No experience necessary for the laborer custodial or maintenance mechanic positions. It helps on the interview but you can surely think of maintenance related experience to relay for an interview. Based on fixing things around your house, the car etc. Always mention working safely.

Pro tip: You can apply for any job that has an exam opening and the test is administered local to yourself. Make sure you're serious and score decently; you can turn down the job offer. Keep a physical copy of your exam score, I believe they are good for two years.
The reason is: These job postings can be posted externally at capacity for testing, meaning they will not allow you to take the exam if they have enough qualified applicants. However, if you have a test score on the books, you are a qualified applicant.

Explanation of MVO/TTO to save time:
MVO= CDL B Can only drive box trucks on public roads, can drive anything for moves on postal property.
TTO= CDL A Can drive anything.

USPS provides the training. (Maintenance jobs at least. TTO and management...GOOD LUCK)

You don't have to be crazy to work here. We'll train you. Everything but proper email usage.

Last day tomorrow—Pasadena to Santa Monica Pier
Picked up car in Milwaukee nine days ago. (Cheaper car rental than Chicago.) Got the classic Route 66 begins here photo and hit the road.
Tomorrow is day 10.
Nothing left to do but get to the Pier and declare victory.
I have to admit to a little bit of Route 66 fatigue.
Driving through the desert was melancholy in some places; being bypassed can be fatal to a town.
Anyone else glad to get to the end of the road and park the car for awhile?

