability of U-net to utilize and rewrite global information means that optical image processing is very weak.
WiMi has developed efficient computer-generated holography (ECGH) technology, a deep learning-based CGH imaging method, which aims to solve the problems of long computational cycles and poor quality of traditional CGH methods. The method uses a mixed linear convolutional neural network (MLCNN) for computational holographic imaging and enhances information mining and information exchange by introducing a fully connected layer in the network.
The network uses an MLCNN structure with line fork layers, a "DownSample" structure for down-sampling, and an "UpSample" structure for up-sampling. The technology uses a neural network model to calculate the input target optical field and computes the phase values to simulate the optical experimental results. The target optical field is compared with the simulation results using a loss function, and the gradient of the loss value is calculated and back-propagated to update the network parameters.
WiMi's ECGH method can quickly obtain the required pure-phase images to generate high-quality holographic imaging. Compared with the traditional deep learning-based CGH method, WiMi's ECGH technology can reduce the number of parameters required for network training by about 60%, thus improving the efficiency and reliability of the network. In addition, the network structure of ECGH technology is highly versatile and can be used to solve various image reconstruction problems, which has strong practicality and application prospects.
WiMi's ECGH images use a non-iterative deep learning model MLCNN, which can compute hologram generation faster. By successfully applying the ECGH method, high-quality and stable computational hologram images can be obtained. A major feature of the MLCNN structure is the ability to compute cross-region exchange of data, which makes it suitable for complex optical functions that require the manipulation of global information. Applying the MLCNN model in WiMi's ECGH technology can effectively handle the complexity of optical functions. The model can handle a variety of complex optical functions to generate high-quality holographic images. This holographic image can perfectly reproduce the 3D scene, giving the observer a more realistic visual experience. The MLCNN model has better optical domain adaptation than the U-net network structure. This gives it an advantage in holographic generation and reconstruction because it can better handle the complexity of optical functions and variations in the optical domain, and CGH can perfectly reproduce the ability of 3D scenes and prevent visual fatigue.
The ECGH technology developed based on the MLCNN model framework of deep learning and neural networks not only reduces the computational load but also improves the quality of holograms, thus making CGH more practical. In addition, the MLCNN model is highly flexible and can be adapted to different holographic generation tasks. It has excellent computational power and high-quality hologram generation capability. With the continuous development of technology, the ECGH technology of the MLCNN model will be more widely used.

E - Emergency Call x1
Triple Tactics Thrust x3
Cosmic Cyclone x3
Infinite Impermanence x1
Hey all! Today I have Toad Heros. I have for whatever reason always loved this deck. I sorta feel like it can maybe do well as rogue. I was hoping to put some like minded heads together to try to make this as consistent as possible! For those who don't know the goal is to end on Dark Law + Bahamut Shark + Toadally Awesome + if possible traps
Elemental HERO Stratos-I gotta be honest this is my least favorite hero in the deck simply because its not a water or Shadow Mist. I feel like its very rarely a good normal summon in this deck in particular.
Elemental HERO Liquid Soldier -This is a really nice newer card for the deck. It allows you to special summon Bubbleman for Shark but also Shadow mist to grab Mask Change. Really cool card.
Elemental HERO Shadow Mist-Standard
Tin Goldfish-Another really good card that does exactly what Liquid Soldier does but from hand. Both cards of course are a single point of failure
Elemental HERO Bubbleman-Standard
E - Emergency Call-Standard
A Hero Lives -Standard
Harpie's Feather Duster-Might not be good in main honestly
Reinforcement of the Army-Standard
Pot of Desires-Might be better to use a different pot...Kinda need your extra deck though not completely sold on Prosperity for this deck
Miracle Fusion -For your fun Zero-Acid combo
Ready Fusion-This is a really nice card for this deck. Turns bricks into well not bricks
Foolish Burial -Ditch Shadow Mist or Bubbleman and revive using Liquid Soldier
Book of Moon-Standard
Mask Change-Usually run at 3 but testing at 2
Infinite Impermanence-Standard
Solemn Package-Standard
Masked HERO Acid-Standard
Elemental HERO Absolute Zero-Miracle Fusion Target probably need to cut one
Masked HERO Dark Law-Standard
Masked HERO Blast-I never go into this but its nice to have
Rare Fish-Ready fusion target
Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder-I love this card in this deck more so than any other deck for some reason
Bahamut Shark -Standard
Abyss Dweller-This card is really good in this deck. Its an alternative to Dark Law if you can't reach him and its +500 attack for your water monsters....so itself....and Shark....and Toad
Toadally Awesome-Standard
Xtra HERO Wonder Driver-Same as Blast
Nibiru, the Primal Being-Necessary These days
Elemental HERO Stratos-Just in case I need another again probably don't need this
Elemental HERO Liquid Soldier-Number of Liquid Soldier is highly up for debate
Droll & Lock Bird-Standard
Cosmic Cyclone-Standard
What do you guys think? Like I said I want to try to make Toad + Dark Law as consistent as possible. Let me know if you have any ideas!

