I live in Nassau county Long Island
I am in the process of researching so I can buy my first bike. I am considering used Harley Davidson street 500 or 750 or Kawasaki Vulcan 650.
How important should it be in my decision making process to have a good repair shop for either of these brands close by? From what I can see online there aren’t many places to take a Kawasaki in for a repair near me. Does anyone know a place on long island I would be able to go to if I needed a repair to a Kawasaki?
Also for used bikes are there any good extended warranty companies that are readily accepted by repair shops on Long Island?

Hey guys, just got my learners this morning but kind of in a bind? I have never rode a bike. My Harley Davidson dealership in town doesn’t offer classes like most. We only have one MSF class and it’s booked full till October. I also have no friends with a bike. How do I learn?? I can buy a bike but I can’t drive it home since I’ve never rode anything on two wheels. I guess I can get a scooter and drive it legally to get an idea of two wheels but I feel like that’s a waste of money? Advice?

How dangerous is traveling on side streets around town honestly? My mom crashed a Harley Davidson when I was a kid and broke a kneecap and had her pinky hanging off her hand. I am considering buying a Honda CH80, which I would probably almost never go maximum speed on. I probably wouldn't ever go past 30-35mph just to honestly, but 20-25 on a normal day. I'm planning on buying one because I am not the best driver and I don't need/want to insure a car.
Do you think these things are safer than motorcycles?
What kind of protective gear should I have besides a helmet?
Motorcycles seem unsafe enough to the point that I would never ride one, should small scooters be considered the same?

I will have quite a lot of free time this coming fall and winter and I've been an avid motorcycle rider for about 25 years. I can do the basics like change my oil, brakes, etc, but I've never rebuilt an engine, carb, or mounted a transmission or anything of that nature. I'd like to rebuild a bike as my fall/winter hobby so that I can learn. I'm thinking a harley because it feels right and I don't have a cruiser anymore (1200 gs now) and I'd like to have one that I "built"/rebuilt.
Do you have a recommendation on why that might be a bad idea and maybe an import would be better, and if not, do you have a recommendation on what kind of motor / harley model would be good for learning on? Something that will be nice and reliable when finished, but not too overly complicated to dive into. I have rebuilt and restored 1980s models John Deere lawn tractors so I'm not complete foreign to the general ICE concepts, just nothing as complex as a motorcycle.
