2023.06.10 05:21 bamwich Confused about Lian Li Lancool 216RX Fan connector
Today I built my first pc and overall it was a success. However, I’m a bit confused by what seems like a discrepancy between what the manual for case the indicates vs. what I’m seeing on the actual component.
For context, I’m using the Lian Li Lancool 216RX with ARGB fans (without the optional controller) and the Gigabyte Aorus Elite V2. My goal is to plug the 3 pin 5V argb connector (for the front fans) from the case into one of the 3 pin 5V connectors on my motherboard (specifically D_LED1).
The concern that I have is regarding the connector for the case. The arrow (which I understand to indicate voltage) is on the side of the connector with 1 pin and the dead port. My mobo manual clearly indicates the arrow should be on the side with the 2 ports, and the Lian Li manual shows a diagram confirming this. Idk what to make of this, and am concerned I could bork something if the voltage and ground are actually reversed. Further when I installed my air cooler with RGB the pin matched what my manual indicates is correct and no issues there.
I can upload an image if that would be helpful.
Is this a legit reason to be concerned or typical? Could this cause permanent damage if I just plug it in and try it? Could my case be defective?
Appreciate any guidance in advance. Thank you.

2023.06.10 02:27 davimiku Type inference of local variable based on later operations
I'm not sure if the title is the right terminology but I've been wondering about differences in type inference for local variables where the full type is not known at initialization. Primarily, I'm interested in understanding local type inference algorithms for statically typed
procedural languages (not functional).
For example, the following C# code does not compile, the type parameter is required at initialization and cannot be inferred later:
using System; using System.Collections.Generic; public class HelloWorld { public static void Main(string[] args) { var list = new List {}; list.Add("test"); } }
The equivalent TypeScript code
sometimes compiles and
sometimes doesn't compile based on configuration of the type checker:
let list = [] list.push("test")
The
equivalent Rust code compiles:
fn main() { let mut list = Vec::new(); list.push("test"); }
I checked a couple of other languages that I'm less familiar with, for example Go and C++ but I'm not sure I was creating an equivalent example so I didn't share it here.
My questions are below:
1.) Understanding existing languages
Is this a limitation of the type inference algorithm (i.e. Hindley-Milner vs. bidirectional)? Or is it a limitation in the implementation of the algorithm? Or is it an explicit design decision?
2.) Implementation
I'd like to allow this in my language (I'm still far from implementing generics but like thinking about things out ahead of time). How does that work at an implementation level, do you leave a "hole" (ex. List>) at initialization and then fill it in later?
3.) Handling conflicts
Presume the language infers the type based on what happens after initialization, if there's a conflict like this:
// pseudocode let list = [] if some_condition: list.push "string" else: list.push 123
I'm guessing that it infers List>, then List
, then checks Int vs. List and raises a type checker error on the last line? Or maybe if the language has untagged unions then it could infer that instead? (List)
Happy to hear any thoughts!

2023.06.10 00:23 ultrafiel Display options for new Mac Studio M2 Max?
I plan on buying a new Mac Studio M2 Max, and and trying to figure out the best display options. My current setup is an 2020 iMac 27-inch 5K, with a LG UltraFine 4K 21.5" 22MD4KA-B as a secondary display. I also use a MacBook Pro M1 Max for work that I often connect to my iMac using Luna Display as well as my secondary display. This works quite well, but isn’t super-convienent to switch over to quickly (takes a min or two).
So in a move to a Mac Studio, I need to figure out what works best. I’d love to hear what others are using. Here are what I see as options:
Option 1: Retina
I’m pretty accustomed to retina screens, and using non-retina is very noticeable to me now. Choices are:
- Apple Studio Display 27" 5K Retina Monitor
- LG 27MD5KL-B 27 Inch UltraFine 5K
- Samsung 27" ViewFinity S9 S90PC (not yet released, although annouced earlier this year)
- Dell UltraSharp 32 6K Monitor, U3224KB
- Apple Pro Display XDR 32” 6K Retina
And that’s it! The last two options are just too high in price for me, even though I’d love a Pro Display XDR. The LG UltraFine would only be worth it if I got a killer deal or second-hand due to build quality issues. So Apple Studio Display is the way to go with this option, even though I wish it were closer to $1000 in price.
