2023.05.29 04:58 judethedude2106 Going into year 2 of foundation degree in Software Development, any tips on how I should approach my options? I’ve tried to include as much info as possible
Looking for some pointers as I go into year 2 of software dev. Foundation degree. Any advice is appreciated
So I’m currently going into my second and final year of my foundation degree in software development, the units I have completed so far are:
-Programming 1: Practical Java basics in Eclipse.
-Programming 2: Learning OOP through Java, also using Eclipse.
-System Analysis and Design: Creating analysis reports on potential systems and designing software systems on paper with UML diagrams and data flow diagrams etc.
-Database Systems: Creating and manipulating SQL databases and understanding ERDs.
-Software Testing: Learning types of testing, how to test a program and record with a test log, how to use tools such as Selenium and CassiniDev with Java.
-Maths for Programming: Calculus, number systems etc.
My second year begins in September and the following points are the units I will be completing and what I know about them so far:
-Programming 3: Will be using Visual Studio to create a working program with C# with a SQL database connected to it (my teacher is saying it is technically full stack development which is good for interviews)
-Computer and Network Architecture: Not sure on the specifics of this unit.
-Web Technologies: I know this involves creating a website and I’m somewhat familiar with HTML and CSS, but yet to familiarise myself with JavaScript.
-Data Science: not sure on the specifics of this unit either.
-Work Based Learning: 5 month long placements in a local IT company. In placement 4 days a week (I don’t know what company it is yet.)
As you might be able to tell I’m still relatively new to this industry, but I’m still very passionate about it. I’ve always been into computers and regret not getting into things like programming earlier in life, but i am sure I have found the area of work I want to spend my life doing.
I’m posting to ask for advice on my options so I have a solid year in order to decide what I want I want to do. I don’t know many people in the industry so I think here would be a good place to get some pointers. To add some content I’m 19 and live in Northern Ireland, there is an abundance of reputable IT companies meaning I am likely to get placed in a good company. I particularly like what I’ve been doing in Java and SQL, expecting to enjoy C# too. I haven’t been achieving top grades, but I am getting high enough to get accepted into the best Uni in NI. My current options as I see things:
-University in NI: Unsure of which degree specifically but am leaning towards Computer Science, university here is significantly cheaper than mainland UK but my foundation degree will only allow me to pass into second year. Also unsure of whether to pursue a Masters Degree, but I’m leaning against it.
University in Great Britain: More expensive than NI but will be more likely to pass directly into third year.
Job After Placement: I am told that most students are offered full time jobs at the end of their placement at £30k, and sometimes offer apprenticeships where they will pay for me to complete my degree while I work for them. I will be locked down in this company for a few years though and I’ve been wanting to leave my city ASAP, but by no means does this mean I’m ruling this option out due to my desire to leave.
Find an Apprenticeship Elsewhere in UK: I’m not sure how plausible this is and feel it may be risky, but if possible I think I would pick this one, I would either move to the capital Belfast or go to the mainland. Potentially I could go international but I feel this would be extremely unrealistic.
Open University: I need to further look into this option, but it also sounds good, it is meant to be a 2 year, more affordable degree completed from home, but I lack complete understanding at the moment.
Wild Card, Find Work/Apprenticeship in Australia: I have family in Australia eager for me to visit them for awhile, they are very well of and this would give me time to get on my feet while out there. I would need to learn a lot more about the IT landscape out there before even considering this. I also would have to work out if it would even be possible immigration wise. This one is more of a dream but would do it if it was possible.
Thanks for reading this far, correct me if I’m incorrect about anything, any advice helps!

Did anyone here apply for PR directly through point system?
I need to "prove" years of experience, from my company in Japan it should be relatively straight forward, but I'm trying to understand how to "prove" it for the companies I worked for back home.
I found some things online, but it's all very vague, I can't find an official document and/or requirements.

2023.05.29 04:58 dxp857 From the department of Predictions That Aged Poorly:
2023.05.29 04:57 ImperatorPC Isonzo not using default speaker - other games not affected
So, having a recent issue with Isonzo (if you haven't played it, it has a native Linux client and is a ton of fun). I'm on arch, running pipewire-pulse. All other streams come through the correct default speaker (headset). I can see the streams in pavu control and with wpctl status in the terminal. However, the game plays audio directly from the motherboard audio output to my desktop speakers. There is no stream in pavu control nor in wpctl status. The game doesn't have the ability, that I can see, to select the speaker output.
This wasn't happening Friday, not sure if there was a game update that broke it or something else. It only seems to be this game. I've launched a couple others and they use the default speakers correctly.
Any ideas?

