2023.05.29 04:51 Biiarde13 Discord.py get Channel's ID using name?

I'm working on a bot who sends messages at scheduled times, and I have that done. Now, as it's on a few servers, I want it to send those messages to channels with a certain name. I'm struggling to find any way to do this. I have only seen two other posts about this and they haven't been of help because they rely on ctx, while mine is working in/on a task/event where there isn't ctx.
I can edit/comment code if needed.

2023.05.29 04:51 WillingHabit2190 Best universities for student life?

Hey,
I am planning on coming from Australia to NL on exchange for the fall semester of next year (2024) and I have been torn about which universities to pick from, I am not necessarily looking for the best one in terms of academics and international recognition as I am more want to use the semester abroad to have a good time, meet other people, travel and enjoy my experience.
The main Universities I have been looking at are:
I am quite aware of the housing problem in NL and I think that is just something I will have to navigate when the time comes, but any tips to prepare even though it is more than a year away?
I’ll be 26 by the time I go on exchange and even though I know this isn’t too much older than the average student, will this be much of a problem?
I also do not speak any Dutch
Any pros/cons or advice on anything is greatly appreciated!

2023.05.29 04:51 lostgypsy123 The Verdant Dynasty

A call to adventure...
A call echoes from the labyrinth of towering trees. From the harsh savannah to the necrotic swamplands. Within this harsh climate lurks wonderments and beacons of hope speckled across the antagonistic backdrop. The leafy canopy looming aloft, to the distant crooning of wildlife, paints a vivid image of life thriving within the Darwinian tussle. The residents of this land are hardy folk—a people of enriched culture and unique perspectives. And tucked from prying eyes remain the delipidated carcasses of former empires. Grand structures that are now gradually being swallowed up by nature.
The ambiance is one of hope marred by the conflicts of yesteryear. Here the stories of many are interwoven and intersect organically. An original world where even the NPCs are people, and the characters one might make are forged via play and development. The stories and legacy of current and former writers culminate in a grand narrative that fuels every facet of the universe. Where consequences, both beneficial and dire, have refashioned the history and trajectory of the provinces.
So come cradle within the branches. Surrender to the call that has lured many a great writer before you. And see what influence you will leave behind for others to follow. For here, everything is earned, nothing is given, and no one can strip away what is merited.

Q&A
So, what are you guys?
We're an original world with a long history. We've bounded between rp mediums and weathered many of their expirations.

Where is the prompt?
There is none because it's a universe. People create characters and live their life and role within the setting. Their efforts then change the world for better or for worse. So there isn't one prompt as the saga is continuous. It's a collection of stories from grand to small that make it up.

What are your rules?
No godmodding/ metagaming.
Read the lore.
Read your partner's post.
Respect one another
And have fun.

What will you guys not allow?
Our magic system is straightforward. There is a degree of groundedness to it. We won't accept magic that violates the mechanics of the universe.

Not reading the lore.
You can't just add a race, as that would alter decades of IC stories and development. What's there is there. A race coming out of these advanced nation-states' woodworks is too far-fetched. It would be like heading down a different street on Earth and finding mole people with a large empire or city.
Guns.
How do I get approved?
Submit a sheet. We have a template up, but it isn't required. And then a mod will look over it to ensure it doesn't violate the setting.

How do I gain stuff?
Through play. Want to be a better warrior, do warrior things. No amount of bar hopping will make you a better fighter. This applies to all roles.

Is there more to the world?
Yes, but the other areas don't matter. As such, they don't exist in the eyes of those who inhabit the universe. A way to break this down quickly is to use North and South America. They existed, but they didn't hold any relevance to ancient China. So writing up America and trying to force it in will be denied. It isn't fair to those who have worked to get where they are or are currently working. And the lore presented is a summary. More information will be provided if needed.

What if I can't write much?
We all start somewhere. Additionally, RP is not a competition; it is collaborative.

