Kremer Funeral Home - Have the bodies/ashes been returned?
Was driving past this funeral home and thought to give it a Google. Found these articles and heartbreaking experience in the reviews. It is currently listed as permanently closed and bankrupt. Anyone have insight or hear if there has been any resolution for the families?

2023.05.29 23:05 eiramired Ignite the Ashes Prologue - End of an Era

Synopsis:
Nine years following the execution of the old Sovereign, the four dukedoms of Augustein teeter on the brink of combustion.
Excess magic ore mining has resulted in unstable regions of shifting trees, violent storms, and a creeping plague of stillness that leaves everything frozen in time. Watchmen struggle to fend off the relentless attacks of Aberrations, while strict regulations on magic ore force aspiring magicians to sacrifice their own finite reserves at the cost of their health and, ultimately, their lives.
Amara is the sole survivor of a series of magic experiments ordered by the old Sovereign. Left with a reduced lifespan and an unnatural magic with the unique ability to progress, Amara is determined to live out the rest of her life to its fullest.
She’s going out like an explosion, and she’ll make sure that no one can look away.

This is a character focused, slow-burn high fantasy story with progression and light LitRPG elements that become prominent after the introductory arc, which spans through chapter 20.
It features flawed and morally ambiguous characters, unreliable narrators, and some darker elements, but there are plenty of lighter moments as well!

Prologue - End of an Era
Rosenfell Palace, Helisturn, Arcvale Dukedom of Augustein, Year 986
The palace halls glowed in the evening light. The last rays of sunlight filtered through cracked and broken windows, outlining piles of debris in gold. Clouds of dust rose from broken pillars and walls, shimmering as they drifted over cold, limp figures strewn about like fallen leaves. The plush red carpet, once bright and soft as snow, had been torn and shredded beyond recognition. Dark splotches littered its surface, many areas now beginning to dry and crack while still others remained moist to the touch.
A few hours ago, when the sun had still hung suspended in the clear blue sky, the palace walls had been trapped in a flurry of motion. The ringing of metal against metal, the pounding of heavy footsteps, and the shrill sounds of screams had echoed throughout the space as an invading wave of violence swept the pristine halls. Now, in the aftermath, an unnatural stillness had come to replace the rush.
A young man turned the corner, whistling an old folk song to himself as he walked. He wore an electric blue uniform that was crumpled and ripped around its edges. The color was mirrored by the single glove he wore on his left hand. His right hand was bare, and a lingering ultramarine light outlined a string of letters and numbers across his skin.
One particularly large stain covered nearly the entire stomach region of his uniform, a dark rust red that crumbled slightly whenever the man moved. A few stray splotches of the same color dotted his messy hair and tan skin, but the man made no motion to wipe the droplets off. Nor did he move to clean the equally bloodied spear strapped behind his back, the metal glinting in the sunlight. He simply strode forward with the laxness of a casual stroll, his eyes drifting about the ruined hallway and still corpses.
Finally, after he’d passed by shattered portraits and kicked aside a few bodies blocking the way with his boots, the man came to a halt.
“Oh, there it is.”
Crouching down, the man picked up a single glove lying in a dark pool of viscous liquid. He shook it a few times, and the fabric made a squelching noise. He frowned. The glove was so stained that barely any of the original blue color remained, but on closer inspection, the cloth itself seemed to be holding up well enough. Shrugging, the man slid it on, hiding the glowing numbers that were only just beginning to fade from the back of his hand.

1 ACTIVE ATTUNEMENT

“Allen!”
The man in question turned at the sound of his name being called. He raised an eyebrow at the sight of a similarly dressed soldier running forward, who halted when he saw the wreckage within the hallway. Henry’s eyes swept across the scattered bodies, and after a moment of hesitation, he continued forward with careful steps.
The two of them had been watchmen in the same area before Allen had been promoted to Duke Valister’s personal guard, and they’d reunited during the coup’s planning stages. The man was rather friendly, even excessively so at times, and he’d always treated Allen with a somewhat uncomfortable degree of reverence despite being older. But then again, magical prowess always trumped age when it came to respect.
Henry came to a stop a few feet away. In comparison to Allen, his uniform, while still stained and rumpled, was in significantly better condition, and his two gloves were a plain brown rather than blue. He frowned when his eyes fell on Allen’s very bloody glove, shuddering slightly.
“Isn’t that uncomfortable?”
Allen stretched his fingers in response, and the gloves made a squishy sound. “Eh, it still works fine.” He took a moment to assess the other man, cocking his head to the side and grinning at Henry’s poorly concealed disgust. “What, you squeamish?”
“I’m not,” Henry insisted, not meeting his eyes. Allen took a step forward. The other man’s fidgeting was even more obvious up close, and now that he paid more attention, his pale skin had taken on a greenish hue. Allen’s eyes briefly swept over the scattered bodies before returning again. He raised an eyebrow.
“Need me to use emotion magic?”
That made Henry’s head snap up, eyes widening in alarm. “I didn’t know you had an affinity—no wait, that’s not the point.” He shook his head and cleared his throat. “I’m fine, I swear! I’m just, uh, more used to fighting Aberrations.” Not humans.
“It’s just a minor affinity, but I’ve gotten pretty good with it.” Allen shrugged. “Fair enough. Anyway, what’re you doing here?”
“We’re supposed to report to the throne room,” Henry explained. “I came to get you.”
Allen hummed in response. He turned and began to slowly head back down the hallway, Henry following at his heels. “So Raymoth’s dead, right?”
Henry’s eyes darted around nervously, as if he was worried a ghost would appear at the mere utterance of the name. He nodded and cleared his throat. “Yeah, uh, I heard Duke Valister and Duchess Rosevale both did it.”
Allen whistled. “Oh really? Figured it’d just be the Duchess.” Then again, Duke Valister’s disdain for the former Sovereign was well known among his guards. Hell, Allen was half convinced the main reason the Duke had joined the alliance at all was to be part of the Raymoth family’s demise.
Turning the corner, Allen continued down a wider hallway that was in significantly better condition than the one they’d just been in. Not as much direct fighting had taken place there, and any that did had been over fast enough to minimize the mess. Allen glanced around as they walked, but he couldn’t see any other soldiers around. He guessed most didn’t want to risk disrespecting the new Sovereign. He didn’t know her very well, but from the few times he’d seen Duchess Rosevale before and during the coup, he’d understood why her soldiers were so convinced of her victory. She moved with a silent, unyielding assuredness, as if she already was the Sovereign.
For a few minutes neither of the two spoke as they continued to weave their way through the admittedly large palace. Allen didn’t even know what half the rooms were for; he’d probably go crazy if he had to live somewhere like this.
Allen could feel Henry’s eyes watching him, and he turned his head back, eyebrow raised. “What?”
The other man coughed and looked away. “Sorry, it’s just…” his voice trailed. “Did you hear about the notes?”
Allen frowned and slowed his pace. “What notes?”
Henry stared at the ground ahead of them uncomfortably. “When they ransacked Sove—Duke Raymoth’s,” he corrected, “—notes, they found some really…disturbing stuff. Something about magic experiments going on in northern Vanstead, kidnapping kids, stuff like that.” He swallowed, voice quieting to barely above a whisper. “But the thing is, they showed the notes to the Duke and Duchess, but they said it didn’t concern them. I heard—I heard Duke Valister even said it’d be interesting to keep an eye on them.”
That sounded exactly like something the Duke would say. The two of them turned another corner. Allen also didn’t doubt for a second that the Raymoths would’ve been involved in something like that. Aldridge Raymoth had gone a bit off the deep end in the past decade, and continued magic experiments on children sounded exactly like the sort of thing he would resort to.
“Do you really think they’re gonna let them continue?” Henry asked, voice visibly distressed. Surely the new regime will be better than that, was the unspoken thought.
Before Allen could respond, however, a third voice interrupted them.
“You’re late.”
The two came to a halt as a new figure stepped forward from behind a pillar. Allen frowned in recognition.
Desmond Reinford was one of the commanding officers of the Rosevales’ troops. He was around the same age as Allen, but the similarities stopped there. His uniform, as opposed to blue, was a deep red color that contrasted against his dark skin and hair. The man stood slightly shorter than average, but had such impeccable posture that he often seemed taller, unlike Allen who perpetually slouched. His uniform was crisp and without a single stain or tear in sight, and the sheathed rapier at his waist looked equally pristine. If Allen hadn’t seen the man during the coup, he would’ve thought that he hadn’t fought at all.
What most stood out, however, were the man’s gloves. They were a pure, stark white that almost seemed to glow in the quickly dimming hallway. Allen stared at them.
“Looks like someone got promoted.”
Henry nudged his elbow, but Allen didn’t stop staring. His friend laughed nervously. “Sorry sir, we, uh, got lost in the hallways?”
“I dropped my glove,” Allen said bluntly. He pointed at the stained glove in question. It was beginning to dry now, and the fabric was a little stiff.
Desmond met his gaze, eyes cold and sharp. Allen heard Henry swallow beside him.
“I see,” the man said. He gestured down the hallway, where the large, heavy throne room doors stood in the distance. Their deep mahogany surface shone, the light highlighting the intricate carvings detailing Augustein’s myths. All three of the major houses’ crests were carved into the wood, though where the banner of the ruling house would normally hang was empty, soon to be replaced with a new dynasty. Allen couldn’t help but wonder if they’d get a new door, one with the Valister’s crest replacing the Raymoths. Coups had happened plenty of times in their history, but never had one of the three major houses been completely decimated like this.
“The Sovereign is giving promotions and rewards to those of us who fought in the coup,” Desmond said. “I suggest you go before all the ore is taken.” Without another word, the man turned and strode away, likely to check the rest of the palace for stragglers, Allen guessed.
Beside him, Henry’s eyes lit up at the mention of magic ore, only to immediately deflate when the rest of Desmond’s words settled. Allen slapped him on the back.
“Don’t worry, they’ve probably got specific ore rations set aside for everyone. No way they’d just let us take them in a free for all.” Allen was frankly impressed that they were giving away ore at all, considering how stingy the nobility was with it.
Henry looked hopeful at that. “You think?”
Allen nodded. “Yeah, don’t worry. He’s just being an asshole.”
The other man winced slightly. His eyes darted around. “Uh, maybe you shouldn’t say that out loud? Especially, especially if he’s a Rose now.”
“Oh he definitely is.” No one wore white gloves but the Roses, the elite soldiers who served the Sovereign directly and were the most effective at combating Aberrations. All of them were certified as court magicians, and they were handpicked by the Sovereign. Considering the old Sovereign was now dead and a significant chunk of the former Roses had gone down with him, Allen guessed Duchess Rosevale was combing through her personal guard for people to promote. As far as he knew, Desmond had already passed the court magician test, so he would’ve been an easy pick.
He cracked his shoulder and sighed. The adrenaline rush from the coup had been fading for a while now, but now that the sun had nearly set fully and the shadows of the hallway had grown to engulf a majority of its surface, a new wave of exhaustion was settling into his bones.
“Come on, let’s hurry up,” he said. Henry nodded and hurried behind him.
As they passed by a tall window, Allen took a moment to glance outside. A few sprays of stars were visible in the darkening sky, and he could see city lights glowing in the distance as the lamplighters made their rounds. It was, by all accounts, a peaceful night, one that continued completely divorced from the happenings in the palace.
Surely the whole city would’ve heard about the coup. Allen wondered if even now, citizens were huddled together in their homes, or if they stood outside straining their necks to see what was happening in the palace. Waiting to learn the fate of the country.
Allen peeled his eyes away, facing forward and continuing down the hallway towards the throne room.