Option 2: Large Screen OLED TV
This is an intriguing choice. And I’d love to go this route, but I do have concerns. Really the only options I’d consider are:
- 42 inch C2 LG OLED: $999
- 42 inch C3 LG OLED: $1,299
I don’t have room for anything larger, and really wouldn’t want to go past 42 inches. There is no reason to go to the C3 from what I’ve seen unless I want to pay more money—which I don’t—but I list it because the C2 will likely get harder to find.
My concerns for this are:
- Screen reflections, these are really glossy. My room does have windows, but isn’t too crazy. My iMac 5k handles these well enough, but I think the OLED would reflect more.
- Lower overall PPI. However, I’ll be putting this screen about 32 inches away from me vs the 18 inches I have with my iMac screen. According to https://stari.co/tv-monitor-viewing-distance-calculator this gets pretty close to the visual acuity distance, so maybe it won’t be as bad as I think.
- What is the preferred macOS scaling for this? I would like extra screen space, so I think I’d go native scaling, but I’m not sure how the sizes compare to what I’m already used to.
- Requires quite a bit of configuration. I’m not opposed to this, but it does seem from other threads that I’ll have to go change a bunch of settings to dial in this display to work well for macOS. Definately not as plug-and-play as other options.
I’d love to hear comments from anyone that has this kind of set up, especially if they also use or have used 5K screens from Apple. Now that the Mac Studio has HDMI 2.1 and can output at 120Hz for the OLED this could be an amazing setup if the resolution clarity isn’t terrible.
Option 3: Third party 4K display
I don't even know what options are good in this category since there are so many vendors. All I know is that I will need at least 4K because 1440p quality is easily noticeable to me. Obviously, this would likely be the least expensive option, and maybe the route I have to go, but if there are any outliers that are great I’d love to research them. I still would like larger than 27 inches, but I’m not too keen on large widescreens so the only option seems to be 32 inch screens.
Any insights or suggestions on this would be very appreciated. Thanks.

2023.06.10 00:09 MrMiggseeksLookatme I’ve ascended once again , this time with LG 45 OLED
| Wanted this monitor even after hearing about PPI , ignore it , it’s great Got this bad boy for 1200$ cash brand new from someone on OfferUp, could not pass that up & I’m glad I didn’t! I used to have a mounted C1 48 next to my g7. Ended up mounting the c1 to the right of my tower for watching tv in bed. The new LG update for the monitor did take a bit but I did notice the difference in brightness. At first it looked a bit dim, it’s perfect now. Really immersive. 2023.06.09 23:42 Jawnathin Found my unicorn: Acer XR383CUR
I had been looking for a 38" 1600p UW to replace my 34" AW3418. This is for a hybrid work/gaming station with a MBP and gaming desktop. My list of requirements were...
- 38" 3840x1600 UW
- High refresh rate (144hz+)
- HDR capable
- USB-C PD
- HDMI 2.1
- GSync/VRR capable
- KVM support
I struggled to find a monitor that met those requirements and with no news from CES or Computex for 38" 1600p monitors, I almost settled on the AW3821 or LG 38WN95C-W. Both were close but didn't match exactly what I was looking for. Then I found the
Acer XR383CUR. It has gone under the radar with very little feedback online or this sub (except for this
great post by
JennyDarukat).
From what I can tell, this is
near twin of the Predator X38S with the same form factor and LG IPS Nano display. Compared to the X38S, the XR383CUR has lower refresh rate (165 vs 175hz) and Freesync Premium (GSync-capable) vs GSync Ultimate but it gains the required USB-C PD port and HDMI 2.1, a trade I would happily accept. At $1299 USD, it's significantly less expensive ($700) than the X38S, comparable to the LG, and slightly more then the AW (when on sale). The XR383CUR ticked all the right boxes and with the similarities to the highly rated X38S, I took the plunge.
It arrived yesterday and so far I've been very satisfied with it. On my desktop I'm getting full res, 165hz, HDR, and GSync through HDMI 2.1. Same with the MBP (sans GSync) through USB-C. The panel is pre-calibrated from the factory like the X38S and overall image quality looks great to my eye. Panel quality looks nice and uniform without any dead or stuck pixels. Gaming at 165hz was great and I observed no visual or tearing issues.
The KVM feature works as expected, I have my keyboard, mouse, and speakers plugged into the monitor and can switch them between the MBP and desktop using the monitor's KVM. My only complaint so far is the KVM toggle is buried in the OSD and requires diving into the System menus to switch. It really should be available as a shortcut or have an option to pair and automatically switch with the video input selection but it does work.