So to start things off very few people know I’m gay I came out to my best friend and a 2 girls at my school I’m really private about my sexuality and whenever I’m questioned about it I usually just laugh it off and change the subject I overheard my dad and my older brother talking about something sports related in my room they were talking about someone’s son in the sports world or something and kept calling him the f slur and calling him a fruit hen I heard this I felt as if they were saying this directly to me but then he said there’s nothing wrong with being gay I guess but he’s a total f slur and said god was punishing the father of the son or something is there anything I could do to ask if they support the lgbtq community?

2023.05.29 04:56 Toronto-Will Seven Chances - How does the racism go unmentioned?
Sorry if this has been discussed, I’m not a regular on the sub. I’m confused trying to reconcile my experience with Seven Chances with the way most people talk about it (e.g. on Letterboxd) and the way it’s talked about in the Blank Check episode, that I listened to today.
There’s a scene in Seven Chances, as part of the montage of failed proposals after Buster strikes out with the initial list of 7, where Keaton approaches a Black woman from behind, and then recoils in disgust once he gets close enough to see that she’s Black. It’s played as a joke that of course he doesn’t want to marry a black woman. Intellectually, I know this is the reality of the time (interracial marriage was illegal in California and would remain so for another 20 years), but emotionally, it rattled me. And then on top of that we have a house hand in black face in a recurring role, bumbling around and waddling with his feet pointed outward, like it’s a minstrel show. Is there a different version of the movie where this stuff is edited out? Or are other people just able to shrug this off way more easily than I am?
Griffin and David remarked on the racism in The Navigator, even though I thought that was comparatively tame (more directed at the fiction of an “island of cannibals” then at Black people). Not only does it go unmentioned in the Seven Chances episode, but instead there is an extended discussion of how Keaton is a pretty decent guy, without the skeletons in his closet of other stars of the day.

2023.05.29 04:56 unmilkedcows 2015 Civic EX ~100k miles, $15k, or 2017 Prius Three Touring, ~143k miles, $15k?
Hello all.
I'm kind of being forced to upgrade from my 2012 Civic EX with 180k miles, and I've loved it. It's my first car so maybe it's got a shit ton of sentimental value to a point where I'm torn on what to do.
I can't keep it, and I'll be honest, I'm lucky and have very kind parents who are paying for the car. I'm spoiled, I know, and I already feel guilty.
I need a replacement because my brother needs my car, and to find a car for for his needs in their market, it's gonna take months longer than it would for me. So the solution was to upgrade me, as my car was really bought for getting from point A to point B—but I love it.
So, I'm torn on what to do between a 2017 Prius Three Touring, 143k miles, or just get a better Civic that's similar to mine, the 2015 EX, with ~40k less miles, or more given how there's more on the market compared to Priuses.
Here's where it gets dicey. We already put a $400 deposit on the Prius, but the purchase is not finalized and I believe it could be refundable due to some circumstances I won't be listing here.
TLDR: I want a Civic or a Prius, not a fan of Corollas. I could get a 2015 Civic EX, simply a newer version of what I have, for 16k and much less miles than this Prius. I don't drive a ton, commuting to college three times a week (50 miles a day) and since I'm working at the moment, ~60 miles a day. I won't be putting more than 5k miles a year, probably only 4k at most actually. We made a deposit on a 2017 Prius Three Touring, yet now I'm unsure if that was the right decision and if instead I should've looked into the Civic EX. I want opinions now before it's too late. 2015 Civic EX with <100k miles, or 2017 Prius with 143k?
Thanks in advance.

