"If you're not careful and you noclip out of reality in the wrong areas, you'll end up in the Backrooms, where it's nothing but the stink of old moist carpet, the madness of mono-yellow, the endless background noise of fluorescent lights at maximum hum-buzz, and approximately six hundred million square miles of randomly segmented empty rooms to be trapped in. God save you if you hear something wandering around nearby, because it sure as hell has heard you" THIS IS A FICTIONAL CONCEPT
2019.05.30 00:13 LitheBeep True Backrooms: You are alone.
Backrooms: disquieting, empty, monotonous rooms that somehow feel familiar and nostalgic. Sort of like cursed images, but with a focus on rooms. This is a subreddit for discussion of the Backrooms and the feelings it evokes, rather than role-playing and building lore.

2023.05.27 01:15 fuhtuhwuh [FO4][PC][HELP]Dropping/Storing any weapons causes them to re-add/duplicate. Cannot figure what mod(s) are causing it.
[SOLVED] It was a mod called "Psyker Powers 2.0". I don't know if this was due to some sort of interaction/conflict with another, all I know is that after hours of trial and error - disabling this fixed this issue immediately.
I've posted on the fo4 mods sub but no luck so far, hoping maybe one of you might be able to help.
I've spent last hour disabling loads of sets of mods (I can't disable all of them, instant CTD when opening F4) and loading and still the same bug. Dropping a gun, drops it, and then instantly readds another copy of it (sometimes a variation of the gun). Even removing the items via console commands doesn't remove them. It's ONLY weapons/throwables in the weapons tab that do this, every other tab works as normal.
I'm hoping someone recognizes the bug and saves me so much more troubleshooting... (THANK YOU)
Here's my mods (there's a lot..):

2023.05.25 05:04 MrLumic No man's sky - rust combo backrooms game
Imo a backrooms game should have an extensive survival aspect to it as well as pve with the monsters on certain levels. I also think the game should be over although finding other players would be rare
I mostly like the idea of a no man's sky like backrooms game having hundreds - thousands of levels big and small to explore and survive in
If allowed then the first 4 levels should stay the same because they're iconic but after that is up to the creators
Also, proximity chat is epic

2023.05.24 16:43 DrVoid7 Void's Log - Entry #1
NOTE: The following is a transcript of the vlog created by an inhabitant of the Backrooms known as Void. The quoted parts are audio-only parts of the vlog.
BEGINNING OF RECORDED MESSAGE ------------
Where am I?
Wait... I feel like I've seen this place before... but... that's impossible!
Hold on, is this real?
Oh. My. GOD!
I'm in the Backrooms!
Hello there, people of the Backrooms, and welcome to my Backrooms Log! My name is
-krrrzzzkrrrzzz-, but you can call me Void.
I am currently recording this log on my laptop computer that I have connected to the "intranet". I am really happy (and puzzled) there is some form of wi-fi here.
Aaaaaanyway, let's get cracking!
Who are you? I imagine you're asking.
Well, I am Void, and I'm a scientist. I love science-fiction and my favourite dessert is apple pie.
I no-clipped to the Backrooms as I was walking down the street where I live. I tripped, fell, and didn't hit the ground. In fact, I fell
through it. Through into the Backrooms, in a room with yellowed wallpaper, a damp carpet, and some really annoying fluorescent lighting. After looking around with an ambarrassingly bewildered look on my face, I looked at my watch, but instead of the time, it said
"Level 0".
I had heard of the Backrooms before. I'd seen hints of it on the internet, but I always thought it was some sort of online joke to scare people. Apparently, this is not the case. Unless I'm dreaming. Am I dreaming?
\Void pinches himself** Ow. Nope. I'm probably not dreaming. Anyway. Back to my story.
At first, I was a little panicked, but after I recovered from the initial shock I began looking for at least another human being, if not an exit. I wandered around aimlessly for a couple of hours until I tripped (AGAIN?!?) and fell through a wall. I had no-clipped into another level!
I found myself in a large foggy warehouse with a concrete floor and walls. I checked my watch again. It said
"Level 1". That's when I started figuring some things out in my head.
As I continued my search, I stumbled upon a crate. Inside it I found a bottle with some liquid which smelled faintly of vanilla and rose water, a couple of batteries, and (to my utter disgust) a dead mouse.
I stuffed the bottle and batteries in my backpack, as they could come in handy, although I wasn't sure then if the liquid was drinkable.
As I was contemplating my next move, the lights started to blink on and off until suddenly I was plunged in darkness. A few of seconds passed by until, finally, the lights turned on again. The crate was gone.
I stood there, puzzled as to what had happened to the crate. I must admit, my reaction was a little... insane.
"It was there! The crate was there! The crate was right there and then it wasn't and this doesn't make any sense and what am I doing here anyway the Backrooms aren't real this is insane what do I do what do I do what do I do what do I-"
My crazy monologue was interrupted suddenly when I heard something in the distance. A voice. A human voice...
---
Welp, that's all I had time to recount today. Gotta go. You know. There's stuff to do.
Thanks for listening!
Void out.

2023.05.22 22:10 Rilenx_ Currently working on a backrooms map - looking for some opinions ^^
| Please dont judge me too early since this is my first post on this subreddit. Anyways, i've started working on a large project of mine which ive worked towards for almost a year now, trying out different variations, etc. The map in question is a backrooms map. Now i know, i know, the "hype" for most people died but not for me, been a fan of the backrooms and its expansion since the beginning. And now, since i finally started i just wanted to post a few screenshots here to get a good idea of what people think of the look/feel of the map. I should add that the map is not Vanilla, im using a few mods here and there to make my life a little bit easier, aswell as a texture pack for the level 0 wallpaper, level 1 floor, etc. Love y'all <3 Level 0 (A-Sync Threshold Location) Level 1 (Elevator Shaft) Level 1 (Main Area) Level 3 (Spawn Area) submitted by Rilenx_ to Minecraft [link] [comments] |

2023.05.22 03:17 Meloxian How to fix (almost) any store, a 100% achievement steam guide.
I got another job offer from office depot for a raise. Wanted to drop my thoughts on how to fix up/run a store, since I'm not really planning on coming back, maybe could help out a new SM or two. Worked with the company about 5 years. 3 as a key, 2 as an asm/sm, a lot of my time as an asm was spent under an decade + sml (they were trained by another store manager who's been here since 2000, and was a SML before the program even existed). Have fixed up 2 stores so far, was working on my 3rd.
All stores basically function the same, regardless of layout, size, volume etc. And all stores generally fix up the same. It's a numbers game. You're trying to put out more freight than what comes in. That's it. The bigger the surplus above what you recieve on your truck the quicker it gets fixed up (same with payroll). You get the freight out and everything else generally falls into place. Nothing else matters but that product going out. Period. This guide is mainly about Merchandising, but it'll cover the function of fixing up a store.