2023.06.09 15:28 TheTalkedSpy "Dating" by Jeffrey W. Hamilton
Source: Growing Up in the Lord: A Study for Teenage Boys (Ch. 7, 1994) If you haven’t done so already, you will soon decide to take a girl out on a date. Dating a girl is a good time to enjoy the companionship of someone else. Women have a different perspective on life.
When you take different girls out on a date, you have a chance to see who is available. You also have a chance to firm up in your own mind what you will be looking for in a wife. Most boys go through a phase where they cannot stand any girl, except mothers who are tolerated within limits. When these boys reach adolescence, they quickly realize that girls can be interesting.
Taking a girl out on a date gives you a chance to practice getting along with women. Girls do not enjoy being treated the same way you treat other boys. The time you spend dating gives you a chance to learn how to act around a girl.
You need to be choosy about whom you will be going out with. Some girls will understand that, because you are a Christian, there are certain things that you will not do. Many girls will enjoy the fact that they don’t have to be constantly on their guard while they are with you. However, there are girls who will use every opportunity they can find to try to get you to do things that are sinful. It is a challenge for them to see how far they can get you to go. For your own soul’s sake, you are better off not dating such a girl. David warns us, in
Psalms 1:1, not to associate with sinners. By continually exposing yourself to sin, you are tempted to commit a sin. That is why Paul said evil companions will corrupt your good morals (
I Corinthians 15:33).
Group dates are a good way to start out dating when you are young. If you pick your companions wisely, there will be fewer temptations in your way. A group gives you a chance to get acquainted with several people at once. You can also observe how the other guys treat their dates. Perhaps your first date won’t be so awkward when it is shared with others. Some good outings with a group may be to go bowling, play a few rounds of putt-putt golf, go canoeing, have a picnic and play softball or volleyball, or gather a group of young people together after church to eat ice cream.
Before you head out, spend some time thinking about what you will talk about during your date. In our society, boys tend to think and talk in terms of actions. Girls tend to think and talk about feelings. For example, if a boy and a girl were talking about an Olympic event, the boy would be interested in the score and the types of moves the athlete made. The girl would be interested in how the athlete was handling the stress and the athlete’s reaction to the scoring. Neither viewpoint is good or bad. They are just different. It is those differences that make conversation on your first date so difficult. Spend some time thinking about what you would like to know about this girl you are dating.
One day, all too soon, you will begin dating to find someone suitable to be your lifetime companion. If you want a companion, you must learn to be companionable. Talk about your interests and find out about hers. Do you enjoy similar things? If the two of you don’t have anything to talk about, what would marriage to such a person be like?
Make plans for the evening in advance and let your parents know where you expect to be. I know that many of you would rather keep your plans between you and your girlfriend, but you never know when an emergency may come up. Telling your parents also gives you a chance to see if your plans are respectable and appropriate. If you are too embarrassed to tell your folks, then perhaps you are planning something that a Christian ought not to do. Continue to carefully examine your motives.
Once you are out on your date, avoid changing your plans at the last minute. Don’t let your emotions lead you to making a little detour to a quiet place where you can be alone with your girlfriend. It is a great temptation to go too far when there is no one around to see what you are doing. Don’t go parking in the dark. Even if the first few times you don’t do anything shameful, it is continually tempting to go a little farther and to get a little closer. If you want time to talk, find a well-lighted place with other people around. It will encourage you to act respectfully. Finally, don’t spend time at your house or hers when no one else is around. Many boys and girls find their own home comfortable and safe, so they relax their guard and do things they would not do in public. Most teenage pregnancies come about because a boy and a girl had sex at home. Somehow, people convince themselves there is no harm done if no one will see them. Don’t let Satan fool you!
