2023.06.10 22:20 Outrageous-Plum-4540 Still in standby after powering on

I received PTO and powered on my system yesterday. My app still shows that my home is in β€œstandby” and no power is being generated. It only shows how many kw my home is using. We flipped all breakers on, inverter is lit up green. Watched the videos and did all the troubleshooting. Reset the breakers.
How long does it take to start producing energy? We have panels only, no power wall.

2023.06.10 21:44 Jayy8Bit Blender 3.4 Extremely Slow, New Install, New PC

As the title says, Blender is extremely slow. Even if I just have a default cube, every time I make a change, the program freezes for a few seconds to a few minutes. I've tried a fresh install, even tried installing on another HD. Same issue. Disabled add-ons as well and still have the same issue. I saw somewhere about an OpenGL file in the install directory that causes issues, but I do not see that file. Any advice?

Dissecting the 1350w R15 PSU (into a R13)
Hello friends.
Back at it again with another PSU dissection. If you havnt seen the previous post about the 750w and 1000w R13 psu, it can be found here:
https://www.reddit.com/Alienware/comments/128ivl7/dissecting_the_r13_psu_750w_1000w_r15_1350w/

We all know that the R13, 14 and R15 have proprietary power supplies. Although they are proprietary, it doesnt mean they are no "upgradeable." Luckily for us, a 1350W version exists. of corse, because they are proprietary, you have to pay for play. so you cant expect to spend $300 on something like a mass produced 1200w corsair ATX PSU. alibet, its honestly not that much more. My 1350w psu was purchased from aliexpress and it was $330. after tax and shipping, the total was $357. which in the grand scheme of things, is not much more than a comparable ATX PSU in the same wattage range.

So what are the reasons why you may want to "upgrade" to a 1350w?

  1. you run an aftermarket 4090. after market 4090 are 450w TDP, so a 1000w is enough. but if you paid nearly $2000 for a GPU, youre most likely going to want to overlock it. Thus, you will want to access its full 600w TDP. the 1000w wont allow you to do that but the 1350w will. the 1350w will be more than enough to accommodate any transient power spikes as well, where as the 1000w is still questionable.
  2. you want to run the power within its peak efficiency. Most PSU's peak power efficiency is around the 50-70% load. This is where you get your "80 plus platinum" rating from. running a PSU near redline will not give you that efficiency, and it will great a lot of heat and noise (from fans going bonkers).
  3. you want massive power overhead because you have more lights and gizmos and fans for your alienware. now they isnt applicable for most people but if you have 9x T30 fans, 4X server fans, 2x D5 pumps etc... youre gonna want to make sure you have extra power overhead.

So we'll first start with the difference of the 1350w PSU (compared to the 1000/750w).

https://preview.redd.it/z5wjxduwh85b1.jpg?width=2348&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dfbcc1011f6ce52f6c8892140b14ae3a6426dc06
As you can see, this is a 12V ONLY psu. unlike ATX, it does not provide 5v or 3.3v. this means that the PSU is innately more efficient compared to most ATX PSU. There are 3 rails:
12VA (42Amps) - this is for your CPU. it allows for "up to" a total of 504w to be send to your CPU and its needs.
12VB (35Amps) - this is for your MOBO (that 10 or 12pin mother board plug). this is to power your acccessories, SSD/HDD, fans, lights etc etc. up to 420w.
12VC (72Amps) - This is for your GPU. thats 862w that that GPU can use. This is MORE than enough for any 4090 and prob 5090 or 6090. this is really what you got the 1350w psu for. add that with the 75w from the PCI-e slot, and you have a total of 937w of power that can be used for your GPU (862w+75w=937w).

For reference, the 1000w psu's 12VC (gpu) is only capable of 36A, which is 432w through the PCI-e cables. you will get an additional 75w through the PCI-e slot, making it a total of 507w for your GPU (432w+75w=507w). this is enough for a stock 4090 or ANY 40 series card. but not enough if you want to fully utalize the 600w TDP of an overlocked 4090.

