This probably sounds stupid, but whenever I play any type of game with cars in it like Forza, NFS, etc... It goes to DND and says "driving mode" ? Maybe it does it all the time, but I usually notice it while playing racing games. Anyone else notice this or am I delusional

Just a bit of background, I got a new job about a year and a half ago. Finally updated my PC around that time with everything except the GPU because of scalpers. Now that the market is better, I am between a 3090ti, 4080, or 4090 (since the value makes sense, but I would probably have to get a new case right?)

2023.06.05 04:29 SonOfPIunder The skill ceiling in AOE2 is ridiculous compared to chess
The skill ceiling in AOE2 is ridiculous compared to chess
My Dad taught me AOE2 when I was younger, and I'd play once every few months or so. I was decent at the game. I feel like most people know the basics of the game, and for people who played as much as I did, I tended to win. I was comfortably better than most people. I rarely 'stomped' people, but I won more than I lost. When I joined voobly in graduate school, my rating was about 600 on random map. Think about that. "better than most people" equates to 600 on random map. I have been consistently playing for a bit over a year now, and I just broke 1400 on Definitive Edition yesterday. I am a good player. I'm not a great player, but I am a good player. According to the percentile I am better than 97% of the players on AOE2 DE. This isn't being better than 97% of all people, this is being better than the 97% of people who were serious enough about the game to play ranked online (granted, that's not a high bar, but it's still a bar). I'm good. I stomp people now. If I played my 600 rated self I would decimated them (me?). I have a 700 team-elo legend friend who I'll play without advancing to the imperial age, and I'll still beat her more often than not. (yes you read that right - I have a friend who is a girl!)
I am not *HALF* as good as the top players. There are people in this world who are consistently breaking 2700. That is ludicrous. I am more likely to lose to a 200 low-elo legend in a fair game than I am to beat TheViper if you let me start in the Feudal Age. People like to make fun of Mr Yo and MBL for not winning big tournaments, but they are competitive at the highest possible levels. Hera's peak rating is 2844, and TheViper’s peak is 2813. And those are Definitive Edition ratings, which is way more competitive, not HD so it's not even a fair comparison. Daut memes around online and is still so good at this game that he literally does "starting the game with four minutes of idle time runs" to the **pro** level *for content.* In-freaking-sane. It blows my mind how good people are at this game. If I plug myself into an Elo odds calculator vs Hera The computer gives me 0.999999665 odds that Hera wins, and 0.000000602 odds of him disconnecting. If you put that into a calculator and add them together it comes out to a rounding error. Count the 9's on that bad boy, there are 6 of them. That is literally less than 1 in a million chance.
/anarchychess is twice as likely to end up making an original joke. Here's a fun website showing other things that have a 1 in a million chance of happening
https://www.stat.berkeley.edu/\~aldous/Real-World/million.html. I can name 7 famous people, go to wikipedia, hit "random article" and have a greater chance of immediately landing on one of those people than I do at having a chance of beating Hera.
A 600 elo difference equates to about 1 in 100 odds, which we will call "stomping territory." So if we start with my original 600 rating which is *already better than most casual players.* Then a 1200 stomps a 600, an 1800 stomps a 1200, T90Official stomps an 1800, and T90Official gets beaten by Hera93% of the time. Hera playing my 600 rated self is like my boss's boss's boss's boss coming in and telling me I'm doing a bad job. The CEO of Walmart circumventing the regional, district and general mangers to fire the greeter at the local store.
Blows my mind. Chess is so easy in comparison. If I had a solid month to study, I could beat Magnus Carlson.

The 50 Best Video Games of the Atari Era
Want to see the best games before this era? Check out this list which was compiled by Reddit users' nominations and votes over an entire year:
https://www.reddit.com/retrogaming/comments/o4drau/best_video_games_of_the_atari_era_poll_final/ What Was Eligible To Be Nominated:
- Any Arcade coin-op game from 1985-1988.
- Any Computer game (any PC system) from 1985-1988.
