2023.06.08 09:13 TheHeirofDupin Just Gonna Have to Live with Maetel and Tetsuro's relationship, huh?
So ...
I just finished Season 2 of "Galaxy Express 999" and it started out really strong, almost floundered in the middle, and then, actually, finished really strong.
But, uh ... I guess we're just gonna have to acknowledge the Elephant in the room and accept him as part of the décor, huh?
What I'm referring to, of course, is the uncomfortable subject that Tetsuro and Maetel are in love and are just destined soulmates that met too late/too early in time.
The reason is that in Season 1 they did a fairly good job of showing that, while, yes, they shared rooms. There was always double beds, there was privacy, there was interactions between them that was much more matronly and childlike. Maetel does get undressed a lot in front of him, but they play it off as Tetsuro being a kid and being too young or innocent to really flinch.
But, fairly early in Season 2, they began referring to Maetel as "Tetsuro's woman" and him not really denying it. Also, Maetel goes through this entire arc for five or six episodes where at every turn, she is trying to get Tetsuro to settle down with her somewhere so they can live together forever - her words. However, around the back half of the mid-season 2 they actually do an interesting thing and start showing that Tetsuro and Maetel are actually starting to get on one another's nerves a bit. I actually really liked that they were starting to clash, butt heads, and argue. However around the time of "The Pirate of the Time Castle" 3 part event, when Harlock officially dubs Tetsuro a man ... it, uh, it starts getting weird.
The one thing I started to notice as I was closing up Season 2 was that, uh, well, Tetsuro and Maetel's relationship changed after the encounter with evil robot Harlock and the man himself giving Tetsuro his personal stamp of manhood. One thing, obviously, is that Tetsuro is starting to realize that he's in love with Maetel ... which I guess is, look, every boy going on puberty is gonna feel that way, I guess, especally with Maetel (my dream girl). But there is also small things.
One of the big things I noticed is that after the "Time Castle" incident ... they're sleeping together. Not in the having sex way - thank the lord - but now, when they're staying at Westernized hotels, there's only a single bed now. Or if they're staying at a Japanese inn, they're sleeping closer together as a married couple would side by side, rather than before in season one where each futon is spaced a good deal away.
But, I think the thing that seals it for me, that we're supposed to accept that Maetel and Tetsuro are just in love, is in the Galaxy Railways OVA.
In the final episode of the four part OVA which crosses over with Galaxy Express 999, and takes place post "Galaxy Express 999: Eternal Fantasy" and is supposed to reboot 'Adeu' and 'Eternal Fantasy" into one timeline, you get a quiet scene between Tetsuro and Maetel that is extremely heavy handed in subtext. In it they basically acknowledge their love for one another and stop short of admitting their feelings with Maetel saying basically - paraphrasing.
"I cannot live if anything happens to you. Tetsuro you know how I feel about ..."
Then she cuts off and they both look down at their feet. before Tetsuro says quietly that she knows he feel the same way, or something to that effect.
I guess, at this point, I'm just gonna have to accept that Maetel and Tetsuro are destined soul mates of some sort.
Which, if that's the case - you know, weird - but can we stop doing young!Tetsuro stories now and age this guy up so at least it's less strange and creepy?
I mean, it's never not gonna be weird that Maetel fell in love with a 10/12 year old boy. But if he's at least Harlock's age at the "Arcadia of my Youth" with adult character design akin to Captain Zero or Manabu Yuki, listen, their relationship is gonna be a lot less strange ... at least from a visual prospective. A tall and dashing space gunslinger accompanied by his beautiful and mysterious space princess wife on intergalactic adventures is a lot more appealing than pre-teen in a forbidden romance with adult older woman who can't keep her clothes on around the underaged boy.
Listen, I love both characters, and I get that there are some things that are culturally acceptable in old Nihon that don't carry over to my side of the world in the United States.
But, if we're gonna tell more Maetel and Tetsuro adventures - which I really hope they do - can I make this my long distance request that we just make Tetsuro an adult now if we're all gonna accept Matsumoto's premise that they're universal soul mates in a romance fixed in Time?

2023.06.08 09:05 wifeofundyne My first blueprint for a power-efficient 3060 build, but with second hand parts instead of brand new. Appreciate thoughts on which to NOT cheap out on.
I plan to use this build for 2 years max before moving from one country to another. The goal is to use AI/software, blender and translation tools at a faster speed than my old laptop, without too much power usage (must be less than 500 watt) Gaming is a huge plus but the investment is focused on professional use.
Peripherals will be bought used. Ideal monitor will be 1080p 60hz (or 75), either 24" or 27" to upgrade from my 17inch notebook.