2023.05.07 09:04 -Bonjour-- From the Ardèche to Cassis at the Mediterranean Sea

From my travel report (2021):
We left the Autoroute du Soleil at the exit "Montélimar Nord" and about 15 km before the town we saw the four pressurized water reactors of the nuclear power plant Cruas, which were put into operation in 1983-84, on the right bank of the Rhone. I can only say it was somehow a threatening sight for me....
We had chosen MONTÉLIMAR - about 60 km south of Valence - as a stopover, because from there one can easily make a day trip to the Ardèche gorge. Through the Saint Martin gate you enter the old town. This gate was built between 1762 and 1763 from stones from the surrounding area and is a remnant of the old gates when Montélimar was still surrounded by walls. In the city there are still some palaces from the 15th to the 17th century. The Chapel of St. Croix, rebuilt in the 18th century, has a 16th century bell tower.Montélimar is best known for its nougat, and there are several producers who sell their products directly. In keeping with the theme, there is the Palace of Sweets and Nougat - certainly something for big and small sweet tooth.
On a hill above the town is the 12th-century Romanesque castle of Adhémar, with a fortified wall and battlements. At the end of the 16th century, the castle was a citadel and later a prison until 1926. Now it is a center for contemporary art. Striking in Montélimar are the Provençal avenues planted with plane trees that frame the town park. Popular with children, this large park with hundred-year-old trees has a petting zoo, a duck pond, a playground and a wooden horse carousel. There are several restaurants and bars along the large avenue on the edge of the old town, and in the park opposite many people enjoyed their Sunday with a walk, a drink or a late lunch.
After breakfast we left Montélimar for the town of AUBENAS, about 40 km away. The town of Aubenas has about 12500 inhabitants and is the economic center of the Ardèche. In former times, mills, textile factories and paper manufactories provided a certain prosperity in the lower town at the river. The upper town is situated on a rocky plateau and offers a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains and hills everywhere. On Saturdays, a large market with products from the region takes place in the open market hall, the castle square and the surrounding narrow alleys. A wide boulevard surrounds the old town, which is grouped in a semicircle around the castle and the imposing fortified tower. Almost all the streets of the old town are pedestrian zones.
In the middle of the town of Aubenas is the listed Montlaur Castle. Construction began in the 12th century with the tower. Until the French Revolution, the castle was successively inhabited by six lordly families. And the owners then changed the building according to the architectural inspirations of each era. The castle has a glazed tile roof, a keep with waiting rooms and two round towers with battlements, the courtyard was built in the Renaissance style. The chateau houses an extensive collection of sculptures, paintings and engravings. The defiant Château d'Aubenas now houses the town hall (Hôtel de Ville). The 18th-century Cathedral of St. Benoît has an imposing hexagonal dome in the Renaissance style covered with colored glazed tiles and is a masterpiece of religious architecture. The building is a protected monument. In addition to collections of religious art, it houses the mausoleum of Marshal and Marshaless d'Ornano - a French general active in the 18th century.
In the heart of the old town is the church of Saint Laurent from the 13th century, which was partially destroyed during the religious wars and rebuilt in 1612. The main facade was built in the neo-Romanesque style only in the 19th century. The interior of the church is very dark, only the stained glass windows in the upper part of the nave bring some light. The choir consists of chairs and altar pieces in Baroque style - made of dark wood without stucco or gilding - and come from the old chapel of the Jesuit College, which was destroyed at the beginning of the 20th century.
We focused our trip on the southern part of the Ardèche, especially the famous Ardèche Gorge between Vallon-Pont-D'Arc and St-Martin-D'Ardèche. This region already belongs to the south of France with Mediterranean plants such as olive trees, vines, oleander, lavender, green holm oaks and fragrant herbs. The Ardèche is a tributary of the Rhone about 120 km long, which rises in the Massif Central. In more than one hundred million years the river Ardèche dug a deep gorge into the limestone plateau between Vallon-Pont-D'Arc and Saint-Martin-d'Ardèche - this is clearly the scenic highlight of this region. Over a length of about 30 km, the rock walls drop almost vertically in places up to 300 meters. In some places the canyon narrows down to a few meters. There are also some dripstone caves on the banks of the Ardèche.
It is easy to explore the gorge by car. The Corniche (D 290) leads along the upper cliff edge and follows almost all the twists and turns of the canyon. Along this panoramic road there are many viewpoints with beautiful views of the massive canyon and the river bends. It is also possible to hike through the canyon, but you should bring a lot of time, because for the whole hike you need 9 to 12 hours. This is only possible at low water, because the river has to be crossed several times. In addition, you should be sure-footed in slippery places and narrow climbs over rocks - sometimes with holding ropes. During heavy rains, the Ardèche can rise unexpectedly and become a raging torrent, which is why some hiking trails are closed for safety reasons.
The Ardèche gorge is a paradise for canoeists and kayakers. You can rent these boats for tours from 8 km to 32 km - even for tours lasting several days. In the high season, however, it is over with rest and relaxation, because the gorge is a popular destination for thousands of visitors. The biggest attraction is the famous Pont d'Arc rock gate - a naturally formed stone bridge over the river - about 45 m high and 60 m wide. This section is also particularly popular with the many paddlers. The gorge has been protected since 1980. There are even sandy beaches at the foot of the bridge. The small town of St-Martin-d'Ardèche is located at the lower reaches of the river and is a popular starting point for a paddling tour through the gorge. We stopped here for a late lunch before heading back to Montélimar.
When we were in the area, a visit to AIX-EN-PROVENCE was always a "must". The city with its unique flair is one of the most visited cities in France. In Aix it was always a big problem to find a parking place. Since the parking garage "Rotonde" has been expanded to 1800 spaces on 5 floors, you are guaranteed to find a spot. From the parking garage we walked to the 450 m long avenue "Cours" Mirabeau" with the shady trees and stately houses from the end of the 18th century on both sides of the street. Once again, one of the many well-attended markets was held here. It was lunch time, and we didn't have to look far because we knew where to enjoy a fine salad and a cool drink.
From Aix-en-Provence it was not far to CASSIS. We had rented an apartment here with a beautiful view of the sea and the Cap de Canaille. The apartment house is located just outside of Cassis not far from the Calanques. We could walk from there to the hiking trails.
East of Marseille, against an imposing rocky backdrop, lies the small harbor bay of Cassis. Especially in midsummer and on weekends, it is as busy as the Côte d'Azur. The car-free harbor promenade with restaurants, bars and small stores forms the center of the town. Cassis has about 3000 hours of sunshine a year, and this naturally favors wine growing. The chalky soils around Cassis grow a white wine that tastes good, but is not exactly cheap.
Cassis has a beautiful scenic environment. A focal point is Cap de Canaille - vertical cliffs rising almost 400 meters from the sea. The high road "Route des Crêtes" runs along the edge of the cliffs with spectacular views. To the west begins the coastal mountain range "Calanques", which can only be reached on foot or by boat. Excursion boats leave from the harbor for the coastal bays lined with high limestone cliffs.
Cassis with the charm of an old fishing village, the pretty harbor, the turquoise sea, the steep cliffs, a medieval fortress is somewhat reminiscent of the "early" St. Tropez. The village is located between Marseille and Toulon in the department Bouches-du-Rhône and has about 8000 inhabitants. You can stroll through the narrow streets or enjoy a good meal or a cool drink in one of the many restaurants or street cafes. The most important branch of the economy is of course tourism, wine growing also plays a role, but fishing is almost insignificant today. At the harbor you can see only a few professional fishermen - the catch is still sold directly from the boat - but yachts and sailboats.
The first settlement took place already from the 5th century BC. The Romans were present here until the Middle Ages, after which the owners changed constantly until the place finally became French in 1481. The present old town at the port was built in the 18th century. Above Cassis is the medieval castle from the 14th century. After falling into disrepair in the 19th century, it has since been restored. It is privately owned with luxury accommodations. The town hall was built in the 16th century and has a grand staircase worth seeing. The church of Saint-Michel was built between 1859 and 1867 of limestone from the local quarry in neo-Romanesque style. The three-nave church is 32 m long and 18 m wide and was restored in 1958.
Around Cassis there are 360 km of well-marked hiking trails - from easy walks to real climbs. In high summer, hiking is often prohibited due to the danger of forest fires. Of course, you can also explore the area by bike. During the year there are various traditional festivals - festival of fishermen, wine festival and a Christmas market, for example.
The market in Cassis is held regularly every Wednesday and Friday. The stalls are distributed in the alleys behind the harbor basin. The number of traders and the products offered vary according to the season. 60 stalls offer fruit, vegetables, meat products, fish and seafood, flowers and plants as well as clothes, kitchen utensils and toys .But the market is also a kind of meeting place for the locals - people know each other, greet each other and go together to a café after the market stroll.
Apart from the swimming possibilities in the Calanques (reachable on foot or by boat), there are two public supervised beaches with clear water in Cassis. Plage de la Grande Mer, with somewhat coarse sand, is located right in town next to the harbor. Plage de Bestouan is a fairly small pebble beach. There are other beaches at the foot of Cap Canaille - "Anse du corton", a small pebble bay and "Anse de l'Arène, a natural bay with rocks and pebbles.
Blue sky and almost no wind - it was really an ideal day to ride the ROUTE DES CRÈTESs between Cassis and La Ciotat. We had done this once before years ago, but it was quite hazy and the visibility therefore not so good. On the second attempt, the high road was unfortunately closed because of too strong winds. The panoramic road, opened in 1969, offers spectacular views along the rocky cliffs to the sea and Cassis, which is up to 400 m lower. The most famous rock on the route is Cap Canaille, visible everywhere from Cassis. There are a few places where you can park the car to enjoy the view. At one of these viewpoints, one could admire some climbers on one of the steep rocks. Apparently this is a well-known climbing rock, because quite a few other climbers were making themselves ready in the parking lot.
From the apartment to the trail at Port Miou Calanque we walked, because there is absolutely no way to park the car there. Port Miou is the longest calanque and a perfect anchorage for small boats and a paradise for sailboat lovers. The fjord-like cut rocky bay is a very beautiful natural harbor and offers space for more than 500 yachts. On this beautiful sunny day, there were many people sailing here. Some were so packed with backpacks that they surely wanted to do a bigger hike in the Calanques, at least to the small beach of the Calanque de Port Pin.
Not far from Cassis is the city of AUBAGNE with about 47000 inhabitants - so already somewhat larger than Cassis. The old town is situated on a hill, and this strategic position allowed to control the traffic routes from Marseille and Aix-en-Provence to Toulon. Moreover, the inhabitants were protected there from the floods of the river Hueveaune and its tributaries. People settled here from the 11th century and Aubagne was then a part of the Roman Empire. In the 12th century, a stone city wall was built and a bridge was built over the river. At the beginning of the 14th century, Aubagne was granted limited autonomy. The small Provençal town of Aubagne has a worth seeing old town with small narrow streets and shady squares with stone fountains. Its location between the hills and yet close to the sea is ideal for visiting the Camargue, the Luberon and the Verdon Gorge. Aubagne is the hometown of Marcel Pagnol, a popular writer in France, many of his novels are set in the area and you can visit the house where he was born. In this town you can still see many old patrician houses from the 16th and 17th centuries. Aubagne has also been home to the headquarters of the French Foreign Legion and an associated museum since 1962.
Not far from our apartment - easily accessible on foot - is the nature trail "SENTIER DU PETIT PRINCE", created in honor of Antoine Saint-Exupéry. Saint-Exupéry is famous for the novel "Little Prince", but he was also a famous pilot in the 2nd World War. On July 31, 1944, at the age of 44, Saint-Exupéry disappeared without a trace during a dangerous mission. It was not until 2004 that parts of his plane wreckage were recovered near Cassis - the mystery of his disappearance was solved. The "Sentier du Petit Prince" was created at Cap Cable as a nature trail with information boards for the rich flora and fauna as well as the history of the region. The well-visited circular trail is 1.6 km long with many magnificent viewpoints. Certainly many people come here for a short hike, because there are no major climbs. This route is accessible all year round. On the way back you will pass the chapel "Notre Dame du Bon Voyage".
LA CIOTAT is more of a port and industrial city with about 35,000 inhabitants. But the city center with parks and gardens as well as small stores and cafes is well worth seeing, and there is a long city beach here. In the harbor you can see fishing boats as well as yachts. The sandy beaches are over 7 km long - there is even a non-smoking beach. Especially at the "Plage du Lioquet" there is a good infrastructure with sanitary facilities, snack bars and small restaurants. In the season you can go sailing, windsurfing as well as water skiing and kayaking.
The CALANQUES National Park is the only one in Europe that includes a lake, land and urban area - the lake area is the largest with about 158,000 ha. There are 140 protected land plant and animal species and 60 protected marine animal species. The Calanques were formed 120 million years ago. The massif consists of a white limestone layer 400 m thick. Valleys have formed under the water, creating real small fjords,
The coastal mountains between Marseille and Cassis form narrow fjords called calanques. Wind-bent pines cling to the high rock faces and peaks. The water is turquoise and the pebbly beach coves are often accessible only by boat or on foot. The calanques are also known as an excellent hiking region. These narrow rocky bays between Marseille and Cassis have cut more or less deep into the limestone cliffs like a fjord and are a great attraction. In the Calanques with the breathtaking panorama the water quality is excellent.
Boat trips to the calanques are offered from Cassis several times a day. Some boats even anchor for a few hours on one of the narrow sandy beaches, which otherwise can only be reached on foot. On the 9 Calanques boat tour you can see the calanques Port Miou, Port Pin, d'En Vau, d'Oule, de Sugiton, de Morgiou and de Sormiou. We waited for a day with blue sky and almost no wind to do this boat tour, which takes about 2 hours. First we went to Port Miou Calanque, already known to us, the longest of all with an anchorage for small boats. The further it goes towards the sea, the more natural this calanque becomes. The chalk cliffs jutting out of the sea are particularly bright here. Calenque de Port-Pin is the smallest of the calanques and got its name from the many Aleppo pines growing on the rocks. The small gently sloping bay, lined with pine trees, has a very Mediterranean flair. There is a sandy and a stony beach here. From here you can no longer see the sea, so deep do the bays meander inland. The Calenque d'En-Vau is particularly spectacular. The water here is turquoise blue, and the light-colored rock faces are very jagged. To get to the pebble beach on foot, you need to be in good shape, because it takes an hour to get here downhill from Marseille, for example. The Calenque du Devenson is secluded and protected by high cliffs up to 200 meters high. You can reach this calenque only by boat or by walking the difficult trail. The cliffs are also popular with climbers because of their wide climbing paths. Calanque de l'Oule is one of the smaller less known fjords. Calanque de Sugiton is also one of the smaller fjords, but is very popular because of its proximity to Marseille. There is even a bus to this bay. The shore is lined with pebble beaches and rocks jut out of the water. This largest and most famous calanque near Marseille is also one of the few inhabited ones. Around the small sandy beach are various fishermen's houses as well as two restaurants. A small hiking trail leads over the cliffs with a breathtaking view. On the left side of the Calanque de Sormieu is the grotto of Cosquer with the famous prehistoric cave paintings.
We made an excursion to ST. CYR S/MER: This small town is about 10 km from La Ciotat and surrounded by vineyards and pine forests. At the beautiful bay of Lecques is one of the most popular beaches. The water in this area has been awarded the "Blue Flag" for many years. In the former small traditional fishing port you can now see mainly sailing boats. In St. Cyr s/Mer there is a famous 18 hole golf course, and you can walk along the 12 km long coastal path from La Madrague harbor to Bandol. A market is held on Sunday mornings throughout the year with more than 140 vendors and a variety of products.
On the way back home we once again made a stopover in CHAMBÉRY. At the Place Saint-Léger - right next to the clock tower - we were just in time at a restaurant for a late lunch with tarte savoyarde, salad and a cool drink.High above the old town, you can see the castle of the Dukes of Savoy. The impressive buildings of the castle complex date from different periods - from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. A large part of the buildings was scaffolded during this visit - probably a renovation was necessary once again. We passed the theater "Charles Dullin). The original theater was built already in 1824, after a fire in 1864 it was rebuilt at the same place. The theater is often called "little Scala" because the interior design of the building was inspired by Milan's Scala .And of course, we visited the elephant fontain (La Fontaine des Elephants) again. The elephant tower is a favorite meeting place of the inhabitants of Chambéry and is known as the fountain "quatre sans-cul", because the elephants are missing their hindquarters. This structure was built in 1838 to commemorate General Count of Boigne and his campaigns - from the one in India he returned filthy rich.

Worst one yet?
This might be the literal worse one I’ve ever seen. First. I was about 40miles away, so in total it was really like 57+miles. For $23. I would never do a 17mile order period!
What’s the worst you have seen?

