2023.05.28 22:48 OGSpamalamadingdong Wrongful termination? How to contact HR?

So I was having stomach issues and had to call off multiple times over last month, and so I wasn't allowed to work 5 days in a row. My manager didn't add me to the scheduling application and I showed/told him several times that I was unable to access it. He wouldn't return my calls or texts, and when I called him about this week's schedule, he said I was terminated because I wasn't coming into work (??? because they told me not to for health reasons????). Can't find any HR links on Workday, anyone know how I can get in contact with them? (I work in Tempe, AZ)

2023.05.28 21:27 diamondeyes7 I've narrowed it down and need to pick 2 locations to visit this summer. (1) Reno, NV and (2) Henderson/Summerlin, NV (aka Las Vegas) or Phoenix, AZ. How to choose between the Las Vegas area or Phoenix? I've been to both areas before.

Moi again lol.
Previous post: Update to 35F looking to settle down and start a family: Phoenix, AZ or Sacramento, CA? Or any recommendations? - California is now off the table for me. https://www.reddit.com/SameGrassButGreenecomments/13q9ujh/update_to_35f_looking_to_settle_down_and_start_a/
edit: It just occurred to me that I could write off the trip to Vegas this summer, because technically I was already there last summer and was okay with the heat (even if it was slightly less than normal). Maybe I should go to Phoenix in Aug just to see if I should rule it out or keep it in the pile.
Background: I'm a 35F in Austin, TX and would be moving March 2024. I'm very happy to report I've just accept a new job offer ✨✨ where you can work remote from pretty much anywhere, except California, New York, Hawaii and Alaska. Ideally I want to met a man and start a family in one of these places. One of the main reasons I'm leaving Texas is due to the abortion laws, as well as all the hate laws they are producing towards minorities. It would also be a nice change not worrying about the electricity failing every time it gets cold too 🙃
(1) Reno, NV
(2) Summerlin/Henderson, NV
-OR- Phoenix, AZ
Of course, I could check out both Vegas and Phoenix this summer, but the more I think about it, I do want to check out Reno. I keep coming back to Las Vegas, but I feel like Phoenix offers more (dating to settle down, better schools, better healthcare).
I could also do Vegas and Phoenix this summer, and then go out to Reno later in the year around November and December. But then I would have to schedule vacation to the place I finally chose around Jan 2024 (to find an apartment) and March to move out there.

Background
Took up running at an early age, running throughout middle school. My father was very big (and still is) into marathons when I was this age. Together between the ages of 12 and 17 we ran ~15 different races together where I would run the half marathons and he would do the fulls. PB was 1:15:xx ran on two separate occasion at age 17. High school PBs were decent (2:01 - 800; 4:29 - 1600; 9:49 - 3200; 16:20 5k). Ran one year in college. Throughout my high school and into college careers I struggled with a pretty serious eating disorder requiring hospitalization 3 separate times, the worst/last being during my freshman year (2017). I needed to drop out to seek treatment and never ran again competitively. I had a love-hate relationship with running due to my issues with eating, but I truly did love the sport at heart. It brought me an incredibly deep relationship with my father, taught me incredible life lessons that carried over into all aspects of my life, helped me build lasting friendships, and brought me overwhelming joy most of the time. Once I recovered fully from the eating disorder (late 2020), I never thought running would be a part of my life it again, both due to the physical effects of the disorder and some lingering mental struggles. When it was healthy, in early 2021 I got the itch again and decided to lace the shoes back up. The first mile I ran was over 11 minutes if I remember, and that was all I could run. Slowly, however, I was able to make running a routine again and I ran 4 marathons in 2021, the first with my father 4:30+ time, and the next three in 3:12, 3:07, and 3:15. Throughout this time, I struggled with binging. Eventually, my desire to run fast again and some other desires led me to seriously train again. In 2022, due to starting working full time night shift, it was hard to keep a consistent training schedule, but I ran on average 30-40 miles a week. I helped a buddy train for his first marathon and we ran it in 3:50 (would have been 3:30 if he hadn’t collapsed 200m from the finish line). In late 2022/early 2023, I completed a very unstructured marathon training block in hopes of running Bayshore. I was out of commission almost all of January/February/early March but averaged 50-60 miles in April/May. Workouts/times hit were: 18 @ 6:50, 14 @ 6:38; 12 @ 6:31.
Race
Out and back course. Incredibly perfect weather in all aspects, 47 degrees at start 55 at finish. Flat with a few rolling hills. Ran along the shoreline of Lake Michigan with a breeze off the lake at 5-10 we ran into on the way out and had at our backs coming back. Sunny but most of the course had ample shade. Great spectator vibes and organization; aid stations at least every 2 miles with gu and Gatorade at every one after mile 4.
Went out with the plan of sticking with 6:55-7:10 for first 5-10 miles. Every half/marathon I’ve ran has had sometime of positive slip disaster along the way. Got caught up in some early congestion miles 1-2 but eventually caught up with the three hour pace group. Never usually run with the groups, but thought what the heck. We ended up clipping off 6:48s for the next 8 miles (now at mile 10). Felt easy, light, still very solid. Ended up taking gu’s every 4 miles from mile 4 on and alternated Gatorade/water at aid stations. Nutrition has always been an issue for me (especially in my eating disordered days where I would run half’s with 0 nutrition during and very poor before/after hours).
Moved up the the front of the group and even 2-5 seconds ahead. Stayed there until the half mark. Still felt incredible and started to pick up the pace. Was a little nervous in doing so, but I’ll my other disaster blow ups have been when I push the pace 6-8 miles in and by 15-30 seconds per mile. Started to push 5-10 seconds and held there for a couple. Ran with some smaller packs of 5-10 runners, but they all ended up fading at some point. By mile 18, I upped the pace again and still knew I had a lot left. Breeze was at the back, sun out of the eyes, great spectator part of the course, and mostly downhill. Held it in the 6:20s until mile 23.
Hit a mini wall, but never dropped too much, legs just got heavier and heavier but still smooth. Came through the half at 108 place and finished in 63rd…most of the passing came these last three miles. Last mile was a little brutal with legs trying to lock up but was able to sprint-jog once the finish line came into view. I knew I’d be under 2:56 from my in-race/tired brain calculations and was thrilled to see 2:53 on the clock. Had my amazing girlfriend cheering me on to 2:53:21, a 14 minute PR, BQ qualifying time, and having run one of the strategically best races of my life.
Reflection
Truly did not think I was capable of this time, or even sub 3 with my lackluster training. A lot of things aligned and went right though. Nutrition felt on point, couldn’t have asked for better weather, course was exactly 26.2, and I wasn’t over ambitious the first half but pushed when I knew I could. It was a very emotional race and finish for me, coming back from my forced hiatus before which I never knew if I would run/race again. It felt amazing to run fully fueled and to run for fun & myself instead of obligation and others as often happened in HS/college.
Not sure whether I will actually run Boston, but having the time and BQ’ing feels amazing. Both my father and grandfather’s PR’s are in 2:53:xx range. Incredibly grateful for the support of my family, girlfriend, and community. I believe their support and prayers made a lot of difference today as well.