Tactical Gear We're turning Tactical Gear into essential items by bestowing them a new purpose, enhancing their significance beyond consumable options. Experience the game in a multitude of ways with this update, whether playing individually or as part of a team. From beginners to veterans, the renewed Tactical Gear can foster a sense of achievement among all players by enabling them to contribute to the success of their squad. https://preview.redd.it/00w2ktq5jq4b1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=a9d24dd62f012068136ed79c4a55690892f9bc33 ※ This update applies to only Normal Matches, Intense Battle Royale mode, and Custom Matches (Normal Match, Intense Battle Royale). - Players will be equipped with a Tactical Gear Carrierin their Inventory at the start of each match.
- To ensure the Carrier does not hinder initial game progress after landing, we've set the Tactical Gear Carrier weight to 0.
- Open the Carrier to select your desired Tactical Gear from all available options - EMT Gear, Tactical Pack, Spotter Scope, Drone, Blue Chip Detector, or the Repair Kit.
- The Carrier cannot be opened when you're in a vehicle or on top of static transport features such as trains and ships.
- The selected Tactical Gear will be fitted into a dedicated sixth slot reserved for Tactical Gear.
- Once equipped, the Tactical Gear cannot be removed.
- Tactical Gear nor the Carrier will not be dropped when a player dies.
- Upon a player's death the Tactical GeaTactical Gear Carrier are removed.
- Players recalled to the match will not be provided a new Tactical Gear Carrier.
- All world-spawned Tactical Gear has been removed.
- Radio Message
- Can be used to relay information about the selected Tactical Gear of team members.
- Upon equipping a Tactical Gear, a Radio Message is triggered for notification.
- "Equipping (Tactical Gear)".
- Training Mode
- Players can remove Tactical Gear from their sixth Inventory slot in Training Mode only to allow for more diverse practice.
- Both Tactical Gear and the Tactical Gear Carrier are provided via the Training Helper.
We also strive to maintain the fundamental system of Tactical Gear while rebalancing their overall stats this update as Tactical Gear have changed to a basic, required item for all: EMT Gear To primarily serve the purpose of team healing rather than self-healing, the healing feature will only apply to team members. Additionally, to balance the overly beneficial healing effects when using heal items, the usage time of heal items has been adjusted to the following: - Med Kit usage time: 3 seconds → 7 seconds.
- First Aid Kit usage time: 3 seconds → 5 seconds.
- In addition, the revival speed of teammates has been changed from 3 seconds → 8 seconds to prevent overly quick recoveries in tense scenarios.
- Using Energy Drinks or Painkillers will now provide a 50% additional effect.
- This boost will only be for personal use and does not apply to teammates.
Tactical Pack - Attachment slots decreased from 4 slots → 2 slots.
- We wish to give the Tactical Pack a similar feel to a Level 4 Backpack. Therefore, the reduction of slots is aimed at moderating the possession of individual items such as firearms (excluding stackable items).
Spotter Scope Improved for more straightforward and less time-consuming use. - Its magnification capabilities are now adjustable from 4x to 8x, allowing for more detailed observations.
- The creation of the white passive marker is removed. The red active marker will be automatically created and maintained for 7 seconds after a scan.
- The standard Screen Pings can also be placed while using the Spotter Scope.
Drone - Maximum range has been reduced from 300m → 200m.
Blue Chip Detector The Blue Chip Detector has been perceived as an overperforming gear. Therefore, it has been decided to receive several adjustments to harmonize it with other Tactical Gear. - Screen update frequency: 5 seconds → 8 seconds.
- Enemy scan radius: 100m → 50m.
- Players who are equipped with a Jammer Pack are undetectable with the Blue Chip Detector.
< Dev Comment > Following the initial introduction of Tactical Gear, we have observed their considerable utility in gameplay. However, we also understand the magnitude of the decision players are faced with in sacrificing a primary weapon slot for Tactical Gear, particularly in battle scenarios where mid-to-long range combat is crucial. As such, with the renewal of the Tactical Gear system, we eagerly anticipate witnessing our players' varied gameplay strategies! For example, for solo play, we look forward to see players utilizing a strategy centered around their chosen Tactical Gear, which you'd select to complement your primary weapon. You may opt for a slow-burn approach with the EMT Gear, spending more time looting and gradually entering the Safe Zone. The Drone and Blue Chip Detector can help with a strategy that involves quick penetration of the center area, swiftly identifying incoming enemies. And the Tactical Pack could suit those favoring weapons with high ammo consumption. As for the Spotter Scope, it may be ideal for players selecting weapons aimed at precise long-distance engagement. As for team play, we anticipate strategic looting that aligns with team dynamics while avoiding overlapping roles. Each teammate would have a distinct role, contributing effectively to the team's primary goal. Utilize the Drone and Spotter Scope for ordering and coordination. Or the Spotter Scope could enhance accuracy for those sharpshooters. The EMT Gear and Tactical Pack may also be helpful to novice players, so they could actively contribute to team survival, or even the Blue Chip Detector for optimal information delivery. With this change, we are also committed to implementing constraints that are proportional to in-game performance - we do not aim to unfairly boost the abilities of already-skilled players. With this in mind, we've made it so that once a Tactical Gear is selected, it becomes irreplaceable. Players are required to use their chosen equipment consistently throughout the match. We have also proceeded with an overall balance update. Items Tactical Gear - Repair Kit The current Helmet/Armor Repair Kits and Mechanic's Toolbox seemed to have limited applications in specific circumstances - therefore, we're merging them into a single versatile Repair Kit that can repair Helmets, Vests, and vehicles. With this multipurpose tool, you can now consider the possibility of pursuing the role of your team's go-to mechanic. https://preview.redd.it/up9tljj6jq4b1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=bff2b90159dd69c13211007879d91b5e4c15e3d0 ※ This update applies to only Normal Matches, Intense Battle Royale mode, and Custom Matches (Normal Match, Intense Battle Royale). - The Repair Kit is no longer a consumable, and is now a part of Tactical Gear that can be equipped to your Tactical Gear slot.
- Once equipped, it cannot be replaced or removed until the match concludes.
- The Repair Kit can be utilized up to 10 times.
- You can use the Repair Kit via the Limited Interact key.
- A single use on a Helmet or Vestwill restore its durability to 100 in 6 seconds.
- You can repair not just your own Helmet/Vest, but those equipped by your teammates or those found lying on the floor.
- A single use on a vehicle restores 500 durability in 8 seconds.
- You are only able to repair a vehicle that can be interacted with.
- The repair process will be canceled under the following circumstances:
- If the character carrying out the repair, or the subject undergoing the repair, moves using the movement keys.
- Once the preceding repair of the same Helmet/Vest/vehicle is complete.
- If another player picks up the Helmet/Vest from the ground during the repair.
- New feature: Removing and installing tires
- When the Repair Kit is equipped, you can use the Limited Interact Key to remove tires from any vehicle.
- Tires that have burst with 0 durability cannot be removed.
- Interacting with a vehicle will display the remaining durability of the tire.
- Removing a tire requires a certain amount of time.
- Successful removal causes the tire to drop to the ground.
- Tires weigh 20 each.
- Tires will go to your Inventory's fourth melee weapon slot.
- You cannot remove or install tires to the BRDM, Boat, Aquarail, Mountain Bike, Motor Glider, Airboat, or Snowmobile.
- Any player can install removed tires on a vehicle, even without a Repair Kit.
- Upon approaching a vehicle without a tire, tire installation requires a certain amount of time.
- The removal/installation process will be canceled under the following circumstances:
- If the vehicle is driven during the installation process.
- If the position of the vehicle changes due to a collision or other during the installation process.
- If another tire on the vehicle during tire removal receives damage.
- The existing Helmet/Armor Repair Kits and Mechanic's Toolbox have been removed