2023.04.23 15:05 itisallbsbsbs Steven Staynor maybe leads to a big conspiracy

"On the afternoon of December 4, 1972, 7-year-old Steven Stayner was walking home from school in Merced, California, when he was approached by a man passing out religious pamphlets. As reported by The Famous People, the man, who was later identified as Ervin Edward Murphy, said he was a representative of a local church and was seeking donations for his parish.
According to The Famous People, Murphy offered to walk Stayner home, as he wanted to ask his mother for a donation. The boy agreed and gave the man his address. However, as they were walking toward Stayner's home, they were approached by another man, who was driving a white Buick.
The second man, who was later identified as Kenneth Parnell, offered to give Murphy and Stayner a ride. ABC News reports it was a "sleety, wintery day," and Stayner willingly followed Murphy into Parnell's car, as he expected the man to take him home. Unfortunately, the entire incident was part of an elaborate plan to kidnap the boy.
Prior to his kidnapping of Stayner, The Famous People reports Parnell had at least two criminal convictions, including armed robbery and the sexual abuse of a young boy. However, he was convicted in Utah and was not known as a criminal in California. At the time of Stayner's kidnapping, Parnell was employed at the Yosemite Lodge, which according to ABC News, was approximately two hours away from Merced.
While working at the Yosemite Lodge, Kenneth Parnell befriended his coworker Ervin Murphy.
According to ABC News, Parnell stopped to make a call from a payphone shortly after Murphy and Steven Stayner got into his car. When he returned, he told the boy that he called his parents and they said they did not want him anymore. The Famous People reports Parnell then took the boy to a remote cabin near Catheys Valley, California.
As Steven Stayner got older, Kenneth Parnell began planning to kidnap another, younger, boy. As reported by The Famous People, Parnell for a period of time. In addition to participating in the abuse of Stayner, she attempted to help Parnell kidnap a boy who was a member of the Santa Rosa Boys' Club. Thankfully, they were unable to follow through with the kidnapping attempt.
On several occasions, Parnell encouraged Stayner to help him lure another boy into the home. However, Crime Investigation reports Stayner sabotaged Parnell's efforts, as he did not want another boy to suffer through the abuse he had endured. Unfortunately, Parnell eventually convinced another teenage boy, named Randall Sean Poorman, to help him kidnap 5-year-old Timothy White.
Stayner was terribly concerned about White's welfare and immediately began planning to get the 5-year-old away from Parnell and return him home to his parents. As Parnell was working the night shift, Stayner fled the home with White in the middle of the night.
According to Crime Investigation, the boys hitchhiked more than 40 miles to reach Ukiah, California, where White was abducted from. However, Timothy could not remember his address, so Stayner took him to a police station instead. Although Stayner told the younger boy to go inside by himself and tell the officers he had been kidnapped, White refused to leave Stayner's side.
The Famous People reports Stayner had a difficult time adjusting to returning to his parents' home. As he never had any rules, he rebelled when his parents forbade him from drinking alcohol and smoking. It was also difficult for his parents to adjust to having a teenager after remembering their son as a 7-year-old boy. Stayner eventually began drinking more heavily, dropped out of high school, and left his parents' home.
In 1985, at the age of 20, Stayner married 17-year-old Jody Edmondson. According to The Famous People, the couple eventually had two children, named Ashley and Steven, Jr. In addition to assisting in the production of a miniseries based on his experience, Stayner became an advocate for preventing child abduction and helping victims of abuse. He also joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
On September 16, 1989, Steven Stayner was riding his motorcycle home from work when a car suddenly pulled out of a driveway onto the highway. As reported by People, Stayner struck the driver's side of the car at a high rate of speed. As he was not wearing a helmet, he suffered massive head trauma, which led to his death less than one hour after the accident occurred.
Following his brother's death, History reports Cary worked as a handyman at a lodge near Yosemite National Park. According to SFGate, his friends and coworkers described him as being impulsive and prone to seemingly abrupt and violent fits of rage. On July 24, 1999, Cary confessed to killing four women, who had all been guests at the lodge where he was employed. Cary's defense team argued that he suffered from mental illness, in part from the trauma he suffered when Steven was kidnapped. However, he was found guilty on all counts and sentenced to death."

So I posted above parts of the article that I think are very important. Does anyone else find it strange that both Steven's abductoabuser worked in the Yosemite area? One was a victim and the other became a serial killer.
I have noticed on missing posters for kids if you go through them the one single reoccurring thing you can see between them is the overwhelming lack of details. Researching the national pedo child trafficking stories you find that more often than not it is the parents who put their children into it.
They claim Cary became a serial killer due to the trauma of having his brother go missing and his parents not giving him enough attention. But lack of attention does not create a serial killer. So what was really going on in the Staynor house? And isn't it interesting that Steven became an advocate for preventing child abduction and helping victims and then boom he is killed in a hit and run?
Steven probably knew a lot and if he was starting to put stuff together that would make him a huge liability. His escape and rescue of White was a big deal at the time and he was a hero. There was the potential there for him to have a massive amount of influence in any statements he may have given. Noone would have questioned him if he came out and stated anything about abducted kids. So was Steven getting too close to something so that they murdered him? His brother becoming a serial killer at the very least implies there was serious abuse taking place in the Staynor's household. Who were these people and isn't it just a little too much coincidence that there is this Yosemite connection?