- When scouting a store to take over, the number one thing you're looking at is the average piece count to labor hour ratio. At least the last 8 weeks worth to get an accurate estimate. If you get 1200 pieces and 120 hours, that's a 10:1 piece/labor ratio. That means you'll need to process 10 cases for each labor hour, just to process your truck. Most stores generally run closer to a 6:1 ratio (standard). I wouldn't reccomend anything over 8:1 or 9:1 (1200 pieces on a 150 hour budget); it's hard difficulty and not really worth your time (This guide will allow you to process 10~).
- To figure out how long it'll take to clear the backroom (ie. Fix) you'll need to take whatever ratio your store is (let's say 6:1) and subtract it from 10:1 (optimal efficiency), 4; So you'll be able to stock 4 more pieces an hour or 66% more effectively with this guide. This will let you know how long it'll take to fix the store. Each RT is worth 60 pieces. So if you get in 900 pieces a week (at 6:1), you'll be able to stock a total of lets say 1,500 pieces a week, or 8 extra rolltainers (to be conservative). Divide the size of the backroom by the number of extra rolltainers to get how long it'll take. 50 rolltainers will take 7 weeks to process.
You also have to factor in O/S (inefficient ordering), which you can find by looking a your core pia number (if the pia is 80% that means it's 20% inaccurate, or 20% of your stock will be O/S each week, so 180 pieces of a 900 piece truck, or around 3 rolltainers). This will add extra time. 3 extra rolltainers week in 7 weeks is 21 rolltainers, @ a rate of 8 rolltainers, adds an extra 3 weeks of time.
Tldr; it'll take around 10 weeks to process 50 rolltainers (7 to process the backroom and 3 to process the O/S)
- Don't take a store for less than $50,000. Period. You're going to be working a shit ton of hours to get the fucker into shape. Don't underpay yourself, too. There is no (effective) pay cap. The dm can pay (mostly) whatever they want. The worse the houlabor ratio, the higher the salary. Some of those bad ones demand $60,000/$70,000 salaries (the ones that won't be ready for inventory, with 50 rolltainers on the floor). Don't take the first offer. It's a lowball.
- Get in the right state of mind. You are a professional, not "playing" manager. If you "play manager" you will fail. Your only goal is to do what needs to be done. Regardless of what that looks like. If you have to work 80 one week, then do it. If you have to fire your entire staff, fine. Do your duty. Period. Your employees aren't your friends. Your vendors aren't your friends. Your DM/RM aren't your friends. Corporate isn't your friend. Customers aren't your friends. Vendors arent your friends. Your only responsibility is to the store. Your job is very Transactional, and your goal is to get as much value for your store as possible. That doesn't mean you be this psychopathic fuck. That's an easy way to drive employees away. Be very equitable/nice to your employees and do your job.
- The first thing I always do when taking over a store:
A. Do a walk-through dressed as a "customer" and ask a few questions of the employees. Doing this at night is best, because you can see how the employees/store really is, not whatever bs show the dm/sm want to put on. This is the actual culture of the store. If they aren't doing shit when the sm isn't there they aren't trained and the whole staff will probably need replaced.
- On your first day Clean, Clean, Clean. Spend 10 hours. 12. 14. Work open to close/as long as it takes. This is your one real and only good chance to do so. If you don't do it now, you won't make the time later. Don't work in a shit hole; have standards. (Maintain it).
A. Register - Needs to be SPOTLESS. Not a single sku behind it. Perfectly sanitized. Toss EVERYTHING not bolted down to the fucking counters. All belongings need to go in a basket and your employees have 72 hours to get it or it goes bye-bye. Nothing else goes up there besides the st. Judes flyers at Christmas, the literacy candy and the now-hiring signs.
B. Office - Same way, STERILE. Organize your paperwork. Make sure the system is easy to understand (if your sales associate can understand it then it's fine). You only really need the vendor invoices. Most everything else can be reprinted.
C. Breakroom - Same. Nothing left overnight. Nothing damaged out for store use (except maybe ONE case of water). A table, a chair, a trashcan. That's it. No coffee machine. No fan. Nothing. Everything that goes in there is either shrink or costs time to maintain.
D. Hallway - NOTHING but a trashcan and all the caution signs. All that other bullshit (brooms, etc.) Need to go in the stockroom.
E. Post a cleaning list by the register (Dust mopping, go-backs, Trash, tp/paper-towels SWS and mopping the WHOLE STORE done nightly, the lot will need swept at least twice a week, I like Wed and Sun).
- Your first task is to hire. You'll have one good employee. One decent employee and a bunch of shitheads. Always. You'll need to be +1 on SA and +1 on LSA at minimum. Print off the tab bw flyers and highlight the important info. Go into rms and cold call every, and I mean every, candidate within a 20 mile radius. I once called 400 people. Took about 6 hours. Got 100 names, 20 interviews and 6 hires. If they dont pick up, immediatly hang up and move on. You can also post online on Facebook. Should take a week or two to get fully staffed.
- Have a face to face conversation with each employee when you get there. Treat it like an interview. You're trying to figure out if they fit in the store, still. The most important thing is to find out what they want to work/any restrictions and HONOR IT, no matter what. Make sure they agree to work the schedule when you talk to them.
- Scheduling is your second major task. The best thing you can offer a potential hire is the exact days and times they want to work (not necessarily the hours). It's hard to leave a situation when you feel like you're in control of your schedule, no matter the pay. This will drop turnover like a rock.
General scheduling throughout the week is opening MOD: Open-5, Closing MOD 1-Ch and Closing Cashier 5/6-Ch (4 hour shift).
ALL of your extra labor hours go to T+1 and T+2. Goal is to get truck processed on T+1 and OS ran on T+2.
There should (almost) NEVER be a situation in which you need to go over budget, in fact always schedule 5 hours under to prevent it (things happen during the week). Don't do it. The reason is because if you actually need to, your dm will be more understanding. The only times I would consider are during inventory prep or maybe if your store is so impacted customers cant shotp. That's about it. If you do go over budget, one time, use as much as you need. Literally. Take a write-up. But remember it's a one week thing. Tell your dm it won't happen again and move on.
Timesheets need approved every Saturday, first thing in the morning before you count the drawers.
After two weeks you should be fully staffed, now it's time to get to work.
- Start Tasks. There are only 6 that matter. Mon fresh, thu fresh, tue compliance, tue price labels, tue damages, Sat ad (and maybe the occasional recall). Everything else needs marked complete. They don't matter and are a waste of time and payroll. They can be done regularly when not impacted. (There's no use in putting a tpr label on an empty shelf slot).
(Make sure to mark price labels complete in resources when you print them on tue)
Ad - the ONLY ad stickers that go up are vendor items. Chips, soda and cakes etc. Everything else can be tossed. We're required to put these up. Everything else is a waste of payroll that you don't have when trying to fix up a store.