- This applies to Normal, Ranked, and Custom Matches (including Esports mode).
- The spawn rate of the Emergency Pickup in both Normal Match and Ranked on Erangel and Miramar maps has been reduced by 30%.
World - Vikendi After the Vikendi Reborn update last year, we've diligently monitored player trends and incorporated your valuable feedback into the latest update. https://preview.redd.it/mhxfvwo7jq4b1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=3c5b1107ceb034e42d78089d436089afa62db897 Terrain - We have tactically upgraded those locations - excluding major cities - that, according to live data, have proven to be the most unfeasible for engagement or where cover was particularly scarce by adding new objects and ridgelines, offering more opportunities for strategic cover.
https://preview.redd.it/2cvl2b58jq4b1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=98015018aa0cd88f071be1840d45d5a41e707ff0 https://preview.redd.it/0pheucj8jq4b1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=2a6f2c8ee0138e630854545c16abb738d759061e Phase - The initiative Blue Zone ruleset similar as Ranked's for Normal Matches introduced back in Update #23.1 has been applied to Vikendi, effectively reducing the overall playtime.
Item spawn - Vikendi's Normal Matches typically feature an array of special item spawn spots, leading to an excess of high-value items. To prevent disproportionate looting of these items, we've recalibrated the balance. The spawn rates of high-value weapons and items have been scaled down to also mitigate the disparity in the play experience with Ranked matches.
- Lab Camp
- The probability of finding lucky Supply Drops (holding Care Package weapons) have been boosted.
- However, a marginal downgrade has been made in the quality of items.
- A significant reduction has been made in the appearance rate of Care Package weapons and Level 3 equipment.
- Critical Response Kits will now exclusively appear in Lab Camps, with an increased spawn rate.
- Caves
- The quantity and quality of items discoverable in caves' Supply Drops have been downgraded.
- A significant reduction has been made in the appearance rate of Care Package weapons and Level 3 equipment.
- 8x Scopes, Critical Response Kits, and C4 have been removed from caves' Supply Drops.
- Secret Room
- Acquisition of the Self-AED is now restricted to Secret Rooms, except for the rare chance of looting it as a world spawn item.
- The Thermal 4x Scope will now only be available as a world spawn item, in Care Packages, and caves' Supply Drops. It has been removed from Lab Camp and Secret Rooms.
- The following changes have also been made to align with the ruleset of other maps.
- ARs, SMGs, Handguns, Crossbows, Grenades, Smoke Grenades, Stun Grenades, and First Aid Kits will spawn slightly more.
- SRs, LMGs, Backpack (Level 1), Molotovs, BZ Grenades, C4, Emergency Pickups, Bandages, Med Kits, and Adrenaline Syringes will spawn slightly less.
Vehicle spawn - In terms of transportation, we noted that vehicle usage in Vikendi was lower compared to other maps, so we've amplified vehicle spawn spots and appropriately adjusted existing spawn locations.
Blizzard Zone - The duration of the Blizzard Zone has been increased by approximately 70%.
- The number of snowstorms appearing in a Blizzard Zone has increased.
- The distance between snowstorms has decreased.
- The phases when Blizzard Zones occur during a match have been adjusted.
Cable Car - Player feedback concerning the rather sluggish speed of Vikendi's Cable Cars was noted, leading to a significant speed enhancement. This adjustment now allows for better encounters during transit, with an overall speed increase of 80%.
Comeback BR - Map
- We have improved player's vulnerability by relocating existing objects to the back.
- Item spawn spots have been added near player spawn locations for an optimized start.
- Made containers more accessible by repositioning some containers and adding wooden pallets.
- Combat time
- Reduced combat time from 160 seconds to 100 seconds.
- The Play Area restriction time has been adjusted to accommodate the reduced combat time.
- The multidrops will descend earlier.
- To prevent the decreasing survival rate as the number of participants increases during the later phases of Comeback BR, each size of the final Play Area for each phase has been adjusted.
- The UI notifications for Comeback BR have improved.
Crowbar Interaction - Increased spawn rate for cabinets.
- A storage unit specifically designed for Crowbars has been added to garages that are accessible with a Crowbar. This storage unit has a high probability of containing a Crowbar.
- Simultaneously, we've slightly diminished the appearance rate for Secret Room Security Keys.
- However, we've increased the spawn rates for items such as healing items and throwables.
Sound - Reduced the volume of wind turbines by 40%, along with the audible range.
Minimap - Minimap has been updated to mirror the above changes.
Ranked - Season 24 https://preview.redd.it/ewryzck9jq4b1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=2af89c9f32d6d692e04107d3b1e132e30a4f5c9f - The Jammer Pack, Mortar, Panzerfaust, BZ Grenade, and Emergency Pickup have been added to every map.
- Vikendi has been added to the map pool with a 10% matchmaking probability.
- Number of players: 64
- Weather: Sunny
- The Blizzard Zone, Lab Camp, Crowbar interaction feature and cabinets, Cable Cars, bears, and Supply Drops are available.
- Weapons only available in Care Packages have been removed from Lab Camp and Supply Drops.
- Comeback BR, Security Keys, Thermal 4x Scope are not available.
- High-tier items have generally decreased.
- BRDM vehicles can not be called with a Flare Gun from outside the circle.
- The leaderboard will reset after the Live Server maintenance.