2023.05.29 04:49 Anyone-UnderstandMe A medicre human finally managed to get into TECH & loved it

Hello all, I've always been fascinated by technology, since my childhood. But somehow I'm still more inclined towards chemicals and stuff. I guess that's what made me choose chemical engineering back in 2015, when CSE was at its peak. I somehow never studied for exams, even before exam days! But, somehow i passed just by mugging up some interesting concepts i randomly visited on YouTube. I'm more of a visual learner than thereotical. I was even lucky that I'm one of the only guys who placed in the chemical industry with a very good package, even though i had less than 60% in my bachelor's (I'm so lucky). I immediately got something to work on! My curiosity multiplied when i saw the practical application of my theory, and I'm now reading a lot of theory just to completely understand the practical applications happening around my workplace. I was a management trainee in my first year. I was treated like some of the biggest bosses from the first day, just because i had an engineering degree and all others were from lower cadre. I really felt sorry for them that a 10 year old experienced guy was reporting to me daily status and calling me SIR! I somehow got along with them, made them close, and learned a lot from their practical exposure. I had a super supportive manager after my management training period was completed. God! Those days were heaven. I worked relentlessly for a year and a half, made some real progress both personally and professionally. has a very good reputation. Got good raises. But...but.. i still felt something was missing. I don't know what it is, but something was missing. It made me explore more, and then this happened. I used to work on Excel a lot and deal with huge amounts of reporting and data. I searched for beautiful presentations, handling big data online, and that's when i stumbled upon SQL and Tableau. My curiosity multiplied, so I took a Google-certified data analyst Coursera course. although it wasn't serious in the initial days. I thought of doing a master's, but dumb me immediately resigned, stating I'd go to a master's! I applied to universities and got rejected, and something came financially as well. So I dropped the thought of masters. For the first time, i was empty in my mind, with no reasonable work to do and no goal. I somehow thought of completing the course. It took me 3 months to complete the certification. I learned a bit about everything, making me much more curious. I applied for all positions randomly with a resume that had my chemical experience and a career gap and stated that I'm doing a course and want to switch. I used to cold DM on LinkedIn as well. I found similar people in my situation. Also, i stumbled upon the CEO of a small startup. He offered me an intern position and told me to prove my curiosity in learning by giving me 6 months of time to learn full stack, with almost negligible guidance , but time and money. I was paid 15 K all through my training and randomly tracked my progress. I somehow learned a bit of everything in full stack, jumped right in with their product development team, and understood their product with zero KT. Worked hard with development, even as an intern. I finally got confirmed, and i was offered 25K a month. I'm glad as I'm now completely absorbed into the team, although it's small less than 20 to be precise. I developed some cool features (may be basic for them, but cool from my POV). Fixed some bugs. Although, I'm still struggling with proper communication of deadlines as i dive deep into code, i get lost checking every bit of it and losing time. I'm improving at it. I've been lurking in this subreddit for a long time, and recently, with current market conditions, I've seen a lot of freshers feeling disheartened with all their efforts going in vain. I wanted to share my small personal win with everyone out there, so that if i could do it, you guys could do it as well. Just be curious, and everything will eventually fall in your favour! Keep coding ✌️❤️