The second difference will be the ATX pin connectors. the R13 only needs 2 while the R15 needs 3. The 1350w psu as 3. if you are using it on an R13, you will only use 2 (any two since they are pinned from the same source).

https://preview.redd.it/8xi5p9j3k85b1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b85393b616dd5d3b05ac2b9198ff02dd9bfc9422
The third difference is the motherboard pin plug. The R13 (750w/1000w) uses a 10pin connector. the R15's 1350w uses a 12 pin connector. The extra two pins are just PSU check plugs. You can still plug the 1350w into the 10pin R13 motherboard. you will just have two pins not in use. it works.

https://preview.redd.it/8v1jx2b5k85b1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=50dc8048729d19a691f3c6dfd2a051b9b804f959

for all you wondering, thats dielectric grease. It should be put on ALL connectors that plug in something.

https://preview.redd.it/vmb9ifuhk85b1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ae676677179bee574ad1260a4f9293b9fec1e28b
The fourth difference is the PSU power plug. The R13's 480w, 750w, and 1000w use the same standard 3 prong (NEMA 5-15P to IEC-320-C13). The 1350w is different. It requires a NEMA 5-15P to IEC320 C19. and you have to make sure it is rated for AT LEAST 15A (15A @ 120v). basically it will need to be at least 14awg wire. if you live overseas, you will need to get a proper cable to accommodate for the 240v systems you use.

https://preview.redd.it/ogasvxsll85b1.jpg?width=1576&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=51e3ffc1f4f37db9ce9b836b2ab49db5e561901f
The fifth and final difference will be your GPU PCI-E connectors and wires. On the 750/1000w, you have two sets of 8 pin PCI-E connectors. each of those have a built in splitter for 6pin connectors. essentially, you have have 2 dedicated sets of 8pin cables. The 1350w and 4 dedicated 8 pin connectors. this is a huge difference is power delivery capability. you can safely use any 4x8pin to 12VHPWR adaptor to power your 4090 or 40series cards. Interestingly, dell still uses 18awg cables for all their PCI-e cables. each 18awg cable can handle 9amps. there are 12x 18awg cables for the 8pin plugs. thats 108Amps (1296w) that "can" be sent through those cables. thats why dell didnt need to use 16awg cables (like in most 12VHPWR cables).

https://preview.redd.it/s4h3ekj9m85b1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b25ae3a046b5974c858ead1bb11bcd8e4d7256a5

Next, lets look into the internals of the PSU. Here is what the internals look like:
1350w:

1350w internals
Im not an electical engineer that builds PSU, so i wont comment anything on the build quality. But from my observations, it looks very similar to the 1000w internals. Im sure it has much bigger components though (caps, ICs, etc etc)..
Surprisingly, the fans for the 750, 1000 and 1350w are all different. 1350w uses fome foxconn fans.

https://preview.redd.it/6ggxne5wm85b1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b3cfbfaf2345d5403d716b0a50e4ce5cfd14a1ca
The side panel that controls the mobo's on/off and status:

https://preview.redd.it/0wcpfcz1n85b1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6433cb21e7f4334ceba7e00f7ef2f7bbd1e99566

https://preview.redd.it/lso2di75n85b1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5191dfbc2f33fc3d1d7ea37385d45b103e981078

Here is the pinnout for all the 12v cables from the 1350w psu.

https://preview.redd.it/2epgm9gcn85b1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=987078ab431e499f533efb42db9adb4ccd728afa

https://preview.redd.it/0d008bxdn85b1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9e2faa0dfc18a26acfdb25547f44c7fd9153375a
This is usually where the discussion ends. But if you seen my previous 1000w PSU mod, i dont do 8pin to 12VHPWR adaptors. i prefer a direct native connection. and thats what we will do to this.
First you will need to trace the wires according to the pinnout.

https://preview.redd.it/gbhvrr5rn85b1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b0855e9908d5de59de90c91741410a38a031826
Then you will have to choose your 12VHPWR cable. for me, i chose one from SEASONIC because seasonic is a known quality brand. quality 16awg wire in a quality outter wire casing.

https://preview.redd.it/cjda4k0io85b1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4796a66f103b599dfac150abac46d69e98c0a207