Why would a man who had kidnapped and repeatedly sexually abused Steven and then went on to kidnap White only be given a 5 year sentence?
But it gets even more weird: Innocent Steven was molested on the first night of his abduction by the oleaginous pederast. He had no idea that his grandfather lived within cooee distance from the shack Parnell had taken him to.
Little Timmy White was saved from a childhood-ruining fate like Steven’s but would also later die tragically at the untimely age of 35. Timothy James White was a Los Angeles, CA Deputy Sherriff (and a married dad with two children) when he died way before his time on April 1st, 2010 of a blood clot (pulmonary embolism).
Mike Echols (whose birthday was also on April Fool’s Day (1944), the day Tim White died in 2010) also died of a pulmonary embolism at the age of 58 on January 10th, 2003 while in jail. He was the author of the manuscript for the 1989 infamous TV movie about Steven’s hellish plight (“I Know My First Name Is Steven”) which was later published as a book in 1991. Echols was distrusted by some because he worked to expose paedos but many people believed he himself was a closet one. He infiltrated “NAMBLA” (North American Man-Boy Love Association) and started “Better A Millstone” an anti-paedophile organization.
Steven died tragically on September 17th, 1989 when his Kawasaki motorcycle collided (he wasn’t wearing a helmet as someone stole his in July or August of 1989) into a stalled vehicle driven by an illegal alien from Mexico, 28-YO migrant worker Antonio Loera. Kenneth Parnell only served 5 of the paltry 8 years he was sentenced to for the abduction and seven-year molestation of Steven Stayner (his cohort in the illegal act, Ervin Murphy served only 2 years of a 5-year sentence) and Antonio Loera only served 90 days in jail with 1 year of probation (and a measly $100. fine) for killing Steven.
Why wasn’t the disgusting woman named Barbara Mathias ever brought in for crimes of child rape and aiding and abetting a filthy, paedo kidnapper? She lived with the freak Parnell and Steven Stayner for 18 months and had sex with Parnell and under-aged Steven while Parnell was raping Steven. Her own abused and neglected children were raped by Paedo Parnell. I know hardly anyone paid a steep price for killing the soul of the young Steven Stayner but this pervy and down-low pig of a chick got off scot-free.
Parnell, ever the recidivist, died on January 21st, 2008 while in a Vacaville Prison. He was an inmate because in November of 2002 he tried to “buy” a 4-YO boy in Berkeley, CA, thanks to scant justice for his evil and wicked deeds. With Steven Stayner dead and gone and justice never properly served to him for all he had lost, the next True Crime tragedy to happen to the Stayner family was to befall Steven Stayner’s Uncle Jerry, Jesse Jerrold Stayner (42) who was mysteriously killed in his own home on Brantley Street in Merced, CA on December 26th, 1990 with his own .22. His murder has never been solved. At the time Jerry lived with his nephew Cary Stayner (more on him later…), Steven’s older brother.
Vietnam Vet Jerry was a dispatcher at “Leavitts Trucking” and went home that day for lunch only to be ambushed and killed with his own gun. He was shot 3 times…once in the chest and twice in the head. Not only was his killer never found but there is much high-strangeness in this perplexing cold case. Jerry had the company dog “Digger” (a schnauzer) with him that day and “Digger” was found the next day in Jerry’s company truck behind “Beacon Gas Station” on Jean Street and Yosemite Way…the very same streets little Steven Stayner was abducted from 18 years prior on 12/4/1972. “Digger” was found alive and safe and the truck’s keys were in the ignition. The abandoned vehicle crime scene was so odd on its own it reminded me of another cold case that happened 10 years later in Asheville, NC where the still-to-this-day-missing Zebb Wayne Quinn’s (18) car was found two weeks after his equally bizarre January 2nd, 2000 vanishing. His abandoned car was found January 16th in the “Three Little Pigs” restaurant parking lot and near the Mission St. Joseph’s Hospital his mother, a nurse, worked at. Inside the planted vehicle was a 3-month old baby girl puppy (not his), a plastic hotel key, empty beverage bottles and a jacket also not Quinn’s. Orangey-pink lips and exclamation points were also drawn on the car’s rear window with lipstick! I had never heard of dogs being eerily placed and found alive in cars after a terrible crime had transpired until these two very creepy unsolved cases, but I digress.
In retrospect, it’s easy to see why so many believe that Cary Stayner, now a convicted Serial Killer (of 4 women) residing on Death Row in San Quentin Prison in CA was perhaps his Uncle Jerry’s killer on the day after Christmas 1990. Cary was arrested on July 24th, 1999 at the Laguna Del Sol Nudist Camp for the July 21st, 1999 murder of 26-YO German-born, “Yosemite Institute” naturalist Joie Ruth Armstrong who lived with two roommates on Foresta Road in Yosemite National Park. Joie was alone that Wednesday as her boyfriend and her other roommate were out of town. She was packing up to head to Sausalito and Santa Rosa to visit friends and eventually her grandmother the day she was slaughtered and decapitated. If one has read David Paulides’ creepy “Missing 411” tomes about the mysterious vanishings and deaths that happen in National Parks and Forests and is privy to what a secretive killing floor Yosemite National Park is especially, it’s understandable why Joie didn’t want to be alone in that cabin home that summer. Still, it didn’t save her and she was brutally attacked and killed before she had a chance to begin her cheery sojourn towards northern California.
Joie was found on July 22nd, 1999, decapitated and half of what remained of her ravaged body was submerged in a creek’s drainage ditch. Her hands and mouth had been bound by duct tape. Her head was found less than 50 feet from her body. It was a ghastly end for such a peaceful and loving woman who never harmed anybody. But this was his fourth kill as a Serial Killer.
On President’s Day February 15th, 1999 Cary Stayner, a maintenance employee at the Cedar Lodge Motel in Yosemite Valley killed all 3 female occupants in Room #509. Carole Sund (42) had come to El Portal, CA for a mini-vacation with her 15-YO daughter Juli Sund and their family friend from Argentina 16-YO Silvina Pelosso. The Sunds were from Eureka, CA and planned to kick around Yosemite, where Carole honeymooned with her Danish husband Jens in 1978, until February 16th.
All three were slaughtered the day before they were to leave to meet up with the rest of the Sund family. The successful triple murder, the first for the Serial Killer, was probably aided by the fact that occupancy of the motel was down that winter and there were no other guests in their building. Cary knocked on the door claiming a multi-room plumbing issue was at hand and brandished a .22 caliber gun and bound and gagged the three frightened females with duct tape. He then forced the two young girls into the bathroom and then strangled Carole on the bed with the rope he brought along and shot her as well.
He placed the dead body of Carole into the trunk of the red rental car the family picked up in Modesto, CA and then strangled the young Argentinian girl Silvina in the bathtub and shot her as he did Carole. He placed her dead body in the trunk with Carole’s cadaver. He didn’t kill 15-YO Juli right away and the story goes that he moved her to another room and tried to rape her and forced her to perform sexual acts (as Stayner was impotent and suffered from OCD which manifested itself in various forms such as trichotillomania and obsessive cleanliness) until he left the hotel with her around 4 AM, naked and ensconced in a blanket, still bound by duct tape.
In the rental car he drove 90 miles with Juli Sund to Lake Don Pedro in Tuolumne County. There, he virtually decapitated her as he would completely do to Joie Armstrong 5 months later. He dumped her blanket wrapped body, with only the duct tape still on it under a poison oak bush and posed her arms in a pious position crossed neatly on her chest. He then abandoned the red rental vehicle on an old logging road on Highway 108 and torched it with Carole’s and Silvina’s moribund bodies in the trunk. With no way to get back to Cedar Lodge, Cary made his way to the Sierra Village Market and called a cab.
I would call where he had the cab driver drop him off as very strange but the complete Stayner tragedies in totality are extremely strange…he requested to be driven to Yosemite Lodge where his younger brother Steven’s pervo kidnapper worked when he snatched Steven in 1972!
From there he still had to find his way back to Cedar Lodge but before that, he made his way back to Tuolumne County and torched the red rental car entombing the dead bodies of Carole Sund and Silvina Pelosso. He took Carole’s wallet and ponderously dumped it at an intersection in Modesto, CA at Tully & Briggsmore. The wallet was found on 2/19/1999 by a shady and crooked couple (Rachel Lou Campbell & Alexis Paiz) from the notoriously seedy and meth-riddled area aka “the airplane district” of Modesto, CA. They were well-known forgers so they stole Carole’s credit cards.
Two of the trio were not found until Jim Powers, a 40-YO carpenter came upon the torched rental car between tree stumps on March 18th, 1999 on an old, dirt logging road (Wheeler Road) along Highway 108 in Long Barn, CA (“Stanislaus National Forest”). A roll of undeveloped film was found nearby the grisly scene. This roll had photographs of the happy vacationing triad in their last carefree days on Earth before their holiday turned needlessly wicked and homicidal.
With the charred car being found the fate of the mysterious vanishings of the Sunds and Silvina Pelosso was solved but what monster committed the heinous triple homicide? On March 24th, 1999 the Modesto FBI received an anonymous and taunting letter with a map that explained where Juli Sund’s body could be found. They found Juli’s dead body on a remote and steep incline near a reservoir above Lake Don Pedro. Just as the map illustrated.
On March 25th, 1999 Juli’s body was found with black duct tape around her ankles and her head almost extracted from her nude body. The menacing and taunting note exclaimed “we had fun with this one” but why the use of the royal “we”? In the end Cary Stayner confessed to all 4 murders but in digging deep in the case one will see that many, even to this day are left with reasonable doubt that he committed all 4 murders alone. His first entrance into his Serial Killing career produced an almost expert execution with 3 victims and the second expedition with one victim was exceedingly sloppy with trace evidence left all about and his own vehicle was seen in the area at the time of the Joie Armstrong murder.
• Cary Stayner tells the FBI in vivid detail how he raped and denigrated victims Juli Sund & Silvina Pelosso. He denies such things during his candid interviews with KNTV’s Ted Rowlands. There were also major discrepancies in how he described the state of Juli’s discarded body and how it actually appeared when found.
• Referred to the killings using the pronoun “we”. Claimed to have learned many cover-up tricks and tactics from true crime TV.
• His DNA was NOT on the anonymous letter envelope sent to the Modesto FBI. Stayner claims he paid someone $5. to lick the envelope for him and the DNA came up of Hispanic origin.
• Tuolumne County Sheriff Dick Roger~“There was not one shred of evidence or link to him as a suspect in the Sund/Pelosso homicides until he became a suspect in the homicide of Joie Ruth Armstrong”.
• Law Enforcement authorities believed Cary Stayner killed Joie but not the Sunds & Silvina Pelosso.
• Everyone agreed that Cary Stayner was odd and a little weird, but hardly anybody said that he creeped them out or was overly weird. Strange, but in a very likable and friendly way. A little off, but not so much in the way one would avoid him or stay away from him. A bit weird but always friendly and helpful, too nice and quiet. How does someone like that become a homicidal maniac one half of a Californian year?
• When he was a teen and would hang out with his friends and shoot his BB gun he would not shoot animals. A sociopath or psychopath would never have an issue with that and most of them start by hurting and killing small animals.
• Sarah Cox, a friend of Cary Stayner who described him as kind, gentle and easy-going claimed in May of 1999 Cary Stayner bragged to her that “he was already famous but no one knew it yet”. She had no idea what he meant by that and after all was said and done she said she always liked him and when she had to believe all he confessed to she had trouble accepting it. She couldn’t believe the Cary she knew would be so heartless and brutal. She couldn’t bridge those two divergent personas. So many had a hard time believing he was capable of murder and believed all he admitted to just didn’t add up.
• Francis Carrington (father of victim Carole Sund)~“It’s almost like someone else was directing everything in February of 1999 and Stayner just did what he was told”. Cary Stayner’s mother “Kay” Stayner thought this as well.
• Delbert Stayner (Cary Stayner’s father)~“I just hope and pray all the time that he didn’t actually do it and that he is hiding something (taking the fall) for somebody else.” His long suffering family never believed he was capable of bloody murder.
• Jens Sund (husband to Carole Sund and father of Juli Sund) and his lawyer Zachary Zwerdling believed Stayner was not the lone killer. Cary’s sister Jody Stayner also believes a cult was involved with the 4 killings.
• Cary Stayner~“I didn’t feel good about it. I say it’s like matter-of-factly I was doing this, you know. It’s like I’m a split personality.” But Cary Stayner, riddled with affective disorders pertaining to anxiety did NOT suffer from Dissociative Identity Disorder. He had deep psychological issues but they seemed mostly rooted in high-anxiety and low self-esteem. Psychopaths think they are the bee’s knees, Cary Stayner never had that kind of chutzpah.
• During the second trial, Cary Stayner was emotional and broke down and blocked his eyes and ears when he had to look at the grisly crime scene photos of Juli Sund. When his FBI confession was played back in court, he blocked his ears. If he readily confessed, and was an abject psychopath, why would he even flinch at either scenario played back to him? He would either revel in it or not care a lick. That’s how sociopaths roll. Instead he rocked back and forth with high anxiety. He was always averting his eyes and cradling his face in his hands.
• US Senator from Iowa Charles Grassley was very vocal at the time with how bumbling he thought the FBI was and initially did not believe Stayner was the killer.
The final oddity that is loosely connected to the Stayner Family Tragedies is the allusion to Steven Stayner’s personal hell in a possible micro-pattern in the infamous but never completely understood “Smiley Face Killings” RE: a 2002 cluster that consisted of drowned and/or missing college-aged men in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
One private detective whose site is long defunct found a series of micro-patterns in the proximity of the hot-bed area of the “Smiley Face Killer” cases. He claimed to have found a series of deaths that spelled out a name. The name spelled was NEMEC and that word was used because the child actor who played Steven Stayner in the TV Movie “I Know My First Name Is Steven” was Corin Nemec. The name “NEMEC” spells out the towns in Wisconsin and Minnesota where the inebriated college men vanished from or ended up dead in a body of water. It always struck me as very weird and a bit absurd because I could never figure out who would remember Corin Nemec except another child who was perhaps a fan at the time the tv movie was making headlines and why would someone orchestrate killings to spell out his last name? It is indeed a strange tie to the already strange and tragic tale of the Family Stayner. Here is what the acronym “NEMEC” stood for RE: the 2002 “SFK” crimes…
New London, MN-8/1/2002—Daniel Lee Newville (18)
Eau Claire, WI-9/29/2002—Craig Burrows (23)
Minneapolis, MN-10/31/2002—Christopher Jenkins (21)
Eau Claire, WI-11/6/2002—Michael Noll (22)
Collegeville, MN-11/9/2002—Joshua Cheney Guimond (21) NEVER FOUND!
Cary Stayner was actively on trial at the time of these 5 vanishings in MN and WI. All ended up dead in a lake except the still missing Joshua Guimond.
Famed San Francisco lawyer Melvin Mouron Belli was being hired by Steven Stayner’s widowed wife to sue Merced, CA after his death in 1989. ZODIAC taunted Belli and wrote letters to him during his active killing season in CA in 1968 and 1969. This same detective who found the “SFK” micro-patterns also found a ZODIAC link (My own find of the common word “Tuolumne” will be familiar to ZODIAC enthusiasts who know ZODIAC made a pay-phone call at the cross of Spring Road & Tuolumne Street in Vallejo, CA on the 4th of July in 1969 after he murdered 22-YO Darlene Ferrin. Tuolumne County was where Cary Stayner dumped the bodies in the Sund/Pelosso murders).
In 2001, University of MN student Ken Christiansen (19) died after drinking with his college buddies in Duluth, MN on April 13th, 2001 which happened to be a “Friday The 13th” as well as “Good Friday”. His last name has “Christian” in it and near where his body was found in Chester Creek three days later, there was graffiti of a blue cross that read “Jesus Saves” and next to it was a smiley face, hence the moniker “The Smiley Face Killer”.
Other graffiti in the area that ties this “SFK” clue to ZODIAC, at least in a loose way is also the placement of a Gary Snyder poem under the Chester Creek Bridge about the death of young, white males that was originally published in August of 1969 in San Francisco, CA where the area was deeply concerned with both Vietnam and The ZODIAC Killer at the time.
A line in the poem states “The Christian has long been dead”. Ken Christiansen? I’m not sure but when I was deeply researching “SFK” I knew next to nothing about ZODIAC and now I am pretty fluent with the case so it makes me wonder if that detective who had that fascinating website on “The Smiley Face Killer” and discovered all the micro patterns knew far more than he ever let on. The micro-patterns were so extraordinarily clever and canny I had always wondered if the detective was hella smart or if HE was “The Smiley Face Killer”. In 2012 I went back to dig into my own “SFK” research and using his acronym model I tried to find hidden clues and micro-patterns but none were found and instead of spelling out certain words it was just an amalgamation of alphabet soup. Sometime after 2012 the website ceased to exist but I never forgot the clues it purported