If you've been looking for a 38" 1600p UW but were frustrated by missing features or ports of the more commonly known models like I was, take a look at the XR383CUR. It uses the same LG panel as the others but has a better feature set. It's very surprising to me this model isn't discussed more often given the features and price point. But I'm really happy I finally found a monitor that meets all of my requirements at a reasonable price point.

2023.06.09 23:30 AmmiOfficial R5 3600 (non-X): Best value GPU on PCIE 3?
Posted this on another subreddit, but posting one here as well:
So, its very simple. I have a Gigabyte Aorus Wifi ITX mobo,(B450) which has one PCIE 3 x16 slot. Looking for a GPU which will not be bottlenecked too much by the CPU.The obvious choice is 6700 or 6700XT the XT is actually cheaper ($409) and more available. I could also go for a 3060Ti (8GB), it has a wider bus at 256bit vs 192 bit on 6700XT, which would be better utilized by pcie 3. 6650 XT and lower has only 8x pcie, so that would tax me by a huge amount on pcie 3. In fact, I should not consider a single gpu that does not have full 16 pcie lanes, bandwidth can be a serious bottleneck with PCIE 4 GPUs on PCIE 3 chipsets.
What's shite with 3060Ti is the low 8GB VRAM, the 6700XT has 12GB, and therefore more future proof (as I will go with the setup for the next 3 years or so). My motherboard also supports resizable BAR (Gigabyte takes BIOS seriously).
I also have another criteria, and that is that the GPU must be a true 2 slot due to my thermaltake core v1 case is. So if 6700XT, it has to be a Powercolor Fighter (only true 2 slot card). 4070 (apart from the founders edition or the ZOTAC) are often 2.2 or 2.56 slot, so a no go for my case - and they will be bottlenecked by the R5 3600.
I could buy a R7 5700X, which is $218, but I don't know if it is worth the cost. A 5800X3D is $363, and in both cases, I would need a new cooler (Noctua NH-U12S which fits the case); another $72.Next time I upgrade, everything is swapped out , passing my current build to my youngest son.
Got a 60Hz 4k screen with great color representation, so I plan on doing an fps cap at 60 fps to keep the gpu as cool as possible. Resolution will be 1440p or 4k: I am one of those who like to tweak quality settings to yield the best balance between performance and visuals, certain settings honestly gives too little visual fidelity compared to how taxing they are on the performance...people now days just go ULTRA everything which is just plain stupid imo.
So, given PCIE 3 x16 and R5 3600, am I right that I should go 6700XT ($409), or should I also then go for a R7 5700X, which will also require a new cooler which it will benefit from?
Looking forward to this discussion, my work collegue and I wasted 3 hours at work today discussing it lol.
And if you are wondering about these steep prices in USD, it is because I live in Norway and our currency is shit because our politicians are brain dead!

2023.06.09 17:52 onlinecoolers Affordable AC Prices in UAE, Shipped to USA
| AC prices in the UAE When it comes to beating the scorching summer heat, an air conditioner (AC) is an essential appliance that provides the much-needed relief. However, finding affordable AC options without compromising on quality can be challenging. This article aims to explore the availability of affordable AC prices in the UAE, along with the possibility of shipping them to the USA. Whether you’re looking for a budget-friendly cooling solution or searching for unique AC models not easily accessible locally, this guide will help you navigate through the process. Understanding the Need for Affordable ACs As temperatures rise during the summer season, the demand for air conditioners increases significantly. People living in regions with hot climates, such as the UAE, rely heavily on ACs to maintain comfortable indoor environments. However, high AC prices can be a barrier for many individuals and businesses, prompting the need for more affordable options. Exploring the AC Market in UAE Popular AC Brands in UAE The UAE offers a wide range of AC brands, including global giants and local manufacturers. Some well-known brands in the UAE AC market are Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Carrier, LG, Samsung, and Panasonic. These brands provide a variety of AC models with different features, energy efficiency ratings, and cooling capacities to cater to diverse consumer needs. Factors Affecting AC Prices in UAE Several factors contribute to the pricing of ACs in the UAE. These factors include the brand reputation, energy efficiency rating, cooling capacity, additional features, and after-sales services provided by the manufacturer. Additionally, fluctuations in raw material prices, import/export taxes, and market competition also impact the final retail price of ACs in the UAE. Benefits of Importing ACs from UAE to USA With the advancements in e-commerce and global shipping services, it has become increasingly convenient to import products from international markets. Importing ACs from the UAE to the USA can offer several advantages. Firstly, you gain