- The game - your goal is to attract as little attention as possible to your store. Any attention is bad attention. Having your dm praise you in the group text for finding Expirations does NOTHING for your store. None of the bullshit does. Don't speak on conference calls unless addressed. THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS IS THE STATE OF YOUR STORE. All the other bs is a distraction.
If it's not one of the 6 start tasks listed above, a notification about payroll not recieved, a recall. IT DOESNT MATTER. Your DM uses the conf. And the group chat to vent about what they do/don't like and whatever comes down the pipeline from corporate. Most of those things are superficial. They don't matter. Do your job. Make the store succeed. Make your boss money. That's it. Actions speak louder than words.
- Fresh - scans and damages done every Monday and damages every Thursday. Check for the fresh credits while you do your scans. Run the backstock first before anything. Pull everything set to expire by next fresh day. Be very through. When stocking fresh make sure to Rotate. Always. There's a fuck ton of fresh shrink if not done properly. Recover afterwords, everytime.
- Plan-o-grams - Supposed to be done every T+3. Freight is generally more of a priority. You can always catch up on POGs in a day or two. Freight takes months. It's more important.
- Cigarettes - Stock full cases only. Do on hands every T+4 or T+5 while running register. They're one of the things you have almost total control over.
Here's a section for stocking:
- Endcaps - I prefer a more flex style of endcap. It's extremely difficult to keep up with mag endcaps, I prefer organized overflow, because it keeps the products on the endcaps selling. Empty space does not sell. Endcaps sell 30% more. You don't get the mag in properly, on time, most times, anyway. And most impacted stores have that stuff buried in the backroom. Make sure you update pricing at least once a month or two, would be good to do with tue compliance. Scan all the items on an endcap and stick the labels out. Takes about 10 minutes each, maybe less. I got all mine done in two hours.
- Mag - Monthly activity guide. Comes in the mag books. Figure out store layout and the week. It's color coded by week. Each week is a different color. The g-sections will usually change once every two months or so. Set them immediately on T+3, as early as you can.
- G-sections - each section has a number (find it in your store layout, your dm can get a copy). It's coordinated to the mag book. Find the week/color and match it to your layout. Ex: g-17 is green for week 12. That means it changes week 12. Each section is labeled in the mag book, let's say it's Lawn decor.
The mag book will have sections labeled gondolas (g-sections). Find the picture, that's the section. It'll have the shelves/a picture of what it's supposed to look like. Set the shelves like the picture and put the product in the correct section.
You can pull this up on the computer in resources.
Use your best judgment. Sometimes you'll be missing g-sections. You'll have to combine them. If you're missing shelves take them from skyshelves. It's almost impossible to get them.
- Expirations - Hostess, Baby food are the two most important, check every Tuesday. OTC and Que line need checked every other month (will take up a Tuesday each).
- Vendors - They work for you, are not your friends. They need to check for Expirations and credits before anything. Check their work. They miss anything you contact your dm. Your dm will contact their boss. They need to do their job.
Ice - watch like a hawk. Verify every single bag going in to the actual machine. Count it. Make sure they present in front of the camera. Massive shrink.
- Tier table - every month or so there's a tier table theme. The boxes usually come in all at once. Once the theme has ended merge the tier table in nci and refill.
- Skyshelves - downstocking is hard to keep up with. All small items go into green bag boxes. There's really no need for an hba cart. No full cases/brown boxes. I've been expiramenting with keeping the new pog sets on top the sections, as they're basically large u-boats.
- Displays/Floorstands - stock to home location or bag box. They take up space. The company gets them because they're cheaper than buying the individual product.
- Accessories - unbox, dump in Totes and put in the stockroom. They are nothing but shrink, take too long to stock. Waste of your time. Don't really sell.
- Respond - you need to frame any ticket in terms of dollars the company will lose, in order to get anything done. Nothing else works.
- Recovery - Front of store needs done every night by a cashier. You break the front into two or three sections. They get half done one night and half done the next. Core needs done 100% every week (pet, Chem, food etc.) NCI/Toys etc. Get done once a month. Recovery costs a lot of payroll. Most of the times the lost sales are due to products oos, not Recovery, anyway. What's $500 in Recovery, compared to stocking a $1-1.5k RT?
- Fixtures/HBA Cart/Sidewings - Send back anything that's empty or not in use on rolltainers. Carts can be sent back.
- Items never to loan - shelves, HHT, Shelf extenders. You will not get them back.
- Clearance sales - are the only major sales you really need to focus on. They are the only time you will offload product. Push them very hard. The company doesn't do nearly enough of them.
- Discontinued - price immediately and put in clearance or plug the holes in core.
- Store Use - don't use the store use function on the hht. There's a list of approved items, but they aren't the best quality. It's better to damage out high quality products (having standards/running a quality store) on tuesday. You end up on reports anyway for unauthorized store use. Not worth it.
- Os needs ran once a week to maintain it, and twice a week to decrease the levels. While getting the store in shape run it every T+5, when in shape run T+4 and T+6 to get it down to nothing. They send a lot because it sells.
- Tons - I always struggled to find enough time to do a full Tons scan weekly. But it's very important to do. It increases product accuracy, so your truck is smaller. You have less freight to stock. I'd say probably get the store fixed up and then do a full Tons scan.
How to stock effectively
- Sort your product as you stock it.
The door is gravity. It sounds like a weird metaphor, but if you look at your store layout, think of the door as the very bottom/bottom level. The freight needs to flow toward it, ie. Back to front. Always sort off front freight as you're stocking, into a cart, and take it to a rolltainer up front. This should happen constantly throughout the week, like an assembly line. Whoever is on register should stock ONLY front and sort to the back; whoever is in back should stock only BACK and sort to the front. There is no more efficient Method than this. All Mag items - mag, nci os and vv os should go on a mag rt. Label it mag. It stays in the back. It may end up getting ran once before inventory.
No piece of core ever goes back through the recieving room. Period.
If you get through all the back of store freight, you can double up on front of store freight. The reverse is not true. I cannot stress how critical this is.
THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO DO. IF YOU SORT PROPERLY, YOU WILL EVENTUALLY, BE IT ONE MONTH OR SIX MONTHS, RUN OUT OF BACK FREIGHT (BEING LEFT WITH ONLY MAG, OS AND FRONT FREIGHT) AND WILL BEGIN TO DOUBLE UP ON FRONT. THE REST OF YOUR CORE WILL FLY OUT. IT TAKES TWICE AS LONG TO GET THROUGH THE BACK FREIGHT AS THE FRONT FREIGHT.
- The Plan
Nothing but freight. A little bit of basic recovery. If it isnt one of those start tasks mentioned above or the basic recovery, it's 24/7 freight until the store is caught up and can run 7dwf properly (at that point the store is considered "fixed". The product needs to go out onto the floor. Onto the shelf. It cannot sit in the backroom. If you don't sell a case for 8 weeks the system resets the number to 0 and sends you another case. It has to sell. If you get that backroom clear, it takes a week to get the rest of the store fixed up. That's it.
