2023.06.10 06:43 _El-Ahrairah_ Help understanding dry socket frequency in impacted wisdom tooth extractions

I've seen sites say that dry socket develops about 5% of the time after extractions. I've also read sites say that there's up to 25-30% chance of a dry socket developing after extracting an impacted wisdom tooth.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alveolar_osteitis
https://askthedentist.com/faster-wisdom-tooth-surgery-recovery/
That number seems to come from this study:
https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Igor_Blum2/publication/11197833_Contemporary_views_on_dry_socket_alveolar_osteitis_A_clinical_appraisal_of_standardization_aetiopathogenesis_and_management_A_critical_review/links/59bedd67458515e9cfd22997/Contemporary-views-on-dry-socket-alveolar-osteitis-A-clinical-appraisal-of-standardization-aetiopathogenesis-and-management-A-critical-review.pdf
When I asked spoke to my oral surgeon about the chance of a dry socket developing after extracting an impacted wisdom tooth he said that it was very low - about 5%.
Is it really as high as 30% or is there some misinterpreting of the statistics happening?
It should be very obvious if 1 or 4 people who have had an impacted wisdom tooth removed developed a dry socket. For oral surgeons out there, does the 25 to 30% probability reflect your experience?

2023.06.10 06:42 fuguemouth Couldn’t see it til now

Hi, I’m Fugue, and I’m definitely a fucking addict.
It was in high school when I started to think I wouldn’t live past 30. It didn’t start with a sense of maniacal nihilism. that came later. It started with a sense of zero self worth.
I can count with 1 Hand how many times I’ve cheated death. No more, no less. 4 of those times dealt with engines and speed (1 wrecked bike, 3 car accidents- one of which I almost killed someone else.) And one time with pills and booze. 20-20 hindsight- These were all attempts at circumstantial suicide.
Today Im 34 and got my 30 day tag. Yea it’s still hard, but for the first time in my life I feel grateful to be alive. And I’m gonna run with that.

2023.06.10 06:41 Bright_Marketing4439 Should I visit my 73 yr old grandma with dementia? I feel really bad about not wanting to

16m here, me and my mom have been visiting my 73 year old grandma (my dad's mom) on and off for the past couple of months, who is suffering from dementia and type 2 diabetes.
She is in a care home for the elderly, (not specifically for dementia, a lot of other patients actually don't have it) which is a great place. She is well taken care of for the most part, she is a friendly and peaceful environment, and her daughter (my dad's sister) and some other people sporadically will check up on her, make sure she's clean and fresh clothes, fed, etc etc.
She was hospitalized about a month ago because her body was refusing insulin, there's nothing the doctors can do about that and complications due to that have a high likelyhood of taking her before the alzheimers does. My mom and I, other than her daughter and the people who are hired, are some of the only people who actually check up on her. Which is one of the reasons why I feel so terrible about not actually wanting to see her. But the last few times my mom and I have been invited to go see her, I've refused. I just hate seeing her the way she is. Not even 5 years ago she was totally normal and cognitive, she still has her days where she's mostly "able", she can hold a conversation, make pretty good sense of things, recognize faces, crack jokes all pretty much like she used to. But last time we went and visited her she didn't want to get out of bed. She didn't seem angry like most cases I see with dementia, she just seemed really depressed or upset. It really broke my heart to see her like that. I asked her what was wrong but she didn't seem to recognize me. She just let my mom change her clothes and we set her to dinner.
I'm not sure why, but I get a deep pit in my stomach just thinking about visiting her anymore. I don't think I can see her anymore without welling up, it was hard for me not to cry even while I was seeing her in a good mood. Something just always seemed off about everything, which is exactly the case. She isn't exactly who she used to be anymore due to this illness and I don't know what to do about it anymore. Again, I feel horrible not wanting to go. Ideally I want to see her and have a good time like I used to when I was a little kid. She would bake cookies and make hot chocolate when it was cold out, cook big breakfastes, we would watch the Hallmark channel even though I never liked it, I just enjoyed seeing her happy in her rocking chair. Up in her house on the mountains. Unfortunately that isn't reality anymore.
The house was sold about 4 years ago for way under market value by her kids, she's in a care home now, she can't cook anymore, she isn't who I remember my grandma to be anymore. She isn't who I was always excited to go see on the weekends anymore. She's changed now. And I really can't stand that. I miss how I remember her, although I know that version of her only lives in my head now.
This is someone who I've admired for most of my life. My parents are not really great people, she was the only person who would actually show me love and affection, give me attention, regularly cook for me, and she just had a charm about her which was unique and unmatched by anyone else I've ever seen in my life. Now she's different. I just can't get over it.
I want to go visit her before she dies, I want to see her, hear her voice again, just a few more times, but at the same time, it seems like she's already dead to me. She is not the person who I remember. And it feels so selfish saying that but she's almost like a stranger to me now. And when she forgets me, it devastates me inside.
So I don't know what to. I know I should go see her, but it badly hurts me to. It hurts in a way I really can't describe. I miss my grandma. Any thoughts on this? Any help? Thank you if you've read this far.
TL;DR: My alzheimers grandma has an affliction with her diabetes which may end up taking her life quicker than the alzheimers, I have opportunities to go visit her at her elderly care home once every week which I have been doing on and off regularly for the past few months, but I've been declining seeing her for the past couple of weeks because it gets me too emotional. I miss how I remember my grandma being before she got alzheimers, and I can't seem to get over the fact that she really has it and she isn't who she used to be anymore. I don't know whether I should just suck it up and go see her while I still can, or if all the times I've seen her already within these past months was enough and she'll rest easy. What are your thoughts on this?
Sorry if this wasn't completely coherent, I teared up multiple times just writing this and I don't want to cry more by proofreading. God bless.