- Any Home Console game from the 3rd Generation (regardless of year published unless it is a port): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_generation_of_video_game_consoles
- NO SNES games, NO Sega Genesis/Mega Drive games. Those systems aren't retro enough for this poll.
- NO Sonic. NO Streets of Rage, NO A Link to the Past, NO Super Mario World. Those games aren't retro enough for this poll.
Exceptions:
In general, the original year published takes precedence. No games that played betteare more iconic/are more remembered in an earlier or later era.
"Sonic the Hedgehog" was released for Sega Master System, but as a port, it was made for the Sega Genesis, so it is not eligible for this poll.
"Tetris" made its biggest impact with 35 million copies sold for the Game Boy, in the next era, so it is not eligible for this poll.
Arcade ports like the original "Mario Bros.", which hit arcades in 1983 are not eligible for this poll, even though they were ported to home consoles from the next generation.
1984's coin-op “Punch-Out!!”, was more iconic/more remembered as 1987's “Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!” on the NES, which is now eligible for this poll.
Instances like this can be debated. I think it's best to allow all games from a console to be designated to one era, and for games to appear in one era poll only.
The Idea:
Comparing, say, Pong and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, is not useful. It's like arguing which is better: the Ford Model T or the Space Shuttle? But comparing games of their era is interesting and fun! Usually, best game polls are limited to a single system. This poll is unique because it includes all platforms from the era together. How will the best arcade, computer and Master System games compete with the best that Nintendo had to offer? It will be interesting!
Why Only Arcade and Computer Games from 1985-1988?
The 3rd Generation of home consoles launched in the West with the NES in 1985 and changed everything. The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive launched in 1989, began the 4th generation of home consoles which will begin the era for the next series of polls after this concludes.
The Criteria:
I'll leave it up to the individual to decide. Innovation, quality, influence, iconic status, how much fun it was then, how it holds up today, are all valid. Whatever games you love, whatever games you want to see named as the greatest of the era.
What Happens Next:
Next week we will move on from the NES/Master System Era to the SNES/Genesis/TG-16 Era, for a new set of polls.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote in the polls and nominate games in the comments section.
This will be a series of polls I hope to hold every week for a long time! Have fun everyone!

2023.06.05 04:21 svet_sedov SVET Markets Weekly Update (May 29 - June 2, 2023)
In Week 22, job openings increased, but the unemployment rate experienced a jump. AI follies, along with renewed expectations of the Fed not raising rates, helped drive tech stocks higher, and NASDAQ (o:13109, c:13240) managed to close the week with gains. Meanwhile, BTC (o:27919, c:27239) continued its downward drift amid a shrinking money supply.
Notable Macroeconomic Updates:
Unemployment Rate (May): 3.7 percent (fact), 3.5 (consensus), 3.4 (previous); JOLTs Job Openings (April): 10.103M (fact), 9.375M (consensus), 9.745M (previous); ISM Manufacturing PMI (May): 46.9 (fact), 47 (consensus), 47.1 (previous); Case-Shiller Home Price MoM (March): 1.5 percent (fact), 0.4 (consensus), 0.3 (previous); Dallas Fed Manufacturing Index (May): -29.1 (fact), -25 (consensus), -23.4 (previous).
World’s Updates:
Spain: The country’s consumer price inflation dropped; Italy: Producer Price Inflation for April decreased; Russia: In April, the country’s economic performance showed positive growth; Germany: Country’s consumer price inflation in May dropped; France: In May, consumer price inflation fell; India: Country’s economy expanded; South Korea: In May 2023, the consumer price index in the country saw an increase; Mexico: In April, the unemployment rate increased. On Tuesday, the Shiller Home Index jumped to a one-year high, the Dallas Fed Index sunk, NASDAQ (o:13109, c:13017) corrected, and BTC (o:27919, c:27861) ranged.
The Dallas Fed Business Activity Index for manufacturing decreased to -29.1 in May, the lowest since Q2 of 2020. The production index turned negative, while the employment situation improved, reflecting managers’ upbeat optimism. Meanwhile, the March Case-Shiller Home Price Index rose 1.5 percent MoM, the highest increase since May of 2022, with house prices increasing by 0.5%.