2023.04.21 21:51 Dead-Bowl-4572 The FULL Seaside Mythos Timeline/Trilogy (UPDATED)

The 1998 Seoul Experience

"Are we really spending the whole night out here?" I asked, groaning as my knees ached from the heavy camping equipment on my back.
"Yeah, genius," Connie said. "How else would we spend our last night of high school?"
I rolled my eyes as we went off-trail and randomly wandered through the mountain forest looking for a good clearing to set up in at the peak. The sun was setting in a few hours, and from the rainfall a few days ago there was still a mist hanging over the bamboo and oak trees.
"Second year is hardly the 'last night of high school'. We'll be lost and dead by morning probably. What are we going to do anyways?"
"Really? Because being drunk would make it even more fun." Connie laughed, holding up a box of Soju.
"Have fun rolling off the mountain in your sleep," I laughed. "Aren't Kami and Yang supposed to meet us at the mountaintop?"
"Yeah, they're 'supposed' to. They're probably shit-faced already."
It was the summer of 1998 in South Korea.
I'd say I was around the age of fifteen then, and I was notorious for picking (and sometimes losing) fights with everyone, and being a 'delinquient'. We were going on a two-night camping trip to celebrate our last day of high school, and to celebrate the start of the summer. I had met Connie in the second grade, and we had grown up together around Seoul for almost a decade. She was around five-foot-five, with dark hair with a blonde streak always tied into a bun or ponytail, with a tattoo on her left hand.
Our other friends, Yang and Kami, were Connie's idiot older cousins who were somehow worse than me. We had planned to get drunk both nights, eating junk food all day and swimming in the creeks. Connie and I finally made our way to the peak, celebrating as I looked across the entire mountain range, and the fog slowly building at the peaks. Our spot we had set up in was this beautiful little clearing with a massive flat boulder embedded into the ground we could sit or sleep on top of. With the warm weather combined with the humidity and lack of mosquitos, it really was the perfect camping spot.
"Finally, fuck this tent." Connie sighed, stretching and laughing after we finally set up the tents.
"Where's your cousins?" I asked. "It's been like, an hour."
"Let me call them, give me a second," Connie said, pulling out her satallite phone and calling Kami. "Yo, it's me. Where hell are you guys? On the other side? We're over here, dumbass."
Connie hung up and rolled her eyes. "They got lost, again."
A couple minutes later, Kami and Yang came around the corner, finally appearing as they carried their massive backpacks, looking tired and relieved as hell.
"Hey, it's Connie and her boyfriend. Sorry it took so long to find you guys, Yang kept insisting you two just didn't make it up the mountain yet."
"I'm not her boyfriend, you dumbass." I laughed.
Kami and Yang both scoffed. "Right, so keep dreaming. Where's the fire?"
"The fire?" Connie asked. "Oh shit, camping on these mountains is technically illegal, so I didn't want the smoke to attract any attention."
"Fuck it, it's the last day of school, we can do whatever we want." I said, marching over to the downhill slope and collecting dead branches and sticks.
Kami and Yang helped me as we grabbed as much wood and leaves as possible, using a circle of rocks to make a makeshift campfire as we placed our firewood inside it. We lit it and cheered as the flames roared in the dead of night, and the four of us all sat on logs around the fire as we broke out the alcohol and drank.
"Holy shit, I'm wasted." Kami laughed, burping.
"You barely drank one bottle, 'wasted' my ass," I replied. "So do we have anything specific we're doing tonight? It's a long night."
"Yeah, we could go explore the mountain… at night. You know, see if the legends are real." Yang suggested.
"Legends my ass," Connie rolled her eyes. "What, the faceless 'god' is coming for us?"
The 'faceless god' was an urban legend around our town based around an ancient being or spirit that lived under the mountain, which would kill travelers who ventured onto the mountain at night. Obviously, I believed that horseshit when I was like ten, but now that we were adolescent idiots, we knew it was fake.
"Yeah, and it'll come to get your ass first," I said.
We cooked hot dogs and marshmallows on the fire, talking about the school year and telling stories from our younger days. It was later in the night after we had all gotten tired and went to bed in our tents and sleeping bags when I was woken up by Kami.
"Hey, you awake?"
"Yeah," I said. "What's up?"
"Don't panic, but I think there's someone outside the tent."
My heart dropped, but I tried to keep it cool.
"Yeah, right. You're fucking with me again, right?"
"Nope. I don't think it's any of the others… be quiet and we'll hear it again." Kami said.
We both sat in silence for a few seconds, and after a tense minute, I heard clear, heavy movement around ten feet away from our tent. After a bit I realized they were actually very slow, deliberate and heavy footsteps moving in a circular motion around us.
"This is the exact reason I brought this," Kami whispered.
He reached into his duffel bag and pulled out a fucking katana, with a black blade and rubberized handle. He pulled it out of the sheath, feeling the edge as he held it with both of his hands and reached over for the lamp.
"You brought a fucking katana?" I asked.
"No shit, this is fucking spooky. Grab the broken beer bottle right outside."
My heart beating, I listened for the noises again as I timidly opened the zipper to the tent door, and I felt around outside until my hands grasped around the hand of a broken bottle we had forgotten to throw away. I instantly pulled my hand in, relieved as I held the jagged weapon and glanced at Kami.
"What do we do?" I whispered.
"I really don't think it's anyone in our group," Kami said. "Let's jump out in five seconds and see who it really is."
My heart dropped. "That's a bad fucking idea."
"I'm sick of waiting around, it's probably a rabbit or something. We go out on the count of three."
"Dude, I-"
"One, two… three."

2023.04.12 05:22 User_3971 CCA/MHA/RCA/PSE: Skip the line! Career jobs posted within. 4-11 rollup.