2023.06.10 06:40 WhyIsMyPooGreenHelp Best 15 Perk Combination?

Been playing the game for 2 weeks now, usually doing the wildcard contract with a duo in Discord. Racked up 40 hours, and I am bloodline level 78. Just now I played a 7 kill 4 bounty game and got my 5th max level hunter for the achievement.
Now I'm in the main lobby looking at the traits, and I'm trying to budget all the perk points and stuff. If a hunter gets 49 points and has 15 slots, each trait/perk would have to average 3.26 points, but it honestly feels like that I very rarely would actually use any 1-3 point perk. Not to mention that you still need to set points aside to buy back health.
I'm not saying the 3 point perks are bad, many of them I would use, Bulwark, Kiteskin, Dauntless has saved me a few times, and I always run Magpie and can get away with not bringing stamina shots.
But when all the really game-changing perks like Necromancer, Bloodless, levering/fanning, doctor, frontiersman, quartermaster, etc are way above the 3-point average it seems impossible to fully load up hunters with 15 good/useable traits unless you just farm bosses and meatheads over and over.
Do more experienced players just not bother trying to get all 15 perks and just get what they can from the perk points and get the others when they come across them in game? Or do people have specific combinations of perks they like running that get them up to the full 15?
Also wondering if there are any that are overrated or any that are "must run" perks, like necromancer in solos.
Sorry if the question sounds dumb or convoluted and thanks for the patience.

2023.06.10 06:40 egull5435 Unique Volunteer Opportunity for 19 year old

I’m a rising 2nd year at another college and asking others in case they have ideas. I’m not too close to my school during the summer, gonna be back around August 15th tho and will have a car to commute to anywhere. I’m looking to get involved with some type of community service project, something that is more than just a 4 hour work day at a big organization. I want to have something on my resume that shows something unique and also that shows commitment. I’m pretty into disk golfing so initially I really wanted to get involved with building a new course and put 4-8 hours into it every week for a few months or whatever it would take, that’s a great example of the type of thing I’m looking for, but they just finished a brand new one last may so I don’t know if there would be another project like that this coming fall. Just wondering if anyone has some ideas of what I could do or if you are working on something yourself or have connection with anyone that could help me get involved somewhere. Again I just want to find something that’s a legit commitment and better than going to a few different cliche organizations which won’t really stand out on an application.

2023.06.10 06:40 Angry_Irish Manual port forwarding on Edgerouter

I am having some issues with setting up my ER4 with port forwarding and Firewall Policies.
The router can successfully port forward traffic when no additional firewall policies are in place using auto firewall. The problem is that I have multiple VLANs that are able allowing traffic between them so I set up firewall policies to block the traffic to other VLANs. This worked but broke all of the port forwarding rules for whichever VLAN gets locked down. When I try to manually port forward, nothing changes.
I have followed the steps in this guide for the manual forwarding but this did not work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiWp7whEAps

2023.06.10 06:40 JoyfulJourneyman Public Journal To Fix My Life Day 11 of 90

Hello everyone! I hope you're doing well. Here's a summary for new readers:

This journal is my way of holding myself accountable on my healing and self-improvement journey. It may not always be filled with exciting events, but it will always reflect my honest and genuine experiences. Now, let's dive into today's entry.