Splice them and connect them correctly +12v to +12v; ground to ground. DONT SCREW THIS UP. if yo do you will blow out your computer and PSU. check, double check and then check again. i use marine grade heatshrink because the glue inside the heatshrink makes them waterproof (or as waterproof as possible). so no dust or stuff will get in and possibly short anything.
DO NOT SCREW THIS STEP UP

Then start sleeving everything because we dont do half a** work. not around here partner.

https://preview.redd.it/e891xgbip85b1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7a06db9486f9b46d676fae8a36bcc23b0cf46f0e

more sleeving:

all 600w+ into the 4090. two things to remember:
  1. dont forget dialectic grease
  2. plug it in ALL the way. if you dont, you will become a statistic of a burn 12VHPWR connector.
https://preview.redd.it/npx71odrp85b1.jpg?width=2523&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ea5f14ca2b4f0339241654abafe924e1e2fce438
all done:

https://preview.redd.it/cn0n3op3q85b1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=644fa4aebd8fbb7193a1e572f83fc44526457f1f

Before, i had the 1000wf or a few weeks, i was able to avg 490-500w according to HWinfo while benchmarking.

now it shows that my MAX GPU power consumption has gone up to 580w in HWINFO. so its a win for me.
My R13 still draw no more than 800w according to the power meter on my UPS. so i am right within the 60% power usage of the 1350w and am in the peak efficiency bandwidth of the PSU. PSU runs quieter as well. even under stress/bench, i cant hear it, and my system is also dead silent since both CPU and GPU is watercooled.
In warzone, i was able to bench +8fps avg on the same OC settings and game settings. This is definitely simply from the GPU able to use up more power.

Thanks for reading. Feel free to ask questions (keep in mind i am not an electrical engineer so if youre gonna ask me the difference between the farads between the various capacitors in the PSU, im not going to know).

2023.06.10 21:09 gravedee Pre-PTO utility meter shows export or draw depending on which split phase (hot leg) is drawing the most power

For context I posted this about a week ago and this is a follow-up after further troubleshooting.
In summary, I'm in So Cal, on SCE, residential single-phase utility power, pre-PTO with a 11.2 kW of solar, Powerwall+ with 7.7 kW Tesla Inverter, Powerwall 2, and Gateway 2. The app settings show Self-Powered and 'No" for Permission to Export. Backup reserve is set at 20% and I've never been below 35% since May 5. I have stayed under 7 kW of electrical use since May 5 except for 1 hour. So theoretically, virtually all of my power should be coming from solar / battery. Despite this the utility says I'm using 8 kWh on average per day, which is a lot of power! Tesla App shows 0 grid usage. Direct api monitoring via the https://github.com/jasonacox repo software shows 0 grid usage.
In the process of troubleshooting I found that the meter is showing a draw (positive wattage, i.e. "spinning" forward) when I have a load running on one split phase / hot leg, but showing an export (negative wattage, i.e. "spinning" backwards) when I have a load running on the other split phase / hot leg. The amount of wattage the meter shows, positive or negative, is equal to the net difference in loads between the two split phases. In the troubleshooting process I was able to turn on loads on each split phase to effectively zero the meter out to show no draw or export. Any 240 volt load will not show up on the utility meter because 240 volt loads evenly pull power from both phase, so it's a net zero at my meter.
Is this normal or indicative of a problem? What type of problem? I should not be drawing power, and I should not be exporting, so it has to be a problem, right?
I sent all this to my certified installer and am waiting for a response, but hoping someone with some experience or expertise can tell me I'm not crazy in thinking something is really wrong.