Penrith, Vanstead Dukedom of Augustein Year 995
High up in the watchtower, the villagers looked like a dark stream flowing between the buildings and flooding down the dirt road, some running south, others crossing streets for final traveling preparations and goodbyes.
Two nights ago, the forest had swallowed the village north of them. The watchman had seen it happen, had witnessed the ground tremble and the branches snake out, enveloping the homes, growing and then shrinking, twisting and dancing among the perfectly still buildings. He was almost glad no one had been outside, because that way he didn’t have to see the victims. But then, if the residents of those homes were outdoors, perhaps they would’ve managed to escape.
Or maybe he had seen the bodies and simply hadn’t recognized them, hadn’t managed to distinguish them from the twisted trunks and undulating ground. The warping of the forest was no more merciful to any living creatures who stumbled upon it, and the watchman, for all his years observing the shifting trees, couldn’t say with confidence that he’d be able to tell a corpse apart.
The man leaned forward against the wooden railing, peering down at the commotion. Given the speed the forest had moved at, he estimated they had a week at most before this town, too, was consumed. His own single bag lay packed near the front door of his home, ready to be picked up at a moment’s notice. Though he estimated most would be gone within the next three days, maybe excluding some particularly stubborn folks, the watchman didn’t plan on escaping until everyone else was gone first. Useless sentiment though it may be, he still had his pride.
The waves of people finally began to thin down as the current crowd left, leaving behind the remaining villagers. About twice as many people had left that day than the day before, the watchman estimated.
He sighed and shook his head. Now that the chaos had died down, those lingering on the streets continued with their business. His eyes glanced down at his watch, and he realized his shift had ended three minutes ago.
The watchman stepped back from the railing and stretched his arms. Maybe he’d stop by the tavern. Wallace, the owner, was adamant about keeping it open until “the last damn day we got,” which he appreciated. Just as he turned to go, however, a flash of orange caught his eye. He frowned and leaned over the wooden railing to peer further down the streets.
There, entering from the southern gates, a figure moved opposite to the direction the fleeing stream had taken.
A young woman was walking leisurely forward, her short wavy hair glinting as it caught the rays of sunlight. The lack of panic, hurry, or fear in her eyes made the watchman blink. There was only casual curiosity, as though she had simply been on a stroll and ran across an interesting plant. Her medium brown complexion was somewhat rare in northern Vanstead; perhaps she was from the south and hadn’t heard about the forest creeping closer? The watchman didn’t know how else to make sense of someone deliberately choosing to enter the town at such a time.
The closer the woman approached, the more details became evident. The watchman’s eyes widened.
The woman’s bare arms were covered in scars. Long, jagged lines and thin, thread-like marks. Raised bursts and patches of wrinkled and pulled skin. Some scars had an almost systematic pattern to them, neat and intentioned, while others were so chaotically scattered that it was impossible to differentiate where one began and another one ended.
For several moments the watchman simply stared at her, unable to peel his eyes away, when a sudden movement broke him out of his trance. The woman was waving enthusiastically in his direction.
Brow furrowed, the watchman watched as the woman ran up to the base of the tower, moving deceptively fast. She grinned up at him, beaming and utterly uncaring of the twisting forest approaching in the distance or of the half empty village and the stares she was already receiving.
Head tilted back, her green eyes seemed to glow in the light.
“Hey, can you give me some directions?”

2023.05.29 23:00 HercHuntsdirty My (24F) Girlfriend Of 6 Years Ended Things With Me (26M) - Looking for Advice

I (26M) was recently broken up with by my (24F) girlfriend of 6 years right after opening up to her about how I had been struggling a lot mentally recently. That's not necessarily the cause, but it happens to be a terrible coincidence.
Backstory to the unfortunate mental struggles:
About 10 weeks ago I had a very long night out and woke up extremely hungover. My brother met up with me that night in our parents car and ended up staying with us for a few drinks, so evidently he left the car.
Of course, I woke up and had a boatload of caffeine so I was already on edge a little bit. My brother was still asleep, so my mom asked me if I could quickly drive my dad to the car so he could take it home. No problem, I hopped in my car and drove there with my dad.
On the way home, completely unprovoked and no anxiety prior, I had an insane panic attack. I’ve never experienced anything like it before. I think I’ve only had one panic attack in my life, and for some reason it left me with a very small amount of social anxiety. During this attack, my hands and feet were completely numb and sweating. At first, I had literally no idea what was going on - I thought it was a legitimate health issue. I ended up taking a bit to drive home, but I made it.
Since then, I've just had heightened anxiety. I've had one other panic attack in the past and I eventually got over the lingering anxiety, so I knew it wasn't permanent.
Mental Health Backstory on her end:
To preface this, we both have anxiety/depression in our genetics unfortunately. In fact, her mom spent some time in the hospital when they were young because of how bad it got.
She also apparently had a ton of anxiety from work recently (she's a nurse, I'm in tech).
On my mothers side of the family, my mom, grandma and great grandma have struggled with anxiety their entire lives, some of them taking antidepressants.
Not fun genes for either of us to have, but we persevered!
Our Relationship:
This is what has been getting to me, our relationship was very healthy. We argued probably 2-3 times per year, we spent the majority of days together - as we lived only a 5 minute drive apart. We were both fully a part of each other's families. All of the normal relationship stuff, we were completely engulfed in it. We had also been looking at engagement rings for a bit and ALWAYS talked about our life together.
When I was about 19 before we were together, I used to drunkenly talk about her all of the time to my friends saying "if she ever gets out of the relationship with her boyfriend (at that time) she's the one I'm going for". When I was graduating high school, I went into her class on yearbook day, grabbed her yearbook and wrote my number in it. Long story short, she ended up single and within a month of that happening, we were together.
The "problems" we had over the years that were semi-recurring:
I didn't suggest enough of our plans. I explained to her a number of times that I'd happily go anywhere, I just don't tend to suggest ideas because sometimes she wanted to, other times she didn't. I've lived by the motto "happy wife, happy life" in that relationship, so I tended to go along with whatever she suggested.
We didn't take enough pictures together. I don't really like being in too many pictures and that bothered her.
We didn't travel together enough. This goes back to the anxiety, I hate flying and haven't done it in almost a decade. However, I have an appointment with my doctor in early July where I'm requesting some "emergencies only" anxiety medication to use for that exact scenario. Note - she went on a number of trips over the years with her closest friends. Furthermore, we had done weekend getaways via car together but those apparently don't count. To add, her friends are hopping on planes at least once per month to go somewhere, I think comparison became the thief of joy here.
I didn't tell her I loved her enough or hug her enough. This one is hard for me because I felt like I definitely told her I loved her a lot. She used to occasionally say "do you even love me", semi-joking but also serious, and I always told her of course I did and even though I may not say it a number of times a day, of course I do. I also did a TON of things for her to show how much I cared (ie. she very rarely had to make a lunch for work, I cooked for her almost every day and we don't even live together) The hugging thing is a bit different, as she's always been extremely affectionate and I never really have been. I truly think it comes down to how I was raised, affection just wasn't a huge part of my childhood. (note, that's not a problem for me or anything, I had incredible family/parents, it just wasn't as prominent as it was in her childhood)
I cared a lot about money and how we could set ourselves up to move out. She had taken 5 trips (two of them by train, three by plane) with her friends in the past year and after the 5th one I asked if she planned on slowing down so she could focus on tackling her student debt and so we could start saving to move out, have a wedding etc. Specifically, I wanted us to be in the position where we weren't renting a home, ESPECIALLY given how much money we were making combined. This part kind of confused me because she was the first one to suggest moving out, but when it came time to adjusting the lifestyle to prepare for it, she didn't like the idea. But, I did use it as a crutch for my anxiety to get out of things sometimes and I did open up to her about that. As an example though, I still went with her to the Gucci store and helped her pick out a very expensive purse to celebrate getting her first real nursing job after graduating. I don't feel that I cared about money (especially given the stage we were in in our lives) more than any of my buddies with girlfriends. I wanted us to be set up well for the coming stages of our lives; they were fast approaching. Furthermore, her friends are catching a plane every weekend and are living with their parents but pay cheque to pay cheque with no prospects of ever leaving unless it's renting
The Situation:
About 7-ish weeks ago, a few weeks after my panic attack, my girlfriend was very adamant that we needed to book a trip together. She said we hadn't been on a "real" trip during our relationship (by real, she means getting on a plane). We were sitting down in her bed on my laptop looking at destinations and flights, but I was incredibly anxious about the whole thing. As we were about to book, I broke down and was fully vulnerable to her for one of the first times in the 6 year relationship. I said that I just don't see myself getting onto a plane right now without some kind of medication to calm me down. On top of that, it would stress me out financially a bit, as I'm a full-time masters student and working full time. Plus, it was during my one-week semester break, so I honestly just wanted to relax.
From that day on, our relationship started going downhill. She said she felt extremely disappointed by the whole situation and she couldn't shake the feeling. We then started only hanging out maybe once per week and it was very bland when we did. A couple weeks after that incident, I slept over at her house and I could tell she was genuinely just not happy at that time.
Brief backstory - despite being 26, my mom still gives me a ton of flack if I sleep at her house. It was rare that I got away with it. But, I did it that night anyway because she always asked me to sleep over but I rarely wanted to have to deal with my mom. I thought it would help show her I'm really trying to get better. She also invited me over the following evening and I obviously went.
After that day, I don't think we saw each other for about 2 weeks. I texted her on a Friday evening and said I just don't feel like she wants to be with me anymore. She picked me up so we could talk, and explained that she felt very disappointed about how we were so close to booking the trip and ended up not doing it. She said she needed a break and I was fine with it, I understood where she was coming from.
During this time, I started seeing a therapist. I found one online who was one of the highest rated in my province and was also extremely experienced in marital/pre-marital counselling so I could tell her about the relationship issues I was having along with my anxiety.
Fast forward about 2 more weeks (last weekend) she texted me saying she was ready to talk and picked me up. She said it's probably best if we just end the relationship for the time being. She explained that she felt she had been disappointed a few times over the years and was bottling a lot of things up. She said she needed time to "find herself again" and didn't know if we would get back together at all in the future or not. Then, we sat there talking in her car for another 30 minutes like things were normal so it really threw me off.
I ended up texting her the next day and asked if I could pick her up because I was confused from the night prior since we talked so normally after the breakup conversation. We ended up talking again, sharing some tears and what not, but I kind of understood why she felt she needed to be alone for a bit, even though she didn't know if we would get back together or not. She said that people do this all of the time and sometimes they come back stronger, but if it was meant to be then we'll get back together. I also told her about how much help I'm getting and how I'm setting a goal to take a vacation when I finish my masters in November. She was noticeably happy and asked a lot about how I was talking to my therapist about improving as a person and a (what I thought was soon to be) fiancé. She asked for all of the details about what we talked about in regards to our relationship and was very happy that I was putting that much effort in.
A couple days ago is when she deleted are photos together, but it came right after she posted an Instagram story while out with a friend who has no stability whatsoever. This friend has been on and off with the same guy (who treats her terribly) for as long as we were together. Not to mention, she sleeps around a ton. I can't help but feel like some of this breakup is being influenced by her friends (specifically this one) wanting her to be single like they are out of jealousy or something. Or, they want her to be flying somewhere once a month with them with no plans for the future. My girlfriend has cried to me in the past because she had been brought to places she didn't want to be because her friend wanted to go for a guy. That friend has also been binge drinking several times weekly for years. The following night, her two friends posted a story of her incredibly drunk in the back of a car with her feet out of the window I'm sure in hopes that I would see it. We're grown ass adults, I can't help but feel like that's just not a cool thing to do to your friend in general? I don't care how drunk you are, in fact I expected her to have a night out with her friends and let loose but posting someone else like that is just insanely stupid to me! To put the icing on the cake, one of my long time buddies from high school decided to go for one of her friends and I gave him substantial warnings about her. Within a year, that relationship was completely over with and she was on to the next.
Neither of us were ever the type one to have one-night stands or get around, so I'm not concerned about anything like that during the breakup. If it happens it happens, but I won't be sleeping with anyone until I've put in all of my effort to saving everything we've built. She's only ever been with me and her ex, while I've had a handful more partners before her - but I've experienced enough in my 26 years to know that there was is only one woman for me.
After all of this, I still couldn't shake the feeling that I felt I was being abandoned during the one time in my entire life I've opened up to anyone and really wanted some support. I'm also just having a hard time processing why it happened and how I can salvage it.
I've texted her once per week since the breaks & breakup happened just telling her that I loved her and wished we were going to XYZ events coming up. I also always say in the message that "You don't have to respond or even read it, I just want you to know". I'm having a hard time deciding if I should continue giving her that weekly text or not, but I really do want her to know how much I care and thought we were a dream team.
I just can't help but feel like we had "problems" that were very fixable and were very minor compared to 99% of couples. Her two best friends have had 5+ boyfriends each in the time that we were together and countless one-night stands. Every time they would break up, I'd hear a story from my girlfriend about how terribly they were treated by these guys and we talked about how lucky we are to have each other. There was no forms of jealousy or self-consciousness between us either, neither of us were bothered when we went out alone with our respective friend groups. I also never for a second worried when she travelled with her friends that she'd cheat or something.
This wraps in with why I can't process the breakup. Aside from the few things we argued about here and there (few times a year) it was an incredibly healthy relationship. I had a great relationship with her friends (despite some of the things I've said about them above) and would often times opt to go out drinking with her group over my group of buddies. I acknowledged my shortcomings as a boyfriend (ie. the affection) with my therapist and she's giving me some help with it. Am I crazy for thinking 1. that I can fix what's happened and 2. Part of this breakup might just be her wanting to see how much I actually care?
Anyway, I might add to this if I remember more important points. I just needed to get some of this off my chest. If you've made it this far into my story, thanks for reading!
TL;DR: A very healthy relationship was ended with a trickle down effect of my mental health being poor at the moment, but was healthy otherwise. How can I salvage everything we've built over 6 years?