Other Markets Updates:
Spain: The country’s consumer price inflation dropped to 3.2 percent in May (previous: 4.1, consensus: 3.5) — the lowest level since July 2021. This decline was primarily driven by a decrease in fuel and food prices.
Italy: Producer Price Inflation for April decreased to -4.80 percent from -1.50 percent in March.
On Wednesday, NASDAQ (o: 12,968, c: 12,935) and BTC (o: 27,072, c: 27,010) continued to drift sideways on technicals, additionally suppressed by unexpectedly improved job openings.
BLS reported a surprising rise in job vacancies in April, reaching 10.1M, surpassing expectations of 9.375M. This rebound from the previous month’s low of 9.745M suggests a tight labor market, potentially leading to more interest rate hikes by the Fed. Job increased in a retail (209K) and transportation (154K). Regionally, job openings increased in the West (236K), Midwest (137K), and South (20K), but declined in the Northeast (-34K).
The Beige Book came out, indicating an uneven distribution of economic conditions. Some sectors, such as commerce, showed a contraction of activities, while others, like airlines, continued to expand with higher wage being requested by new candidates.
Details: Labor market conditions in some sectors are improving, with better success in hiring seasonal workers in agriculture and hospitality sectors. However, labor constraints and worker shortages are still present in other sectors, including healthcare and retail. Wage pressures remained elevated, with some industries continuing to pay above-average salary increases to attract and retain qualified workers.
Manufacturing output growth in Texas experienced a lull in April, with new orders continuing to fall. Airlines reported high ticket prices amid strong demand and constrained supply. Firms in infrastructure and other heavy construction reported generally stronger activity, while firms in industrial and commercial construction reported some softening.
Other Markets Updates:
Russia: In April, the country’s economic performance showed positive growth, increasing by 3.3% compared to the same period last year. This follows a revised contraction of 0.7% in the previous month. Notably, it represents the first monthly expansion in the economy after experiencing 12 consecutive months of decline, partly influenced by the comparison to a low base effect from the previous year.
Germany: Country’s consumer price inflation in May dropped to 6.1% YoY, down from 7.2% the previous month, and below the expected 6.5%. This marks the lowest rate since March 2022, primarily driven by slower increases in energy and food prices.
France: In May, consumer price inflation fell to 5.1% YoY — lowest level since April 2022 — down from 5.9% the previous month, and below the expected 5.5%.
India: Country’s economy expanded by 6.1% YoY in Q1 (expectations was 5%), and higher than 4.5% in Q4 2022. This growth was primarily driven by private consumption, services exports, and manufacturing, benefiting from reduced input costs.
On Thursday, NASDAQ (o:12944, c:13100) rose by 1.2 percent due to Representatives passing the ceiling bill and Fed members hinting at a pause. BTC (o:26947, c:26867) followed suit during the after-market.
At the same time, fundamentals continued to worsen. In May, the Manufacturing PMI dropped to 46.9 from April’s 47.1, below the predicted 47, marking the seventh consecutive month of decline in the manufacturing industry. New orders and inventories contracted, while production saw a rebound and employment increased at a faster rate. Additionally, there was a significant decrease in price pressures.
Philadelphia Fed President Patrick Harker suggested that the central bank might forgo a rate increase in the upcoming meeting. However, he emphasized that the choice to maintain current interest rates should not be interpreted as the conclusion of the tightening phase.
Other Markets Updates:
South Korea: In May 2023, the consumer price index in the country saw a 3.3% year-on-year increase, compared to a 3.7% rise in April, showing a continued easing for the fourth consecutive month. This marks the lowest level since October 2021. The Korean central bank halted its interest rate hikes at the April meeting after raising rates by a total of 3 percentage points.
On Friday, NASDAQ (o:13190, c:13240, +0.3) experienced an increase fueled by an ongoing micro-rally in tech stocks, supported by the BLS reporting rising unemployment and diminishing concerns over the Fed raising rates. BTC (o:27095, c:27239, +0.5) followed suit, although it remained constrained by a tight money supply and low demand from retail buyers.