2023.06.10 18:57 ArchLx Odd Behavior from SolArk Inverter

Hi Everyone,
So, I have a question regarding my SolArk inverter. Just for context, I live in Puerto Rico (big grid issues at times), and I have a SolArk 8K Inverter set up with 12 340V solar panels.
The inverter works fantastically in almost every situation. However, there is one particular context where it displays really odd behavior, and the company that services my system has not been able to address it in the past.
When grid power is there, but notably low (say 105 or lower) and outside of the system's protection/reconnection parameters, the inverter sometimes tries to connect to the grid anyways. It detects that the voltage is too low, so it cuts it off (creating a short window where everything in the house briefly loses power). It continues to do this for a while until it generates either an F18 [AC_OverCurr_Fault] or F34 [AC_Overload_Fault] error, and then it shuts off for a couple of minutes. Until it reboots entirely, we're completely blacked out (or worse, left directly connected to extremely low grid voltage) in the house, and if the low voltage continues after it reboots, the cycle starts again (several short hiccups, followed by an error and a shutdown).
If I switch the manual transfer switch outside off (to completely cut off the inverter from the grid), the problem disappears, and everything behaves normally (this is how I narrowed it down to low power). My understanding is that the inverter should be aware that the grid has inconsistently low voltage, and it shouldn't try to reconnect to it, avoiding this situation altogether. I imagine it's some setting in the inverter, but I haven't quite figured that out yet.
I set the parameters to Low V 110 and Reconnect to 30S (it was originally set at 108V and Reconnect 0.16S), but it still exhibits the same behavior even after that change. Any thoughts/suggestions? I would really appreciate it.

2023.06.10 18:38 RohlfingWildlife Wave 2 will not turn on when connected to AC outlet

I have a vanner lifestar inverter charger that I have the wave 2 connected to, I have plenty of battery capacity remaining (~800ah) and yet when I plug in the AC cord to the outlet and to the wave 2 and attempt to press the power button nothing happens. I tested with a typical wall outlet in a house and it works no problem.
Do I perhaps need a different inverter to run the wave 2?

2023.06.10 18:07 svrounder Neural bus in Multiplus installation

Hi all,
I’m installing a Multiplus 3k 120 12v inverter charger aboard my sail boat. I have a pretty simple 30 amp AC shore power set up β€” in addition to the two pole ECLI breaker for the main AC panel I have a sub panel for the 15 amp outlets and another sub panel for the hot water heater.
I know to keep the neutral from the Multiplus’ AC separate from the my boat’s neural common bus. (This is to prevent any nuisance tripping if the marina shore power pedestal has a ECLI breaker).
But is there any issues if I use a common neutral bus for both the Multiplus’ AC 1 and the AC 2 outs?
Hope that make sense. I can post a diagram if helpful.
Thanks much!

2023.06.10 17:58 CrystalWolf9 PSU for Rtx 4090, ATX 3.0 or nah?

Hello everyone
I am currently building a new pc and I have purchased almost everything except for the PSU and the motherboard
I am very confused on what to get as a power supply, i am thinking 1200w should be ideal since well, how often do we change our PSUs anyway ? So might as well get something that is futureproof
But the thing that is i am quite confused whether i should get a ATX 3.0 or not, since the only one i found that fits my budget is the " Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 1200W " which i have heard many complaints about how noisy it is.
So am i better off grabbing a 1000w instead or 1200w but not ATX 3.0 ?
and how safe are the ATX 3.0 anyway since they're relatively new ?
Here are my parts for reference: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/WkDfJM

2023.06.10 17:56 TCFranklin Pc turns on and off after 20 seconds.

Pc turns on and off after 20 seconds.
Hi all,
I built my very first PC, but am experiencing some issue with it shutting down after about 20 seconds. Included is a pic I could take of the BIOS before it shut down, the CPU temp reaches 85C before that happens.
Afterwards it only turns on for 0,1 seconds, unless holding the power button untill released. Switching the PSU on and off solves this, but only for the same thing to happen again.
What could be the cause? Thanks in advance!

2023.06.10 17:50 Maertese Auto logic switch for two 20-amp appliances

0
I would like a logic relay box/device that will allow one plugged in device to run but only if the other is not running. Example: the refrigerator is running - the room air conditioner powerline is disabled. The refrigerator stops running - both receptacles receive power. The room A/C comes on - the refrigerator receptacle is de-energized. The purpose is for controlling the load to a small backup inverter generator while sleeping. I don't know if there is already a device that does this, and I just don't know the proper search term to find it or if someone has a DYI idea they wish to share. Thanks to anyone that replies. If this is not the proper forum to post on, let me know and I'll remove it.