7dwf has nothing on it regarding old rolltainers, because it assumes everything goes out every week. It is not effective at fixing impacted stores. It is only effective at maintaining them.
- Truck process -
Back U-Boats (Sort), Back Totes (Sort) on T.
Should be 1/3rd of the Totes (2 hours) and 4-6 U-Boats of mostly paper (3 hours). Don't do Recovery T day, get the truck processed.
Front freight and front Totes should be ran on register throughout the week. You can ignore those.
Rolltainers:
Whatever sections are closest to the register are considered front freight. These are usually food and hba. You can ignore these rolltainers. These are usually 1/3rd of what you get in.
Run the easy rolltainers first, to save space. Soil, charcoal, Paper, Totes (unload on the u-boats), pet etc. (One time I got all 6 of these done before my truck finished unloading of like 16 I got in. It was very impacted, so I needed the space. They take 15 minutes and too much space. You can get them done by 10 am on T+1.
You should be left with maybe 1/3rd of your truck left. You've ignored the front rolltainers to stock through the week and have done the easy ones. All that's left is chemicals, nci and seasonal. NCI/Seasonal are considered mag and can be skipped for T+3. Run the chemicals and your truck is technically "done", usually by 5pm on T+1
T+2
Run back of store core rolltainers, get through as many as possible for the week. SORT THE DAMN THINGS, SERIOUSLY. It works like an assembly line. With proper scheduling you should have you and an extra Stocker 10-16 free hours to run old rolltainers. Run them. Knock out as much as you can.
T+3
Come back to your mag rolltainers from the truck. Process them. Get a pog if you have time.
The front freight flows throughout the week. You never actually have to double up on it, but can as needed.
Seriously, I got so efficient at doing this, I ended up getting literally everything done by EOD T+2. I'd get my whole truck processed on T+1 and DS/Pogs done on T+2. The rest of the week I only had to be there when it was single coverage and it was constant recovery off register. I worked maybe 4 hours on T, 16 on T + 1/2 and whatever single coverage I had throughout the rest of the week. There were weeks where I took off whole T 1/2 days because I didn't need to be there. There were some weeks where I worked 20 hours or less because we had everything processed efficiently and there was literally nothing to do, except like check the que line. I can remember being so damn bored on register. Lmao.
That's when I figured it was time to switch stores.
But that's the goal. You work 80 to get the store in shape so you only have to work 40-48 or less. The only time you really have to work is around inventory and a bit extra for Christmas.
They switched to suggested schedules, unfortunately. I ended up switching to more of a 7dwf process.
Lastly
Remember, your goal is to make sure the store functions as effectively as possible. Do your job. Make the company as much money as possible. Go home at the end of the day.
Hopefully this guide helps some of you out there just starting out. Maybe it'll improve a store or two.
Edit - Will drop more information as I think about it.

2023.05.21 23:14 varinator "Addressing the Misinformation Surrounding Regulation SHO / alleged Illegal Naked Shorting: Facts vs. fairy tales"
| Hey GATERS 🐊, So, this post blew my monocle out of my eye socket: "Illegal Naked Shorting is Happening in Front of Our Eyes - I Got Banned From Stocktwits For Showing The Truth - They NEED YOUR SHARES!" Pretty intense, right? https://www.reddit.com/ATERstock/comments/13n4kho/illegal_naked_shorting_is_happening_in_front_of/ This post is a veritable rollercoaster of claims about Regulation SHO, naked short selling, and our good friends, the market makers. While the author's burning passion could rival the heat of a thousand suns, it's riddled with some misunderstandings about the inner gears and cogs of our beloved stock market. And we all know that misinformation can sow confusion, or worse, fear among investors, especially those still getting their feet wet. So, I thought it was high time we got down to brass tacks and do a little detective work. Trust me, I'm not here to throw the author under the bus, but to clear the swamp of misconceptions and keep our GATER pool crystal clear from misleading info. Let's put on our thinking caps and debunk these wild claims The main claim: "The flat bar all day was because we got put on the Reg SHO, which is a rule to help stop ILLEGAL NAKED SHORTING." The author’s view of Reg SHO is about as clear as mud. Let’s get some things straight. Reg SHO isn’t just a single rule, it's a family of rules established by the SEC aimed at preventing abusive short selling and enhancing overall market transparency. It’s not just about curbing illegal naked shorting. Think of it more like a guard dog rather than a silver bullet against illegal activities.Saying that a 'flat bar' on the stock chart is a direct offspring of Reg SHO is oversimplifying things like calling an alligator just a big lizard. Stock prices bob and weave based on a multitude of factors: supply and demand dynamics, market sentiment, economic indicators, you name it. Reg SHO can't puppeteer stock prices into a 'flat bar.' The author seems to jumble Rule 201 (the "short sale circuit breaker") and Rule 203 under Reg SHO. Rule 201 kicks in when a stock's price plummets by 10% or more from the previous day's closing price, irrespective of why the price fell. It's a safety net to halt a stock's price from tumbling due to aggressive short selling. Crucially, Rule 201 triggering is a routine event and doesn't suggest illegal naked shorting. And then we have the author's "confirmation" that ATER made it to the mysterious "Circuit Breaker List" - which he claims validates his thesis. Well...Let's glance at the "Circuit Breaker Lists" from previous days, which conveniently was ignored: CURRENT: https://www.nasdaqtrader.com/dynamic/symdishorthalts/shorthalts20230519.txt https://preview.redd.it/q9073fmy191b1.png?width=467&format=png&auto=webp&s=88cf32b3c03c2c6d2cde574dbd180b2abb07e7be 18th - https://www.nasdaqtrader.com/dynamic/symdishorthalts/shorthalts20230518.txt https://preview.redd.it/v66udh77291b1.png?width=472&format=png&auto=webp&s=f2ba726a141717ffd15d5c95a276cf4ba58cf3f0 17th - https://www.nasdaqtrader.com/dynamic/symdishorthalts/shorthalts20230517.txt https://preview.redd.it/v5v4bkx9291b1.png?width=453&format=png&auto=webp&s=1ff643e9eb4d68adb30920e34c6b8971cf4a5ce8 15th - https://www.nasdaqtrader.com/dynamic/symdishorthalts/shorthalts20230515.txt https://preview.redd.it/w6svemdd291b1.png?width=441&format=png&auto=webp&s=1feb1d2d5d049154d11e37d8cc3996b028fa729d 11th - https://www.nasdaqtrader.com/dynamic/symdishorthalts/shorthalts20230511.txt https://preview.redd.it/na6m89qf291b1.png?width=460&format=png&auto=webp&s=1480f553dedc5da62a4a550636ed5938b08a82e1 10th - https://www.nasdaqtrader.com/dynamic/symdishorthalts/shorthalts20230510.txt https://preview.redd.it/4hegpduh291b1.png?width=462&format=png&auto=webp&s=8e0fb45caa1131b1627b9ff451980c0b16979348 ATER made a guest appearance on the Short Sell Circuit Breaker list numerous times in recent days. So, claiming that making the list is an indication of illegal activity is like saying an alligator with a full belly is proof of a crime scene. This circuit breaker trips every time a stock falls 10% for any reason - which seems to be a hobby for ATER lately. - "The Reg SHO rule 'stops short selling on a security when prices have decreased by 10% or more during the trading day, mandating that new bids be above the current price.' - Meaning they literally couldn't push the price below $0.56." Let's reel this one in, shall we? The author appears to have tangled up the Alternative Uptick Rule (Rule 201) in his net. It gets triggered when a stock price falls 10% or more from the previous day's closing price. It doesn't mean the price can't sink lower than $0.56 or whatever magic number we're tossing around. It means short selling is only allowed if the price is above the current national best bid.