2023.05.29 22:59 SissieDuck My Dad is gone.

My father passed away on January 31, 2023. He was my hero most of my life.
I have dyslexia, sorry about spelling and punctuation
The last few years have been ruff, for his and my relationship. Long story about family problems and him being headstrong. We didn't talk as much as I would have liked but, we still loved one another. The distance between usof more then 2,000 miles didn't help. This ment we didn't see one another a much.
I know grief is not a strait line. It just hit so hard today. Like, I really know he is gone. It's not just he is traveling, like he did so much in my life. He is not just angry about something, choosing not to talk with me for a day or two. Just gone...
I was brought up in a very strict, religious home. My siblings and I are very close, and where very sheltered growing up. The fact that he passed from a recreational drug overdose, just rips my foundation of his identity for me. How did I not know?
I didn't get to see him in December for his birthday. I had flown home to see my Mom and Dad (they are divorced). I finished a degree and got my dream job. I had known it would be sometime before I was back home. He refused to see me saying he had a migraine. I now know that was false. I have guilt around not pushing.
I have put together his funeral in Feb. I cleaned his house to be rented more then a month ago. Seeing the needles and way his home was at the end... I will never forget.
For some reason, Today.. I realized he was gone. It's tearing me apart. I miss him. Today, seems harder then another and If you asked me why, I couldn't tell you.
So I lay here in bed crying.

2023.05.29 19:42 fireheart_2107 My best friend of 2 years cut me off because I wasn’t single anymore

Tw: Mentions of SA.
I (21F) am currently in the 3rd year of medical school. I met my ex-best friend (A) on the first day of my first year. We were in the same batch and spent almost every day for two and a half years together. We were part of a group of six girls, and I loved them all, but I was especially close to A. She knew about my entire life, my past relationships, my personal and family issues and my current love interests.
Throughout this time, I have supported her through three breakups and multiple family issues. By the end of my first year, I was SA'd and she was the first person I told. After the incident I withdrew from everyone and everything to focus on myself and we had a fight two weeks later about how I wasn’t giving her enough attention and how she was going through a breakup at that time, and I should have been there for her. I didn’t speak to her for a few weeks after that and she realized what she did and apologized after that.
Three months after that, my grandfather passed away and at a time when, my entire family was planning his funeral she called me and asked me to console her because she had a fight with her boyfriend.
I realized something wasn’t right, but I let it slide and gave her the benefit of the doubt. Three months after grandfather passed away, I met a man. We were already close friends and developed a liking towards each other. And for the first time since my SA I felt safe around a mans presence. He’s warm, kind, understanding and reassuring, supportive and my biggest pillar of strength. A knew about him and how much I cared for him. I guess that’s where it all started. She was single, I had met the man of my dreams for the first time in a very long time, I truly felt loved and all I got from A instead of the support of a best friend were remarks about how I don’t prioritize her anymore. Couple of months into my relationship, the entire group of girls and few the boyfriends went on a trip. And in that trip, she fought with me relentlessly, about something as trivial as confirming an id for the villa we rented, our bus ticket back home and the worst, me holding hands with my boyfriend.
Mind you, she was fine with the other girls making out with their boyfriends or even having sex in the next room, but I couldn’t hold hands with mine without her getting upset.
Even after all of this, I still decided to check up on her when we got back home and got no response until one random day, I got a couple of notifications about every girl in the group left our Instagram group. I was blindsided and heartbroken, how could my best friend do this to me? How could the person I have shared the most intimate details of my life, and the person I confided in after my Sa do this to me? I was hurt and felt betrayed. I regretted everything I said to her over the past 2.5 years.
None of the girls came to me for my side of the story, and even if they did, I wouldn’t know what to say because idk what I did. I don't even know what happened, all I know is that one day I woke up and had no friends in college and 100 rumors about me spreading around.
The only good thing, I let go of a bunch of toxic people, and I have been dating my boyfriend for a year now.

2023.05.29 19:05 Revolutionary-Try505 Teeth.

If he had just decided to be a dentist, he could have turned out okay. Maybe.
Alec never went to school, but even though he was frowned upon and neglected from crucial experiences for his dream career, he still used to find a way to stay optimistic, just like how leaves would always grow back in beautiful colours after harsh and seemingly endless winters. But not anymore. He lived at the edges of a complex yet basic neighbourhood that felt more liminal than homelike; Every house always looked exactly the same as the one before, and this effect seemed to last infinitely, an endless road cowering between the walls of brick and trimmed hedges. The sky always seemed to be stuck in a perpetual state of dismay, with tints and tones of shadows projecting onto the environment below. His house, however, stuck out from the repeating patterns of the sky above and the formations of the basic houses around him. Alec’s house seemed different, felt different, even smelt differently to the others. Instead of evergreens in front of his house, he had chosen spring flowers so that he could watch them rot in the summer and freeze up in the winter. This left an inescapable fog of scents that would descend onto any person that passed by, an unappealing mixture of rotten foods and the slimy liquid found at the bottom of food bins. His actual house, the one inherited from his mother after her peaceful death, sat by in neglect and almost looked sad to look so far from picturesque.
His yard, and even the driveway both sat forgotten amidst the sea of weeds and tendrils, imprisoned.
Alec would leave the house once a day, at exactly 13:13. He looked young, unusually young, yet old and hunched at the same time. He always wore the same earl grey cardigan that faded his twisted form into the sky that cried above him. He stood silently, menacingly for hours on end, just looking out into the abyss above, his hands and pockets filled, even overflowing with old, stained teeth. To the old neighbours, the ones that had abandoned their homes within the first month of Alec’s appearance, he looked delusional, even psychopathic. This enigmatic ritual may have presented Alec like this, but it was far from the truth. Even though he had a lack of education, Alec was smart, dangerously smart, and presented himself like a lunatic man to avoid the ones looking for him, or their molars.
His mother. In her casket. Dead. Not alive. Not breathing.
“She doesn't deserve all this” Alec screamed at himself, confining the raw and unfiltered anger within his head, its minacious intent scratching and clawing at his mouth to open. He couldn't do anything to stop these thoughts, but knew they would be detrimental to his mother, even within the next few minutes. His fascination with teeth, something that had carried through from his childhood when he still believed in dreams and luck and wishes and fate, still brought him the ecstasy and joy it once did. He couldn't help it. Their pearly surface riddled with bumps and imperfections brought him a plethora of emotion, and enlarged his curiosity to a possessive extent, forcing, compelling him to do things he knew he shouldn't… He just wanted to see other peoples smiles without the cover of flesh and the shadow of a skull above. Just how their teeth smiled. Only their teeth.
His mother. Her mouth closed. Open. Closed again. Glancing around in fear with a lack of clarity and composure. Open again. It's cold inside. It's dry. He can feel them. He couldn't help it. He's sorry.
The last thing Alec remembered from that day is leaving his mother with her jaw at an inhumane angle, and the teeth digging and cutting into his hands, the new blood mixing with mothers dried saliva and oozing onto the floor, leaving a trail across the floor of the. The what? He didn't even care where his mothers funeral took place, not even where she had been placed into the earth, left to rot and be wasted amongst the other corpses that dotted the surface of the earth, or Alec's perception of it.
The teeth. They were the ones that filled every surface of his clothes, and left indentations on his now ruined hands. It gave him a sense of morality and hopelessness every time he saw the sight, for he knew that his past actions had left a scar upon him and his future, his vision of peace and relaxation now disfigured and clouded by the very thing he loved. Teeth. After sparking his fear and paranoia, Alec systematically counted every single tooth he had, and placed them, even pushed them into the very places they had once scarred. Like pieces in a puzzle, or that's what he thought. Begrudgingly, Alec paved his way through the swamp of overgrowth to reach the shell of a happy and welcoming home. The door, under which sat a burned and ruined doormat with the words `Welcome Home’ plastered across it, now barely legible, had a dilapidated frame that bent and pushed the older panels behind and to the side of it. Alec once promised his mother that he would fix it, but that was before her death and his succumbing to his true desires. No matter. Alec pushed past it anyway, shutting the bare panel of the door with an urgency, denying the faintest sliver of light into the murky labyrinth of objects before him. However, Alec ignored all this, just as he always had done. Instead, he began a long descent down a flight of stairs that seemed hidden deliberately, and the only lighting cast a sickly yellow wash over the already polluted steps that seemed to repeat similarly to the neighbourhood above. Alec was used to this, though, for he had taken this trip many times before, after finding it just before his mothers death, back when he was still studying to become a dentist, for the lowest qualification so he could finally do something and not expect to gain income or stability through luck. Back when he still hoped. Maybe.
Alec had been walking for miles now. The stairway around him morphed into hollow archways that directed into a vast panorama of nothingness, yet still the stairs continued to descend down into the void of the earth, the husk of a shell.
“Finally” Alec thought. That trip had taken a lot longer than anticipated, even for Alec. His hands, now freshly corroded and eaten by his mothers teeth, had been lying uselessly at his sides since the mustard lights had faded from functionality, the arms that were once his were at a downward angle gushing out drips of crimson that had been soaked up by the now brown and grimy cardigan he wore. This abominable sight no longer struck him in odd ways, the lack of emotion a mirror that reflected the void he felt inside without his one true love. Since he had taken longer on the descent, he felt at a loss for what to do, only to slip through the hole in the wall that had appeared to Alec’s vision in the darkness that had descended over Alec as he had trekked deeper into the “basement”. The hole was overrun by mould and rust, and the now infected brick crumbled away at the slightest touch. It gave out an indistinguishable scent, something so piercing and detrimental to the senses that you were left walking blindly in the already visionless tunnel. It was a thin wall, however, and the grimy coat of algae that covered every surface had disappeared from existence the further that Alec walked. To Alec, the tunnel’s walls always felt slightly tighter and more confining the larger distance you travelled, as if the walls themselves were hunting the trespasser within, unhappy to have visitors.
The dirty floor had long since transformed into a smooth tiled surface, and the deeper Alec had walked the brighter the light in front of him had become. He barely fit within the tunnel now, the walls squeezing his own body into impossible shapes and proportions. His hunger had grown, and with each crawl forward it increased further, with it slowly absorbing his entire body until it had taken it for control. He remembered scratching at the walls so as not to lose his sense of direction, the blood from the cuts staining underneath his fingernails and splattering on the surfaces around him.
He had finally made it. Alec had done it. He was in the room. The right place. At last. Maybe? Through his starvation and pain, he managed to make out a room that looked not dissimilar to the layout of a supermarket, with different isles and shelves dotting the clean, perfect floor that appeared so close yet so far away, like the bottom of a fountain overflowing with old coins whose dulled surfaces appeared luminous yet dark within the shadows of the fountains basin. Although he was the one to dedicate all the will money to this area, it still surprised him with its beauty and luxury. However, Alec’s conception of this environment was entirely different. In reality, the “supermarket” appeared despondent, restricted to a lack of cleanliness and sanitation, every surface covered in sheets of dust, like how ash settles on everything after a fire. To Alec, the room seemed like a haven, or even his version of heaven on earth, but in reality it was crumbling and decomposing through the thick air that was barely penetrated by the small LED light that hung from the ceiling, on a rusty, half eaten chain. The isles below sat in perpetuity, frozen within the muggy air infested with moths and swirls of grime. On these isles, there lay his lover. Teeth. Just teeth. Only teeth. They had been stored in jars, row after row of piles of teeth, just there, and they watched as Alec moved towards them in a possessed, enthralled manner. They watched as he took no time and dropped his mothers teeth into a coexisting pile on the floor, the molars and canines of other people mixing into one another. The teeth watched as Alec cried in euphoria, as he chose a new set of teeth to use tomorrow. He chose his fathers.
Alec barely knew his father, but in the times he had seen him on the miniscule television screen he had sat at for hours as a child, he knew that his father loved himself more than others, but more importantly that he also had an obsession with teeth. He too was a dentist, he too would always stare into people's mouths as they talked, drawn in by the bumps and ridges across the surfaces of the stones that lay within peoples mouths. His father judged people by their teeth, whether or not they cared and looked after them or if they just did nothing. That's probably why Alec hated his own teeth. He blamed himself for his father and his mothers divorce, for the downfall of a once happy family. Because of his teeth. That's probably why Alec ripped all his teeth out. Because his father made him hate his teeth.
Alec, his mind swimming in the trauma and suffering he faced as a child, stumbled across the supermarket holding the new jar and dropped to his knees, whilst the blood from his hands made the contents of the jar and the near surroundings burst with a new colour of a deep, red crimson. Breathless, he cried there for a while, rejoicing in the memories of his past with a newfound sense of fear and disgust at his similarities to his father. The void within him and the hunger had subdued slightly, allowing the humanity within him to sympathise for his far past. The floor around him no longer looked clean to Alec’s own imagination; he could finally make sense of the blood and muck that had oxidised and hardened around him, or the putrid environment he resided in. He hated it. He wanted this all to stop. He said he was sorry. Didn’t he?
Alec just laid there for hours as he clutched the jar of teeth in one hand, and with the other he scratched endlessly at the dried blood and cuts on his hands, hoping, praying that it would leave his skin. It must have been hours before he moved again. The already dimmed light seemed to have dimmed further, to almost replicate the darkness somewhere above him. Slowly, barely, Alec shifted his entire body across the room, to the centre of the supermarket floor, where there lay a mirror. Its surface was a spider's web; the cracks and scratches a network of tunnels across the reflection of Alec as he stared deep into his own mouth. The mouth that lacked teeth. The mouth that was swollen, so swollen. The mouth that was filled with greens and blues and purples and reds; deep, infinite reds that seeped out and flooded the mirror below, Alec’s reflection drowning in its own blood.
Alec saw this as true beauty. His hunger, his longing and obsession had overwhelmed him again. It made him feel happy, and it made him smile. A deep, endless, sadistic smile that showed his rotten and infected gums, a smile that reflected his knowledge in a blood-curdling, horrific way. A smile on the face of a person that knew absolutely nothing, yet knew absolutely everything about you. A smile on the face of a faceless person, of a person that has isolated themselves from society for so long, in an illusion of a neighbourhood and the fake existence of neighbours, and a basement, or even the existence of a supermarket in the first place. The only real things were the teeth, the teeth that now had spilled from the jar onto the mirror, islands amidst the red sea. Alec picked one up.
“If they were my fathers teeth, and if he was always so sure of himself, then they must be nice teeth”, he thought. Convinced, he slowly placed it into his mouth, the sharp edges cutting his gums further, but trapping themselves in it. He repeated this. Again and again, tooth after tooth until every single one had a place inside his mouth. He didn't care whether they were not his, or if the blood from his gums covered up their pearly white quality, as long as he knew they were nice teeth and he could finally smile without getting looks of disgust and fear from others. If only he had become a dentist, where he could always wear surgical masks or look at other peoples teeth for free, he might have not ripped out his own teeth. Or his mothers teeth, for that matter. Or his fathers. Or his brothers. Or his wifes. Or his sons.
Satisfied, Alec left the supermarket with his new teeth in his gums, ready and happy to repeat it all tomorrow. He walked back through the tunnel, now as wide as they ever really were, in the direction of a light that was never really there.