2023.05.27 05:36 spooopydaphnee I think me being fired was a little sketchy?

So, Today I was fired from my job and It seemed sketchy.
Context: I was hired at a Gem shop back in January, everything seemed fine. Until we got a new manager because the previous one was fired “for not getting the company where it should have been” (they have always said people usually leave on their own accord, but there has been a lot of people being fired, especially recently)
We got a new GM (General Manager) i believe in about late March, she seemed fine, very corporate, which was new for the place, so she was making a lot of adjustments and we all thought it was going into a good direction and i was beginning to like the place finally after a few months of it just being weird.
For context of what my job was: I was a live show host, so i would go live on facebook and sell rocks, crystals, gems whatever you want to call them, to people all over the US and I would get commission from it, great. I start doing that. (it wasn’t what i had originally started the place doing) I was given an hour before my show to pick out what i wanted to sell that day. it would usually take me about 45 minutes to set up and i would take about the last 10-15 minutes to get mentally prepared to talk to a phone for hours about rocks (i wasn’t exactly passionate about what i was selling, but i didn’t make it obvious) so i do that for a few months and today i go into work like any other day and the moment I walk in, my gm had said that she wanted to talk to me but She had me clock in first.
okay, i go in and my shipping manager was there (when i wasn’t hosting, i would help out in shipping with invoices, help put labels on boxes etc basic stuff a lot of other people didn’t want to do ) and my GM said that it didn’t seem that i like hosting and i said that i actually did like it, i do love the people and the general interaction of it (i really did begin to enjoy doing the shows) Then she said that my owner had asked me like last week what i was planning on selling that day, and i had responded with im still working on that and he had told my manager that it was 5-10 minutes prior to my show (which i had just told y’all i was able to figure out what i wanted to sell pretty quickly and i would take the last 5-10 minutes to mentally prepare, so it couldn’t have been that soon before my show because i remember specifically taking those few extra minutes) and so the reason for my firing was “having down time and lack of preparing”
the thing is , it was out of the blue, they gave me a raise not even two weeks ago and was praising me about how well i was doing.
Yesterday i was scheduled until 5:30 which was late but it was something i did about three times a week and have been doing for a few weeks by this time. i was suppose to do labels today and was finishing up what wasn’t done yesterday so those boxes could go out and i had time to spare, i was helping myself out. My GM told me while firing me that she didn’t even know that i was there until she heard movement and l physically saw that i was looking for a box to match the label that was in my hand she has asked me what i was doing and i told her what i was doing and that i had two minutes left in my shift because she had asked when i was off and then didn’t believe me when i tried defending myself this morning. she even said she had looked at the cameras and there was a camera that was pointing to where we put the boxes when they’re labeled, so she must have seen me put boxes in the cart.
There was no screaming, i just said okay grabbed my stuff and went to my car.
after she fires me, she then asked my work best friend how he was holding up and if would be okay, so she then consoles an employee about firing another one. a lot of the other employees say it doesn’t make any sense.
I haven’t had any written warnings but one verbal warning from about a month and half ago about playing a game of solitaire on my ten minute paid break which the same Gm wanted to write me up but my administrator had convinced her not too (that admin has since been fired for whatever reason) and said the next something like that happens it would be a write up. there was never a write up, just went straight to firing me. the GM also said she was “cracking down on down time” so i thinking i was fired to prove a point. there is also a lot of other employees that did why less than i did and i got fired lol.
I do live in AZ so it is an at will state.
so does this also seem weird? should i do anything about this? or am i just freaking out?
EDIT: I do understand that you can be fired for anything, but the way it was done just seems weird
EDIT EDIT: I never got my commission check, was suppose to get it a week ago and i just straight up never got it