In May 2023, the unemployment rate rose to 3.7 percent, reaching its highest level since October 2022 and exceeding market expectations of 3.5 percent. Despite this increase, the jobless rate remained historically low, indicating a tight labor market. The number of individuals who were unemployed increased by 440 thousand to reach 6.10 million, while employment levels saw a decline of 310 thousand to 160.72 million.
Other Markets Updates:
Mexico: In April, the unemployment rate saw a rise to 2.80 percent, up from 2.40 percent in March.
In Week 23, apart from the Services PMI for May published by ISM on Monday, not much macroeconomic data is released. Markets are expected to be volatile as traders adjust and readjust their positions before the June 14th FOMC rate decision. Additionally, technical indicators’ leading algorithms will react to the proximity of major index prices to important resistance levels.

2023.06.05 04:17 GetReadyToRumbleBar Played 10 Different Mini Golf Courses - Lost Treasure Best Overall Course in Ocean City
Just came back from a trip to Ocean City, Maryland and surrounding area to play too much mini golf. Over 3 days, my wife and I did 10 courses and I wanted to do a quick write up.
TL:DR - Lost Treasure was the best in OC. Embers Island also fantastic. Look for coupons. How we rated:
All courses were 18 holes, some locations had 2 courses on 1 property, each being rated independently. No Old Pro, we did most of those last time and prioritized newer (to us) courses.
We rated each course in 4 categories on a scale of 1 to 5, to create an average course score. This included:
A) Hole design/sport element/competition
B) Landscaping/beauty
C) Theme elements/narrative/immersion
D) Course enjoyability (Shade, location/geography, quality of setup and supplies, ease to walk through, clean/neat/no debris on the greens, employees care, passion seen throughout the course, etc.)
Our scores:
Viking Golf: 3, 3, 4, 4 = avg 3.5. Very well kept, refurbished pretty recently. Fun, unique theme, clearly a lot of whimsy and love went into making this course. Employes care and it shows. Good holes. Looking retro but well kept. Unusual theme, would go out of my way to play again.
Nick's Down Under (Australia): 3, 1, 2, 1 = avg 1.75. Pretty terrible. Very hard walk to through (lots of changes in step heights without clear indication, no clear paths, we joked it was full of "ankle breakers"). Worn, broken props and elements, bad hole design, no good landscaping. Just bad, so many flaws. This an old course without retro charm.
Buccaneers Booty (?) - Game World: 2, 3, 3, 4 = avg 3.0. Very nice course, looking a little rough though. Some of the big themetic elements need some TLC. A landscapist needs a day or 2 to spruce it up. Even in its rougher state, a very fun course to play. Clubs were very worn and sticky (?).
Lost Treasure - Diamond Course: 4, 4, 5, 5 = avg 4.5. Excellent course, lots of love. Gorgeous course to play and take in. Diamond better than Gold. Fun animatronics and design. So clean and neat, the staff deeply care and it shows. Great clubs. Employees were great! Very satisfying plunks when getting the balls into the holes.
Lost Treasure - Gold Course: 3, 4, 5, 4 = avg 4.0. Another excellent course, a step below Diamond. More challenging holes. See Diamond above.
Embers Island - Pirates Course: 5, 4, 4, 4 = avg 4.25. Excellent course, Pirates is better than Volcano. Cannonball effects not working, but per an employee, they should be fixed later June 2023. Great clubs. Employees also great!
Embers Island - Volcano Course: 4, 4, 4, 4 = avg 4.0. Excellent. Holes were well designed. Wish the fire and smoke effects on the volcano were working again. Animatronics not all working, probably due to sheer age but not due to staff neglect necessarily. Coupons online?
Nick's Maui: 2, 3, 3, 3 = avg 2.75. This course replaced the original Maui Mini Golf, very sad. All that gorgeous tropical landscaping and fun holes have been replaced with a shadow of its former glory. They kept some of the original theme elements, like the iconic sign. Holes are easy. Shallow hole issues. Why flags in each of the holes? Trash on on the ground. Lots of holes in ones, which suggests the hole design was too easy or straightforward. Nick has coupons.