2023.05.29 19:02 InquestComic Some Things Never Change (Original Short Story by Liam Brice)

Trigger warning - This story is really dark and really messed up. It has themes of suicide in it and a suicide attempt. It is not for the light hearted and it's a very pessimistic story. If you're struggling with your mental health then I would not recommend you read this because it's really dark. And I just wanna say I'm not trolling or joking like this is a fucked up piece of writing if I've ever read one.

When I was a teenager, I wanted to commit suicide by hanging myself from a tree in a nearby wooded area. This story is based partially off that and also other vague parts of my life. This is probably the most personal and downright dark thing I have ever written. Viewer discretion is advised.

Some Things Never Change

The bright sun shone in through the curtains, casting its light upon his face. His eyelids fluttered open as he awoke from his slumber, light greeting him as its warmth engulfed the room. A shiver managed to make its way down his spine as that heavy, despair-inducing feeling re-entered his heart. It numbed his body as it made its way through him, resigning him to the pain.
Tears pricked the corners of his eyes as he had woken with those same feelings of yesterday, that same pain that had been plaguing him for so long now. It was ironic, he had told himself so many times that this feeling would leave him, that one day he would be happy, and all his problems would go away. But as each day passed, days that eventually added up to years, that feeling persisted.
It hadn’t always been this way. When he was a child, he was able to be ignorant towards all the pain in his life. It was okay if his mom was working 24/7 just to provide for him and his brother, too tired to spend time with them. It was okay if his dad was a bad person and wasn’t in his life anymore. It was okay if he didn’t have any friends. Because when you’re a child, it’s easy to be ignorant of a world you don’t understand.
But as he got older and started realizing more about life, the wonder of childhood started to wear off and he realized how dark the world could be. When he started school, he got bullied and shut himself off from everyone. He tried so hard to tell his mom about the bullying, to tell teachers and the school counsellor, but no one took him seriously.
No one seemed to care and if anything, they made him feel like he was to blame. Obviously, there was something wrong with him because surely no one would bully someone for no reason? He started to hate school, purposefully going in late and skipping lessons to avoid the bullying. But that just made everything worse, everyone just assumed he was just too lazy and unmotivated to go to school.
No one once thought that the bullying could be the reason why he skipped school so much, or that it could be impacting him so negatively. He fell into a deep depression and acted out because of it, pushing his family away and severing ties with the only people who were kind to him. He started failing in school, spending most of his time crying in his room writing poetry about how he hates life instead of studying and doing homework.
Everyone told him how education is so important, how being smart is important, but what about being happy? What about your mental health? Society dictates what’s supposed to matter but how does education matter if teenagers are being driven to suicide? How is education more important than the health of our youth? Everything he did was a cry for help, acting out, skipping school, getting bad grades, yet no one saw the signs, no one realized that he was struggling and needed help.
He was like a living corpse, a puppet on strings pulled along by what everyone else dictated for him. Go to school, study subjects you aren’t passionate about, study 24/7, get good grades, get into a good college, get a job that you hate and work 9 to 5 with a wage that you can barely live off. He just felt like nobody cared about him, he wasn’t his own person but just another cog in the machine.
He truly felt rejected by society, nobody saw him for who he was, nobody gave a damn about his dreams or passions. He would tell everyone about what he wanted to do with his life, that one day he wanted to make a webcomic or become an animator, but nobody cared. His mom never asked him how his drawings were going or kept tabs on his story, it was always ‘’How is school going,’’ always talking about things he wasn’t passionate about.
He was tired, plagued by a mental exhaustion that had been clouding his mind for months. He didn’t want to be here. He didn’t want to live through this same existence, this hell on earth that made his mind want to shut off. He was living in a world that didn’t care about him, no one cared if he was suicidal, no one cared if he was struggling. And the last straw was when he told his mom the truth.
He told her he would rather die than go to school and her response? ‘’You would’ve done it by now’’. That was all he needed to hear to know that she truly didn’t understand his issues and truly didn’t understand he was hurting. He was just so alone and misunderstood. He just wanted someone to understand him, to realize he was hurting and to see the pain he had kept bottled up all these years.
But that would never happen. It was sad; he truly didn’t want to die but death was better than living the life he had. If only things had been just a bit different, if only his dad was in his life, if only his mom didn’t have to work herself half to death and had time to spend with him, if only he had someone in his life who cared about him enough to talk him out of this. But he would never have any of this...
He just couldn’t cope anymore. Couldn't keep having to face that same disappointment, couldn’t keep living a life where he lacked so much passion and joy. He had given life chance after chance; he had clung so tightly onto the last shreds of hope he had that maybe one day his life would get better. But after being let down so many times, he just couldn’t take it anymore. He had nothing left to cling onto, no hope, no passion; he had sunk so low that he wasn’t able to bring himself out of it this time.
He was just so tired. He had been fighting for so long that he had no strength left to fight it, he had no will, or desire at this point, to keep living. And so, he was done. He was going to kill himself. He smiled sadly to himself as he opened the parcel that was addressed to him, taking out the rope and getting to work as he started tying it into a noose, having memorized it from all the videos he had watched.
Once he was done and happy with it, he grabbed his bag, stuffing the noose into it and covering it with his jumper. He then grabbed a notebook off his dresser, getting to work writing a note to his family explaining why he was doing this. He wrote about almost everything that had led up to this moment, his father leaving, his absent mom, his horrible brother, getting bullied, how he felt like nobody cared. It was ironic in a way, if his mom or teachers or anyone who knew him were to see him and read what he wrote, they would’ve realized he was serious and talked him out of it. They would’ve told him that he’s loved and had so many reasons to live.
They would’ve told him how smart and brave he was, how he could talk to them, how they would listen. But it was too late. Nobody had taken him seriously. Nobody saw the tiredness in his face, the emptiness in his eyes or his depressed demeanour. He was constantly late to classes and skipping school, yet nobody sat him down and asked him ‘’Are you okay?’’. Nobody told him ‘’You can talk to me; if something is bothering you, I can help’’.
Everyone always just had a go at him, telling him how he won’t ever have a future if he doesn’t try and how he won’t be allowed to oversleep with a real job. Maybe if someone had cared more then things would be different. If someone had asked the right question, took him seriously, picked up on the signs, then maybe he wouldn’t be preparing to take his own life.
But it was too late. Even with the help, who’s to say anything would’ve changed? He’s just a failure by trade, he could do nothing right and everything he did just brought more disappointment. His own mother couldn’t even be disappointed with him anymore because he had set the standard, he could only sink so low.
He sighed, ripping the piece of paper out of the notebook and folding it in half, putting it on his bed. He went into the bathroom, brushed his teeth and got dressed into his best clothes. As he walked out the front door to leave, his brother laughed at him, asking if he was going to church or something. He just rolled his eyes and sighed, that was typical of him. However, as he was about to leave, his mom called out to him, ‘’Happy birthday, Joey!’’. He snapped his head back to face her, his eyes wide and mouth pulled down in a frown. He slammed the door on her, fighting the tears that pricked his eyes as he ran off to the place where he planned to take his own life. The woods.