Good afternoon. Brief listing of CAREER JOBS pulled from usps.com/careers/ for your convenience. Rurals that are pissed enough to quit but don't know what the fuck else to do - apply to Maintenance. We need good mechanics and there's much fewer scans.
Some jobs may be part-time regular however all listed jobs should qualify for federal benefits from day one. To save text I have only listed the location and date of posting for each. Use the posting number for your search term. LC and MM are entry-level Maintenance. Here is a testimonial from a recent convert, prima1981.
NOTE: USPS NEVER charges a fee for entrance exams. If payment is requested during the application process, walk the fuck away, go to usps.com/careers/ and APPLY THERE. We even has a video walkthrough prepared.

Picks Of The Week (by u/lefuniname)

1. Polyrom - Rumbling Bass / Techno Syndrome 💎 [Drum & Bass Arena]

Recommended if you like: Waeys, Particle, Trex
Every now and then, a completely new name comes along, with a sound that's so clean and precise that you can't help but immediately fall in love. Every single time I actually start researching these new names more deeply, however, I realise there's a reason for this insane quality: they have been around under a different name before! Some have a separate alias with a different subgenre sound running concurrently, some are also doing a lot of non-DnB stuff, and some simply wanted a brand new start after a lot of time in the scene. Polyrom seems to be falling into the latter category.
Russian producer Pavel Zhigarev, sometimes also called Paul Andrew, has been in the biz for quite some time now. While he began his musical journey playing guitar in rock bands, he and his brother also played around with a whole lot of Pop and Electronic music records during their formative years, mashing up their favourites from each side of the spectrum until they had accumulated enough of them to compile their very first "Geneticmix". So when Pavel then wanted to start releasing his own music, a couple years after first getting into DnB back in 2006 (!), he thought back fondly to these humble beginning and decided to call his artist alias Genetic Bros! With a mysterious masked stage presence, he was tearing up quite a few dancefloors soon after the launch of the project, but what really kicked things off was none other than Futurebound signing him to dancefloor behemoth Viper Recordings. During the early 2010s, he went from appearing on Viper's Summer Slammers compilation to releasing on Formation and Hospital Records, followed by a whole solo EP on Viper.
This lead to all kinds of successes, like multiple uploads to UKF and airplay on BBC 1xtra’s Crissy Criss show, but that still wasn't even all he did during these few years. Together with Steve KG, he had a little side project called Kinetics, whose music even landed on UKF's Bass Culture compilation, but an arguably even bigger thing was his label, Artist Recordings, later also known as Artist Music UK. Considering how common it is for new labels nowadays to at least start out with this kind of concept, Artist Recordings' approach of releasing all of their music for free was actually quite ahead of the times. In their sadly way too short time as a label, they managed to put out some of the earliest releases from then-newcomers Maduk, Grafix and Rameses B!
Starting in 2013/2014 and basically only ending in 2020, it started to become a little quieter around Pavel though. He was still working on music and media in general all this time, just in less public-facing ways. Not only was he the senior composer and sound producer for Pesni, the biggest Russian music talent show on air (and not a misspelling of something else, get your mind out of the gutter!), in 2018 he even founded his very own "Music & SFX Laboratory" called NOIZLAB! Chances are that you have actually seen his artwork and animation in action, with clients like NHL, Porsche, Audi, Tommy Hilfer, Samsung and HTC only scratching the surface of who he worked with since.
While this is obviously all working out amazingly for him, he never quite lost that urge to produce drum and bass, which is why he eventually returned to the scene in 2020 as Polyrom, with the extremely fonky, incredibly fresh banger Movement on RAM Records' annual compilation. For two and a half years since then, there was not much more to say about the project yet, but luckily, that changed today! After connecting and getting along well with UKF's Sampo and Drum & Bass Arena's A&R person in the backstage area at a show in London, he decided to send over some bangers of his and, as you can probably guess yourself, they signed two of them right away. Now finally released on said arena for the gladiators of the drums and the basses, which I don't think I even have to introduce here, Polyrom returns with Rumbling Bass / Techno Syndrome!
As you'd expect from such a straight-forward title, Rumbling Bass opens with a colourful assortment of (poly-)rumbling, well, basses, minimalistic drums and all sorts of atmospheric little sounds, all leading up to the iconic rumbling bass vocal sample. Once the voice announces what we're listening to, everything falls into place. The groovy bass is cranked up to such phat levels that I'm afraid my downstairs neighbours' silverware is going to fall off the table, the drums are pushed to maximum funkiness and will get every head to bopping status in no time, each of the heavily reverberated atmospheric sounds and synth stabs are expertly woven into the bass' ever-looping melody, creating a whole symphony of excellent deep and darkness. If you just look at each of the sounds making up the tune on their own, you'd see that while super cleanly produced, a lot of them mostly don't change much throughout the track, but, first of all, there's so many of them that you lose track of each individual piece, and, second of all, they are all arranged in such a tightly structured and musically satisfying way that they become more than the sum of its parts. Just a great tune all-around!
Our opener still had a tiny bit of that Movement-fonk to it, and followup Techno Syndrome's intro might have you believe there's some Disco vibes incoming, but soon enough, it makes it very clear that there's a new sheriff in town and his name is Filth, first name Absolute. With a da-da-da-dada-damn catchy chopped up vocal sample keeping us company, we are launched into the world of incredibly filthy deep and darkness, where the sub-heavy wobbly basses fly way under the radar, freely (poly-)roaming all over the place. While our vocal sample proves to be a worthy companion at first, it slowly but surely retreats back to safety, until eventually, the basses don't hold back one bit anymore and menacingly growl you into submission.
While a bit unexpected after his first Polyrom single, this new double-tracker of his is so well produced, so tightly executed, has such satisfying progressions and is just so damn all-around filthy that I don't even care that it's a different style. As far as I'm concerned, as long as the quality stays like this, Pavel can do whatever the hell he wants, I'm gonna be there to listen.
Other deep and dark stuff from this week: - Brain - Altered Zone EP [T3K] (100% of the proceeds are donated to charity!) - Arkale Dre - Take The Fall EP - Nami - 4 Minutes EP - Sudley - Rapidash EP - Revan - Night Beats / About Time

2. Binary - Lost [All172Things]

Recommended if you like: Notequal, Synergy, SLWDWN
It will never cease to amaze me just how deep the well of Dutch talent really goes. Even after almost three years of doing this, with me trying (and often failing, but that's beside the point!) my best to keep my artist selection as diverse as possible, it feels like there are still whole subsections of Dutch DnB artistry that I haven't covered yet. So let's try to chip away at it a bit again, by talking about dynamic duo Binary!
Based in Nijmegen, Anwet Verdonk and Kasper Ponjee were not necessarily involved in the usual big scenes of Amsterdam or Rotterdam you might be thinking of when imagining the Dutch scene. To still be able to quench their thirst for DJing, Anwer decided to create the SoundBwoyMurdahSystem collective, with which he, as Mission Control, Kasper, as Kappie, and a couple more like-minded mates turned all sorts of local and online places upside-down. While Kasper started out with the slower tempos of Dubstep before eventually transitioning over to the holy lands of DnB, Anwer seemed to have been a zealot of the Neuro fastness since the very beginning, even putting out a couple of solo tunes.
Around 2016/2017, Anwer and Kasper decided to expand their musical relationship even further, now adding DnB production to the list. Since Mission Control & Kappie is a bit of a clunky name for this project, they instead got inspired by the duality of their collaborative kinship and rebranded as Binary! Starting out in 2017 with a mostly straight-forward Neuro sound, they quickly found homes for their tunes on underground platforms like RustOut, ION Music and Raving Panda, but soon enough, they became regulars on Bytecode's Kill Tomorrow and you started hearing their sonics on Korsakov, Red Light Records, Axon Records and, of course, 0101 Music. Not to mention them becoming label managers at WTF! Throughout this wild journey through the labels, however, their sound tactically shifted from "normal" neuro to the more atypical newschool techy kind, becoming more and more precise and just straight-up piercing. In other words, their sound became something that a certain meme cat would feature on his SoundCloud.
Real ones know who I'm talking about of course, but let's tell the whole story: A couple of years ago, Northern-Spanish DnB superfan and occasional DJ Axel Hadzi, aka Koshmaar, began uploading clips of his favourite techy and forward-thinking dubs on his SoundCloud page, All172Things. It wasn't just a dump of random ID clips though, it was a carefully organised catalogue of upcoming music by some of the scene's most interesting artists around, no matter how underground they might be. Not only did he help build the hype for some of these artists, he also eventually started compiling released works of his favourite newschool artists into his New Wave Project playlists, laying the first building block for a community born out of his sheer endless passion. Over time, the account became more and more popular, and around 2021 he decided to use his platform for even more good.
First, he introduced the All172Things mix series, where the likes of Niallo, Moytra, Ewan Bristow, Karraki, In The Lab and many more would end up showcasing their latest dubs. Next, with the help of man like Gaijin Graphics, he gave the channel a whole new look in 2022, just in time for the unveiling of another project of his: premieres! That's right, since a bit more than a year the channel has been uploading a ton of upcoming tunes from all sorts of sick labels, with the total count having already crossed the 220+ mark (!!) at the time of writing. Even that wasn't quite enough for him though, and so he set out to add yet another pillar to his DnB empire: A label! Even though this particular part of the project has only been around since the beginning of the year, with releases by Sign, Nebulate and now also Binary, the label has already been featured on VISION Radio and at this rate might actually become a worthy Best Newcomer Label award contender!
So, what did the Dutch duo bring to Lost, their All10101100Things debut? Plenty of heat, of course! After showing off their masterful ability to create uniquely haunting atmospheres in the intro, which also doubles as a great tease for what's to come later, they fire off this insane barrage of fine-tuned rapid-fire synths, accentuated with heavy-hitting newschool snares and straight-up menacing bass responses. Throughout this first drop, we're already getting plenty of fun little variations, from a redistribution of the call and response frequencies to a little 4x4 expedition, and the second half is no different, with an extended, even more pounding 4x4 section, for all you fast techno lovers out there.
Binary have always been putting out one great tune after the other, but this new one might be favourite yet. They struck the perfect balance between clean and incredibly hard-hitting, beautiful and menacing, and a couple other very positive adjectives.
Other techy things from this week: - Zombie Cats - FADE OUT - Sorza - Ego Dissolution (Trinist Remix) - Notequal - Reversal Upsurge - Holotrope - Falling - Niallo - Floating Away