2023.06.08 07:58 Spiritual_Bar8381 My professional, official, honest opinion on Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2
This will be my full house opinion on the ups and downs of Fortnite.
Introduction: I’ve always known about Fortnite since season 4 back in 2018. Although I never played it until mid April, 2023. The week Coachella happened. Almost 2 months at the time I’m writing this. I was very surprised by how much has changed since I last saw people play back in 2018. Before I started playing Fortnite, I was very interested and very involved in U.S. politics. I had my head in that department since the beginning of the outbreak. Fortnite has had a positive effect on me. When I started playing, people were pointing out that I seem more happy and positive then I was before I started playing. I find Fortnite to be fun and it takes my mind off things.
Opinion on game: The architecture for the buildings’ exterior in Steamy Springs, Knotty Nets, and Kenjustsu Crossing is beautiful. I love it. I believe there’s always been many options for players to land throughout all the map transformations over the seasons. I liked the battlepass characters for this season. My top 3 being Thunder, HighWire, and Mizuki. Out of all the weapons, I feel that I work best with the Corba DMR. I would say I’m decent at the game. On ranked I stand at Silver 2. (I keep going up and down on sliver 2.) Overall, I’m not able to build quick or act quick like a lot of players. Some rounds are good. Others are not good. I’ve been in tough situations in the game. I’ve put my military tactics to use. It helps. I don’t have good aim. On a 1-10 scale, I would say it’s a 4. Maybe a 5. I have a handful of characters I want. Some I’ll never have due to being in previous battle passes. Like Midas and Drift. My favorite spots to land are the gas stations and the large mansion right outside frenzy fields. One thing I enjoyed a lot about the game was high card and his two henchmen. I thought it was funny to mess with the npc’s. A few things I did not like about this season was the Star Wars event. I feel as if the event made it challenging for me to play. Especially since I started playing right before it took place. Another thing was the ODM gear. The ODM gear was just annoying in my opinion. My favorite character I currently own is Marigold. You’ve should’ve seen me when I obtained her. I was very happy. Wouldn’t stop smiling for days. The game overall is very fun. I’m enjoying it a lot. I guess that’s all. I thought there would be more for me to say but I guess not. Thank you for reading. If anyone has any questions ( including my opinion on things in the game) I’ll be happy to answer them and try to answer them to the best of my knowledge and ability.

※ Please note that the features and updates described below are subject to change or removal due to issues such as bugs, in-game problems, and community feedback. The images used are intended as visual references only; the actual game may look different as the builds are continually developed and refined before release. ※ This update applies to only Normal Matches, Intense Battle Royale mode, and Custom Matches (Normal Match, Intense Battle Royale). - Players will be equipped with a Tactical Gear Carrier in their Inventory at the start of each match.
※ This update applies to only Normal Matches, Intense Battle Royale mode, and Custom Matches (Normal Match, Intense Battle Royale).
Emergency Pickup, BZ Grenade, Jammer Pack, Mortar, and Panzerfaust - Will now world spawn in all 8x8 maps.
Terrain - We have tactically upgraded those locations - excluding major cities - that, according to live data, have proven to be the most unfeasible for engagement or where cover was particularly scarce by adding new objects and ridgelines, offering more opportunities for strategic cover.
https://preview.redd.it/sdivq8e8gq4b1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=3ea91777da3eb8d64cdbf6ee52d18cbd753535b5 Phase - The initiative Blue Zone ruleset similar as Ranked's for Normal Matches introduced back in Update #23.1 has been applied to Vikendi, effectively reducing the overall playtime.
Ranked - Season 24 - The Jammer Pack, Mortar, Panzerfaust, BZ Grenade, and Emergency Pickup have been added to every map.
- Check out your final Tier from the previous season through your Career page.

Custom Match - On/off option for the Tactical Gear Carrier has been added.
- Helmet Repair Kit, Armor Repair Kit, and Mechanic's Toolbox have been removed from the Spawn tab.
- World-spawn Tactical Gear have been removed from the Spawn tab.
- On/off option for the Recall system has been added.

- The number of players in a team has been changed to 10.

2023.06.08 07:25 Del-Sl0th Am I the only one a bit worried about the Ahsoka show?
When I heard about this show I was excited, and while I’m still looking forwards too it and think it’ll do fine, I can’t help being a bit disappointed.
The more I hear and see from this show, the more it seems less like the Ahsoka show and more like season 5 of Rebels in live action. I want a show about the former apprentice of the chosen one, a veteran of the clone wars who experienced what was wrong with the Jedi order and tried to find her own path. The warrior who fought multiple sith and lived, spymaster for the rebellion who discovered her mentor had become a monster. At the time of the Mandalorian she’s arguably the most powerful individual in the galaxy, with Luke probably being stronger with the force but nowhere near as good or experienced a combatant, and Palpatine presumably being a clump of evil cells in a test tube on Exogal.
They’ve had to bend reality twice now to keep her around, being resurrected by the embodiment of the light side of the force and then guided by her in spirit-owl form, and introducing time travel to save her the second time. It just seems like a bit of a letdown if the character who’s gone through all that ends up with her own show and the only purpose is to help Sabine and Ezra hookup and fight an Imperial who’s been a non-threat off in the unknown regions for years.
Obviously there seems to be a bit more to it than that from the trailers, but the Rebels plot continuation seems to be the big focus. Am I the only one feeling this way?

If you plan to trek to Everest Base Camp, the sweet spots are from March to May or mid-September to November. During these times, you can avoid winter's heavy snowfall and the summer's rainy season. Winter is a legit option, too but don't rule it out completely. Just make sure you gear up well because it gets mighty cold. Picture-perfect mountain vistas await you, all crystal clear and breathtaking.