In a few years, one person that you have dated will stand out among the others. You will find yourself going out with her more often than anyone else. You may even decide to stop dating anyone else. Dating only one person is called “going steady.” Going steady with a girl for a while is a logical step before asking her the big question. It gives you a little more time to finally decide if this is really the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. Just don’t rush into it too soon. You can’t make a good decision if you only dated one person your whole life. There are plenty of years ahead of you, so don’t limit yourself to one person too soon.
You know you are ready to go steady with a girl when you have dated other girls but you prefer this person’s company over everyone else. When you want to spend more time with this person and dating someone else will interfere with your time, then perhaps it is time to go steady.
However, if you feel pressure to date one person exclusively because everyone else is doing it, then you should reconsider. Some boys rush into going steady because they fear there won’t be anyone else. This is another poor reason to go steady with a girl. There are hundreds of girls in the world with whom you could happily live. Don’t get the idea that there is just one right person for you. Take your time. Marriage is a lifetime commitment, so don’t rush the preliminary stages. Another bad reason for going steady is to hold on to a “good catch.” Some people pride themselves on having the prettiest or smartest girl in school as their exclusive girlfriend. Remember our discussion about the pride of life. Date a girl because you like her and not because you like the admiration of the other boys.
As you get comfortable with that special girl, keep in mind that there is a real temptation to take liberties with her that you would not take with other girls. Now is not the time to break God’s law because you allow your emotions get the better of you. Far too many teenagers allow their emotions to flare and find themselves tempted to have sex during their date.
A common excuse given for having sex on a date is that you need to find out before hand if you are compatible or not. You could have sex with any girl. How familiar you are with having sex has nothing to do with compatibility. You should not be looking for a bed partner while you are dating. You should be looking for someone to share the rest of your life with. Once you and your girlfriend are married, you will have plenty of opportunity to learn how to have sex. There is no benefit gained by breaking God’s law and having sex before you are married.
What is Love? I’ve often told you in this book that various feelings and reactions are not love. Having an erection doesn’t mean you are in love. Wanting to have sex with someone doesn’t mean you are in love. The actual act of sex is not love, although it is called “making love” in today’s slang. To understand what love really is, we need to turn over to
I Corinthians 13:1-7.
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become as sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophesy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. I Corinthians 13:1-7
Paul is explaining what true love between Christians is like. The description also beautifully describes what the love between a husband and wife should be like.
When you love someone, you are willing to put up with their faults. You understand that people make mistakes and that changes take time, if they come at all. Even when she says something mean to you, you will only return kindness back. Love involves trusting the other person with all your heart. You don’t envy her when she gets a big promotion at work or is honored for the things she has done in the community. Instead, you rejoice with her. A loving husband doesn’t boast about how good he is and ignores his wife’s accomplishments. What you do is much less important to you than what she does. If you truly love someone, you won’t say things that will hurt her feelings. She is much more important to you than your own concerns. As a result, you will keep a tight reign on your anger and not lash out when things don’t go your way.
Loving couples don’t accuse each other of wickedness. Too many marriages are broken because the husband saw a man leave the house or found some note and immediately leaped to the conclusion that his wife is having an affair. However, sometimes it is obvious that sin is taking place. When this happens, a loving husband will stand firm with the Lord. He will do everything possible to bring his wife back to the way of righteousness.
Being in love means you are optimistic. You are always hoping that things will get better. That hope helps you to get over the many rough times that you and your wife will face together.
Most of all, love doesn’t fail. Planning to marry someone for a time to see if it will work out means you are not in love. You don’t fall in and out of true love. Love holds on through good times and through bad times.
The Difference Between Love and Infatuation
Many people confuse being infatuated with someone for being in love with someone. Each of us has a mental picture of the ideal companion. That mental picture is usually based on various physical attributes. She should be so tall, with a pretty nose, brown eyes, etc. Occasionally you meet someone who closely matches your mental ideal. You get excited and believe you have fallen in love at first sight.