The bright sun cascaded over him like a blanket made of silk, its hot rays bathing him with its warmth. It was like the sun was hugging him, giving him that contact he so desperately craved. The sky was an elegant powder blue, the bright white clouds floating delicately as they danced across it. The beautiful, sweet birds sang their melodic tunes as they frolicked in the air, their tranquil movements entrancing anyone who looked upon them.
The wind glided past him, rustling his hair with its warm touch. The grass was vibrant and flourished, the trees tall and enveloped in healthy leaves. He was truly enamoured by the view, grateful that this would be the last thing he ever saw. As he pulled the rope out of his bag, he stood underneath a tree as he studied it. He looked up at it, its gigantic structure threatening to consume him whole. He felt so small and helpless next to it, but then again when had he ever felt any different.
He stopped lamenting for a second as he remembered what he was here for, and he went to grab a large rock from nearby. He placed it underneath a particularly sturdy looking branch and looped the noose over it, making sure they were aligned. Guilt started ebbing away at him as he was doing this. He knew he was unhappy and believed that people should have the right to suicide if they don’t want to live, but that didn’t stop him from feeling sorry for his family.
He grabbed a black sharpie out of his bag, scribbling something onto the back of his hand as he took a moment to stare at it, a frown on his face. He shook his head as he pulled himself out of his stupor, putting the pen back into his bag as he gently lent it against the tree. He took a deep breath in, taking a step forward as he stood up onto the rock.
His entire body started to shake, his brain fighting against his natural instinct for survival. He shut out all his thoughts, trying to empty his brain as he reached out and grabbed the noose. With shaky hands, he pulled the rope around his neck, looking down at the rock below him. However, before he jumped, he took a moment to look around one final time, smiling as his shaking slowly stilled, the natural beauty filling him with peace.
He took a deep breath in, smiling as he took one foot off the rock, about to jump off. However, before he was able to, he was interrupted as a droplet of rain landed on his head, pulling him out of his stupor. He looked up at the sky, confused as little rain droplets started to fall from it; clouds gathering above him as they blocked out the sun, his once beautiful view turning dark and gloomy.
His eyes widened as they filled with tears, his clothes starting to get soaked as a cold chill went down his spine. Why was this happening now? He was just about to kill himself, he had just made peace with his death and now this happens? He doesn’t even get to be happy in his final moments; he has to die soaking wet and miserable? It was so typical and he was sick of it. He looked up at the sky, and with a heart full of malice, he started screaming at it.
‘’You’ve already won! I’m doing it, I’m taking my own life! You don’t need to rub it in!’’ His voice broke as tears fell down his cheeks. He broke down crying, it was so typical that even in his lowest moment, something bad would happen to make it even worse.
He was just so sick of everything going wrong, he didn’t understand what he had done to deserve it. All he did was exist and he was already damned, being born to a criminal father. He got bullied for no reason and had no friends just because no one wanted to be associated with a loser. He struggled to be honest with his feelings and every time he opened up he just got ignored. It just wasn’t fair.
He started wiping his tears away, his vision blurry as he saw something colorful in the distance. As his eyesight started to settle he realized that the rain had stopped and there was something in it’s place. A rainbow. A shiver went down his spine as he finally realized something. You can't have a high without a low. Just like a rainbow can’t exist without the rain, happiness can't exist without sadness.
Yeah, he got bullied but if he wasn’t alone and friendless then he would’ve never realized his love for writing and art. Yeah, his mom worked all the time and he never got to see her, but she worked to put food on the table and to take care of him and his brother. He had been focusing on all of the negatives this entire time and didn’t realize all of the positives that came out of them.
He wanted so badly to just go home, curl up in his bed with all his blankets and go to sleep for an entire week. He wanted to go see his mom, to hug her and cry in her arms and finally open up, making her understand that he truly is struggling and isn’t just being a moody teenager. He wanted to talk to his brother, to apologize for being a bad younger brother and make amends.
He wanted to stand up to his bullies, to tell them they’re messed up and he won’t take their crap anymore. He had his whole life ahead of him and he didn’t want to cut it short over one sad moment. He just needed to stop suffering in silence, to tell his everyone he’s struggling and that he isn’t just overreacting.
He needed to tell his teachers that the bullying was so bad that he wanted to kill himself and force them to do something about it. He needed to finally admit that he had a problem and go to therapy, improve his mental health and start being positive again. Because he didn’t want to die, he just didn’t want to live the life he was living. But if he tried hard enough, he could change his life.
He smiled, a new hope filling him as he realized that his future wasn’t as dim as he once thought it would be. His future was in his own hands, and he was determined to change it. He wasn’t going to be silent anymore, he wasn’t going to let people walk over him anymore and make him miserable. So, with newfound courage, he took the first step towards his new life, stepping off the rock.
However, his feet didn’t hit the ground. It was like time had frozen, he was stuck in mid air and he didn’t know why. A weird feeling took hold of him, that same feeling you get when you’re forgetting something important. But this time it was accompanied with a feeling of dire calamity, a shiver that ran cold down his spine as he wracked his brain trying to figure out what was wrong. And then it hit him. The noose was still around his neck. He was going to die.
His breath caught in his lungs, a desperation claiming him as he started fighting for his life. The noose tightened around his neck as he clawed at it frantically, mangling the skin underneath it as little droplets of red started to stain the rope. He tried to scream, a silent horror as the noose closed off his windpipe, cutting off all noise.
He started convulsing violently, every inch of his body twitching as an intense pain rushed through him. He tried so frantically to loosen the rope, to get it off his neck, but he knew that would never happen. His face paled as his life started to drain out of him, being slowly suffocating to death. Black spots started forming in his vision, tears falling frantically down his cheeks as he realized it was all futile, he was about to die.
His right hand fell limp beside him as his left hand stayed trapped in the noose, the words “I’m sorry” written on the back of it. As he hung there, the twitching coming to a slow, one last thought entered his mind. Some things never change.

Authors note - So I think out of every piece of writing I've ever done, this story in particular is the most meaningful to me because it truly represents a feeling I get all too often. That some things never change. I struggle a lot with my mental health and after years of being gaslit, I feel like I can never talk to anyone about my feelings or get help and it sucks so much. And although I wouldn't really tell anyone this, I do struggle with suicide ideation a lot. A lot of my reasons for not wanting to live are scattered through this piece of writing, through past trauma (bullying + literal daddy issues), feeling like no one cares about my writing or Inquest (because I go on about my webcomic all the time but no one ever asks me how it's going or even pretends to care about it), and just feeling like some things never change. In the context of this writing, that sentence refers to how I feel like no matter what, my feelings will never change and I'll always be sad in some regard. And it sucks but I've felt this a lot lately. No matter how many good things happen to me, a bad thing will always happen to absolutely decimate it. Sometimes it feels like I've just got some sort of curse that's been haunting me my entire life, that there's actually a reason why I've been forced to struggle all these years. I keep hoping that there's some bigger picture, that maybe the reason why I'm struggling is to make Inquest and to make all of these writings. I love writing so to see people enjoy my work and be able to relate to it would be amazing but I don't know if the ends justify the means, I don't know if Inquest is even a good enough reason to keep living anymore. God I went off on a tangent there sorry, fun fact about me I think I might have ADHD as I struggle to concentrate and constantly ramble and go off topic. Anyway the reason why Joey dies at the end is because he CAN'T be happy. He's finally found his light, he's finally decided for himself that he wants to live but he's not allowed to be happy, he's not allowed to want to live, so he dies. It's dramatic irony, the universe playing a sick, cruel joke on him. Letting him find his happiness before taking it all away from him, telling him ''Well you wanted to die didn't you? We're just fulfilling your wishes''. I came up with the idea for this story in February of 2021 and the first ever writing I did for it sucked a lot, the story was really bad and didn't really make sense, so much so that I'm probably never going to release it as I'd be GUTTED if someone read that garbage and found out the plot twist before reading this one. And then I tried to redo it during 2022 using Joey Pechman and I couldn't figure it out again. But then today I was like fuck it, I wanna do STNC again and I was like y'know what, let's not write Joey's story, what if I just write pieces of my story alongside Joey's? Just like with my OC Lani Quartz, who has a lot of similarities to me, I wanted to base Joey's story off mine. Except I don't have 1 brother lol, I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters. And I kinda had friends in highschool but they were just bullies who treated me like crap and would never invite me to hang out after school etc. So Joey is similar to me but not an exact copy. But yeah for this I kinda just took different paragraphs from different drafts of STNC (I think I wrote like 4 versions of the Joey version) and I added in a lot of stuff and created this. I am so damn proud of this story, it took me a long time to write it but that plot twist... I want to be known for my plot twists. Like I'm being serious, out of everything, even disregarding Inquest, that's what I want to be known for cuz I feel like plot twists are my strong suit and I'm SO proud of this one. But speaking of Inquest the plot twist at the end of that story... It's fucking insane, it's gonna blow your damn mind. I think Inquest will be known for it's ending, it definitely won't disappoint! Also this is an interesting note but the main character's name is Joey Pechman. Joey means ''God will increase'' and Pechman means ''man with bad luck'' so in a way Joey's name means (or at least I interpret it as) ''God will increase (man's/Joey's) bad luck'' which is literally terrifying. I wanted to pick a name that would represent Joey as having bad luck and came across the name Pechman. Then I got curious and looked into Joey's name and omg it means god will increase... Like I LOVE when that happens, when you have one idea and you have another idea and you didn't intend it to correlate but it does and and it works so well! That happened with Inquest and a story called Amber Alert I scrapped. And if I had to give Joey an age then I'd make him around 17. Also just wanna say right now that writing itself isn't my strong suit. Yeah I'm really good at coming up with ideas and forming them but actually writing that shit up is a struggle for me. This is why I struggled so much to write STNC, cuz I LOVE the concept of it, the plot twist of someone being pessimistic, thinking their life will never change and never get better, just to end up trying to kill themselves, realizing they actually wanna live then ACCIDENTALLY killing themselves, like that is so fucking dark and I live for that shit, an absolutely pessimistic story that shows just how trapped we are in life. So yeah I'm good at ideas (concepts) but bad at writing (executions) so don't come at me for bad writing lol I know I suck at it. Although I'm very curious on how good I'll be when it comes to writing scripts, that gives me anxiety lol. Also yes he does ''commit suicide'' (quotation marks as technically he didn't) on his birthday. I don't know about anyone else but damn do birthdays make me depressed. It was my birthday a couple days ago (I'm fucking old now) and damn was that fucking miserable. I think that's why I wrote it so it was his birthday, I kinda didn't think through the whole him waking up and deciding to kill himself spontaneously part (as I took the first couple paragraphs from a draft I wrote up where it was supposed to happen over a couple of days as opposed to one day) so I was like fuck I need to give him a reason to kill himself on this particular day... And I was like what if it's his birthday? There's an actual thing where people commit suicide on their birthday (birthday blues), I looked into it to see if my idea was dumb or not but it's an actual thing (I know I felt like offing myself on my birthday). But yeah I guess I've just kinda admitted that I don't really enjoy being alive and sometimes would rather not be... And now you know why Inquest is so dark and why I wanna discuss mental health and suicide ideation in it!!! To attract all the suicidal people so we can all be depressed together ✨✨✨But anyway I kinda wanna admit something interesting and I've kinda got an ICU (Inquest cinematic universe) going on with all of my writings. I kinda wanna make ALL my writing connect somehow, for instance I have an idea for a story about a cult (which I'm too lazy to write but it's pretty decent imo) and an Inquest kid was gonna get kidnapped by the cult or it was gonna be an urban legend in BrooksField. But anyway, how does this story connect to Inquest? Through Joey's brother! I'd say Joey's big bro is around 19 when this story takes place and a couple years after Joey's death, he and his wife give birth to a baby boy and he names his child Joey, and this child is a key player in Inquest! Fun fact, in Adam's concept art he doesn't have a tooth gap but his two front teeth are completely missing and guess who did that!? Joey did! Omg and another mainly embarrassing fact about 'nephew' Joey, his original surname was gonna be Cuntly. Yeah as in that swear word... Cuz what happened was I had one nice friend (but she wasn't in my 'friend group' so I sadly didn't hang out with her much) who would often call people the c word casually and I had never heard that word before so I assumed it was just like the f word or something and I was like Joey is supposed to be a c word, let's call him Joey Cuntly LOL. I think I'm gonna change it to Joey Connelly, which is similar enough to be an homage to Cuntly LOL. Also it's an Irish surname and that'd be fucking cool making Joey Irish. Well I guess he's Irish now lol.

2023.05.29 18:57 Tall_Tea4727 I'm finding it hard to continue a relationship with my mother.