PODCAST: https://ayearofwarandpeace.podbean.com/e/ep1501-hail-and-farewell-george-moore-ave-chapter-33/
PROMPTS:
  1. BYO
Today's Reading, via Project Gutenberg:
Stopping suddenly, he told me that T. P. Gill, the editor of the Daily Express, expected me to lunch, and he was anxious I should meet him, for he was one of the leaders of the movement; an excellent journalist, he said, who had been editing the paper with great brilliancy ever since he and Horace Plunkett had changed it from an organ of mouldering Unionism into one interested in the new Ireland.
Somebody—Gill, perhaps—had been kind enough to send me the Express during the winter, and I used to read it, thinking it even more unworldly than any of the little reviews of my youth edited by Parnassians and Realists. All the winter I had read in it stories of the Celtic Gods—Angus, Dana, and Lir, intermingled with controversies between Yeats and John Eglinton regarding the literary value of national legend in modern literature; and when the Irish Literary Theatre was spoken of, the Express seemed to have discovered its mission—the advancement of Celtic drama. Angus and Lir were lifted out of, and Yeats and Edward lifted into their thrones; and on the Saturday before the arrival of the company in Dublin the Express had printed short but succinct biographies of the actors and actresses whom I had picked up in the casual Strand. If the entire Comédie Française had come over with plays by Racine and Victor Hugo, not the old plays, but new ones lately discovered, which had not yet been acted, the Express could not have displayed more literary enthusiasm. A newspaper so confused and disparate that I had never been able to imagine what manner of man its editor might be. A tall, dark, and thin man with feverish, restless hands and exalted diction whenever he spoke, was dismissed for a short, square, and thick-set man like a bull-dog, with great melancholy eyes, and he in turn was dismissed for a stout, elderly man with spectacles, very commonplace and polite, speaking little, and not interested at all in literature or in theosophy, but in something quite different, and I had often sat thinking what this might be, without being able to satisfy myself, getting up from my chair at last, saying that only Balzac could solve the problem; only he could imagine the inevitable personality of the editor of the Daily Express.
He would have foreseen that the editor of this extraordinary sheet wore a Henri Quatre beard; whereas the beard, the smile, the courtesy, the flow of affable conversation, were a surprise to me. Balzac would have foreseen the wife and children, and their different appearances and personalities; whereas I had always imagined the editor of the Express a bachelor. Balzac would have divined the family man in his every instinct, despite the round white brows shaded by light hair, curling prettily; despite the eyes—the word that comes to the pen is furtive, but for some reason, perhaps from repetition, the expression furtive eyes has come to mean very little. Gill's eyes seem to follow a dream and then they suddenly return, and he watches his listener, evidently curious to know what effect he is producing upon him, and then the eyes wander away again in pursuit of the dream. The coming and going of his eyes interested me until the nose caught my attention—a large one with a high bridge, and with those clean-cut nostrils without which every nose is ugly. But the nose is said to be an index of character, telling of resolution; and the hand, too, is said to be a tell-tale feature: I noticed that Gill's hands were small and white, with somewhat crooked and ill-shapen nails. A hand of languid movement—one that went to the beard, caressing it constantly, reminding one of a cat licking its fur, with this difference, however, that a cat is silent while it licks itself, whereas Gill could talk while he dallied with his beard. It has been said, too, that a man's character transpires in his dress, and Gill was carefully dressed. His shirt-collar looked more like London than Dublin washing, and I asked myself if his washing went to London while I admired the carefully chosen necktie and the pin. The grey suit fitted his shoulders so well that I decided he must have gone back and forwards a good many times to try on, and then that he did not give his tailor much trouble, for his figure was well knit, square shoulders, clean-cut flanks. A delicate man withal, said the hollow chest, and I remembered that Yeats had told me that last winter Gill had been obliged to go abroad in search of health.
We were not altogether strangers, as he reminded me—he had had the pleasure of meeting me in London. We had been fellow-workers on the Speaker, and so it gave him much pleasure to see me in Ireland. I'm afraid that Ireland doesn't want either Yeats or me, I growled out; and this remark carried us right into the middle of the controversy regarding The Countess Cathleen. When he was in London Martyn had spoken to him on the subject, and had told him that a learned theologian had been consulted and that the incident of the crucifix kicked about the stage by the starving peasantry had been cut out.
I don't remember the incident you speak of. Martyn insisted on its omission, you say? Without answering me, Gill continued, speaking very slowly, hesitating between his words. He seemed to take pleasure in hearing himself talk, and this was strange to me, for he was saying nothing of importance, merely that the subject of the play was calculated to wound the religious susceptibilities of the Irish people; and while stroking his beard he continued to speak of the famine times and of the proselytising by the Protestants: memories like these were too deep to be washed away by mere poetry, though, indeed, he would yield to nobody in his admiration of Yeats's poetry; and if Yeats had consulted him regarding the choice of a subject for a play, he certainly would not have advised him to choose The Countess Cathleen. All the same, he had done all that he possibly could do for the Irish Literary Theatre, as I must have seen by his paper. He had even done more than what had appeared in the paper, for he had, himself, sent The Countess Cathleen to two priests, and placing himself in the light of a wise mediator, he told me that both these priests had given their verdict in favour of the play. One of them, a Jesuit of considerable attainments, had pointed out that the language objected to was put into the mouths of demons.
Who could not be expected to say altogether kind things of their Creator, I interjected. Gill laughed, and his laughter seemed to reveal a temperament that ripples, pleasantly murmuring, over shallows, never sinking into a deep pool or falling from any great height. A pleasant stream, I said to myself, only I wish it would flow a little faster. The opposition to The Countess Cathleen in the Antient Concert Rooms was no doubt regrettable, but I must not judge Ireland too harshly. The famine times were remembered in Ireland; and I had lived too long out of Ireland to sympathise with the people on this point. Yeats had lived more in Ireland; but he, too, was liable to misjudge Ireland, being a Protestant. Gill felt that there was an Ireland in Ireland that Protestants could not understand, and he repeated that if Yeats had come to him in the first instance he certainly would have advised him to choose another subject. When Parnell consulted him at the time of the split—I begin to be interested, I said to myself, and wondering what advice Gill had given to Parnell, all my attention was strained to hear. The fault was mine, no doubt, but at the supreme moment Gill's words and voice began to ripple vaguely, like the stream, and I heard that if a great Liberal newspaper had existed then (he used the word Liberal in its broadest sense), it would have been possible to arrive at some compromise between Parnell and the party, and himself would have gone to the prelates, and knowing Ireland as well as he did, he thought that the situation might have been saved. The present situation might be saved if somebody came forward and gave Ireland a newspaper, a newspaper bien entendu, that would give expression to all the different minds now working in Ireland. He was doing this in the Express, in a small way, for his enterprise was checked by lack of capital. All the same, he had managed to bring more culture into the Express than had ever entered into it before—John Eglinton, AE, Yeats. Under his direction the Express was the first paper that had attempted to realise that Ireland had an aesthetic spirit of her own.
This is true, I said to myself, and I lent to Gill an attentive ear, thinking he was interested in art; but he glided away from my questions, passing into an account of the co-operative movement, apparently as much concerned in dairies as in statues; and for an hour I listened to his slumbrous talk until at last it seemed to me that a firkin rolled out of the door of one of the dairies, and that I could see a dainty little man fixed upon it for ever, a sort of petrifaction having taken place, a statue upon butter or—
My reverie was broken by Gill, who questioned me regarding my first impressions of Dublin, if I would be kind enough to write them out for him, and if not, he was interested to hear them for his own pleasure. On the subject of Dublin the leader of the Renaissance seemed to hold far-reaching views. He knew Paris well, and feeling that the conversation would be agreeable to me, he spoke of the immense benefit of the work that Baron Haussmann had done there; and then, as if spurred by a sense of rivalry, he described the great boulevards he would cut through Dublin if he were entrusted with the dictatorship of Ireland for fifteen years. Nor was this all. The University question could be dealt with, and the Home Rule question to the satisfaction of all parties. It seemed to me that I had come upon the original fount of all wisdom; it flowed from him in a slow but continual stream, bearing along in its current different schemes; one, I remember, was for the construction of a new bank, for the bankers would have to be housed when they were turned out of the old House of Parliament. Whereas I was thinking whether his father was Balzac or Turgenev, and perhaps this point might never have been decided if he had not suddenly begun to talk about Trinity College, saying there was a wider and more Bohemian culture, one to which he would like to give effect. By means of the newspaper you were speaking of just now? I asked.