2023.05.25 05:41 goobly-gob510 WAMC Dental 2023-2024 cycle? Should I retake DAT or pursue post-bac? Will the 17 PAT hurt my chances?

Date of submission: My plan is to apply on May 30th/ June 1st Overall GPA: 3.66 Science GPA: ~3.28 (not sure if this is completely accurate, could only get higher though) Bio-Chem-Physics GPA: ~3.35 (I graduated already, but am taking physics 2 after graduation because I could not fit it into my schedule is that a red flag?) DAT score (include AA and all sections): 20 AA/ 18 TS/ 18 GC/18 Bio/ 19 OC/ 23 RC/ 21 Q 17 PAT (Yikes) State of Residence: Florida Undergrad Attended: University of Florida Major: Health Education and Behavior Minority? No. Asian woman.
Shadowing Experience: I have shadowed a general dentist for like 20 hours and an oral surgery office for about 30 hours. Volunteering Experience: I interned (non-paid) with a community dentistry program and have 320 hours. Can I count that as shadowing because I literally helped with certain procedures and watched a dentist the whole time? Employment: Retail experience throughout college as a cashier at a supermarket (worked throughout college), Tutored for the SAT/ACT for 3 years, Babysat at a church for a year (~30 hours) Research: one year of health education related (cannabis misuse among adolescents) research at school, don't have publications, however. Other Extracurriculars: did wheel throwing and ceramics for 1.5 years, learned to play the ukulele during the pandemic, play the cello as a hobby, mentor program within my department, served as VP of my inter-residence hall association my first year Relevant Honors or Awards: Dean's list 2 or 3 times, did not graduate honors LOR type and strength: One committee letter from my advisor, a strong letter from my dentist at my internship who also happens to be on the admission committee, a strong letter from my research PI, and a strong letter from my dental internship supervisor. Misc Info/Things not stated elsewhere/Red Flags: I am taking a gap year and trying to find a dental assisting job. I did not join any dental clubs or anything because they were costly. I have 3 W on my transcript and my last two semesters of classes I had 2 C's (orgo 2 and biochem). I withdrew from a computer class (changed my major afterward and was it was during my first semester, so I am not too worried about explaining that), then I withdrew from Chem 2 and orgo 1 due to mental health reasons but I retook chem 2 at CC and got an A, and orgo 1 at my uni and got a B. I am also currently taking physics 2 at a cc after I have graduated because I could not fit it into my college schedule (planning on getting an A, which will hopefully boost my gpa). School list: there's roughly 30
Schools I am unsure whether I should apply or not: Western University (CA), UNC, Univ of Buffalo, Ohio state, UPenn, Medical Univ of South Carolina
I know this is a long post but suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated. I have heard of lots of people not getting in and it has been getting to me recently. How bad are the 3 W's on my transcript? How is my gpa and DAT? Will the 17 PAT hurt me? How does taking physics 2 at CC after graduating look? Can I add my internship hours as shadowing hours? And please suggest any schools I should add or cut out. I would much rather get in this cycle than wait another year so I am okay with applying to as many schools as I need to.
Thank you so much in advance for taking the time to read this post and respond. It means a lot and will hopefully give me direction as to how I should feel about all of this.

2023.05.25 00:34 DevanDrake-99 Any WordGirl fans here upset when some of your local stations pulled that show in 2014 due to Double Your Fun?

I'm not technically a WordGirl fan, but I know how they felt about the show being pulled from the schedule despite producing newer episodes until 2015. Notable PBS stations including New Mexico PBS and AETN (Arkansas Educational Television Network) dropped WordGirl permanently after May 2014. I'm lucky that my PBS station didn't drop WordGirl, but I was more into Martha Speaks. I used to watch Martha Speaks every morning at 7:30 AM before school since I didn't have cable. But when the Double Your Fun event started, Martha Speaks was pulled from the 7:30 AM time slot in favor of the extra episode of Arthur, and was moved to 5:00 PM. I couldn't get to watch Martha Speaks at those time slots since I'm at school during 2:30 PM and I'm out in the community with my behavioral therapy staff during 5:00 PM. It made me upset when I found out that it became a permanent schedule rather than a Summer only schedule as stated in the promo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nH23PHYxa-o. It made me realized that PBS Kids lied about the event that it stated that it would only be airing it all Summer.
What are your opinions about the Double Your Fun? I thought it was a good idea until that point.