I set my boundaries with family when I was being kicked out at 18 yrs old. Since then I have kept my mother and some aunties in my life and that's about it.
I offer to help my mother with shoveling snow, renovations, etc. My partner and I go to her place every second weekend to play cards for hours. I know her favourite colour, the song she wants to play at her funeral, her favourite bird, and types of ornaments she is obsessed with.
I grew up with parents who were never there for things like kid concerts with the school, when I did jump rope for heart, when I got 100% on math tests for a majority of my entire life at school, when I got into a program that only 2 people in our entire school could get, when I spent an entire semester making a social commentary webcomic to then present it infront of school board executive people, etc.
My father would usually forget that I was at a school performance and he never came to pick me up so other families would offer to drive me home as I'm on the verge of tears because they literally forgot my entire existence.
I remember my mother forcing me to cook meals for my father when I was 10 years old. From 8 years old she would make me make his lunches before my own and so I ended up starving myself because i was getting badly bullied, verbally and physically about weight, my ethnicity, and my height(I had a big growth spurt for a young girl).
I have been suffering through chronic pain for several years now and have a scheduled surgery. The only people who ever cared are my partner and HIS FAMILY. His mother housed me because I had nowhere to go.
Now I have to sit and listen to my mother complain about money when she's rich. I have to listen to her say "why don't you guys move?" When she's the sole reason I had to give up on my education when I had a scholarship because I had no job after a major car accident(where I was abandoned in the middle of nowhere and the only way I got home was cuz of my partner's mother), when she refused to give me my legal documents, making it so I couldn't get EIA and my partner dropped everything to love and support me.
She didnt even know I draw at a professional level until a month ago... But honestly I'm just grasping at straws here, trying to feel like I have some kinda family when I know I don't.. I also kinda wanna stay on her will because that's my ticket out of poverty for me and my partner right now.
I know she's not a good mother at all, but I honestly just want to buy time and wait I guess until something happens. I just don't want to be all alone.

2023.05.29 18:43 AaronPatchett I ruined my own life

To start, i would never want sympathy for anything i am about to write. it was my fault and i have fully accepted it. This post includes my ex-girlfriend, my daughter, Affair partner. The names are real because i am unimaginative.

So to start i was with a girl i met through mutual friends. Things were good for a start. I was working a part time job and was happy with it. one day my ex partner Helen started working for the same company and we started up our friendship and i quickly gained feelings for her again. she is beautiful and we became closer. I never though i would be the sort of person to cheat on someone however one day we took a walk to a small pond i knew about. It was a peaceful and sunny day, not long after hearing about the liquidation of the company that we worked for. we laid down in the grass next to the pond and one thing led to another. we had sex next to the pond and i knew i loved her.

This led to a short affair where i fell more in love and eventually left my girlfriend at the time. What we had was a whirlwind, we were acting very quickly and before long she fell pregnant which i was at first very hesitant about. as the bump grew i fell more in love with her and it, and as the bump grew we went for our first scans and found out it was twin girls. i felt like i had to do the right thing and, with my small wage, bought a small ring to propose with. Through out the pregnancy there was one problem, that being my partner Helen refused to be intimate with me. Before i started my medications for depression and other things sex was everything i could think about when with someone of the opposite sex and i was getting desperate. That is when AP got back in contact and everything fell apart. I soon got into seeing them both, one for love and one for intimacy. Not going to lie i was enjoying seeing them both but the one thing that was in my head was my future daughters and what would they think.
One morning i received the call, "my waters have broken". Excitedly and sheepish i went around to her mothers house where she was staying and waited for an ambulance to arrive. when the grumpy ambulance driver turned up and whisked her off i got in my car and made my way to Lincoln hospital. when there we were taken into an operating theater for a c section. There i was introduced to my 2 beautiful daughters Robin and Juliette. Robin was so small, she would have fitted in my hand with room to spare. Juliette was bigger but not by much, still small enough to fit into my palm.

With them being premature they were both placed in incubation chambers. Robin was the first to open her little eyes and i was offered the chance to hold her which i declined. I was afraid to hurt her or drop her. This was a decision i was to regret the next day. The following morning i received a call from Helen's mother stating that i had to get to Grimsby hospital as Robin had passed away during the night. I couldn't describe the pain of having to travel all that way with no one to talk to about the situation. When i got there i remember the look on Helen's face as i rounded the corner sat there holding our little Robin. Something else died in me that day but i kept it quiet. Juliette was sleeping soundly in her incubation chamber. Some parts of the next month are a blur because i was lost in my own thoughts, however being in the chilled room at the hospice is something that is going to stay with me forever, i will never forget Our little sleeping angel.

The day of the funeral i was angry. Not so much upset, i couldn't cry i was just angry and hurt. biggest regret of the day was not carrying our daughters casket. i didn't want to drop her and ruin everything. I didn't care what people thought of me on the day. Soon after Helen and myself went our separate ways. I could have seen Our daughter Juliette during the week, however as i have recently found out i told her that "if we were not going to be a family i didn't want to see her". That is the last time i saw our daughter as her father. Years passed and i went back with AP, started drinking in secret. everything was better numb. Eventually i was clearing a liter and a bit a day just to feel numb enough to exist.

AP and i are no longer together. My secrets with everything else like bulimia and anorexia kept my mind racing over even more years. Eventually i started seeing our daughter whilst she was in the care of my father under the guise of 'uncle Paul'. She was a giggley little gorgeous kid.

Recently Helen and i reconnected. i started picking her up for and taking her home from work. I found it cathartic and we talked through allot. i thought my feelings for her had disappeared over the years, i was wrong. i still love her and admitted to her that i was crushing on her to which she admitted to the same. she still made my heart jump. we did talk through everything and i finally admitted to cheating on her. I felt awful telling her but she said she always had the inkling because of the way i was treating her at the end of our relationship. Surprisingly i walked away from it without a black eye or an earful which i was expecting.

Helen has, more recently, left her partner for some one else and had the opportunity to tell our daughter that i am her father. Something i have waited years for, she finally knows the truth. Apparently when shown photos of me she reacted by saying "he looks just like me" =D. i love her so much and i have been behind the scenes all her life. Now i am asking to be in her life more but giving her the opportunity to decide when and where.

I still visit Robin once a week, i bring her flowers and spend a little time with her. Our little girls are going to be 12 this year and i have only ever been there for one of them. I have some serious making up to do in Juliette's life.

As far as i an concerned there are 2 important women i love in my life. Juliette is my number one, the other i do not think i could ever tell her to her face ever again.

This is just something i have had to get off my chest as it is something i think about on the regular. i think about our daughters every day. If i did have any advice fr people out there it is always try and remain amicable with your ex partners when it comes to children.

2023.05.29 18:16 bakerstreet42 Battle of the Rich Kids!

Garrett Leadmon, win or lose today, will be grateful for the non-crease violation call on his GW goal...while relaxing in his family's $1.8 million home in Davidson, MD.
Leadmon went to DeMatha (that's a PRIVATE school)... and so did 37 out of 51 players on the Duke roster (72%). The majority of the rest come from public schools in rich communities on Long Island.
Notre Dame? 40 out of 56 on the roster (71%) went to private schools!
I'd love to see the list of family donations to the program vs. playing time!
Moral of the story? Want to go D1? You'd better have some wealthy parents.

Production companies : Warner Bros. Pictures.
At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had other people raising eyebrows when he said that his long-awaited superhero debut in Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant would be the beginning of “a new era” for the DC Extended Universe naturally followed: What did he mean? And what would that kind of reset mean for the remainder of DCEU's roster, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the rest of the Justice League, Suicide Squad, Shazam and so on.As
Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant neared theaters, though, Johnson clarified that statement in a recent sit-down with Yahoo Entertainment (watch above).
“I feel like this is our opportunity now to expand the DC Universe and what we have in Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant , which I think is really cool just as a fan, is we introduce five new superheroes to the world,” Johnson tells us. Aldis Hodge's Hawkman, Noah Centineo's Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone and Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate, who together comprise the Justice Society.) “One anti-hero.” (That would be DJ's Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant .)
“And what an opportunity. The Justice Society pre-dated the Justice League. So opportunity, expand out the universe, in my mind… all these characters interact. That's why you see in Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant , we acknowledge everyone: Batman , Superman , Wonder Woman, Flash, we acknowledge everybody. There's also some Easter eggs in there, too.So that's what I meant by the resetting. Maybe resetting' wasn't a good term.only
one can claim to be the most powerful superhero .And Johnson, when gently pressed, says it's his indestructible, 5,000-year-old Kahndaqi warrior also known as Teth-Adam, that is the most powerful superhero in any universe, DC, Marvel or otherwise
"By the way, it's not hyperbole because we made the movie."And we made him this powerful.
There's nothing so wrong with “Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant ” that it should be avoided, but nothing—besides the appealing presence of Dwayne Johnson—that makes it worth rushing out to see. spectacles that have more or less taken over studio filmmaking, but it accumulates the genre's—and the business's—bad habits into a single two- hour-plus package, and only hints at the format's occasional pleasures. “Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant ” feels like a place-filler for a movie that's remaining to be made, but, in its bare and shrugged-off sufficiency, it does one positive thing that, if nothing else, at least accounts for its success: for all the churning action and elaborately jerry-rigged plot, there's little to distract from the movie's pedestal-like display of Johnson, its real-life superhero.
It's no less numbing to find material meant for children retconned for adults—and, in the process, for most of the naïve delight to be leached out, and for any serious concerns to be shoehorned in and then waved away with dazzle and noise. Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant ” offers a moral realm that draws no lines, a personal one of simplistic stakes, a political one that suggests any interpretation, an audiovisual one that rehashes long-familiar tropes and repackages overused devices for a commercial experiment that might as well wear its import as its title. When I was in Paris in 1983, Jerry Lewis—yes, they really did love him there—had a new movie in theaters. You're Crazy, Jerry."Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant " could be retitled 'You're a Superhero, Dwayne'—it's the marketing team's PowerPoint presentation extended to feature length.
In addition to being Johnson's DC Universe debut, “Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant ” is also notable for marking the return of Henry Cavill's Superman. The cameo is likely to set up future showdowns between the two characters, but Hodge was completely unaware of it until he saw the film.
“They kept that all the way under wraps, and I didn't know until maybe a day or two before the premiere,” he recently said Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant FULLMOVIE ONLINE
Is Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant Available On Hulu?Viewers are saying that they want to view the new TV show Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.
Is The Magician's Elephant Fullmovie Online For Free on Disney Plus?
Unfortunately, Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant is not currently available to stream on Disney Plus and it's not expected that the film will release on Disney Plus until late December at the absolute earliest.
While Disney eventually releases its various studios' films on Disney Plus for subscribers to watch via its streaming platform, most major releases don't arrive on Disney Plus until at least 45-60 days after the film's theatrical release.
Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant has finally ended the box office blues. It will be a close call, but based on the estimates, the year's biggest opener remains Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with its $187 million start. Nonetheless, Wakanda Forever's $180 million opening is a huge one, being the biggest ever for the month of November (beating the $158 million of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), the second biggest of the year, and the 13th biggest of all time (though it could go up or down a few slots once the actuals come out). It led an overall weekend box office of $208 million, which is the fourth biggest of the year and the biggest by a long shot of the past four months, with no other weekend since July 8 -10 even going above $133 million.
This isn't the $202 million opening that we saw from Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant in February 2018, nor should we expect the amazing legs that were able to get that film to an astonishing $700 million. With that said, expect it to perform strong throughout the holiday season, likely repeating the five-weekend number-one streak that the first film had, and it shouldn't have any trouble becoming the second highest grossing film of the year so far, beating the $411 million cume of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The audience response is strong, with the A CinemaScore falling below the first film's A+ but bouncing back from the B+'s earned by Doctor Strange 2 and Magic Mike's Last Dance, which ranked among the worst for the MCU. improvement over the recent franchise installations, with the aforementioned films coming in at 74% and 64% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes, both at the lower end for Marvel films, while Wakanda Forever's 84% is closer to franchise norms, though not meeting the high bar set by the first Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant 's 96%.
The sequel opened to $150 million internationally, which Disney reports is 4% ahead of the first film when comparing like for likes at current exchange rates. Overall, the global cume comes to $330 million. Can it become the year's third film to make it past $1 billion worldwide despite China and Russia, which made up around $124 million of the first film's $682 million international box office, being out of play? It may be tough, but it's not impossible. Legging out past $500 million is plausible on the domestic front (that would be a multiplier of at least 2.7), and another $500 million abroad would be a drop of around $58 million from the original after excluding the two MIA markets. It'd be another story if audiences didn't love the film, but the positive reception suggests that Wakanda Forever will outperform the legs on this year's earlier MCU titles (Multiverse of Madness and Love and Thunder had multipliers of 2.2 and 2.3 respectively).
As for the rest of the box office, there's little to get excited about, with nothing else grossing above $10 million as Hollywood shied away from releasing anything significant not just this weekend but also over the previous two weekends. When Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant opened in 2018, there was no counterprogramming that opened the same weekend, but Peter Rabbit and Fifty Shades Freed were in their second weekends and took second and third with $17.5 million and $17.3 million respectively. That weekend had an overall cume of $287 million compared to $208 million this weekend Take away the $22 million gap between the two Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant films and there's still a $57 million gap between the two weekends. The difference may not feel that large when a mega blockbuster is propping up the grosses, but the contrast is harsher when the mid-level films are the entire box office as we saw in recent months.
Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant , which is the biggest grosser of the rough post-summer, pre-Wakanda Forever season, came in second with just $8.6 million. Despite the blockbuster competition that arrived in its fourth weekend, the numbers didn't totally collapse, dropping 53 % for a cume of $151 million. Worldwide it is at $352 million, which isn't a great cume as the grosses start to wind down considering its $200 million budget. Still, it's the biggest of any film since Magic Mike's Last Dance, though Wakanda Forever will overtake it any day now.
Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant came in third place in its fourth weekend, down 29% with $6.1 million, emerging as one of the season's most durable grossers and one of the year's few bright spots when it comes to films for adults. The domestic cume is $56.5 million Fourth place went to Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, which had a negligible drop of 5% for a $3.2 million sixth weekend and $40.8 million cume., in fact )
, which isn't surprising considering it's the only family film on the market, and it's close to grossing four times its $11.4 million opening. Still, the $72.6 million worldwide cume is soft given the $50 million budget , though a number of international markets have yet to open.
Finishing up the top five is Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant , which had its biggest weekend drop yet, falling 42% for a $2.3 million seventh weekend. Of course, that's no reason to frown for the horror film, which has a domestic cume of $103 million and global cume of $ 210 million from a budget of just $20 million.
The one new specialty title of note comes from a filmmaker we don't typically associate with the specialty box office: Steven Spielberg. The Beard's semi-autobiographical family drama Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant opened in four theaters in New York and Los Angeles to $160k, a $40k average. The film expands to 600 theaters the day before Thanksgiving, and it has the potential to break out in a way that none of the other of the season's awards contenders have. We're also seeing very solid numbers from Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant , which grossed $1.7 million this weekend for a seventh place finish, bringing its cume to $5.8 million.