- "Over 75% of shares went through the dark pools today to stop buy orders hitting the lit exchange and keep it shorted down to the maximum possible levels..." This isn't necessarily the case. Dark pools were made to facilitate trading large amounts of securities without moving the market price too much. Saying that 75% of shares going through dark pools is proof of illegal or unethical activity is like blaming every fish that goes into a gator's mouth on gator conspiracy.
- "I don't want to come off as a conspiracy nut, but this thing runs deeper than any of us know..." Sounds like we're diving into a swamp conspiracy, doesn't it? Market manipulation happens, we all know that. But insinuating a broad conspiracy without tangible proof is like claiming the Loch Ness Monster is hiding in your backyard pool.
- "They didn't want any of the buys going onto the lit exchange, they wanted to keep it shorted to the max level possible to scare you into selling your shares cheap and cover their asses..." Here the author's casting some shadowy figures with sinister intentions, without any actual evidence. Market prices can and do fluctuate due to a bunch of legitimate factors, not just the schemes of cloaked figures in a backroom.
- "That chart on Friday is NOT NORMAL..." Ah, the subjective nature of 'normal.' It's worth noting that price charts are simply the footprints of the market participants' buying and selling decisions. Stamping a chart as 'not normal' is like declaring a particularly wavy swamp as a sign of impending alligator uprising.
- The 'Short Sale Circuit Breaker' is presented as the smoking gun for illegal naked short selling. However, the reality is a tad more complicated. This rule can be triggered by a significant price drop for a myriad of reasons, not just due to illegal naked short selling.
- "If the large price drop is NOT primarily caused by short sellers, the circuit breaker will NOT dampen further price declines" - That is basically imo proof that the drop and flatline was caused by naked short sellers..." This, my friends, is a wild leap in logic. The circuit breaker triggering only indicates that the stock's price fell 10% or more, prompting short sale restrictions. It's not an immediate stamp of guilt on the forehead of illegal short sellers.
So, there you have it, It's always good to remind ourselves that the stock market isn't some mysterious creature lurking in the depths. It's a dynamic and complex ecosystem, just like our beloved swamps, that we navigate with knowledge, common sense, and an eye for detail. Let's keep our waters clean from misconceptions and misinformation and keep on doing what we do best. It's already apocalyptical for most of us in this ticker for 2 years+, no need to hype any positive nor negative magical scenarios, pulled out of bumholes. Facts please.🐊 submitted by varinator to ATERstock [link] [comments] |
2023.05.21 14:17 abraaocorreavieira Another photo of level 341, information about this level in the comments.
2023.05.20 19:43 DemyxDancer It was your birthday yesterday, and it's going to be your birthday tomorrow, too.
(Another attempt at Backrooms-inspired psychological horror, this time an endless children's party. Thanks for all the support for my Poolrooms post.)
Today is your birthday.
Close enough, anyway. There's no way to keep accurate time here, if time even has meaning, so instead you've been counting the days according to when you sleep. It's not like there's anyone else here to care about when you decide to celebrate your birthday, or anything at all. That's a kind of freedom, the only real kind of freedom you have.
The world itself certainly doesn't seem to mind if you want to celebrate a birthday. You've been locked in this infinite expanse of what seems to be procedurally generated party rooms, play places, and arcades for nearly a year. All the childhood recreation you could possibly desire and absolutely nothing else.
You stretch and emerge from your bed, a kind of nest you make from bits of clothing and plush toys you've scavenged. You've spent the last couple of days in a larger room with a foreboding-looking play structure, grimy ball pit underneath cracked plastic slides. It smells like plastic, but the 80s pop hits that echo through the speakers are muffled here, and the attached party room has pepperoni pizza in it every time you look.
You're so, so sick of pepperoni pizza. Endless junk food doesn't seem to deteriorate your health at all, but you almost wish it would.
It's your birthday, so it'd be a good day to explore, especially since you haven't explored in a few days. It'd be nice to find something to eat other than pizza and cake, if you can, and odds are good that you could find some presents to open.
Opening presents is one of the few activities you still find entertaining. Most of the time, you get bizarre children's presents generated by a poorly trained AI: boxes filled with random baby doll parts, melted and fused action figures, T-shirts with six sleeves and no neck hole, board games with hundreds of pieces and gibberish instructions. But it's also not uncommon to find more useful things -- the plush toys that make up your bedding, an intact craft kit to provide a mild diversion. Books are fun, sometimes, reading a robot's halfhearted attempts at YA literature. But the most precious of all are the art supplies. Blank paper, pens, and markers are like gold, drawing and writing the only hobbies that give you some solace in the face of the aggressively cheerful void.
You pack up your bedding and your backpacks full of supplies, placing them in a red wagon that was a lucky find months ago. It was around the time when your focus had shifted from finding an exit to long-term survival. No need to prioritize speed when there isn't any life here, neither hostile creatures nor fellow wanderers. Your hopes had been dashed by the false promise of an exit one too many times, and your sanity had become dangerously close to cracking on several occasions. Some level of acceptance was the only way to keep yourself going.
And so, you pull your wagon through play room after play room, past murals of clowns and rainbows and warped-looking Disney characters, past darkened skeeball machines that stretch on into the distance, past DDR machines that play the same ten-second snip of music over and over for eternity. You stop briefly at an arcade ticket redemption counter, hoping to find something of use, but every bin is full of plastic spiders and Ring Pops.
You bargain silently with the void -- if it loves birthdays so much, can't it at least give you a little happiness on yours?
Soon, you come across something relatively rare - a roller rink, and one which appears more or less intact. The last one you found was partway fused with a bowling alley, the surface criss-crossed with gutters, and a yawning hole filled with pins in the middle. You park your wagon in the seating area near the rink itself. Might be fun to go skating, since you're here.