Nick's Beachball: 3, 2, 3, 3 = avg 2.75. Fun if easy. Nice big umbrellas for shade. Nick uses cheap, plastic holes that are much too shallow. We had multiple instances where the balls popped out of the hole. That should never happen. Like other Nicks, each hole had flags in each hole. The ball would bounce back due to the flag staff in the way.
Nick's Dino & Mining Co.: 3, 2, 3, 4 = avg 3. Animatronics rough, most clearly damaged and no longer moving. Theme confusing? (Mining and dinos?!) Some holes were challenging, but clearly from a lack of thoughtful design. Flaws throughout but the best Nicks of the 4 we played. Nick needs to stop storing supplies in plain sight, looks crummy. Blue water at all Nicks just reminds me of toilet water. Balls and clubs more worn, like all Nicks.
Ranked in order:
1 Lost Treasure - Diamond, 4.5
2 Ember Island - Pirates, 4.25
3 Lost Treasure - Gold, 4.0 (tied for 3)
3 Ember Island - Volcano, 4.0 (tied for 3)
4 Viking, 3.5
5 Buccaneers, 3.0 (tied for 5)
5 Nick's Dino and Mining, 3.0 (tied for 5)
6 Nick's Beachball, 2.75 (tied for 6)
6 Nick's Maui, 2.75 (tied for 6)
7 Nick's Outback, 1.75
Hope this write up is helpful! There are some great mini golf courses in Ocean City and its well worth the trip to go play them.

2023.06.05 04:13 Practical-Magic20 I knew Temu was sketch! Copy and pasted from original.
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT regarding the shopping app TEMU ... Radio talk show hostess, Kim Komando, did some digging about TEMU and this is what she found!
Seemingly overnight, everyone’s talking about Temu (pronounced “tee-moo”), an online shopping app that boasts deals that seem too good to be true, like $17 wireless earbuds, $1 “gold” necklaces and $23 wedding dresses. Over 50 million Americans have downloaded Temu since it launched state-side in September 2022, after it gained traction with expensive Super Bowl ads promising to let you “shop like a billionaire.” Today, Temu is the most popular shopping app in the U.S. behind Amazon. But most of us don’t know much about the app’s true origins. Reader Daniel Mayer asked an important question, “Is [Temu] something we should be concerned about?” So, I did some digging. And as it turns out, yes, you absolutely should be. Here’s what I found: Where did Temu come from? This isn’t some fly-by-night operation. Temu is based in Boston, Massachusetts, by PDD Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: PDD). PDD is headquartered in Shanghai, China. PDD also owns the e-commerce platform Pinduoduo headquartered in — you guessed it — China. So, Temu is a Communist China-based app and site. What you need to know before using Temu First, you’re buying goods directly from manufacturers in China and other parts of the world. That’s why shipping times are often 12 days or longer. The prices are low because the goods are cheap. The pictures of what you see advertised may not be what you actually get. Temu’s BBB rating is 2.21/5. Reviews at TrustPilot are interesting, with 38% 5-star reviews and 41% 1-star reviews. But that’s not the worst of it. Temu is downright dangerous. The app is a clever, pervasive digital stalker. As you shop, Temu monitors your activity on other apps, tracks your notifications and location and changes settings. 🛑 It gets worse. Temu gains full access to all your contacts, calendars and photo albums, plus all your social media accounts, chats and texts. In other words, literally everything on your phone. No shopping app needs this much control, especially one tied to Communist China. If you’re using Temu, delete the app from your phone ASAP. On iPhone, Long-press an app, then tap Remove App > Delete App. Tap Delete to confirm. On Android, touch and hold an app, then tap Remove App > Delete App > Delete. Pro tip: If you downloaded Temu, to be safe from Chinese spies, you really need to do a full factory reset. But wait, there’s more! Temu’s sister app was removed from Google Play because of malware. Do not buy from this company, or use their app!