This is not really love, but infatuation. You can tell the difference, because infatuation dies over time. I guarantee that while you are moonstruck with a girl you won’t believe that it will ever end, but it usually does. As you get to know the girl and find out about her likes and dislikes, you realize that she is not as perfect as you
imagined her to be. The word “imagined” is the key word. You have no idea what a person is like when you first meet them. Getting to know a person takes time.
Over time an infatuation will either die off or be replaced by true love. When you are truly in love, you will be aware of a person’s flaws, but you have made a rational decision that you can live with them. A person who is infatuated with someone will either be totally unaware of the flaws in that person, pretend that those flaws are not there, pretend that those flaws don’t matter, or believe that they can change that person over time. The last attitude can be disastrous for a relationship. People do change at times, but it is not very often and it is rarely because someone caused them to change. People change themselves because they want to make the change. When you choose a woman to be your wife, you should look at who she is and not who you think you can make her into. If you do not like who she is today, you are taking a big risk thinking she will be different tomorrow. In other words, if she doesn’t change before marriage, then she certainly won’t change after marriage.
Talk freely with your intended companion. Some men are afraid to tell their girlfriend everything they are thinking for fear of driving them away. If your true thoughts would drive your girlfriend away, then the two of you were probably not cut out for each other. Both of you would be better off looking for someone else. Nothing could be worst than to find out you have made a lifetime commitment to someone who can’t stand you.
In summary, true love is based on reality. Infatuation is based on fantasy. Before committing yourself to someone, make sure you both have a firm grip on reality.
A Small Exercise
Take a sheet of paper and write down the things that you hope to find in the woman you will one day marry. Is it important that she be good looking? Does it matter to you if she is taller than you? Do you hope she is a good cook? Should she like children? How many children do you hope to raise? Give it serious consideration and don’t base your answers on someone you are dating at the moment. It would be better to work on this when there is no one in particular competing for your heart. Talk to your dad or an elder or the preacher about it, but make sure that it is
your list showing what is important to you.
Try ranking your points. What is the most important? Which things would be nice, but really don’t matter that much?
It may seem a little early to start thinking about whom you plan to marry. After all, marriage is still several years off. However, if you know what you are looking for, then when you finally meet the girl of your dreams, you can be confident that you are making a sound decision that you will never regret.
Have a rough list done before you start chapter 8. Through the years, continue to revise your list. The things that are important to you at 13 may seem childish at 18, so continue to think about these things.

I am very disappointed and demotivated.
Have you been through a similar phase? What can you advise?

2023.06.09 14:42 VirtuousFool_ Instrument of Ill-Fate: A LitRPG Adventure [Chapter 02]
First Chapter 02: Awakening
Zaire's heart pounded within his chest as he sprinted, his eyes fixed on the shattered skies, unleashing thunderous roars and jagged bolts of lightning.
Cold soil crunched under his boots, and dust and ashes flew on the frenzied winds, coating his cloak. The thunder rumbled, yet not a single drop of rain fell. This desolate land bore no trace of life. The churning clouds formed a vortex high above, while a chilling gust swept relentlessly across the land, frigid like the most haunting night of the fall.
Zaire ran, stumbling along the frigid path, occasionally casting wary glances over his shoulder. The absence of any pursuer didn't calm him down even a little. Only barren and desolate terrain, with the ominous outline of the black mountains and the swirling clouds, reigned in his sight. No soul could be found in this forsaken land.
However, an intangible presence pursued Zaire, an entity both eerie and malevolent, its deranged cries reverberating in his ears. Even as he rushed onward, the pursuer seemed to draw nearer, cloaked in madness. A step away from claiming him.
In his desperate dash, Zaire tumbled to the ground, the chill of impending horror creeping up his spine.
"You cannot hide," the voice hissed, its tone murky and ghastly. "Not then. Not now."
Zaire sensed the abyss beckoning below, threatening to engulf him, its unseen tendrils grasping at his limbs. His body convulsed, his muscles seizing under the weight of impending doom. The voice called out once more, luring him deeper into the drowning abyss.
As his willpower began to succumb, tears streamed down Zaire's face, his trembling fingers desperately clawing at the frigid earth. It felt cold and unyielding, slipping from his grasp.