Women’s Rights in the MENA Region: Progress & Obstacles

https://preview.redd.it/q3l3vcrjpt2b1.jpg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fdcca48838631e309ee844aeac6675fc808136f3

A Background to Women’s Rights in the MENA Region

Gender equality is a fundamental human right and an imperative foundation which lays the groundwork for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. The development of women’s rights in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region has seen much progress and obstacles over the past decade. However, the unequal status of women stands out as a particularly challenging problem.Following“International Women’s Day” last month, this article provides a snapshot of the development of women’s rights in the MENA region as of April 2023. MENA countries include Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen. The MENA region has a reputation for struggling with gender equality. Development of women's rights Therefore, this article focuses on this region. However, it is important to emphasize that the MENA region is not the only place women experience inequality. Gender inequality is also seen in Asia, Africa, Latin America, Europe, and North America. Undoubtedly, women continue to face discrimination and significant barriers to fully realizing their rights worldwide.

Any Progress in the MENA Region?

Governments are developing stronger laws and policies to support women’s rights.Significant laws, policies, and programming developments have focused on gender equality within the MENA region. Moreover, women’s representation in government has increased. Many countries in the region have established “national women’s machinery”. This machinery is used in government offices, departments, commissions, or ministries. All these provide government leadership and support in achieving gender equality.Furthermore, there have been notable improvements in education and health within gender-related indices. There has been an increase in specialized programming to support women’s rights and empowerment in this region.Women struggle to uphold their rights in places like Palestine. It is international human rights laws and conventions which are helping women in advocating for and strengthening their fight. Since the ratification of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) by the State of Palestine in March 2014, civil society organizations and women human rights defenders have publicly advocated for the implementation of the Convention and the passing of a Family Protection Bill, pending since the early 2000s, which would specifically address gender-based discrimination and violence. In turn, this will help to edge women closer towards gender equality in the occupied Palestinian territory.

Women are increasing their role in civil society and advocating their rights

Women are increasing their engagement in civil society. Women’s and youth feminist civil society has started to dominate the political scene in advocating for and securing gains. In Iran, millions of young women took to the street following Mahsa Amini’s death in police custody for improperly wearing her hijab. These women risked their lives to change the system. Many were arrested and beaten and now face the death penalty for speaking out. This demonstrates women’s power in standing up against authoritarian regimes and fighting oppression.Caption: Thousands walk to the cemetery of MashaAmini’s funeral in Iran supporting women’s rights in September 2022.The Iranian government is brutally repressing women’s voices who courageously stand up for their freedom. The UN has called Iran a “gender apartheid” on women.Women’s civil society actively engages internationally with the “Women’s Peace and Security” agenda. Remarkably, women activists have testified before the United Nations Security Council. The UN Women highlighted the gender impact of conflict and occupation on women’s rights.

What Obstacles Hinder the Development of Women’s Rights in the MENA Region?

Women face many inequalities within the MENA society, correlating them as second-class citizens with little to no protection from violence. The COVID-19 pandemic has compounded existing inequalities. Moreover, factors significantly reducing space for constructive civil society engagement with governments include ongoing conflict, the revival of extremist religious groups, and increased political turmoil. These international crises created many setbacks in passing long-term legal change. The 2022 global poverty update from the World Bank reports that the MENA region is the only place worldwide where the extreme poverty rate increased between 2010 and 2020. Poverty has a detrimental impact on women’s rights.Gender-based violence is also one of the main challenges facing women in the region today, with devastating effects on their health and well-being and their economic and civic participation.Women protest for the development of women's rights in the MENA region.Caption: Egyptian women in Cairo protest against violence against women [EPA].Read more: Female Genital Mutilation in Somalia Reflects Deep-Rooted Gender Inequality.A striking example of gender-based violence was in 2022 when the Israeli forces shot dead Al Jazeera’s journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in the occupied West Bank. Abu Akleh, a longtime TV correspondent for Al Jazeera Arabic, was killed on the 11th of May 2022 while covering Israeli army raids in Jenin in the northern occupied West Bank.

Women have no right to nationality in the MENA region

The MENA region has the highest concentration of gender-discriminatory nationality laws. An estimated 50% of the 25 countries in MENA deny women equal rights to pass nationality to their children.Algeria is the only country in the region with nationality laws upholding complete gender equality, including women’s right to confer nationality on their children and noncitizen spouse on an equal basis with men. Thus, gender discrimination in nationality laws is one of the primary causes of statelessness in the MENA region, in addition to causing several other human rights violations.Lebanon, Kuwait, and Qatar deny women the right to confer nationality to their children and spouses in all circumstances. Other States, including Bahrain, Jordan, Libya, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Syria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), deny women the right to confer their nationality to children in most circumstances.

Malnutrition in women and girls increases by 25%

Malnutrition in women and girls increased by 25% in crisis-hit countries in the MENA region between 2020-2022. Over a billion women and adolescent girls are malnourished in the world. This has detrimental health, economic and well-being impacts. Most women and girls affected by this statistic live in the MENA region. Both local and global crises in 2023 could exacerbate the development of women and girls living there. Rising poverty and inequities increase the chances that people will turn to cheap, ultra-processed, unhealthy foods.ddressing malnutrition in women and girls is essential to reduce the gender health gap”Therefore, the world is making slow progress. Issues like soaring food prices, climate change and the lasting impact of the COVID-19 pandemic risk making the nutrition crisis an even more significant problem in 2023. Nutrition is a widely overlooked issue; coordinated access and policy intervention are urgently needed.Read more: Children’s Rights in Yemen Are Teetering on the Edge of A Catastrophe.
The opinions and attitudes of citizens across the MENA region were recorded in the latest Arab Barometer survey from October 2021 to July 2022. This is the largest publically available survey published since the onset of COVID. Its results were shocking across 12 MENA countries, which collectively are home to 80 per cent of the citizen population in the Arab world. 2023.05.29 16:01 robutt992 Need buyer to help with fb and Google ads for real estate related

Hello, My name is Rob Matthews, I run a small business assisting military families with purchasing a home. We try to reach out to these “Active Military” or “veterans” to let them know about our VA home buyers program. We have been working successfully for 6 years but want to grow. We need new ways to reach more people.
We work in all us states, except except for NV, UT, MT, ND, NM, MN, WI, WV, MD, DE, NJ, NY, CT, RI, MA, VT, NH, ME, HI, and AK . The target is the active military or veterans of the US military. Does this sound like something you could help me with? I would need you to run the ads to keep the most amount of people sending me messages. I have a assistant that will speak with them on facebook chat with a script I have designed to get their contact info. Do you have a way to add value?
Thank you

2023.05.29 15:51 nutraxfornerves May 29, Memorial Day in the US. The bad news: it all comes crashing down on June 1. The good news: everyone gets their NESARA money as long as they have good vibrations.

Judy Byington of Dinar Chronicles has summarized it for you. If you don’t know Judy, she posts a daily blog that is a wonderful source for Qunacy stories. She is obsessed with satanic pedophile cannibals (controlled by the Jews and/or the Vatican) and never met a conspiracy theory or Russian propaganda bot she didn’t like.
Her sources for this report include Charlie Ward (“Head of the Global Redemption Committee”), XRP Lion, MarkZ, Bruce of The Big Call, JFK Jr, and pulled out of thin air. Intros in italics and comments in brackets [] are mine. I have not bothered to put Judy’s stuff in quotes and have paraphrased some of it for brevity. Some of her post is old stuff she’s been predicting for years, especially about the EBS.
First, a little numerology, that proves it’s all about Q
JFK Jr plane crashed in 1999.
DJT elected 17 years later.
17 days before Jr,’s birthday.
17 days before JFK’s funeral.
Jr started flying 17 years before the crash.
Plane went down 17 miles off of Martha’s Vineyard.
Plane reported missing 7/17.
17 family members attended his funeral.
Now, on to the news
We are presently at Defcon Level Two Red Alert Impending Global Nuclear Attack.
In addition, this coming Thurs. 1 June and despite rhetoric put out by Biden and Congress – the US will default on it’s debts. There was nothing left in the US Inc. Treasury but fiat monies, and little of that due to US Inc. being trillions in debt and with a legal inability to print more.
For some time the Deep State has been functioning on fiat monies and artificially holding up World Stock Markets. Thereby US Inc. would be unable to make loan repayments – that was bound to send world markets into a tailspin and instigate Stock Market crashes around the Globe. After the crash, the Markets were not expected to return – ever.
All of which added up to an imminent need for activation of the Emergency Broadcast System.
By that same Thurs. 1 June all 209 major countries across the Globe were due to be connected to the new Quantum Financial System (QFS), with their gold/asset-backed currencies activated. Monies in your present bank account have already been mirrored onto a secure personal account in that new monetary system.
Those who hold foreign currencies and bonds destined to go up in value with this new QFS, would do exchanges and redemptions at Redemption Centers (There were over 7,000 Redemption Centers that have been set up in the US alone).
The General Public would soon also receive NESARA/GESARA monies (monies stolen by the Cabal) at those same Redemption Centers…notification to set exchange appointments would come after the EBS.
[Snip of all the stuff about how the EBS will work and how we will all sit home and watch military tribunals—she has a great typo in one paragraph, calling them “military tribulations.” ]
Anyone who has participated in Pedophilia and or the GENOCIDE commissioned by the BIS [?], WEF [World Economic Forum] and carried out and developed for the Pentagon (Darpa) to carry out the nRMA [sic] attack on the world’s population to depopulate will be tried before military tribunals where easily 1000 people can be tried for the same offense in one sitting.
Around the middle of June NESARA/GESARA would make its appearance where the General Public would be paid back monies stolen from them by the Cabal.
Those monies as well as monies in your bank account have already been calculated by a Quantum Computer and sat in a Quantum Account in your name on the new StarLink Satellite System. You would need to present yourself (your body vibrations) to a Redemption Center to claim it.
There were three age groups which would receive the monies: Ages 24-44; Ages 45-60; Ages 61 and over. Seniors age 61 and over would be taken care of first. Each group will have 8-12 days to present themselves at a Redemption Center.
Quantum Account – your money is already in your Quantum account. You have to present yourself to claim it. You do that at a Redemption Center.
Stations at the Redemption Center
1 – They do a Biometric Scan on you to find whether or not you are a good person
2 – Exchange foreign currency. If you don’t have any, you go to next station.
3 – You get your Quantum Access Card with your particular vibration added to it.
4 – You are given a Quantum Laptop Super Computer that links up to the StarLink Satellite System. You also receive a Quantum Phone. You activate your account and see the money in your account. Those age 61 and over receive their money in a big chunk. Others are paid over time.
In the mean time, how you can help with Judy’s obsessions
A World-Wide Call For Fast and Prayer
Pray for a restoration of Freedom for People of the World. Pray for the brave Military Forces making mass arrests of Global and Political Elites who have kept The People enslaved and please do special prayers for the rescue of Ritually Abused Children and Adult Survivors who Satan worshippers have used as fodder for Pedophilia, Child Sacrifice and Cannibalism rites in honor of Satan

2023.05.29 15:45 CaSchu10 PR- Take the commission??