2023.06.08 07:11 makitopro Discussion on redundancy
I’m curious about y’all’s approach to redundancy, in particular PSU redundancy.
In enterprise IT, almost everything has redundant PSUs. The common practice is to have completely separate “trains” sometimes even going all the way back to where the utility power ingress enters the facility. Broadcast environments are rarely in a position to have that level of redundancy, but some components allow the option.
In the huge number of years of experience represented on this sub, how often have you had PSUs fail? I myself had some negative experiences with Analog Way gear in the mid 2000’s which proved the risk for me personally.
The justification for high availability tends to be the cost of downtime. The consequence of a legacy broadcaster experiencing downtime is a loss of ad revenue. For a Fortune 500 experiencing data center downtime it may be lost of revenue during peak selling season. For live events, it’s the fact that you have only one shot to get it right - reputational risk.
Interested in your war stories, and stories of five nines and how you accomplished it.

2023.06.08 07:02 Clyax113_S_Xaces [Online][Cyberpunk 2020][EST] Putting Together A Team (Or Joining One)
Hello. I'm a player looking to join a game.
Times Available: Most days and times EST, Sundays and some Tuesdays mid-afternoon debatable.
Voice/Text: I'm looking for a voice game.
Contact Info: I am open to DM's on Reddit or Discord: Clyax113 S. Xaces#3717
Method of Play (Skype, IRC, roll20, etc): I'm pretty flexible with the platform. I have experience with Roll20, Forge, Discord rolling, and voice-only with .pdf character sheets.
Additional Info: I love role-play! Tabletop rpg's are a big part of my hobbies. I have seasoned knowledge of tabletop rpg's over 8 years -a bit over half of that includes GMing. I prefer playing as I love watching the progression of my characters, but if more of the group want to play, I'm up for sharing GM responsibility or rotating so we can all play. I love player-driven narrative and sandbox style games, but I'm more than willing to play a module or help another group member's story if we alternate styles after. I like a 70% role-play and 30% combat split. While I follow system rules reliably (that's why I'm playing it), ultimately chance and rules are tools to help us have fun with the story and not the other way around; this OSR mentality is what I live by when I play.
As far as Cyberpunk goes, I'm looking to play a Covert Tech or maybe a Fixer. I've played this game a few times before, so I don't know a lot about the story or locations, but I'm reading more knowledge for players all the time. I can read what you need me to or wait to save spoilers for later. I'd love to do an interview with you and your group!