Zaire awoke.
Zaire jolted upright, gasping for breath. Tremors racked his body, while his spine remained cold, drenched in a clammy layer of cold sweat. A searing pain lanced through his mind as if a sharp blade pierced his thoughts.
Gasps clawed their way out of his parched throat, as he stared into the thick darkness looming over him. Common sense assured he was safe, that it was all a dream, a wretched nightmare, but Zaire’s heart didn’t stop racing. The harrowing terror etched to his very core, it all held true in his mind.
Gathering his strength, Zaire sat up and leaned against the cold wall beside the bed. His body was weakened and weary, but he managed to calm his heart after going through the breathing exercise his mother taught him.
His heart stopped racing, but the foreboding feeling lingered in his mind.
Zaire rose from his bed, the creaking of the old furniture accompanying his movement. Proceeding cautiously, he made his way to the bathroom. He eventually found a lamp on the way, emanating a faint glow as he ignited it, tracing the switch upwards.
Guided by the lamp's glow, Zaire entered the bathroom and spotted a bucket of cold water nearby. Zaire seized it, acting on an impulse, and poured the entire contents of the bucket over his head. That brought some semblance of peace within him.
All worry and pain subsided, save for the unfamiliar chillness in his right palm. He put his attention on the palm to find a black tear mark across the palm. He peered deeper into it, pondering what could be the cause of that when a voice transmitted to his mind, followed by shimmering system text, glittering in a green light, stunning him completely
[Synchronisation completed.]
[Congratulations! You have awakened Emerald Aether.]
A surge of warmth coursed through his body. The relentless throbbing in his head softened, and just as Zaire prepared for the authenticity of this development, an influx of unknown information surged through his mind.

"This is real!?" Zaire muttered, his voice filled with disbelief. He unconsciously drew his palm towards the shimmering system window, attempting to grasp onto its ethereal shimmer. However, his fingers phased through the holographic text, though the text didn't dissipate.
"Did my second dip into the Ascendant Pool work?" Zaire cracked into tears, collapsing onto the damp tiles of the bathroom floor. Unconsciously, he clenched his palms into fists, pressing them against his face as the system window vanished into thin air.
Zaire opened his palm once again and peered into the cracked tear mark, only to witness the same System window expanding before his eyes. To dispel any doubts or delusions, he repeated the process of clenching and unclenching his palm, each time successfully opening and closing the system window.
He wasn't done checking out the system. Having waited his entire life, and even an extra year compared to others, he began to read its contents. He reached the end of the contents pretty easily, but his excitement was far from quenching. Zaire peered deeper into each tab, hoping to get more explanations of them.
Multiple system windows materialised before his eyes, expanding to unveil detailed information about various aspects of his existence.

Zaire stopped, his eyes lingering on the last line. Fate Points were the most necessary points to learn and grow Spells, Skills, and Abilities. He was delighted to gain 1000 points on awakening, which was an above-average number as far as he was concerned, but he wasn’t so sure about the last line.
Pissing in the temple doesn’t seem like something that will gain me fate points, not that I ever do such a thing. Even if he was Faithless somehow, his mother brought him up better to be considerate of people’s faith and belief. He simply wouldn’t do something unfaithful to her just for some momentary gain.
Of course, ignoring what he did to gain his Route yesterday.
That brought him back to the description of Faithless. That line was completely vague and meant nothing as far as he was concerned.
Zaire ignored all the tabs with information on all the attributes, as they were self-explanatory. He moved on to his abilities.
[Aether Binding:
Your Hidden Route Mage enables you to bind Emerald Aether and cultivate them.

Zaire couldn’t help but sigh, finding only 2 points in Aether. With that, he couldn’t even try to learn the simplest spell. But his dejection didn’t remain for long. It was merely the start.
"I'd strip the freaking moons from the sky if I have to," Zaire said, clenching his palm into a fist.
“Zai, are you in the bathroom?” Ella’s voice broke him out of delight, bringing him back to reality.
“Yes,” Zaire replied, and got out of there, unaware that he was about to get an earful for his stunt at the temple.
He found her standing just a few paces away from the bathroom door. Tall, towering over him even though she was barely a few inches taller than him.
“How are you feeling?” She asked, her eyes scanning him.