First things first -- there's a water fountain, one that actually dispenses water. You drink greedily, eager to wash the sugar and grease from your mouth. That's at least one more bright spot in this lousy day.
A quick search of the office reveals that the only skates available for "rental" are in children's sizes, far too small for you. So much for that. There's a pinball machine, but it doesn't release any pinballs when you put one of your boundless supply of tokens into it.
And so, you hoist yourself up onto the padded wall of the roller rink, gazing into the neon lights.
It's your birthday.
It's your birthday, and you're never allowed to get old here. Never allowed to be an adult. You don't have to do chores, or make yourself dinner, or go into the office - but you can also never accomplish anything, learn new things, have new experiences, fall in love. You're trapped in an infinite adolescence, a place where you'll always turn ten but never turn forty. Your future was never going to amount to much, but you were robbed of even that.
And you're so deeply bored of every diversion this realm offers you, so tired of arcade games and playgrounds and bowling and mini-golf, so sick of toys and balloons and streamers. Your body aches with cravings to eat something other than cake and ice cream and pizza and chicken nuggets, but it's so rare to even find a salad or piece of fruit.
It's your birthday, and there's nothing to celebrate in a realm that never lets you escape its celebration of no one and nothing.
Your stomach rumbles. Might as well find something to eat. Wiping away the tears from your cheeks, you hoist yourself up from the padded wall, grab your wagon's handle, and pull it into a nearby party room.
There's a large square pizza, and a frosted sheet cake. Lit candles and "Happy Birthday, Brian!" written across the top in neat script.
"Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me, happy birthday in this hell hole, happy birthday to me."
You close your eyes and make a wish.
It might be fall now. You think about cycling through the park, wind in your hair, the bike path scattered with fallen leaves.
You blow out the candles.
When you open your eyes again, the cake now says "Happy 9th Birthday, Olivia!" and has a unicorn toy on top.
But the food -- the food has changes as well. There's a tray of chicken wings, and a bowl of grocery store fruit salad, all cantaloupe and watermelon and grapes. You stare, hoping it doesn't disappear before you blink again.
You devour the entire bowl. It's bland and borderline tasteless, but it's fruit, something different. The chicken wings aren't so bad, either. Thanks, Olivia.
There's a pile of presents here, too, wrapped in sparkly paper, and once you've eaten your fill, you get to opening them. Lego bricks spill from the first box, most of them fused or twisted or unfinished as though their molds ran out of plastic. The second box contains a plush toy of a creature that resembles a bird, and it reeks of petroleum -- you toss it into a corner.
The third box, however, contains a bucket of gel pens. Some of them are melted, but it seems like the bulk are normal, with working ink. Jackpot.
Maybe whatever indifferent machine created this place did somehow recognize that it was your birthday and decided to give you a present, after all.
The rink and adjoining party room are pleasant enough, so you figure you might as well stay a few days. You unpack your bedding and settle down with one of several little girls' diaries you found last week, plenty of empty pink pages to fill with your thoughts.
The pages are as empty as you feel.
You don't want a bucket of gel pens. You just want to go home.
You take a deep breath, try to ground yourself. It's your birthday, and it's been a good day, hasn't it? You don't want to waste your birthday.
You've been thinking of starting a novel, one filled with all the self-indulgent things you wish you could do if you were free. It's not like anyone here can criticize you for being cliched or immature. You can't escape, but maybe your characters can.
"It was a brisk day in mid-September, and Olivia could see the leaves turning red and gold from her apartment window..."

2023.05.19 08:50 zdaarlight A plea to Download attendees: protect your hearing.
[TL;DR and earplug recommendations at the end of the post]
Hello all!
My name's Ben, and this will be my 9th Download.
I'm in my early-mid 30s (eek) and I'm a professional music photographer. I've been going to gigs and festivals since I was 14, and have worked in the industry for over a decade. I live, sleep and breathe live music.
I also have hearing loss.
This happened very early in my gigging life. It started with one arena gig I went to age 16. I was on the barrier, right in front of a speaker stack. It was one of the best gigs of my life, but when I came home, my ears wouldn't stop ringing. I thought that was just what happened after gigs. I gave it a few days. They still didn't stop ringing. And to this day, they
still haven't stopped ringing. That one gig gave me tinnitus which will be with me for life.
I had a hearing test a few months later which confirmed that I'd lost the ability to hear a whole bunch of higher frequencies which an average 16-year-old really should have still been able to hear. 4 hours on the barrier at that gig had literally broken my ears. That part of my hearing still hasn't come back. It won't come back.
Since that day I've worn earplugs at every gig I've been to, and it's become a bit of a mission for me to convince others to do the same. I'm sorry, y'all, but I'm properly passionate about this shit now.
It's a pretty sucky fact that if you go to gigs regularly, it might not be so dramatic for you, but you're probably knackering your hearing in the same way as I did. Little by little, gig by gig. You might have had ringing in your ears after gigs - it might go away, or it might be constant. You might not even notice it. But if you go to a lot of gigs, you've probably heard it at some point.
That ringing - tinnitus - is, in short, caused by damage to parts of your inner ears. This sends weird signals to your brain, which interprets those weird signals as noise - hence, the ringing.
If you hear ringing in your ears, it means something has been damaged. Possibly irreparably. If you repeatedly put your ears in the kind of situation which might cause them to ring, that damage can build up. And in the long-term, it can, and WILL cause deafness.
Unfortunately, gigs are just really fucking loud.
This is for a reason - it's because loud music resonates with us humans. We've discovered that if you crank the music up to a certain volume, where you can scream along and know that no-one can hear you, where you feel like your internal organs are vibrating, where it's so loud that you feel like you're part of it... that's the best volume. It hits something very primal within us. That's what gigs are about.
Unfortunately, that's also fucking terrible for our ears. Do that often enough, go to enough gigs, and your shelf life for good hearing will be reduced. We might think 'wow, that gig last night was so good, my ears won't stop ringing', it might feel like a badge of honour, but that is your body telling you - 'ouch. what the fuck have you done.'
Rinse and repeat, gigs and festivals for years, and where are your ears gonna be?
I'm afraid I'm going to have to drop the chart. The one that scares the shit out of people. Here it is:
https://preview.redd.it/ltkzy2j4aq0b1.jpg?width=415&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a8bfce21e051346971e0800ef3b71e96138f4d0a This is a chart which shows how long you can be exposed to certain volumes before you start to get hearing damage.
For reference: in the UK,
health and safety regulations limit gigs to an average of 107dB anywhere in the audience, and 140dB at peak/'explosive' levels. They also recommend that audiences shouldn't be within 3m of a loudspeaker. (Think about all the small pub gigs you've been to now!)
Generally, at gigs and festivals, that 107dB level will be measured as close to the speakers as the crowd is likely to get. At a small 'backroom'/pub gig, that level will probably be similar wherever you are in the room. At a festival, the further back you are/further away from any speaker stacks, the quieter it will be.