The newspaper would be necessary, but a café was necessary too. A café was Continental, and the new Dublin should model itself more upon Continental than British ideas; and we talked on, discussing the effect of the café on the intellectual life in Dublin. The café would be useless unless it remained open until two in the morning. A short Act of Parliament might easily be introduced, and the best site would be the corner of Grafton Street and the Green. The site, however, had this disadvantage—it would go to make Stephen's Green the centre of Dublin, and this was not desirable. The old centre of Dublin, which was in the north, should be restored to its former prosperity. Another café might be established on the quays, an excellent site were it not for the Liffey. I mentioned that I had only seen the river when the tide was up, and Gill told me that when it was out the smell was not pleasant. The new drainage, however, would soon be completed, and a café could be opened at the corner of O'Connell Street, but for the moment the corner of Grafton Street seemed the more practicable site.
A question regarding the probable cost of the café brought a slight cloud into his face, but it vanished quickly as soon as he had stroked his beard, and he spoke to me at great length about a man whom he had met in America, and with whom he had become great friends. This man was a millionaire, and his ambition was to build hotels in Ireland, whether for the sake of adding to his millions, or diminishing them for the sake of Ireland, Gill did not know. Probably his friend was influenced by both reasons, for, of course, to found hotels that did not pay some dividend would be of no benefit to anybody. Gill continued to talk of possible dividends, and I listened to him with difficulty, for my curiosity was now keen to hear from him the reciprocation of the millionaire in the building of hotels and the founding of a real Parisian café at the corner of Stephen's Green and Grafton Street, and I waited almost breathless for the answer to this conundrum. It was simple enough when it came. After the building of the hotels a great deal of money would remain over, and with this money the millionaire would build the café.
There isn't a drop of Balzac blood in him, I said to myself; he is pure Turgenev, and perhaps Ireland is a little Russia in which the longest way round is always the shortest way home, and the means more important than the end.
Two or three young men who wrote in the Express every night had been invited to come to take coffee with us after lunch, and their arrival was a relief to both Gill and myself. We had been talking of Ireland for several hours, and Gill had begun to speak of the time when he would have to go down to the office. The young men, too, wished to speak to him about what they were to write that evening, for Gill explained that he did not write very much himself in his newspaper; his notion of editing was to pump ideas into people; and after listening for some time I got up to go. It was then that Gill told me that the newspaper of which he was the editor was offering a great dinner at the Shelbourne Hotel to the Irish Literary Theatre, and he hoped that I would be present.
On this we parted, and a few moments afterwards I found myself lost in Nassau Street, for Nature has denied me all sense of topography, and while looking up and down the street wondering how I should get to Merrion Square, I caught sight of Yeats coming out of a bun-shop. By calling wildly I succeeded in awakening him from his reverie. He stopped, and in answer to my question told me that he had been to Edward's club; but Edward was not there. With one of his theologians, no doubt, both deep in your heresies, I said, and we walked on in silence until a newsboy posted his placard against some railings, and we read: Letter from Cardinal Logue condemning The Countess Cathleen.
Yeats pointed, saying, There's Edward, and I saw him in his short black jacket and voluminous grey trousers reading the newspaper at the kerb. There will be no plays tonight! we cried. His glasses dropped from his high nose, but he caught them as they fell. You haven't seen Logue's letter, then? He admits that he hasn't read the play; he has only judged it by extracts. And you can't judge a work by extracts. Besides, I said, the two priests to whom the play was sent have decided in its favour. Gill told me that he showed you some letters from them. As well as I remember he showed me—But, my dear friend, you must know whether he showed you a letter or not. Yes, I'm practically sure that I saw a letter, but I'm not affected by stray opinions, whether they are in favour of the play or against it. You may not have sent the play to two priests, but you brought it to a theologian. That was in England. Of course you were then in a Protestant country. And did he decide in favour of the play? No, he didn't. Very much the other way.
Edward's sense of humour does not desert him even when he fears that his soul may be grilled; and he entertained us with an account of the evening he had spent with the theologian.
I had to bite my lips to prevent myself from laughing when he climbed up the steps of a ladder, taking down tomes, and he descended step by step very carefully, for he is an old man, and putting the tome under the lamp—
He read aloud the best opinions on the subject. It was like going to a lawyer. Blackstone writes according to So-and-so Vic. Who was this theologian? Edward refused to give up his name, and I could not guess it, although he allowed me many guesses. Somebody you never heard of. Then I am to understand the plays will go on as usual? I see no reason why not. The Cardinal hasn't read the play; he has put himself out of court. But if he had read the play, Edward, and had interdicted it?
An interdiction would be quite another matter. I'm not obliged to accept stray opinions, but an interdiction would be very serious. It would be a very serious matter for me to persist in supporting a play that the head of the Church in Ireland deemed harmful!
I suggested that Dr Walshe was a sufficient authority in his own diocese.
There's that, too, and I wouldn't be surprised if Walshe said some of those sharp things that ecclesiastics can, on occasion, say about each other.
What enrages me, I said, turning to Yeats, is the insult offered to mankind by this Cardinal. But you don't seem interested, Yeats. I can't understand why you are so little interested in the general question, apart from the particular.
I am interested; but the matter isn't so serious as you think. I know Ireland better than you, and am more patient.
Yeats's words appeased me, and without knowing it my thoughts were drawn away from the peasant Cardinal to the spring weather, and I relinquished myself to the delight of the warm air, to the beauty of the sunlight among the flowering trees, to the sky, so blue, so ecstatic, lifting the heart to rapture; and knowing Edward's love of architecture, and feeling he needed a little compensation for the courage he had shown, I called his attention to a piece of monumented wall, designed to conceal the rear of a gardener's cottage, but a beautiful thing in itself, and adding to the beauty of the square.
Two curving wings, an arched recess, vases and terra-cotta plaques—very eighteenth century, a century to which Edward has never been able to extend his sympathy, calling it with some truth a century of boudoirs, and its genius the decoration of an alcove. His sympathies flow out more naturally to the cathedral, to the monastery, and to the palace, never very generously to the dwelling-house.
You've always said, my dear friend, that you understand public life much better than private.
Edward is always willing to discuss his ideas, but for the moment he was taken with the beauty of the monumented wall.
As a screen, he said, it is beautiful, but the sixteenth century would have built—
Built a cottage that would have been beautiful all the way round? No, it wouldn't. As I have said, you've never understood the eighteenth century, Edward, and your misunderstanding is quite natural; a century of feminine intrigue, subtle women devoted to the arts and to the delightful abbes, who visited artists in their studios, drawing attention to the points of their female models. In the sixteenth century Roman priests no longer spoke of their sons as their nephews, and went into the church laughing at the Mass they were going to celebrate. A sixteenth-century Cardinal would have been highly amused at the thought of condemning a beautiful play because the writer spoke of the Almighty smiling as He condemned the lost. He would have said, But if the line is beautiful? and taking Logue by the arm, he would have told him that religion is interesting until we are twenty. After that it becomes a means to an end, and the mission of every Cardinal should be to find a mistress who would respect his nerves, and to collect some passable pictures. My dear friends, how you have duped me! Do you remember what you told me about the Celtic Renaissance? Poets and painters burgeoning on every bush.
I laid a hand on Edward's shoulder and another on Yeats's, and looked into their faces. Now, Edward—Well, all I can say is, the Irish people liked my play, and it wouldn't have been listened to in London ... any more than Ibsen is.
And what about Yeats?
His would have been listened to if he had not put things into it which shocked people's feelings. I know there are many calling themselves Christians who are only Christians in name, but it is very hurtful for those who really believe to have to listen to lines.... And Edward stopped, fearing to wound Yeats's feelings.
He bade us goodbye soon after. Perhaps he is going to Vespers, I said. A good fellow—an excellent one, and a man who would have written well if his mother hadn't put it into his head that he had a soul. The soul is a veritable pitfall. I'm afraid, Yeats, you'll find it difficult to persuade him to buy the theatre for you. He would live in terror lest you should let him in for some heresy.

2023.03.06 13:45 boutell New US CCS chargers report for February 2023

Here are all of the new US CCS (Level 3 fast-charging) stations that rolled out in February 2023, according to the Department of Energy. These chargers are suitable for most new EVs on the market, except for:
  1. Tesla drivers who haven't bought the official CCS adapter yet. Certain older Teslas need additional work done to accept the adapter.
  2. Leaf owners like me, and some owners of older cars that also use CHAdeMO. If you drive a Leaf, or an older CHAdeMO car, see my matching post in leaf.
There were 194 CCS charge points added in January 2023. That shows continued growth month after month. For comparison, there were only 87 new CCS charge points in February 2022.
If you'd like to know about new chargers along your routes right away, or just prefer not to check this list monthly when new openings are rare in your area, I've set up a free service that provides email notifications as soon as they open. You can sign up at evpov.com. Or not! I don't really have a business plan here, I built it to help EV owners like myself.