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has strategic advice for me (though I know it can't be legal advice).
I'm the PR on my deceased father's probate estate, as well as one of 2 people (myself and older sibling) who will inherit. It's a regular estate, with basically the value of his paid-off suburban house being the bulk of the value. I'm in Maryland.
My sibling is estranged/addicted, so no help from that quarter--didn't even acknowledge the funeral I put together for our dad, etc. I'm managing the estate while working full-time; it's so much more work than I realized, and has basically consumed my personal life for most of the last 8 months. I've had to take a fair amount of time off work (which I can't really afford to do--I'm single and have no other source of income).
So on one hand, it makes sense to take the commission and compensate myself a bit for some of this work. But whatever I take as commission is taxable, whereas if I just inherit the money, I will not pay tax on it (I've read children do not pay inheritance/estate tax below a certain amount in MD). My salary is modest and I'm about to go back to school, so want to do the smartest financial move. So, my question is, would it be more strategic to take the commission, which comes out of the estate total, but then owe taxes on it; or to just grit my teeth and be broke-r for a little longer, but then inherit my half free and clear--but not get compensated for any of the work, and just accept that my sibling gets fully half even though they didn't lift a finger? (Also, for context, my sibling received many, many $ bailouts, housing, and other help from my dad over the years, while I never asked for or received any help, financial or otherwise... at times my dad talked about keeping track of the money he gave my sibling and subtracting it from his half of the inheritance, but he died before writing any of this down. I never urged him to do this, because it would have felt awkward and grasping and not my place, and because I always assumed that my dad would live a long time and need every penny he had saved for medical care, as he had Parkinson's, but he unexpectedly passed away suddenly much earlier, so there actually is money left.)
This is not about penalizing my sibling. Although it is heartbreaking to hand half of our dad's life savings to someone who will not use it wisely (and may even be harmed by it), I've had to accept that because my dad didn't write anything down to say otherwise, and I've heard too many horror stories of family drama around inheritance. It's just about maximizing what I get out of it, in so far as it is legal and fair, because I genuinely have lost income and a crazy amount of time doing this.
Thanks for any advice!

2023.05.29 14:38 MoheMasoud [Letter]

Hey Dr. Jordan.
First of all, the name Jordan is a beautiful name i think. I'm a 34 years old male from Israel. Call me mohe. I work hard each day of my life, married with 2 astonishing boy and girl. My wife is pretty and kind to me. I work as a police investigation officer here in the capital. I'm writing you for 3 reasons: First of all, to say Thank you for being you, for helping me through tough times in the past and in what i'm enduring now and in present days... You have been the voice of reason, objectiveness, reapect while pushing science and facts forward. I like listening to you on Youtube and i got 2 of your book and read them immediately. I found the 12 rules for life simple but very correct and on point. I connected to almost evert sentence you said, it's like i knew what you about to say (also in audiobook) before you said it.
Secondly, i seek directions! My father whom has been ill for long long time, suffered a lot of pain, because several conditions one of them brain strocks and half paralyzed, DIED a month and half ago!!
I loved him, he was extremely kind to all even people who treated him disrespectfully. He always told me, before you judge, put your self in their shoes! He invested a lot in his home and family. And he died in a sunny normal day unexpectedly, between my arms while i tried to do my best to save him. I saw the last breath (here we call that the soul) leaving him! I took care of him for the best of my abilities in the past 3 years, showered him, changed his dippers and feed him and took him places and more, while my brothers did little for him which angers me. I remember, you said, one of the hardest things to achieve and a sign of strength is to be the strongest & the most reliable person in your father's funeral. I tried to live by those words each hour passed after his death and i think i did well, i'm the youngest of my brothers but they always referred to me in any matters to solve them. But...deep down it's hard for me! I miss him. Home is empty! He suffered alot! I told him only one thing over and over again while he slept on the cold floor without heartbeat with his blue eyes still open and looking at me - Forgive me! Forgive me for not doing more! I didn't expected this experience to have such a scar and impact on me. I'm a strong man overall i endure a lot of things, but this one feels different.
Above and to add furthermore...I don't feel fulfilled at my job and work. I hate what i do. I work far from my town, my bosses seem like they care about anything but me, even tho i give it all at work, i'm still unappreciated. And the things that i do and decisions that i take are not aligned with my values and principles. I attent my work with almost 0 motivation. But on the other hand all my friends and brother and a lot at my village work in such jobs and it's what the small community expect from me. I know that the devil that i don't know are not always bigger that the one that i already know, you said that a lot. But still i'm not sure. So quiting and starting over feels like a bad idea sometimes. I don't know what to do, i feel strangled and energy-empty, which surprise me, because i always been funny and good hearted and nice person. Both matters combined, work and family issues, are heavy on me. I don't know what to do regarding my father's death and my work. Thank god i have a supporting family so far.
And thirdly, when are you gonna come to Israel?! I would like to meet you and listen to your lectures in person. I think i watched almost all your videos on YouTube!!
Thanks again.

2023.05.29 14:26 Naao_101 Looking for Information about Funeral Homes in Sri Lanka

Hello fellow Redditors,

Given that, I was wondering if any of you have personal connections with any funeral homes in Sri Lanka or if you know someone who does. Maybe you have friends or family who work in this sector or perhaps you have personal experiences that you're comfortable sharing.
My goal is to gain a deeper understanding of the practices, traditions, and day-to-day operations of these services in our country. If you can provide any information or you could point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

2023.05.29 14:14 FrenchBunnyBallerina Am I the asshole for “ruining family events”

I, female 23 and married to male 33, however he really has nothing to do with this story. It’s my sister in law Female (35) who we’ll call SIL for this story, because I’m not typing sister in law every time I reference her. I’m tired lol.
I recently had my first child. It was amazing and fantastic, he was a NICU baby so I’m extra cautious. I probably annoyed family by not inviting them over to see the baby (I never arranged a date but Easter happened when he was around four months old, so they all saw him there; however I did not offer for anyone to hold him and no one asked.
SIL has had two children already and was pregnant with her third. I have known Anna since I was 12 and she was getting married to my older brother and knew she came from a very conservative family. She has always breastfed with a cover around our family, however at the Easter table I breast fed my child. I will say he latched right away, I was somewhat restricted view from my place at the table in my grandmothers house anyway. He was quick to latch, due to having so much practice- my point being Minimal time my whole boob was exposed (maybe 30 seconds at most). When I said “oop someone’s hungry, baby do you want some milk” her youngest child (boy 6) asked “how does someone only eat milk” and I answered “it’s kinda like a protein shake”.
I would like to add SIL is expecting another baby and I assumed that she would feed her baby as normal in her home without covering (maybe I assumed wrong).
She didn’t say anything at the time about home openly breastfeeding (which I was a little shocked at) but frankly I’m not feeding my child with a cover over his head in my own home. I will cover out of respect for others in two places (church, and then the one time I went to a family funeral). I invite anyone who disagrees with my policy to eat a meal with a blanket over their head.
She also corrected me when I made her child wash his hands before sitting down to eat (we do family style buffet line) and made him take the dinner roll he touched on a separate plate instead of putting it back on the main serving tray (her kids are ALWAYS SICK).
Anyways queue to this weekend. We have always grilled out on Memorial Day as a family for as long as I can remember. This year my mom had already bought all the steaks and all the food before they announced they had “other plans as a family”, which is the same excuse they used a few years ago after they didn’t come to Christmas due to wedding drama after I got married (I chose very small very private and frankly would’ve eloped in Europe if my parents had let me).
So, am I the asshole for ruining events by breastfeeding my child?

2023.05.29 12:40 TessTickles69 [Request] WPB , FL . Literally any cat food and litter

Hey there to all of you nice people . I’m very upset at my situation to have to post here , but life’s been not going great lately. I saw this community and the generosity and figured if it’s for my cats I’ll give it a try .
I currently have 5 cats , which is crazy I know . I originally only had one , but I bought my first house in 2020 in an unincorporated area where there are hundreds of strays everywhere . I’m sure you can picture a neighborhood like this . So I feed all the strays that I can and I trap them for TNVR to be fixed and released . I’ve taken in dozens of cats in the last few years , hopefully making a dent in the population .
Unfortunately BEFORE I started doing this like a few weeks after I moved in , a young friendly kitten herself gave birth to 3 kittens in my garden . It was the middle of hurricane season in South Florida and I obviously couldn’t leave them . I originally made a shelter but due to bad storms it wasn’t feasible and I took them all in.
The plan was to find homes for the 3 kittens and mom , but that did not work out . Everyone in my family either has multiple pets, or doesn’t want a cat at all . I don’t really have any friends to ask . My coworkers were all crackheads or terrible not nice people. It also doesn’t help that while the cats all love me and I consider them extremely friendly , they are not social with other people and hide until they leave . So I know it would be next to impossible to get them adopted , and I would never just bring them to a shelter or Peggy Adam’s . I get depressed just thinking about separating them or what they would think if one day I just left them somewhere alone in a cage. It makes me sad just writing that .
Anyway sorry for the long backstory , just wanted to explain why I have so many. Not a hoarder or a crazy cat person but I do have a huge heart and I want to help animals as much as I can . My dream is to own a cat sanctuary one day .
The reason I posting am here is that I lost my job a couple of months ago , and things are reaching a bad place . I’ve blown through all of my savings already , It’s very hard to afford food for 5 cats and any outside ones that come by . As well as litter you can imagine . My mom helps as much as she can but I feel bad about asking , she’s done so much for me. I feel bad about asking here but hoping some of you nice people are in a better place than we are and can help .
I made a rudimentary wishlist on Amazon as per the rules , but Im really not picky on brands of food or litter at this point . I just want them to be fed and have clean litter . We will accept anything anyone is generous enough to give . I put a couple of things on there because I don’t want to ask for too much but I don’t shop on Amazon so I’m not sure what’s good priced or not .
https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2TOV6NHJM5WRV?ref_=wl_share
It doesn’t have to be those . I don’t know if it has to be on the list for you to send it or if you can add anything so I just added a bunch of things . Sorry if I did anything wrong .
Anything helps , thank you to everyone who read this much . We appreciate anything . I will post cat tax somehow if I can :) it’s hard to get all of them in a single pic but I have almost 20k pics in my camera roll and I’d say more than half are my cats haha .
Any other recommendations or advice about places to go are super appreciated as well .
Happy Memorial Day and thank you again . I’m humbled if you even read this much. I know this is long I’ve been up all night . Can’t sleep , might as well type a big post