2023.06.05 04:09 vulpecula19 Opinions on this build? Anything I should change before ordering? 5800X, 3060 Ti, 32GB RAM
Finally upgrading from a 10+ year old rig and have my parts list planned. Will be primarily used for 1080p gaming with some web browsing. I was originally going for a 5600X but am leaning towards getting the 5800X instead (I think the 5600 would be enough but would rather go longer without needing to upgrade).
Budget isn't a hard set limit but would rather not spend a whole lot more than the current list. Monitor, peripherals etc are already acquired. RAM and SSDs are already on hand. Fan price is for 6 fans total, didn't see a way to change quantity without adding 6 different entries.
Open to suggestions and things to reconsider! Not my first build, but it's been a very long time.

2023.06.05 04:02 T-A-W_Byzantine Looking to build my first PC, what can I improve?
I'm upgrading from a 6 and a half year old prebuilt desktop computer, so I want to start fresh and try my hand at building my own. Here is the list of parts I've compiled so far:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/skpDDq I live in the US, so all prices are in USD.
AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 4.5 GHz 8-Core Processor - $315.75
Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black 82.52 CFM CPU Cooler - $119.95
ASRock B650E PG RIPTIDE WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard - $239.99
Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-5600 CL36 Memory - $92.99
Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive - $139.00
Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 6800 XT 16 GB Video Card - $514.99
Corsair 4000D Airflow ATX Mid Tower Case - $94.99
Corsair RM850x (2021) 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply - $149.99
Total - $1,667.65
I'm looking to game at 1440p and 144Hz. I want dual monitors, but I haven't decided if I'm going to get two 1440p monitors or keep my 1080p 60hz monitor as a secondary one, so I'm leaving that off the cost right now. The rest of my accessories are pretty much settled. But I'd appreciate a second opinion on these parts I've picked!
I hear the 7700 (non X version) is a bit weaker but uses a lot less power for the same price. It also comes with its own cooler. So if I used the 7700X with the NH-D15 vs 7700 with stock cooler, which one would have lower temperatures?
Also, I don't think a 7000 series AMD graphics card would be that necessary for me for the cost. I play most triple A or "cinematic" games on my console with my TV, so I'm mostly looking for FPS. I've heard that strategy games like Civilization and Europa Universalis that I play tend to be more CPU-bound, so I think I'll get by with a last gen GPU.
I think I've really done my research but I'm still nervous, so if anyone else has any input it'd be much appreciated!

2023.06.05 03:50 LGN_22 New user, bed mesh problem, printer.cfg file inserted for review
| I'm rebuilding a refurb CR-10. It has a Manta E3EZ board w/CB1, Sprite Pro extruder with CR Touch, an AC bed heater, and a 1/4 aluminum bed with magnetic PEI sheet. I added dual Z motors, and a top mounted z-sync belt. The z-motors each use one of the two z-ports on the board, they work together and can't be independently controlled (this is possible using the E1 driver). I got Klipper loaded via the instructions that came with the Manta board. All x-y-z movements seem OK now, I had some problems with z but I think I'm mostly past them. When I first set this up, the probe was hitting the bed on the second z measure on homing. I set the z-hop higher and also added in a section I found on this board for the CR Touch. This allowed me to run a 4x4 bed height map. I added bed spring positions and dialed them in close before I added the PEI mag base. I ran bed_springs_adjust (manual bed level) with a piece of paper and got the gap close. My z-offset seems way too high as well. Here's the problem: The bed height map shows the bed is like 5mm low on the right side (picture attached). It's clearly not that low. https://preview.redd.it/712rgeu0r34b1.jpg?width=1879&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=41842b1fa6a0bd3aafd4a16dd270d8df79d8e6b6 I'll paste my printer.cfg file here for reference. # This file contains common pin mappings for the BIGTREETECH Manta E3EZ # To use this config, the firmware should be compiled for the # STM32G0B1 with a "8KiB bootloader" "8 MHz crystal" # and "USB (on PA11/PA12)" or "CAN bus (on PB12/PB13)". # See docs/Config_Reference.md for a description of parameters.