access to a broader range of AC models, including those not readily available in the local market. Secondly, the cost of ACs in the UAE may be comparatively lower than similar models in the USA, providing potential cost savings. Lastly, importing allows you to explore unique features and technological advancements offered by international AC brands. Steps to Ship ACs from UAE to USA Research and Identify Reliable Shipping Services When shipping ACs from the UAE to the USA, it is crucial to select a reliable shipping service that specializes in international deliveries. Look for shipping providers with experience in handling fragile and valuable items, ensuring they offer insurance coverage for your AC shipment. Consider Customs Regulations and Duties Before shipping ACs internationally, familiarize yourself with the customs regulations and import duties of your destination country, in this case, the USA. Ensure compliance with all necessary documentation and declarations to avoid any delays or additional charges during the customs clearance process. Packaging and Insurance Proper packaging is essential to protect your AC during transit. Ensure that the packaging materials provide adequate cushioning and secure the AC to prevent any damages. Additionally, consider obtaining insurance coverage to safeguard your investment in case of unforeseen circumstances during transportation. Track and Receive Your Shipment Once your AC shipment is on its way, utilize the tracking services provided by your shipping company to stay informed about its progress. Prepare to receive the shipment and inspect it for any damages upon arrival. In case of any issues, promptly contact the shipping company and follow their procedures for filing claims. Cost Comparison: UAE ACs vs. Local Market in USA One of the primary considerations when importing ACs from the UAE to the USA is the cost comparison between the two markets. While AC prices in the UAE may appear attractive, it is essential to factor in shipping costs, customs duties, and any additional fees involved in the import process. Conduct a thorough cost analysis to determine the overall affordability of importing an AC from the UAE compared to purchasing from the local market in the USA. Tips for Choosing the Right AC When selecting an AC, it’s crucial to consider various factors to ensure it meets your cooling requirements and budget. Here are a few tips to help you make an informed decision: Consider Energy Efficiency Opt for AC models with high energy efficiency ratings, such as those labeled with the Energy Star certification. Energy-efficient ACs consume less electricity, leading to lower utility bills and reduced environmental impact. Cooling Capacity Choose an AC with an appropriate cooling capacity based on the size of the room or space you intend to cool. About the LG Contest
Apparently this contest is supposed to be super fun, but we just use it to identify which one of you sucks more than the other and award him a title of shame. People actually believe that this contest is a fun way to guess the outcome of games before they take place by answering shitty questions. Points get added up, you get to lose and see us win. No real prizes are awarded, but it does help identify who sucks the least in the subreddit.
Please read the rules if you have not already. They are similar to the rules from 2021. Lucky Guess threads will be put up before each game, usually the night before. Trash talking in the comments is permitted (encouraged), however excessive bitching and complaining may result in a system failure that somehow lost all of your points.
If you have any questions, leave them in the comments and someone might answer. You can also PM the gamemaster.
Good luck!

2023.06.09 17:31 boichoco Dolby atmos not stable/not working on nvidia shield tv pro
Hi ive been trying to find a fix on my issue with tidal but couldn't find any. First my setup I have the LG C1 tv, LG s95qr soundbar and the nvidia shield tv pro (I believe it's the newer model since I just got it from bestbuy). I have my soundbar connected to my LG C1 earc and my nvidia shield to my soundbar I'm using tidal on my nvidia shield I deleted everything on my LG C1 tv I even disconnected my wifi on it. My problem is that when I play dolby atmos the rear speakers would be very soft to the point you can't hear it well and sometimes it just wouldn't work at all the sounds would just be coming from the front speaker. When I scroll around the menu or press any button on the remote while playing dolby atmos the rear speakers would work it would be loud but when I stop scrolling or pressing buttons it would go back to being very soft/not work. Sometimes when I Play dolby atmos with pressing anything on the remote the rear speakers would be loud randomly and goes back on being soft again or not work at all. I tried other apps like Netflix, Disney, and HBO max dolby atmos works perfectly fine. I've unplugged everything I even uninstalled tidal and nothing worked I even played around with the settings nothing work as well. Anyone knows the fix for this or is it just a bug? Thanks