2023.05.29 04:49 mercyspace27 Critiques on Novella Idea

Don’t know if this is the right place but figured might as well.
Trying to finally push myself to try and write and maybe even publish one of the many ideas I’ve had rolling through my brain. Thinking about going with this one because it’s pretty simple
Setting: Zombie Apocalypse, multiple years after the event; the desert mesas and valleys of the American west, Arizona and New Mexico area. Going through the mesas, shanty towns, abandoned towns and cities, old military outposts, and actually active areas on occasions.
Character(s): a man who had been living out in the caves and valleys who has developed a split/dual(/I’m-not-a-psychologist-so-super-sorry-if-I’m-WAY-off) personality from a mixture of isolation, stress, and some head trauma, one half is slightly excitable and a little manic as is a man who spent several years alone in the apocalypse while the other is actually calm, low speaking and potentially psychotic. The manic half is mainly focused on surviving, living comfortably in their cave home and trying to be friendly and amicable to the few strangers they get. While the other is the one who… simply wants to kill zombies, they drag the shared-body into areas with a bit more zombies while scavenging just to kill more zombies, and is even the one that may have convinced the other to kill other humans rather than negotiate when confrontations went south. But the thing about them is that they are both active and functioning at the same time and as far as they/the brain are/is concerned, they are actually two separate people with separate bodies who just seem to spend a lot of time together. But there is something associated with the other personality, an old hockey goalie mask with a red handprint decorating it. The manic personality is known to set the mask on a rock, a countertop, or even a chair and speak to it during times of rest as if someone was there.
Plot: Starts off is simple and stock standard survival in the zombie apocalypse. But after some time a seeming wave of zombies had overrun the area, running our main character(s) out of their home and the shanty towns nearby occupied by other survivors. Our boy(s) head in the direction the horde came from thinking that it would be better than trying to hide and let the wave past or just continue to run away from it. While doing this they come across the many apocalyptic monuments and signs that are so common, graffiti talking about everyone dying, hiding from the swarm/wave, signs of small and recently abandoned shanty towns. But something catches their eyes, multiple signs directing a woman called Alice. The manic one decides to just ignore it. But the other takes an interest. Their curious about this Alice individual. And they convince the manic personality to follow the signs to finally meet up and live with other survivors potentially. But there’s another objective with the other personality. For every other time they come across a sign directing Alice they make the statement “I want to meet Alice.”
The plot would basically follow the journey through an apocalypse that suffered a much smaller secondary apocalypse. Them exploring, fighting, scavenging, talking back and forth and arguing with themselves and even interactions with other survivors. Both friendly and hostile. As they walk around as a man in an old, red handprinted hockey talking to himself in one upbeat and happy voice and one low, slightly growly and monotone one. Jumping back and forth acting rather normal if excited and coldly killing zombies with a bit more fervor than would be considered acceptable.
Yeah it’s super basic but figure it’d be a nice and easy going start for me.

2023.05.29 04:49 Snoo-88395 Optometry or law?

Hi, I’m a 22 year old from Canada who recently graduated from university and is an incoming student at the only English optometry program in Canada. I’ve done a lot of research and shadowed many optometrists and found out that it’s a great profession in Canada and one that is continuously growing.
My career aspirations since I was young has been either being a lawyer or an optometrist. I know that I’m in a privileged position having been accepted to the only optometry program in English Canada, but can’t help to think what if I chose law instead. Could any of you offer any advice as to the state of law in Canada and the GTA? (Tldr: I know optometry is a great profession with great earning potential but I’m just curious about the state of law in Canada).

2023.05.29 04:48 TinkTank96 Malcador Books

What are some books centered around or star Malcador? As I be dug more into the universe I always forget how much of a G he is. The man basically does what Big E does but without god powers and then just burns himself on the throne to save the Imperium knowing he’ll die. What is there not to like about him. So I am wondering what books can dig more into his side of things or his story as I want to appreciate Malcador the Hero some more.

2023.05.29 04:48 TheKillerDuck123 Were there any notable theologians or Saints prior to John Paul II that had a “positive” view of sex?

I’ve heard it claimed that Theology of the Body was a theological innovation which conceded too much to the Sexual Revolution, and that the Church has always taught until modern times that sex for anything besides procreation, even within marriage, is sinful. St. Augustine certainly seemed to hold this, as did St. Jerome. But how universal was this?