here). I did it, and it was good. And I had caught the running bug. Ready to extend my distances, I declared to my coach that my next goal (after a short hiatus to play one more season of frisbee) was to qualify for Boston. Boston was, in fact, the only marathon I had ever spectated: I remember sitting at Coolidge Corner in 2009, watching runners speed by. I was young and springy then, and had no desire to run farther than 3 miles continuously. But now it was 2021, and time had run out on my fast-twitch abilities: it was time to go long. I wanted to run Boston, which meant I had to run something else - and hopefully just one “something else” - first.
We decided to target Eugene for 2022, to qualify for Boston in 2023. I began building up my base in the fall, testing my weekly mileage limits. I remember a “long run” of 70 minutes the first Sunday after I returned to regular running. I nearly gave up and walked 60 minutes in. But the next Sunday I did 80 minutes, and it was better. By the end of the fall, I was comfortably hitting 50 mpw and 2 hour runs. By the time Eugene came around, I had sixteen weeks of generally healthy training and six 20+ mile runs in my legs. felt ready, and I was: I ran a 2:42. I was a freshly minted 36 at the time, so with the BQ time for my age group and gender at 3:05, I was firmly in the clear.
I'll pause here to say that although I am far from an elite runner, I am also keenly aware that many people work their asses off for years to qualify for Boston, and that some never do. I worked hard, too, and my history of sports can’t have hurt, but at the end of the day I know I have some (unearned) talent for running that made my path to Hopkinton easier than it is for many. I will leave it here in saying that I have immense respect for everyone who laces up and puts in the work, regardless of their pace and outcome.
The Build
After Eugene, I had turned my attention away from the roads for about six months. I put the bank of fitness I had developed to work on trails and on mountains. I got to cover (and bonk on) a few of the many thrilling backcountry objectives in British Columbia, and even ran a 50k in Washington. (It went about as well as most people’s first 50k, which is to say that I ran out of food, water, fully supermanned down a trail, cramped every muscle in my lower body, and shuffled it in. Huge success.) But when December came around, it was time to get back to the roads.
Working with the same coach, my road fitness came back surprisingly quickly. I was hitting high-water marks for volume, pushing my average up to the high 60s/low 70s. I felt, well, not good, but I did feel fast. I remember hammering out a 30 minute tempo on the track at 5:41/mi, a workout I never would have been capable of during the Eugene build. I was tired after, but confident and elated. I got compliments from the youngsters rolling 600 repeats around the track, and their coach. I felt like I was on track for a new PR, and not just a PR but a crushingly fast time, maybe somewhere in the mid 2:30s. But somewhere, offscreen, ominous music played. I had my wings on, and I was headed towards the sun.
The sun took the form of a work trip to Bozeman. I flew over Thursday, found a gym to do a tough 60 minute “mountain fitness” workout that evening, ran for an hour Friday morning in the snow, and skate skied 2.5 hours hard on Saturday. Sunday morning, I took on a treadmill workout that was something like 7x(7 min @ 5:41/mi, 2 min off). After two intervals, I knew I didn’t have it. I stepped off the treadmill. I’ve failed workouts in the past, and I’ve been able to move on, but for some reason this one stuck. It stuck, as they say in the South in my craw. Annoyed, I went back to my hotel room and tried to regroup. With my muscles already starting to tighten up with the effort, I resolved to partially salvage the day with an easy run around town. But it didn’t feel like I had salvaged anything. So, after an 8-hour, two hopper flight home, I made another attempt to soothe my bruised ego. With night falling, I hit the pavement, starting out easy but picking up speed. Tired, tight, and without any food or water, I hammered away, deep in the no-man’s land of Zone 3. I had heard the warnings. I paid no heed. I was invincible, and I was going to reclaim the fitness I had missed out on that morning. I ran the distance of a half marathon and got home after dark, and you know what? It felt good, at the time. It felt
The Injury
The next morning, I woke up in a pile of melted wings. My left leg couldn’t take any weight without shooting pain and was tender to the touch around my mid-shin. I felt the dubious benefit of immediate and regretful clarity on what had gone wrong. My ego had let me believe that I could or should try nail a workout on a foreign treadmill at altitude (Bozeman!) after an exhausting couple of days. Failing that, it had convinced me that I should make up the workout with a long, unfueled run. Ego is a hell of drug.
It took several days for me to accept that I was injured. Looking back on my training log, it seems insane, but I ran the next few days on my program, including a track workout. My leg would throb and ache, but I would get through it, only to wake up in more pain that would abate just enough for me to try it out again that afternoon. Eventually, I fessed up to my coach and she immediately sent me to a PT and had me stop running for a week. I thought this was excessive at the time, but in retrospect I think it might have saved the build. The PT I saw said I had a stress reaction, probably brought on by a combination of weak glutes (it’s always the glutes) changing my push off and some good old-fashioned overdoing it.
For the next month, I cross trained with uphill biking, skate skiing, and water jogging. We re-introduced running gradually, starting with once every three days, then every other day, then two out of three days. The shin seemed to get better slowly, and we gradually reached a kind of homeostasis: I knew how far I could push it, and as long as I didn’t overdo it, it seemed to recover slightly faster every time. But the injury had come at a bad time, and missing most of February meant that I couldn’t race the local half marathon I had planned on or a local trail race (though I still participated in them as long runs).
By mid-March, I was feeling mostly better. In addition to Boston, I had also signed up for Chuckanut 50k, a trail ultra renowned for its smooth runnable trails and its timing: it often drew some of the elites of US trail running as an early season opener. I didn’t feel quite ready to hammer the downhills, but if anything, limiting myself kept my quads intact almost through the end of the race. I didn’t tear the roof off, but I ran most of the way and felt pretty good doing it. When I woke up the next day with the usual soreness, but no acute pain in my shin, I knew I was going to finish the build and run an honest race at Boston.
The only problem was that a week’s recovery brought me to March 24: only about three weeks before Boston. With a weeklong taper, shorter than usual by necessity, we really only had two weeks to get into Boston shape. My coach put on a masterclass in programming: she designed workouts that required exactly as much as I could give at the time, while preparing me for the unique qualities of the Boston experience and course. One in particular stands out: 4x(15 min MP effort, 8 min T effort, 4 min jog), but on a route that included a 300-foot hill, which I ended up going up and down 3 times. The key was to maintain effort going uphill, but to not go any faster than 6:10/mile downhill. That and another long run gave me two 20+ milers in the books. That was it.
Going into Boston, I knew I didn’t have the sharpness I had even three months ago. I had started the cycle hoping to PR, maybe by a lot, but before the marathon I set more conservative goals: my C goal was to get to 20 miles (where my mom would be) feeling strong; my B goal was to get under 2:45. My A goal was to PR. I wasn’t feeling brave: I wanted to minimize the possibility of blowing up, while still giving myself a fighting chance at a one-second PR if I was having a really good day.
The Marathon
There’s not much to say about Boston (the marathon) that readers here haven’t read before. The logistics are impeccable, but overwhelming for a first-timer, the fanfare and the fans are legendary, and the course is the running world’s version of the Strait of Messina: athletes must navigate Scylla’s ego-tempting downhills and Charybdis’ ill-timed uphills to survive. While it is literally impossible to make it to the Boston marathon start line without having at least one hundred people tell you to not hammer the downhill at the start, people still do it every single year.
In a way, I was lucky have reckoned with (and lost to) my ego early in the build. I came to Boston healthy but wary of too much self-belief. We set a target and hard limit on the pace I would set through the first 15k: 6:15s would be ideal, but at most 6:10s: I wouldn’t run faster than I had down my training hill. At the start line, a small inspiration struck. Boston sets bib numbers by qualifying time, and my 2:42 at Eugene gave me something in the 1100s. Within my corral, I found the people around my number and then walked about 30 meters back, placing myself closer to folks wearing 1500s. I reasoned that if most people overcooked the start, then I wanted to be with the folks overcooking it at a pace I could be comfortable with.
Once the race started, it was virtually impossible, for the first couple miles or so, to shift my pace much above or below what the people around me wanted to run. If thought at first that I had let myself sit too far back: I ran a 6:35 first mile down the two-lane streets of Hopkinton. But as the crowds thinned a bit, I found a rhythm, and clicked off my first 5k at around 19:14, around a 6:12/mile pace. The next 5k, still downhill but slightly less, was a 19:12. The third was 19:13. Rolling through the small towns that make up the western side of the Boston metro area, I didn’t feel good, exactly, but I also didn’t feel bad. I wasn’t sure what kind of day I was having. That’s the odd thing about the marathon, so far as I can tell: you might know you’re having a bad day early on, but deciding that you’re having a good day is inviting disaster.
A quick aside: it can’t be overstated how impressive the Boston crowds are. There was no point on the course that I can remember where we were without support for more than 25 meters. Wellesley and Boston University are extreme even in that context, though: you actually feel the roar at those points in the course before you hear or see it. Bless you, you drunk and joyful undergraduates.
By 25k, we were through half and quickly approaching the Newton Hills. After a long downhill, we turned at the fire station and started to charge up. I shortened my stride and began to pump my arms, lifting my effort from a 6 to a 7 but no higher. I didn’t look at my watch until the end of the first hill, so you can imagine my shock when I saw that the last mile had been a 6:06. I cruised the lengthy downhill after the first hill (nobody really tells you about those) and regained my composure. The second hill was punchier, and brought me down to a 6:10, but I still felt good, and was starting to pass quite a few people. The third hill was mostly forgettable, which left only Heartbreak. While not objectively a big hill, it’s big enough for that point in a marathon, and you definitely see it coming. I was determined to hold my early race pace through it, though, and pushed the effort up again. I was breathing hard, but I got to the top still holding a 6:11 pace.
Even at the top of Heartbreak, I wasn’t fully ready to believe that this was going to be a really good day. I’m told that much better runners have lost entire races in the so-called “haunted” mile following Heartbreak, and I wasn’t sure what my quads had left in the tank. But while it still didn’t feel good, I kept pouring in gas and they kept responding. The last few miles of the race are a bit of a blur: I remember pushing the pace down to 6:06, then 6:00, then even below 6:00 for a mile or so. There are a couple very short and punchy climbs just before the last turns that took something out of me, but by the time I turned left on Boylston I knew I had more than the balance left over. I started sprinting at the turn, only to realize that the 600 meter long stretch was a bit more than I had bargained for. Still, I closed respectably: I ran last mile was a 5:41, exactly what I had worked on maintaining in that early tempo workout.
I finished in 2:40:XX and negative split by about 2 minutes. It poured like crazy 15 minutes after, while I huddled under a restaurant awning. I watched other runners come in. Some, like me, had the elation of a good day to soothe their tired muscles and joints. Some had no such balm, and were left to untangle the end of a long, challenging cycle from a disappointing final result. I was reminded, too, that it’s all relative: as I sat under the awning, I heard a runner near me lament his 2:35, while another came in over the moon with his 3:15. Kipchoge had a bad day, and he finished more than half an hour before I did. We are comparison machines, and expectations versus reality is the oldest routine we know.
Epilogue
The marathon is a harsh race, and I feel genuinely lucky to have had good experiences on my attempts so far. Two months on though, my body still feels beat up: I’m struggling to recover, my knees ache, and my workouts seem to be going the wrong direction. I don’t think I gave my recovery the respect it deserved, so I am once again tangling with my own hubris.
Assuming I can rest enough to properly recover, I also find myself in the position of figuring out what’s next. Boston was a big goal for me, and I didn’t set any real running objectives after it. All I have on my schedule this summer is a couple of local trail and road races. I thought Boston would be my last marathon before I moved entirely to the more forgiving pastures of trail running, but I’m also tempted to see how far I can push the needle on my road running before age claws my aerobic fitness back from me. I’m 37 now, and well aware that at some point the PRs will no longer be on the table, but I think that day is still a few years off. If you were me, what would you aim for next?