“I’m good,” Zaire answered, his voice laced with delight. “Never felt this good in my life.”
Annoyance flashed across her face as she heard him. “Are you really alright?” she asked again.
“Yes.” His drenched form wasn’t making his case any easier.
“Fine, wipe yourself and change, we need to discuss something urgently.” Ella walked away, her demeanour showed she was particularly irritated.
Zaire had a bad feeling about this. Hoping that his success might quell her stifled fury, Zaire shouted at once: “Mum, I succeeded, I awakened my Aether.”
Ella stopped, turned and peered at him with narrowed eyes. “What are you talking about?” she questioned. “My [Inspection] tells me no such thing.”
“What!?” Zaire blinked, stupefied. Was it because it was a Hidden Route
“Zai,” Ella’s voice softened as she came forward to soothe him, “I understand why you did what you did. But in life, you need to accept the truth as it is.”
“Mum, I’m not really—”
Ella silenced him by embracing him, unbothered that he was drenched. “My boy, I understand.” Ella’s voice was soft and soothing, a stark contrast to her usual behaviour. “After I’m back from the trip, I’ll bring you to a special place. There will be people who can help you. Of course, you can’t be a mage, but you can be as strong as any regular Ranger or Knight, and even surpass me.”
Zaire didn’t struggle in her embrace and listened to her carefully. It seemed there was no way for him to prove his credibility as a mage unless he could cast a spell. But Zaire was still a few steps away from there.
“Wait, are you going somewhere?” he asked.
“I don’t know if you’re aware, but Faye awakened Dream Aether,” Ella said, releasing him of the embrace. “You know what that entails.”
“She has to join the Empire’s Academy,” Zaire said as realisation dawned on him.
“And ten years of service in the empire after graduation,” Ella added.
The rules were pretty strict for those that awakened Emerald, and Dream Aether, though the same rule applies to those with Gold, Red, or any other type of Aether if they joined any of the Empire’s academies. Of course, fighters with Red Aether had to qualify in the tests to be admitted into the academy, unlike in the cases of Emerald and Dream Aether, the number of people awakening them was so scarce that they admit whoever awakened them. While the churches had special demands for those with Gold Aether.
“Your sister is torn between delight and sorrow that she will be leaving,” Ella continued. “But you know her, she’s inclined to learn more about Aether and her power. And I cannot stop her, or the Empire, from taking her.”
Zaire nodded. “When are you two leaving?”
“Now,” Ella said. “The screening process has already started, but the people in the Snowfeather Academy will take her even if it takes two days for us to reach there. Go to your room and get ready quickly. The carriage will leave within half an hour."
Ella busied herself with the preparations. She had been making their meals before finding Zaire in the bathroom.
"Mum," Zaire eventually replied, "I think I’ll remain home."
Ella paused, turning to face him fully. "Are you certain?" she asked, her voice filled with concern.
Zaire nodded.
"You'll be fine, won't you?" Ella inquired. "I suppose Faye will understand, although she'll be disappointed."
"Yes, Mum.".

2023.06.09 14:40 deletinglateron I am so tired and feel so lost in this marriage
Salam everyone. To get a better understanding of my issues in my marriage, please refer back to my older posts. I am so tired. Our issues consist of: my husband not being as romantic/affectionate as me, me being “too emotional” for my husband meanwhile my husband lacks so much emotion and emotional support for me, him being very avoidant and shuts down during issues, me being very anxious and want to solve issues immediately, feeling like he always has one foot in and one foot out and not fully committed to trying to make this work. He’s always saying “we just aren’t emotionally compatible” when I try SO hard to make this work by telling him that we both have our own issues that we need to work through for the sake of ourselves and our marriage. I’m tired. I’m so so tired. Recently, the past month, new issues have occurred. He nitpicks EVERYTHING. He knows how much his words effect me and how much I try to impress him, whether it’s with how I cooked a meal, cleaned the house, dress up, anything. And I always feel like it’s never good enough for him. He’s always looking at what I didn’t do. Or how I could have done better. He’s also starting to use hurtful words when we argue now like “I feel like I’m raising a child,” or yesterday he said “why do you make it so hard to live with you.”