2023.05.29 04:54 Think_Difference5078 Giving hashiras stands.- rengoku
Rengokus stand name is burn out reference to the greenway song of the same name .
Ability’s- passionate flame-the stand can convert the user’s heart rate emotion and passion into raw strength and power used to amplify the stand’s strength/speed e.g. this power can also be used to create fire and mass amounts of heat that the stand/user can control. A joyous heart-the stand will being to attach itself to rengokus back pumping his blood with pure liquid heat making rengokue extremely hot to the touch and increasing his speed extremely. His body will become hot enough that it will start melting/evaporating his surroundings. He will begin to get effected by the heat after semi long use (10-15 minutes). RENGOKU!- turns the surrounding of the stand into a blazing inferno that rengoku can control mildly (this room is similar to a domain expansion) in this space rengoku can cause blasts of fire and heat to come from any direction and travel through out the inferno with extreme speed. Set your heart ablaze- the stand becomes a suit stand completely covering rengoku in flames and manifest its power as a katana that rengoku can use in this form all states or buffed significantly and both stand and user gain the ability’s of turning themselves into fire for a limited amount of time and seeing two seconds ahead into the future (Note this form is not meant for long term uses as it will slowly start to fade into its normal form after ten minutes starting from the stomach)

2023.05.29 04:54 remarkableowlarya Morning Market Updates - May 29, 2023
Morning Market Updates - May 29, 2023
Good morning, fellow Redditors,
I hope you're all having a great start to your day. Today is Monday, the first day of the week, and let's dive into the latest updates from the morning market session.
Let's begin by analyzing the performance of the American market:
- The Dow Jones Industrial Average put an end to its five-day decline, while the Nasdaq Composite Index and S&P 500 closed at their highest levels since August 2022. The S&P 500 was above the 4,200 mark.
- The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 1.00% to reach 33,093.34.
- The Nasdaq rose by 2.19% to close at 12,975.69 points, while the S&P 500 gained 1.30% to settle at 4,205.45 points.
After a prolonged period of uncertainty and tightening of the American debt ceiling, there was a surge in chip shares driven by optimism surrounding artificial intelligence.
According to Reuters, after extensive discussions, US President Joe Biden and top congressional Republican Kevin McCarthy appeared close to a deal to extend the government's $31.4 trillion debt ceiling for two years while limiting spending on most items.
Inflation remains a concern, and high-interest rates continue to impact the market until the Federal Reserve takes a clear stance.
Overall, the American market closed on a positive note on Friday, and Dow Futures are also showing positive momentum in the morning.
Now, let's take a look at how the Asian markets are opening:
The positivity seen in the American market is also reflected in the Asian markets this morning, bringing an end to the prolonged uncertainty.
- The Nikkei in Japan is trading more than 1% higher, showing a rapid surge of 400 points.
- Hong Kong's Hang Seng index is up by 80 points, Taiwan by 145 points, and the South Korean Kospi index is trading flat.
- SGX Nifty is showing significant momentum with an increase of approximately 170 points, currently trading above 18,700.
Now, let's examine today's market setup:
The Indian markets had already shown signs of the upcoming bullish trend from the American market on Friday. The Nifty increased by 178 points to close at 18,499.
Buying activity was witnessed in FMCG, IT, metal, and pharma sectors, which previously faced confusion due to the changing trends in the American markets.
The market successfully crossed the strong resistance level at 18,350, which will now act as a support level for the Nifty.
According to technical charts, the support levels for the day are 18,350, 18,300, and 18,200, while resistance levels are seen at 18,525, 18,600, and 18,650.
Now let's analyze the option chain data:
In the weekly option data, the highest call open interest (OI) for the Nifty was observed at the 19,000 strike, with 67.16 lakh contracts. This level will play a crucial resistance role for the Nifty.
Following that, the 18,700 strike had 64.78 lakh contracts, and the 18,500 strike had 59.71 lakh contracts.
Significant call writing was observed at the 18,700 strike, with an addition of 33.87 lakh contracts. This was followed by additions of 29.71 lakh contracts at the 18,800 strike and 29.35 lakh contracts at the 19,000 strike, indicating potential resistance levels for the Nifty.
Regarding put open interest, the highest OI was observed at the 18,300

2023.05.29 04:54 judethedude2106 Going into year 2 of Software Development Foundation Degree, have a particular liking for OOP and SQL, any tips, info or pointers on where to go from there?

Hydrogenation catalyst is a type of catalyst that is to treat with hydrogen – is a chemical reaction between molecular hydrogen (H2) and another compound or element, usually in the presence of a catalyst such as nickel, palladium or platinum. The process is commonly employed to reduce or saturate organic compounds. Hydrogenation typically constitutes the addition of pairs of hydrogen atoms to a molecule, often an alkene. Catalysts are required for the reaction to be usable; non-catalytic hydrogenation takes place only at very high temperatures. Hydrogenation reduces double and triple bonds in hydrocarbons.