2023.06.08 06:44 Coreybom Hey y’all, got to see an Advanced Screening of the Flash, here’s some non spoiler thoughts.
So i finally got to see a early screening of The Flash, the big DC reboot thats meant to give the DC film universe a clean slate. Just gonna drop some overall thoughts about it, non-spoiler of course.
So first thing, despite all the marketing might have you to believe, this is NOT a Batman film with the Flash. This is very much Barrys film, and while Bats does play a decent role, he doesn’t really come in until, the Keaton version anyway, until like late mid-way into the film. This is still Barrys show, and he’s the focus.
The CG is a bit of a hit and a miss, and the miss depends on how willing to feel about how stylized and more larger than life the world is. Unlike the MCU, a lot of the world here feels a lot more larger than life, with some areas having an art deco aesthetic, and some being much more comic book like. And this isn’t some extra dimensional world, its the “real” world. So cause of that, while the some of the CG can get wonky, i honestly didn’t mind it, as it felt at place with the world.
The two batmans here are great, with Affleck managing to continue to be the Andrew Garfield of Batmans, as someone who, under better scripts, can easily show themselves as probably the best live action of versions of the character. He manages to bring a pretty somber feel of bruce wayne, sounding genuinely tired, yet not in a way thats feels like he’s here to cash a check. And Keaton, despite what the trailers made it seem, is in full form as both bruce wayne and bats, managing to bring back that manic energy and charm.
Supergirl, played by Sasha Calle, is a nice new edition, feeling like the polar opposite of him, as she very much does not give a fuck about the humans, yet hates zod deeply. And course, we have the violent elephant in the room that is Ezra Miller. And as much as some will not want to hear it, he does a really good job playing both barrys, though the alternate barry can get a little grating at times, even though thats point.
Another major, the pacing for this is fucking BREAKNECK. This films zooms, and honestly while i realized we were at the midway point, i was surprised on how quickly we got there.
Overall, while its not going to set the world on fire and doesn’t even come close to the marks that the recent spider-verse did, its a very fun and charming summer film. It’s similar to no way home in that honestly, being just a fun film on its own.