Let me backtrack yesterday. We came back from a mini trip a few nights ago that I helped pay for and planned over half of it on. Although we had some bumpy moments, we had fun overall. I feel like it helped us grow closer. The next day, I could already feel him acting off over text when I texted him “hello my love, movie and date night Friday?” I’m already planning the next romantic thing I could do for him. His responses didn’t meet my expectations but I let it go. When I saw him after we both finished work, he still seemed a little off. I tried to let it go but it got the better of me and I asked him “is everything okay? You just seem off.” He got bothered and said “there isn’t anything wrong. I don’t want this to be so hard.” I just don’t appreciate his response when he is fully aware how much I overthink and how anxious I can get. I Apologized and told him “maybe you’re just tired, so am I.” Because we were pretty sleep deprived from our trip. We ended up falling asleep together really early, and he helped me get ready for work the next day because I was running late, which I thanked him for. Then during work, I emailed him some Muslim therapists because he promised me he’ll try one last time with counseling in order to improve our marriage. Again, over text I just felt so off by him. It just didn’t feel right. I let it go and met up with a friend after work, which I told my husband about a few days prior and he was totally okay with it. As I began driving home from work, I get a message from him with a picture and in a laughing way telling me I opened something wrong even though he explained it to me before. I got a little triggered. He does lots of things wrong but I don’t always point it out. Especially since he knows we’ve recently been having an issue with him nitpicking everything I do. I texted him apologizing, telling him I tried, and that I don’t remember him telling me how to open it. He responded so so dry, so I asked again “babe is everything okay? You don’t usually text me like this.” He tells me everything is perfectly fine. I come home and things are just off, so I just leave it and give him his space because I know that’s what he likes. I then bring it up again asking why is he acting this way towards me and he makes me feel like I’m crazy for feeling like this. He told me that he’s just tired and that me consistently asking if everything is okay makes me “difficult to live with.” His words truly hurt me so much. I went to bed while he was in the kitchen and I noticed he never came to bed. I go to the living room and he was sleeping on the couch. I asked him why he was sleeping on the couch and he told me it’s because he needed to be up early and didn’t want to sleep in our bed in fear of “getting too comfortable.” Let me also mention that I messaged him during work today to tell him how isolated I’m feeling at work because of how some of my coworkers have been treating me. So I’m already feeling isolated and lonely at work, so when I come home I just want to feel wanted. Him sleeping on the couch was my last straw. I went back to bed and cried myself to sleep, begging Allah (SWT) for his mercy and help. I’m tired of feeling like I’m nothing to him. I’m tried of him seeing how hurt I am and it doesn’t even phase him.

2023.06.09 14:28 LilacDream98 My (27F) boyfriend (26M) can’t express his feelings
Me and my boyfriend have been together for 6 months now and it’s been going great for the most part. But now the honey moon phase is over, I’ve noticed a pretty glaring issue that he can’t express himself.
I’m a very expressive affectionate person and never hold back from telling him how much I love him, how nice he looks and initiating any form of physical contact (hand holding, hugging, kissing, sex etc). My boyfriend actually said I love you first but now I’ve noticed he only says it (along with other affectionate things and physical contact) when I initiate it first.
I’m also quite a paranoid and insecure person so not being able to get that reassurance from him of his feelings is really starting to hurt me. I’ve brought this up a couple times in a non-confrontational way. Explaining that he needs to give me what I need so I can feel more confident in the relationship and asking why I can do to help. He is aware of it, always apologises and says he’ll try but there’s no progress so far. I was crying to him the other night about this and he still couldn’t tell me he loved me.
He opened up to me a while ago that these issues stem from his last breakup and are rooted in fear. He didn’t realise they existed until we got together (his last relationship ended a year before we met). He has a therapist (as do I) so he’s trying to work on it for me, which I appreciate. And I’m trying to support him and be patient. I’ve also suggested alternative ways to express his feelings for me but nothing has worked so far. (More suggestions on this would be good.)
This issue has taken focus even more lately because my boyfriend is about to move away for a summer job. I’m worried it’s going to be really hard for me to do long distance without verbal affection. I rely on the physical elements a lot to reassure me so without that, I’m scared.
So I’m at a limb here, I love him so much and want to make this work but I’m really struggling. How can we navigate this?