But if you're
anywhere at a gig or a festival and you can sing along without really being able to hear yourself, or if you can't talk to a mate without yelling in their ear, you're dealing with a sound pressure level at an average of 90dB or higher. And (I'm sorry), look at the chart. You've got about 2 hours of that before your hearing starts to get fucked.
Realistically, somewhere like Download, you're going to be up around 105dB on the barrier of any stage, 90dB further back but still in the pit, 100-ish again if you're in front of any of the 'repeater' speaker stacks, 85dB half way back through the mainstage crowd, and maybe 80dB at the very very back of the arena. And that's just the mainstage/second stage. The tents will be louder for the crowd further back.
And hearing damage is cumulative. A weekend of 80dB is just as bad as an hour of 100dB.
You may not think that festivals are particularly loud, especially if you're not up the front,
but if it's loud enough that you have to lean in or raise your voice to speak to a friend, it's loud enough to damage your hearing. Which all goes to say: protect your hearing.
Thankfully, earplugs have come a long way since those foamy earplugs which just muffle everything. You can get earplugs these days which are designed for musicians and gig-goers, and they're honestly magic. I'm not kidding - they make everything sound better!! They're designed to cut out the damaging frequencies so you can hear the music as it was meant to be heard.
You know those times when you've been up close at a gig and the bass is just
bzz bzz bzz bzzz bzzz and you can't hear anything else? With a pair of proper music earplugs in, that gets cut down, and you can hear the music properly. What's more, it's easier to hear your friends when you're yelling at them too!
I use
Alpine MusicSafe Pro earplugs which are great because they come with interchangeable filters - you can change them based upon how loud the environment is! At festivals I'll typically put the lightest filters in until I go down the front, then I'll switch them up for more protection. Great for something like Download where you might be in and out of stages. But they're not so cheap, and they are a bit of faff.
ACS Pacato plugs are the basic gold standard for musicians and music lovers. -19dB fixed reduction, they'll take you down to a safe level if you're right down the front. If you want to commit to just wearing earplugs when it's VERY LOUD, these are the ones to go for. Put them in your pocket and dig them out when you think 'fuck, this is a bit loud isn't it'.
If you do nothing else, grab yourself a cheap batch of
foam earplugs in individual packs. They won't make the music sound great, but having a pair in your pocket might just save your ears if you find yourself down the front and start thinking that it's actually very, VERY loud, and you're not sure you're happy with that.
If you're coming to Download with kids, for the love of god, get them a pair of
ear defenders. Kids' ears are so much more sensitive, and the kind of volumes you get at festivals (even further back and further away from the speakers) will be so much more dangerous for them. Get them used to wearing them before the festival, get a pair on their head at Download, and you'll get a high five from me if I pass by.
If you're looking for me, I'll be that guy with the patch on their battlejacket which says 'Punks wear hearing protection' ✌🏻
tl;dr -
I'm sorry to be That Guy, but the noise levels at Download
will damage your hearing, even if you're not aware of it. Please listen to this old-timer: if you want to carry on gigging and festivalling for life, I strongly recommend protecting your ears. Heck, I'm so passionate about this shit that I might even beg you to do so. Let's all have a great time, and crucially, not end up deaf afterwards ;)
Big love, DL crew <3

MBFD Part 43 - Catch a Ride
“Something that belong to me? What are you mean with that?” Fredrick asks the large reptilian curiously, unable to think of anything he might have lost in the past few days.
Kro’gnuar grunts in understanding and leans back on his seat.
“The last time I went to the Marluuks’ place to trade for some scrap parts he told me that he heard word of a crew that found something... unusual looking near the edge of the Beastlands. That got my interest.” he explains, meticulously peeling off another slice off his Wrakka and downing it in one bite.
“I thought of the story you told us about crash-landing here on Kavir and asked him if he could get me some images or rough descriptions, but that stingy kook told me the crew who found it is being all tight-snouted about it, claiming that they have only got time for ‘serious offers’ and all that. You know him.” he sighs, nodding to Dushavee.
“Yeah, seems ‘bout right. Scavengers.” she shrugs.
Fredrick wants to know more about those ‘scavengers’ but Kirri’i interrupts him by handing him a bowl of fruit and some small pieces of grilled meat.
“Those Scav- Oh, thanks.” he gratefully accepts it, absentmindedly starting to snack from it.
“No problem.” Kirri’i winks.
“So, those Scavengers-”
“Right.” Kro’gnuar nods, continuing with his story “I asked Marluuk if he could get me their contact info and, after a bit of persuasion, he finally gave it to me.”
“Probably took a good bit of
persuadin' him, hah!” Dushavee laughs, but her jab simply gets ignored by Kro'gnuar, who continues uninterrupted.
“I sent the leader of their crew a message and he replied a while later, one thing lead to another and I am now the proud owner of a large piece of scrap out in the border-regions of the Beastlands.” he declares, holding up his comm-unit for everyone to see.
“Those markings look a bit familiar, don’t you agree?” he asks Fredrick, pointing at the Helios brand logo with a claw “I recognized them from your, how do you call it,
jahkett?”
"Jep, jacket." he confirms "Let me take a see."
Fredrick leans closer and squints at the small screen, still munching on a piece of fruit as he tries to make out the details.
“That is
Pod One.” he identifies it by its markings, trying out a grape-like fruit. “Oh, wow! Things taste great, what is called?” he asks Kirri’i.
“Those are
Druwa.” she grins, glad that he likes them “I bought them the other day when we went to the market.”
“Oh, really?
Druwa... Have to keep that in head.”
- - - - -
About an hour later, Fredrick and Kro’gnuar are approaching the reptilian’s garage, having climbed dozens of levels of the absolutely massive structure, either via endless flights of stairs or sketchy cargo lifts that would make any union-backed safety inspector blow a gasket.
Luna decided to stay back today, secretly telling Fredrick that she wants to learn more math with Dushavee instead of tagging along. She had a lot of fun learning with him and wants to try out what ‘Duvee’ has cooked up for her.Hearing that, he got all proud again and praised her for her enthusiasm, elated to see her making her first own decisions already.
“Phew, I definitely need to improve my stamina.” Fredrick jokes breathlessly, shouldering his backpack.
Going up all of those stairs with most of his equimpent on him did a real number on him, even in the lower gravity of Kavir.
“No worries, it’s right around that corner over there.” Kro’gnuar reassures him.
“Awesome." he gives him a tired thumbs-up, leaning on his knees for a bit "God, my legs hurt.”
“Are you sure you don’t need help with your things?”
“No, I am well. Thanks.” he waves him off, the translator dangling from his belt parroting after him.
Kro’gnuar has been telling him a few things about Kavir-L1 on the way, like the general layout of the structure and things like that, pointing out a few things here and there.
Apparently, this whole place is an abandoned mining colony that has been built a very long time ago, centuries as far as the old reptilian knows, which explains the grungey and industrial vibe of the place.