2023.06.08 06:22 AuraLucarioMan [TOMT][TV][2020s] Scifi/mystery show, likely Netflix
My dad was binge watching a show two or three summers ago and like I often do, I was in the room for it but did not pay close attention and have now forgotten most of the important details. It was likely on Netflix because I don't remember any commercials and the episodes seemed on the longer side. It seemed like an original series to whatever streaming platform it was, and was definitely made in the last few years.
I remember the protagonist was a lanky white dude with dirty blonde hair in his mid thirties. Maybe he had an older brother with dark hair? The cast was pretty diverse though. I remember later in the season a tall black woman joined the main group and she was a stoic mysterious badass with an English accent (?) and a funky outfit. I may have had a crush on her now that I think about it because she's the part I remember best out of everything.
In terms of the way the plot was structured, my brain, for a reason I no longer remember, wants to compare it to one of the overarching plots in a season of Doctor Who. I think the series started with something terrible happening and then the rest of the show led up to/explained why that happened. Going with that, there may have been an element of time travel or warping. There was some threat on a universal scale that the protagonist, who was just a normal dude, got wrapped up in, side by side with entities that took on human forms, with godlike powers that included enhanced reflexes, etc., who nonetheless fought with guns or some or the less civilized ones perhaps with martial weapons. One or two were on the protagonist's side, but they treated him like the conflict was above him. They were somewhat alien, being a good portion of the weird factor of the show, and couldn't understand the importance of his normal person struggles. He faced those problems, like a dying relationship with a sibling, at the same time as the more supernatural stuff, which took a huge toll on his mental health. I think after he got involved, the main driver of the plot was him getting chased on and off by these almost demonic entities, who needed him (or maybe his sister at first) specifically for some odd reason, which was part of the mystery. I think it ended like most of these shows, with more questions than answers, but I don't remember him ever watching a second season.
As with a lot of modern scifi media, the tone was very gritty in the overall plot and subject matter, but the humor was somewhat dry and on the surreal side. Cinematographically and all around it was very artsy and down-to-earth, which gave it a kind of surreal atmosphere when paired with the crazy shit that was going on. Netflix's Series of Unfortunate Events may be a good comparison, though this was obviously much more adult oriented. It was confusing on purpose, with a lot of twists and turns, things that would make absolutely no sense until later on. But still incredibly gruesome and violent about once per episode, becoming more frequent by the end, which ended up quite dark, though I don't remember how so.
I apologize for the vagueness, I really just have a general feeling about this show that makes it hard to Google it and I don't think my dad would even know what I'm talking about. I'm interested to watch it again so any suggestions even of similar shows would be appreciated.

2023.06.08 06:14 MediocreFPS How do I extend my lead to failing lanes?
Context, my
u.gg. I've recently got onto a massive losing spree after hitting Gold 4. After being stuck at 0LP for a while, I've been losing non-stop, and am now at Silver 2 6LP. Consistently, the enemy mid laner or ADC always gets fed, and ends up snowballing the game. Though I've been having a lot of fun and success laning with Kled (deciding to start one-tricking him), and I have a lead at Top, I cannot outmatch their leads. I'm not saying that I'm the only unproblematic player, but looking at my match history, it's obviously a role feeding horribly, and I'm unable to push with my lead. Then as the game progresses, I get steamrolled on by the enemy team.
Though I did most of my climb with Yorick, I don't particularly enjoy him that much, and I feel like my issue will still be present nonetheless. I've been swapping around with champions that I've experienced success with before (eg. Gwen, Kayle, Illaoi, even Jhin), and it just doesn't work at all. For more context, I have climbed to high Gold regularly for all seasons I've played, and I don't spam games (at most 2-3 per session, a day). This is my worst drop/lose streak to date. Doesn't help that I lose twice the LP I gain, losing games with even Iron/unranked opponents getting carried by their team.
Can someone identify what I should do? I generally do ok in the laning phase, but my teammates get massacred/give up important objectives/make bad decisions in general. Even by swapping to Kled and generating ganks and picks with my ult doesn't help.
Again, I'm not saying I'm the perfect player in my team. But definitely the general trend is a role or two feeding other role(s) who knows how to extend their lead above mine, and I want to know how to prevent that. Should I just start playing a more selfish, splitpush style, and just extend my own lead and pressure instead?

2023.06.08 06:13 thecrazycatman Hardstuck Low masters to high masters and possibly GM
I’ve been hardstuck low masters (250 LP peak) for 3 seasons now maintaining a subpar win rate playing mostly Ap TF and Brand. This season I picked up several other mid lane champions but with the recent TF buffs I’ve been playing him more again. I really enjoy TF and am comfortable playing him into any matchup.
I’m not sure what sets high masters and low GM players apart from players at my skill. I understand it’s about consistency, but I do find myself having plateaued and unable to climb further.
What can I do to improve in the game and eventually reach a higher calibre of skill in this game?

2023.06.08 06:05 phoenix_2030 I procastinated my way to 318 - 165 quant , 153 verbal
Shoutout to Greg for making such a good course at such an affordable price .
I already had a good aptitude for quant . I enrolled in gregmat plus in mid January 2023 , i choose the 2 month study plan , then i procastinated to finish even week 1 for the next two months , after April joined up forces with a friend and we half assed our way to week 3 . Then i stopped studying again , jump to 15 May 21 days before exam i knew it was now or never as i had already rescheduled once and i didn't want to do it again .
I started watching everything at 1.5 x or 2 x and completed the till week 4 . I was not practicing anything more then what was taught in class and for quant i did quant problem from the gregmat usually choose the hard and extreme filter . I skipped homework .
For verbal i had done vocab mountain till group 10 only , used tc and se season 4 videos and for awa i started practicing 5 days before exam and used chatgpt to rate my essays (read essays with 6,5,4 scores they helped a lot ) . I andhered to a strict structure for AWA as i didn't want to experiment during exam . For reading comprehension i completed Greg's videos and then i practiced through practice test itself .
I used prepswift in the last month to skim through concepts quickly and it's an excellent resource for vocabulary and quant concepts.
Most important thing practice tests : i gave around 5-6 full time practice tests Powerprep 1 and 2 , Manhattan , greprep , Princeton review , Kaplan whatever full time test i found i did that helped me increase my speed a lot , i gave a couple of gre mini exam on gregmat too . All my practice test i was scoring from 310-315 .
By no means this was the best strategy but it got me a decent score . The exam was fairly straightforward , there were as always a few traps in answers in quant and verbal . I found quant to be quite doable medium to easy questions and verbal was difficult for me but everything was from gregmat's course i was like if only had i completed the vocab mountain .