2023.05.29 04:47 The_Tribal_Chief2K23 I need to break free from these guys

Honestly this is a super long story but ill try summarizing it as much as possible. So basically I have been friends with these guys since grade 11. It was all going smoothly up until University started and at this point I don't know what to even say anymore. Ever since the summer of last year, they would start making fun of me for no apparent reason like jus talk about my acne or like how i cant do this or that or like how i havent been able to find a job or just pinpoint random shit just to attack me. I took a stand for myself in october and told them to stop and got angry and stood up for myself but then they just completely banned me from the christmas party and emotionally gaslighted me into making me believe it was my fault and that they were just trolling when i have told them countless times its not ok. This one guy in the group who ive known since grade 9 who i considered one of my best friends always claims he has my back but ever since the summer of last year hes been talking behind the backs of my other friends too and always arranges small ball runs with a couple of guys without a certain majority knowing and its always been uncomfortable to me. So fast forward January, I put it all beside me and we moved on until again in march when they started doing the same shit again and made fun of me for failing my linear algebra midterm which was at a time i was suffering from immense depression due to the course situation at my university and then when i snapped again and quit playing games with them, they began to demand that i give them money for quitting and kicked me from the friend group. This was again a very difficult time in my life but again since i chose to fucking commute and making friends on res wasn't an option for me but again I DECIDED TO GIVE them another chance. Now fast forward late may its happening to me again. they keep mocking me about how they have found a summer job and how i havent and never seem to be happy for me when i say things in the gc like how ive gotten interviews and stuff and they always play it down and talk about how they are superior and then kick me out when i try taking a stand for myself. I do not understand why this happens to ONLY me when theres 8 other people in the gc who are trolling each other but for some reason its always jokes when its them but when i say something to defend myself they emotionally gaslight me into believing its my fault.

2023.05.29 04:45 EducationalBox4074 I have many questions about school

About me :
Recently 100% p&t and recently permanently retired .
I would like to go to school . I never used my GI Bill and I do not have a post 9/11
I have had 3 MOS's in the army.
Now that I'm out I have no clue what to do. Also I have no formal education. I never went to school past high school.
My questions are
Can I use my Montgomery GI Bill ? Does it matter what school I go to ? Will a counselor at the school know anything about enrollment using my GI Bill ? Do I have to pay any out of pocket expenses? Will school be free? I hear I can receive full BAH is this true? Should I go to a military friendly school or a University near me ? I'm almost 50 years old. Will I be able to handle the environment? Will any of my MOS be converted to credits ? Can I just go for 1 semester?
I have absolutely no clue about how education works . I use to have a pillow in my locker in high school and bring it to class and sleep . Not even kidding .passed every class never did homework.
I would like to enroll for September if things go well and I don't have to pay .

2023.05.29 04:45 jordanlesson Another Reason Why UFOs Are Here

Usually theories regarding the UFO phenomenon suggest that they are a part of a larger extraterrestrial organization or movement. Some people say UFOs are here to stop humans from self-annihilation while others claim that they are here to take over the planet. Some people like Haim Eshed state that there is a “Galactic Federation” who are in talks with the US government to study the “fabric of the universe”.
I would like to do a thought experiment. Imagine that UFOs are the “cars” of an extraterrestrial civilization. Similarly to cars, these vehicles allow for faster travel than on-foot. However, UFOs enable far more freedom than the usual car as it allows for beings to travel through space and time, are trans-medium, and can actively cloak themselves. Given this, wouldn’t it be very likely that the UFOs we see are actually just independent ETs just going on intergalactic trips through the universe with their own intentions. Just like humans, these ETs may be visiting Earth for vacation or sight-seeing while others are looking to abduct humans for sex trafficking and everything in between. We need to consider the thought that UFOs are just freedom machines that enable beings to do whatever they want, when they want without consequence.

2023.05.29 04:45 demian913 Scientific Computing Msc/Phd at MUN

Hi everyone,
I'm an international student considering pursuing a graduate degree in the scientific computing program at MUN. From what i've seen, MUN is the only university in Canada that offers an interdisciplinary degree specifically focused on scientific computing. The department has a strong emphasis on earth sciences, and I've come across positive comments about some of the professors. The other options I've looked into are McMaster and Waterloo, but they are more competitive, and I haven't found professors working specifically on earth and atmospheric sciences.
Could anyone share their opinions about pursuing a graduate degree at MUN? Is it a stressful experience? I've learned that the university guarantees funding for both MSc and PhD programs, but I'm unsure if the provided amount is sufficient to cover all expenses. Are there opportunities to work as a TA or RA to supplement my income and gain teaching and more research experience? Is there funding available to attend conferences? Additionally, after completing the program, would it be challenging to find employment opportunities within or outside of Canada? In other words, is MUN recognized as a reputable university?
Thank you!