According to Kro'gnuar, it is also roughly shaped like an upside-down cone, starting out hundreds of meters in diameter at the top and progressively narrowing down to only a few dozen meters at the bottom level - which would be Level 87.
He also told him that the Kir-Kir is somewhere in the middle forties, where most of the habitats and small-scale businesses are. Though it is pretty much impossible to say where
exactly, as the entire area is a jumble of modified and added buildings that have been added over time, transforming the entire structure into something entirely different.
It baffles him that someone would a) build such a place to begin with, and b) then proceed to just abandon it for some reason.
But what does he know about possibly ancient alien civilizations with FTL-travel, right? That outpost on the Moon was abandoned, too...
For other reasons, though.
Probably.
Hopefully.
"Everything all right?" Kro'gnuar asks him, looking a bit concerned.
"Huh?" he blurts at him, suddenly snapped out of his brooding "Yeah, I was just think about... about-"
He can't remember what he just thought of, like a sudden haze clouding his mind. Even when he tries as hard as he can to remember, his mind just comes up blank.
"I forgot." he tells him, slightly perplexed.
"I see." Kro'gnuar dips his head in understanding "I know that feeling. Old age has its drawbacks." he chuckles, turning back to leading them to his warehouse.
They continue on and soon enough Fredrick rounds the corner with Kro’gnuar, as they finally arrive at the warehouse.
“This is it.” the massive reptilian informs him, already unlocking the door.
“Wow, it looks pretty nice.”
“You have Dushavee to thank for that, she spends a lot of time here.” Kro’gnuar tells him, vanishing into the dark interior.
“Really?” Fredrick calls out tiredly from the outside, following him inside.
“Yes.” echoes out from the metal structure “And close the door behind you.”
“Okay! ...Whoa.”
He does not know what exactly he expected an alien garage/workshop to look like, but the atmosphere of the place reminds him of those cliché backroom, semi-illegal workshops in older car movies from the early 21st century. There are several unorganized piles of absolutely wild looking parts and scraps, metal shelves are lined with a jumble of spare parts, there is... stuff with tarps draped over it and a clean workbench with the equivalent of a computer is over there in a far-off corner.
Right in the middle of everything rests a strange hovercraft-like looking vehicle, about as large as a semi-truck. On its rear loading area something the size and the rough shape of a motorcycle is securely strapped down, but he cannot tell exactly as someone put a tarp over it.
Fredrick instantly feels at home in here.
“What is that thing?” he marvels, walking up to the large vehicle as he takes in the aroma of oil and hydraulic fluid.
“That is our Scraploader.”
“Scrap loader... Oh, you transport your salvage with that?”
“Correct.”
“Damn.” Fredrick whistles impressed “How fast can it go?” he calls across the workshop.
Kro’gnuar takes a heavy looking metal box from the shelves and brings it over to the Scrap sled.
"I see you and Dushavee think alike." He rumbles, reminiscing as he heaves the box onto the sled and pats it gently.
“She like go fast, also?” Fredrick asks him.
That actually manages to make the stoic old man smile.
“Yes, she 'like go fast', also. That thing-” he motions to the covered vehicle on the cargo bed “was her idea.”
Kro’gnuar continues on, doing a lap around the vehicle, testing a few cargo straps and doing other visual checks.
“I fear very few things.” he tells him with a hint of a threat in his tone “But that thing? No way.” he shakes his head fervently.
“Did she build thing herself?”
“She did, yes. It took her many months. It is like with most things here on Kavir, or the Fringes in general. You either get lucky enough to find something that still works or you build it yourself out of scrap and trash.”
“Of course-” he stops after finishing his last inspection, nodding to himself and looking directly at Fredrick “you can also just pay someone to do it instead.”
“But that cost money.” Fredrick guesses.
“Exactly.” Kro’gnuar rumbles, heaving himself up into the Scraploader's cockpit.“And we do not have a lot of that at the moment."
Flipping a few switches and turning a few knobs, the machine comes to life with the unmistakable whine of a gas turbine spinning up and the rubber cushion on the underside of the Scraploader begins to inflate.
The machine sputters a few times as it wakes from its slumber, spitting smoke from its vents.
“Could you open that gate for me?” Kro’gnuar shouts over the noise, pointing at a barred metal gate.
“Okay!” Fredrick shouts back, hurrying over.
He quickly pushes the only button next to it and the gate slides open, metal screaming against metal as it slowly grinds open.
“Get in!” Kro’gnuar beckons him from the cockpit, leaning over to open a door for him.
Fredrick quickly gets in and slams the door shut, the volume levels dropping instantly as the near-unbearable whining and drone of huge blowers and turbines turns into a muffled rumble instead.
The cockpit feels a lot like a miniature bridge of a fishing trawler, mixed with your typical delivery truck interior. Size-wise it leans more toward the latter, not the former.
Fredrick likes the way the machine rattles and vibrates underneath him, it reminds him of his motorcycle back home.
“That was loud.” he grins, taking off his backpack and putting in between his feet.
“I do not mind it too much, my hearing is not what it used to be and it never was that good to begin with." he laughs "But it helps keep away most of the beasts out in the far reaches.”
“Yeah, I can see that.”
With a lurch, the elevator comes to a halt and the doors open up to reveal the bright, snow-covered surface of Kavir to them.
A few snowflakes lazily drift down to the ground here and there, but the skies are almost perfectly clear today.
“Are you ready?” Kro’gnuar asks him.
Fredrick sighs.
On the one hand, he is definitely curious about the Newton what's become of it, but he also has a lot of not-so-great memories from his recent times out here. Some of which start to the surface at the sight of the snowy plains, and he battles with his rising anxiety for a moment.
“Mhm.” Fredrick tentatively replies with mixed feelings about being back out here again.
But he has come prepared this time.

Hey guys, sorry for the late post but I spent all evening trying to make reddit work for me yesterday. For some stupid reason I can't make any hyperlinks anymore and copy/pasting stuff is completely broken four out of five times - it's super weird. I also didn't change anything on my end, which confuses me even more.
That's also why there are no Buttons for PrevWikiNext yet, as I still ~~haven't been able to find out how to get around that issue. :/~~Works if I try to edit the post for some reason. Technology, whoo!
And I sadly had to miss last week's release as something came up, but the next one is definitely going to be up on Tuesday - the weekly schedule is still a thing! :)
That's all from me, see ya soon! ^__^

Fun science fact #32: Quantum Mechanics. Sounds super cool, right? I think it has definitely got a nice sci-fi feel to it. What is also pretty cool about them is that about evey single storage device with Flash Memory uses quantum mechanics to save your data. Yup, you heard me right. That little SSD in your PC? It actually uses quantum mechanics to function. How neat is that? :DIf that's got you interested, look up FETs (that stands for field effect transistor, btw).