Today wasn't the best day for me. Despite maintaining my morning routine, I woke up feeling tired and ended up sleeping in. After my routine, I started editing the pictures I took yesterday. Out of the 197 photos, I only ended up liking 4 after the editing process, which is quite normal. Those 4 turned out really well, though.

I posted the pictures online and then waited for my therapy session. While waiting, I found myself getting anxious about going to the disco later in the evening. I was on the verge of canceling on my friend but decided to be honest and express my feelings to him, which was a positive step for me. I usually struggle with sharing my emotions.

During the therapy session, my therapist commended the progress I made this week. We focused on discussing self-esteem and how I shouldn't wait to have the ideal body to start loving myself and seeking love. I was encouraged to accept myself as I am and work through any insecurities or doubts. Although it's challenging for me to fully accept this right now, it's an important lesson to learn.

After the therapy session, I was exhausted and didn't feel like going for a run. However, I pushed myself to do it anyway. While running, I visualized myself being talkative and friendly at the disco, planning out how I would act and setting positive affirmations to mentally prepare myself for meeting new people.

After the run, I took a warm bath and got ready to go out. I felt confident and good about myself. However, things took a turn for the worse when I couldn't withdraw the $20 needed for the cover charge. The bank app stopped working, and I waited until midnight in hopes that it would start functioning again, but it never did. This disappointment frustrated me because I had mentally and physically prepared myself to go out, and when plans don't go as expected, it tends to affect my mood.

Despite feeling drained and disappointed, I didn't let my emotions dictate my actions. Just as I pushed myself to run earlier when I didn't feel like it, I pushed myself to write this journal entry. That's how I ended my day. I plan to continue reading the book on how to talk with people and then get some rest. Tomorrow, I might distract myself by going out to take more pictures.

Thank you for reading. See you all soon!

Here's some test results to help maybe https://8values.github.io/results.html?e=55.8&d=59.4&g=55.1&s=60.8 https://10groups.github.io/results.html?y=1.55&ay=2.50&x=1.38&ax=1.38&bx=-0.83&by=1.12&cx=-2.75&cy=-1.85&dx=-1.09&dy=1.89&ex=0.64&ey=0.50&fx=0.00&fy=2.00&gx=-6.00&gy=0.83&hx=-7.67&hy=-3.33&ix=-0.25&iy=8.75&ja=4.33&jb=5.00&jc=-2.67&jd=0.75 https://sapplyvalues.github.io/results.html?right=1.67&auth=1.33&prog=2.50
Idealistically I would like a world government where voting is not a right rather you should have to pass a test to show you know some level of understanding of things such as politics and history or perform public service. I also like the idea of technocracy, but I still think anyone should be allowed to hold public office. I think a untied world government that is liberal but also pragmatic would be a good thing for the world. I do think some cultures are incompatible with liberal values and I don't think all cultures should be shown respect. I support liberal values such as liberties and freedom, but I think a society needs to be responsible and orderly with freedom. I also highly value order and stability and think in some cases it should take precedence over liberty. I think Singapore is a good example of this and they're a nation I like. Basically, I want a free society that values education, progress and tradition, safety, stability and order and rejects extremism in favor of pragmatism and moderation. I also reject any kind of racism, and think we need to move past race as a whole to unite humanity and work together to progress society. So I'm against nationalism and any type of policy that favors any race, ethnicity or religion. I support capitalism, but I think the state should be able to step in when it needs to to fix the negative aspects of capitalism. I definitely reject libertarian type capitalism. I also support a strong welfare system that helps people get back on their feet rather than keep them on welfare forever. Socially I am a moderate. I'm ok with legalization of marijuana but not hard drugs. I generally support LGBT rights and abortion, but there should be limits. I generally support gun ownership, but I do support strong gun control such as red flag laws, strict mental health and background checks, and licensing to own certain type of guns. When it comes to immigration and foreign policy I am mostly pro immigration and I am a strong supporter of free trade and Internationalsim. I am a big supporter of NATO and think China and Russia are our biggest threats. Some personal things about me that may help is that I'm agnostic, but I do think some religion can be beneficial to society, I really dislike both parties, but I have been voting for democrats most past elections, my favorite presidents are both of the Roosevelt's, Lincoln, Eisenhower, Bush Sr, and Washington, and I just call myself a centrist usually. Sorry for any formatting/grammar issues I typed this fast and on mobile. If you have any questions about other of my views, ask and I'll answer!