2023.06.10 17:27 TCFranklin Updated Bios now PC won't boot, shuts down and shows fTPM/PSP issue

Hi all,
I built my very first PC, specs listed: ASUS ROG STRIX b650E-F mobo 7800x3D CPU 7900xt merc 310 black GPU Corsair 32GB DDR5 6000mhz RAM AMD-tuned Deepcool LS720SE AIO Be Quiet! Pure Power 12m 1000w PSU Corsair 5000D Airflow case Dual Dell G2723HN monitors
The monitors are plugged in the GPU through the DP-ports, yet the monitors show 'no DP signal from your device'. Quick Google-search led me to a possible issue which was that the BIOS wasn't updated.
After updating, the motherboard had a continuous orange light. Turns out my RAM wasn't installed correctly (a1 and a2 instead of b1 and b2). Dumb, I know.
After re-installing the RAM correctly, and booting the PC the MOBO LED's turned orange, red, white then green. The screen worked and showed some message about BIOS and LED's. Then the PC turned off, and will only turn on for a second when pressing the power button. Or if I hold the power button, but it will stop immediately after releasing it.
I turned off the PSU, and switched it back on after a while. The PC turned on and did the same thing with the orange, red, white and green LED's. Then the message on the screen was:'New CPU installed. fTPM/PSP NV corrupted or fTPM/PSP NV structure changed. Press Y to reset ftPM, if you have BitLocker or encryption enabled, the system will not boo without a recovery key. Or press N to keep previous fTPM record and continue system boot. fTPM will NOT enable in new CPU, you can swap back to the old CPU to recover TPM related Keys and data.
Pressing Y leads me to the option to go into the BIOS, which works for a while. This is the BIOS screen. Cpu temp goes to 85 then the pc shuts down again. BIOS SCREEN

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

2023.06.10 16:42 MehmetHc Where and how should I connect the DC power source? Where should I connect the output (Out) and with which component in Proteus? And how should I perform the measurements in the end? Someone help me :/

Where and how should I connect the DC power source? Where should I connect the output (Out) and with which component in Proteus? And how should I perform the measurements in the end? Someone help me :/
I think I have set up the circuit given to me in Proteus (but I'm not even sure if it's correct). This circuit is described as "a simple and stable square wave oscillator (clock) circuit created using two CMOS inverters connected to a DC power source ranging from 3 to 18V."

The requested circuit

Circuit I prepared in Proteus

I am required to present the output signal in a scaled manner. I believe I need to vary the DC voltage source from 3V to 18V step by step and show the signal change individually for each voltage level.
Electronics is not my main area of expertise, and I have no idea how to proceed. Can someone please explain step by step what I need to do? Where and how should I connect the DC power source? Where should I connect the output (Out) and with which component in Proteus? And how should I perform the measurements in the end?

2023.06.10 14:26 RainforceK Rate my build

Hey there, I'd like to get some feedback on my new build. My priorities with this build is to make it future-proof (besides the motherboard which I got at a discount) and to stream games on it hence why I went with the 7800X3D, but also due to its incredible gaming performance. I'll also be playing 1080p for now. The reason I didn't invest much into my GPU is because I plan on upgrading that with the next generation of cards because I don't see the memory on the current mid-to-high tier GPUs to be sufficient enough and I only got a 1080p monitor anyway. Feel free to criticize my decision on this as well. There is just one thing I'm not sure about and it's on how to solve the SoC voltages on the 7800X3D being too high which was big news a month ago. Do I update or flash the BIOS or does it come updated and/or do I manually adjust the voltages? Thanks in advance.

CPU overheating to 90-92c, hoses have no vibration. Replaced with MSI MAG 240mm cooler. Still Issues
I've had this build for a little over a year with no issues and recently I started playing Starship Troopers: Extermination. After about a week my computer started getting the "CPU overheating" message when I would boot up or shut down. I put new thermal paste on it and that fixed the issue for about a day. Next day same thing. Checked the hoses and did not feel any vibration and seemed like It was not working correctly so I replaced it yesterday with an MSI MAG 240mm AIO. Now with the new cooler I can tell that it's running and can feel the hoses but the CPU just shoots up to 100c immediately and then try to climb to 110c. The plastic was removed on the copper pump, everything is plugged in correctly and powered on. Does anybody know what would cause this kind of issue all the sudden?
